Chris Kresser Shares Importance of Health Coaching During Interview with Jesse Cannone: Using a health coach takes a more proactive, preventative, and affordable approach to improving your health and wellness than learning alone. As Chris Kresser explains during his recent interview with Jesse Cannone, “Information is not enough to change behavior.” Most people know what they should be doing, Chris explains. They know they should get seven to eight hours of sleep per night, eat healthy, remain physically active, quit smoking, etc. Yet the latest CDC statistics show only 6% of U.S. adults engage in all five key healthy habits. Successful health coaches help their clients tap into their own motivations for change and develop their own strategies for change. When health coaches train people to take responsibility for their own lives in this way, they become empowered to make successful health behavior changes more likely to last over the long term. Jesse adds that his own experience as a health coach taught him that we all have unique behavior patterns. Knowing these subtle yet significant differences can improve our personal approach to better health. “The real key to successful change, and coaching,” Jesse says, “is being aware of that and having tools to identify the differences from Person A to Person B and then altering your approach.” A health coach who understands these differences and uses tools like the Myers-Briggs Personality Test or another personality profile quiz can help them tailor their interactions and recommendations for a greater chance of success. Chris agrees, saying, “That’s yet another reason to focus more on supporting a client in developing their own strategies for change, because that then guarantees that whatever strategies the client comes up with are most likely to work... because ultimately, they are the experts in their own life.” About Chris Kresser, M.S., L.Ac.: Chris is the CEO of Kresser Institute and the co-director of the California Center for Functional Medicine. He’s also the creator of ChrisKresser.com and is the New York Times best-selling author of The Paleo Cure and Unconventional Medicine.
