Lord at your appointed feasts, besides your vowed offerings and
your free will offerings as yourburnt offerings and your grain
offerings as your drinkofferings and your peace
offerings. So Moses told thechildren of Israel everything
just as the Lord commandedMoses,
Numbers chapter 30. Moses spoketo the heads of the tribes of
(05:48):
the people of Israel saying,This is what the Lord has
commanded. If a man vows a vowto the Lord or swears an oath to
bind himself by a pledge, heshall not break his word, he
shall do according to all theproceeds out of his mouth. If a
woman vows a vow to the Lord andbinds herself by a pledge, while
within her father's house in heryouth, and her father hears of
(06:10):
her vow and of her pledge bywhich she has bound herself and
says nothing to her, then allher vows shall stand and every
pledge by which she has boundherself shall stand. But if her
father opposes her on the daythat he hears of it, no valid
hers, no pledge by which she hasbound herself shall stand, and
the Lord will forgive herbecause her father opposed her
(06:31):
if she marries the husband, while under her vows, or any
thoughtless utterance of herlips by which she has bound
herself, and her husband hearsof it and says nothing to her on
the day that he hears that hervow shall stand, and her pledges
by which she has bound herselfshall stand. But if on the day
that her husband comes to hearof it, he opposes her. Then he
makes void her vow that was onher and the thoughtless
(06:54):
utterance of her lips by whichshe bound herself in the Lord
will forgive her. But any vow ofa widow or a divorced woman,
anything by which she has boundherself shall stand against her.
and if she vowed in herhusband's house or bound herself
by a pledge with an oath, andher husband heard of it, and
said nothing to her and did notoppose her, then all her vows
(07:15):
shall stand, and every pledge bywhich she has bound herself
shall stand. But if her husbandmakes them Nolan void on the day
that he hears them, thenwhatever proceeds out of her
lips concerning her vows areconcerning her pledge of herself
shall not stand, her husband hasmade the void, and the Lord will
forgive her. Any valid anybinding oath to afflict herself
(07:36):
her husband may establish or herhusband may make void. But if
her husband says nothing to herfrom day to day than he
establishes all her vows are allher pledges that are upon her.
He has established them becausehe said nothing to her on the
day that he heard of them. Butif he makes them null and void
after he has heard of them, thenhe shall bear her iniquity.
(07:58):
These are the statutes that theLord commanded Moses about a man
and his wife, and about a fatherand his daughter while she is in
her youth within her father'shouse.
Numbers chapter 31. The Lordspoke to Moses and said, pay
back the Midianites for whatthey did to the Israelites,
after that, you will die. SoMoses said to the people, get
(08:20):
some men ready for war, the Lordwill use them to pay back the
Midianites sent to war 1000 menfrom each of the tribes of
Israel. So 12,000 men got readyfor war. 1000 men from each
tribe, Moses sent those men towar, Phineas son of Le A's or
other priests was with them. Hetook with him the holy things in
(08:41):
the trumpets forgiving thealarm. They fought the
Midianites as the Lord hadcommanded Moses, and they killed
every Midianite man. Among thosekilled were II VI, recomb zur
her and Reba, who were the fivekings of Midian. They also
killed balem, son of br with thesword. The Israelites captured
(09:02):
the Midianite women andchildren, and they took all
their flocks, herds, and goods. They burned all the Midianite
towns where they had settled andall their camps, but they took
all the people and animals andgoods. Then they brought the
captives, the animals and thegoods back to Moses and Eliezer,
the priest and all theIsraelites. Their camp was on
(09:22):
the plains of Moab near theJordan river across from
Jericho. Moses Eliezer, thepriest and all the leaders of
the people went outside the campto meet them. Moses was angry
with the army officers, thecommander's over 1000 men and
those over 100 men who hadreturned from war. He asked
them, Why did you let the womenlive? They were the ones who
(09:45):
followed Baylands advice andturned the Israelites from the
Lord at PR. Then a terriblesickness struck the Lord's
people, kill all the Midianiteboys and kill all the Midianite
women who have had sexualrelations, but save for yourself
As the girls who have not hadsexual relations with a man, all
human who killed anyone ortouched a dead body must stay
(10:07):
outside the cap for seven days.On the third and seventh days,
you and your captives must makeyourselves clean. You must clean
all your clothes in anythingmade of leather, goat hair, or
wood. Then le A's or the priestsaid to the soldiers who had
gone to war, these are theteachings that the Lord gave to
Moses, put any gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin or lead,
(10:32):
anything that will not burn intothe fire, and then it will be
clean. But also purify thosethings with the cleansing water,
then they will be clean. Ifsomething cannot stand the fire,
wash it with water. On theseventh day, wash your clothes
and you will be clean. Afterthat you may come into the camp.
