SPEAKER_00 (00:01):
You're listening to Metal Gear Mondays, the greatest
Metal Gear podcast ever.
I don't agree with

SPEAKER_03 (00:19):
you.
How

SPEAKER_01 (00:22):
did you patch into my radio frequency?
Stinks in here.
Bad.

SPEAKER_04 (00:48):
silence through the night what a thrill i'm
searching in a melting

SPEAKER_01 (01:18):
Ladies, gearsmen, babies, and gentle-thems.
I am James Reichmuth hostingthis week's episode of Metal
Gear Mondays, the podcast thatreviews all things Kojima and
Metal Gear inpseudo-chronological order,
backwards, forwards, left,right, up, down.
And this week, I'm joined earlyin the morning by Liliana

(01:40):
Wright.

SPEAKER_03 (01:41):
It's

SPEAKER_01 (01:41):
me.

SPEAKER_03 (01:41):
It's me.
It's me.
Let's go, baby.
If you're a Patreon viewer, youcan see my gnarly fucking bruise
on my arm and this one, too.
Is that new?
Pretty relatively.
So

SPEAKER_02 (01:55):
fun fact.

SPEAKER_03 (02:22):
get your blood drawn regularly, or semi-regularly, is
that you have to get your blooddrawn.
I don't know if you knew that,but...
The

SPEAKER_01 (02:31):
thing about getting your blood drawn is you gotta
get your blood drawn.

SPEAKER_03 (02:34):
You can tell it's a tree by the way that it is.
So, the thing that I've alwaysbeen told about whenever I would
have to get my blood drawn isthat I've got good veins for
getting, but they are squirrely.
They like to dance around.
And so...

SPEAKER_02 (02:52):
Normal case of squirrely vein.

SPEAKER_03 (02:59):
So when I went to the doctor to do my like my it
was my six month checkup, theywent into this arm.
could like finally found one butthe angle they put it in at blew
the vein oh um and so that'swhat that is and then they said

(03:20):
okay let's try this arm and thenthey did it again over here on
the on the right terrible um andso they don't hurt at all i
literally like only discoveredthem like maybe five days after
the appointment in the showerbecause they don't hurt to the
touch at all they just they'rejust like really like gnarly to
look at um but they literallyhad to send me to the lab that

(03:44):
processes the blood the bloodresults because the lab had
stuff there that could help findthe vein easier so they didn't
even get my blood enough bloodfrom me at my appointment they
had to send me to the lab forthem to draw my blood and then
they were able to get so theywound up like sticking me like
here next to this less badbruise

SPEAKER_01 (04:09):
I find that the arm veins are tougher.
I also struggle.
I have squirrely veins as well.
They usually have to go in myhand to get my blood, but they
don't believe me when I tellthem that.

SPEAKER_02 (04:27):
I need to put those on some hot key buttons so I can
be quicker

SPEAKER_01 (04:30):
to the front.
Ready to go.

SPEAKER_03 (04:34):
Yeah, they did stick my hand once.
I hate because it's like theskin is so thin and it's so
uncomfortable, but they did goin thicker skin you ever think
about that lily i know i'm transand they talk about me online a
lot so i don't know i don't knowif i can develop thicker skin i
have to be mad all the timeapparently

SPEAKER_06 (04:52):
gotcha

SPEAKER_03 (04:53):
anyway that's me i'm lily hi

SPEAKER_02 (04:59):
um nice well cool uh i am wait wait wait wait wait
yeah

SPEAKER_01 (05:06):
we have another i mean i'm introducing oh yeah we
have another i'm dropping theball in my head i don't have to
i don't have to wait i don'thave to wait for james to let
the door open someone who needsno introduction yeah

SPEAKER_02 (05:24):
i'm punchy on the uh downboard this morning because
it's earlier than we normallyNormally do.

SPEAKER_01 (05:30):
Twelve hours earlier.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (05:33):
Yeah.
My daughter went to school aboutan hour and a half ago.
I've been sitting aroundwatching YouTube and drinking
coffee.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (05:42):
What's normal wake up time in dad life these days?

SPEAKER_02 (05:47):
Five.
We talk in six.
Yeah.
Lately, five thirty.
Five thirty.
Mostly because.
So I don't start work until 10,which is lovely.
But it means I get off a littlelater, which means.
that in the evenings Kristen ispretty much stuck with the baby
until bedtime and then I willelect to come in and handle the

(06:09):
wind down but because she getsstuck with the baby at night and
because Kristen goes to workearly like 8 she just has no
time so I have woken up earlierto take care of the baby so she
can like go for a run in themorning that's teamwork yeah so
but it's exhausting because yourboy likes to stay up a little
too late um and yeah so here iam uh and yeah it's been good

(06:36):
for again for transparency werecorded part one of delta last
night with our amazing guestwe'll go ahead and get you guys
pumped for the next four days ofwaiting uh but we recorded with
k ross from the bonfire sidechat watch out for fireballs uh
uh fame duck feed dot tv yeahwonderful wonderful folks um but

(07:00):
yeah I think at this point wehave irritated Gaiden VXL circa
2017 quote I love the parts whenthey talked about Metal Gear but
I just hated when they weretalking about something that was
not the game for far too longwe're finally

SPEAKER_03 (07:12):
talking about the game something that is the game

SPEAKER_02 (07:14):
yeah let's get

SPEAKER_03 (07:15):
into the game part

SPEAKER_01 (07:16):
the game

SPEAKER_02 (07:18):
James just for the folks at home you've never
beaten Metal Gear Solid

SPEAKER_01 (07:21):
3 right never beaten Metal Gear Solid 3 I remember
less about it than I thought Idid which has been a a treat so
far.
I'm having a blast.
I forgot how much I love ColdWar era spy shit.
That's great.
I also forgot how much I missDavid Hayter's voice.

(07:44):
Part of me is like, man, I feellike...
Somebody at Sega heard DavidHader and went to the Sonic
American actor and was like, yougot to do this.
You got to go fast.
But you got to go fast as Snake.
And I really respect that.

(08:04):
I like that.
I'm blue today in honor ofSonic.
He died for our sins.

SPEAKER_02 (08:13):
Shout out to Discord user PregnantSonic.

SPEAKER_03 (08:18):
Our hedgehog who art in heaven, Sonic be thy name.

SPEAKER_02 (08:23):
Because in part one, as we do sort of with most first
episodes of seasons, we go intolike a little bit of development
history, a little bit of generalrealities um we're gonna not
talk about that stuff reallythis is like strictly release
day quick little hour of the thegang riffing on what it was like

(08:47):
to crack open the blister packfor the first time that's
beautiful i

SPEAKER_03 (08:58):
really like the gang

SPEAKER_02 (09:01):
placement yeah yeah yeah uh

SPEAKER_03 (09:02):
I did want to mention one thing that we didn't
talk about.
Virtuous, who is the companythat remade Delta, did Delta,
was the same Virtuous that justdid the Elder Scrolls IV

(09:23):
Oblivion

SPEAKER_02 (09:23):
remake.
That

SPEAKER_03 (09:24):
explains

SPEAKER_02 (09:25):
the performance

SPEAKER_03 (09:25):
issue.
Virtual?
Yeah.
That's the same company.
They've done a lot of stuff, butbut that was their most recent
thing.
They

SPEAKER_01 (09:35):
crushed

SPEAKER_03 (09:35):
the

SPEAKER_01 (09:35):
Oblivion remake.
I'll give them that.
I don't know.
I feel like I don't rememberplaying the original ones.
I don't know if they crushedthis remake.

SPEAKER_02 (09:43):
They're just support studio.
The majority of it was internalKonami people.

