Speaker 1 (00:11):
Welcome to thirty sixty Rugby League from every angle, brought
to you by Regain joining me again the Great Gordon Tallow,
stan Ganaine and Michael Carrianas and breaking news tonight, the
Roosters are weighing up Victor Radley's future at the club
following an alleged text message exchange that was revealed in
relation to an alleged drugs charge against Brendan Smith.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Mick, what have you got for us on this?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Ray, It's an interesting development over the last forty eight hours. Obviously,
these text messages have come to light. And look, it's
my understanding that the Rooster's hierarchy are of the belief
that Victor probably didn't disclose everything that occurred a couple
of weeks ago when the story originally broke, And there
(00:54):
is definitely rumblings within the Rooster's camp that Victor Radley
may have played his last game for them.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
So they spoke to Victor a few about this, and
these messages are a surprise to them.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
I think some of the content is definitely yeah, I
think some of the content has definitely caught some of
the Roosters off guard. Some of the Rooster's management and look,
I think you'll find that Victor Radley's probably played his
last game at the Roosters and whether or not they'll
have calls to sack him, he's.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Well, that's the point, that's the point, right Dan.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
But because he hasn't actually done anything wrong, he doesn't
look like he's going to be charged by Queensland Police
for whatever possession or supply.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
It doesn't.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
It's just collateral damage in this whole thing. So do
they actually have legal agents?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
No, probably not, probably not.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
That's why I didn't use the word sack, right because
I feel like there will be a parting of the
ways between the Roosters and Radley. They'll work out some
sort of agreement or arrangement or whatever how it plays out.
But I don't think, you know, there's definitely a push
from within the Rooster's ranks the Radley won't play the club.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
He want have to pick the digs the heels in.
We can dig the hills in. He can.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
I did nothing wrong, he could potentially do that, He
could one hundred percent do that, and then it becomes
a legal fight, right Cordy, you.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Were pretty strong on what Nick's comments were. Yeah, well
do you think he stands by that. Well, it's really tough.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
I think Nick, in hindsight would probably wish that he
didn't do that interview, I think the way society is.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
But I'm glad he has made that stance for me.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
I love what Nick plydis does and I wish that
all the other clubs would probably go.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Down the same.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
But it sounds like he's backing it up. He's not
walking wa.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
He has to so from everything with the Daly Cherry
Evans I've shook Nick's hand a couple of times, but
from the Daly Cherry Evans deal, he's a man of
his word. Right where saying made is there a chance
everybody that knows Nick said no, No, he's a man
of his words. So if Nick said this, well he's
got to go with it. And he said that Trent
Robinson has the same view.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
How is all this information getting out? How is this
all getting out? These are this is evidence that Yeah,
But who's where's it leaking? Is it Cosily and Police
looking to win a pr battle? Is it someone else where?
I'm more fascinated with how we've got to this point, because,
(03:16):
as I said, Radily doesn't look like he's going to
be charged with anything?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Should they be leaked?
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Like we all know that, you know it's not the
best behavior's what's happening alleged, But should these like do
these sorts of exchanges get leaked?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Well all the time?
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Was it just if you're a professional athlete or someone
of his favor?
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Well, of course no one would care, what like if
they're not Victor Radley Brandon Smith?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
So why is that?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Well it's not okay, but this would get tended to
court anyway, So this would eventually become public. So it's
obviously been leaked in the lead up to the court case,
but once the statement of facts is delivered to the
court case, it's open slabber.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Okay, where do they sit?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
The rooster is here because they may I know we
touched on it before, they may want to move Victor
on What grounds do they have? Are the ROLPA involved?
