Her tilbragte Elisabeth 24 år af sit liv, efter at hun som 18-årig blev lokket ned i kælderen og bedøvet af sin egen far. I begyndelsen var hun lænket til en seng. Senere lod han hende bevæge sig frit omkring på rummets få kvadratmeter, hvor sollys og frisk luft aldrig trængte ind. Gennem årene fødte hun syv børn alene i mørket. Hvordan kunne der gå så længe, før hun slap fri? Hvorfor blev hun ikke eftersøgt, da hun forsvandt? Og hvordan reagerede verden, da Josef Fritzls syge hemmelighed endelig blev afsløret?
