of Jacob, who turned the rockinto a pool of water, the flint
into a fountain of waters.
Psalms chapter 115. Let honor begiven to your name and not to
us, oh Lord, not to us, becauseyou are loving and kind and
faithful. and why should thenation say where is their God
now? But our God is in theheavens. He does whatever he

(03:21):
wants to do. Their gods aresilver and gold, the work of
human hands, they have mouthsbut they cannot speak. They have
eyes but they cannot see. Theyhave ears but they cannot hear.
They have noses but they cannotsmell. They have hands but they
cannot feel they have feet butthey cannot walk. They cannot

(03:41):
make a sound come out of theirmouths. Those who make them and
trust them will be like them. OhIsrael, trust in the Lord. He is
their help and safe covering. Ohhouse of Aaron trust in the
Lord. He is there help and safecovering you who fear the Lord,
trust in the Lord. He is therehelp and safe covering. The Lord

(04:03):
has remembered us and will makegood come to us. He will make
good come to the house ofIsrael. He will make good come
to the house of Aaron. He willmake good come to those who fear
the Lord both the small and thegreat. May the Lord make your
numbers grow both you and yourchildren. May you be given good
things by the Lord, the maker ofheaven and earth. The heavens

(04:25):
belong to the Lord, but he hasgiven the earth to the children
of men. The dead do not praisethe Lord. Neither do those who
go down into the quiet place. But we will give honor and
Thanks to the Lord now andforever. Praise the Lord.
Psalm 116. and I love the Lordbecause He hears my voice and my

(04:46):
prayers. I will call on him aslong as I live because he has
turned his ear to me. Thestrings of death are all around
me. and the fear of the gravecame upon me. I suffered with
trouble and sorrow. Then I callHold on the name of the Lord, oh
Lord, I beg you saved my life. The Lord is loving and right.

(05:06):
Yes, our Lord is full of lovingkindness. The Lord takes care of
the child like I was broughtdown and he saved me. Return to
your rest, oh my soul, for theLord has been good to you. For
you, oh Lord have saved my soulfrom death, my eyes from tears
and my feet from falling. I willwalk with the Lord in the land

(05:26):
of the living. I believe when Isaid, I am very troubled. I said
in my fear, all men are liars. What should I give to the Lord
for all the good things he hasdone for me, I will show him my
Thanks for saving me with a giftof wine and praise his name. I
will keep my promises to theLord before all his people. The

(05:46):
death of His holy ones is ofgreat worth in the eyes of the
Lord. For sure, I am yourservant, oh Lord, I am your
servant, the son of the womanwho served you. You have set me
free from my chains, I will givea gift of Thanks to you and call
on the name of the Lord. I willkeep my promises to the Lord
before all his people in theholy place of the Lord. and in

(06:08):
the center of you, O Jerusalem, praise the Lord.
What are your thoughts? Do youhave comments or questions?
Contact information is at theend of the show today, and
tomorrow will be poetryThursday, we'll read Proverbs 26
and 27.

(06:29):
This is number 16 in our serieson the essentials of the faith,
I hope you're learning somethingor enjoying the review of what
we believe and why we believewhat we believe. Today I'm going
to look at the following. It isa privilege of all who are born
again of the Spirit to beassured of their salvation from
the very moment in which theytrust Christ as their Savior.

(06:51):
This assurance is not based uponany kind of human merit, but it
is produced by the witness ofthe Holy Spirit, who confirms in
the believer the testimony ofGod in His written Word. Okay,
so that's a lot of words, isn'tit? Let's take it a thought at a
time shall we? It is theprivilege of all who are born
again of the Spirit. well, let'sstop right there. In John

(07:15):
chapter three, starting at verseone we read. Now there was a man
of the Pharisees namedNicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by nightand said to him, Rabbi, we know
that you're a teacher come fromGod, for no one can do the signs
that You do unless God is withthem. Jesus answered him, Truly,
truly I say to you, unless oneis born again, he cannot see the