Has anyone spoken to them? What possibilities could eventuate here?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Well, I think it's going to be very difficult to
as you guys have alluded to it, to sack him, right,
So I feel like there'll be an arrangement between Victor
and the roosters that you know, it's a it's a
club that he loves and they do love him, and
you know he's a local Junior one premierships there. But
I feel like it's it's probably the end of the
road for Victor.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
It's going to be hard to sack him because he
hasn't been charged. They're all accusations and claims. But you're
thinking more along the lines of another club comes in
manage the exit club comes and offers X. Then Nick
and the Roosters they pay the rest and they just
if he goes to South.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Is that a possibility.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
I don't think so, I don't. I don't think. Look,
it'd be a great story if it did break. I'm
just not sure he's the middle forward that they're looking
for in terms of size. Right, They've got Cam Murray
who's probably a similar player to Victor.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Rather.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I know he's played a little bit on the edge
this year, but he's does his best work in the
week he go.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I mean, I know this is further down the track
and we're pure speculation here, but if he leaves the Roosters,
where could he land.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well, he's you know, in the NRL, there's a range
of clubs that we're in for him, but you know,
he might draw off to the super League. He's played
for England, would encounter as a quota player, so could
land as a marquee player over there out of the
spotlight a little bit more earth. He's not twelve months,
He's not two months to wait though.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Okay, he'll find somewhere for twelve months, you'll find a landing.
Go to Catalan and or somewhere else and got to land.
There's a job there. He's still a good player.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Need to happen is that Nickolas has been away away
right here? Ris back tomorrow, Victor. At some point we
have to look nick and Niel. Yeah, that's what will
need to happen, and then we'll probably have an outcome
after him going to do about it. Well, nothing yet, Gordy, right,
because they've already said that we'll let the court process
play out, right, And you know, is this enough to
(05:58):
say that he's brought the game into disrepute? You know,
that's probably where he would get done for from the
UR perspective.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Potentially, what about the other six players that were there? Again,
it's all alleged, it's all claims. No one knows really
anything about what happened. Apart from the text messages that
we've seen, Will the Roosters cast their net wider here?
Could there be any other four guys?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Do we know?
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Well, unless someone falls on their own sword, I don't
see how unless someone puts their hand up and says, yes,
this is what I did. Because there's no evidence to
suggest that any of them have done, have taken anything,
even Victor Yeah, So there's no evidence of that at all.
So unless someone puts the hand up, I can't see
how there's wider ramifications for that Rooster's group.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Right before we move on, Victor Radley has not been
charged with anything and there's no suggestion whatsoever that he
obtained or took illegal drugs. Now more on this story
now in the Daily Telegraph and the Sydney Morning Herald
are reporting Queensland Police will we use an alleged text
exchange is part of evidence in relation to the alleged
betting charge against Brendan Smith.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Firstly, let's take a look. Now.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
These were the first messages on July fifth, from six
thirty five pm. Friend Day Let's Go shares a screenshot
of a two hundred and fifty dollars bet placed on
sports bet for Brendan Smith anytime triscorer odds eight dollars
fifty with potential return of two thousand, one hundred and
twenty five dollars. Smith then says eight dollars fifty. That's
(07:26):
effing crazy. Friend AY says, can I get a confirmation you.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Are run on?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Smith then says, I'm run on one hundred percent. Friend
Ay says, shares a screenshot sorry of a two hundred
dollars bet placed on sports bet for Brandon Smith first
tryscorer odds ninety one dollars a potential return of eighteen thousand,
two hundred dollars. Smith then replies, ha ha ha ha.
About an hour later, on the same day, at six
(07:55):
thirty seven pm, Smith texts a different friend, friend B,
bro on paying ninety one dollars for first tri score.
Friend B says, back it, question Mark Smith, I'm starting,
Friend B. I'll back it Smith, So it's not a
bad bet, Bra. Bet Sorry, Bra, ask friend A to
send you his bet eight dollars fifty anytime and ninety
(08:18):
one dollars sports bet. Think it's getting bobbed haha, Friend B,
I just went on, lads got fifty one dollars. I'm
feeling old. I don't understand a lot of that.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
Bob try reading it sports but had better odds than Ladbrokes.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
That's concerning, all right, because which part of its concerning
that last text is interesting almost directing people to place
those bets. Now, I went and did some research today
on and I'm not comparing the two, but I thought
it's that the most starkcase is Ryan ting Be the
(08:59):
late Roynten who was done for match fixing, a far
more serious case than what is being alleged here. What
he has been charged for. Brandon Smith is providing inside information.
Ryan Tandy was match fixing. Now Tandy, if you remember
the bet, the market was first point scores and North
(09:19):
Coinsland penalty ninety five percent of the It's a niche market,
and all of a sudden the ta got ninety five percent.
