Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to three sixty rugby League from every angle, joining
me for the second night in Narroo dan Ganaan. Let's
been the generators straight in Paul Crawley and Andrew Webster
and let's take a look at the ins and outs
around twenty one thanks to sports Bet and Sanin Smith
replaces Chad Townsend for the Roosters, Moses a big return.
Hawkins therefore moves to five eight for the Eels, for
(00:23):
sawmula aUI and for feeder out for the Titans with injuries.
Cleary and Yo return after being rested by the Panthers,
but the big One, Lewis died named at halfback for
the first.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Time this year.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
There is oh, he's the last man standing fast.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
We think the day would come true. It's been cheaky,
isn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
It's cheeky, but how they've handled him has been fascinating.
They clearly don't think he's good enough. But if they're
going to put him in the shop front, if they
want to get rid of him, if he's not going
to be part of the club, you might as well
try and get rid of him. You might have or
put him in the shop front window and see what
he's got in first grade.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
It's a bit sad, isn't it really? Like he would
have come over here with great expectations. He it's charity shielded.
It started in, didn't he he got singed? Was it sinbin?
At the end of the first half, Humphreys came on.
Humphreys owned the spot and it never ever changed throughout
the entire year. And now it's got to the stage
(01:24):
where it's become an albatross around souths Neck. And I
don't know how they go forward into this next year
because he's got two more years to run on a
contract and they've got to come to some resolution.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
It is sad for him, But what was Souse thinking
in signing him?
Speaker 5 (01:43):
That's a matter for South.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Look, all I can assume is that Phil Blake wasn't
available this weekend, so they couldn't They couldn't pick him.
Tuger Coleman, no tricky trendle like it is one of
the more bizarre.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
You know, recruitments really like it, Like it's not like
it's a small.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
We still don't know who signed it.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
Well, I think Mark Ellison is the recruitment manager. I'm
sure he had some saying and you know, I think
I've said it on the show a few times. As
far as I can understand it, Wayne didn't stand in
the way of it, But I think it was a
long way down that a conversation we've died before before.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Do you think Wayne was involved?
Speaker 6 (02:20):
I think he didn't stand in the wave it. That's
how it's been explained to me.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Okay, But isn't a bit strange that a recruitment officer,
whatever you call it, he goes and gets a number
seven from overseas and he makes the call. And isn't
that a bit strange in itself?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
I'm sure that they all it's always one sign that's.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Right when you wait for that for a head coach
that would.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Call it like you would think, and they should have,
of course they should have.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Brave look at people in England were surprised. Now now
he is a premiership winning half back, but it was
Is there a chance that House pushed the button when
he kicked that field goal in the World Club Challenge,
which is really, let's be honest, in our part of
the world, it's a glorified exhibition game. With all due
respect to the English sides who really take it seriously,
(03:06):
it's a glorified exhibition game in February. He kicks a
field goal they win thirteen twelve. Is that a two
million dollar field goal that he kicked?
Speaker 6 (03:15):
You'd like to hope not. Wouldn't you like to think
there was a bit more depth to it than that.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
But you're right.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
I've heard from people both in the UK and other
recruiters here in the NRL that they were surprised that
sous One signed him, but also through that amount of
money out him.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Look, it's a two million dollar mistake.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I know.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
I've heard of other Super League clubs.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
Being interested in getting him, But is he they want
to be offering some pretty heavy coin to move Lewis Dodd,
or for Lewis Dodd to want to move away from
the seven hundred thousand dollars a year contract he's on.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Further to that, regardless of how he plays this week
and the back end of the year, will he be
at the club next year?
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Do we know?
Speaker 5 (03:49):
I would be surprised.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
I don't know how it can be, because Souse had
to look back on this season and they've had a
rotten run with injuries.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
We've said it previously.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I think that they also have to take some ownership
of where this club has gone the last few years.
I think you go back to the Grand Final and
ever since, it's almost like they've been treading water, hoping
that they can reinvent what they had previously. But the
players are getting older. Cody's another year older next year.
He's had a shocking run of injuries. Latrell has his moments.
(04:23):
He has his moments, but is he up with the
real gun fullbacks in the game at the moment?
