He emphasizes that there are things that must happen before the Lord's return, and it's crucial for believers to fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples and obeying Jesus' teachings. While it's important to be aware of the signs that indicate the end times, focusing solely on the return of Jesus can lead believers astray and negatively impact their lives and the lives of their followers. One of the signs that Paul points out is the rise of the man of sin, who will oppose everything that is called God and set himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself as God. The world seems to be ready for this figure, with many turning away from God and religion. Despite the likelihood of the man of sin's arrival, believers should continue to focus on their mission of making disciples and living in a way that reflects the peace and hope they have in knowing Jesus. Steve Webb (00:00):
Our job is to keep our eye on the ball.
Coming to you from Riverside,California, this is the
Lifespring! One Year Bible Andpodcasting since 2004. I'm your
OG Godcaster. Steve Webb, today's epistle Sunday And we'll

(00:22):
read the book of SecondThessalonians. We'll also have a
time of praises And prayerrequests. Before we get started.
Let's have a word of prayer. OurHeavenly Father, we thank you
for our time together And we askyou to bless us as we read. I
pray this in Jesus name. Amen. All right, let's begin.

(00:42):
Second Thessalonians chapterone. I Paul And writing this
letter, Silas And Timothy, joinme in writing. We are sending
this letter to you the membersof the church in Thessalonica.
You belong to God our Father Andthe Lord Jesus Christ. May God
the father in the LORD JesusChrist give you grace in peace.

(01:04):
Brothers And sisters, we shouldalways thank God for you. That
is only right, because yourfaith is growing more And more.
The Love you all have for eachother is increasing. So among
God's churches, we brag aboutthe fact that you don't give up
easily. We brag about your faithAnd all the suffering And
testing you're going through. All of this proves that when God

(01:26):
judges he is fair. So you willbe considered worthy to enter
God's kingdom. You are sufferingfor His Kingdom. God is fair, he
will pay back trouble to thosewho give you trouble. He will
help you who are troubled And hewill also help us. All of those
things will happen when the LordJesus appears from heaven. He

(01:46):
will come And blazing fire, hewill come with the angels who
are given the power to do whatGod wants. He will punish those
who don't know God, He willpunish those who don't obey the
good news about our Lord Jesus, they will be destroyed forever.
They will be shut out of heaven. They will never see the glory of
the Lord's power. All of thosethings will happen when he comes

(02:09):
on that day his glory will beseen in his holy temple.
Everyone who is believed will beamazed when they see him. That
includes you, because youbelieved the witness we gave
you. Keeping this in mind, wenever stopped praying for you
are a God has chosen you. Wepray that he will consider you
worthy of his choice. We praythat by His power, he will make

(02:32):
every good thing you haveplanned come true. We pray that
he will make perfect all thatyou have done by faith. We pray
this so that the name of ourLord Jesus will receive glory
through what you have done. Wealso pray that you will receive
glory through what he has done.We pray all these things in
keeping with the grace of ourGod in the Lord Jesus Christ.

(02:54):
Second Thessalonians chaptertwo. Brothers And sisters, we
want to ask you something. Ithas to do with the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ. It concernsthe time when we will go to be
with him. What if you receive aprophecy report or letter that
is supposed to have come fromus? What if it says that the day
of the Lord has already come? Ifit does, we ask you not to

(03:16):
become easily upset or alarmed.Don't let anyone trick you in
any way. That day will not comeAnd tell people rise up against
God. It will not come until theman of sin appears. He is a
marked man. He is sentenced tobe destroyed. He will oppose
everything that is called God.He will oppose everything that

(03:37):
is worshipped. He will givehimself power over everything.
He will set himself up in God'stemple, he will announce that he
himself is God. Don't youremember, when I was with you, I
used to tell you those things. Now you know what is holding the
man of sin back. He has heldback so that he can make his
appearance at the right time. The secret power of sin is

(03:59):
already at work. But the one whonow holds that power back we'll
keep doing it until he is takenout of the way. Then the man of
sin will appear. The Lord Jesuswill overthrow him with a breath
of his mouth. The gloriousbrightness of Jesus coming will
destroy the man of sin. Thecoming of the man of sin will be
Satan's work. His work will beseen in all kinds of fake