Ninety five percent of money was going on this march
on this particular bet Cowboys penalty. It raised red flags
and then, as it would go on to show, Tandy
gave away two pretty blatant penalties in the first few
(09:40):
minutes in front of the post. Problem was Cowboys tapped
and scored a try killed the bet, but the damage
was done, but the red flags went up.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
We had no information that the betting organizations have raised
those same red flags in this case. And he's only
been charged with inside information.
Speaker 6 (09:59):
This wrong tour, because that's a player saying back me,
are you going to score a try?
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (10:05):
If you're on the phone, right, text can always yeah right,
But if you're there, yeah mate, Oh god.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I'm paying.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
That's the first text on paying. Yeah, get on, I'm
paying ninety one.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
But I'm coming back text right. But the second text
is him instigating it. That's the problem.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Get on me, I'm going to.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Okay, what's the difference. Okay, what's the tell Chust through this?
What's the difference with this one compared to the first one?
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Well, the second one is the first one.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
There was a text before that as well, where they
asked if he was playing and he said, yeah, I
just got found out. I'm starting something along those lines.
I don't have any I don't have an issue with that,
right because that's male that we can get in our
everyday job, right that we do. But this one, he's
prompted this exchange. This is my concern. The second one
he's prompted, he's reached out to someone made note of
(10:53):
the fact that he's significant odds and that he's started.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
You can read all that. You can read that he's
paying ninety one. You can read that he can be
first tried.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
He did.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
But he's what was he saying? So the worst thing
he's saying is he's put it on. He's put it
on someone's radar.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
He's not starting.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
I think he was in the extended squad at that stage, right,
So I've got a problem with this one. The first
one I don't really have much of an issue with,
but to to bring it to someone's attention that hey,
look at these odds and by the way, I'm starting, Well,
here's a.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Question, right, So I used the Tandy example. He altered
the course of the game negatively for Cannabury. He's playing
for Canterbury, Brandon Smith.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
That's a positive.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
That's so I tend to agree.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
But I'm not sure the law or the NRL will
see it the same way. I don't know, but I'm
with you. There was a he had a dart from
dummy half he had to go.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
With the line.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Identified.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
But how many times have we seen Brandon Smith do
this in game.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
There's no red flags in his performance, no at all difference.
There's no red flags in that run whatsoever. Right, that's
not him an alarm bells. I don't think he altered
his performance based on that information. Right, that was the
right time to run, right, So I don't have an
issue with it. But it becomes murky. And this is
why players can't bet on games because it does it
can blur the lines of what could happen and what
(12:15):
can affect the sanctity of the sport.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
All right, before we move on, Brandon Smith lawyer has
told The Daily Telegraph there is no evidence that he's
client altered his game or attempted to impact that of
his teammates. Neither of the alleged bets placed on Smith
proved successful. Brandon Smith front's court tomorrow on alleged drug
and gambling charges.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
It's understood he'll plead not guilty.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Now let's get to.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
The bulldogs, and the dogs roll the dice on their
spine as Criston injury forces another reshuffle for this do
or die final.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
We had our take last night. Where how do you
guys see this?
Speaker 5 (12:50):
Well, firstly, there's no chance quite, I would have thought.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
So there's actually diving in that quickly if you heard
anything out of the dog.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I don't think he plays. I think he's certain he won't. Yeah,
is certain he won't play the doors of drive. If
they win, that is the potential to play next week.
But I think he's long odds to play this weekend?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Have you?
Speaker 2 (13:06):
With the changes?
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Wouldn't it be ironic if they worked out Toby Sexton?
Not they worked out Locky Galvin was a five eight
the whole het they worked out. He's not an organizer
and that the Sexton Galvin combination is actually a pretty
good one.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, you like it right? The combo?
Speaker 5 (13:21):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (13:23):
Absolutely? Burton out the centers. We saw Burton against Melbourne,
how dangerous he looked. He's a very good, hard to
put down center.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Yeah, he's all for mine, Like a lot of the
tension around Locker Galvin, but for mine, Matt Burton's a
world class center and he's a serviceable five eighth. Right,
I think he's I think he could be one of
the best centers in the game.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
So what happens if they win?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Then well, and but it's all right, how do they
all play?