SPEAKER_01 (09:49):
That's good.
That's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_02 (09:52):
We're going to talk about it on the part one more,
but quite a lot of KojimaProductions slash Konami folks
from past Metal Gears

SPEAKER_01 (10:04):
I was thinking about that and I feel like I feel like
we addressed this really wellduring the Death Stranding
season but it takes a village tomake a video game and given how
much of the core DNA is still atKonami I feel like we can all
lighten up a little bit andenjoy ourselves

SPEAKER_02 (10:24):
I definitely took the pants off when I booted this
fucker up

SPEAKER_01 (10:27):
absolutely

SPEAKER_02 (10:29):
you got to

SPEAKER_01 (10:31):
only way to play is pantsless

SPEAKER_02 (10:32):
Yeah,

SPEAKER_01 (10:33):
yeah,

SPEAKER_02 (10:34):
yeah, yeah.
So just because we're probablygoing to get into how Lily and I
played kind of more granularlyin the part one, I'm curious to
hear from you, James, whatsettings did you pick?
What filters are you using?
What sort of experience are yousetting up for yourself?
Are you just in a little 12-inchmonitor in the back of a short

(10:55):
bus?
Are you hanging out downstairswith a movie theater-sized
screen?
Are you playing on your iPhonethe way God intended?

SPEAKER_01 (11:01):
I've got a nice uh it's a little it's a you know 27
inch uh hdr monitor uh that i'mrocking uh i think it's an acer
maybe i'm not sure i don't knowthe brand i don't want

SPEAKER_02 (11:16):
to i hardly know her

SPEAKER_01 (11:17):
that's right uh i'm doing like the full remake
settings i turned on the legacyfilter for a second and was like
you know what i don't need thisi wasn't there

SPEAKER_02 (11:26):
okay

SPEAKER_01 (11:27):
so i'm going straight i'm going straight new
nice nice yeah uh love that it'slike no this isn't for me
immediately it really was i waslike i was looking at some of
them colors and i was like iappreciate who this is for it's
not it's not for me i do love iwill say my favorite thing so
far is the dramatic shift fromlike the new uh like filters and

(11:53):
like just high fidelity cutscenes to the fucking oldest
shit png backgrounds

SPEAKER_03 (12:00):
oh yeah we we touched on this in part one too
but like the oldest shit pngbackgrounds that they did that
they expanded to full hdresolution instead of keeping it
four three which i think isfucking hilarious

SPEAKER_02 (12:14):
people are gonna have pitchforks how dare there
be black bars on my screenanyway that's right the number
of people that even bitch aboutlike letterboxing on the steam
deck is like insane to me it'slike what they're like no 1280
by 720 are you kidding 1280 by800.
I need my 80 pixels, goddammit.

SPEAKER_01 (12:38):
They sound like the fucking Heineken, Pabst, Blue,
Ribbon.

SPEAKER_03 (12:42):
Yeah.
Can I...
You saying Pabst, Blue, Ribbon.
16x9, 16x10.

SPEAKER_00 (12:54):
Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03 (12:57):
I need to go off on an unrelated tangent.
Are we talking about Campbell's?
Yeah, I need to talk aboutCampbell's.
I need to find the pressrelease.
Are we talking about weapons?
No.
I sent it to Cole.
That's why I'm looking up Cole'stext that I sent.

(13:17):
Campbell's Chunky Soup and PabstBlue Ribbon invite fans to crack
open a warm one with a I got twosoups.

SPEAKER_01 (13:54):
I can picture Don Draper with the Venn.
He's like the Venn diagram ofCampbell's lovers and Pabst Blue
Ribbon's lovers.
It's a fucking circle, guys.
Like we got a slam dunk on ourhands.

SPEAKER_03 (14:06):
I mean, I have eaten Campbell's chunky soup and I
have drank Pabst Blue Ribbon.
So quite frankly, I'm the targetaudience

SPEAKER_01 (14:12):
for this.
Some madman came in and waslike, watch this.
And he poured a can of PabstBlue Ribbon into his bowl of
soup.
And he was like, we got hit onour hands.

SPEAKER_03 (14:23):
There was a period of time where where Cole
Duncan's wife, Chanel, insistedthat it was easier to shotgun a
can of soup than it was a whitecloth.
Oh,

SPEAKER_02 (14:33):
no.

SPEAKER_03 (14:34):
And we have video evidence of that being false,
but now I feel like it's time totry again.

SPEAKER_01 (14:38):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (14:40):
I agree.
I agree.
All right.

SPEAKER_01 (14:43):
No time like the present.

SPEAKER_03 (14:45):
That soup you like

SPEAKER_02 (14:46):
is

SPEAKER_03 (14:47):
going back into style.
Anyway, I'm so sorry to do that, but I had like a brain blast,
like a Jimmy Neutron like Iwon't be able to move on until I
talk about this on a on a on amedium that I'm I'm a part of so
I yeah

SPEAKER_02 (15:03):
I I appreciate that in the last five minutes we've
had multiple Lynch and liquidcombo discussions so liquid it
all ties back you know Lynch PTliquid snake here we are

SPEAKER_01 (15:23):
can I say can I say one dialogue related thing that
I just found very hit us withall of

SPEAKER_02 (15:29):
it since you're not gonna be on part one just like
yeah

SPEAKER_01 (15:32):
yeah I was I was I'm not on part one I was at a an
event supporting my partner theyopened a new carnival in st.
Louis and she was covering itfor their social media and I
went and I learned that I getmotion sick so shout out to me

(15:53):
shout out to my ton me um therewould know i uh i was like i was
i just realized like so likekojima i like that he's so on
theme i think throughout hiscareer when they said spirit and
body are two sides of the samecoin i was like the hankah was
around us all like the seedswere planted i like that i like

(16:17):
that i'm fucking here for it somuch bullshit what uh are you
both playing on the uh uh legacyfilters and whatnot?
I'm

SPEAKER_03 (16:28):
doing all new X-Men.
I'm doing new controls, newfilters, everything like that.
Oh, weird.
Even the blue thing that we

SPEAKER_02 (16:37):
were talking about in

SPEAKER_03 (16:38):
part one?
You didn't change it after bluemenace?
I'm just sticking with...
I'm going to play through itagain because, again, I think
they mentioned that because ofthe changes to the controls,
it's like you can get through itpretty quickly, so I want to
play through it again with allthe legacy stuff and so I'm just
playing it as developed rightnow and so I'm like I'm like the

(16:59):
well me and James are like thecontrol and Alessio's playing
like three different versions onlike 16 screens yeah typing like
typing like with like keyboardslike this enhanced his eyes are
in the back of his head yeah

SPEAKER_02 (17:11):
somehow every 16 all 16 screens are just big boss
dying going like slightlydifferent pitches and volumes uh
uh yeah so i guess uh i guess uhthe only thing i'm really doing
so i'm doing new controls and iam doing fidelity mode so the

(17:33):
1440p 30 frames a second umpartially because of the digital
foundry video that i watchedwhere it's like the unlocked
kind of 60 frames thing fuckingthrottles insanely between like
35 and 60 frames like non-stopat random and I was like you

(17:54):
know what the original game is30 frames on the PS2 I'm just
gonna fucking put it at eventhough it's a locked 30 it's
like the frame pacing is notgreat but at least it's a locked
30 so I was like you know whatI'll take consistency over like
weird hiccups so I am playing onthat mode I do think it actually
looks better I did some like A Btesting and I do think it looks

(18:16):
a little bit better but I dohave the legacy filter turned on
the visual filter filter I justswitched it on when it gave me
the prompt at the beginning Iwas like oh yeah like when you
see the little preview I waslike oh that looked pretty good
like I'm just gonna do that Idid switch it off once you're in
the game you can open the menuand it'll show you what it's

(18:38):
gonna look like kind of withwhat you're doing and I noticed
that the default just looks sofucking blue in the shadows and
the blacks and I'm like I don'tknow dog so like I just flipped
it back to legacy I was like, this looks better to me.
The other, the other version, like, yeah, legacy might be a
little green skewing, but Imean, you're in the fucking

(19:01):
jungle.
So, um, but I just, to my eye,the default looks a little cool.
Um, yeah.
And I was just like, yeah, butanyway, yeah, that's pretty much
it.
Other than that, I'm, I'm doingnew controls.
Uh, uh, I just, yeah, I want tosee what, what they wanted.
Yeah.
The new controls feel great.