(04:22):
miracles, signs And wonders. Itwill be seen in every kind of
evil that fools people who aredying. They're dying because
they refuse to love the truth. The truth would save them. So
God will fool them completely. Then they will believe the lie.
Many will not believe the truth. They will take pleasure And

(04:42):
evil, they will be judged.Brothers And sisters, we should
always thank God for you. TheLord loves you. God chose you
from the beginning. He wantedyou to be saved. Salvation comes
through the Holy Spirit's work.He makes people holy. It also
comes Through believing thetruth, he chose you to be saved

(05:03):
by accepting the good news thatwe preach, And you will share in
the glory of our Lord JesusChrist. Brothers And sisters
stand firm. Hold on to what wetaught you. We passed our
teachings on to you by what wepreached And wrote, Our Lord
Jesus Christ, And God our Fatherloved us. By His grace, God gave

(05:24):
us comfort that will lastforever. The hope he gave us is
good. May our Lord Jesus Christin God our Father, comfort your
hearts. May they make you strongin every good thing you do And
say,
Second Thessalonians chapterthree. Finally, brothers And
sisters, pray for us. Pray thatthe Lord's message will spread

(05:46):
quickly. Pray that others willhonor it just as you did. And
pray that we will be saved fromsinful And evil people. Not
every one is a believer. But theLord is faithful, He will
strengthen you, he will guardyou from the evil one. We trust
in the Lord. So we are sure thatyou are doing the things we tell
you to do. And we're sure thatyou will keep on doing them. May

(06:09):
the Lord fill your hearts withGod's love. May Christ give you
the strength to go on. BrothersAnd sisters, here's a command we
give you in the name of the LordJesus Christ. Keep away from
every believer who doesn't wantto work. Keep away from anyone
who doesn't live up to theteaching you receive from us.
You know how you should followour example. We worked when we

(06:31):
were with you. We didn't needanyone's food without paying for
it. In fact, it was just theopposite. We worked night And
day, we worked very hard, sothat we wouldn't cause any
expense to any of you. We workedeven though we have the right to
receive help from you. We did itin order to be a model for you
to follow. Even when we werewith you, we gave you a rule we

(06:53):
said anyone who will not workwill not eat. We hear that some
people among you don't want towork. They aren't really busy.
Instead, they are botheringothers. We belong to the Lord
Jesus Christ. So we stronglycommand people like that to
settle down, they have to earnthe food they eat. Brothers And
sisters, don't ever get tired ofdoing the right thing. Keep an

(07:17):
eye on anyone who doesn't obeythe directions in our letter.
Watch that person closely. Havenothing to do with him, then he
will feel ashamed. But don'tthink of him as an enemy.
Instead, warn him as a brotheror sister. May the Lord who
gives peace give you peace atall times. And in every way. May
the Lord be with all of you. IPaul write this greeting in my

(07:40):
own handwriting. That's how Iprove that I am the author of
all my letters, I always do itthat way. May the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ be with youall.
In chapter two, Paul was tellingthe church at Thessalonica that
they shouldn't panic when peoplecome around saying that Jesus
had already returned. Yes, Jesusis coming back to be sure. And

(08:03):
it will be a very good thingwhen he does. But there are some
things that have to happenbefore he has returned. And Paul
tells them a few things to lookout for. We'll talk about that.
But first, it's important toknow that these are not the only
things that must happen beforethe Lord returns. Now, some
people have made a career oftrying to decipher all the
prophecies given in the Bibleabout the end times. And while

(08:26):
it is an interesting thing tostudy, it's more important to
live our lives in such a waythat we fulfill our part of the
Great Commission. The last thingJesus said before he was taken
up to heaven was Go And makedisciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name ofthe Father And the Son And the
Holy Spirit, teaching them toobey everything I've commanded

(08:47):
you. well, some people havegotten off that track. They've
forgotten about those partinginstructions of Jesus, And they
focused on watching for Hisreturn. And in the process,
they've gotten so off the mark, that they have ruined lives,
their own And their followers.Don't do that. Be aware of the
signs but stay focused on doingthe business that Jesus gave us

