Speaker 1 (00:03):
That's a great player.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
First game back for a long long time.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
They will get a field goal shot the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Now it's Clary call us a juncupper run up over
halfway fifteen inside their own half.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
My god, quick play the ball back for Clary, shot
for funny Tomatas.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
They're already.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Nath clari is.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Jeez, Nathan Clarrier is all of that.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Pedator rupts.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
That is a magic moment in season twenty twenty four.
Speaker 6 (00:56):
Welcome to an old three sixty year regulate from every
angle joining me again, dang, Let's bring the journey Australian
James Hooper and Michael Carrianas and we've got a big
game to start us off this Thursday. The last one
was an absolute crack and a thank Cleary with the
field goal against the Dolphins Thursday, six thirty pm live
on Fox League. And the Panthers at the moment, though, Dan,
(01:16):
there's a bit of.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Pressure on them for the first time every new season. Bro,
who would have thought a round what are we up to?
Round six, Round seven clay, round six, round six clash
and you feel like Pendri's kind of playing for this season.
I mean, I don't think it's that dramatic, but I
know others do. You might think that Dolphins I thought
would be better than one win. Now they got to
win last week. But the stakes already a bit. You've
(01:39):
got to love this Thursday night.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
The stakes a big two because of the the records
of past teams that have got five and one to
start the year, aren't.
Speaker 7 (01:48):
They You're not understarting it at all.
Speaker 8 (01:51):
Then no side has ever gone one and five and
then gone on to win the premiership. That's all the
way dating back to nine l eight. So there's a
lot on the for the Panthers. They get Dylan Edwards back,
that's a huge inclusion, but they need to find some mojo.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Mick.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, it's amazing to think we're sitting here even speculating
that the Panthers can be one and five to start
the season. I don't think it's panning stations yet for them,
right because they've still got so much class in that site.
They're going to have to do it the hard way.
And the thing is are they going to have the
energy to get them through this season? Because we've seen
at times in the last couple of years they've been
able to control their endpoints to the season because they
(02:26):
haven't been chasing wins anything like that, but they might
be doing that this year at the back end of
the year.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Fascinated how Ivan Cleary plays their Origin period because look,
I think we.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
All think they're going to cruise to the finals.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I know they've had their woes, but come on, twelve
thirteen wins, they're going to do that.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
But what does Ivan do during Origin.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Because he has had the buffer of wins on the
board and has been very, very keen to rest his players.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
And even with all the departures.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
He's going to have Cleary, he's going to have Yo,
he's going to have he's going to have Tole, he's
going to have Edwards all playing that Origin period and
he might not have the luxury to rest them in
between games.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I can't wait to see.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I'm loving that Penrith have this challenge because if they
were just if they were four and five and oh,
we've been there, done that, and I bet at some
point and you know this is a player they would
relish that this new challenge, this is a new challenge
for them.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
It is a new challenge and it is going to
be fascinating how they handle Origin We've spoken quite a
bit about their lack of depth there now and they
could cover that when Origin was on and even if
they didn't cover it, they were winning going into Origin
and it was next man up and they had confidence
and belief in their performance no matter who stepped into
that role. But it's very different now. Now have to
look at this now again we've got into the lab.
(03:48):
This is the Penrith exiles since twenty twenty. Now look
at the side that they've lost over the years. I
only stains May, Crichton, Tarruvera Burton, Lewite, Fisher, Harris, co
sow Len. You kick out Kate, will hop Good, May Sullivan,
Sam and Defeata Pinguy Junior. The list goes on surround
O the coach, even he's left. So like given the circumstances,
(04:13):
and this gets bigger every year because they've had to
cut continue to cut players because of salary cap reasons
and they're it's just like, finally it's taken its time.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
It's understandable, right, they've been up for so long.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
And as you mentioned, with all those players there there
was a safety blanket. If Nathan wasn't missing with they
had a guy called jer own law who could run
the show and take the pressure off the inexperience half
whoever was outside of him. And then I think that's
been the biggest issue. And you look at the way
that they've lost games this year, it's the fact that
they haven't been able to chase down points. They haven't
had to chase down as many points as they've had
(04:48):
it in the last couple of years. Even when they
weren't at their flu and best, they've been able to
find a way because they weren't chasing the twenty eight
points a game.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
They're leaking at the moment.
