We found Rich Villodas and his church, New Life Fellowship, online the Sunday after the Capitol insurrection. We were confused and wrestling with the church’s response or lack thereof, to this evil act. Rich’s sermon that Sunday assured us that there is no way to separate justice and mercy from the gospel, and that becoming a Christian means we have to deal with our stuff, not just pass it off to the Lord and peace out.
Rich’s new book, “The Deeply Formed Life” gives us five transformative values to help us live rooted in these crazy times. “God is not interested in transforming some parts of us and leaving the rest untouched. He is not interested in separating our lives into sacred and not sacred categories, or reducing our faith to a personal decision that merely punches a ticket to heaven.” We’re not sure if we’ve ever read a book that married internal growth and the gospel so well.