(19:22):
Yeah.
It's been good.
I, particularly I like the rollinto

SPEAKER_06 (19:28):
prone

SPEAKER_02 (19:29):
kind of fluidity also like the as you're walking
into prone kind of animationslook really cool

SPEAKER_03 (19:39):
yeah I'm still just like completely fascinated by
there being a crouch walk quitefrankly

SPEAKER_01 (19:44):
yeah the crouch walk step that's a very welcome
addition I really like I feellike in Death Stranding 2 which
we just played, you kind of hadto, I always felt like I kind of
had to go out of my way to playit sneaky because I was like so
OP.
And I really forgot how much Ienjoy like a game where sneaking

(20:07):
is encouraged.
You're a little bit morefragile.
It's narratively, but not thatfragile.
It's narratively like reinforcedthat you should be sneaking,
which I also really like.
I think when I first startedplaying, I took it too seriously
how much I should be sneaking.
And so I wasn't knocking peopleout or drinking anyone.

(20:30):
And I just kept getting caughtand reloading.
And I was like, wait.
I was like, no, I can knockthese people out.
I'm good.

SPEAKER_03 (20:38):
It behooves you to do

SPEAKER_01 (20:40):
that.
It does.
When you pick people up and theyfucking shoot out ammo.
Love that.
That

SPEAKER_05 (20:49):
is

SPEAKER_02 (20:49):
a good one.
I don't know if I can pull myDeath Stranding sneak pass
literally everybody get thething and leave as well in this.
Certainly.
You just don't have as muchspace to work with.
Not as much space.

SPEAKER_03 (21:07):
It's not as much space and also the guards have
the same like cone of vision asthe enemies in Death Stranding 2
where it's just like they'll seeyou from across the map.

SPEAKER_02 (21:18):
They got good vision.
Yeah it is not this is not MGS 1and 2 territory.

SPEAKER_01 (21:23):
No they've got they've got good vision
insurance or some good programthrough the government that's
getting them high qualitycontent.
Is

SPEAKER_02 (21:31):
that fucking communist communist vision
coverage dude?
Everybody knows historicallycommunism everything's bad
except for the vision and dental

SPEAKER_03 (21:41):
comrades see far and chomp hard

SPEAKER_06 (21:43):
yeah

SPEAKER_02 (21:51):
nice yeah I think so James I'm curious in terms of
since this is your firstexperience like can you give us
like the like the word cloud oflike the first like your
emotions now that you're feelinglike how like i don't know
what's it like to be back in thesaddle of like old school kojima

(22:13):
with the fucking 20 minute longdocumentary interludes like how
are you how are you feeling

SPEAKER_01 (22:20):
i i big fan uh i really uh at first i was like oh
this is maybe not gonna be myspeed with how much exposition
there is and i was like you knowwhat no like fucking inject it
straight into my veins like iwant all of the cold war chewing
of the scenery um and won't getinto it too much but like just
the virtuous mission in generalwhen you fucking meet uh ocelot

(22:43):
i was like this is excellentlike you fucking proto higgs
monaghan like i see all thethreads you're doing kojima like
i get it i see what you lovethat's

SPEAKER_02 (22:53):
a good point i guess i never really thought about
that yeah yeah definitely likethat

SPEAKER_01 (22:57):
yeah well it isn't was i misremembering this in in
five it played by troy bakerright yeah yeah that's still
awesome yeah yeah so i was like

SPEAKER_02 (23:05):
oh he's a little

SPEAKER_01 (23:07):
oh yeah that's right that's right like it's all
connected uh but no like i lovethe background i love like how
fucking cagey like all ofleadership is um paramedic kills
me love her bless her littleheart uh the just the name
paramedic uh

SPEAKER_02 (23:29):
yeah the

SPEAKER_01 (23:29):
code any anytime david hater uh asks a question
i'm tickled he just sounds soperplexed it's it's it's It's
literally like they threw Snakeinto this plane, didn't tell him
anything, and he's just tryingto smoke his cigar and live his
life.

SPEAKER_03 (23:45):
Yeah.
Our original autistic boy.
Yeah.

UNKNOWN (23:50):
That's essentially what happens.
James, we're going to...
So there are three spoilers thatI'm going to censor in part one
because I'm dumb.
But I think in general, sincethis might be a lot of people's
first Metal Gear Solid, and wemight have a lot of people
coming to this show for the veryfirst time, I think...

SPEAKER_02 (24:08):
think we are going to try to keep like the game
spoilers yeah that makes sensenot necessarily to a minimum but
like we're gonna wait until likethe final few episodes before we
start to make like the big likeoh hey by the way this person is
this person yeah that personfrom this game 20 games down the
road or whatever just becausefor some of the folks that are

(24:31):
coming back to Delta it's likethere's a perfect opportunity
for us to talk about how it tiesback into MGS 5 which we hadn't
covered when we were playing thefirst season of mgs

SPEAKER_01 (24:41):
no and i will say with with no spoilers having
played five so extensively realtreat so far i'm just

SPEAKER_02 (24:47):
like wow

SPEAKER_01 (24:48):
everything's clicking in place for me

SPEAKER_02 (24:50):
yeah for sure so i am so it's fun uh chad our
discord mod who's going to be onthe mgs2 remaster season as the
like other fresh pup playingthat game um i specifically
asked i specifically asked him iwas like are you playing delta
and he was like no and I wasjust like perfect because like

(25:11):
you can

SPEAKER_03 (25:12):
recontextualize is everything if you play if you
play three first and it's likeit is one of those things where
it's just like it's a it's it'schronologically it's the first
game in the series obviously butit's like there's so much that
happens that contextualizesstuff that happens in the
earlier games because it takesplace in the past compared to

(25:33):
their future and it's like thereyou get a different vision of
Metal Gear Solid Metal GearSolid 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Peace
Walker all of them if you playyeah three first yeah it's
really it's really interesting

SPEAKER_02 (25:47):
well and that's why I'm glad we have James and Chad
because like Chad's gonna beplaying MGS 2 with no MGS 3
knowledge James is gonna beplaying MGS 2 with no MGS or MGS
3 with no MGS 2 knowledge soit's like this fun kind of like
I don't know it'll be fun tolike that is interesting ask you
guys the same question I'mexcited

SPEAKER_03 (26:05):
about that too that's cool I am I will in this,
I'm just, I'm going to say aname and it's not going to mean
anything right now.
If you have no idea what threeis or what's going on in three,
I am very interested in whatJames thinks about the Rykov
stuff.
Yes.

SPEAKER_02 (26:23):
I'm interested to hear what I think about the
Rykov

SPEAKER_03 (26:26):
stuff.
I am too.
Very, very interested in theRykov stuff in general.
Yeah.
It's going to

SPEAKER_02 (26:33):
be, it's going to be

SPEAKER_03 (26:34):
fun.

SPEAKER_01 (26:35):
Yeah.
I will say thematically, uh,Just one thing that I noticed
and I'm just really interestedin, because I think we've talked
on the podcast before about, youknow, obviously Kojima, very
influenced by...
you know, the Eastern view oflike nuclear armament, nuclear

(26:56):
war, the effect that that has onpeople.
And like, I think one of thevery first lines when you boot
the game up is, uh, kind of theinverse of that classic fallout
line.
That's like war never changes.
And it's like, no worse, worsewar.

