This Thanksgiving is so different for all of us. We can’t get across the border to see family and eat turkey, and many of you are staying home and staying safe as well. In the midst of it all, we have been feeling sad, lost, overwhelmed and exhausted, and a little ashamed for feeling that way. As Christians aren’t we supposed to just push through and “be thankful?” In this week’s podcast episode we talk about just that - how being thankful isn’t turning a blind eye to our pain and sadness, but knowing he is right there with us in the midst of it. It is ok to feel both - sad and thankful.
Jesus himself said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit,” so He was giving us permission to feel down. But scripture also reminds us that we don’t mourn as those who have no hope, and “the joy of the Lord is our strength”. The only way Chris and I know of, to resiliently find hope in the midst of a challenging 2020, is to develop our gratitude muscle. Gratitude leads to joy, which leads to strength. We hope you find this episode both honest and encouraging as we let you into our lives. You are not alone! Wishing you all a meaningful and memorable Thanksgiving!
