Speaker 2 (01:17):
I am back.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I had a week away, had something come up very late,
but I thank Kevin Peers for hopping on and of
course I think my illustrious co host over here Peyton
Drod and David Males for holding things down while I
was away. Peyton, how did it feel having the power
of being the host of this show?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
One my main objective was just not to fuck up
and make sure I hit record. So that was I mean,
honestly like, once we hit record, that went well, No,
honestly went great, felt felt good about it. Would be
open to do it again, take some pressure off you,
but you honestly, put you under the gun would be better.
(01:59):
I think would be fun. So yeah, no, I think
it went well. I could only defer to David. I
think we went through it pretty efficiently. We kind of
like NFC South, We're like, yeah, all right, Buccaneers, move on.
Really doubt so apologies And if your team didn't get
talked about that there is also a reference to your
team probably sucks. So I'm also sorry to hear that.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
So yeah, yeah, we shout out to keV. keV honestly
came in and wherever, you know, you didn't necessarily take
the leak. Evidan took the lead, and you know, props
to him. You know, we gotta we gotta have him
back on he said he's more than happy to come. Yeah,
and so honestly, you know, we're Brandon being taken away
by the government. I think it's about you know, that'd
(02:42):
be nice, a nice extra voice there.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yes, we are.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
We are officially pitching if you want KP to join us.
Here is a host full time. I'll reach out to
him after we're done here, and yeah, I'll make the
official flea. Might have to do somethanangling financially, but we'll
make it work.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
We'll make it work. You know, he's kind of big
time right now. But we are going to.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Shaving room before the shave room catches this. We are
not firing brand. He's not fired. He's just taken away
by the government.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
So we have no he's on a leaf. He's on
a leaf. He's taking out the back.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
As someone would say, Brandon will will be eventually back
with us. But look, it's tough times in the government
right now. Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
You know the thing is we this is also I'm
not gonna play devil's advocate. We're giving him a lot
of slack for not knowing what the fuck he does.
That's all I'm saying. And like, we don't ever ask.
So I'm just saying we are just giving him, like
all all the room, all the leeway. But it is
his job. This is not his job, So I can't
ask a guy to be here when it's not his
(03:52):
main job. He'd be like, hey, I know that report
probably depends on you in a lot of other people's jobs.
Skip that and come talk football with us. You know
that probably wouldn't go. So I'm just gonna play that
we don't know what the fuck he does.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I think that's a good way to put it. We're
gonna just leave that topic right there. We are gonna
get into what was an interesting Week one of the
college football season, I think would be the way to
describe it. Some of the perennial powers we expected to
be we're not expected to be. But I'm gonna start
(04:28):
with this question for everybody who had the worst performance
of the weekend. And I'm gonna give you three options.
One Bill Belichick in North Carolina, two Arch Manning against
Ohio State, or three Kid Club Nick against LSU.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
David Miles.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
I'm gonna start with you who had the worst Week
one performance?
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I Am not going to say that's Bill Belichick because
he's a first year coach with a new program. I'm
going to give him a year's grace and I don't
want to. I feel bad doing this, but I think
it's kind of something that we're gonna it. Has talked about,
is the hype around Archie Manning, mainly because I don't
(05:23):
want to put it all on him, because he didn't
ask for the hype. He didn't ask for everyone to
say that he's a Manning. He's a kid, He's a
kid that can it, can do good. But I think
that at the end of the day, it was very
telling that he may actually still.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Not be ready.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
I was not impressed by his game play at all.
Not to say that there was no shining, shining part
coming forward that I've seen, no potential. There was a
ton of potential, but he just did not look comfortable.
I will also give him the grace of your first start,
your first away game at the horneshooting, I will give you.
(06:03):
I will give you that grace, but I will still
just say that moving forward, it was very clear that
either Ohio State is just had him rattled or he's
not right. But it's the first game this season. Give
us grace, But I think that that was possibly the
worst thing that could happen to him as far as
staying healthy and having a productive game to look very
(06:25):
much unready.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
I I'm surprised you didn't say Alabama as a whole
in there like I thought I But I mean I
agree with of those like three David already said it,
like Bell Belichick.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I don't think was like gonna come out like swinging
like that, like I think another thing like I heard
people talk about it. TCU also was the first person
to play Deon Sanders Prime Time, and they were shocked
when they played them the first time. Obviously, you know,
Colorado went in there won a game which I don't
think anyone thought they were going to. I think Sunny
(07:07):
Dike's had that experience this time. Is like we're not
gonna let this game get away from us. We're gonna
keep it. You know, We're gonna be more locked in.
We're not gonna just look past these guys, and I
mean they look I'll tell you what, I don't know
where U and c will finish up. I thought TCU
did really well throughout and they and they didn't let
up at all, like at no point, like I don't
(07:27):
know if it was to make a point like we're
not like some like it was a three point spread
and that's like they felt probably disrespected by that a
little bit. I thought kay Klubnick was okay. I thought
they were just some throat. I thought he he looked better,
he looked more experienced. I thought LSU's defense looked improved.