SPEAKER_03 (27:12):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like war does not change.
Really funny compared to MetalGear Solid 4's intro, which I'll
just, I'll just spoil for peopleis war has changed.
yeah

SPEAKER_01 (27:25):
it's like there's great there's just a lot of
great uh uh I feel like symmetrythroughout this series um that
I'm excited to see kind of thefirst chronological and then how
that relates to everything elsethat came both before and after
it it's like

SPEAKER_03 (27:43):
poetry it rhymes it's

SPEAKER_01 (27:44):
yeah I was trying not to say that I was like don't
quote George Lucas don't do itit's gonna be really uh it's
gonna be really interesting to

SPEAKER_02 (27:52):
do the the four remaster.
I have played one.

(28:22):
But B, it's like...
And sorry, guys, I'm going toget political, quote unquote.
I'm just going to talk aboutfucking global history for two
seconds.

SPEAKER_03 (28:33):
Imagine going into this video game and being like,
I don't want to talk aboutpolitics.

SPEAKER_02 (28:39):
What the fuck are you talking about?
The first 10 minutes of the gameis literally global politics
from the 60s.
All about blindly

SPEAKER_03 (28:47):
following leaders.
One of the characters explicitlytalks about how the mission is
based on politics.
They literally just spell it outfor you as early as possible.
this is all about politics

SPEAKER_02 (28:58):
it'll be interesting because thinking like while you
guys are talking about war thewhole has never changed or war
has changed or whatever I wasthinking about it I'm like well
how has war changed and I thinkreally the only difference is
like right war was alwaysfucking profiteering essentially
the like blood blood coveredversion of gerrymandering right

(29:19):
it's like how do we takeproperty and redraw these lines
so that I get more and you getless and How do we use war to
make money off of dead youngpeople?
But I think the differencebetween MGS4 war and MGS3 war,
much like the difference between2025 war and, I don't know, 1930

(29:42):
or 1935 war, is that we are justway more transparent about the
profiteering part.
It is quite literally likejoining the military, I feel
like, is a career transition.
less a duty yes 100% joining themilitary also has its own

(30:03):
fucking factory assembly linewith its own checks and
milestones and all this shitperformance reviews and it's
like less about I don't know andmaybe we're just romanticizing
it but I think it's less aboutlike ideals and more about the

(30:24):
patriot It's bottom line.
We're in billionaire territoryin 2025.

SPEAKER_03 (30:30):
To kind of tie into that, and this is obviously
anecdotal, but I think there'ssomething to be said about it.
I know there are people outthere that are like, oh yeah,
America, let's defend ourcountry and stuff like that.
The vast, vast majority ofpeople that I know that either
are in or were in the militarydid it because they could make
money or they would pay forcollege.

SPEAKER_02 (30:51):
Paying for school and paying for insurance are the
two that I hear about.
I

SPEAKER_01 (30:57):
would actually say, yeah, I remember it, my high
school, it being a very bigthing that like everybody in my
grade level that signed up forthe military was doing it
explicitly for the college andthe potential of getting like a
cushy job afterwards.
And they were scared shitless oflike being like in actual war.
They're like, I don't want tosupport this, but like our

(31:19):
family has no money.
Like it's the only way out.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (31:25):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (31:25):
which is

SPEAKER_02 (31:26):
yeah that's essentially what we're
describing is extortion yesagain not trying to say
patriotism is bad uh nationalismis bad blindly

SPEAKER_01 (31:38):
following people for the sake of being a patriot is
right not great

SPEAKER_02 (31:43):
yeah i mean so and the reason why we bring all this
up is because this game is goingto be talking almost explicitly
about this shit it actually kindof has already started doing
that in the beginning of thegame um but i do think we're
going to see some like reallycool like

SPEAKER_06 (31:55):
it's

SPEAKER_02 (31:56):
like snake kind of represents uh the people who
care about the soldiers aspeople yeah uh the boss kind of
represents like i don't knowessentially putting your whole
self into a philosophy into away of thinking and then you've
got people like ocelot or likevulgan who are like beholden to
selfishness or they're beholdento the mission more than their

(32:19):
nation um and we even see ocelotkind of struggle with this like
in part one we'll talk about itbut he's very mission oriented
but at a certain point he in hisyouth you can tell in this game
that he's kind of still kind ofstuck in between like okay my
loyalties to the mission butalso these people are my
countrymen what the fuck are wedoing here you know what I mean

(32:40):
so it's like yeah all this stuffthat you may not remember is
intensely because it was 2004when this came out and if you
played it when it came out youwere more than likely a teenager
or a preteen I was 12 yeah Ithink yeah in 2004 I was 15 I
turned 15 two months before thisgame came out um and so yeah so

(33:05):
it's like we were we were all indifferent head spaces and so
it's like I don't I thinkrevisiting this as a 35 year old
man oh my god that's crazy uhyeah because I haven't turned 36
yet so it's like almostliterally been like 20 years
since yeah this game like interms

SPEAKER_03 (33:23):
of literally last year was was its 20-year
anniversary.
That's why everybody thoughtthat it was going to come out
last year in November because itwas the 20th anniversary of the
game.
It turns out, nope, summer 2025.
Not quite 21 years.

SPEAKER_02 (33:39):
Fun fact for the listeners, we actually were
planning on coming back as ashow had it come out on the
20-year anniversary.
Lily and I had been talkingabout pulling the trigger on
bringing the show back probablyabout a year before the show
actually came back.
um

SPEAKER_03 (33:55):
so yeah it was literally just like it was
literally like nuclearproliferation which had our
fingers on the button ready towaiting for it yeah yeah and we
were just like i swear to god ifthis game comes out it's like
the longer it got towards theend of the year the more we're
just like fuck please just delayit to next year just let it be
next year yeah

SPEAKER_02 (34:13):
well then they fucking delayed it to like right
after death stranding 2 and iwas like god damn it i wanted to
come back on a metal gear and idon't want to race to finish a
game like god damn it although

SPEAKER_03 (34:24):
admittedly I think that I think it worked out the
way we played Death Stranding Ifelt very comfortable with how I
played that game so that wasredemption as well for me

SPEAKER_02 (34:35):
yeah nice well yeah let's continue to discuss the
story as it continues I do wantto keep talking about sort of
first impression stuff and yeahI'm very excited to get into the
nuances of the game and hearJames's take because it's been a
long time since I've heard a newperspective

SPEAKER_01 (34:54):
Yeah.
Is it part of the original gamewhere you can like zoom in
during cut scenes?
Uh, for this, because like thefidelity so much, I know like
the first person was in the OG.
Yeah.
I like that.

SPEAKER_02 (35:07):
Yeah.
I also, uh, you can move the, the, when you're in the codec
mode, you can move the cameraaround, around snake or
whatever.

SPEAKER_01 (35:14):
Oh, that's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I like that stuff.
I just feel like, uh, there'slike a lot of like little
touches.
I feel like where it's like, this is a smartly designed game.

SPEAKER_03 (35:24):
Uh, I, uh, I know that it was a thing in the OG
because I was 12 when I playedit originally, and there are
scenes that let you do that.
Uh-oh.
Hey.

SPEAKER_01 (35:37):
Hey.
Horny.
Put that on the soundboard.
It's

SPEAKER_03 (35:43):
okay, though, because it turns out I turned
out to be a gay woman, so it'sfine.
It's a different kind

SPEAKER_02 (35:53):
of horny.
Same horny.

SPEAKER_03 (35:54):
That's right.
That's right.

