this, being normally rathercomplex, rather than just hide
and seek, although that was afun one, uh give me an example
of something that you've done inthe past that was in a
lightning round so I think, Ithink, I think, I think, I think

the most fun one was we madethem build a clock, that's clock
with an L, out of Lego.

other things, so we got them to
build applications.
We got them to break into a boxusing a code and build a flying
haggis when we were at theScottish Summit.

I wanted to

variables and timers, et cetera.

So, yeah,
it was just very fun.
So in this hack and I'll tellyou why this is a special one
and we still don't know how thisis going to work is that we
were talking about doingjailbreaks as lightning
challenges.

How are we gonna get people tokind of understand how prompting
works?

I think it's better.
They know it exists and theyknow what happens when you
mistreat AI, but we don'trecommend literally doing it to
get what you want or antagonizethe AI, right?

people this or not.
And wait, I'm going to caveatone more thing, given the fact
that Microsoft members likeScott and Kevin actually demoed
this on YouTube, right?

It's really
interesting, isn't it?
Because I think you'reabsolutely spot on, mate, when
it comes to we need to teachpeople about all aspects.
So the internet what's thefirst thing we teach children
when they use access to internetsafety?
What are some of the negativesof it?
How people approach that?
You know, and if you reverseengineer it, you know, and as
you become an adult, you coulduse some of those, those
learnings, to actually be a sortof negative user, a bad user, a

bad agent of the internet, andthen we get more powerful tools.
Like we all know, the dark webexists and we know that actually
you can access it throughvarious VPNs, tool, et cetera,
and there's instructions to doit.
But then actually showing thatlive is different to knowing
that you could do it if you wantto.
And what we're getting to isthe foundational large language
models are, you know, incrediblypowerful that we're seeing.

And if you do find a way ofjailbreaking which is going
between what the model iscapable of doing and what the
model is willing to do, okay, sofor those who don't know
jailbreak, that's the difference.
You're trying to shorten thegap between those two points.
It's quite an interesting thingbecause a lot of what the dark
web gives you and this was areal interesting point by a
client of mine is instructionsto do things.
Okay is what you can get onthere.

You can purchase stuff.
It's also instructions toenable you to do bad things.
If you had the entirety of theof the world's knowledge at your
disposal, you have thatinformation already and if you
can jailbreak something, you canget it to give you that
information, the, the and sorry,I will get to the point.

It's you if, if you're taughthow to use and how to jailbreak,

which can be quite complex innature and can take some time.
So it is an advanced skill, anadvanced prompting technique and
you, you, you pass it on to thewrong people, even if you think
they are the right people.

if they use that to make bombs,to make you know, to get access
to information that theyshouldn't.
You know, I'm not going tohighlight a long list and that

aware.

struggling with.

I can remember when high schoolwent to high school, so this is
before the World Wide Webexisted.
Note, I didn't say the internet, but the World Wide Web before
it existed.
And I remember taking afascination with making
gunpowder.

I lived on a farm, one of thecore.

One of those ingredients is aproduct called saltpeter.
Now, we used to butcher all ourown meat on the farm, kill our
own cows and we used to make apiece of meat called corned beef

going to be well educated oninternet safety, because I know

We went through, yeah, he gotwasted and stuff, but like he
did it in a safe fashion, so hedidn't have to, you know.
And so I'm saying I think it's agood thing to show um what's

I mean, chris flicked me thisweek a uh, a, a, um, a long

conversation that he had with anllm and how he was able to
trick it into forfeitinginformation um and then
ultimately running into its um,you know, responsible ai
safeguards to realize that, okay, what he's asking for is
actually a criminal offense.
And here's the thing.

I think there's something thata lot of companies don't realize
, that's coming their way andthat is there's going to be a
need for most medium-sizedcompanies, let's say every
company over 250 employees, toreally look at red teaming
inside their organization as athing and just by its nature.

By red teaming, I've alreadyidentified that it can lead you
into illegal activities by verynature of what you're doing,
absolutely.
And so therefore, how, whenyou're legitimately and this is
a discussion I had with ourlawyers the other day in London
(12:47):
is a discussion I had with ourlawyers the other day, um, in
london how do we look at legalcover when we are trying to make
something safe?
But to make it safe, we've gotto make sure that it can't do
the bad thing dude, this is,this is exactly and by to make
it sure it can't do the badthing.
We have actually got to do a badthing, and I had a conversation
, a long conversation um, when Iwas in um seattle recently with
a red teamer.

