my right Mike Duso, and to his right, Miss Tamara Brown.
We are pumped in jacked to get everybody ready for

(01:59):
it should be a very interesting and intrigue game today.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Michael, I'm pumped. To Jack, I'm definitely pumped in Jack
to see next step of Drake May. You know that
woke up this morning that you know, to me early
part of the season, we knew that that was kind
of gonna be a prologue, I think to what the
real meat of the season is now. I feel like
we're in it where, you know, the second half things
are supposed to be getting better. You know, the guys
have been practicing, We've seen some signs of growth. So
I'm just excited. What's the next step a Drake May

(02:24):
look like? Can he make some strides, Can he cut
down on the mistakes a little bit? Can he continue
the big plays down the field? So yeah, that's I'm excited.
Another episode of The Drake May Show Matt.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
You said we should be pumped in Jacked.

Speaker 7 (02:35):
I feel like we have a great reason to be
pumped in Jack today because Christian Barmore was activated to
the fifty three men roster. Obviously, he hasn't played a
lot because he was diagnosed with blood clots, so it'll
be a slow insert to this Patriots defense for him today.
But what can you not be excited about when you
have a guy who during the summer you thought is
he going to get a snap this season on this team?

(02:56):
He's coming back. He led the team in sacks last year.
This team is six worth six worst in the NFL
with pressuring the quarterback. Hopefully, as they integrate him in
throughout the next couple of weeks, they can get back
on track.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
I love you talking about that, Tamara. I want to
get into that decision a little bit later on in
the show. Paul, what what gets you geeked up? This morning?

Speaker 5 (03:15):
I'm with Mike, No great pants, baby, SI can't wait
to see the dirty pants.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I like Mike's thought to me.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Every week, it's it's about Drake May and watching him
develop and sort of riding through the roller coaster with them,
you know, the mistakes, the plays, the runs, you know,
the sitting in the pocket. Just to see the sort
of maturation process of Drake May. That's to me what
gets me gets me up in the morning on a
good Sunday here, Mike, you know, beautiful, beautiful weather, I

(03:47):
mean gorgeous out there, perfect football weather for this time
of year especially. I'm looking forward to seeing if Drake
May can sort of put the Patriots offense to the
next step.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Yeah, what kind of defense Michael, is Drake May going
to be facing that would prove to be an obstacle
in those opportunities to improve. Yeah, fill the listeners and
the viewers in on what they can be looking for
that's going to try to thwart.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Drake Me today, I think the front seven is in
the in the you know, the centerpiece of this defense,
and it's I have a lot of respect for what
they've done. I think the Rams were kind of a joke,
you know the last few years where they were trading
their draft picks. They didn't really ever seem to have
a first round pick. And you know, those times have changed,
and now Aaron Donald's moved on and over the last
couple of years, they've they've drafted really well on the
defensive side of the ball. Two rookies that they're playing

(04:39):
a lot, Jared Verse on the edge. These guys are
all very disruptive and they're you know, to Merimentum pressure rate,
they're second in pressure rate. So this is a front
seven that can get after the quarterback. So you're gonna
put the focus on the Patriots offensive line today see
if they can continue to progress and to gel together
and protect Drake may and it's it's it's gonna be challenging.
You heard a lot of respect from the Patriots offensive

(05:01):
coaches this week of how disruptive this front is. They
fly to the ball, they're very active. So I'm interested
to see how that group is and how the Patriots
handle them.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Wasn't that the first thing out of Gerard Mayo's mouth
on Wednesday? On Turnipage Wednesday, first thing you said, this
is as good a front as we're going to see.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah. Absolutely, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
And when you're not familiar with too, I mean, of
course a lot of the league isn't familiar with them.
They're they're young. I mean, you've got I think five
guys that are all playing significant roles that you drafted
over the last two years. So that's the way the
model to me, that's how you have to do it.
You had a star there for a long time, and
now they're they're rebuilding because they're stacking draft classes, and
that's that's how it's done.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Okay, Matt, with no further ado. Jingle, jingle, jingle.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
You've waited all week for it.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
The whole teams in the locker room right now, just
listening to this, waiting to hear what you're gonna say.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
Here are the Patriots pregame socials.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
GE's to the game, all right, Tamara, I don't understand yours,
so let me.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Absolutely Tamerica gas a Friday that you spend two days
trying to figure out this, so we're building out to it.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
So Tamara's is shrouded in mystery for me, so it's
probably operator error on my part. But I say, because
yours is so shrouded mystery, you are in the leadoff spot.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
I love this. All gas, no breaks. Last week it
was Oprah Winfrey. You get a sack, you get a sack,
You get a sack, keep your foot on the gas,
all gas, no breaks.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
You're up against another depleted offensive line. This week.

Speaker 7 (06:27):
Last week the Bears offensive line was struggling. A lot
of new peace is in there.

Speaker 6 (06:30):
You've got nine sacks.

Speaker 7 (06:32):
Why can't you do it again this week against this
offensive line that is a new combination. And obviously last
week Matthew Stafford sacked four times. He was pressured thirty
percent of the time by the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
Can the Patriots do that again this week?

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Why not? Okay? I like it excellent, well defined on
all gas, no breaks, young Paul.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
It's going to make this a little repetitive then I think, Yeah,
I think the key to the game is getting pressure
on Matthew Stafford and otherwise it's going to be a
long day because they have a passing game that Chicago doesn't.
And Stafford will, you know, find the matchups that he likes.
With Cooper Cupp and Pooka and Nakua and DeMarcus Robinson,
Kyrien Williams out of.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
The backfield, they have options.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
So if you allow Stafford to sit back and get comfortable,
I don't think you can slow them down. But he's
an older guy at thirty six, doesn't move quite as
well as he once did. He's not necessarily immobile. He's
not Joe Flacco or dare I say Drew let.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Though, Wow, those both must have hurt you, Paul.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
A little and my soul to my soul's.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Spot for immobile quarterbacks in it.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
But he can move a little bit, but just not
as well as he once did. And I thought what
Tamara said about how Miami went after him last week.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
That was the key to the game.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
That was the key to the red zone stops, and
that was the key to you know, finding a way
to keep the Rams offense in check. You know, that
easily could have been a thirty point game for the Rams,
but the Dolphins had timely pressure at key times. And
I think that's the key today for the Patriots.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
One personnel note about that to both Paul and Tamara,
But if you're looking for a pass rush and that
the pass rush needs to be an integral part in
trying to come up with a path to victory for
the Patriots today. The signs aren't great for the Patriots
in playing one of their better rush players in Dietrich Wise,
who didn't practice this week. That can't be a good sign.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
It's definitely not a good sign. He didn't practice at
all this week.

Speaker 7 (08:28):
You know Jacquelin Roy is another one who also didn't
practice at all, and so I think it opens the
door for maybe Yanik in Gockway.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
Maybe he'll have a bigger.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Rule nailed it.

Speaker 7 (08:38):
Deuce has been practicing with me a week long on
this name in Gotway, you know, maybe situational for Christian Barmore.
Not a lot of snaps today obviously, because you're not
gonna expect him to go out there and play a lot.
But I think those two guys, a combination of the
two could potentially step in for a guy like teacher Twise.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Did I read something this week as Paul's talking about
Matthew Stafford, Is Matthew Stafford a Hall of Fame quarterback
when his career is over?

