In 2015 she lost an additional cousin Keith to city gun violence─ his homicide case is still unsolved. Leslie is a survivor of domestic violence after her ex-husband would threaten her with a gun; to include the agony of emotional and physical abuse for over nine years. She states “This is why I joined the Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action — to fight gun violence of all types. Gun violence tears apart families everywhere. Gun violence is not just in Baltimore or New York or St. Louis. It is in rural parts of the country as well. Gun violence and domestic violence go together.” You too are a survivor if you’ve been threatened or wounded by a gun. Her survivor status is being a Gun Violence Prevention Advocate & Survivor Membership Lead for local chapter South East Missouri-Moms Demand Action.