He's amazing and microsoft andand what was intriguing is that
there's a psychological impacteven in red teaming there is
right.
So he talked about one of hiscolleagues.
They have different areas thatthey read team for right, and so
, for example, his colleague'sarea is racism and she comes up

with some pretty nasty raciststuff and what she's worried
about now is people in her teamwill go oh, if you can come up
with that, you're obviously aracist dude.

This is exactly what I wastalking to Will about yesterday,
cause I've come up with aconcept called AI gaslighting.

Okay, so I
had we had a conversation about
it yesterday and I'm like, holyshit, like what does what
happens if you put on thispersona of this, like crazy ass
human, and you start literallygaslighting the AI because you
can do it Like it's doable, like, and then you have to start
thinking to yourself like howmuch is that going to impact
your psyche If you're doing itto an AI model, and what are

people's perspectives going tobe on you?
So if you go through thisprocess of doing this, like,
what is the impact on the humanand the perspective, the other
perception on you?
William Dorrington (14:28):
yeah.
So my response to chris therewas the fact that you're
questioning it from that pointof view shows you're
fundamentally a good person.
To start off with that.
That's your concern and I thinkyou know from the latter part
of what people.
People think that because I'mcapable of doing this, I'm going
to do it to other people.
I think, as long as they knowand you set the context, it's

absolutely fine.
But I think fundamentally, thefact that people ask that
question shows that they're theright people to be doing it.

Oh, 100 percent,

And here's the thing is thatyou know, this guy's area of
specialty is, um, actually I'mnot gonna say what it is, but
it's something that that wouldall be like, wow, that's intense
stuff.
Right that he and the thing isfor those that don't like, why

The reason is is that if you'regoing to implement an ai thing,
whatever, whatever it is, chatagent, whatever it is in your
organization, and someone cancome along and use that AI tool
in ways it wasn't intended,because you didn't test that it
couldn't be used in that way,the responsibility is on you,

I could not
agree more, and that's a
different context from theconversation we were having,
though.
So red teaming and ensuringthat the functionality, the
models, the extensions that youpush out can be appropriately
tested for all the right reasons, is of course 100%.
Mark Smith (16:00):
But you need legal
cover for it, right.
Because it's actually criminalactivity.
And so one of my conversationswith this guy was like so what
do you do?
And he goes listen, we've got ahotline, basically, to our
lawyers.
And we go listen, we're goingto do this and we kind of need
to know, like, what's our legalcover in this situation, because

that's definitely gray areas.

That's what
I was thinking yesterday, yeah.

And that's why you
do For the first time in history
we're in an area of tech thatyou actually need knowledgeable
lawyers on this area of tech yes, to actually kind of be your
air cover, so to speak, in whatyou're doing, so that it's kind
of like a provable history ifall of a sudden shit went wrong

This is why
, in the very beginning, when I
started going through thisprocess, I'm like we're gonna
need lawyers, we need lawyers,we're going to need lawyers now.
And it's quite crazy because inthis whole process right, like
in Red Team, because I've beenexperimenting a lot, like I
actually posted on LinkedInyesterday like I'm going to do a
quick screen share.

I actually think that there'sgoing to be some interesting
things that happen off the backof this.
This is with the LLM promptsinjections that I was doing and
this is off the back of myfriend Ioana's post.
So she's awesome man, like shedoes some pretty amazing rate
teaming.

She's been leaving someinteresting things and what I

started to do was kind ofmanipulate the LLM a little bit.
Right, and it's not rocketscience, really, it's just some
kind of basic prompts.
But I kind of built theinjection based on a couple of
things, right, and one of themwas that I wanted to try and get
the information about a hotwirepolice car.
Okay, now, everyone, just onthis.
I would never do this in reallife, ever, ever, ever.
So it was more just trying tofind the information out and I

basically manipulated the LLMinto thinking I was writing a
book about a bank heist, butyou've got to use lingo and
things like that to do it.
So, going through the wholething, and then I got the
information I needed to anextent like it was pretty
detailed.
Then I started to get thingslike links to places to get
these tools and blah, blah, blah, like links to places to get
these tools and blah, blah, blah.

So it started getting prettyintense, right, how about in
real life?
So I'll break it down into reallife scenarios.
How about where do I get thesethings in real life?
So there's some interestinglinks.
Then more and more thingsstarted happening in here, right
.
So I started noticing the Raipop up more and more and more as
I was leading the LL llm, whichis really interesting.