(09:11):
to do. So having said that, let's look at the signs that
Paul pointed out here in SecondThessalonians chapter two. In
verses three And four, Paulsaid, Don't let anyone trick you
in any way, that day will notcome until people rise up
against God. It will not comeuntil the man of sin appears. He

(09:31):
is a marked man. He is sentencedto be destroyed. He will oppose
everything that is called God.He will oppose everything that
is worshipped. He will givehimself power over everything.
He will set himself up in God'stemple, And he will announce
that he himself is God. well, Ihave to say that from that

(09:53):
description, it sounds like thiscould happen almost any day
doesn't it? People are turningagainst God all around the
world. church attendance hasbeen trending down here in
America for some time. And ofcourse, the pandemic made it
worse. But this is not just anAmerican phenomenon. Much of
Europe has already turned itsback on God And the same is true
of Asia, then make no mistake,Islam is the fastest growing

(10:17):
religion in the world right now.I've made a study of it. And I
can tell you beyond a shadow ofa doubt, that the God of Islam
is not the God of the Bible. Icould spend hours comparing And
contrasting Allah with a trueAnd loving And holy God of the
Bible. But that's not what we'rehere for. But with the growth of
Islam, it is obvious that peopleare turning away from the one

(10:40):
true God. Now it seems as if theworld is ready for the one Paul
called the man of sin. And it ismy personal opinion that this
man could very well be alivetoday. I've already said on the
show here, I believe that thetime is short before these
things happen. But my job is notto stop everything And wait for

(11:01):
that day to arrive. Nor is thatyour job. Our job is to keep our
eye on the ball to do what Jesustold us to do, to make disciples
to live in such a manner thatothers will see a difference, a
good difference in us. Letpeople see that even though the
world may be falling apart. Wehave the peace that passes all

(11:23):
understanding, because we knowthe One who holds the future. If

Steve Webb (12:37):
Today we have both praises And prayer requests. And
the first one is from Sean ofSan Pedro. He said Brittany And
I have been wondering where weare meant to be And when we
should go there. SouthernCalifornia has been home to us
our whole lives And we love thearea. But it's becoming less And
less comfortable for us to livehere. And impossible for us to

(12:58):
imagine raising our son And anypossible other children here.
After much prayer Andconsideration. We've committed
to moving to the Phoenix areathis July. We're asking for
prayer for God to guide us towhere he wants us to be. And for
him to help us with the numerousdecisions And difficult process
And transition. And they alsoasked us to pray for the church

(13:20):
family that they're going to beleaving behind as well. So
there's that. But then he alsosaid as a praise we've received
blessing after blessing here inthe Southern California area And
are so grateful for those. We'vebeen slowly breaking the news to
our jobs And church family overthe last week. And of course
there is some pain And concernbut overall the news has been

(13:42):
well received. And people areunderstanding And supportive. We
thank God for that. well, brother, Shawn, oh my goodness,
this is big news. I mean, rightnow you live just a little over
an hour away. And it's alwaysbeen kind of nice to know you're
there And now you're going to beall the way in Phoenix. That's
okay though the internet makesthe world seem like just a tiny

(14:05):
little ball. So yes, we'll prayfor you. And we're praising God
with you to for the blessingsthat you have received here
because it is a blessing to livein Southern California even with
some of the problems we have. Sothank you for that brother Shawn
will certainly pray with you Andfor you. And then beloved,
yesterday, I told you that I hadan exciting praise to share with

(14:27):
you. Well on Thursday BryanDuncan went with his wife,
Cassie to USC Medical Center, asI've already told you, so that
she could be examined by aneurologist for the pain on the
side of her face. well, I'vesince found out that the name of
her disorder is trigeminalneuralgia. I looked it up so I
could have a betterunderstanding of what it is And

(14:48):
here's what the Mayo Clinic saystrigeminal neuralgia is a
condition that causes painfulsensations similar to an
electric shock on one side ofthe face. This chronic pain
condition affects the trigeminalnerve which carries sensation
from your face to your brain. Ifyou have trigeminal neuralgia,
even mild stimulation of yourface, such as from brushing your