Speaker 7 (04:28):
I'm not so sure.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
There's your list, Cruels, You've got to work today on
the injury list and the worth of player that is
on the side of the man.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
That puts in perspective why they're sitting down the bottom
of the ladder, doesn't it. And a lot of these
injuries have been ongoing all year, Like Littrell's had massive
amounts of time out, Cameron Murray hasn't been there all year,
Keon's now gone for the season. Campbell Graham, even when
he's been playing, has been injury. That whole list, there's
six million dollars worth of talent. Again, I don't know
(04:58):
if that's the excuse, because if all these guys are
on the park I'm still not sure that saus would
be up near the top of the premiersgue.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
A lot of them were in the park last year,
weren't they. Yeah, they were, And it's a good point
you make.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
It's it's a bit of the unknown right now.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Everyone thought they may improve on last year this year,
but we haven't been able to see that because we
haven't really seen a full strengths house team at all.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
That's their future though easier to write this year off
the corrector right this year the season was done when
Cam Murray went and that was in what February. What's
their future because their best front rower is the second
rower in Colone Klama tugging. Cody Walker is at that
age unfortunately where he's getting old man injuries. But even
why Benett acknowledged and credit to him, we're taking a risk,
(05:43):
but we had to take a risk to sign him.
Latreal plays four towne games a year.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
In fact, he's played eighty five.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Games in six years at South, so he's going to
miss ten games.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
This is why I think that Sous are in that
position now where they have to start making some really
tough decisions because they're getting further away from the teams
up at the top of the Premiership. They're not getting closer.
And even when you look at what they've got there
for next year, I'm still not convinced they're going to
challenge the top teams with what they've got. They've got
to bring some players in.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
They need some middle forwards. That's what they've been missing
all year.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
They need to got half back.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
I know that, but I get that, but they also
need some middles and I know they haven't had it,
but through injury and form they haven't had that. That's
at all this year, and look at where they are
in the ladder reflects it. I'm going to be very
careful what I say about how that being a mitigating factor,
because last time was on this show and I talked
about how how injury told.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
His life one of the worst we've seen a long time.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
I've got bashed up on social media from Rusters supporters
telling me and they make a good point that the
Rusters have had many, many seasons, many many seasons of
bad injury issues, but the Ruses have always still managed
to find a way to make the ape They're not
at the bottom of again.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Normally, Wayne finds away with whatever team he's got, that's right,
So that's a little bit of a spruke. I really
think they've got to change a lot about their recruitments.
So I think they've got to take a different direction
moving forward. I say this because you look at their
and your CFLs Cup team. They're coming last, the Jersey
Fleet second last. Their junior competition is nowhere near where
(07:13):
it used to be.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
They're not like.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Clubs like Melbourne Roosters and the like, who have got
academies that they really invest time and money into and
bring players to the club and spend money on young
players and develop.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Them and bring them in.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
They rely a lot on their juniors and the talent
coming through, and I think it's it's not how it
used to be there, and that's not through their own fault.
It's just that there's not as much participation. Our junior's
competition is as strong as it used to be, and
they tend to be quite limited with the money they
spend on these kids.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
I think you're hitting it out along the head there,
because even this injury toll this year would have opened
the door for a lot of guys, but they just
haven't don't seem to have the talent coming through at
that club at the moment pressure.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
They had something like over ten juniors that were in
the top thirty or something. They had a lot, They
had five or six in the Grand Final winning team.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
They just don't have that at the moment, Sam, to.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
Your point Dan about like why they should be You know,
maybe Betet should be playing Dodd, you know, to shop
him to get him to another club. I think it's
actually I understand why Wayne's not picking him. It's like,
this kid's not up to he's not up to first
grade standard.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
And what does it say.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
What does it say if we pick him when he's
just not going good enough? I think that says a
lot about Like, at least culturally, I think they're headed
in the right direction. As long as Bennet's there, they
always will be. Yeah, but their roster is all out
of weak.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
He was on for twenty five minutes last week and
I felt for him. I was calling the game. He
didn't know what to do. He didn't know should I
get my hands on the ball, should I sit back?