(10:54):
The Lord said to Moses, you, leA's of the priest and the
leaders of the family groupsshould take account of the
goods, the men and the animalsthat were taken, then divide
those possessions between thesoldiers who went to war and the
rest of the people from thesoldiers who went to war take a
tax for the Lord have one itemout of every 500 This includes
(11:16):
people cattle, donkeys or sheep.Take it from the soldiers half
and give it to Eliezer thepriest as the Lord share, and
from the people SAF take oneitem out of every 50. This
includes people, cattle, donkeys, sheep are other
animals. Give that to theLevites who take care of the
Lord's holy tent. So Moses andEliezer did as the Lord
(11:38):
commanded Moses, they remainedfrom what the soldiers had taken
675,000 Sheep 72,000 cattle61,000 Donkeys in 32,000, women
who had not had sexual relationswith a man, the soldiers who
went to war got 337,000 sheep, and they gave 675 of them to the
(12:00):
Lord. They got 36,000 cattle, and they gave 72 of them to the
Lord. They got 30,500 Donkeysand they gave 61 of them to the
Lord. They got 16,000 people, and they gave 32 of them to the
Lord. Moses gave the Lord shareto Eliezer the priest, as the
Lord had commanded him. Mosesseparated the peoples half from
(12:24):
the soldiers, half the peoplegot 337,500 sheep, 36,000
cattle, 30,500 donkeys, and16,000 people from the People's
half, Moses took one item out ofevery 50 for the Lord. This
included the animals and thepeople. Then he gave them to the
(12:44):
Levites, who took care of theLord's holy tent. This was what
the Lord had commanded Moses. Then the officers of the Army,
the commanders of 1000, men andcommanders of 100 men came to
Moses, they told Moses, we Yourservants have counted our
soldiers under our command, andnot one of them is missing. So
we have brought the Lord a giftof the gold things that each of
(13:07):
us found armbands, bracelets,Signet rings, earrings and
necklaces. These are to removeour sins so that we will belong
to the Lord. So Moses andEliezer, the priest took the
gold from them which had beenmade into all kinds of objects.
The commanders of 1000 men andthe commanders of 100 men gave
the Lord the gold, and all of ittogether weighed about 420
(13:30):
pounds. Each soldier had takensomething for himself, Moses and
Eliezer, the priest took thegold from the commanders of 1000
men and the commanders of 100men. Then they put it in the
tent of meeting as a memorialbefore the Lord for the people
of Israel.
Numbers chapter 32. The tribesof Reuben and Gad had many
(13:51):
cattle. These people looked atthe land near Jazer in Gilead,
they saw that this land was goodfor their cattle. So the people
from the tribes of Reuben andGad came to Moses, they spoke to
Moses, le A's or the priest, andthe leaders of the people. They
said, We Your servants have manycattle, and the land that the
Lord let the people of Israelcapture is good land for cattle.
(14:14):
This land includes the areaaround Ashtaroth di bon, Jazer,
Nimra, Heshbon, le ala sigmaNiebo and beyond. If it pleases
you, we would like this land tobe given to us don't take us to
the other side of the JordanRiver. Moses told the people
from the tribes of Reuben andGad, will you let your brothers
(14:34):
go and fight while you settlehere? Why are you trying to
discourage the Israelites? Youwill make them not want to cross
the river and take the land thatthe Lord has given to them. Your
fathers did the same thing tome. In Kadesh Barnea, I sent
spies to look at the land. Thesemen went as far as as called
Valley. They saw the land andthey discouraged the Israelites.
