tuned after the story for fullactor bios and some news about
the future of metus media.Without further ado, here's our
story.
How does your garden grow byHeather Santo. I slicked back my

(01:20):
hair and flash a dazzling smile.Check again please. I tell the
young woman at the front door. She checks her screen for the
10th time. I'm sorry, there'sstill no one by the name Jasper
crane here. honest mistake, Iassure her. Claudia gave me a
verbal invite at theWorthington's charity event last

(01:41):
week. Maybe she forgot to tellyou. I amp up the smile even
more and inch my way across thethreshold. I'm sorry she repeats
but I wave a dismissive hand. There she is now I say and call
out to Claudia. My dear. Thereseems to be some mix up. Claudia

(02:01):
saunters over a black dressfitting like a second skin on
her curvaceous body. Faintrecognition registers our face.
How do I know you? We met at theWorthington's last week. I
slipped my arm around hershoulders. Remember I told you I
wouldn't miss your opening forthe world. She squinted me

(02:22):
through thick black frames. Nextyears 2035 models smart glasses
by the look of them and tosses amass of lime green hair over one
shoulder. Why don't you show mearound? I suggest it's okay
mossy she tells the frazzledgirl of the door. I'll show she

(02:43):
falters and I flashed a smilebright enough to light the city.
Jasper crane I offer?
Yes, I'll show Mr. Crane aroundfrom here. Thank you.
We walk into the dimly litentrance of the gallery aptly
dubbed artsy fartsy surroundedby the city's elite
Jasper. We definitely did notmeet at the Worthington's last

(03:05):
week, or anywhere before forthat matter. Yours is a smile I
will not forget
why I'm insulted. So easilyforgotten by a woman as
beautiful as yourself. I'm
sure you have a legion ofbeautiful women at your beck and
call. You have however, piquedmy curiosity.

(03:27):
She says taking my elbow. I'lltake it. I navigate the crowd. A
large group is gathered in frontof the gardenia garden. The
Knights main attraction andnamesake of the exhibit opening.
Claudia is responsible forcreating set exhibit as well as
part owner of artsy fartsy it'sbreathtaking. I don't remember

(03:51):
real flowers but I've heard thisemulations pale in comparison to
the real thing. How did you doit? Claudia shakes her head
sadly.
This is one of the firstsubjects I captured with
environmental camera technology.I have a friend a few hours
north with a pretty house in thecountry. I sprinkled micro

(04:12):
lenses in her garden to capturethe individual images. And that
was surround vision displayedited each from 2d into this
life sized 3d display.
Fascinating. Out of those work.I motion of the projectors on
the wall.
They emit an invisible fog, allowing me to adjust focal

(04:33):
plane and depth of field andproject the images into space.
How soon after you photographthe garden did the freak pod
fungus hit the US?
Less than six weeks.
I walk into the exhibit.Immediately enveloped in glossy
green leaves and soft whiteblossoms. It's almost as

(04:54):
beautiful as the photographer.
Okay, Jasper. Enough chitchat?Who are you on? What are you
doing at my exhibit opening,
I remove my arm from hershoulders and raise both hands
and defeat. You got me, I sayand pull an old photograph from
inside my tux jacket. It's froma now obsolete instant camera.

(05:15):
The muted colors of the imageare bordered in white paling in
comparison to the vibrancy ofguarding your garden. I hand it
to Claudia.
How did you get this?
The photo depicts a young womandressed in a simple white t
shirt, knees drawn up to herchest with a single gardenia
tucked behind one ear. Gillianis my older sister. I say. I can

(05:39):
see the realization slide intoplace. Although Jillian's
features are softer, like theflower in her hair, the family
resemblance is undeniable.
We drifted apart. Both sofocused on our careers. Claudia
whispers me with photography andher with science. She
looks up at me.