Speaker 5 (09:04):
I mean, not in mind, but probably Okay, Like that
was a small as you know, I'm a small Hall guy,
and you know I would have about probably thirty percent
of what's already in there if it was my hall.
But they're not dumb enough to do that, Matt, So
I don't have a say.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
All right, anybody else on the panel want to like
defend Matthew Stafford's Hall of Fame credentials?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
No, little, I mean I don't want to take away
from his from his career because I just I think
he's been outstanding. I think he, you know, his toughness
just really stands out to me. Certain players, I mean,
even if they're not in the Hall of Fame, can
be all time kind of players for a trait, and
I think that might be one with him, especially with
you know, Detroit. I mean, they were they were such
a struggling franchise when he came in, and he I

(09:46):
don't know as they turned it around entirely, but you know,
really kind of stabilized things there in Detroit and you know,
going to l A winning a title there. I think
that's a you know, a nice cap for his career.
But I don't know if he's a Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Okay, so let's get to two of the better well
written keys.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I think I was supposed to go. I think when
mine was supposed to go right at the end of
when Paul said it. But I was going to say, Paul,
I agree with you when we were coming up with
the Keys, though, I think we all know what this
Patriots team needs to do, so instead of you know,
focusing on them, I think that it's just the baseline
of getting pressure on Matthew Stafford and trying to force
mistakes to offset a little bit of the talent gap
that is between these two teams. So can they reproduce

(10:24):
the pressure like Tamara was talking about, Can Yanni can
Gotway come in and make an impact. I think he
might have a chance to will stay along the lines
with Christian Barmore. I'd put him in there early. I
think some I think the talking points gonna be, well,
just play him on third downs. I get him out
there early.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I get him out stop help stop the run.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Just I think that's gonna be raren to go. He's
gonna be like a cage the animal. Put him out there,
let him, let him bring that energy right from the
gate and try to set the tone. Maybe try to
get Matthew Stafford off his game a little bit right
out of the game, and then you pull back on him.
I think that everybody going into this game is gonna say, well,
I think he'll just play third downs. He's gonna know
they're gonna rush him inside. Probably maybe that's the case,
but I say get Barmore out there early on.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
I don't know what down, but passing situations like if
they come out on first down and they have you know,
you know, three and four receivers on the field.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Sure it's passing situation.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
And he can't help him against the run a little
bit because he's not a great run player.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Okay, it's been a developing part of this game, I'd say,
and that's I think something that got better at last year.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Now, if he were fully healthy all year, he'd be
playing all three downs on this team, right, but that's
not his full tech.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Okay, all right, the other well written key, and I
thought this was incredibly clever on myself. I'm gonna get
the rotator cuff surgery here. After patting myself on the back,
I wrote insert something clever for win consecutive games. But
in my opinion, wordy as that might be, that's where
this team is right now. Okay, the kids that the
Kings of City Chiefs, they don't have to worry about

(11:44):
can they win to in a row? The Baltimore Ravens,
you know, you don't have to worry if they can
win to in a row. I think for the Patriots
team to help get going in the right direction for
this season, can they put can they stack a couple
of wins together. It's not the biggest goal in the world,
but they've got a chance to do it today because
they won last week. Can they win another game?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Can they win consecutive games?

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Small steps, baby steps maybe, but I think they have
an opportunity to do that, even though, as we'll talk
about maybe a little bit later. I don't love the
spot today for a variety of reasons.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
But yo yo yo, win to in a row?

Speaker 3 (12:17):
I like that that.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
I don't really clever though that T shirt, get off
the crack win back to back.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I don't know that as well. Another T shirt.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Mike's just flowing flowing to me right now, trying to
come up with some clever like a walk T shirt.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
No, I like it.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I think that's a big theme they talked about this week.
That was the challenge that Jarrab Mayo issued to the
team was can we win to in a row? Any
kind of joke? Want we know how to lose two
in a row? We've done that before. But I do
think that there's something with not getting complacent and you know,
using this win from last week as a springboard. I
think Giad told you this week too, as far as
the Wednesday practice that they came out with good energy,

(12:55):
you know. So I think that's the good thing about
winning a game, no matter what it looks like, you
get a little energy. You carry it over into practice
this week, and hopefully they can carry it into the
game here today.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
So I bring up the part about the spot and
why I don't like the spot. You know, there's a
lot of old cliches, you know, west to East, which
Paul probably can give me the numbers, and it's they're
tremendously in favor of the West Coast teams now short
week because Rams played on Monday night. I think the
Rams are five and zero playing on short weeks something

(13:24):
like that either one.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
I think in their last six short and they've.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Been very impressive there. This game means a tremendous amount
to the Los Angeles Rams. They are fighting for their
postseason lives and the old and tangent, well, who's is
who needs the game more?

Speaker 2 (13:42):
I think?

Speaker 4 (13:42):
I mean the Patriots needed from a developmental stage, no
question about it. But the Rams need to win thirteen, twelve, eleven, ten,
whatever it takes seventy two to seventy one. They need
a win, and that's why I don't think this is
a great spot for the Patriots because I believe this
isn't exactly breaking news. The Rams have a better roster,
and I think generally when that happens, if the other

(14:03):
team's clearly motivated, because I think the other team needs
to be a co conspirator in a lot of these games.
With the Patriots, I don't know, you're.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
Gonna need the Rams to really kind of throw up
over themselves for that to happen.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
Matt, and they know how to do it.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
When you look at last season, they didn't start off
very strong, but then they won seven of their last
eight to go into the playoffs. The Rams did similar
to what you were saying with the Chiefs and the Ravens,
the Steelers. They know how to win multiple games in
the row. The Patriots are trying to learn how to
do that. Then this year for the Rams, again very
slow start to the season, then they won a couple
in a row, then they lost on Monday Night to
the Dolphins. Today they're going to be looking to get

(14:36):
back on track to that winning streak, similar to how
they did to end last season and win steveno their
last eight.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, and you guys have touched on this a little bit.
You know. I would not call myself a contrarian, but
when everybody goes in one direction, I always like to go,
well why is that? You know, and the flowers that
Sean McVay got earlier in his career, I was just going, really,
has he done enough? I got to tell you.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Somebody who's looking for it from afar what less need
and Sean mcday have done. Mike, you touched on it,
you know, this rebuild on the fly. This is a
really good program that they've got with the rams, you.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Know, and they are without you know, let's what do
they call them, you know, freaking draft picks or something
like that, we don't need any of that. Well, now
they're using their draft picks and they're heading on them
and they look like they might be doing a decent
job from a draft and development standpoint, right.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah, for sure. I mean we'll see how they bounce
back from. You know, they had a little bit of
downperiod when Cup and the cool we're out. Now those
guys are back there were productive this week. So is
that all going to come back together for them? But
I love your point, Matt. Usually I think down here
November December. These are the time. This is the time
of year when I think your thing of reducing it
down to which team really needs this game? You are
right now. Yeah, the Rams are going to come in

(15:39):
here with energy. They're looking to get back in that
play playoff conversation and really state their case.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
And I don't think New England's not going to come
out with energy. I think they are. Can they match it,
you know, against a team that's better than them on paper? Tomarrow,
Sorry about.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
That, Oh, no worries. I was going to say. The
only way that they're the best.