(07:39):
kingdom of God. Nicodemus saidto Him, How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter asecond time into his mother's
womb and be born? Jesusanswered, Truly, truly I say to
you, unless one is born ofwater, and the Spirit, he cannot
enter the kingdom of God, thatwhich is born of the flesh is

(07:59):
flesh, and that which is born ofthe Spirit is spirit. So
Beloved, this gives us the basisfor the beginning of today's
statement. All of us have beenborn once, haven't we? This is
the birth of the flesh thatJesus referred to. But because
of our sin nature, which we'vetalked about before on these
essential segments, because ofthat sin nature, we must also

(08:21):
have a spiritual birth. InEphesians, two, one, the apostle
Paul wrote this to the churchand Ephesus, and you were dead
in the trespasses and sins inwhich you once walked. So he was
saying that before they believedthey were spiritually dead
because of their sins. Now, doesthat mean that the church was
made up of a bunch of badpeople, thieves and liars and

(08:43):
murderers? well, probably not, though there may have been some,
but there were probably alsosome virtuous people as well.
People who paid their taxes ontime obeyed the speed limit and
helped old ladies across thestreet. Ball was talking to them
to even they were dead intrespasses and sin. How could
this be? well, in Romans 323,Paul gives us the answer he

(09:06):
wrote, For all have sinned andfall short of the glory of God.
So all of us, beloved, areguilty of sin, and all are thus
spiritually dead. Jesus saidthat we must be born of the
spirit of our first birth, thebirth of the flesh made us
children of Adam. and as wetalked about previously, we

(09:27):
therefore inherited his sinnature. So we need a second
birth, a spiritual birth, whichmakes us children of God. So
here's the first sentence again. It is a privilege of all who are
born again of the Spirit to beassured of their salvation from
the very moment in which theytrust Christ as their Savior.

(09:47):
Okay, so let's look at this partto be assured of their
salvation. I've got some newsfor you. All of us are going to
die someday, unless the Lordreturns first. None of us have a
guarantee of tomorrow. or eventhe next minute. So the question
is, if you were to die today, would you go to heaven? Many
people would answer that with, well, I hope so I'm a good

(10:11):
person or something similar.well, the thing is, as we've
already said, All have sinnedand fall short of God's
standards. But we can be surethat we will go to heaven. It
doesn't have to be a guess.Listen to this from First John
511, through 13. and this is thetestimony that God gave us

(10:31):
eternal life, and this life isin His Son, whoever has the Son
has life. Whoever does not havethe Son of God does not have
life. I write these things toyou who believe in the name of
the Son of God, that you mayknow that you have eternal life.
Did you hear that? That you mayknow that you have eternal life.

(10:52):
Listen to Jesus word in John1028 and 29. I give them eternal
life, and they will neverperish, and no one will snatch
them out of my hand. My Fatherwho has given them to me, is
greater than all, and no one isable to snatch them out of My
Father's hand. If you have putyour faith in Jesus Christ, you

(11:15):
have eternal life, you have it.Now, Jesus said it, you will
never perish, you will neverdie. Sure our bodies will die.
But I look at death as sort of agraduation. We'll close our eyes
here and open them in heaven, inHis presence, hidden that's a
guarantee right out of the mouthof Jesus. Next, here's our

(11:38):
opening sentence once more. Itis the privilege of all who are
born again of the Spirit to beassured of their salvation from
the very moment in which theytrust Christ as their Savior.
Listen, when Jesus wascrucified, there were two other
men hanging on their own crosseson either side of him. We don't
know their specific sins, they're often referred to as the

(12:00):
thieves on the cross. Could bethat they were just thieves. But
it was not common for the Romansto give the death penalty to
common thieves. They wereprobably some kind of hardened
criminals. Now listen to Luke2339 343, one of the criminals
who were hanged railed at himsaying, Are you not the Christ,

(12:20):
Save yourself and us? But theother rebuked him saying, Do you
not fear God since you are underthe same sentence of
condemnation? and we indeedjustly, for we are receiving the
due reward of our deeds, butthis man has done nothing wrong.
and he said, Jesus, remember mewhen you come into your kingdom?

