Jessica on a Journey: Decide to Live!

Jessica on a Journey: Decide to Live!

Welcome to the Decide to Live Podcast! I'm Jessica Larché, a morning news anchor in Norfolk, Virginia. Like many of us, I've struggled with weight issues much of my life. A few years ago, I was at a crossroads with my weight when I had a serious wakeup call. I was nearly 270 pounds at the age of 27, and diagnosed with high blood pressure. Doctors put me on medication, and I finally realized this wasn't just about a number on a scale or what size my dress was at the time. I had to make a choice. Would I keep making decisions that would damn my health, or, would I decide to live? By eating better, exercising more, going to therapy and leaning on God, I was able to shed 100 pounds. I decided to live! A healthier lifestyle is an uphill decision every single day. So, right here on "Decide to Live", I'll share what I'm learning along the way, and introduce you to friends on their own journeys to face the obstacles in their own lives. We've all got something to grow through, right?

Therapy is normal, needed and it changed the course my life. It took an abrupt encounter with anxiety and a panic attack while I was live on the air -- a moment I thought would end my career in television -- for me to embrace the healing and peace that comes with counseling. Therapy revealed anxiety was the source of my past toxic relationship with food. That revelation led me to healthier coping mechanisms to overcome anxiety...

Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach is one of my favorite places on Earth. A 60-foot-high mountain made from an old trash dump is a treasure to me. That big, beautiful mountain, surrounded by lakes, playgrounds, skate parks and a winding walking trail, is a source of joy for people far and wide. All at a place built on a pile of trash… Items that were discarded, devalued, and done away with, were used as the foundation for a place...

They are steps towards success if you can be patient enough to learn and lean forward. Join me on this episode of the Decide to Live Podcast as we fail our way to success!

"And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." The lyrics from that Lee Ann Womack song reminded me of a very important lesson I learned along this weight loss journey. No regrets from my past, but a lesson learned nonetheless. I hope this helps someone, too!