Speaker 7 (15:54):
Way for them to be able to match this energy
that the Rams have today is to limit the stakes
mistakes from Drake May. He's had three interceptions in the
last couple of games that he's played.

Speaker 6 (16:04):
He has to limit those, and I think.

Speaker 7 (16:05):
It starts with getting the ground game going so he
doesn't have as much pressure on him to throw the
ball and make these big plays down down the stretch.
So if the running game can get going today, take
some pressure off of Drake May so he doesn't make
those mistakes against a Rams team that Douce mentioned is
second in pressure rate in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
I think this could be huge for the Patriots.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
I feel a lot better about the spot after the
loss the Rams losing to Miami. That was a bad
loss for them. They needed to start to do what
Tamora is talking about, like they did last year when
they started to stack some wins in the second half
of the season. I think they had that one at
home on a Monday night against a struggling Miami team
that had lost three in a row. I think that
was a really bad loss mentally for the Rams, and

(16:46):
I think they felt like they had some guys coming back.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
It didn't work out.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
The guys they came back weren't physically ready to be back,
and already you see one of those guys out today
on the offensive line. We'll hear more about that later
from tamaraw when we get the official inactive list from
both teams. I feel better about the Patriots' chances in
the game with the Rams having lost that game, because
I think that shook them a little bit and sort
of derailed their momentum.

Speaker 7 (17:12):
I talked to you their senior staff writer, the Rams
senior staff writer, his name is Stu, ahead of their
trip here one I was a little bit shocked by
two things. One they left yesterday at nine am Pacific
twelve noon Eastern time.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Arts.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
I'm that fascinating, Tamara.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
Very fascinating. I'm like, that seems weird.

Speaker 7 (17:27):
You think you would want to get here, get accumated,
get some rest, specially with a short week too. Ask
him what was the mood in the locker room this
week following that Monday night game. Is this team defeated
or are they feeling encouraged and they can turn the page?
He said, when you have a guy like Matthew Stafford,
a veteran quarterback like that, you know that despite what
the odds are, despite what's going on with the offensive line, injuries,

(17:47):
et cetera, you have a chance to win because you
have a guy like that leading your team. So it
sounds like they're confident and their ability to turn the
page quickly because of Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
So, Paul, you tell me you see a shaky confidence
in the la Rams and maybe if you come out
and punch him in the mouth first that maybe that
you can break that confidence even more.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
I just feel like they had a lot of momentum
that they don't have now. I think they got derailed.
I mean, that was a bad loss for them. And
you know, let's put it this way, if all of
a sudden, Stafford is under a lot of pressure early
in the game, then you know, like those guys that
are missing on the offensive line, same thing that happened
last week, they're in a dogfight.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
You know, like He's supposed to be two.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Gimmes for them, and the Patriots back to back was
supposed to be to get right games for them, and
now all of a sudden, we got four or five
six in a row again again, like Tamara explained how
they did it last year. Now they're just trying to
find a way to win a game.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Yeah, I mean talk about a good game to get
I mean potentially have Barmore and I don't know what
to expect out of in Gakway, So I don't want
to stay like, oh, we've got this great. I mean,
certainly I feel good about Barmore when he gets in
shape and what he'll be able to produce. But to
get a little bit of a boost to your pass
rush with two guys again gotway an unknown. But I
think it's a good game to have that and see
what those guys can do that that's a key part

(19:04):
of the game.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
And that's a guy told you, and those are the
guys that are injured as the tackles, you know, for
in Gocway in specifically, I think Barber was probably a
little bit more interior, but you can come come after
them off the edge. I know Anthony Jenning's been talking
a lot within Gakway. They've been spending a lot of
time together. Read that in Mike Reese's post this morning.
So I think there's an opportunity there for maybe a

(19:25):
little bit of it. I know it's strange because they
had nine sacks last week. I don't look at that
as like, oh wow, what a hass rushed the Patriots
app They've really struggled generating pressure on the passer and well,
Caleb Williams has been sacked as much as anybody in football.
So that's that's a Caleb Williams problem to me, not
a Patriots oh wow, what could they did last week?

(19:45):
But they they have an opportunity, I think, to have
a little bit of an increase in the caliber of
guys that are going after the pass or if Barmore
in Gakway can be part of the equation today all.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Right, So Barbour is clearly a hot topic as we
head into this game a little less than two hours
before the Patriots host the Rams. Is this the right
decision to play Christian Barmore today after you know, a
little practice or anything like that, and activation is let's
see him tomorrow. You talked about, you know, maybe baby steps.
You know, there's a little bit of a plane. You

(20:17):
try to ease him in. But I'm just is it
I'm asking the question, is it too soon?

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I don't think so. I mean, I'm gonna trust the
doctors and I'm gonna trust the coaching staff that they
listen to the doctors, and if he's healthy and ready
to go, that he's ready to go. We'll see what
the actual volume is. I mean, I'm assuming he's gonna play.
But is there still a chance that he's in active? Maybe,
Like I don't know, I don't know why you activate
him if you happen right.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
So fair?

Speaker 2 (20:39):
But is he gonna play a lot? I'm not sure.
But if the doctors cleared him, then I have no
problem with that.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
I don't think it's a physical question. I mean, obviously
he had to get cleared medically. This is not a
football decision, it's a medical decision, and he was cleared.
I think Matt's point is he hasn't practiced, correct. I mean,
he was out there for one day with no pads,
so they're obviously comfortable.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
With that, which is fine. You know.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Like I said, I think there's a I would expect
him to be part of sort of a sub package
today in maybe twenty plays.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Is that too much?

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (21:10):
No, that sounds about right to me. I just you know,
I think they need what he's got, and I just
think it's great that he's going to get back on
the field, no matter what capacity it is. To go
from a point where you don't know if this guy's
gonna play the game again to I don't know what
this season will look like for him, but I know
he's gonna play probably in at least seven games and
get him some experience and just get this behind him.

(21:30):
So when we move on to twenty twenty five, Christian
Barmore is a folk go We're not thinking about the
blood cuts thing anymore.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
Right.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
I think, as Tamara said, as we kick things off
in a season where there haven't been a tremendous amount
of highlights, where as you talk about this another opportunity
to watch Drake may This is a really good story.
You know, I think everybody's been rooting for Christian Barmore. Look,
we didn't know was he not only going to be
able to play this year. Was his career in jeopardy
or anything like that. So for a standpoint where he

(21:57):
was to see them now on the precipice of being
able to play, that's tremendous. Can he help this team
in a place where they desperately need help, that's another situation.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (22:05):
I feel like coming into this season, I was excited,
like Barmore could be the guy that goes to the
Pro Bowl. Coming off his season last year leading the
team with eight and a half sacks forty nine pressures.
I was like, he's going to go to the Pro
Bowl this year. So then in July to hear he
was diagnosed with blood cuts. It was just kind of
derailed everything. And obviously, you know, we're just excited just
to watch this Patriots defense. He is the actual player

(22:27):
who can't go out there and play anymore and do
what he loves, especially after signing a big contract to
this offseason.

