Hver eneste dag fylder du dine lunger med ilt ca. 20.000 gange. Men har du nogensinde spekuleret over, hvor denne livgivende gas egentlig stammer fra? At du har adgang til ilt, er ikke en tilfældighed. Det er nemlig et resultatet af en fascinerende proces, der foregår inde i plantecellerne – og i alger under vandet. Det, kaldes også for fotosyntese.
Man fristes næsten til at sige, at fotosyntesen er naturens magi. For planterne 'høster' nemlig solens energi til at producere den mad, vi alle er afhængige for at leve. Og som et restprodukt slipper de ilt ud i atmosfæren til alle os andre.