(05:59):
There isn't a day that goes bythat I don't think of her.
She's in a coma. I say andGloria grips my wrist daily. has
been for almost a year whathappens? I bought a business
card for my tux jacket. Thefront of it reads yours Greek
food delivery service. cloudierrips it from my fingers. Meet me

(06:24):
tomorrow. at this address. Fiveo'clock sharp. I'll explain
everything. I turned to leaveClaudia to her adoring fans. And
as I walk away she calls outJasper. I glance over my
shoulder.
This is the best photograph I'veever taken, she says
holds the instant image to herheart. Yours is a hole in the

(06:49):
wall on the north side. The fooddelivery gigs started out as a
front from Aleyda scheme butmuch to my surprise it quickly
grew into a profitable business. The credit goes to Xander my
chef and a former Army Ranger. What's cookin? I yell as I enter
gear yours. I launch myself ontoa bar stool and prop my feet up

(07:10):
on the counter. Xander amountain of a man with a
screamin Eagle haircut is busyin the grill. Same thing that's
cooking every day. He growlsSandra's famous gyros my man go
three, then ratty haired andblue spectacles. The antithesis
of Xander good falls from hisspot at Central Command. He's a

(07:32):
drone pilot and one hell of ahacker was six screens hooked up
to a network of computers, noneof which I understand. It
probably rivals anything set upat the CIA or delivery drone,
which cost me a nice chunk ofchange sits on the table next to
Central Command. We nicknamedhim Hermes. Did you have Chow
yet? Xander asks, throwing a guyrow in front of me. His apron

(07:56):
says kitchen bitch across thechest. No, I haven't. And I take
a huge bite. You're welcome. hegrumbles turning back to the
grill. So where's thisphotographer chick? Guthrie asks
as Claudia saunters through thedoor
right here,
she says flipping her lime greenponytail with sensuous grace.
Xander and Guthrie stare, mouthsagape order up. I call and slam

(08:22):
my hand down on the kitchenservice Bell. Conrad explodes
out of the stockroom long limbsTangling together like yarn. I'm
here I'm coming. I've got it. Heyells and Paul's face first in
front of Claudia's red highheeled pumps. The kitchen erupts
into laughter and I help Conradto his feet easier years newest

(08:43):
hire a struggling ventriloquistwho walked in one day and asked
if we were hiring. We weren'tbut I gave him a job on the
spot. The guy although a bithigh strung, is extremely
likable and eager to please.Plus his dummy Pierre gives
Xander the creeps.
Well guys, something smellsdelicious.

(09:04):
After I introduced thephotographer to Xander Guthrie
and Conrad, we get down tobusiness. Not the guy real
business, the real business. Butwe do eat Kairos as we talk, the
risk of family Claudia exclaimsincredulous.
How did you learn get involvedwith the mafia?
Indirectly as it turns out, Iexplain her colleague, some guy

(09:29):
drowning in gambling debt wasdeveloping mind control
technology. One of those mainbruisers isn't really this guy
makes Xander look like a kittenbroke into the complex where she
worked. plan to steal the guy'stech to make up for the debt and
then break the guy's legs forgood measure. stumbled into
Joe's lab by mistake. I pause totake a deep breath. what Joe was

(09:50):
working on was more valuable tothe mafia than mind control. And
what was that? Flowers resistantto the freak pod fungus? Top
Secret stuff. Her first successwas with gardenias Claudia
stares at me, speechless. Theboss big Polly thought they

(10:10):
could make a mint selling realflowers, weddings,
anniversaries, funerals. You notbelieve what people were willing
to pay for flowers on the blackmarket. So they went in put my
sister didn't give up herflowers without a fight.
Reserves guy put her in a comaand she's been at St. Margaret's
ICU sense. What can I do tohelp? Claudia asks without

(10:31):
hesitation later that night oneof rizos men places his weekly
delivery order like clockworkXander prepares the Kairos
Conrad boxes everything up andGuthrie fires up the drone.
Claudia pops open her veryexpensive laptop and we wait.
Watching the drones feed whenone of the central command
screens

(10:51):
holy cow.
Claudia says when she spotsRizzo is bruiser the front door
of the delivery location.Ironically, the mob works out of
a kitchen design store a fewblocks south of here he is told
you he was big. I say as thebehemoth takes the box of food
from the drone. Guthrie pilotsthe drone back home and we
switch views to cloudy hislaptop. The microlens is

(11:14):
attached to the food box whichon and she starts capturing
images and rapid fire speed.Photos of 12 wiseguys plus big
Polly making a baker's dozen popup in succession. We also get a
complete layout of the room. There's a door in the back that
immediately catches Guthrie'sinterest. Something important
behind there, he says pointingvoice and face recognition on