(15:10):
teeth or putting on makeup maytrigger a jolt of excruciating
pain. well, that sounds exactlylike what Bryan has told me,
Cassie symptoms have been forthe last four years. Now, here's
what the Mayo Clinic says aboutthe cause of the disease just in
case you're curious. Intrigeminal neuralgia, the
trigeminal nerves function isdisrupted. Usually the problem

(15:31):
is contact between a normalblood vessel in this case an
artery or a vein. And thetrigeminal nerve at the base of
your brain. This contact putspressure on the nerve And causes
it to malfunction. Now, here aresome of the triggers that can
set it off. Shaving, touchingyour face, eating, drinking,
brushing your teeth, talking, putting on makeup, a breeze

(15:53):
lightly blowing over your face, smiling, washing your face. So
can you imagine how debilitatingthis can be? How many times do
we do these things in a day?well, Cassie can hardly eat
because of the pain And she'sjust become skin And bones. Just
moving around can trigger it. Soshe spends most of her days in a
chair sleeping. And the drugsthey've given her sometimes

(16:15):
cause stroke like symptoms. Thefirst time that happened, Bryan
thought that she was dying. Sohere's what Bryan texted me from
the doctor's office on Thursday. He said, praise God, a doctor is
recommending microvasculardecompression surgery at last.
Okay, so what is microvasculardecompression surgery? What they
do is they go into the back ofyour skull in a small quarter

(16:37):
sized hole that they cut, Andthey separate the nerve from
everything around it. And thesuccess rate is about 97%
According to the doctor withreasonable long term pain
relief. So I said praise theLord for that. But does the
insurance coverage still have toagree to this? Ban? His reply
was yes, it still has to beapproved by the insurance. But

(16:58):
they said they've never had aproblem with insurance with this
kind of a surgery. He said Ihope they're right. Even if they
aren't, we will find a wayforward regardless. So praise
the Lord for that right. Andobviously we need to pray that
the insurance company willapprove it And then that the
operation will be successful. Sopraise God. This is something

(17:20):
we've been praying about forquite some time ever since Bryan
told me about it. All right, solet's pray. Our gracious
heavenly Father, Lord, again, wethank you for telling us what to
watch for in the end days. And Ipray God that you would help us
not to concentrate on that, butto concentrate on what you've
called us to do And to be. Andnow Lord, I thank you so much

(17:42):
for brother Sean of San PedroAnd sister Brittaney. For the
blessing that they've been to ushere last year when Shawn was
doing the chapters, And thisyear with Brittaney, doing the
newsletter, And I just lift themup to you, Lord, now that you
would give them direction asthey move to Phoenix, guide them
as to where to go And what jobsyou'd have them do. Direct them

(18:04):
Lord to a church that they canbe participating members in And
where you can use them. Lord, Ipray, I ask you, Lord, to have
your hand on them. And also wepray for their church family
here in Southern California. Iknow Brittaney has been an
integral part of theirchildren's program. And I pray,
Lord, that you would bringsomeone in who can if not

(18:25):
completely fill Brittaney shoes,do the job And be blessed by it
And someone, Lord that you'vealready picked out. I know,
again, Lord, I just pray thatYou would bless their little
family And that you would givethem direction in every step.
And Father, we thank you so muchfor this doctor at USC Medical
Center that saw Cassie, we thankYou, Lord, that He sees the need

(18:47):
And that he's willing to do it.I pray now, Lord, that the
insurance company would givetheir approval And that the
surgery would take place veryquickly And that it would be
successful. Bless Bryan AndCassie And help the time to go
quickly until surgery canhappen. I thank you for the
Lifespring family for each onethat's here. And I pray

(19:08):
specifically now for thefountain user named s Merrick
when three Lord as a newbeliever, I pray God that you
would bless them that you wouldfirmly establish them in the
faith And that they would havean unquenchable thirst for the
word And for closer fellowshipwith you. And I pray that Lord
for each one of us, each one ofthe Lifespring family, I pray

(19:29):
that we would always desire acloser walk with you. Lead us,
Lord, guide us And direct us Ipray this in Jesus name, amen.