(14:55):
These men made the Israelitesnot want to go into the land
that the Lord had given to them. The Lord became very angry with
the people who made thispromise. None of the people who
came from Egypt and are 20 yearsold or older, will be allowed to
see this land. I made a promiseto Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I
promised to give this land tothese people, but they did not
(15:16):
really follow me. Only Caleb sonof Jephunneh, the Canaanite and
Joshua's son of Nun reallyfollow the Lord. The Lord was
very angry with the Israelites. So he made the people stay in
the desert for 40 years. He madethem stay there until all the
people who had sinned againstthe Lord were dead. and now
you're doing the same thing thatyour father's did. You sinful
(15:38):
people. Do you want the Lord tobe even more angry with this
people? If you stop followingthe Lord, He will make Israel
stay even longer in the desert, then you will destroy all these
people. But the people from thetribes of Reuben and Gad went to
Moses, they said, We will buildcities for our children and
barns for our animals here, thenour children can be safe from
(16:00):
the other people who live inthis land. But we will gladly
come and help the otherIsraelites, we will bring them
to their land, we will not comeback home until everyone in
Israel has taken his part of theland. We will not take any of
the land west of the JordanRiver, no are part of the land
is east of the Jordan River. SoMoses told him, if you do all
(16:21):
these things, this land willbelong to you. But your soldiers
must go before the Lord intobattle. Your soldiers must cross
the Jordan River and be ready tofight for the Lord until he
forces the enemy to leave. Afterthe Lord helps us all take the
land, you can go back home, thenthe Lord and Israel will not
think that you are guilty, andthe Lord will let you have this
(16:43):
land. But if you don't do thesethings, you will be sinning
against the Lord, and know forsure that you will be punished
for your sin, build cities foryour children and barns for your
animals. But then you must dowhat you promised. Then the
people from the tribes of Gadand Reuben said to Moses, we are
Your servants. You are ourmaster. So we will do what you
(17:05):
say. Our wives, children and allour animals will stay in the
cities of Gilead. But we Yourservants will cross the Jordan
River. We will march before theLord into battle, as our master
says. So Moses Eliezer, thepriest, Joshua, son of Nun, and
all the leaders of the tribes ofIsrael heard them make that
(17:25):
promise. Moses said to them, thepeople of Gad and Reuben will
cross the Jordan River, theywill march before the Lord into
battle. They will help you takethe land, and you will give the
land of Gilead is their part ofthe country. But if they do not
cross the river with you readyto fight, they will not get any
land on this side, they will getonly a share of the land of
(17:47):
Canaan with the rest of you. Thepeople of Gad and Reuben
answered, we promised to do whatthe Lord commanded. We will
cross the Jordan River and Marchbefore the Lord into the land of
Canaan. and our part of thecountry is the land east of the
Jordan River. So Moses gave thatland to the people of God, to
the people of Reuben, and tohalf the tribe of Manasseh.
(18:10):
Manasseh was Joseph son. Thatland included the kingdom of Sai
Han the Amorite and the kingdomof King OG ovation and all the
cities around that area. Thepeople of Gad built the cities
of di Bong at a Roth Aroer attroff show fan Jazer jog Baja
Beth Nimra and Beth heron. Theybuilt cities with strong walls
(18:33):
and they built barns for theiranimals. The people of Reuben
built Heshbon Lea Allah curiofam Niebo, Bale, Mian and sigma.
They use the names of the citiesthat they rebuilt, but they
changed the names of Niebo inbail neon. People from makers
family went to Gilead maker wasManasa son. They defeated the
(18:54):
city. They defeated the Amoriteswho live there. So Moses gave
Gilead to maker for the tribe ofManasseh and his family settled
there, Jaya from the family ofManasa defeated the small towns
there. Then he called them townsof jer Nova defeated key naff
and the small towns near yet, then they call that place by its
(19:15):
own name.
Today, beloved, I've gotcomments on chapters 29 and 31.
