(00:45):
begin.
Second Chronicles chapter 11.When Rehoboam arrived in
Jerusalem, he mustered Judah andBenjamin, the 180,000, able
young men to go to war againstIsrael and to regain the kingdom
for Rehoboam. But this word ofthe Lord came to CheMin the man
of God, say to Rehoboam, son ofSolomon, King of Judah, and to
(01:09):
all Israel and Judah andBenjamin, this is what the Lord
says, Do not go up to fightagainst your fellow Israelites
go home every one of you forthis as my doing. So they obeyed
the words of the Lord and turnedback from marching against
Jeroboam. Rehoboam lived inJerusalem and built up towns for
defense in Judah, Bethlehem,Edom, to koa Beth zur SoCo, a
(01:34):
Dahlem GAF, Maria Ziff at Areum,Lake Hische, a Zika, Zora, a
Jalon, and Hebron. These werefortified cities in Judah and
Benjamin, he strengthened theirdefenses and put commanders in
them with supplies of food, olive oil and wine. He put
shields and spears in all thecities and made them very
(01:54):
strong. So Judah and Benjaminwere his. The priests and
Levites from all their districtsthroughout Israel sided with
him. The Levites even abandonedtheir pasture lands and property
and came to Judah and Jerusalembecause Jeroboam and his sons
had rejected them as priests ofthe Lord when he appointed his
own priests for the high places, and for the goat and calf idols
(02:15):
he had made those from everytribe of Israel who set their
hearts on seeking the Lord theGod of Israel, follow the
Levites to Jerusalem to offersacrifices to the Lord, the God
of their ancestors. Theystrengthened the kingdom of
Judah and supported Rehoboam, son of Solomon three years
following the ways of David andSolomon during this time
(02:36):
Rehoboam married may laugh whowas the daughter of David's son
Jeremiah and of Abba Hale, thedaughter of Jessie son Eliab.
She bore him sons GS Shem Arayaand ze him then he married may
occur daughter of Absalon whobore him of aija at high Zaza
and shalom with Rehoboam lovedmay occur daughter of Absalom
(02:58):
more than any of his other wivesand concubines. In all he had 18
wives and 60 concubines 28 sonsand 60 daughters. Rehoboam
appointed a byjus son of Meccaas crown prince among his
brothers in order to make himking. He acted wisely dispersing
some of his sons throughout thedistricts of Judah and Benjamin
(03:20):
into all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions
and took many wives for them.
Second Chronicles chapter 12.But as soon as Rehoboam had
secured his royal power, healong with all Israel abandoned
the Lord's instruction. Egypt'sKing Shai Shaq attack Jerusalem
in the fifth year of KingRehoboam, because Israel had
(03:42):
been unfaithful to the Lord, accompanying Shai shack from
Egypt were 1200, chariots,60,000 horses, and countless
Libyan suck ICT and Kushitewarriors. He captured the
fortified cities of Judah andcame towards Jerusalem. Then the
Prophet Shemaiah went toRehoboam and the leaders of
Judah who had gathered toJerusalem because of shy shack
(04:04):
and told them, This is what theLord says, Since you have
abandoned me. Now I amabandoning you to shy shacks
power, then the leaders ofIsrael and the king submitted,
the Lord is right. They said,When the Lord saw that they had
submitted the Lord's word cameto Shemaiah. Since they have
submitted I won't destroy them.I will deliver them in a little
(04:26):
while, and I won't use shy shackto pour out my anger against
Jerusalem. Nevertheless, theywill be subject to him so that
they learned the differencebetween serving me and serving
other nations. Egypt's KingShake Shack attacked Jerusalem
and seized the treasures of theLord's temple and the royal
palace. He took everything eventhe gold shields Solomon had
(04:49):
made. King Rehoboam replacedthem with bronze shields and
assign them to the officers ofthe guard who protected the
entrance to the royal palace.Whenever the king entered the
Lord's temple, the guard guardswould carry the shields and then
return them to the guard room. When Rehoboam submitted, the
Lord was no longer angry withhim and total destruction was
avoided. There were after all, some good things still in Judah.
(05:13):
So King Rehoboam was securelyestablished in Jerusalem.
Rehoboam was 41 years old whenhe became king, and he ruled 17
years in Jerusalem, the city theLord had chosen from all the
tribes of Israel to put hisname. His mother's name was
named from Amman. But Rehoboamdid what was evil because he
didn't set his heart on seekingthe Lord the deeds of Rehoboam
(05:37):
from beginning to end, aren'tthey written in the records of
the Prophet Shemaiah and theseer Iddo, including the
genealogical records, there wascontinual warfare between
Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Rehoboamlay down with his ancestors and
was buried in David's City. Hisson Elijah succeeded him as
king.
