Episode four, part one, the story of Maheen.
Maheen is a brilliant and ambitious young woman. A student of Justice Studies and active in the student union of the University of Guelph Humber, Maheen is on a path of impact and change on a grand scale.
Although, Maheen's extraordinary future is fueled by a past of hardship.
In this episode, Maheen speaks on the early years of her journey. She opens by speaking on the excitement of moving to Canada from Dubai, and then her spiral into depression. Influenced by many factors such as: dealing with dual identity, the tribulations of an injured parent and death of a loved one, being surrounded peers suffering depression, and much more.
As she tells her story, Maheen gives us an invaluable perspective into the life of a teenaged immigrant girl who is suffering depression. Also, the perspective of one engaging in self-harm and suicidal ideation.
I'd like to again thank Maheen for sharing such a powerful and deeply emotional story.
I know I will not be the only one impressed by the strength and humor Maheen carried throughout the episode.