The poor bugger is completely lost.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
But what about Alice Johnson?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
He has signed until the end of twenty twenty seven
or did the Rabbits need to sign him, want to
to you deal?
Speaker 2 (09:01):
That was the first thing that stood out to me.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Great player looking to break that record, club man deserves
to be re signed and given another year, I believe
did he need to.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I don't think he did.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
I was surprised it was too I surprise a lot
of people around the game. To me, it looked like
an emotional decision. I think it was like, if he's
going to break Ken Irvine's record, is not going to
be anywhere but at this club, and maybe they needed
to offer him to to make sure he didn't go
anywhere else. Yeah, but I'm not sure what other offers
are on the toe.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Is that a part of the problem here?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Did you shown't too much loyalty to the players that
they've got there? I think that's which is honorable, But
is it going to get them where they need to
get to?
Speaker 4 (09:40):
I think it is an emotional decision with him though
there's no way in the world that they could have
let him go. But again, break You' hitting on a
good point, and this is going back to the problems
that they had when Sam and that was there. That
was things have just fallen away over time. I don't
think it's it's happened in six months. It has happened
in twelve months. It's been a slow build over the
(10:00):
last few years where things have just gone They've got
out of control, and you're one hundred percent right.
Speaker 7 (10:06):
It has to change.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
They have to make really, really tough decisions going forward
because I think they need to turn over their roster.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Let's talk about a few more teams and we'll go
to the paramount Eels Moses back.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
But five wins this season should Rolls be.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Under more scrutiny than what he's been under orre we
happy with the way they're tracking at the moment.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Isn't he doing exactly what you want for a team
in a rebuild.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I e.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
He's not worried about.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Wins and losses.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
He's clearing out the players that he knows are not
going to be there. Dylan Brown, he's open and saying
the future is now. He's seeing what's there.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
And it's a honeymoon year.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Let's be honest. The first year coach always gets a honeymoon.
But isn't this the template of how all clubs in
a rebuild should be doing it.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
I'm one hundred percent with you. I think his own
exceptional job. Jason Rowles, I think the five wins is irrelevant.
I think he got so much flak early on in
the season about the decision of Gutho on and when
things weren't working, and then I think things have started
to turn and they might have won five games, but
they've been in a hell of a lot of them
in the second half of the season. I think Jason
(11:14):
Rowles has got that club down in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
I questioned the guthe call at the start of the year,
but the more you see of a young year, you
kind of think, well, long term, he's probably made the
right call. What I've really liked about Jason Roles this
year is that through a really difficult time and when
he could have easily lost his head, he kept composure,
He kept calm. I've rarely seen him lose his temper,
(11:37):
and it's just been it's given you an insight into
obviously a bloke that's going to be around for a
long time. I agree that the decision with Dylan Brown.
I've heard people knock it and say, well, it's given
up on the season. I think the opposite. I think
it's given him a look at what may be.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, I think it's the style too, which sty're playing.
They're playing a really expansive style. Their attack is improved
in and that's without Moses. You know, Moses comes back in.
They've missed him for a lot of the year as well,
so that's that's hurting. The defense was really poor at
the start of the year because he changed all the systems,
but that's improved as well as the season has gone on.
And you look at and I said it earlier on
in the year, you look at the Bulldogs with Cameron Serroado,
(12:15):
and he called a lot of players and they went
ten steps backwards before they started this run to get
where they are now. And I see a comparison there
with Roles. But I think the big question is Riles
has called a lot and is a comparison to Serrouto,
They've probably taken a couple of steps back. He's got
ridly Guffo, RCG Cartwright Madison today. So who's coming in?
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Do we know? Who do they need?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Who should they look for? Is there are we concerned
about next year? If he hasn't brought too many players.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
I think even with the players that they have and
some of the juniors that they do come have coming through.