I mean that wit week skid.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
When you see.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Forty white kid with his shirt rolled up on LSU,
that kid's blitzing news flash. That kid is going to
fucking get to you so like it's like a speed demon.
Like he's like like Newslash. That guy's blitzing every fucking
play like he might be in the middle linebacker. He's going.
So I don't know what Pumpson's doing. Like every time
his kid's getting through there. Maybe they're getting confused because
(08:12):
all three of his brothers they all play on there.
He's like, which one is he? Again? You know which
one is the weaks guy? Okay, but uh, I thought
Art just looked like I don't know. I honestly thought
Texas was the better team. I thought the defense was better.
I the one touchdown to Carnell Tait was underthrown. It
was like, Wow, good job Carnell Way to get that
(08:33):
ball doing What the fuck, dude, what do you underthrow
that shit? Throw it on his numbers? I thought, also,
like Jeremiah Smith didn't look good. A lot of people
like it was a lot of jitters. I think starting
your first game, like David said at the Shoe, you know,
that's a lot. But I think there were you could tell.
I mean, he was throwing Brett far fast balls five
(08:56):
yards down the field, like, dude, just better that thing,
Like I think'll get a groove. I think with the
way he performed this is like knee jerk reaction. I
wouldn't I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed again. I
think his that his grandfather already kind of like let
the cat out of the bag, like he isn't leaving
after this year, so don't plan on that. I think
(09:17):
he's like very set on playing another year at Texas,
and I think it would do him good. I also,
I'm not to throw shade like take off like Arch
was bad, but there were a lot of like play
calling decisions that I didn't understand. For Sarkegian, he like
is the master of like motioning receivers one way, boom,
they're running out to the flat they were coming from,
(09:38):
Like none of that was going on. CJ. Baxter is
absolutely not the best back on that team. It's definitely
wiser and you could tell, like when he got in
boom five yards tempo, boom six yards tempo, like then
they're like, all right, we're gonna sug Baxter and and
he's doing like the la'veon Bell and the Jets where
he's trying to slow run it but he's getting tackled
for a yard. So I don't know, I thought that
(09:59):
was bad a coaching as well. I don't think they
set him up for success. I think Matt Patricia is
where he's supposed to be a defensive coordinator and he's
still using that stupid fucking pencil. He's got a laminated sheet,
never seen him write anything down with it, So yeah,
I mean I think that's also part of it. I
don't think they knew how good that defense was gonna be,
(10:22):
and I think they underestimated that significantly, which was their demise.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
So yeah, yeah, I think both offenses looked amazing.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Like I thought it was like it was crazy.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
I really wanted to say this is a defensive battle,
but I also think that both offenses left a lot
on the field and that's why That's why for me,
I think both teams came out offensively looking very bad.
But defensively, I think that both those teams, both the
defenses are going to be a problem for everybody.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah, for sure, I will.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
I will say when you watch North Carolina, I think
we all get wrapped up in It was Bill Belichick.
It was that hype like they should come out win.
It's not gonna happen when you have to bring in
seventy players like you basically just redid your entire team.
So realistically, it wasn't gonna sustain itself. And you could
(11:21):
see it last night against TCU. They got out early.
They kind of punched TCU in the mouth on that
first drive and you could see TCU was like, okay,
whether the storm weather the storm get a stop. And
then TCU got into their game plan and North Carolina
could not adjust. And let's not also remember that Stephen
(11:42):
Belichick was at the University of Washington last year as
a decordinator. Their numbers were top forty in college football.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
But they were not good.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
They were not a great defense by any means, So
keep that in mind when you look at that score
and go, holy crap, arch Manning thing Like, I didn't
watch a game. I was at the beach this past weekend,
so I but like rewatching the game and then reading
(12:14):
the conversations and some of the columns online about arch
I don't think it's fair when basically, like you mentioned Peyton,
everybody's kind of told you ahead of time that arch
Manning is not gonna come in and be lights out
from the word go. We all have this notion and
this idea that he's gonna go pro after this season.
(12:37):
Archie Manning's already told you he's gonna stay through twenty
twenty seven, and I really do believe that that isn't
just because they want him to fulfill his two years
at Texas. I really think that's the Manning family sitting
there going. He's not as polished as some of the
rest of us were at that stage, so we know
(12:58):
he's gonna need to to get to that. I'm the
number one pick ability. The only reason I'll pick k
Clubnick before we go back to the arch Manning thing
is because he's been in the big stages before, and
ye like I have to cut Arch a little bit
of slack because of what David said. First start at
Ohio State, first game of the year, massive crowd, that's
(13:21):
a hard environment for your first time.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
You are the guy.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
There is no Quinn Yewers, there is no I'm playing
because of an injury.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
You're the guy unless you get hurt.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
That's a tall task for a quarterback that has a
lot of skill and already a lot of pressure because
of the name saying I look at Kay Clubnick and
club Nick wasn't bad by any means, but you're like,
at the end of the day, he's the guy that
has the experience, he's played in the big games. He
needed in a couple of those late drives to step
(13:53):
up and make plays, and he wasn't able to do it.
