Join Sandro Falce and Zach Adams as they embark on a journey throughout the wide world of cinema. Each week, they will pick whatever movie they want to review... as long as it connects in some way to the previous movie they covered, and decide whether the movie is an oldie or a goodie. (: For 2019 episodes, we cover 1994. For 2020 episodes, we cover 1984. For 2021 episodes, we cover 1987. For 2022 episodes, we cover 2001. For 2023-24 episodes, we cover 1920 - 2000.) What do you get when you ask Wes Craven, creator of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Scream', to break away from his gory horror roots and direct a dark sci-fi thriller? You get test audiences who are so disappointed in the lack of violence in the movie that you then get him to do a bunch of reshoots that add in heaps of gory horror scenes! But what do you get when those new graphic reshoots are too graphic for censors, so you have...
Have you ever wanted to watch a movie about a sentient computer that is just a sword and sorcery fantasy film in disguise? What about an anthology movie that's more similar to a sketch film but without any of the comedy? Have you ever wondered where Adam Savage from Mythbusters got his catchphrase from? If you answered yes to any of those questions, this week's movie is for you! It's The Dungeonmaster from 1984. It's also known as ...
We're back and we've got a massive episode for you! This week, two puppet horror movies will go head to head in a truly deadly bonus battle. First up, from 1989, it's Puppet Master. This one sees a bunch of psychics stuck in a hotel getting killed one by one by a group of living puppets! Then, we've got Demonic Toys from 1992. This one sees a bunch of people stuck in a toy warehouse getting killed one by one by a bunch of possessed...
We talk about way too many bad movies on here. How about an episode reviewing a good film? Straight from the Patreon vaults, here's our review of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket from 1987!

We watched Space Jam: A New Warner Bros Advertisement, which is about basketball and Warner Bros and jokes and cameos and Warner Bros. There's so many cameos-for-cameo's-sake in this thing, it'd even give Ernest Cline nightmares!

Straight from the Patreon vaults, it's a bonus battle about two family movies from 1984! One is about a kid who finds a mysterious videogame cartridge, leading him into a cat-and-mouse game with some thugs who are intent on killing him. The second is about a bunch of kids who start a fertilizing company! Which one will win the most points? Listen in to find out!

We here at Oldie But A Goodie love reviewing kids movies that are way too dark and scary for kids. This week, we're looking at a classic example of this style of film: Jim Henson and Frank Oz's The Dark Crystal from 1982. It's a fantasy movie filled with adventure, goofy characters, incredible puppetry, and tons of horrible and violent acts inflicted upon cute creatures. It's fun for the whole family!
Nothing complicated this week, just a good ol' fashioned heist movie by Frank Oz. In 'The Score', Robert De Niro is recruited by Marlon Brando to do one last job... But things get a little more complicated when Edward Norton joins the crew.

You come to us on the day we're watching 'The Godfather' and expect us to review it? Well, it's a good thing we're watching it for the podcast then! This week, we're finally reviewing the classic crime drama by Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, starring powerhouse performances from Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Listen in as we discuss if it's overrated or not!

We picked another long movie for our next episode, so here's a sneaky bonus Patreon review for free while we get ready for next week! It's 1987's Mannequin... The premise is simple: a guy falls in love with a storefront mannequin. When no one's around, he sees that the mannequin isn't made out of wood, it's made out of Kim Cattrall! This film is WILD.

After last week's episode, we wanted to watch another movie starring Jodie Foster, so Sandro picked 2002's Panic Room. Directed by David Fincher, it tells the tale of a home invasion. Our arch nemesis, Jared Leto, teams up with Forest Whittaker to break into Jodie Foster's new home. This leads to Foster hiding with her daughter, Kristen Stewart, in a panic room.

We felt like a classic this week, so join us and special guest hauntedbyhan as we review 1991's The Silence of the Lambs. It's the award-winning horror/thriller based on Thomas Harris's novel. Jodie Foster plays a young FBI agent who has to "team up" with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter to hunt down a serial killer called Buffalo Bill.

Going into the second half of Zack Snyder's sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, we had one question: Will stuff happen in this one? The answer: Kind of! Join us as we return to a universe of slo-mo farming, derivative world-building, and a few pretty cool bits here and there too.

#301: Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (aka Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood) (2023)
Have you ever wanted a 20-minute "we've got to get a team together" montage to be 3-and-a-half hours long? If so, do we have the movie for you! This week, we're reviewing the first part of Zack Snyder's sci-fi/fantasy western/samurai saga: Rebel Moon. We watched the director's cut (obviously) and have a lot of thoughts!

What better way to celebrate our 300th episode than by reviewing Zack Snyder's 300. We're talking Gerard Butler's beard, Lena Headey's unnecessarily exploitative side plot, Michael Fassbender's iconic queer performance, all the racism and ableism, as well as the 'Age of Empires' visuals that totally hold up. However, this episode has a twist... Neither Sandro nor Zach actually watched the movie this week... But I'm sure that won't ...
For the first time ever on the podcast, we are reviewing a movie that was released in the same decade we are currently in. This is also the first time we've reviewed a remake of a movie directly after talking about the original! This week, we're heading over to Paramount+ for 2023's Genie, a remake of 'Bernard and the Genie', written by the original creator Richard Curtis. In this one, Melissa McCarthy plays a genie who's helping P...
This week we ask the question, "Is it cringe to review a Christmas movie in January?" The answer is probably yes, but this movie was so much fun that we don't care. 'Bernard and the Genie' is a 1991 TV movie, written by Richard Curtis, where Bernard (Alan Cumming) gets fired by his mean boss (Rowan Atkinson) and then uses a genie (Lenny Henry) to steal the Mona Lisa. It's incredibly silly, incredibly British, and probably the funni...
Back in 2019, we reviewed the 1994 live-action 'The Flintstones' movie, where Sandro and special guest Rob Lloyd bullied Zach into giving it an oldie. Now, five and a half years later, the boys are finally reviewing Brian Levant's follow-up prequel film 'The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas', and Zach has plans to bully Sandro into changing his rating.

To celebrate the holidays in the most on-brand way possible, we're reviewing 'Jingle All the Way' this week! In this 1996 Christmas classic(?), Arnold Schwarzenegger has to hit the streets to get his son (Jake Lloyd) an action figure. Along the way, he fights Jim Belushi as Santa, runs into Sinbad as another dad looking for the same toy, and has to thwart the evil wife-stealing plans of his neighbour Phil Hartman. If you love Arnie...