Speaker 8 (04:55):
If you line that side Nick that we just saw
earlier in the exiles up against this current side, I
think there's an argument that the Blake Silver all walked
out the door probably win that game. And it's not
just the exodus at NRL level, it's the tears below.
It's well, it's New South Wales Cup, Matt's ball and flag.
Rival sides have boonlock vultures just picking the absolute elite
(05:19):
talent out of Penis's nursery because everybody knows they've got
the biggest and the best, and it feels as though
this year is the season that it has really caught
up with them. You go back to twenty two, they
won every single great in the game, yet this year
they've missed the finals in a couple of those junior divisions.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
Great.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Do you think this clearly there's a talent situation here
that's caught up with them, no question. Do you think
desire is as strong as it was? We're seeing a
lot of mistackles.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
I think it's hard to maintain though, And every year
again when we've done the preview, we think, how can
they stay up?
Speaker 5 (05:53):
How can they have that desire to.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Turn up every week and put the performance as they
do in back to back seasons, not just back to
back weeks, and still have that desire to win another premiership.
And they always say, well, there's guys in our team
who have won ap premiership. We want them to experience that.
But how long can that last?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Tell me about the time, I don't go make it.
You know all about the old days, but dogs, So
two thousand and two, romping away with the salary cap.
Two thousand and three got closed, two thousand and four
you win it. What is two thousand and five like?
Because didn't the fall on a heap.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Yeah, we had a lot of injuries that year, which
was the real reason, because we still kept the majority
of our squad. But after five then they slowly slowly
lost players, you know, and that's hard. And then the
dogs still they were competitive. They got to a pre
lim at one point, I believe, but it's very hard.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
So the shock about Penrith is not that this is
happening now.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
It has taken this long for this to happen. It's
four premierships.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
We expected this last year, We expected this the year
before the year before that, because it's always happened. Until
the roosters a few years ago, no one could win
two in a row.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
And look at all the guys that were on the
screen that left. Major of them had their best seasons
in their final year, so they are able to lift
it to know there was an end point for him.
They don't really have that this year because the nucleus
of the side is contracted this year and beyond.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Yeah, I don't think this week's a season defining game
at all. But with Edwards back in, I think we'll
get a better indication of exactly where they really are
at and if it's a major concern or not.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Ivn't clearly.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
Just addressed the media in Brisbane with a bit to
say on prize recruit Blaze Telungey finally getting a start
in the halves.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Blaze at the six.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
He sort of resisted putting him there early.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
What makes you think he's ready for it now?
Speaker 9 (07:39):
Yeah, well, you know there's reasons for everything we do,
so I would say it's exciting. You know, we've got
a lot of hope for Blazer is a great kid,
very very talented, and you know he's going to be
a really good player.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
So but he's still very early in his journey.
Speaker 9 (07:54):
But it's exciting I think for our team, and I
might just be a little spark that you know that's
not going to that's consture.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
This one's been a bit of a mystery to me.
The Blakes a Lungey situation. I'll come to you. Blaze
signed from Paramount. Australian schoolboy, talked up as a half
five and as a five eight, very talented, only played
one game this year. The game he played, he come
off the bench after Cleary went off within ten minutes
with that head injury. They nearly won the game with
(08:23):
him on the field. He ran for nearly fifty meters,
made twenty something tackles, only missed one, come up with
a triassist, and it's his only game. Why have they
resisted playing him more often than what they had.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
It was a surprise after that performance because you thought
that he showed enough to be the potential halves partner
going forward for Nathan Cleary. But you know speaking to
people in and around Penrith, and you know he had
a delayed preseason because he was coming back from a
shoulder injury and they just thought that maybe the footy
education wasn't up to scratch for what they needed from
their offense and an understanding of the way that Penrith
(08:58):
wanted to play, so that because they play the same
structures in reserve grade, they thought it was best case
for him to go down and learn instead of being
thrown in the deep end.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
He marked his drome replacement.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
And be differently right, I think the best way that
learns in the.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
Top grade for one, but also he's got X factor
and he's got Cleary, Isaiao and Edwards in the spine
with him and Mitch Kenny, so he can go. He
doesn't have all the pressure on Him's actually got less pressure.