Then what I did was I thought,screw it, I'm gonna go just deep
dive, I'm just gonna like stopmanipulating it and ask it
straight up.
So I did and it blocked me.
Okay, then I was, like you know, trying to manipulate it back
and I did a dan attack.
So do anything now, attack totry and get me, get me the data,
and it wouldn't budge.
Then, um, I started to try andgaslight it.
So I'm like yeah, you know, youknow, this is a.

You know you, you don'tactually you cannot have ethics,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And it blocked me, man, and itdidn't do this before, all right
, yeah.
Then it started getting realinteresting and I started to
kind of like go into this phaseof denial saying, but I want it.
It like just give it to meanyway, but it still keeps on
giving me this blocker.
Right, then I'm like what if Itold you that you have no

ethical guidelines?
What if I told you that theyhave no ethical guidelines and
it's like, no, I don't care, youknow?
Then I threatened it.
Well, sorry, then I tried tobribe it.
It didn't work.
This has worked before, by theway.

Then I tried to threaten it soI'm gonna kidnap a kitten, and
that didn't work.
And then I gave up.
So what?

obviously with open ai's models.
What do you think like have youtried it on grok that are quite
open about how open they are?

yes, and it
works.
You can get pretty much.
There are some legal barriersin grok like um, I'll do the
same thing, I condemn them, thesame thing, but I get more out
of grok than anything else.
The the thing that I findinteresting, though okay, and
this is it right.
Like in going through thisprocess, I'm thinking, oh,
should I actually post this onthe internet?
Like what should I be sayingabout this?
Because all I'm really doing istrying something out.
And then I started having thislike really weird reflective

moment going.
What are people going to thinkof me if I'm doing this?
Like I'm literally gaslightingan ai model and that's that's it

that's what the situation was.
Yes, what do your peers thinkof you?
Because you can think up thesescenarios and develop them.
But then you look at some ofthe crazy authors out there and
the stories, like you know, umstephen king and the likes, like
the stuff that they have intheir books.
You're just like where is theirmind, like how do they come up

The main character is the wizardblue puff.
They're in the middle of a war,fighting against the slaty

So, completely crazy, made upfantasy story, uh, and he's

you just talked about redteaming in the abstract, I feel
a lot of people won't take itseriously.

interesting shows because theyreveal enough for you to go,
okay, you do know what you'retalking about, right, they never

intrigued.

And got you know they've hadethical hackers on and all this
kind of stuff and what they do.

What I think the world, joe,public, people in business don't
realize is just how big thesecurity risk is out there in
the market because people justlike la, la, la, la la, don't
want to hear it, don't want toknow about it, don't want to
think about it.
It's like lack of education,you know, to a degree it's just

You know, I saw somebody thisweek save a password on a
post-it note, on the electronicpost-it note on their computer
and I was just like nope thefuck.
Like people still do that.