I think they will grow as a team like he
is only going to get better.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
In of course, yes, Parla's look better.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
They've got talent of silver that's come to the club. Now,
They've got some pretty decent young forwards who were emerging
and it may take a year or two for them
to find their feet. When Mitchell Moses is there, it
makes such a hell of a differences.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
We've got no patience in this game anymore. Rebuilds take time,
as you said, then they take.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
They take.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
There is no patience.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Where he won't be patients next year.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
I get that.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
I get that, but let me say this. You look
at what I know Ricky and the relationship that he
has with Donnie.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Ferner and Campe is different.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
But is it a classic example of a coach not
coaching for his future that he can actually build and
build his squad and get what he needs in not
worry that he's got a coach to make sure he
doesn't get sapped at the end of the season.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
And I think that's the.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
Real value that It's a great point that the clubs
really need to embrace and that's exactly what Paramatta needs
to embrace because they're starting from ground zero at the
start of his.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Right direction.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
They had a good era, right, They had a good
era with that core group. They made a Grand Final,
they were constantly competing.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
But it's over.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
I think the only one they're going to regret losing
is to London. That's the only one that's going to
bite them.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
That they Sanders is another one.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Well, that one too, well, we don't know yet, but
he does look good. But the rest of them, it
was time of Paramount.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Have shown that they are a club that do have patients,
like Arthur was there for a decade. Yeah, you know,
and and and you talk about that decision. The comparison
with the Raiders and Foggerty is a great example because
that's Ricky not coaching for his future. They wanted to
give two years at the most manly offered three. They
weren't willing to go down that path. Rolls has to
(14:44):
make choices that he thinks are for the long term.
Guherson's a good one that he did all right.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
For the Roosters, Townsend is out and Smith is in.
But do the Roosters regret their selection last week of
Chad Townsend are not going with Sand and Smith happened?
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Could that come back to bite them? Well?
Speaker 4 (15:02):
It could they go into this game this weekend, don't they?
That was a that was a big loss for them
because now are they four points outside the eight they
go all two points outside. They could be four at
the end of the weekend and trying to catch that
up with, you know, the season dwindling away.
Speaker 7 (15:21):
I don't know. I just think it was it was.
It was proved wrong.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
I thought it was strange, I really did. I was
surprised by it. I thought he's sand and injured. I thought,
I know, Hugo's I seen around my area and I
know he's out. I knew he wasn't playing, but I
thought Sand, it must be injured. You know, no disrespect
the Chad, you know, but I think his days in
first grade are gone, right And I hate saying that
(15:45):
because he's a great guy and he's had a great career.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
But Sandon is a quality player.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Yeah, they may not be keeping him next year given
what's happened with DC and all that.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
But that was a critical game.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
It was one that they really needed to win against
the side they could have beat and it was a
big risk and I think you know obviously it was
a failure, but I'm just thinking the repercussions of that
in a few weeks time could be severe.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Even this week, Like if the Sharks beat the Rabbit
as as you probably suspect they will, and if Manly
would have pulled it off, an upset against the Bulldogs
puts them in a position where they're going to be
pushing it uphill to try and make the ape.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Well, just there're two points out of the eighth, but
to your point, because they're falling against is the worst
of that group of four, so they're effectively two wins.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Outside the eight.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
So thet look at that run hard Melbourne, the unfortunate
situation where cam Munster is sadly out this week because
at his dad's funeral.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
It makes their job a little bit easier this week.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Manly all of a sudden starting to look like they're
running into formal Dolphins are no pushover dogs. And then
you've got Melbourne again. So I'll tell you what, if
they make it, bro, they're going to earn it.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Do you think they make it?
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Well, they've got to push in front of Manly and
the Sharks and the Dolphins. They've got to push in
front of two of those.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Where do you reckons there a chance? He's been saying
it for about four months.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
It is funny though, how their their run has died,
you know, not that long ago. I know other clubs,
with all of them privately were saying that that's the
team they actually.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
But they beat Melane. We know Cameron Monster, which they can.
They're back on track. They've you know, they've gone off
a little bit, got off track last week.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
You know, if Manly.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Knock off the Dogs on Sunday, that makes life very
very hard for the Roosters because that's another They've still
going to get two more wins than them, at.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Least or not before we move on.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
No, no, no, okay, Kevin malt has to be named
Kangaroo's coach.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
We think we're still not sure, but is it the
right choice.
Speaker 6 (17:48):
I don't think there's any other choice they can make.