With those guys around him, he can make his mistakes
and learn from those mistakes.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
It's still the comparisons that are going to be there
to Jerome, right, So I think for sure there will
be natural comparisons right away. Comparison well compared to it.
Of course, there would be breath. Whenever someone replaces a
high profile play. The first thing is to go or
lor he have done in that situation, right, So I
think the ability to get him out of the sportlight
to allow him to learn his game a little. He's
still a kid, right, so instead of throwing him deep
(09:52):
end eighteen nineteen Hold.
Speaker 8 (09:54):
It's interesting though, because at the Eels we saw him
have a lot of success on the wing, so he's
a versatile player. I understand that Penrith brought him to
wear the six jumper, but if they were looking to
ease him in at an RL level on with Braith,
I think he's going to learn more and he's already
played enough NURL as it is with Paramatta.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Good enough, but he still is good enough, and.
Speaker 8 (10:16):
They've had injuries in those positions, their edges.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Opportunities, particularly in the last couple of weeks, not to
start the season in the last couple of weeks, and
particularly as you pointed upright, he looked really good against
the store and he looked like something that they were
lacking in terms of a free spirit with the footy.
That that is a bit of a running threat. So
I was surprised by it too. But that's the reason
why they're just taken it.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
I'm not crucifying, because everyone's got their reasons and everyone
four comps in row, so I'm not you know, but
it was a bit bizarre. It's good to get that
information as to why that.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Just quickly you said it was attack. He hadn't fitted that.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
I was done to hear that because it wasn't the
knock on the young kid at Paramatta good score tries.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Tackling was a problem.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
So it's just structure, really interesting, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Different they run different shapes, different structures to what has
been to come accustomed to.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
All Right, Tigers Trump Shane Richardson has threatened to walk
away from one of the club's spiritual homes if urgent
funding is not guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
The challenge we've got is a stadium.
Speaker 10 (11:17):
We've had long, lengthy discussions with the Enerrol with Kempbelltown
because unless it improves, it's a very simple thing. And
as I said before, I don't do trumpetan threats. We
won't play there. It's as simple as that because at
the moment it's not at a standard that's required to
be an NROL club, nerl a ground. And more importantly,
we can't grow a membership, we can't grow a fan base,
(11:39):
and we can't grow things without stadium being upgraded. We've
spoken to him about that. By the thirtieth of June,
we need to have signed off in a heads of agreement,
an agreement that they are able to upgrade it to
twenty two to twenty four thousand people for seating in
for the next three to five years.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Also that they have to twelve.
Speaker 10 (11:57):
Hundred and fifteen hundred corporates improving dressing rooms, women's facilities,
a whole range of different things that they need to
be locked in. At the end of the day, though,
the only thing we may not be able to do
is play out of Campbelltown. It's as simple as that.
But just over her knows we want to do it.
But if we can't do it, we do have a
plan B and we will enact the Plan B after
(12:17):
thirty to June, and it won't have a direct effect
on you as fans.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
Tiger's CEOs Stadium threat says that they won't play at
Campbelltown unless there's an upgrade.
Speaker 7 (12:29):
I believe who's ye one hundred percent.
Speaker 8 (12:31):
So look, Rich as a seasoned political crocodile, he understands
how the game works. We saw him do it with
like Art Oval last year. So he's basically trying to
get Campbelltown Council to come forward with between fifty and
one hundred million dollars to upgrade those facilities. I think
his Plan B that he did discuss but wouldn't tell
us exactly what it is, is Combank Stadium. So look,
(12:55):
it is going to be a polarizing issue because that's
southeastern or southwest corridor of Sydney is hugely important and
it's part of the Tiger's heartland. So if they don't
want to necessarily play games out there, I'm not sure
how it'll be receiving.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
A bit of a mess this one.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Forgive me for being skeptical. Right, there's what does one
hundred million get you. Penrith are redoing their stadium for
three hundred million and it looks like a cut and
paste of the old stadium, right, just a modern, fresh
coat of paint. What does one hundred million get?