Speaker 6 (22:33):
So for me to see him back out there. It's
a miracle.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
It's such a great feel good story, and even if
it's only twenty or so snaps today, I'm excited to
see him continue to play throughout the season.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
Here's a question for the crowd. If your team runs
on their fans, what do the fans run on when
you kick off your day with Duncan. We're with you
all the way to the end zone. Make a run
to Duncan official coffee runner thew England Patriots. You're watching
and listening to the Patriots pregame show fueled by Duncan.
Here's another person who's back, and that's Kyle Dugger. We
assume is going to play today. Patriots have had a

(23:03):
real tough time in getting the other team to turn
the ball over. I'm not telling you that Dougger is
solely going to be responsible for that, but getting a
ballhwking guy who has created turnovers in the past has
to help in that spot, don't you think.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Of course, no question. I mean leader guy who is
able to do a lot of different things, a guy
who enables you to do a lot of different things
with other guys within that safety group. So Kyle Duggar's
experience back there. I mean again, add him into this
all of a sudden this week, the Patriots defense looks
a little different. And how will the results look. We'll see.
I'm excited to see. But there's some new twists coming,
so we'll see. Matthew Stafford, veteran quarterback, not a lot

(23:40):
he can't handle. I'm sure he's fully aware of what
this Patriots defense could look like today. But still it's
nice to get a boost with two of let's face it,
your best players, your long term player question, two players
you invested in for long term contracts back in the
mix today. So we mentioned the energy was good coming
off the win. I think the energy as Tamara mentioned,
just with getting these guys back in the mix, that's

(24:01):
another boost for this defense today. Who really needs a
big game against.

Speaker 7 (24:04):
Matthew staff matt you talked about him being a ballhawk.
I will also say to his tackling, his fundamentals. I
feel like having him out there is going to create
a difference maker, especially with these long runs that the
Patriots defense has allowed. In his three games that he's
been absent, there have been nine runs for over ten yards.
Ten yards that's not normal for this Patriots defense who's
been typically stout against the runs. So hopefully with him

(24:26):
back in there, it'll stop a guy like Karen Williams
from getting going today.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
Which we haven't. You know, we're Patriot centric obviously is
what we should be. But Karen Williams is pretty good back, isn't, Hey, Paul.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
I like Kyra Williams a lot.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
I think he's one of the more versatile guys that
you know, he's kind of under the radar. People don't
really talk about how good he is both in the
running and passing game. Ten total touchdowns, eight rushing. He's
not gonna bowl you over with Gaudi stats. He averages
under four yards to carry, but he is. I think
I saw a stat during the course of this week

(24:57):
he leads the league in third and fourth down conversions
on runs.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
So that's one of those deals.

Speaker 5 (25:04):
If you're getting a first down, you're getting a lot
of like third and two's, you don't need twelve yards.
You need to move the sticks and the other team
is generally playing run in those situations, so those are
hard yards to come by. Eight rushing touchdowns and leading
the league and converting on with third and fourth down
running plays the Rams are. Kien Williams is a big

(25:26):
part of that, and he's going to be a problem
I think in the passing game as well.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
Yeah, I think when people think of the Rams, they
think of Stafford, they think a Cup, they think of
Poka Nakua. This kid might be the real key And
if the Patriots can in any way slow him down,
contain him, that's a real recipe for helping come up
with a path to victory.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I think so. I mean, I I do think you
know Paul's thing with Dietrich Wwise being out, I mean,
Dietrich Wise is kind of a big role player for
you. You know, when a Gackway arrived, thought he's probably going
to be a passing down contributor. Is he pushed out
of his comfort zone a little bit today to play
more base defensive end kind of snaps against the run.
That's something I'll be keeping an eye on as well.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
What what's realistic to think of him from a number standpoint.
We talked about Barb wore in the number of twenty.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
What about in Gockway.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
I mean he's been playing, right, I think, I mean, yeah,
I know if they wanted him to, yeah, he was
I mean, he was hurt last year. I think he
broke his ankle. So he's just come back out on
a handful of weeks ago. But it seems like he's
ready to go. Yeah, so I'd say throw him in there,
see what he can do.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
So you're in the media scrum sessions and everything like that,
And he spoke Mike Leads.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Though, Okay, well I don't know about the spearheads a
lot in there.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
Where's his head at, Mike?

Speaker 2 (26:37):
I really impressed with just what kind of professionally was
You could tell this guy's an NFL veteran who's been around.
Didn't seem shocked that the Ravens had cut him, and
you know, the Patriots picked him up. He knew that
that's how it operates. I think a lot of people
were wondering, how does this guy feel going from a
first place Ravens team down.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
To count news one.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Actually, we'll see today if they're a first place Raisins
team after that Pittsburgh game. I misspoke a little bit there,
but I think he said all the right things, and
he said, you know, he made the comparison when he
got drafted in twenty sixteen by Jacksonville they're down near
the bottom of the league. Next year they're playing here
in the AFC Championship. So just impressed what he had
to say. And I think there were, you know, a
couple of things he said that made you wonder, is
he going to have some you know, some long term

(27:18):
potential here perhaps? Is that something maybe? You know, does
he want to stick around? He's kicked around the league
for a while, he's twenty nine, he's towards the end.
But we'll see. I'm excited to see if he's got
anything in the tank today.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Yeah, it's interesting that we're now in week eleven and
they could be you know, within Gackway in his first appearance,
bar Moore in his first appearance this year, Dugger you
know coming back. That's three intriguing possibilities for a Patriots
defense that could really use them.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
I know we're going to go behind enemy lines right now,
but real quick, did I miss another Saturday update on
Kyle Duggar?

Speaker 2 (27:53):
No, No, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Do we know, I mean, do we know he's back.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
No, we don't know he's back. But I think we're leading,
you know, are we leaning in that direction?

Speaker 5 (28:03):
I I just question he's questioned, I just know if
there was something on because I like literally the last
like I'm the last one to find on information on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
I know you're you're ready to get jumping in here,
but I miss a lot of these emails and stuff.
I'm not you know, I'm a little older.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
I'm not I'm not a home game I'm not tech
savvy in the home game.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
I don't know that you have to do that yet, Bob.
And so with that in mind, mister Matt, let's go
behind enemy lines.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Please.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
You know the view from New England, but what about
the view from the other side?

Speaker 3 (28:32):
And that's why you're our favorite pregame show guests.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
Yeah, every year here and now you tell everybody that
I was on with you guys at twenty eighteen Thursday
Night football.

Speaker 9 (28:42):
Yeah, and I will vote out with the favorite give
for the show.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
No time now to go behind enemy lines?

Speaker 3 (28:47):
My god, it's got a ride force.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
And it's the real rarity behind enemy lines. We actually
get an in person visit from Sarah Barshap from ESPN
dot com. Thank you so much for coming in studio, Sarah.

Speaker 5 (28:59):
Of course, and welcome to Foxborough.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
I know this is a rarity, which those are the
kind of nerdy stats that interest me.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Like the Rams never.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Play here, I think in the history of the franchise,
whether it's in Los Angeles or Saint Louis, I think
they've only been here seven times. That's remarkable.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Now, well here they are, so with that in mind.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
Not that Foxborough was probably the destination that La wanted
to come.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Do give me a a what's the.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Mood of the Rams after the loss on Monday night
and coming in here in New England? What's their mindset?
Would you guess?

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Sarah?

Speaker 11 (29:29):
You know, there's a sense of urgency pretty much since
that bye week and they're one and four start and
then they went three in a row, and you can
tell the mood in the locker room shift kind of
you know, we did this last year after the bye weekend,
we can do it again. And I think Monday night
it's not just that they lost, but it was not
reflective on what they wanted to play, how they wanted
to play, especially on offense, and so you could tell like, Okay,

(29:51):
they need to start rolling again.