That's why to me he had the worst performance because
he's the guy that has been in those situations before
and he wasn't able to produce this time. And if
you're Clemson, all of a sudden, you now have to
look at the acc as a whole and say, oh crap,
like Miami might be better than maybe we thought they
(14:16):
were gonna be coming into the year. You got Florida
State who went down and handled Alabama, And really some
of that is that Florida State defense with Mike Norvel
finally played like a smash mount defense, and I think
Florida State has wanted the last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah, I also wanted to say, like I thought, if
you look across the board, the best quarterbacks that were
playing were at least like one, like they've already started
a year at like a full year, like Garrett not
Smier looked good, and I mean that could be just
the offense they run, like guys getting open things like that.
But he's not making bad decisions like he looked it.
(14:57):
He looked the part and everyone everybody's been that illustrious.
I want that Joe Burrow senior year. Everybody wants it.
And then you know, I mean, like if they get
a defense, there's nothing stopping that that team. Really, I mean,
if they can score at will, I mean, it's it's
what you're trying to chase. But like the one thing
(15:17):
about Florida State, I didn't think you can take whatever
you want out of it. I don't think they could
beat Miami. I thought they I know the score was
thirty one seventeen to the end of it. I thought
they let Alabama get back into the game when they
could have ended it like in the third. I thought
they let them hang around a little bit and they
let him score a touchdown field goal. Like obviously they
(15:39):
took control near the end, but there was a there
was a gap there where I was like once, like
it reminded me of literally like when Boston College played
Florida C last year. Wow, what an amazing play Tommy Costellanas.
It took like defenses like four weeks like, Oh, you
just got to stop that guy. Just don't let him run,
and you're good, Like someone's gonna do that, and he's
(16:00):
gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Like I'm glad you said that because now we're all
wrapped up in Florida State and it's no knocking on
Florida State.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Yeah, I'm not trying to do all that.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I feel like Miami, if we're gonna talk about the
EASTC teams, Miami had the more impressive showing, and I
think Miami is more of a legitimate.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Threat for the College Football Playoff.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
I didn't like how they were cowardice at times, though
there were fourth and two, they should have a lot
of guys would have went to end the game, a
lot of gooven like fucking field goal, We're gonna end
the ship right here. Like I don't know. I didn't
like I didn't like how conservative he was with decisions.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
But here's here's what I will say.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
I do.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
I do think Miami's defense is not good. I think
that was more I don't. I don't necessarily think that
was Mario Chrisi Ball being hesitant. I think that was
Mario Crisco Ball going, you know what, Carson Beck was great,
and Carson that needed to be great, and he needs
to be great, and Miami is gonna go anywhere.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
He did look a little more.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Comfortable in Miami's offense, and I think we've seen we
saw him in Georgia's offense the last couple of years.
But Miami is gonna need to win with a stellar defense.
And I think that's what Mario chris Ball told you
in on Sunday against Notre Dame was I think this
defense is one of the best in college football, and
(17:26):
they're gonna show you because we're gonna kick the field
goal and we're gonna stuff Notre Dame to win the game,
and that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Yeah, I would agree, David, you had something you wanted
to say. I didn't mean to come off.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
No, you're good.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Actually I was gonna say the same thing as you.
Just you have faith in your defense. You don't sit
here and you know, try and get extra down because
so everything that Dave.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Said, I don't have to be that's a fair point.
I didn't think about that. I I always look at
it like from like the offensive perspective, thinking in the moment.
But you're right, like their defense was smacking people. They
were by the way, Michael Irvins, can we talk about it?
I mean, I get like, you know, everybody's got their guy,
(18:13):
like McConaughey is. I think his he has a role
on the team. It's like player like morale or something, right,
and he goes to all the games and things like that,
and obviously he's Tom Poole collected McConaughey. That dude embodies
what Miami football is. I mean, if he I'm just
saying it, don't there's not a zero percent chance that
(18:36):
he doesn't accidentally run on the field and tackle somebody
that's all I'm saying. There's not a zero as then
a chance of that that he makes a mistake like that.
But he was, man, he was fucked that. Still, I'll
never get over a cow. Last year he was on
all fours. That was a crazy look. He can't be
doing that, got gotta man. I just wonder how much
(18:57):
cocaine it is for like a six year old guy.
Can't be that good for you, you know, it's just
bad and paid.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Actually to that same point, have you ever been to
your high school football game since you since you graduated?