SPEAKER_02 (35:57):
Nice, yeah.
One thing that I misremembered, and I was sitting here like a
crazy person just mashing everyfucking button on the controller
and being like, why isn't itworking?
In MGS2, during codec sequences,if you press L1 and R1, you can
hear people's thoughts.
Oh, shit.
It's pretty fucking sick.
And I can't remember if you haveto beat the game first or if

(36:17):
it's just by default.

SPEAKER_03 (36:19):
It's just in there,

SPEAKER_02 (36:20):
yeah.
Yeah, but I think, so one ofthem, it's either L1 or L2 or R1
or R2, but one of them ispositive thoughts.
The other is negative thoughts.
That's incredible.
And I thought it was in thisgame too.
So I kid you not, I pressedevery fucking button on the
controller and I was like, MajorTom, why can't I hear your
thoughts?

SPEAKER_01 (36:39):
Yeah, I'm curious because I haven't really played
this one through.
Is this the type of game where Ishould be like kind of exploring
the sets I'm in to find shit?
Like are there things to see?
Like things I need to be awareof?
that you would recommend like anew player watch out for

SPEAKER_03 (36:57):
they're the

SPEAKER_01 (36:59):
r1 contain yeah in the

SPEAKER_02 (37:01):
later

SPEAKER_01 (37:02):
in

SPEAKER_02 (37:03):
the game later in the game there's like r1 shit
that's like legit hidden rightor yeah defining

SPEAKER_03 (37:10):
okay um as far as like exploring the world not
really they're like they'repretty they're pretty like
contained set boxes so there'snot a lot if you're interested
like i think every like eachscene has like a gako and a
karopi in it like a little frogokay um so that's the
collectibles for the game soyou'd shoot them and they make
okay okay cool you get like uhyou get some type of prize for

(37:32):
collecting them um at the endbut um keep an eye out for that

SPEAKER_02 (37:37):
oh i love this and we didn't mention it in the part
one i love that this gameactually shows you what you get
for shit so like if you go intoso at the beginning when it hits
you with the choice hey whichmetal gear do you like oh and
you get like the big list a it'samazing to see how many things
because i went back to theoriginal and there's like
fucking three items thisessentially.
Um, but in this game, before youclick one, it actually shows you

(38:00):
what it's going to do, which itdid not in the original.
And then the other thing is ifyou go into the options and you
look under titles or whatever, where it shows you the different
code names you can get forbeating the game, it just
straight up tells you what youunlock for doing that.
And it tells you how to get it,um, which the other games never,
never did.
Um, and I, I don't know.
I kind of like secrets wherelike no one says shit, but in

(38:22):
today's day and age, uh, with mylimited time it's like well
thank you for letting me knowwhat's behind door

SPEAKER_01 (38:28):
number two I agree it does feel like such a
philosophy shift in like gamedesign because yeah like that
feels so PS2 era of like there'sgonna be some shit that like if
you do it you're gonna getsomething cool but we're never
gonna tell you how to do it orwhy to do it whereas yeah I feel
like most things now like peopleexpect like some form of like
streamlined like if you're gonnahave me spend time on this like

(38:49):
I gotta know what I'm gettingout of it just like I think like
good for like people who grew upwith video games who are now
more limited on time but it'sinteresting like I don't know
I'd be curious to see like theamount of like 12 to 15 year
olds that are playing Delta Ibet it's low because they're on
fucking Roblox you know

SPEAKER_03 (39:11):
they're playing a lovingly a lovingly crafted
recreation of Delta in Robloxright now

SPEAKER_02 (39:18):
I do hope that for some like 12 13 year old maybe
with a dad who love playing thisgame or something I do hope that
for them this is like awatershed moment oh fuck like
this is great

SPEAKER_03 (39:32):
yeah like I feel like if Edie was was a little
bit older this would probably belike you'd probably be sharing
this with her right now

SPEAKER_02 (39:39):
yeah if she was like 10 years old probably

SPEAKER_01 (39:43):
if she was like four

SPEAKER_02 (39:45):
yeah if she was like four years old yeah we're being
those fucking yeah like rightnow we're being those fucking
obnoxious parents where it'sLike I think Edith to date has
maybe seen a television screenturned on for a grand total of
like four hours across herentire lifespan.
Um, but, uh, yeah.

(40:05):
And even when it's on afterabout five minutes, she fucking
just walks away.
She doesn't even give a shit.
So it's like, yeah, I was gonnasay medically we've heard from
so many people that like screentime before two is like a big
fucking no, no.

SPEAKER_01 (40:19):
I would imagine it's very damaging neurological
stuff.

SPEAKER_02 (40:23):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Once

SPEAKER_03 (40:25):
two hits, though, iPad, baby.
No,

SPEAKER_02 (40:32):
I mean, I'm not going to lie.
Again, I don't want to fuckingcast judgment.
Everybody does their own thing, especially single parents.
God fucking bless you.
That is insanity.
But anytime I go to a restaurantand there's a kid Edith's age
with just a fucking iPad infront of her for the duration of
the two-hour dinner, I'm justlike, what the fuck is
happening?

SPEAKER_01 (40:50):
Just fucking up those dopamine receptors early.

SPEAKER_02 (40:53):
Yeah.
dude it's like I don't know Iget it you want to go out on a
nice dinner but like maybe get agoddamn babysitter yeah I don't
know anyway come at meeverybody's different sorry I
don't mean to be judgmental I'mvery ordinary this morning but
yeah if anybody's listening whohas a kid that's a teen who

(41:14):
you're showing this game to wewould love to hear

SPEAKER_01 (41:16):
about yeah yeah any good bonding happening I always
think that's really cool becauseI mean like I remember like my
dad showed me games that heloved at an early age and it was
like a really great bondingmoment and I can only imagine
like had I been a little bitolder experiencing something
that like had so many real worldconnections like this game like

(41:42):
bonding to the nth degree youknow so like I'm also stoked to
hear about that I hope there arefolks out there that are getting
to share something they lovesomeone they love

SPEAKER_03 (41:53):
yeah my my story about how I got into metal gear
in the first place is prettywell documented.
So it's like, yeah, pretty

SPEAKER_02 (42:00):
key.
Yeah.
And again, I would say to like,if, if your kids are super,
super young, I think it'stotally fucking a okay to sit
down with them together andwatch some shit and talk about
it and have it be a dialogue.
Um, what I am saying I'm againstis just shoving a screen in
front of your kid and thenleaving them unattended.

SPEAKER_01 (42:22):
Set it and forget

SPEAKER_02 (42:23):
it.
So, yeah I'll never forgetactually it was I was reading
about Kojima's upbringing and hesaid that he was also an iPad
baby he was an iDroid iDroidbaby but he said that his
parents when he got to a certainage would take him to the movies

(42:44):
almost every week and thenafterwards they would talk about
what they watched and then thatwas like a huge defining thing
for him and I've never likestopped thinking about that so I
think when Edith is old enoughit's going to be like hey let's
go watch a movie and then as afamily talk about what we just
watched that's it so anyway yeahcontact at Metal Gear Mondays

(43:04):
when

SPEAKER_03 (43:04):
you're showing yeah contact at Metal Gear Mondays
dot com when you're showing yourone and a half year old the
substance please let us knowcontact at Metal Gear Mondays
dot com

SPEAKER_02 (43:14):
you have to show her how babies ride

SPEAKER_03 (43:17):
yeah of course with a really disturbingly long
needle and a lot ofuncomfortable scenery so imagery
I just want to I just want toagain I'm the I'm the queen of
like taking us off the path fora second but James you saying
set it and forget it do peopleknow that set it and forget it
is from the the the RoncoShowtime rotisserie oven

(43:41):
infomercial

SPEAKER_02 (43:42):
I think

SPEAKER_03 (43:42):
technically it's

SPEAKER_02 (43:43):
from the I think it's from infomercial world but
I think it predates the Roncostuff too