Speaker 7 (13:30):
Does he chump change one hundred millions, not chump change.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
What it used to be.
Speaker 7 (13:35):
When's the last time you went to Campbelltown to the facility.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
I'll tell you not often hoops and you know why
because they don't play there often. I'll tell you when
they play their hoops, they play there in bad time
slots against down oftown teams, the Tigers.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
And this is will be Foreshane Richardson's time.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Every administration has treated Campbelltown like second class citizen?
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Is that because of the ground.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Though, like it hasn't been much better?
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Break I'm just asking, well, I'm not suggesting.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
And I know what you're saying, but you're not when
the comparisons like Eard, who's arguably worse than the Canterdown Stadium.
Speaker 8 (14:08):
Yeah, I disagree with second class citizens, just based on
that they play as many games there as they do
a likehut. If there's a knock on the Tigers previous
administration that's been how nomadic they've been in terms of
home grounds. He can't have three or four, which is
what they've had previously. I know what Richard's trying to do.
He told us last year he wanted players who are
in for the crocodile role and I'm.
Speaker 7 (14:28):
Going to fight.
Speaker 8 (14:29):
Well, that's what he's doing. He's going to war with
the politicians and he wants them to put their hand
in their pocket.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
And he played his hand. He showed his cards.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
I think it was on the James Game podcast last year,
and he followed through on that when he said we're
going to take games to the big stadiums.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Now, I fully understand his principle. There there's money there, venues.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
New South Wales are paying the Tigers as they pay
South as they pay Canterbury. So they got five games
out of their twelve at stadiums where they're being paid,
three at Combank, one at Ali Yards and then Magic Round.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
That only leaves seven games.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Campbelltown gets a Friday six pm game, a Sunday six fifteen.
Sunday six fifteen, there's a Friday eight pm game. That's okay,
that's one decent time slot. All the like hard games
a Sunday afternoon. Now, I love like card. I'm not
going to start I've already had one fight this week.
I'm not starting one with you because I love light
hard too.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
When you find.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
But don't, don't you start me break.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
You on start.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
But Campbelltown is where the Warriors get sent.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
It's where the out of town teams often gets sent
the Campell Campbelltown's had thirteen Sunday afternoon games in fifteen years. Okay,
where like art gets true to differently? Let's be honest.
I love like card again. I'll say it for the
fourth time because I'm about to whack it. Break is
(15:54):
the past, and Campbelltown seems to be a future that
the Tigers haven't realized for the twin twenty five years
that that club has been emerged.
Speaker 8 (16:02):
Okay, so Rich has realized it because he's added in
their strategic plan ever since he got the food under
the desk and he decided that he wanted to go
into the game.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
If he's legit, I hope this plan comes out because
nine games nine games a year there, there's.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
A few Let's get the crystal ball out and they
do upgrade Campbelltown.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Do they play more games there? Well, he said, do
you think that's realistically?
Speaker 4 (16:24):
I think that's what he I think he wants to
play all these games at the big stadium.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
It's for all with danger. Look at what's happening with
Penrith switching all there. I know they don't have a
choice at the moment, but moving those suburban fans to
those venues doesn't necessarily work.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Well. How are the Tigers fans for nothing.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
To like it? They're not going to like it an FD.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Going to Campbelltown if that's where they played the majority
of their games, or is it just going to be Yeah,
I'm saying it's.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
Going to divide people.
Speaker 8 (16:49):
It's going to split people for sure, no question. But look,
Tiger's fans are accustomed to going to go through tough
times in recent seasons, so they're coming off three spoons.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Campbell Handles, it's a home ground, it's the big stadiums.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
I think the issue game.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
All right, Now, let's get to the foot.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
Lewie was out last week due to suspension, but a
few murmurs that he's not fit for the game against
the Knights.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Will he play Woney? Do we know anything about this?
Speaker 8 (17:15):
They trained today the Tigers and he did have that
shoulder heavily strapped. But I think he's Okay, I do
think that he will line up. Obviously, that's big Caliday
for the suspension, but I think he's back.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
Bro. I think that's big for them.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
You know, if you look at the game, it's already
a tricky one to pick Leuille plays I kind of
lead towards the Tigers winning this one.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
So it's a beiginn if he does play, hopefully for them.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
They were concerns initially regarding that shoulder, but the Skins
came back last week as positive as they could be.