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Of course right, So that's the hard thing to prea
I think all things being equal, they will go back
to the burdened Galvin Harves combination.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
If I think that's the way, they'll go back.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
To the right. Have you heard anything of that's your thought.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
That's my thoughts around it. Brush Cherry onto the wing.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
I don't think you can bring Sexton in after he's
coming off the bench last week, bring him in this week.
He gets the job done against Penrith and you remove
the half back out. It's tough what happens if they knock.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Out the full time premiers. It would have to be
such a good performance with all their injuries. I couldn't
imagine that lineup.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
They would have to be.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Brighton goes in.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Yes, ramification Bronzon Cherry is a very good player. I
mean we're going hypothetically into hypothetics. But if their halves
are that good to walk a straight to win over
Penrith in front of seventy thousand on a Sunday afternoon
and the dynasty, he's got to continue.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
But again to the wing, you would think, being such
a great runner played there all years.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I think again you go back to the halves.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
If they get it right in the key positions and
beat the four time premiers going for five straight, who
many have his favorites.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
You're not changing your spot.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
So where it happened, what happens to that Burton?
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Well, I think you leave him in the centers, depending
on how he plays. Again, like you said, if he
plays great and they combine them well, and you leave it,
you bring you've been Crichten in.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
That's for sure. Sherry would have to move.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
I'm not sure whether that's wing wherever that may be,
but that that's a problem that they'd probably love to
have to be honest. And then you've got problems with
the bench because it's Marny and it's it's Bailey.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
What do they do with that? Actually, Like do you
start with Marney?
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Because now I think if Criton doesn't play right, they
don't need to even consider whether Bailey or Marny or
whoever is the four guy here. Marney looks like his
name his name at seventeen. If you start him or not,
this is a big, big it's a hot topic.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
At the moment.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Well, I think he starts off the bench. I think
he starts off be Yes, I think that's what will happen.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
But what do you think should happen?
Speaker 3 (15:52):
He should start? Okay, so you'd rather rather him start.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
I think he's a guy that can set the tempo,
be in your face. They're going to need to run,
They're go need to change things up to beat Penrish.
So for mine, he starts, and this is Bailey is.
I think Balley is a really good player. I think
playing eighty minutes at a finals game is just a
little bit beyond him at the moment.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
So a.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Third an, I think he can do a good job
at nine. I think that, Yeah, just who's the right man?
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Finished tackles last week the most point any player this
season in any game.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
I haven't sat there and watched the tackles. How many
of them are effort chase kick chases as things like that?
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Right?
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Sometimes sometimes they can be Yeah, sometimes they can be deceiving.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Those I'd rather Bailey come on.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
You know, read to me is just start him, you know,
like you said, get up in their face, niggle, make
your tackles. He brings that physicality fit have an impact early.
Bailey comes on when the when the opposition are tiring
a little bit. He's got more footwork around the around
the rock. He's got a better passing game in terms
of going to the line and being a threatening attack.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I think it just makes sense.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
We can change the temple of the game. Reid can't
change temp over game.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Well, I think it's a chance of happening. And heard
anything out they're not really talking to us of the
main But Broth, that's.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Your old club.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
What about all the changes in such a big game.
It's the biggest game in that What.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Have they got to lose now, Gordy, you know they've
already they've already made all the changes, and you know,
I kind of I'm happy because I think they've made
the right ones, Whereas in the past I've questioned their changes,
you know, whereas this it's like, yeah, they may have
derailed the season a little bit and gone around in circles,
but they've realized they need a seven playing seven, and
I think that it's a good change.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
And I think they can beat Penrith. I just with Penrith.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Like I think Penrith if they hadn't won four comps
in a row and you look at their form and
their game against the Warriors, you're given the dogs a
redoat chance Like more than a red out chance, like
they're not going as well as.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
They have been.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
It's just that we expect them to go to that
next level. We know Nathan's going to be up for it,
we know what they can do at finals time, we
know how great they are.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
As a team.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
But if you actually take that away, which is hard
to I know you know the Dogs are a redout chance.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I love you the way you're talking.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Problem is Penrith now to win these games and Canterbury
don't yet. Canby know how to win these games yet
they might learn soon. But Pennice won thirteen finals in
a row and they've considered one hundred and twenty points
over those thirteen, right, So it's nine points a game.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
I know the Warriors game was closed.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
Look at some believable.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Working out again today, Dan.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
I bring someday, I'm bring leaping there.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
I bring something to the table that the cigar.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
Start on me.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
He've got his Wi Fi fixing.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Un start on me. You will get onto your show.