Speaker 3 (19:10):
H Yeah, like, like, have you ever been like on
the field? I did the first year, and then I
felt like I didn't need to do that anymore. Like
I felt like, if I linger down here, I become
one of the guys that wears a letterman still to
the game, and I don't. I don't want to be
that guy.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
I went to one of my high school games a
couple of years ago and someone thought that I was
someone's dad. I was not. I was not father at
the time, so that was really awkward. But my point
was that I get where he's coming from, where sense
of you have that pride, that program. Yeah, I respect,
respect a little of energy. I think it's too much.
(19:49):
I definitely think it's too much, but I respect it though,
because I mean, you never see me on a sideline.
You never seen me on the sideline of any team
I've played for, like on his level, but if you've
ever seen a sideline, I'll definitely I get some, but
I'm not going to be on all four.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Yeah. Yeah, I think he's just I'm not knocking it.
I mean, the guy you can never knock the guy
loved the fucking football team like that. That guy loves
the Miami Hurricanes, and I respect that. He I would say, like,
if they're a mount rushmore to you, I put Jimmy Johnson,
(20:26):
probably Michael Irvin, ed Reid, thank you. And then I
don't know if you have to put Chumbuckler on there
because he started it all. I don't know if you
have to do that, but like that's like, you know,
that's how they started. But let me put Shapiro, the
guy that gave him all the white envelopes, made the
money got by the way. That guy's out of jail.
(20:49):
I don't know if you know this. He has a
podcast now and it's literally so funny because it's like
he's just knocking people how they're paying money, And I'm thinking,
I'm like, man, this guy did win a lot of
national championships. People. Maybe maybe I know, I know he
laundered money or whatever he did. Maybe they should let
him back in there and just keep funneling the town.
He was good at it for what it was worth.
(21:12):
He's gonna pay people.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
By the way. A crazy week too in the Big twelve.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Big twelves up for grabs. Man, anybody could win the
Big twelve.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Kansas State was going on.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
No, I didn't love their game.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I didn't love Kansas State's game plan against Iowa State
over in Ireland.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
And then I thought they kind of.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Did not run the running quarterback.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I was gonna say that.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
And then dad and the brother killing each other in
the fucking bargedy that's bad luck.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Well, but that's true Ireland nature. Like, let's not act
like that is out of out of the norm for Dublin,
Ireland on a Saturday. But I did think there was
a hangover for Kansas State. But I will say Iowa State,
maybe I'll freely met. I didn't think they were gonna
(22:08):
be as look as good as they have into two games.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
Why I'm curious. I've heard other people say that, but like,
I feel like they had a lot of guys come back.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Yeah, but remember they lost their top two receivers Higgins
and Noel both went to the pros. Yea, roc Obec
made a lot of big plays happen off those guys
match that's fair, And I didn't think the offense was
gonna be as productive. And I I I like roc Obec,
(22:38):
he's a gamer, but I didn't think, at least going
into the season there's the big game.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Guy in him mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
And that game over in Ireland and then look, you're
gonna lit at that and.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Go, well it was South Dakota. Who gives a shit.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
That's one of the best teams in the FCS, Like
that's the This is no slouch. You're playing poor Sisters
of the East out of the FCS, You're playing one
of the best teams in so in Division one A
football and they just I mean waxed Iowa, waxed them
(23:16):
off the field. And now if you look at it,
you got the matchup with Iowa on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yeah, then after that.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Like I'm gonna pull their schedule up here. In a second,
as I get it, I noted.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
You have Iowa, you have you have Arkansas State, and
you have Arizona Cincinnati, well at Cincinnati, and you're at Boulder, Colorado,
and you're home for BYU, in your home for Arizona State,
and you're at TCU, then you're home for CANSUS and
then you finish at Oklahoma State.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Oh what I'm telling you. The vig twelve just wants
to kill each other. They're like, none of us are
gonna make it out.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
We're gonna well, and you know the funny and the
and the funny thing is, and the funny thing.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Is we all forget about Utah.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Utah's back and they're always They're always that team that
the minute you write them off, I'll wing him as
the type of coach he puts that team, he builds
that roster, and all of a sudden you sit there
and go, God damn, here's Utah again, and throw them
right in with Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Stay, Kansas State,
(24:33):
whoever you want in a big twelve.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
It's all is gonna be for real this year.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
I think so. By the way, Rich Rod Back Rich
Rod just saying he played five quarterbacks on on Saturday
against Robert Morris and they here's what I will say.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
I think when it get into a bowl game is
the most important thing. When you next time you watch
oh like Western you play, I want you to get
a stop watch. They have to be the fastest offense
in college football, like to get set up and lined
up and run it. They were running. They were running
a play every seventeen seconds. But it was it was insane.
(25:20):
They were getting a boot snap bam, boot snap Dan,
Like the ref is gonna be the problem of getting
the ball spot. That's the only slowing down. It's insane.