(12:42):
and he said to him, Truly I sayto you, today, you will be with
Me in Paradise. So beloved, assoon as that criminal placed his
faith in Jesus, even he had theassurance of salvation. All he
did was believed that Jesus waswho He said He is. That truly is
the heart of the gospel. Butgood news. So my question for

(13:06):
you is this. If you were to dietoday, would you go to heaven?
Have you placed your faith inJesus? Have you asked him to
forgive your sins? Have youturned your life over to Him? If
you're not sure that you've donethat, would you do it now? You
can mark this day is the daythat your eternal address

(13:27):
changed? How about it, make itofficial? If you have never made
that decision, decide now,Scripture says that today is the
day of salvation. Pray with menow. Ready? Pray with me. Lord
Jesus, I know that I'm a sinner.I'm so sorry. and right now, I

(13:50):
turn away from that sin. I amasking you to come into my life
and be my Lord, my Savior, myfriend, and my God. I'm putting
my faith in you alone, Jesus tosave me from my sins. Thank you,
Lord, for loving me and callingme Your name I pray. Amen. well,

(14:15):
hallelujah. Beloved, if youprayed that prayer and you meant
it in your heart, put this dateon your calendar as the day that
you believed in Jesus. You are anew person beginning right now.
Behold, the old is gone. The newhas come. Scripture says that
heaven rejoices when one comesto salvation and this is your

(14:36):
day. If you prayed that prayer,I would love to send a new
believers Bible to you at nocharge. It's a special edition

up with this assurance is notbased upon any kind of human

(15:19):
merit, but it is produced by thewitness of the Holy Spirit who

Word. If you have any commentsor questions I would love to

Praises and prayer requests,James in Norway said this note
when he said a quick response toyour comments on the Sunday
praises and prayer requests.Dad's Apple Watch reading was
indeed 2% or less. This weekreport shows 8% with a minor
three hour AFib episodes, hereckons he overdid it again. The
question now is whether to gofor another round of ablation in

(16:02):
September, or hope that the AFibjust goes away before then. I'm
praying for God to heal theheart. and he continues as for
the word boss, it's justsomething I picked up in the 80s
to poke fun at the 70s. Ifanyone is saying it in Norway
these days, it's my fault. andThanks again, Steve for helping
us to pray and I'm glad youreyeball surgery went well. well,

(16:25):
thank you James. For the bossnote, we'll pray that the Lord
will guide the decision on goingfor another round of ablation or
better yet, as you said, ahealing of your dad's heart. and
speaking of my eyeball, I had myone week post op appointment

You might even say it looksbadass. I don't have to wear the

shield over my I want to go tobed anymore. and I can resume
normal activities with norestrictions. Pretty cool, isn't
it? Praise the Lord. I wasputting three different kinds of
eyedrops in four times a day.and now I'm only doing two
different drops three times perday. and next week, it'll be
twice a day and then done Ithink if I remember what she
said, and it's written downsomewhere. So anyway, I'm

(17:09):
thanking the Lord. I have anappointment in September to see

But how great it is that she'sliving life again, isn't it?
Praise the Lord. Let's pray. Ourloving Heavenly Father, Lord, we
praise You for being the God whohears us. You're not far removed
from us. You're always closerthan a brother. As David wrote,
where can I go from your spirit?Where can I flee from your

(17:52):
presence. If I go up to theheavens, you're there. If I make
my bed in the depths, you'rethere. If I rise on the wings of
the dawn, if I settle on the farside of the sea, even there,
your hand will guide me. Yourright hand will hold me fast.
Hallelujah Lord, it is so goodto know that you are always
there. Thank you for beingfaithful. Thank you for being