I said this that nine points concerted a game in
thirty straight. I haven't lost the finals since Week one
twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
You got them home and I will.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
There are certain people and certain teams you don't back against.
You aren't back against Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, and
you don't bet against me.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
They'll lose once one of these shoon, but the top
four is working there break.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Giving up on the top four is one of the
smartest moves any club has come up with in a
long long time. They could have it would have been in.
It would have been futile. Burn their players out the
last two games of the year. They rested against Canterbury.
They have got a dream. Let's be faired income right,
that was a dream to get the Warriors. I know
(19:21):
it was over there, but the Warriors have been fading
for some time. It's been unfortunate the way injuries have
kurtailed them. They get the Dogs who are also hit
hard with injuries. It's a pretty cruisy run that Penweth
have been gifted here and they will.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Fancy if they win.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
You know, they fancied their chances knocking off Brisbane in
a repeater of Magic Round where they smashed them on
a Sunday afternoon. Good point, so it couldn't be playing
out any better for Penrith.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Gordy does his research there, but just looking at the teams.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
The research is one thing.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
We know when you said if Penrith haven't won the
four coms, but you've got to give respect because they
have of course, and you just think that they've got
that gear to go to. You just think that they've
got a gear like once they got fresh they went
over to New Zealand and I think that's the best
the Warriors have.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Played in the last six weeks.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
But they still got the job done and they weren't
good and then now it's a bigger step up. As
you said, it's probably a sal out crowd. Dogs will
be going mad, but the dogs are a little bit underdone.
The dogs can win, but i'd have to be their
best performance of the.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
Feeling they're going to run them close. But you just
got to have.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Something.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
But I do see it. I see the dogs getting
real closer. They can bleat them, they can beat them.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
What do you think, Well, it's your point as well.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
It's probably reflected upon Melbourne as well when you go
you know, we're saying or that they're not there yet,
they're not the finished product because of what they've done
in the past. And I agree with you, Penrith aren't
anywhere near the side. Well they're not. They're not far off,
but they're not the side that won the cop last year, right,
And they'll probably need to get to that level to
be a really Canabis. I think they can and I
(21:01):
think they will, but they need to get to that
level to beat Cannabury.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
All right, Josh Papa says.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
The Raiders have addressed their failure to ice games as
they prepare for their Do or Die final against the Sharks.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
Obviously, there was a few, a few things we had
to address as a team. You know. We Yes, we
did lose that game, but we had so many opportunities
to win it, and we're being over those situations. Yeah,
it's just one of those things. In the heat of
the moment, we're just in each execute. Yeah, hopefully we're
not in that situation on Saturday. Yeah, that one hurt.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
And the big question is how does Ricky get these
young Raiders up physically and emotionally for this do or
Die game against the Sharks.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Well, it's come back to bottom, hasn't it. That they
asked for the Sunday game, and I think as number
one seed they should be at least listened to, and
they were, but now it means they've got a six
day prep. At least they're at home. I'll ask you
to what would be harder for Canberra getting up for
this game against the Cronulli side that they're playing well,
(22:05):
but now after that it's Melbourne in Melbourne. I suspect
this game here, getting up for this might be tougher
for them than going down to Melbourne in Melbourne, as
crazy as that seems.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
Well, Melbourne's the biggest challenge, but you've got to play
who's ever in front of you, so that's a challenge
for Ricky. So I think all their focus this week
would be that they will be ready. I think with
the sports science, that's one thing I always give it
the sports signers in our game, but the recovery, the
way they can back up. You think they'd get massage,
swim hot and cold and just walk through it. Even
(22:36):
if they walk through their moves through the week, but
it's mentally where they've got to be right. And I
would be showing them everything that they've done well older
clipped up now fifteen minutes of everything they've done well
this year and do you want to throw that out?
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Because if you do well, let's not go to play.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
The eventually got it as they're fit and they're fast,
and they're young. And if they're young, they've got short memories.