Last week in chapter 28, andtoday in 29, we learned about
the offerings that the Lord toldMoses, the children of Israel
were to make during the year, there was number one, the daily
offerings, number two Sabbathofferings, number three monthly
(19:40):
offerings. Number four, Passoverofferings. Number five, Feast of
Weeks offerings, number six,Feast of Trumpets offerings,
number seven, Day of Atonementofferings and number eight, the
Feast of Tabernacles offerings. Now in order for Israel to
fulfill these offerings everyyear, the priests Sacher faced
(20:00):
113 bulls 32 rams, over 2000pounds of flour, about 1000
bottles of oil and wine, and1086 lambs without blemish. and
these totals do not include thesacrifices made by individuals
or households. Now, since thesacrifices were to be made every
(20:21):
year, we know that they wereinadequate to forgive sin. This
was a perpetual, ongoingdemonstration of the need for
the one who would bringforgiveness, of course, that one
is Jesus. Now notice the numberof lambs without blemish 1086.
That's an awful lot ofofferings, right? The number of
(20:42):
bulls 113 pales in comparison. But these pointed to the coming
Messiah. In John 129. Jesus iscalled the Lamb of God who takes
away the center of the world.Only Jesus could accomplish this
is one sacrifice was sufficientto bring forgiveness to anyone
who had put their faith in Him.Jesus said in John 316, through
(21:07):
17, For God so loved the worldthat He gave His only begotten
Son that whoever believes in Himshould not perish, but have
everlasting life. For God didnot send His Son into the world
to condemn the world, but thatthe world through Him might be
saved. Hallelujah. Now let'stalk a little bit about chapter
(21:28):
31. In Numbers 22, bilac, theking of Moab said a contingent
made up of elders of Moab andelders of Midian, to bail him to
bring him to meet with Bay lac,so that he could ask balem to
put a curse on the children ofIsrael, so that he could defeat
him, you remember that? I'msure. That was our B's chapter.
Now, in their meeting, they lackoffered balem a large reward if
(21:52):
he would curse them, of course,God wouldn't allow it. So they
lack told balem that he wouldnot get the reward. Of course,
I'm cutting it way, way down. But hang on to that thought, Bay
lack wanted balem to curseIsrael, so that they lacked
could defeat them, and Godwouldn't allow it. But what God
would not allow the Moabites andMidianites to do to the children
(22:13):
of Israel, they did tothemselves. In Numbers. 25, we
read that the Israelite peoplewere seduced into sexual sin
with the women of Moab. and theythe Israelites worshipped false
gods with the Midianite women.and of course, God became very
angry with the people of Israel, and he brought judgment against
them in the form of a plague.and it was only when Phineas out
(22:35):
of righteous anger killed one ofthe Israelite men and the
Midianite woman he was with thatGod stopped the plague. Now,
here in chapter 31, verse one,the Lord spoke to Moses and
said, pay back the Midianitesfor what they did to the
Israelites. So in chapter 25,God brought judgment on Israel
(22:55):
for their guilt. But after that, here in 31, God brought judgment
on the Midianites for theirguilt. and remember balem in
Revelation 214, Jesus said tothe church, and Pergamum there
are some among you who hold tothe teaching of balem, who
taught bilac to entice theIsraelites to sin, so that they
(23:15):
ate food sacrificed to idols, and committed sexual immorality.
So it was balem, who wasresponsible for the idea that
nearly brought ruin to Israel. It was Baylands idea. He's the
one that told the people ofMidian and Moab to get the
Israelites to commit thisimmorality with the women and to
(23:36):
worship the false idols. Now,after he did this Baylin
presumably finally did get hisreward from Baylor back. But
here in chapter 31, verse eight,we read that he was killed along
with every Midianite man. Now,after the battle, the Israelite
men brought back the plunder inthe spoils from the battle. and
Moses became angry, because theybrought back the women and
(24:00):
children with the other spoilsof war. Why did he become angry?
What harm could come from womenand children? Well, some of
these women were part of theimmorality that the Israelites
had become involved in allowingthese women to live among them
was to invite further disaster. So Moses said that all the women
who had been with a man must bekilled, but those who had not
(24:22):
been with a man and thus who didnot participate in that
immorality could be spared. andwhat about the boys in this
culture, the male children wouldhave grown up with the
responsibility to take revengeon Israel for killing their
fathers and also to keep theMidianite culture alive. So this
is why Moses had all the malechildren killed. Well, what are