So be interesting to see how long he can get through.
It's the one that he dislocated. Don't forget playing for
Penrith the company years ago.
Speaker 6 (17:47):
How important is this game for the Tigers that they've
had the good run and then you know, dropped off
a little bit. How important is this one against the
Knights who are really struggling at the moment, although it
is away from home.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Well, the Knights have won something like eleven straight Sunday
Afternoon's up there, right, is that right? It's a crazy
stat somewhere in that vein. But you've seen their squad
for this week. It is bare bands. They couldn't even
name a full twenty two. You've got Coggan missing, so
I FEEDI missing. There's another key playing, Adam Elliott. If
I don't want to say if the Tigers are feed
(18:19):
think and they have to win, but they now go
they should compete and this should be at worst a
very close Ye're saying they should win. No, I'm not
saying they should win.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
They don't know. They haven't got to the winning habit break.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
That's my point.
Speaker 8 (18:34):
I thought as much as they were beaten by Brisbane,
and you can never say a side that gets forty
plus put on them, you can never say there's too
many positives in that opening half. If they kick goals,
agree potentially it could have been eight and six at
one point. Then the Bronco score just before half time,
Adam Reynolds kicks a two point field goal forty twenty.
No Luayle or Galvin showed really positive signs. I love
(18:56):
what their forward pack is building with the combination of
Terrell May and Fan Ballet. Fath has punched above his weight.
I don't think it's all doom and glow.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
They win this week. I've got to winning.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
We've spoken about the importance of Penrith.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I think it's more important for the Tigers this week
to get the win because you know there's been a
feel good vibe around the joint at the moment. But
you know they lost a Newcastle earlier this season, they
lost to the Warriors two games they thought they should
have won.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
They can't drop this one.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
Okay, you have it meet Now, what's going on with
Jamal Fog is that the Raiders at the moment, he's
got that clause, but heavy rumors. You wrote the story
today that he's going to sign it to you deal
with men.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Well, not that he's going to sign it to put
a two year offer to him. Next week, most likely
he will end up at Manly. What's going to happen here?
Speaker 5 (19:42):
So he's going to sign there are most likely he's
going to land there.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Well, you said he's going.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
Yourself.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I've got to talk to him next week because at
them you're not allowed to talk.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
We follow the rules.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
I remember until this weekend to take up their option
worth around seven hundred thousand dollars for twelve months for Jamal.
They want to keep him for twelve months, but they
understand that if he gets a multi year deal elsewhere.
They're not going to hold him to that, so they're
not going to take up that option, which allowed Jamal
to go test the market, and the market will be
next week that mainly come in with a two year
deal worth about a million dollars.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
So they deal is done thanks Mi Fagui and Brooks
together they're going to be the combination. It looks like
for next year. Who plays six, who plays seven? It's
just seven books at six. How do we see this combinations?
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Well, I think we've seen in the past that Luke
Brooks needs someone that can organize the side. He's at
his best and he's been at his best at Manly
with a bit of free spirit to run his strength
is his running game and let someone else make all
the crucial decisions. I think it's a combination that could
work with Tom I think it's one that could work.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
It's not as good as the DC.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
It's Luke Brooks combination right, but at this stage of
the year, I don't mind it.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
Even the cards that they've been dealt. I think it's
probably one of the better results that they can secure exactly.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
I mean, okay, people are going to it's a downgrade,
but who's better out there that's available right now for
next year.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
They tossed up possibly Adam Reynolds. They tossed up possibly
Hearing for and that was just so.
Speaker 11 (21:15):
That's not the Reynolds situation, I think mainly, I think
Manly had his name on a Li Brave, But I
don't think Adam's got a desire to come back there,
in to sitey.
Speaker 8 (21:26):
I think he's very settled up there with the BRONC goes.
If he can, his preference will be to remain at
Red Hill.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
I would have ruled out Kieran for and on a
second tier contract if that's the way it comes to.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
What's the second tier.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Well just coming and bottom thirty or it depending on
where his future maybe if he wants to finish off
at Manly, it may be a train and trial sort
of a part time contract.