And he talked about all summer. But it's gonna be
funny when they play Pitt. Watch that game. Watch how
fast they're moving. It's just hilarious. Like they're like, yeah,
we don't have the biggest guys, but we got some guys.
(25:41):
We've been running the hills. We're fast. So we're like
when I say fast, just for everyone at home, I'm
not talking about like speed, I'm talking about like pace.
Their pace is like we gotta go, gotta go, gotta go.
So just gonna be interesting but I think.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Uh now, mind that all works.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
You get a team that stuffs the offense and then
you wear your defense out.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
That's true, that is true. But I think we're gonna
be so fast that they won't even see it coming. No,
I'm kidding. I think right now, you're right. Utah, though,
could win the Big Twelve. I thought TCU looked good
last night. I think they looked and I'm doing a
bad job in our dynasty league representing them. I'm doing terrible.
These guys look like they could win the Big Twelve,
(26:27):
and I'm putting them in a spot where we might.
We're not making a bowl game this year, so I'm.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Baylor at two and eight. You're Fryington.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (26:36):
They might go to an eight. They look like shit
against It was the most.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Validating thing ever seen that they lost.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
The bad They looked bad. I was gonna say I
had a team I thought. I thought South Carolina looked
kind of Lasadaisical for a little bit, just pivoting into
them in a little more cellars train. I think he's sick.
I think whoever's calling plays needs to run that guy
a little more. But that's just me. Maybe maybe their
(27:04):
road management early in the year. But I don't know.
I've just let that guy run the ball. That's what
I thought the whole time.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
So I think outside of that, there wasn't anything else
to kind of grab headline wise.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Week one.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
I mean, Penn State did what Penn State should again
that I didn't think there was anything.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Penn State switched to Adidas.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
That's bad.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
They're switching to Adidas. That's a bad luck.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
I mean, isn't also switching to Nike or someone Else's
not someone.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Like, yeah, everyone everyone's going back to like Nike. So
they decided we're going to Adidas. Anita said, here's a
brief truck. Do you speak German? Here?
Speaker 2 (27:49):
You got?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
I want to see what Bryce Underwood, the quarterback for
Michigan this week.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
You know in the honey of that. I didn't watch
any of that game. How did he look?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
I mean good?
Speaker 1 (28:03):
But it was Fresno State in the Big House, Like
that's a favorable matchup. Now you've got to go on
the road to Norman to face an Oklahoma team that
look Brent Venable probably is not coaching for his job
this year, but there's a lot of pre there's a
lot of pressure on that Oklahoma's program to win. And
(28:23):
this is that big statement non conference game that if
you're Oklahoma you win, it keeps you in the conversation
longer than maybe you should be if you stumble an
Sez play. So there's a lot of pressure in Oklahoma
where I don't necessarily think if you're Michigan, losing to
an Oklahoma kills you. I think Oklahoma losing the Michigan
(28:44):
that does a lot of damage to you.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
M I agree, I figure right, it's a good battle
for both quarterbacks. And we don't know Brice Senderwoods freshman
you know, talks, you know, he graces you with his presence,
he says, which he could I mean very well, could
be that guy. I mean as I leaped outed and
how much money that kids make, and it could be.
(29:09):
But and then you got job mateer betting on the game,
so you know he's betting on himself.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
For the record, we are not saying that's what happens.
Just had to put that out there for Look, I'm
not trying to pull Pat McAfee and have to pay
fee like royalties I don't have because of the freakin.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
We make up a story that's not true.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
All right, I want to transition to the NFL Week
one is upon us.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
You guys did great with the NFL preview.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
One thing that we didn't get to talk about because
it happened after we taped.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Micah Parsons saga is a fit.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
He froze as actually over is what he might have said.
Oh now you're back, I'm here, don't worry. Just all
what you said.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Yeah, Uh, the saga is over. He got the back.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
In Jack's sight. For those of you who persons was
recently traded to the Green Bay Packers from the Cowboys
after Jerry Jones was versed, stubborn and not paid the
man the money that he's out essentially, and so what
the league has kind of re realized, in my opinion
(30:36):
is that you know, well, not the league. What I've
realized is that Jerry Jones is not truly in the
position to want to win. But I wanted to ask you, Dave,
do you want to try and get your question out again?
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Uh? No, take it my internet.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Our power randomly went out like five minutes before I
was coming on to set to zoom up.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
So I think we're having some.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Residuals from that so there is a chance I'm gonna
go disappear again in Frozen. But here's my thing with
the whole Michael Parsons situation. Jerry Jones has played himself
and I think he's played himself in the wrong way
in that. How if you are any player, you're gonna
want to play in Dallas other than for the brand
(31:23):
and for your brand, Like you're not playing because he's
gonna be a winner, because at the end of the day,
you're a better team with Michael Parsons on it than
without Michael Parsons. I thought that was probably the most
asinine line he could have ever attempted to try to say. Now, yeah,
(31:44):
if you're the Packers. The only part I don't like
about it is trading Kenny Clark. That because with Kenny Clark,
Sean Gary and Michael Parsons you have one of.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
The best defensive lines in football.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
But now you get rid of Kenny Clark, that's a
big space eater inside that all has the ability to
rush the passer up the middle. That does now take
a little bit away from your defense line. You're great
on the edges, but you would have been great all around.