Speaker 10 (29:52):
And that's kind of the sense I got in the
locker room this week.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Business like yes, Sarah, just to ask you about the
the offensive line. Obviously, ROB haven't seen ruled out no
boom is. I think doubtful. How do you see them
playing out at the tackle position today?

Speaker 11 (30:05):
I think it's got to be War mc clendon junior.
But Sean McVay said, you know, our guys know. We
asked him on Friday, who's going to play? Will there
be any changes at center? And he said, you know,
we're still working through it. And someone followed up and
was like, well, this is kind of late in the week,
and he was like, well, our guys know, but I don't.
You know, it's gainsmanship, right, Like, I don't need to
share this any earlier than I have to. So I

(30:26):
think it'll be interesting to see. But yes, I think
it'll be McLendon junior out there.

Speaker 5 (30:30):
So that was obviously a huge issue in the Monday
night game. The pass protection really let down the offense
in Stafford. Do you see some of these changes that
McVeigh has in mind here as being sort of the
right way to fix it.

Speaker 10 (30:43):
I think so.

Speaker 11 (30:44):
And he's talked a lot about continuity and how important
that is now He's reference back to twenty twenty two
A couple times because they were hit hard with injuries,
but specifically on.

Speaker 10 (30:52):
The offensive line.

Speaker 11 (30:53):
I think they went through twelve different offensive line combinations
in the first thirteen games, so this is not new
for him, but this year they had these injuries early
and so they got back and they kind of got
in the swing of things.

Speaker 10 (31:06):
Like I mentioned that winning streak, the offensive line played
really well.

Speaker 11 (31:08):
I think in those three games they had given up
one sack and then they get two offensive lineman back
on Monday night and it was kind of like, oh,
this is the offense, right, the offense is healthy really
other than Rob Havenstein, like, this offense is healthy for
the first time since Week one, and then the offense
came out the way they did, and so I think
it'll be.

Speaker 10 (31:26):
Interesting to see what he does on the offensive line.

Speaker 11 (31:28):
But it wouldn't surprise me if there were changes to
kind of get back to what they had seen before
during the winning streak.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Sarah, the Rams under McVeigh have a terrific record in
the short weeks where they do very very well. So
one of those things that you know, Patriot fans can
look at, Hey, we're getting the Rams off of a
short week. This is going to be a bonus. Not
only is it a short week, but McVeigh makes it
even a little shorter week or tries to stay at
home for as long as possible before making. What's the

(31:54):
science or his science behind that decision that you would know.

Speaker 11 (31:58):
He said, that's that he likes his guys to sleep
in the bed. He said he's talked extensively with the
training staff and the idea that because they used to
travel under him, they used to travel on Fridays when
they were going to the East Coast, and then during
COVID when they were only allowed to travel on the Saturday,
that kind of changed and he said that, you know,
it's better, and so I think there have been some

(32:19):
road trips where they I think it was Chicago's when
he referenced where they went early.

Speaker 10 (32:23):
It was I think a.

Speaker 11 (32:24):
Sunday night game and they did not win. I think
they lost pretty badly. And so I don't know if
some of those are what's coloring the decisions, but he
said it comes down to, you know, he wants guys
to sleep in their bed. That's what they've decided his
best and so that's why they try and land on
the Saturday. At the same time, regardless of what city
they're going to, so they kind of get into their routine.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
I think that stuff fast. I'm not smart enough like
you guys to know the extras in the o's, but
that's really really fascinating.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
It's a little condescending.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
No no, no, no, Circadian rhythms.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
Come on, man, No, I find that really interesting.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
Sorry, I got to ask you about the Rams defense.
A lot of respect from the Patriots this week, A lot.
I just I love defense. I love how they've done
it the last couple of years with the draft. What
can you tell us about these young kids who are
really playing hard for them right now?

Speaker 10 (33:05):
He said, playing hard.

Speaker 11 (33:06):
It's the energy they bring in on the field, on
the practice field, but also in the locker room. In fact,
I was asking around because everyone talks about Jared versus
trash talking, because he was micd up for that Thursday
night game in Minnesota, and so everyone has kind of
seen it, and I was like, you know what, when
people ask me about it, I'm.

Speaker 10 (33:22):
Like, I've seen that in the locker room all year.

Speaker 11 (33:25):
He sits in an area that you know that's very visible,
and you hear them from the other side of the
locker room, and that's what that energy. I was talking
to Byron Young this week and he said, not only
do we get that on practice and whatever, but that
brings the energy up on the field. He said, we
feel that, and you know it's he's a rookie and
that's yes, the first round pick, but he's a rookie.

(33:46):
But he's made an impact on this defense. But it's
just not just him, right, Like they're quite a young team,
quite a few young defenders and Kobe Turner, Byron Young,
Braden Fist like that.

Speaker 10 (33:57):
They've really built.

Speaker 11 (33:59):
That front seven Aaron Donald retires and you think, oh, well,
that's it, like they're going to have to redo it,
and they have in the last two years. And so
they're a lot of fun to watch and a lot
of high energy, and I think you've seen that on
the field with.

Speaker 10 (34:11):
Some of the performances lately.

Speaker 11 (34:13):
To be able to go, you know, that's something we
said we forgot to ask Sean McVay about on Friday
because we talked him before practice and the injury report
came out. It would it would surprise me if he's
not ready to go, But that's not something we heard
from Sean McVay.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
About no, no, no worries. I mean my eyebrows are
raised when Sarah's talking about here's a rookie who's really,
you know, not afraid to say and speak his mind.
That's we don't come from that kind of school, do
we Like we do now, it's very unusual to do
that and everybody.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
But it's having a positive effect on the team, is
what you're saying.

Speaker 11 (34:49):
Yeah, absolutely, and it's you know, they joke about it, right,
and which is easy to do when you're in a
winning streak. But then Byron Young very seriously was saying,
you know, sometimes on the field when we're losing, we
tell him we need that energy.

Speaker 10 (35:02):
We're going to feed off of you.

Speaker 11 (35:03):
And so I think that's where, even for a young guy,
it's really shown up on the field.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
So you talk about the youth and the fact that
that's sort of elevated maybe everybody's playing and then you
got the old man playing quarterback, the steady calm influence
and everything like that. That seems like to me looking
at it from outside, this is a place where Stafford's
going to say, hey, guys, we got to win today.
Here's what we need to do. Follow me, We're not
going to turn the ball over, let's go, and that
he's going to set the tone for a game like this.

Speaker 11 (35:29):
Yeah, it's interest because he talked about he's only played
here once in his career, kind of like you said
about the Rams not really playing here the same just
with the Cycles worked with the Lions too, and he
was talking about how it's a tough place to play.

Speaker 10 (35:41):
But he's thrown an interception in six.

Speaker 11 (35:43):
Straight games, which is I think tied for his the
longest in his career, and not all of them are
on him.

Speaker 10 (35:49):
Sean McCabe made that very clear.

Speaker 11 (35:51):
Obviously every interception as a story, but I think this
is kind of the game. This is the time of
the season where we saw last year after the bye
they went seven and one to end the season make
the playoffs, and Matthew Stafford put them on his back.

Speaker 10 (36:04):
Kien Williams two.