SPEAKER_01 (43:50):
I'm pretty sure Ronco is like the original and I
know it's from an infomercialbut I don't I will say I
remember it being

SPEAKER_03 (44:00):
Ronco

SPEAKER_02 (44:02):
you're totally right yeah I didn't forget it

SPEAKER_03 (44:06):
my screen time when I was a kid was literally just
watching infomercials all thetime and

SPEAKER_02 (44:10):
I wish I was joking I did too but for some reason in
my head I was like surely it'sgot to be older than the 90s
like it has

SPEAKER_03 (44:18):
to be one of my favorite infomercials that I've
ever seen was and I can't findit online anywhere it's like it
might be a hallucination becausei did watch infomercials when i
was a kid when i was sick a lotwhen i was home from school but
there was a there was um aninfomercial for this thing
called the nicer dicer and itwas one of those like it was one
of those like things where youput the fruit or the vegetable

(44:40):
and the thing you slam it yeahchops it and like the slam slap
chop

SPEAKER_01 (44:44):
yeah yeah

SPEAKER_03 (44:44):
no

SPEAKER_01 (44:44):
no no that's a different thing that's a
different thing about one ofthose commercials where they
show people being really ineptwith normal everyday objects
like knives they're like oh howdo i cut this and they're just
slamming a knife into a table.
It's like, not like that.
Not like that at

SPEAKER_03 (44:57):
all.
Not like that.
But they invited the creator ofthe Nice Day Dice with German
engineering, the creator PetraLee Potts.
And it's the most exaggeratedGerman.
And to be fair, I don't know ifshe was actually German or if it
was a character or if it was thereal person.
But Petra Lee Potts was the mostexaggerated German accent.
It's like, yeah, we have theNice Day Dice.

(45:20):
And we're going to chop theapple for the student.
Yeah, it was very it was verylike what is happening this
feels offensive incredible

SPEAKER_02 (45:29):
yeah so the the three sick minds that you're
listening to uh were brought upwith the clockwork orange clamps
on our eyes yes and uh watchingmen cut shoes with knives very
quickly um and uh hearing billymays say billy mays here um i
still remember the

SPEAKER_03 (45:48):
original magic bullet infomercial

SPEAKER_02 (45:50):
oh yeah oh yeah that's a good one uh Yeah,
there's some really good ones.
Maybe we do that.
You know what?
I think we do.
I'm going to put that on thePatriot Club.
I think that would be a funtopic.
That would be a good one.
So if you'd like to hear ustalking about random bullshit
and I just want to we got intoit super quick and I also don't
want this to be like a fullblown hardcore normal episode.

(46:12):
But I just want to say I'm goingto super quick plug.
I'm sorry that we're not doing asponsor for this episode.
But again, this is like a littlebonus thing.
But if you like the show and youwant to hear us talk about shit
that's not Metal Gear you canpatronize us at$5 or more and
listen to our podcast oneverything like the infomercials

(46:35):
we're talking about if

SPEAKER_03 (46:37):
you like hearing when it is not about the game

SPEAKER_02 (46:39):
yeah yeah the one star review that we received in
2017

SPEAKER_03 (46:45):
if you would give us five stars for it not being
about the game and you like whenit is anything but the game
Patriot Club is the place foryou

SPEAKER_02 (46:53):
yeah

SPEAKER_03 (46:53):
Patreon.com slash Metal Gear Mondays.
We'll talk more about it later.

SPEAKER_02 (46:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, more about that on partone of the Delta coverage.
At the very beginning, actually.
And you know what?
If whatever the fuck his name,Gaiden LVI or whatever, if he
ever updates that fucking 2017review, I'll stop talking about
it.
How about that?
That'll be

SPEAKER_01 (47:17):
our...
I like to think we're going toclick into it one day and it's
going to be like, you know, I'vematured a lot and I actually
really like when they don't talkabout the game

SPEAKER_02 (47:28):
james chill i can only get so hard

SPEAKER_03 (47:30):
i can only get so hard you'll come to find that
half the reason people listen tous is because of our musings
when we're not talking about thegame

SPEAKER_01 (47:37):
yeah i would love to see i want this i want that
person to send us a super cut ofwhat how long the total podcast
would be if it were just thesections we were talking about
oh yeah i like that i like that

SPEAKER_02 (47:53):
i mean to To be fair, early days, I feel like we
were pretty beholden.
That's true.
We're pretty on target.
Yeah, you know, we got to makeit fun for us, too, you know?
Like, come on, guys.
James, what are you hoping forwith Delta?
Like, what are your hopes, dreams, fears?
What does the future hold forDelta for

SPEAKER_01 (48:12):
you?
I think I'm mostly just excitedto experience this story that
I've heard so much about overthe years.
I feel like many people lovethis story as, like, you know
the story I'm excited to nowthat I've played more games
written by Kojima excited to seesome of those threads some of

(48:37):
those phantom threads as it were

SPEAKER_03 (48:40):
it's honestly it's kind of like it's interesting in
a lot of ways because we makefun of Kojima for his like tell
don't show storytelling all thetime it's kind It's kind of
comforting.
It's like a little comfortblanket.

SPEAKER_02 (48:56):
Oh, yeah.
It's Kojima soup

SPEAKER_03 (48:58):
for the teenage soul.
It's Kojima's Chunky Paps BlueRibbon Soup for the player's
soul.

SPEAKER_06 (49:05):
Yeah,

SPEAKER_01 (49:09):
no, there's some fun shit.
Chunky Paps Blue Ribbon Soup.
Oh, my God.
It's so good.

UNKNOWN (49:14):
Ew.

SPEAKER_02 (49:18):
I'm going to clip James saying, so good, and just
use that in the soundtrack.
word yes yes um yeah i thinkoutside of that james is there
anything else you want to speakon since you're not going to be
on part one is there anything inthe virtuous mission that you
wanted yeah i took a couplewe'll

SPEAKER_03 (49:36):
plant a fat we'll plant a flag at the beginning of
part two as well for for jamesto like talk about like anything
pressing that came from thatinvolved like story spoilers or
things that he wants to wants tobring up so we're so we're gonna
get james's thoughts on thewider virtuous mission
regardless but just anything wecan talk about like a first
impression like non-spoilercapacity

SPEAKER_01 (49:57):
yeah I'm just looking through my notes here I
there are just like some thingsthat I thought were just like
funny about like the openingcredits mostly like the
disclaimer about preserving thecreator's original vision like

(50:17):
that Looney Tunes ask likeyou're about to experience maybe
some things that sound racistbut it's a different time And
then the, the, the thing thatlike kind of stuck with me that
I was just like thinking about, and I'm sure this is more of a
semantics thing, but just likeit outright saying like based on
MGS three.

SPEAKER_02 (50:38):
Oh, I thought that was interesting.
Yeah.
We didn't even talk about thatin our part one episode.
So yeah, it was an interestingcredit to see.

