It’s the Law Monday, and we’ll read Numbers 21-24. I’m calling this episode “Balaam’s Eager Disobedience.“

Summary
In Numbers 22, the story revolves around Balaam and Balak. Balak sends messengers to Balaam, urging him to come and curse the Israelites. At first, God instructs Balaam not to go because He has blessed the Israelites. However, Balak sends more distinguished messengers, tempting Balaam with promises of great honor and wealth. Although Balaam outwardly declares his loyalty to God, he expresses his willingness to see if God has any other instructions. This reveals a temptation within him. God grants Balaam permission to go with the men if they come to call him. However, Balaam acts out of eagerness and disobeys by immediately getting up and going with them. This eagerness, coupled with his pursuit of personal gain, angers God. God does not look favorably upon those who conspire to harm His people, and Balaam's actions go against God's instructions.
In Numbers 24, Balaam disappoints Balak once again, but he remains faithful to delivering the message God has given him. This narrative teaches us an important lesson. Despite our failures and sins, we can turn back to God, confess our wrongdoings, and continue to serve His purposes. Our credibility may feel tarnished, but by seeking forgiveness and allowing God to use us, we can still be effective instruments for Him. It is vital not to let the enemy discourage us or rob us of the blessings that come from following God's will. Throughout the Bible, we see imperfect individuals who failed at times, yet God accomplished His will through them. The same applies to us if we persevere, remain faithful, and do not give up or give in to despair.

Numbers chapter 21. And whenKing a read the Canaanites,
which dwelt in the south, heard,tell that Israel Cain by the way
of the spies, then he foughtagainst Israel, And took some of
them prisoners. And Israel voweda vow unto the Lord And said, If

thou wilt indeed deliver thispeople into my hand, then I will
utterly destroy their cities,And the Lord hearkened to the
voice of Israel, And deliveredup the Canaanites, And they
utterly destroyed them And theircities, And he called the name

Lord let balem see the angelstanding in the road holding his

treat your donkey like that. Iwas the one who blocked your way
because I don't think you shouldgo to Moab. If your donkey had
not seen me And stop those threetimes, I would have killed you

And let the donkey live. balemreplied. I was wrong. I didn't
know you were trying to stop me.If you don't think I should go
I'll return home at once. It'sall right for you. to go, the
Lord's angel answered, but youmust say only what I tell you.

tempted somewhat even though hesaid with his lips, that even if

whom he had blessed? Now this iswhat God said to balem the
version we read today, And manyother versions really don't
convey the original meaning. Inthe Hebrew what God said was, if
the men come to call you rise upAnd go Have them, but only say
(20:01):
what I tell you to say, well,let's stop here for a moment.
And this is an important point.God allows us to do many things
that he does not endorse, right?Sometimes he'll allow us to
succumb to our own wicked Andlustful hearts. He allows us in
effect, to touch the hot stoveto see that it will burn us. I
can imagine balem laying in hisbed that night thinking how cool
(20:24):
it was that these importantvisitors had come into his
humble home. He felt important.And I can also imagine him
laying there fantasizing aboutthe honors that they lack would
bestow on him once he arrived.And maybe he got to thinking,
No, I think he definitely got tothinking about the palace full
of silver And gold. So in themorning, what happened was,

remember God said if they cometo call you, but instead of
balem, waiting for the guys tocome show up to get him. The
word tells us that in themorning, he got up And went, he
didn't wait for them to get him.balem was too eager. He wanted
to get his hands on the treasureBay like promised him, so he did
not follow God's instruction.Remember, the reason that bale
(21:08):
accent for balem was so thatbalem would come And curse the
Israelites God's chosen people.well, God doesn't look with
favor upon those who conspire toharm his people, or those who
seek to gain favor with thosewho conspire to harm his people.
So that's why God became angryat Balan. Does that help? Now
let's move on to numbers 24balem, once again, disappointed
(21:30):
they lack I guess in a way youkind of have to hand it to be
lack he wasn't one to give upeasily. And it is also good to
see that despite the inauspicious beginning of his time
with the lack balem was faithfulto what God told him to say.
There is a good lesson to learnfrom this, how many times do we
sin And then feel as if becauseof that sin, we can't be a
(21:51):
useful instrument for God. Wemight even think that since
others saw our sin, ourcredibility is completely
ruined. well, here in these fewchapters of numbers, we see that
that is not the case. We canmake an about face, we can turn
in the right direction Andcontinue walking with God. And
we can go on to be a voice forhim And be effective. Don't let
(22:14):
the enemy of your soul stealaway the blessing of following
after God And doing His willjust because you stumble, if
will confess our failure to God,He will forgive us. He can And
he will use us for His glory.Remember, every person we've
read about or will read about inGod's word, except for Jesus was
imperfect. Every one of themfailed at one time or another.

And some of them failed multipletimes. And still, God
accomplished his will throughthem. Despite their failings
when they seek his forgivenessAnd follow Him. He will do the

that he did go? Were youconfused by that? Is God a
capricious God? well, of coursenot. But I was confused too. So

I did some digging And this iswhat I found. Bay lac sent
messengers first to ask bailthem to come And curse the
Israelites. But God told bailhim not to go since he God had
blessed them. So bail accenteven more distinguished
messengers with the additionalmessage that he would confer
great honor upon balem. And inso doing, they lack was really

And this is an important point.God allows us to do many things
that he does not endorse, right?Sometimes he'll allow us to

let's move on to numbers 24balem, once again, disappointed

they lack I guess in a way youkind of have to hand it to be
lack he wasn't one to give upeasily. And it is also good to
see that despite the inauspicious beginning of his time
with the lack balem was faithfulto what God told him to say.
There is a good lesson to learnfrom this, how many times do we
sin And then feel as if becauseof that sin, we can't be a

useful instrument for God. Wemight even think that since
others saw our sin, ourcredibility is completely
ruined. well, here in these fewchapters of numbers, we see that
that is not the case. We canmake an about face, we can turn
in the right direction Andcontinue walking with God. And
we can go on to be a voice forhim And be effective. Don't let

after God And doing His willjust because you stumble, if
will confess our failure to God,He will forgive us. He can And
he will use us for His glory.Remember, every person we've
read about or will read about inGod's word, except for Jesus was
imperfect. Every one of themfailed at one time or another.