Second Chronicles chapter 13.Elijah became king over Judah in
(05:58):
the 18th year of King Jeroboam. He ruled for three years in
Jerusalem. His mother's name wasMikayla, she was Urals daughter
from Libya. When war broke outbetween a budget and Jeroboam, a
by Jo went to fight with an armyof 400,000 Select troops against
(06:19):
Jeroboam, select forcesnumbering 800,000, who were
arrayed in battle formation, byjust stood on the heights of
mountains EMRAM in airframes,Highlands and said, Listen to
me, Jeroboam at all Israel.Surely you know that the Lord
Israel's God made an unbreakablecovenant with David and his
descendants, that they wouldrule Israel forever. It was
(06:42):
Jeroboam the bat son, theservant of Solomon, David's son,
who rebelled against his master, when some useless, worthless
people join his cause. Theyoverpowered Rehoboam Solomon
son, who was too young and timidto resist them. and now do you
intend to challenge the Lord'sroyal rule entrusted to David's
descendants, you may have anumerical advantage as well as
(07:06):
the gold calves Jeroboam madefor you as gods, but you've
banished the Lord's priests,Aaron sons along with the
Levites so that you couldappoint your own priests as
other countries do. Now, anyonewho shows up with a young bull
and seven rams can become apriest of these phony gods, but
us, the Lord is our God, and wehaven't abandoned him. Aaron's
(07:28):
descendants serve as the Lord'spriests assisted in the work by
the Levites. every morning andevery evening they offer
entirely burned offerings andfragrant incense to the Lord and
set out breads and stacks upon aclean table. At night, they
light the lamps on the goldlampstand. Yes, while you are
abandoning the Lord our God, weare doing what He requires.
(07:51):
Listen, God is on our side atour head, along with his priests
who are ready to sound thebattle trumpets against you. So
Israelites don't fight againstthe LORD, the God of your
ancestors for you won't succeed.Meanwhile, Jeroboam had sent
troops around behind them for anambush so that the main force
was in front of Judah, while anambush was behind. When Judah
(08:15):
looked around and suddenlyrealized that they were
surrounded, they cried out tothe Lord while the priests
sounded the trumpets and raisedthe battle cry. When they raised
the battle cry, God defeatedJeroboam and all Israel before
they buy in Judah. So theIsraelites fled before Judah,
and God gave Judah the victoryby John and his people struck
(08:36):
them severely. 500,000 Selectwarriors were killed. Israel was
subdued on that occasion, andJudas succeeded because they
relied on the Lord the God oftheir ancestors. baijal pursued
Jeroboam and took these citiesaway from him Bethel Jeshua and
de fron along with theirvillages. Jeroboam failed to
(08:58):
regain power during the time ofAbuja, the Lord finally struck
him down and he died. Elijah, however, grew strong. He married
14 wives, he had 22 sons and 16daughters, the rest of obliges
deeds, what he did and what hesaid, are written in the account
of the Prophet Iddo.
Second Chronicles chapter 14When Obi Jia died, he was buried
(09:22):
in the city of David, then hisson ASA became the next king.
There was peace in the land for10 years. Asa did what was
pleasing and good in the sightof the Lord his God. He removed
the foreign altars and the paganshrines, he smashed the sacred
pillars and cut down the Asherahpoles. He commanded the people
of Judah to seek the Lord theGod of their ancestors, and to
(09:45):
obey His law and his commands.Asa also removed the pagan
shrines as well as the incensealtars from every one of Judas
towns. So Oasis Kingdom enjoyeda period of peace during those
peaceful years. He was able tobuild up the fortified towns
throughout Judah. No one triedto make war against him at this
(10:05):
time, for the Lord was givinghim rest from his enemies. Asa
told the people of Judah, let usbuild towns and fortify them
with walls, towers, gates andbars. The land is still ours
because we sought the Lord ourGod, and He has given us peace
on every side. So they wentahead with these projects and
brought them to completion. KingASA had an army of 300,000
(10:30):
warriors from the tribe ofJudah, armed with large shields
and spears. He also had an armyof 280,000 warriors from the
tribe of Benjamin, armed withsmall shields and bows. Both
armies were composed of welltrained fighting men. Once an
Ethiopian named Zira attackedJudah with an army of a million
men and 300 chariots. Theyadvanced to the town of Maria So
(10:54):
Asa deployed his armies forbattle in the valley north of
Maria. Then ASA cried out to theLord his God, oh, Lord, no one
but you can help the powerlessagainst the mighty. Help us, oh
Lord our God, for we trust inyou alone. It is in your name
that we have come against thisvast horde. Oh, Lord, You are
our God. Do not let mere menprevail against you. So the Lord
(11:18):
defeated the Ethiopians in thepresence of Asa in the army of
Judah and the enemy fled. Asaand his army pursued them as far
as Dirar and so many Ethiopiansfell that they were unable to
rally. They were destroyed bythe Lord in His army in the army
of Judah carried off a vastamount of plunder. While they
were in de rar. They attackedall the towns in that area, and
(11:40):
terror from the Lord came uponthe people there. As a result, a
vast amount of plunder was takenfrom these towns too. They also
attacked the camps of herdsmenand captured many sheep, goats
and camels before finallyreturning to Jerusalem.
