Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World is the web's original modcast celebrating the music of the mod lifestyle, as well as mod-influenced music from past eras. You'll hear everything from power pop to rock, soul to ska, acid jazz to lounge, and whatever falls in between. One of the things which has impressed me most in life was the mod movement in England, which was an incredible, youthful thing." -- Pete Townshend, The Who, 1968 Catalogued here are the sights and sounds of mod as I understand it. Much will be familiar to other mods. I realize many narrow-minded people, mods and others, will look at much of this and dismiss it as not truly "mod." So be it. However you view it, I hope you enjoy exploring these sights and sounds as much as I did putting them together.
Another week, another great modcast coming your way. I'm, kicking off the show with an American 60s band that sounds almost more mod than the British mods of their day. The band is Powder and I included them this week in part because this coming Saturday I'm going to get to meet them when they play at the Studio 66 mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery here in Seattle, and lucky me I'm going to be the guest DJ.
Happy birthday to me, and to the modcast! Launched at the end of May in 2006 and here we are both still kicking 19 years later. Kick it with me and enjoy another episode packed with all new music from northern soul to power pop to garage punk and everything in between.

What can I say about the Small Faces that hasn't already been said? Not much honestly. I'm not a Small Faces junky. But I do love their music. In fact, in my earliest mod days I think I preferred them to The Who. It's been said that The Who was a band that became mods, but the Small Faces were mods who became a band. I was looking for some covers of Small Faces songs when I realized how few there really are out there. Com...

Good luck trying to get a definitive answer to what mod jazz is. It's like the famous comment by US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart when asked to define what obscenity is: "I know it when I see it." Well that's me with mod jazz folks, I know it when I hear it. Maybe soul jazz is a better shorthand term, this music certainly has a lot of soul to it. All I can do is play the music for you and let you be swept away by it...

All music, no annoying chatter! A way back when, every year I would crank it up at our annual holiday hootenannies. Then eventually posting the track list online, and generally spreading the cheer. And every year people would beg me to burn them a copy. I even burned dozens of CDs as Christmas gifts in 2000. Seems that people really dig it because of the wide variety of Christmas music; it's got everything from Combustible...
It wouldn't be the mod world without some serious snarling, fuzzy guitaring, drum smashing, maraca shaking, loud and snotty music. I've got all that and more lined up for you from the classics of the sixties, the revivalists of the 80s, and some brand new garage sounds.

Believe it or not there is more to life than punk rock. Than garage rock. Than power pop even. It's time we expand your musical horizons, extend your artistic consciousness beyond it's three chord boundaries. This week's show is gonna blow you away, and it's gonna get heavy on the acid. But not too heavy.