Speaker 11 (36:04):
But really that's when you see him come back from
mid injury last year and the offense looked very different
than early in the season, and I think if this
team is going to make the playoffs, that's kind of
the thing that's.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Got to happen to You did bring up Karen Williams,
and I remember that was about halfway through that he
just sort of took off at the end of the year,
and he looks like he's sort of picked that up.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Is he sort of the engine that offense?

Speaker 11 (36:27):
Yeah, I mean we talked about Jared versus on the
defense and on the offense. Then are that Kyraen Williams
springs And especially when you look at a team that
didn't have its top.

Speaker 10 (36:35):
Two pass catchers for most of the first half of
the season. I think at one.

Speaker 11 (36:38):
Point he had scored nine of their eleven touchdowns. The
game was going through him, the offense was going through him,
and so the big difference is he stayed healthy this year.
Part of the reason he came on last year when
he did, he had missed four games on injured reserve,
and he came back and kind of spurred that that offense.
And he's been healthy this year, which has been really

(36:58):
important for them and important for this offense early in
the season.

Speaker 10 (37:02):
Saw the impact on the field.

Speaker 11 (37:03):
But I think one of the things they talked about
this week is needing to get that running game going again,
because it hasn't looked like it did early in the season.

Speaker 10 (37:10):
The last couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
I said already.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
I love the intangibles and for Patriot fans are hoping
maybe to give a little weather to affect a West
Coast team.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Not going to happen.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Sixty three degrees probably kick off crystal clear blue skies.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
It's not like that's going to you know, the Rims
are going to go, Hey, were we still playing in
Los Angeles?

Speaker 4 (37:25):
This is fine.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
How do you see the game going today? Gave us
a pick, Sar.

Speaker 11 (37:29):
I think win, because, like you said, this is a
must win if they are going to make the playoffs.
But I think it'll be a close game, and I
think we'll see some fun defense today. I think that's
what's going to decide the game.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Tractor pull, low scoring.

Speaker 10 (37:40):
I think it's thet scoring.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
I thought I had enough of those in the first
half of the season.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
No, Sarah Barship, thank you very much for joining us
and enjoy the game today.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Thank you, thank you very much. We're going to take
a break.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
We'll be back with more of the Patriots pregame social
fueled by Duncan right after this time out.

here is Matt Smith.

Speaker 8 (42:14):
In with.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
And we welcome you back to the Patriots pregame Social
fueled by Duncan. We are getting close to an active
time where Tamera Bronill join us from the field, but
before we do, a couple of house housekeeping items out
of the way, and we'll start with a little electronic mail.
You can email the show at podcasts at Patriots dot com.
This is not self serving, Michael, but I just put

(42:36):
it out there in the interest of we try to
read what they write. This is from Jay and Napa, California. Okay,
I will admit it that I should have been more
patient with Matt. He's growing on me. So do his fungus,
by the way, but I digress. I'm sorry if I
shout off to quickly Harty. It's a tough guy to
follow a men to that, and he was around for
a bit, So sorry for being a dick, Matt. It

(42:57):
was rough in the beginning, but I'm on your side.
I'm rooting for you. Jay from Napa. Trying to be
less of a dick, he says, all good love the
constructive Christion Jay, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Jay's and Naple. He's just got to get some wine
and chill and chill. He's doing a show for it. Deal,
no big whoop.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
Gavin writes in do you believe that the defense will
be able to get even close to nine sacks like
they had against the Beers?

Speaker 5 (43:18):
No, that's an anomaly, Mike, Yeah, that right going to happen.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
That's about It's about the pressure, you know. That's that's
what it's about about consistently affecting Matthew Stafford. You don't
have the issue that you've had a number of times
this year where it's a mobile quarterback. There's a big
focus on keeping the quarterback in the pocket. Not as
much today, I would say, so a little bit more
free range for guys like you know, Keon White or
bar Moore perhaps or in gatway, guys who know how

(43:42):
to rush the passer to get upfield and to try
to disrupt them, throw them off his time.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
And to further talk about that as being the the
an anomaly. I always hesitate to say in a professional
situation that the other team quit, but I think that
that once that snowball started to roll downhill.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
A little bit like the last few of them. At
the end, they're trying to touch the ball up and
everybody knows what's going on, and yeah, I mean, you're
not gonna You're not You're not gonna, you know, turn
away the nine sacks, of course you're you know, And
it was it was much needed. But again, as Tamara
pointed out, this defense is twenty seventh and pressure rate,
so they you know, it's not the bottom of the
barrel where it was for a good chunk of the season.

(44:19):
So they've stacked a few games where they're getting pressure.
But to me, that's what football on defense is all about.
In the NFL. You've got to find a way to
affect the pass. I mean, as much as we talk
about stopping the run, and that's important and not letting
the game get away from you, but if you can't
affect the passer consistently, it's just as you're gonna have
a hard time putting up points on the board to
keep pace with what they're going to put on the board.

(44:40):
So hopefully today we see a little rejuvenated Patriots pass rush.
I know it sounds weird to say coming off a
nine sack performance. But you look at the personnel this
week verse last week, you should should feel pretty good.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
I get maybe could I use the word traditional from
a pass rush standpoint, like, is there a chance for
your guys line up against their guys and they imposed
their will again, just.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Beat them right, rather than having to, you know, scheme
up all kinds of stunts with five six guys and
Longhorn you know, yeah, right, you know all the different packages.
But I mean I would use this opportunity to to
just say I thought that the pass coverage last week
was outstanding, especially early. I thought that set the tone
for some of the pass rush which picked up later.
I mean, we know at the end they got some
of those latent game sacks, but I just thought they

(45:21):
were really tight. They were sticky in coverage. Right now,
the Patriots ranked second in man coverage in the league,
so I thought they experimented a little bit early in
the season with zone and you know, some different things.
I think after Belichick that DeMarcus Covington was trying out,
But they've kind of returned to their roots, which is
where I think their best. They've got athletes to match guys,
So hopefully we see some more main coverage today. I
think they can stick with these guys in the.

Speaker 4 (45:41):
Key concept there and DeMarcus coming and talked about it
this week on Patriots All Axis.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Can you marry up the coverage?

Speaker 4 (45:46):
Yeah, with the pressure and they can't really do one
without the other, I know.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
And it's it's it's something as somebody who just enjoys
watching defense of football, and when it all kind of
sinks up, it's just like a magic kind of happens
where you see the coverages there initially to take off that,
to take away that first read, and then he goes
to his second read and that's not quite there, and
now the pressures start. You know, it all fits together.
There's just a symmetry to it that and last week
was you know, and I've seen it. You know, we've

(46:11):
seen it before and here's past. They're not every game, certainly,
but this was one of the first times this season
you just said, there it is. It's all clicking, the coverage,
the rush, it's all connected. It's all everybody's working together
hard to carry over. But you know, good chance today.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
So dare I say, Mike is at an instance where
after ten games you are actually seeing the fruits of
improvement that's by the team.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Yeah, that's the right, right, I mean, that's that's what
you hope every season. And I think the last couple
of seasons we've gotten away from that. We've we still
believe the cliche, or we still told ourselves the cliche
of we play our best football after Thanksgiving, that's when
the real season starts. They didn't really do that too much.
But I think you're starting to see some you know,
results right now, and that's encouraging to see. But I

(46:52):
think everybody will agree they still have a long way
to go.