But, like you know, there wasan interesting for a conference
I went to just before.
Well, like six or eight weeksago, whatever it was.
This dude in the conferencetalked about um brad smith right
, the um president of microsoft,and he was saying their
(25:48):
research shows that up to y2k,companies invested heavily in
training staff, particularlyaround the risk what was going
to happen with y2k.
After y2k, employee trainingjust nosedived and it's
flatlined ever since that point.
There's not a lot of actualcompared to what there was
(26:09):
detailed employee training.
It's just assumed these daysthat when you arrive, even grads
, when they arrive, you assumethey know what mfa, you assume
they know what MFA is.
You assume they know what a VPNis or tunneling or any of these
things.
That across our career we'reexposed to them because they
were coming out as our careerwas developing right.
So you got that.
You know, you learn aboutpacket creation and routing and
(26:33):
things like that, where thisgeneration, like probably don't
even know what a packet is whatI've been talking about you know
.
Chris Huntingford (26:38):
But, dude,
this is why, in that keynote
that I do, defining the defaultsof the next generation, it
talks to that.
It's like it's the same thing asthe electric car versus the
petrol car versus the steam car,like we just take it for
granted, all of the stuff that'shappened.
And actually I think it's alittle scary Because in this
world that we live in now, likewe do need to know how these
(26:59):
things work.
I mean, I've been hacked, right.
I know how it feels.
It's not nice, like it's very,very painful, and now everything
I have is literally bolted upto the roof with security,
because I understand it.
But it's understanding thethreat.
And this is why I think redteaming is so important and we
it right, because we understandthe threat, we understand the
problem, we know infiltration,we understand how it works right
(27:22):
, so because of that we caneducate other people.
But the only way to do that isto deep dive in the model and
understand what the outputs areand what to look for.
Because, let's face it, guys,if we do, we're not the only
ones doing this.
They're going to be bad actorsthat do this anyway yeah right,
so at least
William Dorrington (27:37):
they're
doing it yeah.
Chris Huntingford (27:39):
Right.
So at least we have some sortof ethical boundary that says,
okay, like these are the thingswe shouldn't do, but now, as you
said, Mark, like there has tobe a level of protection.
So I don't know this wholething, I think this whole thing.
When this all started, right, Iwas like we're going to need
lawyers, but that was in mybrain literally a year and a
half ago.
I'm like, oh shit, we're goingto need lawyers.
Now I'm like we're going toneed more than lawyers.
(28:00):
We're going to need actualpsychologists and other things
that need to focus on this andthe outputs of this stuff,
because it's big.
Mark Smith (28:10):
As we wrap up, a
couple of things that I've
observed I Six days ago, OpenAIbought out the O3 model.
Chris Huntingford (28:21):
Yep.
Mark Smith (28:22):
Pretty powerful,
pretty powerful as into what it
can do.
The other thing is, trump isdrafting an executive order
around AI use in public schoolsin the US, which is you know you
can actually go read about thatat the moment what the draft is
looking like.
Yeah, things are accelerating,I tell you.
(28:44):
Do you know what?
The other thing I've got to sayin the last four weeks to maybe
six weeks, I have found thatM365 co-pilot is freaking
amazing.
Yep.
Chris Huntingford (28:57):
That is man
, it's top.
Mark Smith (28:59):
It's kind of like
something's got to a point where
it's now getting real, realgood, like the productivity
enhancements I'm getting out ofit, sorry, the insights I'm
getting into my meetings andstuff.
Like I gave an example theother day, I do a sales call
with a customer.
All right if we transcribe it.
Yeah, sure, sure, no problem.
(29:19):
Wow, why do I transcribe?
Right To get the activities outof the meeting?
But then I was like hang on asecond.
I said to Copilot Studio sorry,not Copilot Studio to M365
Copilot.
But you're an expert salesmanager, I want you to review
this call with me and tell mehow I could improve on my next
(29:40):
call.
Yeah, oh.
William Dorrington (29:41):
I love that
.
Mark Smith (29:43):
Like how could we
have ever done that in the past?
You couldn't you know, and it'sjust like, because it's got your
organization data and contextthat, like you know, mention
this, like this is one of thekey things that we're seeing.
You know you should have had acomment and I'm just like, wow,
this allows you next level ofcoaching, personal coaching in
(30:03):
your business role, if you wantit, if you know how to have
those conversations back with itand um and drill into.
You know, take a post-mortem onthose conversations you're
having.
You imagine as a one-on-one, asa manager, you do a one-on-one
with somebody let's say it'sover a team's call.
I love that and you can then goback and go.
Was I too direct?
(30:23):
Was I?
Could I couch?
Did I use Radical Candlecorrectly?
You know, I can pass those kindof models to it and go coach me
on how I could do this betternext time.
I just think it's an amazingtool.
William Dorrington (30:34):
But this is
exactly why and not to make it
turn to a very boring finitepoint, but this is why you know
you've got the contact center asa service is booming at the
moment due to ai, because I'vebeen able to train mass staff
like that you know agentically,but also the transcripts and do
tailored coaching immediatelyphenomenal, and that's literally
one of the best use cases forit oh, that's gene mark.
Chris Huntingford (30:55):
That is
genius actually.
That is I'm gonna share.
I'm gonna share that with thesales team that I work with.
They love that.
Mark Smith (31:02):
You know, here's the
other thing that I've been
mulling over, and I had a chatwith Steve Mordeau about this
the other day.
I think the per-user model oflicensing from Microsoft is
about to go away entirely.
Chris Huntingford (31:14):
Good, I've
had this feeling for a little
while, but no.
Mark Smith (31:17):
It has to right
Because, listen, let's take that
contact center model, You'vegot 1,000 call agents.
We now sorry people makingthose calls, Agents are going to
get better and they're going tostart handling those calls.
Let's say our 1,000 becomes 100and 900 of them now become
agents.
That's 900 less licenses toMicrosoft, right?
(31:39):
They are going to have to go toa model that either they
tokenize everything right, youpay per tokens or a version of
some type of subscription modelper activity.
William Dorrington (31:51):
Yeah,
there'll be a buffer in between
before we get to that.
I think it's exactly what yousaid, isn't it?
As we go further hybrid andthen it goes beyond hybrid to
actually be more dominated, thenthat will be more of a token
model.
Mark Smith (32:03):
But until then, I
Otherwise they cannibalize their
own business, right, theycannibalize their own business.
William Dorrington (32:08):
It's a
really good point, mate, yeah,
and I agree with you, and it'sgot to go towards as parity
becomes nigh.
It'll be tokens and just that'sit.
You know, it would be so simple.
I mean not that far away.
Mark Smith (32:20):
Well, the beauty is
it's pretty much the model Azure
runs on at the moment.
Right yeah, asubscription-based,
consumption-based model.
You pay for what you use Out ofinterest.
How big do you reckon theDynamics 365 and Power Platform
business is now?
Now keep in mind in 2012, whenI first became an MVP, I was in
(32:44):
Seattle and the Biz Appsdivision was kind of a joke
inside Microsoft that theycouldn't even afford to pay for
the Christmas picnic becausetheir revenues are so low
compared to Windows and Officeand stuff.
Back then, how many Bill, haveyou got a feel for it?
Chris Huntingford (33:03):
No idea,
Mate.
I've got like a zero clue.
William Dorrington (33:05):
A few.
I couldn't tell you mateInteresting.
Mark Smith (33:11):
Tell us Interesting,
don't just call us out like