Speaker 7 (22:56):
You know.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
They don't hold too much scarring, you know, which is
a big thing is the old get the more scars
you carry because you've been through so many good and
bad moments.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
They just move on.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
They won that game three times.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
It's unheard of, President exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
What about we talk about big moments in public and
making sure they're prepared for this week. And one player
who has come under the microscope and we've spoken about
it on here is Jamal Fagan. He's missed a couple
of opportunities of late when he's needed to ice them.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
What do we think of this?
Speaker 1 (23:26):
And would Ricky be a little bit nervous this week
about he's half back?
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Yeah, well, there was a couple of big moments on
the weekend, that conversion attempt that we didn't think would
probably have a bearing on the game that he missed,
and then not getting himself into field goal territory at
the end there where they went the wrong way.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
So I don't think he'd be nervous about it.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Probably a little bit you think he's got an issue
with it of him not kicking them into.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Or because Ricky is like to as a half back.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
He knows what he's halfbacks need to do and he'd
be up because you know.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
What about it, You can't see it and it would
be an element of doubt. After the last few weeks
he got fortunately, he got fortunate. Mudgie.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
He had a couple of moments like this, missed an
easy kick, mucked up a field goal. He should have
kicked in it. But they got away with it in Mudget.
They didn't get away with it here.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
And you know, you know, break does.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Because you don't want to bag the bloke because it's
easy to like. But they are paid to win, to
put these games.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
The difference between the great ones, they don't carry the scars.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
They have short memories.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
It's like golfers, you know, Like you look at tigers,
all those golfers, they forget their last shot, you know,
And they're the greats. They're the greats of our game
and sport in general. But I know from you personal experience,
when you are scarred by big moments, you can carry
them and you try and get them out of your mind.
But at the end of the day, there's an element
of doubt until you nail it and you ice it
and you hit the mark and it exists.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Is it like poker where you play you lose a
big hand, you're on tilt, but then as soon as
you win the next one, you're okay.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
He's just got to do it once. He's just got
to do it just once.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
But just I think the setup like I'm not a
field guard expert, but there was no setup was wrong.
It was his last stough to oh over here, let's
do it, and there was no backup, Like he's five fullback, so.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
So he got it just quickly.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
You're supposed to as a right full kick out, you're
supposed to get to the left parts right then you've
got the markers chasing from the inside your right full kicker.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
It opens it up.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
They've actually gone to the right see here, this is
when he should have been taking the shop. But then
the off flow kills him and then they get to
the side like that.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
That that right there.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
They were setting up for it, but someone just got
a bit antsy, you know.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
And this was the other one.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
But you know, I'm sure Ricky would be he'd be
drilling them about it.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
And you don't want to take that out of Hudson's
game beaten people, but he needed to take that tackle.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Look at the spine that's on there at the moment.
What combined games would there be weeks?
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Strange?
Speaker 4 (25:47):
And yeah it's you, it's you know. They wouldn't have
fifty games combined.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
But you do do it in every grade, you know,
like these guys, I mean strangers.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Mann on his new South Wales scored four tries.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
I think, so it doesn't matter what greater and you
practice the field goal. But it's not just them. The
Broncos didn't didn't set up either. It happens all the
time these days. I see it more now than ever.
They they must train, Yeah, and I'm not saying justice.
