Cada vez que miramos un mapa de la península ibérica, lo que vemos es una fiel representación a escala de una superficie de algo más de 580.000 km cuadrados. Que se convierten en 10,53 millones de km cuadrados si lo que estamos mirando es un mapa de Europa. Subamos ahora la escala, y observemos un mapa mucho más grande, digamos que del Sistema Solar entero. Algo tan enorme que los km dejan de ser útiles para medir su superficie, aunque si nos empeñamos mucho podemos calcular que es de más de seis trillones de km cuadrados.
Y ahora, gracias al Telescopio Espacial James Webb, acabamos de conocer el que es, hasta ahora, el mayor mapa jamás creado por el hombre, uno que abarca casi 13.500 millones de años luz (a 'solo' 200 millones de años luz del Big Bang) y que contiene cerca de 800.000 galaxias.