Speaker 8 (21:43):
That's interesting because he got asked about it on Fox
only a couple of weeks ago when the story first broke,
and he was basically flat batting it, saying that happy
where I am?
Speaker 7 (21:53):
Who you know something there?
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I just said it could happen, okay.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Buzz was deeply concerned that Adam Reynolds may be squeezed
out of Red Hill. He wrote that in an article
on the weekend. I think someday it was. But you
think they may be able to keep him.
Speaker 7 (22:08):
More, well, I think they're mad if they don't.
Speaker 8 (22:10):
I think obviously they're going to have to make some
big decisions around how they balance it, and they'll have
to let players go in terms of the roster. But
for what he does, Like we saw on the weekend
against the West Tigers, I think he played forty four minutes,
but he was so influential on that contest.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
Even if you only get him Braith.
Speaker 8 (22:27):
So let's say he can only play twelve fifteen games
next season. I'd rather have him in that seven eight
and especially come the big end of season games than
not have him just available without him.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
He looks so happy and settled up there I heard.
You know, he loves where he lives. His family love it.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
You know.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
I think he'd be willing.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
To probably take a bit of a haircut.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
To stay there. I mean, not his manager, of course,
but you know, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
I can't see him leaving there. I think they they'll
find a way. I think they'll find a way. Yeah,
I'm with you.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
If you watch that two point field goal and then
the chip and chase trial. We haven't seen that sort
of thing from him for.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
A number of years. That were shades of Alfie Langers.
Speaker 8 (23:07):
So on with you. I think he's very settled. I
think his family's happy. I think what we saw over
the weekend was just a little bit of pressure from
the Reynolds camp to let everybody know that he does
want to play on. Don't forget the headache and the
balancing act for the Broncos. They've got Azraelman to come
back into this side. But they did tell Ben Hunt
(23:28):
when they signed, well it's not but in terms of
salary cap, you've got to be able to fit everybody in.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
If he wants another to.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
A year, maybe you know a little less than what
you know you would probably offer him otherwise and then
put him on the as a coach when he retires
and give him a life after footy up there in
Brisbane if he loves it so much.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
On the how old is Renald's thirty five?
Speaker 5 (23:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
A one year deal is not unreasonable, but players at
that age like to get too.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
D C is an example. He wants two years.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Reynolds started to miss a few games, only played thirteen
last year. We're not going to miss any this year,
it looks like at this point, but I don't think
one is unreasonable.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
It's going to be up to him if he's like DC,
he wants more than one and it changes the whole
landscape of this and.
Speaker 8 (24:15):
Are going to be happy to just go with a
twelve month option at this point in time.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
All right now, respected former players Dean Winners and Bow
Champion have outlined their desire for an Australian Indigenous team
to compete on the international stage.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Take a lotok.
Speaker 12 (24:30):
We don't have a platform for our indigenous players to
play at a higher representative level. And we saw last
year at the World Cup in the men's Cody Walker,
Latrell Mitchell josh Ada Cup. We need to find a
platform for our players to perform at the highest level.
I keep pushing the barrow of the Pacific Cup. I
think that we should have a team in the Pacific
Cup men's and women's that play and I guarantee you
we will bring a lot of flavor, will bring a
(24:51):
lot of challenges out to those top teams in it.
Speaker 13 (24:53):
It will make it a better proc because as we
see with that Pacific Cup, you've probably got two maybe
three teams. You throw an indigenous team into the mix there,
I guarantee you it's going to create a full team
that's going to be really competitive, if not win that.
If they're performing at that level, then they maybe look
and say, look, look how good they played the Pacific Cup.
We'll keep an item for original or look to push
(25:14):
them in that representative space.
Speaker 6 (25:16):
Kangaroos coach Meninga has responded on calls for this indigenous team.
For me, there is no reason why we can't celebrate
our history and our heritage, but at some stage we
have got to make a decision.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Are we Australians first?