And if you're gonna win. The Eagles proved it to
you in the playoffs in the Super Bowl. Your front
(32:17):
four across the board. It can't just be two guys rushing.
It has to be two guys head rushing and a
dominant guy in the middle that can blow the center
and the guards back into the quarterbacks lap. Green Bay,
had you not traded Kenny Clark, I would have absolutely
loved this trade. I would tell you, I think Green
Bay goes right to the top of one of the
(32:38):
best teams in the NFC. But as good as Michael
Parsons is and he will make that Packer defense better.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
They now lose a part of it that we're not.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
That's not gonna get talked about enough in losing a
big guy in Kenny Clark in the middle to help
rush your quarterback.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Yeah, that's what I mean. Yeah. I do think when
we're all said and done, like he'd say like this,
I think Dallas will have technically maybe won the trade
because I think it's like the Packers like started their
clack and it's like they gotta win a super Bowl.
Now you have to win a super Bowl, Like you
gave up two first round picks, right, like you or
(33:18):
at least you gotta make an appearance in an NFC
championship and you gotta not look like shit in that
NFC championship. Probably like and I mean Dallas. I mean
if if I think they were gonna like, if we
don't win a super Bowl, they don't want a super Bowl,
then we're all, you know, even Stevens here, Like I
think the Cowboys will be worse off, that's not a question.
(33:40):
And like I liked how Jerry during the Master of
like keeping people engaged and stuff like that, like he's
been demanded to the NFL to a t Like he
threw in the part of oh but don't think I
won't trade these two first round picks. And it's like you,
who are you trading those for? What do you? Who
are you gonna go get? Like gonna do that? Like
(34:01):
what are you gonna go get? People are like, oh,
who you might go get? Miles Garrett. Now it's like
what you're gonna take on that You're gonna take on
that fucking contract. You're gonna take on the older guy,
but it would be a Jerry Jones. You're gonna take
on the older guy that isn't younger and in more
money and you would just sign him like it would
be ridiculous. So like I just think, like he's I mean,
(34:21):
he's lying. I mean, at this point, I have to
wonder for the Cowboys, is Stephen Jones better? Would he
be better for the franchise?
Speaker 4 (34:32):
Like apparently he is. I talked to a couple of
Cowboys fans because I went to high school with them,
and yeah, they said that his mindset is very much
different than Jerry, and I think also you have to
look from a lens of Jerry Jones is from the old,
the old way of running a team, and he's he's not.
He's very much sticking to his ways as much as
(34:54):
a students betriment detriment, And I don't like I've always
said that that team will not be successful, Bill, Jerry
Jones is no longer than GM or even the owner
of Three Steps Down, because it's just you see him
getting in his way. And Dave, I think you actually
made a very valid question of who the hell would
want to go to play for a guy like that
that runs his organizations like that. I think there's a
(35:15):
few teams that are like that. You have them. You
have Cincinnati, who every year seems to have someone that
they don't want to pay you have you have On
the same side, you also have other other teams that
people don't want to go to for like Charlotte No
One or not Charlotte. The Panthers don't want to go
them because they don't win, They don't make the effort
to move up and win. And so you know, Dallas
(35:35):
was above that point of who you don't want to
why would anyone want to go to you? But now
they've now sump into that spot of why would I
want to go to you if you're not going to
pay me what I deserve? If I'm a top five
talent in the league? Yeah, hey, a top five defensive
asset in the league. You don't want to make sure
that guy is happy because it's one thing if it's
an aging guy, like if Miles Garrett and then had
(35:56):
had the interaction, I don't understand because Miles Garrett is older.
But you have a guy who is who was your
first round pick, who you have told as your guy,
who said he wants to be there, he didn't want
to leave, So you have all these reasons to give
this man what he wants, and now you ship them
off to another team that's going to utilize him the
way he should be utilized, make it feel the way
(36:17):
he should he should feel as a perennial talent. Yeah,
it makes a team ten times better. They make their
I don't I think that now there's more of a
conversation of will the Lions make it out of the
NFC North or them? But I think that they're going
to be a primes They're going to be a prime
defender in that wildcard spot if they.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Do make a card spot.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
So I was gonna say. Also, like when I watched
the Cowboys documentary, it was fascinating. I encourage everyone to
watch it. It's it's very interesting, like everything about it.
