Transcript Podcast Introduction Today is Psalms Wednesday. We’ll read chapter 111-113. I’ll have a brief introduction before reading each chapter, and after the reading I’ll have some comments. And of course I’ll have an “On This Date In Church History” segment for you, too. I’m calling today’s episode  “I Will." Design: Steve Webb | Photo: Hanny Naibaho on Unsplash Comments on Psalm 112 Praise the Lord! I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation. Psalm 112: 1 NKJV Notice the psalmist says, "I will praise the Lord...". He does not say, "I feel like praising the Lord...". It is an act of will, not an emotion.  Face it, sometimes we do not feel like praising the Lord. Maybe we have had a difficult week, or we've been on the outs with our spouse, or money ran out before the month did. Or maybe we are just in a dry spell with the Lord.  Does any of that change who God is? Of course not. No matter what happens in our own life, God is still God. He is still worthy of praise, and when we decide that we *will* praise the Lord with our whole heart, 99 times out of 100, our emotions will be lifted up as we lift up the name of the Lord. I know, because I have experienced it myself, and have talked to others who agree. When you are feeling down, or afraid, or lonely, or like God doesn't hear you, praise the Lord with your whole heart.  Remember the old milk commercial? Milk. It does a body good. Let's change it up. Praise. It does a spirit good. Today's Bible Translation Bible translation used in today's episode: Ch. 111-113 NKJV Support This a value for value podcast. Psalm 111, like the rest of thePsalms we have today has no
Psalms chapter 111. Praise theLord. I will praise the Lord

(01:05):
title or author attribution.Psalm 111 is an acrostic which
means that in Hebrew each of the22 lines begins with successive
letters except for the firstline which begins with the
Hebrew word hallelujah or inEnglish. Praise the Lord. Being
an acrostic makes the psalmeasier to memorize if you speak Hebrew,

(01:33):
with my whole heart in theassembly of the upright and in
the congregation. The works ofthe Lord are great studied by
all who have pleasure in them. His work is honorable and
glorious, and his righteousnessendures forever. He has made His
wonderful works to beremembered. The Lord is gracious
and full of compassion. He hasgiven food to those who fear

(01:55):
Him, He will be ever mindful ofhis covenant. He has declared to
his people the power of hisworks in giving them the
heritage of the nations. Theworks of His hands are Verity
injustice, all his precepts aresure they stand fast forever and
ever and are done in truth anduprightness. He has sent

(02:16):
redemption to his people. He hascommanded His covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is His name. The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom, a goodunderstanding have all those who
do His commandments, his praiseendures forever.
Psalm 112 is very similar toPsalm 111. This is what James

(02:38):
Montgomery Boice wrote aboutthese two Psalms, they are the
same length. They fall intoidentical stanzas and they even
have identical or similarphrases occurring at the same
places in each. Both are preciseacross texts, that is they have
22 lines, each of which beginswith a successive letter of the
Hebrew alphabet. Also, beloved, were 111 declared the glory of

(03:03):
God 112 was about the man wholoves and serves God.
Psalms chapter 112 Praise theLord bless it is the man who
fears the Lord who delightsgreatly in his commandments. His
descendants will be mighty onEarth, the generation of the
upright will be blessed. Healthand riches will be in his house

(03:27):
and his righteousness enduresforever. Unto the upright, there
arises light in the darkness. Heis gracious and full of
compassion and righteous. A goodman deals graciously and lens he
will guide his affairs withdiscretion. Surely he will never
be shaken, the righteous will bein everlasting remembrance. He

(03:49):
will not be afraid of eviltidings. His heart is steadfast
trusting in the Lord. His heartis established, he will not be
afraid until he sees his desireupon his enemies. He has
dispersed abroad, he has givento the poor, his unrighteousness
endures forever. His horn willbe exalted with honor. The

(04:11):
wicked will see it and begrieved. He will gnashed his
teeth and melt away, the desireof the wicked shall perish.
There are three specific groupsof Psalms in the book of Psalms
which are called Hallel. One ofthose groups begins with this
Psalm 113, and it ends withPsalm 118. These six psalms are