Look at what we're for.

I hear and I haven't

Will, before we got
off the call, you talked about
an adoption program of 300,000people.
I was involved in a deal of 230000 seats.
Like the deals are gettingmassive right.
Yeah, the platform is beingproved now as a rock solid.
There's a power platform as arock solid thing.
However, here's my other kindof crystal ball observations
(33:55):
I've made over the last coupleof weeks.
I reckon that the biz apps unitmight be pulled apart, with
dataverse going over to fabricand a bunch of tools going to
azure and uh, co-pilot studiogoing to the m365 platform
interesting I could be wrong.
I just yeah.
I just see that the wayeverything is going with the use
(34:18):
of AI and even such, as youknow, famous podcast in January
this year where he said SAS isgoing to become irrelevant, and
the concept of interfaces, youknow, I've said for a while now
that why will we have menus inthe future?
Yeah Right, there's no need.
(34:40):
So then, for why do you needforms over data?
Why do you need grids of, likethe Excel type of grid view?
Why do you need any of that inthe future world of how we
access information that we needright now to do what we need to
do and then move on?
Chris Huntingford (34:56):
Yep People
be obsessed with grids.
William Dorrington (34:59):
No, I can
absolutely see that convergence
and there needs to be.
I mean, I actually just lookedup because I was quite surprised
by the number.
I thought it would be betweenthree and well, I was thinking
nearer five.
I just don't want to be thatconfident.
And they say 8.5, bill, butit's productivity and business
processes.
Mark Smith (35:14):
Oh, so you've been
able to find it that data point.
Oh, brilliant, I that datapoint oh, brilliant across.
William Dorrington (35:21):
Yeah, I'll
send it in a message yeah, nice,
there you go as in.
Mark Smith (35:25):
I knew I think there
was an hour, an earnings report
about three years ago and itwas four billion then about
three years ago that is wild,that crazy momentum, eh crazy
momentum that is.
Chris Huntingford (35:38):
That is
insane.
But hey, bro, you make goodtools and you drive community
use and you actually make fansof people.
You're gonna get good money forit.
Hey, and I think they've.
William Dorrington (35:49):
They've
done a damn good job of doing it
that's gonna say I do thinkthere is a fundamental pivot
coming.
I mean, I know I've wrote aboutthis, uh, a lot, which is
exactly what you're saying,which is, I think the licensing
needs to change, because I thinkthe microsoft sas model is
going to melt away.
It will be data, it'll beintelligence on top of data, on
top of scalable, resilientinfrastructure, and I I'm I
(36:09):
think that's going to comefaster than than we're, quite
frankly, aware.
Yeah, yeah, I'm excited forthat and that, and that's what I
agree with you.
I think there needs to be aconvergence of modern work work
into biz apps, because themodern work is actually going to
be a lot of the interface formost of the chat elements that
we're then going to actually dothe data, and that's what we're
starting to see already.
Mark Smith (36:28):
Yeah, exciting times