Speaker 4 (46:55):
Massachusetts made for everyone, hopefully not for the la rams today.
That wasn't part of the read. I inserted that myself.

and anyone else you can think of. Come to where

(47:15):

Speaker 3 (47:23):
Game social fueled by Duncan, Good morning.

Speaker 4 (47:25):
Pat How are today great? Good morning fantastic.

Speaker 17 (47:32):
Yeah, so, Matt, I think he kind of hit the
nail right on the head, Like I don't like the
spot for the team today. I'm not saying it's not
a winnable game, because I do agree with what the
guys said, all the guys said earlier in the week
that this is possibly a winnable game. But you know,
I just I think the way they lost that game
against the Dolphins, I think you're going to get a

(47:53):
pretty pissed off Rams team coming in here. But one
thing you forgot to bring up to Matt was, you know,
one thing, one variable where I could see this being
a winning game, you know, just being a possible win
for the Patriots is they're playing for something, and sometimes,
like you know, when things aren't going your way, you
get a little bit desperate, and sometimes when you get

(48:14):
a little bit desperate, you can do stupid things. But
I just think the experience factor with Stafford and especially
Cup you know, Nicko was that he's awesome, but he's
a younger guy. But I just I think those two
guys on offense really didn't like the way they played
last week. And I think experiences just to win out.
I got the Rams winning twenty twenty four to twenty today.

(48:35):
That's all I got. And I'll listen to the rest
of the show.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
Pat.

Speaker 4 (48:39):
Thank you, thank you very much for the call. Pat,
And we'll get into his comments a little bit later
on down the line. But we're thirty minutes past the
hour of eleven o'clock. That means it's an active time,
and so we're here at to Let's stay and let's
go out into the stadium field where Tamara Brown joins
us with the information.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
Hi Tamara, Hi, Matt.

Speaker 6 (48:56):
Let's start with the good news.

Speaker 7 (48:57):
First, reinforcements are on the way for the Patriots defense.
After being out for the last three games. Kyle Duggar
is active for today's game. That's huge news for this
Patriots defense. It benefits them and stopping guys like Kyen
Williams from having.

Speaker 6 (49:11):
A big day.

Speaker 7 (49:12):
This Patriots defense, like we talked about earlier, has had
loud nine runs for over ten yards. They can stop
that today by having a ballhawk like Kyle Duggar back
in the lineup.

Speaker 4 (49:21):
That's I mean, I think his presence was missed, Mike,
don't you.

Speaker 3 (49:25):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (49:26):
I mean leader captain, not the most talkative guy, but
physical presence and great to have Doug back in the
mix and Christian Barber too.

Speaker 4 (49:33):
All right, here's one Tamara for you. It seems like
it's wide receiver roulette week in and week out. Oh yeah, no,
Taekwon Thornton as he was released. His very unimpressed with
Patriot's career comes to an end as he was released
by the team Saturday.

Speaker 5 (49:47):
Who's up this week in the wide receiver group.

Speaker 7 (49:50):
Tamarra, Well, Kendrick Bourne is up. You mentioned wide receiver
roulette in this wide receiver room. We've been having this
discussion since training camp. How would this play out with
seven wide receivers on the roster? kJ but Osborne is
the odd man out today. Last week it was Kendrick
Bourne who didn't have a snap in that last week's game.
This week, he's excited to get back out there. On Wednesday,

(50:11):
I talked to him. He said it was a surprise
to him. This is his first time being a healthy
scratch ever in his NFL career. He worked on his
route running. He said it had to be more crisp.
He had to limit those drops. And this week after
a great week of practice. He is going to be
back in.

Speaker 2 (50:24):
The lineup, Tamara, I noticed Marty Maphu is an inactive
A little bit of a surprise there with Douggar coming back.
What are your thoughts on Mapu being down this week?

Speaker 7 (50:36):
Well, I'm a little bit disappointed, especially because Jacquel and
Roy and Dietrich Wise are also out on this Patriots defense.
We talked about it earlier, Yanik and Yanik and Gakway.
He will have a larger role today as well as
Jeremiah Farms. And then when you add another guy like
Marte Mapu in the mix who's going to be out,
then you're looking out, Okay, where are the reinforcements they're
going to come in and help? Is it going to
be a larger day for a guy like del Pettis,

(50:57):
who's already playing twenty nine percent of the defensive snaps
when Dugger was out?

Speaker 6 (51:02):
Is he going to play a larger role today?

Speaker 7 (51:03):
And also your guy Hawkins, he's gonna have to be
a ballhawk out there when you don't have a guy
like Marte Mapu playing.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
Tamara, did I overhear something earlier in the week coming
from your area of the office, tremendous nickname if you're
if you want to take credit for it. Did I
hear big Pharma being.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
I kind of like that, By the way, I might
have been Fred.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
I'm not sure that's Marilyn.

Speaker 3 (51:25):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (51:26):
You have my permission to take credit for it, if you'd
like Tamara.

Speaker 7 (51:30):
That was not my nickname for Jeremiah Farms, but I
will say I'm a big.

Speaker 6 (51:34):
Jeremiah Farms fan.

Speaker 7 (51:35):
I talked to him one on one this week, talked
about him being a janitor, a cart pusher, a substitute
teacher before making his debut in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (51:43):
He's an extremely hard worker. You hear his.

Speaker 7 (51:45):
Coaches talk about him and they light up when you
say his name. They're so excited about the future that
he has for him. Last week he had three tackles
for loss one sat. Can he be that disruptive again
this week without Deeturchwise in the mix?

Speaker 6 (51:57):
I sure hope.

Speaker 4 (51:57):
So the head coach was talking about a Kurt Warner
job for Jeremiah Farms, that they should make a TV
movie about Farms. This story is so incredible, absolutely all right,
you're out there in short sleeves, tomaraw like the look
and everything like that give the fans a little sense
of what it's like out there. Actually, what's the forecast,
what's it look like, what's the mood on the field.

Speaker 6 (52:19):
Well, Matt, I have to be honest with you.

Speaker 7 (52:21):
When I first walked out on the field, I had
on a fur coat, and I was feeling a little
bit ridiculous because it's actually much nicer than what I
saw on the weather report. Right now, it's in the
fifth at kickoff, it'll be sixty two degrees, nine mile
per hour winds. Had to take off the coat. As
you can see, the sun is shining. There's no wind
at all. It's a perfect day for some Patriots football.

Speaker 5 (52:40):
Not good if we're hoping the Rams were going to
be affected by weather.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
No, hell, well, what are you gonna do?

Speaker 6 (52:46):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Matt.

Speaker 4 (52:49):
Okay, tom Our great job with the inactives. Thank you
very much.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
The MAPHO thing, thanks, guys. I'm not I'm not.

Speaker 5 (52:55):
Johnny read the injury report Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
He's been battling a neck injury.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
Okay, so I know he's he's missed some time.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Yeah, he has been able to play. I mean I
guess let's err on the side of maybe he's been
fighting through it and just doing it because they didn't
have Douger and they were really shorthanded and he kind
of needed some time. Maybe because if it's play related,
that's a little bit disappointing, you know, he just you
want to see him continue to emerge. He came back
from pup earlier this season and you know or sorry,

(53:23):
I believe, uh, you know, and played a bunch and
seem like, whoa, it seems like they got something with
this kid. So it is a little bit I think
that's why I caught our radar that he's out now.
But we'll see, I do. He has been battling that
in neck injury for a.