Like there's the moment where like they're going to sign
Deon Sanders and they could have got him for last money,
(36:59):
but Jerry just went fucking did it and Steven Jones
all hiss his dad up against the wall and is
about to fucking hit him, like why why did you
give him so much money? And that's like what I'm like,
I just think about that in the back of my head,
like just pay the guy, Like pay that guy, figure
out the money, figure out like We're always hung up
on the guaranteed money. It has to be always that right, Like,
(37:21):
just figure it out. I mean, for a guy that
was so willing to give Dak Prescott so much money,
I can't understand how you couldn't pay Michael Parsons when
that guy actually I see like what he does. I
see the impact he makes on the field, Dak Prescott. Like,
I'm not gonna shoot on Dak Prescott because I think
he is fifteen to ten, like he ranges there and
(37:47):
he does he puts up numbers sometimes, but shit, I've
watched Cooper Rush the last two years and he's put
up fucking numbers two sometimes, and I'm like, not gonna
downplay with Dak does. But it's like he's got to
do something at some point. So like I think you're
evaluating talent is just out of this world.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
In Deck's defense, the Deck was coming off of an
MVP caliber season before he threw, for example, so I
had credit where to do he and then he threw
a playoffs you got things.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
He got fucking shit canned by the Packers that they
showed down in the documentary too. That was very funny.
They're just down twenty three nothing, Jerry J just sitting
there fume and like how could this be? How could
this happen again? And it's like, come on, man, fuck.
I wanted to ask David, what do you think about
(38:38):
the Evils not being out there for the banner or
coming down business as usual, just another game.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
Yeah, I think that that's kind of mindset that they're adopting.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
I look at it from the lens of if you
have a system that works, don't deviate from and if
you have a rhythm with the guys, you have a
rhythm that win, you're a super Bowl. I wouldn't necessarily
break it off. I I personally would want to be
out there for that, But that, to me, that's something
that if I wanted to be out there, I'd have
(39:10):
that at the end of the year, because like you're
going into a game seat, you're going into game one
of the season. Your guys haven't played all preseasons, so
this is their first time actually playing in a real
game environment. I need you all to be locked in.
We are that we are at We have a bullseye
on our back. Let's not sit here and get wrapped
(39:30):
up with a banner of something that we already have
the trophy for. We already have our rings.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
It's a banner.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
We're going to see it eight more times in the season.
Let's focus in on this game. Yes it's the Cowboys.
Let's not sit here and act like we can't easily
lose a game by not paying attention Locke. Follow our
system and we're going to be good. And that's the thing.
That's the way that I look at this from So
now I just.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Want to hurt me. Ain't going out for him, But
you know what I mean, like what you're going out there,
That's what I like.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
You know, you lock in from the second you walk
in the stadium. I don't care if. I don't care
if you got baby mom and drum. I don't care
if your bills ain't paid. I don't care if you're
the Repo manut. After looking for your car, you walk
into the link, your focus is on Dallas. You're focused
on it should be on Dallas before the game. But
it's even more when you walk in that stadium because
(40:28):
at the beginning of the year, yeah, the game one
of the year, you're no longer the Super Bowl champions.
There's no the Super Bowl champion right now. You are
team number one that everyone's gonning for, so lock it.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
In fact, I have to jump here. You guys can
finish us. I'm gonna give my piece on the Steelers.
Win the game. Just win the game, like like you're
just going back to the place you play ship. I
here's my ceiling. I need a Breass Horrors Vikings miracle year.
(41:06):
That's what I need. And hopefully we have that and
uh somehow hopefully everything holds up and maybe t J.
Watt will uh just get like three sacks. That'd be great,
that'd be sad. Yeah, that's not the analysis of the game.
Just win the game. That's that's that's all I got. Also,
(41:31):
I do think uh Baltimore wins this game, no doubt
in busfalo because this game doesn't matter because it's regular
season game.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Oh it matters a ton though, playoff seating down the line.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
This is gonna be one. You're gonna sit back and
if you don't.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Do it, we'll see. I just think, uh, I think
regular season. He doesn't really give a ship. So yeah,
you guys can win on the regular season. Can you
win when it matters? And I'm gon leave it right there,
so you guys listen to these two gentlemen talk about sports.
I gotta jump odious right paid.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
I want to fight him so badly right now.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
He knew exactly what he was doing, just setting me
up to get me pissed off so then he could
hop off. So I don't get a response. But no,
Bill's Ravens is huge because it's gonna be the sort
of game that I described these to a couple of people.
It's gonna be this sort of game that you're gonna
sit there if you're either team that lose it come January,
(42:37):
and you're gonna say, ah, damn, I really don't want
to have to go there. And I have to go
there because I didn't win a Week one matchup. And
if you're the Ravens, I think the incentive is you
really don't want to go to Buffalo in January. You
found out last year how tough that can be.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
To play in.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
You don't want to have to go back up there
if you can avoid it. You'd rather have Buffalo come
to you if you're going to see them in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (43:03):
I mean, the way I'm looking at this game is
I'm not looking at that from the lens of it's
a playoff preview because as we all know, anything can
happen in the next sixteen weeks or technically sixteen weeks.