I'm not saying trained for that one play.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
They would train for entire sets, wouldn't they.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
Where did we get to, like, and I think the
kickers would come up with it? Where did we get
to if we need a field goal? And then they
unlockie left food, they will, they will pick their spot
and you get to.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Let's have a quick hit on the Sharks.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
No one respects them, no one that's been the message
coming out of the.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
Due respect, Shark respect the stadium.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
I'm not a fan of No.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
We touched on it last time.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
You know, they had their backs up, the siege mentality,
and I actually like it. I said that, you know,
And he was outspoken Niko in the in the interview
he had yes, they believe or yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
And it's got a lot of a lot of people
talking about you.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
You damn.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
Well, it's all in good to the eighth place at
Shark Park. And that was a good win. That were
damn good on Saturday night, that last twenty minutes, the
way they controlled the game. They deserve to win Big
Camber and Canberra and you'll get your respect, you Burt
Camber and Canberra, and you get to a pre limb
where they can beat Brisbane. They almost did middle of
the year on a Sunday afternoon. But if they go
(27:30):
out the back door then I'm afraid they're not going
to get the respect that they're longing for. But they're
a big shot of winning this week, big shot.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
I don't mind them carrying a bit of chip on
their shoulder.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Good luck to They have been criticized right rightfully so
for mine because they haven't gone deep into a competition
since they won the camp, right, So I don't have
an issue with it, and they're right to carry it.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
If the fuels on under the can they win the
comp I've asked everyone this week.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
So they can't win the camp.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Change, well, they need an X factor. They need something
in the back line that can.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Create fullback who Yeah, Kennedy's the problem.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
He's not the problem, but he's if he sat down
and broke out that spine.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
That's why he's not resigned yet.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Right, if they had one of the other fullbacks in
this competition, I think they could win the comp.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
And he is a good player. Look, I like they
got a chip on their shoulder. They've been to this
spot for the last few years. They struggle against top
eight sides, so they need different motivation and I think
to put it all on themselves.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
I think their winger did.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
It last week, right, He caught out his opposition, right,
and he got over the top of them. Now the
whole side's taking a leaf out of them.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
He's there ex factor at the moment in the back line. Ronaldo,
there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
But I think he'll get sent to the sinding if
he celebrated.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Much rather, I know Ronaldo can rub people up the
wrong way. I would rather Ronaldo carry on the way
he does, then get the one week at a time
and bullshit. I would much rather the honesty of a player.
I love it, and we can't bag we're not doing it.
Hit but you cannot bag players for giving us cloches.
(29:12):
But then as soon as they actually say what they think,
hammered them.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
All right?
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Did the Rooster's Finals failure highlight the reason why Sam
Walker could do with DC next to him next year?
Speaker 5 (29:25):
What do you think of survival? Was the last few weeks?
Speaker 2 (29:28):
It wasn't. It wasn't very good.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
The kicking game was It seemed like they'd worked out
they got it if they rush up on him.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
The weekend's game wasn't. Ye.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Yeah, yeah, I feel like we know how erratic Sam
can be, right, and that's why he probably worked.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Best when as we look heary for a few years
as well.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
That that steady head, that's steady hand, and I think
that's what DC will bring if he does go to
the Roosters next year.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
I feel like he's developed.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
He's only twenty three right half backs, you know, halves
can be erratic.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Six, it doesn't matter, doesn't bother, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Yeah, you know, I just think with Sam, Sam's biggest
strength can be his biggest weakness. You know, the way
he plays can just be highlight reels and amazing and
setting up tries, and but can he find that balance
and pull it back and come up with a hYP
percentage playing semi final footy when his team needs it?
And the weekend highlighted that maybe he needs to change
(30:26):
his style in these games to a degree, not not not.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Change the way he plays.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
But you know, there was a few moments where I thought,
you know, that's just not the player.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
We've seen lots of great players be like that break,
Billy Slater, Benji Marshall, he's got fullback, he's yeah, but
he was getting his hands revolutionized, butuntant.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
He's the chief, Yes, But why DC will come in
and take it.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
I'm just I'm just more touching on Sam's game because
he's been brilliant all year and this was his worst
game of the year, right, And you know, there's a
few moments where I think he needs he hopefully learns
if we.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
Get to the point in one if DC is there
for one years or two years and then at the
end of that season he's still doing that, then I'll
be highly quit it.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Yeah yeah again, a bit of control composion experience in
DC will will probably free him up to do that
and get away with it as well. But on the
weekend with a young half, it wasn't always the right play.
Now tomorrow from twelve fifteen, you can watch the NRL
National Schoolboy Final between Petian Brothers, Blacktown and Keepra Park
High live en free on code sports dot com dot au.
(31:33):
Boys absolute superstars went to these schools. The girls are
on as well, but Keebra Park and Patrician Brothers like
doesn't get much better than that in terms of pedigree.
Stephen Crichney and players that played in that.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Penis so many school boys. It's been a great breeding ground.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
I remember watching you know, Benny Als and Brandy Alexander and.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Aimed coll that.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Hell yeah that is that Keeper Park. Okay, that's Keeper Park.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
I think David played with him in the side as well,
so they they didn't have problem scoring points that year.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Yeah, he's a Tiger's catching up in one of this one.
Oh god, nothing is nicely footwork super star, be great,
Benji all right, thank you very much. Boys then and
mek enjoy the footy on the weekend.
