Steve Webb (00:00):
We were made to
work. And even in heaven, there
will be work.
Coming to you from Riverside,California, this is the
Lifespring! One Year Bible andpodcasting since 2004, I'm your
OG Godcaster, Steve Webb. Hello, how are you today? It's Poetry
(00:24):
Thursday and our reading isProverbs, chapter 13. I'm
calling this episode "Is Work aCurse?" Before we get started,
let's have a word of prayer. Ourgracious heavenly Father, how we
thank you, Lord, for our timetogether. We thank you, Lord,
for your Word, and for revealingso much of yourself to us so
that we can know you. We thankyou for that, Lord. As we read
(00:45):
today, I pray, Lord, that youwould speak to us and that you
would give us something that wecan apply to our daily lives. I
pray this in Jesus' name, amen.Okay, are you ready? Let's
begin.
Proverbs, chapter 13. A wise sonlistens to the discipline of his
father, but a mocker doesn’tlisten to correction. People eat
(01:08):
well from the fruit of theirwords, but the treacherous have
an appetite only for violence.People who watch their mouths
guard their lives, but those whoopen their lips are ruined. The
lazy have strong desires butreceive nothing; the appetite of
the diligent is satisfied. Therighteous hate false words, but
(01:30):
the wicked create disgust andscorn. Righteousness guards the
innocent on the path, butwickedness misleads sinners.
Some pretend to be rich but havenothing, while others pretend to
be poor, but have great riches.Wealth can ransom a person’s
life, but the poor don’t evenreceive threats. The light of
(01:53):
the righteous rejoices, but thelamp of the wicked goes out. The
empty-headed cause conflict outof pride; those who take advice
are wise. Riches gotten quicklywill dwindle, but those who
acquire them gradually becomewealthy. Hope delayed makes the
heart sick; longing fulfilled isa tree of life. Trouble will
(02:18):
come on those who despise aword, but those who respect the
commandment will be rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a
fountain of life, turning aperson away from deathtraps.
Good insight brings favor, butthe way of the faithless is
their ruin. The prudent all actintelligently, but fools display
(02:40):
their stupidity. Wickedmessengers fall into trouble,
but a reliable one bringshealing. Poverty and shame come
to those who don’t care aboutinstruction; honor belongs to
those who heed correction. Adesire fulfilled is pleasant,
but fools find deviating fromevil disgusting. Walk with wise
(03:04):
people and become wise; befriendfools and get in trouble.
Trouble pursues sinners, butgood things reward the
righteous. Good people leavetheir grandchildren an
inheritance, but the wealth ofsinners is stored up for the
righteous. A poor person’s landmight produce much food, but it
(03:25):
is unjustly swept away. Thosewho withhold the rod hate their
children, but the one who lovesthem applies discipline. The
righteous eat their fill, butthe wicked have empty stomachs.
So one of the themes in chapter13 is industriousness. Did you
know there's a tremendous valuein hard work and applying
(03:48):
yourself to supporting yourselfand your family? Sitting around
wishing and hoping for wealth oreven life's necessities usually
reaps nothing but ruin. Yes,Jesus said that if the Father
cares for the sparrows, hecertainly cares more for us and
that if we seek him, thenecessities will be provided to
us. But God gave most of us theability to earn our way in one
(04:11):
way or another. And for thosewho are unable to do so, because
of real and extremecircumstances, God expects
family and churches to step in.The idea that the government
should provide for able-bodiedpeople is not a biblical
principle. This is somethingthat's been a recent invention
in human history and one thatrarely helps the individual or
(04:32):
society itself. A person who canwork should work. Government
handouts create dependency, theexact opposite of
industriousness. We were made towork and even in heaven, there
will be work. Does that surpriseyou? Revelation 22:3 tells us
that in the New Jerusalem, “Thethrone of God and of the Lamb
(04:53):
will be in the city, and hisservants will serve him.” His
servants? Yeah, that's you andme. But work in heaven will not
be like work here. It will notbe drudgery. It'll not be hard
labor, and there won't be anypetty rivalries or office
politics. Our work will be toserve the Lord and it will be
(05:13):
satisfying and rewarding. Godcreated us to work. In the
Garden of Eden even before Adamand Eve sinned, Genesis 2:15
tells us, “The Lord God took theman and put him in the Garden to
work it and to take care of it.”And Eve was to be Adam's
"helper." Thus, she, too, wasdesigned for work. So that tells
(05:34):
us that work itself is not partof the curse. But hard and
painful toil is. Are we not madein the image of God? Did you
ever think of God as being onewho works? Well, Jesus in
answering the Pharisees as towhy he did work on the Sabbath
said in John 5:17. “My Father isalways at his work to this very
(05:57):
day, and I too am working.” Soagain, we are made to work
because we are made in God'simage. Work isn't something to
be avoided. Work can be a nobleand good part of life. Paul said
in Colossians 3:23, “Whateveryou do, work at it with all your
heart, as working for theLord...” What do you think? How
(06:23):
do you feel about work? I'd loveto know. Am I all wet? Do you
agree with me? Do you disagree?Let me hear from you. Call the
Lifespring Family Hotline at+1-951-732-8511 or send a
comment via boostagram and youcan even go to
comment.lifespringmedia.com andtype in your answer. I read
every comment and I just mightplay your audio comment or read
(06:46):
your comment on the show. Sodon't be shy. Let me hear from
you. Tomorrow will be ProphecyFriday and our reading will be
Ezekiel 37 through 42.
James in Norway sent in hismonthly $20 donation making him
(07:07):

