their coming the avenue.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
All right, So we're gonna roll right into hot topics
in the essence of time. I'm just gonna roll right
through them. How about the Bears winning this Sunday? I
think we always shocked with that one. Crossing our fingers,
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I think we got the toughest division and we got
the best teams, and we're gonna beat up on each other.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, I just believe that, So you hopeful.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes, I'm always cheering for a Chicago team, regardless.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Of which team it is. And you know what, one
of my favorite teams is the Hawks. Really yeah, man,
they were more skilled. They can skate. Okay, what you thinking?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I watched them in a while.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It's all about.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
All right, and what the bike night.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Oh completely shot.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yes, listen Maywood, Maywood, Maywood doing what they do.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
You know, it was very orderly.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Boy, I'm gonna get this Mayor.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Kudos I told him when he first ran, I said, man,
they could challenge your age, but.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
They can't challenge your knowledge.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
And he's smart as a whip and he could put
them things together. So but kudos him that it was nice.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
It turned out really nice.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, yeah, it was just super so I was glad
to be a part of that.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
And what about the rumors about the rapture that be
in this past Tuesday. Did y'all hear about that? I'm
marked safe?

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yes, from the rapture? What is that? What was that? So?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Every it was a number of people who really believed
that the rapture that's referencing the Bible was going to
happen where God was gonna come back and take a
selective few.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
You know what, I'm tired of that they've been tricking
these people for a long time on the West side
of Chicago.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
I remember that Jackson and Lotus.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
And donated everything to the church and to the man,
and then when the rapture didn't happen, don't.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Go.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
I'm like, come on, y'all needs to stop this, stop
telling these people these lives or.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Do people need to do their own homework and not
be easily led?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Well, you know what, that's the topic that we could
be here for all days as far as I'm concerned.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
But people got to study.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
For themselves, absolutely, and they gotta understand the difference of
of how the thought process of everybody is not the same.
Because when I look at it, I look at the Bible,
it's a lot of questions, Yeah, that I have, and
I'll go to church. My faith and religion and all
that's different. But what made me think that.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
My Bible and my faith is all right?

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Right?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
What about other people? They got they live certain ways?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
So we can have a conversation on that forever, all right?

Speaker 1 (06:22):
I agree? I agree?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
And then kudos to Rock of Agents for the seventy
fifth church anniversary of fun Field weekend with the concert Friday, Saturday,
the yala and youth event, and then Sunday topped it
off with service.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
So and everybody that went to the lesion, God is
watching we y'all left that church.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Let y'all know, a real rapture right there.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah, it was a beautiful three. They had Brian Courtney Wilson.
He sung. He was a guest singer.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
At the Yeah the concert Friday.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
And then Saturday the event was at the Jury Lane.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
It was awesome, Yes, it was awesome. So we had
a great time. Who from Way to Why, from Way
to Wild?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
And then lastly missus Deborah Vines her events this weekend Saturday, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
The Metagala and let her come.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
She made the list I put on the list. Okay,
but she's been misbehaving. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I don't know. You might have to, all right, So
let's get into our guests and and your business ventures.
So tell us about who you are. And it's just
a background on any information you'd like to share with
us so the people can get to know you all.

(07:50):

Speaker 1 (08:16):

Speaker 6 (08:18):
So I'm Tori Gary. I've been in the Proviso Townships since.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Ninety six. Oh wow. I went to elementary school here.

Speaker 6 (08:33):
Then I moved away, my mom moved away. I went
to Massachusetts, finished school and then returned. And I actually
returned because of work for United Corporate America.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
And I've been here since.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Okay, all right, so do you still have a lot
You still have a lot of family here.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
I have a lot of family here.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
Okay, do you have Do you have family in Massachusetts?

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Now?

Speaker 6 (08:58):
My father's in Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Okay, yes, cool, all right, sir, and my killboy myself.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
My name is Michael.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
I am from Maywood, born and raised, been out here.
My family owned the autobody repair shop back in the days,
Freddie Gee's Body Shop. We painted everybody's.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Car thirteenth Yeah, we painted everybody's car.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
Uh, from the city back to Maywood. Been doing that
all my life. And then we jumped into this restaurant thing.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
We're following my wife. Okay, there you go.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Jumped into the restaurant business. And it's been you know, trying,
but uh we hit up.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
But before you did the restaurant, you had a little
candy yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
She started a candy.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
She did that.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
It started out as a candy store that had little
food and then now as we have grown, turn into
a restaurant that has a little bit of candy.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
So let's just pigging back on that.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
The candy store started and that's where yours originated. So
yours was are not for profit, which stands for your
own urban, reliable source. And we started yours because there
was a lot of rucks taking place on seventeenth and Madison,
and I was good friends with mister Williams man he

(10:33):
rest in peace, Don Williams, and he gave me the
opportunity to open. So we started off walking the kids
from Urban Elementary across the rough path of seventeenth and Madison.
But if they needed to be fed, we brought them
to the candy store and fed them first, then walked.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Them home because they didn't have bread.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
That's how you'res started, Okay, and that was back in
twenty sixteen.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Oh that's great, and then yours has just grown put
some respect on their yeah slash restaurant. Wow, Now what
are some of the I want?