SPEAKER_01 (50:46):
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Also like, I think it, it'ssaying like, the thing of like
based on the creator's originalvision I was just like just call
him by his government

SPEAKER_02 (51:02):
name you

SPEAKER_06 (51:02):
know

SPEAKER_02 (51:02):
I think it's also interesting when asked I can't
remember who asked him this butsome interviewer asked Kojima if
he was going to play Delta andhe like laughed and said no I
think obviously a lot of peopleare interpreting that as oh fuck
Konami but I think consideringlike a lot of Kojima's
collaborators worked on thislike I kojima doesn't strike me

(51:24):
as the kind of person to bedisrespectful to his friends and
collaborators so i almost thinkthat what we're seeing is sort
of a byproduct of what we talkedabout the death stranding 2
thing which is like kojima hasjust moved on you know what i
mean like i don't think he's gotany necessarily any uh any uh

(51:44):
hankering to go back to like anold old old project for sure um
so but yeah i'll be curious ifhe ever does check it out um uh
in the way that david haterfinally played mgs5 i'll be
curious

SPEAKER_01 (51:57):
yeah well i mean like we talked about a little
bit in the the dust drainingcoverage but it does feel like
kojima has moved on and hasreally reclaimed a lot of these
things that uh you know heobviously contributed strong
vision to creating and he's likei still got it baby yeah

SPEAKER_03 (52:13):
it's also worth mentioning too i think like it's
his baby and and he has love forit and everything like that and
i'm sure but like he was alreadykind of getting tired of metal
gear by 3 and anyway yeah andthen went on to make three more
so it's like

SPEAKER_02 (52:28):
yeah i think originally he said three was the
end for him like he said he justwanted to do this and be done
with it so

SPEAKER_01 (52:34):
i will say um so i've only done the virtuous
mission so far like i'm notsuper far in i'm planning on
playing a bunch this weekend butuh it has given me a new
perspective on the completenessof five i actually think five is
a more complete story than igave it credit for despite it
feeling like a little loose insome ways in the back half and

(52:58):
so i'm excited to see like as ilearn more about this story how
i feel about like peace walkerand five um and then eventually
two when i play that um in thecontext of like what we're
getting here

SPEAKER_02 (53:09):
i've never considered the fact that
somebody will know vulgan as aburned faceless golem

SPEAKER_01 (53:16):
that was it was exactly my thought oh shit i was
like i forgot that that's whothis is i was like oh my god
yeah yeah yeah that's crazy

SPEAKER_02 (53:24):
yeah i literally never even fucking thought that
that would be a thing yeah so uhyeah brace for that uh brace for
the origin brace for the originsof quiet's parasite situation
and yeah just brace for a lot soyeah i'm pumped i

SPEAKER_03 (53:44):
think they should have put the end in a bikini

SPEAKER_02 (53:49):
yeah yeah what the fuck why is it that quiet has to
be naked so her skin canphotosynthesize but the end gets
to be all wrapped up in old manclothes

SPEAKER_03 (53:59):
I think isn't the idea like free the old man's
dick god damn it free the dickwell isn't there like a thing we
should probably not talk aboutthis we'll save this for future
parts I'll remember this thingthat I'm going to ask it was a
serious question not a joke butwe'll save it that's why I'm
saving it and not just tellingthe joke uh

SPEAKER_02 (54:23):
Thank you for that peek inside of your thought
process.

SPEAKER_03 (54:27):
Again, it's like one of those things where if I don't
say the words out loud, theywill haunt me until I die.

SPEAKER_02 (54:34):
Nice.
Well, cool.
I'm very excited.
I think some of the key momentsI'm looking forward to are a lot
of the boss fights.
And yeah, I'm really excited toget James's input.
And I'm really excited for youguys to hear the wonderful
episode we did with Kay.
So it's where, yeah, we're offto a great start um if there is

(54:56):
anyone who you would like tohave uh on here as a guest
feature and i don't i don'tnecessarily want to talk shit
about how we handled mgs3 andmgs4 back in the day but i think
having like listeners guest umand finding our footing and
doing like every other episodeas a listener response episode
there were just a lot of thingsthat i think we were still kind

(55:17):
of finding our way um so in thespirit of trying to keep a
certain level of production andtrying to keep a certain level
of like uh people who areaccustomed to having discussions
uh in the media if there isanyone that you can think of
like a um jake baldino from gameranks or whatever if there are

(55:37):
people that you know that lovemetal gear that are like anyone
from kind of funny whateverthere's anybody that you would
like man i'd really love if theywould appear as the third or
fourth seat on this season um afeel free to reach out to them
on on your own and let them knowbut be feel free to reach out to
us and let us know if there'ssomebody who you think we should

(55:59):
reach out to

SPEAKER_03 (56:01):
that's the thing it's like we can attempt to
reach out with them as well andthat does work sometimes but
like a lot of thesepersonalities and stuff that
talk about this have talked alot about how like their fans
reaching out to them about stuffis the reason why they do things
gotta have the yeah so could bethe move yeah

SPEAKER_02 (56:18):
yeah could be could be super helpful and because
we're on our bi-weekly scheduleI mean obviously you're getting
this on release day but thenyou're going to get next week's
episode as scheduled becausewe're bi-weekly it means we do
have a little bit more time toreach out to folks and get like
special surprises lined up so

SPEAKER_03 (56:37):
yeah it doesn't mean we have anything special lined
up it's just the way of howwe're doing it so yeah just
don't get too excited

SPEAKER_02 (56:44):
yeah yeah the potential for excitement is a
thing but yeah awesome all rightwell in terms of any sort of
current announcements that haveto happen before next episode.
I think I'm set.
Do you guys have anythingpressing that you want to
announce today?

SPEAKER_03 (57:04):
Not an announcement.
I do mention it on the part oneepisode at the beginning, but I
do want to just kind ofhighlight it here as well.
Something that I'm not superexcited about but kind of is
necessary is that I have starteda GoFundMe for some moving
expenses um we currently live meand my wife currently live in a

(57:25):
red state um and they're passinglegislation and they're doing a
lot of like really unfortunatethings regarding trans rights
and stuff that are veryuncomfortable

SPEAKER_02 (57:35):
so um of states that's accepting the national
guard deployment and trying toessentially turn into a police
state

SPEAKER_03 (57:44):
not so far but i think it's because we're not
that important so um but youknow who knows is the thing that
i was worried about is like whenwe moved to I'm from here and
the thing that we the thing thatI was not anticipating when we
moved here was that this wasgoing to happen and so you can't

(58:04):
plan for your awakening as ahuman so it's like yeah we gotta
go and so we're kind of likewe've got some time left before
we do it but we were calculatingand it's just like unless we
want to like suffer greatly forthe next eight months um the
savings that we're doing or thatwe can do is not going to be

(58:25):
enough to get us over the finishline.
So I started to go fund me.
Um, uh, and, um, it's doingfairly well.
It's like a dynamic thing.
So the goal that's set right nowis going to automatically like
go up with, with time.
But, um, when we hit like theoriginal, it's what go find me
is weird, but, um, we have thego fund me.

(58:48):
Um, the link is on my link treelink tr.ee slash Liliana Don L I
L I A-N-A-D-A-W-N.

SPEAKER_02 (58:57):
She's really close too, guys.
If anybody can help just get herover the finish line, that would
be amazing.
Absolutely.
I also want to thank all of ourcurrent folks who've supported
the show who have also supportedLily.
100%.

SPEAKER_01 (59:10):
I saw the list of donors and I was like, shout out
to Metal Gear Monday's communityreally showing up.
Lily, I just want to say I'm soproud of you doing this.
I think it's really hard to askfor help, especially in today's
climate when it can feel likethere's a lot of different noise
out there.

(59:31):
Good on you.
Shout out to the community.
We're going to get you to yourgoal.
We're going to share this shitaround.
Get you out of Ohio.

SPEAKER_03 (59:43):
It's also one of those things, and that's the
other thing too, is when we hitthe goal, the more we get, the
better it can be.
With the unfortunate news, Fromthe other day, one of the places
we were considering isMinneapolis, which just had a
whole thing happen.
But overall, as far as supportfor trans people, it's probably

(01:00:05):
one of the best states you canmove to in the country that
isn't one of the coastal citiesthat is really expensive.
We might be able to do somethinglike that.
The options are if we hit ourmain goal Minneapolis is like go
if we can expand it and get morewe can move to a coast maybe

(01:00:29):
back to Washington or even up toCanada in some instances because
my job will help support thevisa process but I we need to
make sure like it is feasiblefor us to do so that's kind of
like stretch goals is like heymore money I get the safer I can
be basically so it's just likeit's levels to it so I again yes

(01:00:50):
the the community has beenamazing.
I should look at this.
Tyler Nunez, Chad, JohnnyFlores, Alessio has been very

(01:01:11):
kind with his money and hisplatform as well.
James, I know you had talkedabout helping out too.
I just donated.
Did you really?

