Det var sommer, og to familier fra Næstved ledte efter et godt sted at campere. Gruppen kørte rundt langs Vesterhavet og endte på en nedlagt campingplads i et øde militærområde, som den ene kvinde havde besøgt før. Mens hun undersøgte, om der stadig var vand på pladsen, gik resten af flokken rundt for at se nærmere på stedet, da de pludselig stødte på en mærkelig fordybning i jorden. Lidt efter blev de ramt af en fæl stank. Der måtte ligge et dødt dyr nede i hullet. Gruppen valgte at køre videre til en anden campingplads, men over morgenmaden næste dag kom de til at tale om det ubehagelige fund. Hvorfor havde der ikke været pels på det dyr, de havde kunne skimte i den overfladiske grav? De kørte tilbage og begyndte at fjerne jord med en børneskovl.