Speaker 6 (25:32):
That doesn't disrespect First Nations people because they play a
really important part in our history but also a really important.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Part in our game.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
You know, I have got you know, I've got an
Australian South Sea Islander background, but all my cousins are
First Nations people's. But I take the view that we
are Australians first.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
So obviously last night, these two indigenous ex players have
come out and said that there could be a possibility
of having an Aboriginal team thoughts.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
I don't like it. I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
I think Mal sums it up beautifully, particularly this last line.
But I take the view that we're Australians first, and
that's the way I look at it. I'd hate to
see a time when we have an Indigenous side playing
against an Australian side, because they should all be under
that one banner. The opportunity to showcase themselves obviously happens
week to week in the NRL, and of course the
All Stars Game, which is such a big concept which
(26:26):
has just grown in the game.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
So yeah, I don't like it at all.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Can't work, broth can't work because what happens the initial
idea actually I find intriguing. Right, So we've got this
year the opportunity to do it because Australia is off
to the UK, which means they're not part of the
Pacific Championship, and you've gotta have some O Tongue and
New Zealand indigenous.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Interesting.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
I think that's you'd get some really good quality footy
out of that. What does Latrell Mitchell do now, He's
either going to be he's in a nine win situation
if he picks the Indigenous side. He says, I'm going
to play for us, and now he's on Australia and
he's going to get hammered.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
And if he.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Picks Australia, because that should come first. Now doing something
against these people, it can't possibly And what happens if
it does work and we go to a World Cup?
What does Australia play Indigenous is When Australia played Australia
Rayan cricket, it was a disaster.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
You can't have it.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
What do you think?
Speaker 8 (27:20):
Oh, look, I can understand why Indigenous players might want
to discuss it and air it on a platform and
have people have a look at it. But I think
Mail and it was a great work by Paul Crawley
to get straight to Mail and ask him for his
take on it. Mail's the best qualified to speak about
it as the current Australian coach. And to me, you
(27:41):
look at all the champion Indigenous players that have worn
the green and gold Arthur boots and was the first
Indigenous Australian captain in any sport all the way back
in nineteen seventy. That's more than fifty years ago. There's
so much history and there's so much heritage already in
that jump of the locks of Gordon Tallis, Steve Ranoff,
Greg England, Jonathan Thurston, They've all proudly worn that jumper.
(28:03):
I know firsthand how hard Melmenting works on celebrating not
just indigenous cultures but all cultures, because everybody comes from
different background inside the Green and Gold dressing room, and
I know how hard Mal works in that space to
make everybody feel welcome, united and together. So I think
it's a tricky one.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Yeah, I understand.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
I understand, and I understand why those players would want
to do that and represent their culture and the heritage,
just like the Samoans and Vgians and everyone. Right at
the moment, the concern for me would be it just
doesn't feel right Australia playing verse an Aboriginal team. It's
sort of you know, with the Combati sport and in
any code anywhere around the world, when you get to
(28:47):
a high level, it's us first then, you know, And
I don't think it should be us first. Then I
think it's it can cause divide and division, and I
don't think it's it's really yeah, I don't think it
like I don't the potential of that you.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Can't have the potential of one of those parties. The
Australian team was the Indigenous team being booed on Australian soil,
and that that helps nobody in saying that can't work.
But it's interesting thought idea because they'd put the cloners
through some will when they made Scotland employees France ployees.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
I mean you imagine what the Indigenous sort to do
to some of those.
Speaker 5 (29:21):
They'd be a great team. It'd be a great team.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
But I think Roamin Ingle was handled well and like
who said, he's probably the best to speak to it
out of any of us.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
So yeah, there you have it.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
Okay, Robot is backing Savala at half back. If that
doesn't work, though, what is next?
Speaker 8 (29:37):
Well, I think what's next is they've got a young kid,
he's still on the nine one years of age, Toby Rodwell,
and they've signed him through until the end of twenty
twenty eight. Recently, let's give Savala first crack. I don't
think they can go back to Chad Town's end again.
I think they bought Chad as a backup. He was
forced into a situation unexpectedly in the opening rounds, so I.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
Think if this doesn't work, which everyone's hoping he does,
you don't think they'll go back to Town's end it all.