(11:37):
the outside. If you ain't bigPolly or one of us could pose
you ain't getting in there. Ilook at Claudia. Can you be back
next week, same time. We'regonna get Jill's flowers back.
The next Saturday, we gatherback at years. Xander works

(11:57):
furiously at the grill preparingthe resume family's weekly
order. There's a tub of hissecret guiro sauce next to the
grill. The recipe kept secreteven from me. Except this week,
I've added my own secret littleingredient. Good old Georgia
homeboys enough to knock outeven the largest of results
clan. Order Up. Xander yellshitting the kitchen service

(12:19):
Bell. Conrad boxes everything upfor delivery and Guthrie fires
up the drone wants to be big boybruiser takes the box from
Hermes. Claudia pulls anxiouslyat her lime green braids. Are
you sure
this is going to work? Nope.
I say Guthrie has loaded thephoto software onto one of
Central Command screens. Whilehe brings Hermes back to he is

(12:42):
he simultaneously switches onClaudia's micro lenses, again,
attached to the delivery box andcaptures images of rizos men big
Polly included devouring XanderSlimer Skyros. The secret sauce
drips through their fingerssplattering on the table covered
with playing cards. We wait.Less than an hour later all 13

(13:04):
men are down for the count. That's our cue. All right,
everyone loaded into van drive afew blocks over Guthrie riding
shotgun to the kitchen designstore. The old panel van 2018
model but still more reliablethan many of my ex girlfriends
rattles as if in anticipation.Pull in here. Claudia exclaims

(13:26):
and I slide the van into a sidealley. Everyone out I say and
look at Conrad in the rearviewmirror. Are you ready? Yes. He
squeaks and opens the back door.Luckily for us, Rousseau's men
didn't lock the door. Aftergrabbing the guy rose from the
drone. We slipped through thedarkness and into the store. The

(13:47):
room reeks of cigar smoke andguiro sauce. All 13 men are
slumped in various positionsaround the car table. Big barley
at the head. I pet his flabbycheek as we walked by. How's the
food big barley? He snorts inresponse and turns his head the
other way. snoring like abuzzsaw Conrad Harry. Conrad

(14:09):
approaches the back door. He'sbeen practicing for this moment
all week. Studying online videosof big Polly's last court
deposition. Hey, it's me bigboy. He says mimicking the mafia
bosses voice perfectly. A lot onthe voice recognition screen
blinks green Xander lookingtotally creeped out. Olds up

(14:30):
here to the facial recognitionscanner. Guthrie 3d printed a
perfect replica of the bulliesface earlier in the week and
swapped it out for the one onConrad's dummy. Pierre looked
decidedly more ugly for theeffort. Another green light
flashes in the back door lockclicks open. Before anyone can
say anything. I push through andwalk into an illegal grow

(14:53):
operation of a most unusualkind. Instead of kitchen design
supplies the brightly lit roomwas filled with roses, peonies,
lilies, tulips and last but notleast, guarding Yes. Oh, my God.
All right, box everything up andloaded in the van. The following

(15:17):
Monday the news headlinespuzzled over the mysterious
return of freak odd resistantflowers to the lab where they
were originally stolen from. Thestory runs tandem with reports
of the entire Rizzo mob familybeing hospitalized for ingesting
large amounts of a date rapedrug. In light of these events,
I decided to permanently closeyields for business. While

(15:37):
Xander Guthrie and Conrad moveeverything from the kitchen into
a storage locker on the eastside. I drive van to artsy
fartsy and pick up Claudia. Shehas a green haired vision and a
houndstooth print pantsuit. Andher hands she holds a tiny
potted gardenia ready, task.

(16:00):
So I'll never be
we sit in silence as I navigatethrough midday downtown traffic.
St. Margaret's is at the heartof the city surrounded by
simulated flower gardens.Hopefully soon, they'll be
filled with real flowers. Hello,Jasper. A pretty nurse says to
me when we enter the ICU.Haven't seen you in a while.
Yeah, sorry. I flashed adazzling smile. This is Claudia,

(16:24):
a friend of Julian's. Uh huh.She says and walks away briskly.
Emotional for her to enterJulian's room. My older sister's
like a small child of to an IVunder a thin blanket.
Hi, Jill.

window blinds, places thegardenia next to the hospital