I just think the whole thing has been to complete
stuff up. I really do. They rushed through the Perth team,
They rush through malmon Inger as coach. I don't think
they had any foresight about who was going to replace
him as Kangaroo's coach for a very big series against
the Poems later this year. Brad Fittler had the job.
(18:09):
It got leaked out there from the NRL. He's back
flipped and said no, I don't want to do it,
and then they had no choice. But then they were
Then then there was going to be wayn and they're
going to change the rules, and that got floated out
and that got knocked on the head and then it's
come to Kevin Walters. Usually around this time, this close
to International Games at the end of the year, staff
are already picked and they've they've they're already discussing where
(18:32):
they're going to be training hotels.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
All that stuff's been put on hold. Their first game is.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Against England at Wembley in front of sixty five thousand people.
Kevin Walters will probably lose his front row in Tino
and paying asters Samoa.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
They've got all these injury dramas.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Lea Martin's have any mail on that while we're there?
What's that?
Speaker 6 (18:53):
I don't know, but it's just I know, but it
seems but I know within the Australian setup. What there
is of the Australian setup they're pretty there's a mystic
about them playing for.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
You fear break slightly different topic and is the other
one too? Do you fear the players are going to
pull out? Because we've already seen and I'm not saying
they're going to be part of Kangaroo to us, but
Latrell's already shut it down and he might be gone
for the year. Val Holmes, do you think this is
going to be commonplace?
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Now?
Speaker 2 (19:17):
This is the problem we have now? It happened last year.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
You know, Kaylen pulled out because it's a long here
and the origins tough physical. We've got injuries at the
back end. They want to get surgeries and be right
for the year after. You know that. But I don't
get it because if I'm offered an Australian jersey, I'm sprinting.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
How sad though that you would not want to play
at Wembley in for seeople generation.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
And know the history of Kangaroo to us, right, but
that it hasn't been a Kangaroo too for twenty five years.
Does this generation realize how big this is?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
We grew up with it, do we?
Speaker 4 (19:50):
It was the biggest difference now is what you just
spoke about the possible likely to lose pain Haush, you're
likely to lose Tino, and you're likely to lose Hammer
and we've already lost all these other That's why it
was so crucial that they got this decision right on
the coach. And good luck to Kevy, right, good luck
to him. He's a good coach and he's proven that
(20:11):
he's up to representative football. But I just think that
regardless of if it's Kevy or someone else, coaching Australia
should go to the best candidate. It shouldn't matter if
they're a club coach. These games are held at the
end of the season.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
There's no way like that.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
They're finished by the end of November. There's no way
in the world you couldn't have a club coach doing this.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Isn't the truth? Isn't the truth? The reason we went
to that system. It was a way to justify full
time salary for what is essentially whether it's origin coach,
whether it's a test coach, it's a part time John.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Because if you go back to Dan, I'm not convinced
Freddie was the best decision. You know, if he was
their first contender, I would question that.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
I think the best person for that job, given the
limited preparation was Bennett. I know you can sit there
and talk about South, Well that's on South. South were
prepared for it. To let him take the job, Wayne
would have been perfect. He had to get He's got
to get him up in a short period of time.
They're going to have like a handful of training sessions
when they get over there.
Speaker 7 (21:14):
I just think, way to get him on the plane.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Well, that's right, but I just think Wayne, and also
in terms of like those like the likes of Tino
and pay in hash So this is no disrespect to Kevy,
but Wayne's got some gravitis that will probably could could
make them stay in the Australian Jumper. I just I
think the commissions really stuffed up the entire process.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
To be honest, back to Kevy three game deal, is
that because he has intentions of being an nerl coach
that it's only a short deal or is it maybe
a lack of confidence?
Speaker 5 (21:43):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
I think it's the ladder, to be honest, I think
to me it doesn't sound like a vote of confidence
in Kevin Walters as the coach. I think it's like, well,
you're the only one we've got left. So we're going
to have to give you this this job. But remember
there's a World Cup next year. As I said, like
the the AL Commission has been sitting there and telling
the Super League how to do that run their business
and how they want international football to be stronger than ever. Well,
(22:06):
they probably should treat their own position, their own national
head coaching position, with a bit more respect.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Hypothetically, though that happens opens up another can of worms
with Kevy, because let's just say he was to go
on and get the Titans job, then he's an NRL coach.