SPEAKER_01 (01:01:20):
Live Live on the show.
Live on the

SPEAKER_03 (01:01:23):
air.
Oh, shit.
Telethon style.
That's right.
Jordan Carroll as well arepeople from the community that I
want to thank that have shown upand donated.
But even if you can't donate, sharing it, if you can share it
and you know there are people inyour network that would see it

(01:01:43):
and be compelled to help orwould like to help, then that's
help enough.
I know plenty of people thathave shared it that I again,
like Alessio shared it on hisplatforms and we've gotten, I've
gotten some, I get a donationfrom somebody that I don't know
that has seen it and was kindenough to tell about.
So it's literally just sharing.
It can also be a big help.

(01:02:05):
So again, that link is on mylink tree, linktree.com slash
Liliana Dawn.
I will say like, and I don'tmean to like jump into like the
defensiveness immediately.
And cause this is nobody exceptfor one specific person.
I'm not going to name them, butlike, if your goal here is to be
like well why are you moving andwhy do you need this money and

(01:02:27):
explain your purity to meotherwise you don't get anything
then it's

SPEAKER_02 (01:02:32):
like your pain isn't past a certain threshold you
don't deserve my five dollarsright

SPEAKER_03 (01:02:37):
yeah then just like then just don't just walk away
just look away and don't donateand that's fine I

SPEAKER_02 (01:02:42):
had somebody not an investment so yeah merit based
thing is kind of goofy

SPEAKER_03 (01:02:49):
and it's like one of those things like I've been on
I've been doing this show like alot of people 10 years again
we're coming up on the 10 yearanniversary of this podcast and
this show and doing all of thislike at this point if you don't
trust that it's for the rightreasons that i'm doing it then
why do you even listen to theshow right like right so it's
one of those things so againthis is nobody else except for
this one person who who likecame and directly asked me i was

(01:03:13):
like well well can you give someevidence that you're suffering
it's just like no dude i'm notgonna do that it's just i am i
am it's hard to be here and uhwell and things are just gonna
get tougher yeah yeah and againi'm not of any like i know
there's a lot of stuff going onlike there's so many like
there's so many there's so manyplaces where it's just like

(01:03:35):
palace people in palestine needhelp there's people all over the
country need help and likepeople are making their
donations things like that i'm iknow that i'm not like the most
oppressed person in the world iget that but i um but i you know
i could really yeah

SPEAKER_01 (01:03:50):
but i i think in today's world like the thing
that you can do that is probablythe most valuable and most
impactful is supporting thepeople that are in your
community.
Uh, and, and Lily, you have alarge community of supporters
here.
And like, if everybody took theattitude of like, well, there's
also all these other things.
It's like, well, nothing wouldever get done.
No one would ever get out.
Yeah.

(01:04:10):
There's always going to be otherthings.
So it's like, if you can, youknow, even by sharing, uh, if
you can't donate, like if youcan share, like it goes a long
way, you know?
And like, yeah, you'll feel goodabout supporting someone you
love.
And

SPEAKER_02 (01:04:26):
regardless of whatever permutation of beliefs
you have or configuration of, ofwhatever, um, right now is the
best time, uh, to, to support acommunity, be a part of a
community, have a, have a tightrelationship with people in your
community.
Um, again, regardless of, Oh,you're not progressive enough.

(01:04:48):
Oh, you're not liberal enough.
Oh, you're not moderate enough, whatever the fuck, your beliefs
are it doesn't matter humanityand friendship and togetherness
is very important so I wouldhope that if I were to hop on
and tell you guys I'm in a toughsituation and make because one
thing you guys need to realizeand I don't want to harp on this

(01:05:08):
for too much longer but like onething you need to realize is
like it's you have to bevulnerable to ask for things
like what Lily's asking for soif anybody ever came to us
feeling very vulnerable withlike a very serious ask I would
never dismiss it And I hope thatif I came to the show with a
very vulnerable ask, um, that, that you guys would, would
provide both myself and Lilywith the same amount of respect.

(01:05:32):
You know what I mean?
So, um,

SPEAKER_03 (01:05:34):
yeah.
And I say, I think it was like, like we are like, you know, it's
a podcast and everybody'sscattered, but it is like, it
was a community.
And I think we're all very proudof the community that we have.
We have fostered.
Um, it is a community that hastranscended borders and
backgrounds and all kinds ofstuff.
So

SPEAKER_02 (01:05:48):
are you describing outer heaven

SPEAKER_03 (01:05:49):
right now?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
we've created our own outerheaven like it's basically yeah
so it's just like you know I'mcoming to my community and
asking for help and it is hardand I don't like having to do it
but I am thankful that I feellike I can so 100% that's all

SPEAKER_02 (01:06:08):
thank you for your consideration I love you thank
everybody who's been listeningthanks to everybody for hearing
us out thanks to everybody forsupporting us enough for us to
be here right now and I hopethat everyone who has Delta
already enjoys it happy releaseday if you've had Delta for two
days now I hope you've beenenjoying those two days if

SPEAKER_03 (01:06:27):
you've had Delta for two days now and beat it Alex
Hill yeah I hope you enjoyed it

SPEAKER_02 (01:06:34):
yeah yeah yeah I guess you know what you know I'm
gonna stop giving Alex a hardtime because I eat food very
quickly and my wife is alwayslike well fucking enjoy it
Alessio and I'm always I'malways like I did enjoy it and
you know what I'm gonna have tothink about Alex in that way now
so Alex do your thing dude I'mso sorry for for ragging on you
in the

SPEAKER_03 (01:06:54):
past.
It was like, oh, old Mr.
Wait, was it you that said thatold Mr.
Cutscene Skip himself?
No, it wasn't you.
It was somebody else.

SPEAKER_02 (01:07:00):
I did say I was proud of him for not skipping
cutscenes, and he said, thanks,Dad.
You're

SPEAKER_03 (01:07:06):
welcome, son.
He also did not skip thecutscenes in Claire Obscure,
which is a much longer game.
He was very involved in theconversation about the story.
He talks about video games, andhe does watch the cutscenes of
many video games.
Nature is healing.
We rag on him because he doesn'tknow anything about the Final

(01:07:27):
Fantasy XIV story despite beingincredibly deep in Final Fantasy
XIV.

SPEAKER_02 (01:07:31):
He does skip a lot of cutscenes.
His username is literallyCutsceneSkip on PSN.

SPEAKER_03 (01:07:36):
He's a reformed story boy, though.

SPEAKER_02 (01:07:38):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anyway, but yeah, I hopeeverybody enjoys it.
I hope everybody has a goodtime.
Shout out to the original castfor re-recording lines, even if
they were very minimal.
Fingers crossed we get a chanceto talk to David Hayter sometime
in the coming months somethingis in the works there and yeah I
don't know I'm just glad we'refinally officially like we were

(01:08:00):
back with Death Stranding butwe're finally officially like
back with Metal Gear and itfeels like we're uniting with an
old friend so that's right

SPEAKER_03 (01:08:08):
it's finally about the game

SPEAKER_06 (01:08:11):
after

SPEAKER_03 (01:08:14):
all these years and it's finally well do we want to
do like our social stuff

SPEAKER_02 (01:08:21):
or I think you're fine.
Go for it.

SPEAKER_03 (01:08:23):
Okay.
It's finally about the game.
And it's finally, finally, justa box.