Second Chronicles chapter 15.Then the Spirit of God came upon
(12:01):
Azariah, son of Oded and he wentout to meet King ASA as he was
returning from the battle.Listen to me, Asa, he shouted,
listen, all you people of Judahand Benjamin, the Lord will stay
with you as long as you staywith him. Whenever you seek Him,
you will find him, but if youabandon Him, He will abandon
you. For a long time Israel waswithout the true God without a
(12:25):
priest to teach them and withoutthe law to instruct them. But
whenever they were in trouble inturn to the Lord the God of
Israel and sought him out, theyfound him. During those dark
times, it was not safe to travelproblems troubled the people of
every land, nation foughtagainst nation and city against
city, for God was troubling themwith every kind of problem. But
(12:48):
as for you, be strong andcourageous for your work will be
rewarded. When ASA heard thismessage from Azariah, the
prophet, he took courage andremoved all the detestable idols
from the land of Judah andBenjamin and in the towns he had
captured in the hill country ofEphram, and he repaired the
altar of the Lord which stood infront of the entry room of the
(13:08):
Lord's temple. Then ASA calledtogether all the people of Judah
and Benjamin along with thepeople of Ephram, Manasseh and
Simeon, who had settled amongthem, for many from Israel had
moved to Judah during aces reignwhen they saw that the Lord his
God was with him. The peoplegathered at Jerusalem in late
spring during the 15th year ofACEs rain. On that day, they
(13:30):
sacrificed to the Lord 700cattle and 7000 sheep and goats
from the plunder they had takenin the battle. Then they entered
into a covenant to seek the Lordthe God of their ancestors with
all their heart and soul. Theyagreed that anyone who refuse to
seek the Lord the God of Israelwould be put to death, whether
young or old man or woman, theyshouted out their oath of
(13:53):
loyalty to the Lord withtrumpets blaring and ram's horn
sounding. All in Judah werehappy about this covenant, for
they had entered into it withall their heart. They earnestly
sought after God and they foundhim and the Lord gave them rest
from their enemies on everyside. King ASA even deposed his
grandmother may occur from herposition as queen mother because
(14:15):
she had made an obscene Asherahpole. He cut down her obscene
pole broke it up and burned itin the Kidron Valley. Although
the pagan shrines were notremoved from Israel, as his
heart remained completelyfaithful throughout his life, he
brought into the temple of God,the silver and gold and the
various items that he and hisfather had dedicated. So there
(14:36):
was no more war until the 35thyear of Asa's reign.
Well, let's talk for a secondabout Second Chronicles chapter
11. That King Rehoboam was kindof a mixed bag. There were times
where he followed the Lord intimes where he turned his back
on God. and in chapter 11,verses 16 and 17. We read some
(14:56):
very important words. Here theyare Those from every tribe of
Israel who set their hearts onseeking the Lord, the God of
Israel, follow the Levites toJerusalem to offer sacrifices to
the Lord, the God of theirancestors. They strengthened the
kingdom of Judah, and supportedRehoboam, son of Solomon three
years following the ways ofDavid Solomon during this time.
(15:21):
and then when we jump over tochapter 12, we find out that
Rehoboam reigned for 17 years. But those three years we just
talked about, were his best, because he and the people sought
the Lord and follow the examplesof David and Solomon. Beloved,
when things are not going well, for us, it's a really good idea
to take a spiritual inventory. How is our relationship with
(15:44):
God? Are we seeking the Lord? Isthere unconfessed sin in our
life? Are we spending time withHim in prayer and in the word,
of course, being right with Godis no guarantee that life will
be a bed of roses because welive in a fallen world. But
sometimes our loving HeavenlyFather uses difficulties and
hardships to get our attention. If we're straying off of the
(16:08):
path. Yes, we are secure inGod's grace because of the shed
blood of Christ. He paid theprice for all of our sins if
we'd been born again, I'm notsaying that we're in danger of
losing our salvation if we havea time of rebellion, but God
loves us too much to not correctus if we need it. If you want to
(16:28):
have God's blessing, the placeyou want to be is in harmony
with Him, seeking to know himbetter each and every day. Well,
what do you think? Do you have acomment or a question? Contact