Does that change his position as the Kangaroo's coach?
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Should Well that's you know, that's the reason why they're
not giving it to Wayne.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
But still let me do it.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
They really, if the would have been the best person.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Hasler explodes in the sheds. We've all seen the vision.
What's his say about Des and his relationship with the
players at the moment.
Speaker 7 (22:45):
That he's fed up? Doesn't it?
Speaker 5 (22:46):
And it does? You know?
Speaker 4 (22:48):
When Des went there, I actually thought he would do
a really good job.
Speaker 7 (22:51):
I thought he would be a good fit for this club.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
And to see how it's unfolded I'm still not convinced
Dez is not the right man.
Speaker 7 (23:00):
I think that the problem is this club.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
They're just that's where you go to kill your career
because they've had deirs, they've had that.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Seriously, you go.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Back Holebrook Holebrook was there, Garth Brendan, Neil Henry was
doing a good job until they pulled his pants down,
Like it's like this club because he's not the biggest
problem the culture.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
Of this club. It's the culture of this.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Club until they You had Kieran Fouran on a couple
of weeks ago, and I thought he said a really
good thing when you had him on the heavy hitter
section at the end of the show and he said,
you know what he said, when you're going through these
tough times, sometimes you just got to dig in. They
don't dig in.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
You can put a tape on.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
You could put a tape on of a game from
this year and from two years ago when it was
a different coach, and both I'd look exactly the same,
the same fifteen minute collapse where they let him three tries.
There's a mental softness there that.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Did you see it?
Speaker 7 (24:00):
You see positive sizes there like.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Question, you're wrong, what you're thinking, I'm just surprised.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
I'm just disappointed Ador didn't come off the frame like
they did when he was coaching mainly all those was
it manly or maybe candory, but here we.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Go just shows it's one of the great moments killer.
It just shows though that they've got so much work
to do up there, like they do they really you
talk about paramatter and what Rolls has done, and you
talk about surroundo and gas at the Bulldogs, they've got
to do that and more like, they've really got to
(24:37):
strip it all back. And you said it if they've
got the same style, same habits as they've had, you know,
for nearly a decade, like what are they going to do?
Who are they going to get in there? And how
are they going to fix this?
Speaker 6 (24:48):
Well, I think it was the most telling thing. The
most telling thing was that he was prepared to do
it right in front of Rebecca Frazel, who's now taken
over complete ownership of that club. And you know, I
do actually have a lot of of faith in the
Brazels to well, because I just think that the quality
operators and that they've got complete control of that club, and.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I think the operators right, Yeah, they've been there for
a long time. They have what's and they're obviously very
successful in what they do in their business. They're very successful,
but what makes them what's going to transition that into
success as a rugby belief?
Speaker 6 (25:21):
For Pall, I just think that this is their opportunity
to do their way, and I think there's a feeling
amongst particularly people of the Gold Coast, that that it's
if it's ever going to happen, it's going to happen now,
whether you know what, but it is the Bermuda Triangle
of rugby.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
The Goal Coast.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
To finish, you think you're back to the Bermuda Triangle
and it's where people go to die.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Apparently I'm allowed with case it doesn't work.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Next question they're not. Everyone is will he be there
beyond next week? It's his five five hundredth games, a milestone.
They just let him coach that game and.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Then I didn't care for that story and it was
buzz got that. I'm sure he got one hundred percent right.
This is a good journalism. I didn't like the specific goal.
They're going to let him have his five hundreds and
then they're going to move him on I do think
as limited success as des has had, he deserves a
bit more respect than that.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
Let him agree out the season.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
I agree he deserves to coach out the year. He's
a proud man, he deserves to be.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
And is it going to change anything bringing someone in
at this stage of the season.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
As a great Seabolt said, we're all going to die
one day. Stick around journaltors. Tomorrow morning, Australia's tour of
the West Indies continues because he's chased back to back
wins in the second T twenty against the West Indies
Tomorrow nine forty five am on ESPN