(04:33):
called the Egyptian Hillelbecause they're associated with
a Passover, which marks Israel'sdeliverance from Egypt. The
Psalms were sung as part of thePassover observance and Psalms
113 and 114. were sung beforethe meal and Psalms 115 through
118 were sung after the meal. Ihave a question for you. When

(04:54):
was Jesus crucified? Just beforethe Passover? What did he do
before the At His crucifixion? He celebrated the Passover meal
with His disciples. So it's mostlikely that he sang these songs
with His disciples on his lastnight with them. both Matthew
and Mark made mention in theirgospels that they sang a hymn

(05:15):
and went out to the Mount ofOlives, which is where he prayed
to the Father asking, if it ispossible that this cup of
suffering be taken away from me,yet I want your will to be done
not mine. After he prayed thisprayer, Judas betrayed Him with
a kiss. So as we read this song, listen carefully and imagine
what he must have thought andfelt as he sang, knowing that he

(05:37):
would soon be betrayed into thehands of those who would put him
to death.
Psalms chapter 113. Praise theLord, praise all servants of the
Lord, praise the name of theLord, bless it be the name of
the Lord, from this time forthand forevermore. From the rising
of the sun to it's going down. The Lord's name is to be

(06:00):
praised. The Lord is high aboveall nations, his glory above the
heavens, who is like the Lordour God who dwells on high, who
humbles himself to behold thethings that are in the heavens
and in the earth. He raises thepoor out of the dust and lifts
the needy out of the trash heap, that he may seed him with
princes with the princes of hispeople. He grants the barren

(06:24):
woman a home like a joyfulmother of children, praise the
Lord.
Beloved, did you notice that allthree of the Psalms we read
today began the same way. Theybegan with praise the Lord.
Psalm 112, said, praise theLord, I will praise the Lord
with my whole heart in theassembly of the upright and in

(06:45):
the congregation. Notice thatthe psalmist says, I will praise
the Lord. He doesn't say I feellike praising the Lord for this
psalmist it's an act of will. It's not an emotion. Let's face
it, sometimes we don't feel likepraising the Lord, do we? Maybe
we've had a difficult week ormaybe we're on the outs with our

(07:06):
spouse, or money ran out beforethe month dead. Or maybe we're
just in a dry spell with theLord. So does any of that change
who God is? Of course not. Nomatter what happens in our life,
God is still God. He's stillworthy of praise. And when we
decide that we will praise theLord with our whole hearts 99

(07:28):
times out of 100 our emotionswill be lifted up as we lift up
the name of the Lord. I knowthis because I've experienced it
myself. And I've talked toothers who agree. When you're
feeling down or afraid or lonelyor like God doesn't hear you.
Praise the Lord with your wholeheart. Do you remember that old
milk commercial? Milk? It does abody good. Well, let's change

(07:52):
that up. Praise. It does aspirit good. What do you think?
I'd love to hear your comments, let me know at Lifespring
media.com/s 12 e 259. Tomorrowis poetry Thursday and we're in
the Proverbs we'll read chapter25. Boost.

for Shawn's friend who was inthe ER I don't know anything at
all about why he was there orhis present condition, but you
know, and that's all that'snecessary. Bring him healing
Lord, he has children, socomfort them as you do the same

(10:20):
for this man. We pray that youwould be glorified in this
situation, and that they allwill look to you and know that
you are with them. I pray thatYou would bless the Lifespring

the hero that stopped theshooter at the Geneva

(11:29):
a bit more context from CBSNews. Authorities also
identified the sole churchgoerkilled as Dr. John Cheng, a
sports medicine doctor who tookheroic action in charged the
gunman. While Cheng rushed thesuspect. It was said that his
actions allowed the other churchgoers who ranged between 66 and
90 years old, to subdue thegunman, undoubtedly saving more

(11:52):
lives. Cheng leaves behind awife and two children official
said two additional victims havebegun recovering and are now