Anything can happen. But I will say that, like you said,
this is one of those games where it's a loss.
You can live, you can survive off of it, but
(43:24):
gon't bite you in your heads. You're gonna be upset
when you gotta deal with six inches of snow and
buffalo you'd rather deal with. You know, Baltimore doesn't get
that much snow. They get little bit, they get cold,
but that's really not I'd rather deal with that.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Then.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
I didn't go up and wait for them to shovel
out my high stadium, not my stadium, was it? What
is that they changed in some anytime whatever? Whatever that is,
Hi Mark there it is. I'd rather deal with that
than deal with I'd rather deal with Baltimore than to
deal with that. So Dubinson agree with you, Dave.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Matt Stafford is gonna play week one. He's he's been cleared,
he's been named the starter. But I'm gonna ask you
this question, David, because I have this question as I
think about it, how concerned are you for Matt Stafford
throughout throughout the season, not just in Week one, but
throughout the season.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
I'm not much. But I think not much just because
I don't necessarily care about him, and that that's that's
not the that's not the you know, crap on him
at all. I just think that he's he's serviceable for
a team that I don't think is capable of truly winning.
I think they're able of making great runs, but I
(44:41):
don't think I think that that's superable that he has
about the pending go on where he will be, I
think he that's honestly, I really I just don't care
about them enough to be worried about him.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
No, I'm talking about his back injury.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
Oh I thought your man, him is being able to
be a leader. I'm sorry, Uh no, his back injury.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
No.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Well, here's what I'll here's what I'll say. Well, I'll
give you a chance to get your thought. Is at
his age, this is an readily concerning injury for a
guy that has had problems in the past, staying healthy
on a consistent basis like that is really not a
(45:22):
great thing. To have that sort of problem consistently, And
we've been staffed in the past. Wear and pair I
think is finally catching up with him. And that's where
I sit there and I go, you did all this
just to get back. There's a good chance that you're
gonna take that hit and this might be like this
(45:43):
might be it for Matt Stafford.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
Whether we want to admit it or not, that's on me.
Speaker 4 (45:48):
I'm shocked back, Candid. Oh but yeah, no, I I
was much I agree with you that you don't play
with back injuries. There's certainly you just don't necessarily want to,
you know, egg the bullone, and that is one of
them as far as especially as older seas one of
the older quarterbacks tell him can he's one of the
older quarterbacks in the league. That you just want to
(46:10):
see you and go out on a high note with
your body fully intact. And if you if you're in Kimdon,
what are you doing? What are you doing? I'm sorry,
people came in being a wild but just time up
everything I was saying. Yes, no, you don't play with
those things. Like you said, Dave, you said, you sit
down and you go out, go out on your under
your own power. You don't wait for an injury to
(46:32):
take you out of, and especially a back injury, because
those things you it could do a lot more harm.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Than the raid.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
All right, well, let's get out of here on this.
What game in the Week one slave? We already talked
about the Bills in the Ravens, so you can't pick
that one.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
We'll talked about Eagles, Cowboys. Pick that one?
Speaker 1 (46:50):
Which game in the Week one slade? Are you excited
to see?
Speaker 4 (46:55):
It's the It's the one in the NFC North that
we alluded to earlier. I'm I'm very curious to see
how Green Bay it's gonna deal with the Lions, especially
with the newfound talent in Mega Parsons. But I also
know that Detroit is a great team all around. I
am a huge Campbell fan. I think that he is
(47:17):
preparing his team every year. But I'm very curious to
see how this new found Green Bay look is gonna
is gonna affect one of the best teams.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Bring me in. I like that game. We'll be gluted
on that one.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Tampa Bay and Atlanta do not sleep on it into
one o'clock slate because Tampa Bay look there as much
as we all think the Buccaneers have that division locked
up and they're the best team and they're gonna run
away with it. Lands their best threat in the NFC South,
and it's an early season.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Those games in the South.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
Are always physical, hard fought, laser detention, s rapture in
for a battle for four quarters.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
That is a quality game.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
At the one o'clock window, David is having a hard
time right now because Camden is really going hymns. We're
getting ready to wrap up this podcast right now.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
This bad time over here, and she is currently trying
to eat her new crib. So yeah, she's having it.
She's having a ball over here.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
Well, we have a ball and sore for you next
week here on the podcast. Yahoo sports columnist Jay Buzby
is gonna join us tonight on next week to talk
all things college football. After the first two big weeks
of the season. We're gonna dive into and react to
everything that happens.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
And we won in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
So for Peyton Geron, for David Miles, for Camden Miles,
for Day, I am Dave stein Winel. This has been
the Opening Kickoff podcast