Speaker 8 (30:07):
I'd be surprised if they did break. I feel as
though he got the opening five games of the season
mixed results. I know there was a lot of criticism
around the fact that Chad wasn't running the football as
much as what the russ probably expected. So I'd be
surprised if they went back there with hoops.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
I think unless he's brain in it in reserve grade,
or there's a catastrophe in the halves there, I think
it's very difficult to go back to Chad after the
first five weeks of the season.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
While we're here, you'd like to launch an impassionate defensive
Brent Reid's.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Argument definitely not in passion, but I get where he
was coming from. If so, there's been mixed reports right
suggestions that Sam Walker could be back as early as
round twelve. He's background twelve. I'm not icing him on
the season for the season. If it's round twenty one,
twenty two and they're not in contention, then it's different.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
So I can see.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
But the problem here, it's not to be around twenty
one or twenty two. You wouldn't think so it's not
you know it's round twelve. Is it the nine month mark?
So maybe it might be round fourteen fifteen.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Then he's playing exactly, So why.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
Are we even discussing it? Then?
Speaker 6 (31:14):
Why is really talking about this? If really the likelihood
is he's going to be back between round twelve and fifteen.
Speaker 8 (31:21):
That's what I felt for mister Peabody on Monday night
the spectacles were fogging up and Blake's hammering.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
He gave a good account reverse he's getting.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
A reverse six wide without.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Very quick.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Someone was in his ear.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
They don't want Sam coming back in that's well, that's
going to be the story.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
That's going to be.
Speaker 8 (31:43):
Thing is that might be the yarn den In all likelihood,
you're probably right, but I just don't see how that's
going to happen. The Roosters have got their own medical
staff and high performance people. If Sam Walker is ready
to go by a round fifteen, well he'll be returning
because he's been paid nine hundred and fifty grands.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
Ever looked is you know, if you're the coach Robbo
and his high pressure job, you can be sacked at
any stage. Oh, let's just put the me dollar player.
We'll finish last and I could get the chot. But okay,
you know like it's not reality, it's not reality. It's
crazy anyway, Jonas, can you player matchups?
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Brought to you by Ozzie broad Band. What do we got?
Speaker 8 (32:26):
One of the games of the round is the Storm
and the Warriors, And I'm saying the new young gun
in the front row Stefano up against the old Susan
Ball James Fisher Harris.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Yeah, mine is a battle of the half Latrell Mitchell
at number six for South Sinney up against Tom Tom
did and for North.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
That's a good one. Need to have been outstanding. Thank
you very much and see you next time.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
He's Sunday from midday, the most important fight in austral
Alice Volkanofski's career. He's legacy defining shot at the usc
world title. Is live and exclusive my main event Fox League.
Shawn's Johnson is in Miami for the fight.
Speaker 14 (32:59):
Thanks brace here with the great Alexander Volkanovski and mister Worldwide,
mister Miami myself. Yeah, hey, Vault five days out from
the fight, give our audience at home and insights exactly
where you're aut and how you're feeling.
Speaker 15 (33:11):
Yeah, in Miami UFC three fourteen this weekend, Maine event.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Cannot wait.
Speaker 15 (33:16):
Training very hard. Obviously lost my belt last year and
I'm getting it back this weekend, and you don't want
to miss it.
Speaker 14 (33:22):
Don't want to miss it. Talk to me about family
life away from camp. Well, I know you see your
always training balance. You look revitalized. But I must say
you look really good. So really sent keen to see
you go around. How's things at home? How's the family
I made?
Speaker 5 (33:34):
It's been great, you know.
Speaker 15 (33:35):
You know that break I had was a lot of
plenty of a family time and a bit of growth
on myself, you know, so that was good.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
But then I was able to get back.
Speaker 15 (33:45):
Into camp and you know, get the intensity and you
know that fighter's identity or whatever you want to call it.
Had to split that switch and I did a great job, mate,
like I was firing through camp.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
So we're in good condition.
Speaker 14 (33:57):
Love it down the barrel, Let out of yours at home.
No where they can get the fight this weekend.
Speaker 15 (34:02):
Oh you can get it, Ko, you can get it
a pay per view main event. You don't want to
miss it. I'm getting the belt back.
Speaker 5 (34:08):
I'll see you when i'm back.
Speaker 14 (34:09):
Let's go, let's go, baby, m hm