Speaker 4 (11:17):
I wouldn't call them dishes per se, because you got quick,
quick food. So so what are some of the items
that people typically purchase from DNA store.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
Well, go ahead, So number one sellar is our rice
bolt and then we have basic Italian beef. They because
every kind of urban nacho you want, you can you
can get.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Okay, so this is this is still the store, yes,
and where's it at is just so we are.

Speaker 6 (11:49):
In the Old Tina Huts. Are amazed, and so we've
been at the Old Tina Huts space since twenty two.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Okay, right after.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
I'm still a good spot because you got a lot
of the tea of her regular estate, you know, often
came in the area.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
So yes, it took it took a while getting people
to you knowlatchallatch all they were used to. She was there,
she was a staple there, yeah, thirty years.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
But we got them now and now you know that's awesome.
Then so then now y'all, y'all have a baby.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
And y'all name him yours, Yes.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Yours, Yes, that's the baby the two candy stools on seventeen.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
So Slow had a baby.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Don't pay attention to her out there in the radio land.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Because she got a little one, and that little one
is wrong about she's a little lady.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
She really she's really the one that runs the candy store.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
She and ain't nothing wrong with it.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
So and then you you had the two stores and
you and your wife you sit down and she say, hey,
let's do something.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
How did that go? They with nothing like that?

Speaker 6 (13:15):
Right?

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Like that?

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Okay, y'all forgot about the game the game room that
you have. Yeah, so y'all done had a few businesses
prior to yours too, so it's in y'all.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, so it didn't go like that.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
We had the game room that was next to the
Tina her space, right, and that was set up as
a place for the kids when they get out of
school to come somewhere to be a safe haven, right
for the kids.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Until their parents come home. Right.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
It was part of the non for profit as well.
So we tied that together. And then my wife is
has a huge mind for dreaming of what she wants, right,
ain't no wrong, no, no no. And we were walking
we were looking for some property in Maywood and we

(14:07):
went looked at a piece of property and we got
into a bidding war with this property and we lost
the bed. So we were walking back shaking our heads,
you know, like man, we lost it. Right, and then
we was introduced to the space that we have now.
So we was like put a bed on it and
they accepted the bid.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
So that's the old piano show piano was right there, fifty.

Speaker 5 (14:33):
Pianos in it when we got it.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Yeah, we donated some, gave some away, and kept two
baby grand pianos.

Speaker 6 (14:40):
Butupt ahead just side with that because I like to
tell this short story. When we were looking before we
bought that, we bought some land in west Chester because
we were gonna build a house in west Chester before
I decided to run for office. And when we were

(15:01):
building a house, I was telling everyone like, when I
build this house, I don't care if I don't have
any furniture anything. I'm gonna have a grand piano that
like toy, can you play?

Speaker 2 (15:11):
I'm like, of course, not right on that big piano.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Good Christmas pictures? Yes. And then two.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Weeks later getting the grand piano. Wow, wow, grand. So
that you're planning the seed. In other words, I got.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
To and one one. Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
So you better ride with them dreams.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
At right.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Not today.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Over yeah, over.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Time to have some fun seven eight two two three,
eighty nine fifty three seven eight two, two three, eighty
nine fifty three. If you have any questions for these entrepreneurs,
that's doing positive live being great things for a long
time in the village in Maywood, like a family tradition
with the body shopping, all you guys coming out.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Man, this is a beautiful dream. But didn't mean.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
I just want the people if they got any questions
to call in because you got yours now.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
I was over there yesterday.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
I had a steak and uh we had Mississippi sausage.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
We had grits and eggs and me and my man moon.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
So we we we did his show yesterday morning and
then he said, come on, uncle, let me take you
down here to eat.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
I said where we're going. He said, we're gone to
yeas you know we gone.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Yeah, So I said, okay, big bro, I got to
I'm following you. So we we had a good treat
and tell them about yours and the menu and what
you guys offer as far as entertainment and rental space
and stuff like that.

and grits. We actually got a shrimp flight where you
can get shrimped and grits, cat fishing grits and ox
tails and grits.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Like what day is that again? Over there?

Speaker 6 (18:08):
And we're bringing some soulful stuff to the menu because
I want to bring up, of course, my mother's hot
water corn breade, So we're getting ready to bring that
to the menu along with some other.

most people four to five dollars, where everybody else is

be entrepreneurs. Leave them with something.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
That that that that makes your dream work and make motivate.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
Okay, this is something that I had an epiphany today.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
To get a wife like you gotta get a wife
like that. You don't got that it might not work.
Try to tell you might not work.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
I had an epiphany today that you know how they
got the cliche where people say if it was easy,
everybody would do it. Well, I came to the realization
today that if it's easy, we wouldn't do it. That's right,
If it was easy, we wouldn't be doing it right.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
We like the challenge.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
Get what I'm saying, challenge for champions exactly, you know
what I'm saying. So that's kind of like, uh, don't
be afraid to face adversities that you will run through
in trying to fulfill your dreams. Do your research. Research
is very important before you go into any kind of business.
Do your homework. You know, the resources are important. That's

(24:23):
what we lack in our culture and our community is
not having the resources or the funding to be able
to do what you need to do. So that was
a hurdle for us. And you know for people that's
trying to do it, do your homework. It's out there.
You just got to dig for it though. You know
it's out there.