Boostagram
AndO from "Burn, Babylon Burn"sent in a Loaves and Fishes
boostagram. That's 5000 sats. And he said, "Big love to The OG
Godcaster. I made my first triparound the sun with you starting
my day. My ears haven't yetreceived the full Bible due to
your month off. I am so gladyou're back and better than

thank you very much AndO! Biglove right back at you, Brother.

last couple of seasons I'vetaken off about a month between
seasons, and that's what he'sreferring to about the month
off. Each season is a day lessthan a year 364 episodes per
(07:51):
season. So to save you fromdoing the math, that means that
after this episode, there are156 episodes left to this season
since this is episode 208 ofseason 13. And Fountain user
2558 sent in two 500 satboostagrams for the last two
episodes with their note beingthe customary "Thank you!" Well,
(08:11):
you're welcome, and thank you2558. God bless you. And the sat
streamers are hanging in therestreaming those sats in as they
listen. I see you and Iappreciate you so much. God
bless each one of you. And,Beloved, if you'd like to get in
on the sat streaming fun, justlook at your podcast app right
now. Do you see a boost button? Then you're halfway there. All
(08:32):
you need to do is in, your app, find your wallet, then add some
funds to it. Now each app doesit a bit differently. But if
you're using Fountain, you canget instructions at
lifespringmedia.com/fountain.And if you're using Podverse,
instructions are atlifespringmedia.com/podverse. If
you're on another app, there's agood chance you can find
(08:52):
instructions at the app'swebsite. And if you need more
help, feel free to email me. Nowif you just looked down at your
podcast app and you didn't see aboost button on your app, it's
time to try out a shiny newmodern up-to-date one. Go to
podcastapps.com and look around. But why would you want to switch
apps? Well, because it's a goodfeeling to support your favorite
(09:13):
podcasts. And it's fun to sendboostagrams and hear them read
on the show. It's all a part ofthe value-for-value model which
is biblical, by the way. Thereare several scriptures that tell
us that those who labor, especially laborers for God,
deserve to be compensated fortheir work. This podcast is and
always will be free for you tolisten to, but it is by no means
(09:34):
free for me to provide it toyou. So if the Lord leads you to
support the show, I wouldappreciate your donations. Would
you pray about it? Everydonation is greatly appreciated.
Some can afford just a little, others more. That's fine. I'm
trusting God to provide. All Iask is that you listen to him
when he prompts you to give andhere's where you can do that:
