Carl’s first teaching job was in 1974 in Hettinger, N.D., then went on to Wahpeton, N.D., in 1975 where he taught U.S. and World History, Sociology and Economics, and eventually moved to teach at Fargo North, all while teaching a variety of sports. Over the years, he became friends with Art Phillips, the owner of Video Arts Studio in Fargo, and eventually created a documentary on Little Rock Nine, as well as on Herman Stern and Detroit Lakes.
