Havanna, 2003. När en lokalfärja tas över av beväpnade kapare hamnar svenska Stina och Linn mitt i världsnyheternas centrum.

Det är våren efter studenten när Linn och Stina landar på Kuba. De reser runt på landsbygden, dansar salsa och dricker rom. Överallt finns stora målningar av revolutionens hjältar: Che Guevara och Fidel Castro.
Men under ytan bubblar missnöjet. Ekonomin är i kris och när 75 oppositionella kubaner grips börjar det som kommer att bli känt som ”Den svarta våren” på Kuba.
En kväll ska Stina och Linn ta den lilla lokalfärjan över Havannabukten. Det kommer att bli starten på ett flera dagar långt gisslandrama.