Speaker 3 (53:36):
Couple of weeks, so listening to doctor Dusseau right there,
that makes all the sense in the world.

Speaker 4 (53:39):
Like he has. He's been dinged a couple of times,
missed some time in games.

Speaker 5 (53:43):
So let's be a little bit cautious. If Dougger's back,
let's see if we can get this kid healthy, because
it would be it would really be a boon to
see those guys playing together, you know, sometime down the road.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
Yeah, sure, for sure, Yeah, I'd love to just continue
to see the young guys develop, especially you know, a
second year guy like him, who who has a lot
of versatility for this defense.

Speaker 4 (54:01):
Eighty five to five Pats five hundred the number. Let's
go to Deshaun from Virginia. DeShawn, you're next in the
Patriots pregame show fueled by Dunky. Good morning, DeShawn.

Speaker 18 (54:10):
Oh, how you guys doing fantastic? That's good?

Speaker 9 (54:13):
That's good.

Speaker 18 (54:14):
Uh. I don't get the optimism about gods like Douger
or whatever, because I mean, I know Founn's agree with
me about the guys, you know, tanking and losing games,
but I think it really would benefit them down in
the long run. You know, they're trying to really dominate
the draft by accumulating more drafting. That's I'm gonna sale
because now you can't trade anybody right now. But I

(54:34):
really think that draft is really important because he can
trade that number one pick and really get greedy with
the draft and but maybe pig cat face as far
as try get player as well. I don't think when
the game's on such beat the positive thing for this thing.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Okay, DeShawn, thank you for the call.

Speaker 3 (54:50):
I would just say that.

Speaker 4 (54:53):
Of the minority.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
I think he might be just because I don't think
that there's a clear cut number one pick this year.
And of course you don't need a quarterback, so that's
if you're gonna need a quarterback, you want to be
first overall pick the year that there's a generational quarterback.
This year, there isn't a generational quarterback. The Patriots don't
needed you need a quarterback, So to me, I don't
want that first overall pick. I think it's gonna be
hard to get out of it this year. I think
they were seventh this week for whatever it means in

(55:16):
the draft order after winning last week. I like that spot.

Speaker 4 (55:19):
But it isn't DeShawn advocating to tank like That's what
I'm saying. I think I don't see that the most Patriot
fans are in that camp. That's what I'm saying. I
think he might be in the minority that is entitled
to his opinion, but I don't see that that's gonna
benefits this franchise at all.

Speaker 2 (55:32):
No, not this season. There's just so much it's so
unclear how the draft is going to play out. With
those top ten picks. It's just not a year where
there's Marvin Harrison juniors just sitting there, Like if that
was the case, then I'd say, man, it'd be great
thanks to the guys they got the If you're watching
the video feed, you can see what the current draft
order is for whatever it's worth. I guess Patriots it's
sixth to now, which is a fine spot to me.
I mean, I get the general premise of what Deshaun

(55:54):
was saying, like, I want I pick, and I'd be
fine to trade down from six or seven too and
accumulate more picks. So you can see this mock draft
here from tankathon dot com where they have the Patriots
selecting Will Campbell. Some people at this point will tell
you that that's too high for Will Campbell because they
don't think he's going to be a tackle. So there's
all this jockeying right now. You know how it goes
with the draft, and you know, you think you know

(56:16):
things at the beginning of the year and then it
all changes. So for me personally, i'd be great between
five and ten. You even want to kick down to
thirteen and pick up an extra pick if they can
get three picks there in the top one hundred. To me,
that's what they need. They got to hit talent they need.
They don't need just a bunch of guys and you know,
day three to just throw out the board to fill

(56:36):
out depth. They need talent. They need guys that move
the needle.

Speaker 4 (56:39):
So if I'm listening right here, Mike, I you know,
I completely agree with where Deshaun saying they need draft picks,
that that those assets can only help a team whose
roster is in a really tough spot. But I also
think it would I would be head scratching to think
that they re signed Dugger, extended him in essence, or
started calling him one of the core guys that they

(57:00):
want to build around, and get rid of him after that.
That seems that would be an unusual move I think
at this point, and I'm not trying to sit here
and tell you that Kyle Dugger's Rodney Harrison, but I
think Kyle Dugger can be on a team that's better
than when they're you know, when they start to turn
this thing around record.

Speaker 2 (57:16):
Wise, especially a captain. But not exactly the same thing.
But I'll flip it around and say similar situation with
Kendrick Bourne resigning for three years and then he doesn't
play last week, and so I to me that was
a little bit of course, it's not trading Kendrick Borne,
but it's a little bit along those lines, maybe a
little obviously less impact. But you know another guy that

(57:39):
that you signed that not really sure what's going on
there with Kendrick Borne. He has acted today kJ Osbourne
is out. I seem we'll see Kendrick Bourne back in there.
But to me, last week that was just a little
bit of a head scratcher. Felt like he came back
from his injury, he was starting to come on a
little bit. Certainly had his mistakes that were obviously certain points,
no question, but it seems like Evan Paul kind of
were on this this week in pu that maybe the

(58:01):
brain farts with him. That might be a thing. He's
just not quite locked into the plays every time, making
some mental mistakes. Perhaps that's our speculation as to why
he wasn't playing last week. So if he does play
this week, we got to see, like to see no drops,
We like to see no mental errors, no false starts,
that kind of stuff that has kind of littered his
game recently.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
Paul's back from his shows. So Paul could you help
enlighten me? What did you make of the no play
yet dress for Kendrick Bourne last week? Because it it's
a head scratcher for me.

Speaker 5 (58:29):
Yeah, me too. I didn't understand it then. I don't
really understand it now. I know there was a line
of thought that we talked about in the post game
show last week that someone had mentioned that there was
an effort to get the younger guys more involved, and
then which makes sense, and then it was kJ Osborne right,
which which doesn't make sense, made no sense. So I

(58:49):
don't know if the brain farts that Mike mentioned had
had part.

Speaker 3 (58:54):
Were at least in part to do with that decision.

Speaker 5 (58:56):
I know that Kendrick Bourne has been a guy that occasionally,
you know, Matt, this is something that you often talk about.
You know, it's third and twelve and he's catching a
ten yard out. Got to think that you can't round
that route off there. You have to get to the
sticks on that kind of a situation. Maybe some of
these kinds of things of pre penalties, you know, I mean,

(59:20):
if you we're gonna bump bench guys for pre snapt penalties.

Speaker 3 (59:22):
Wouldn't be able to feel the no no I understand.

Speaker 5 (59:23):
But for him in particular, I think it's the mental
errors in the assignments, and I think he had that
problem with going back to Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia
and Bill O'Brien, and now you're seeing some stuff with
Alex van Pelt. So I think that there are some
assignment issues with Kendrick Bourne that we don't know about

(59:46):
because we're not privy. We don't know what all the
routes are supposed to be in the combinations. I see
a lot of Hunter Henry in particular, gesturing to Kendrick
Bourne at the line, you know, move over there, he's
supposed to be over here, that kind of stuff. So
I can only speculate then when we don't get the answers.
He seems to be in a pretty positive frame of

(01:00:07):
mind about Oh, he brings a lot of energy. Everybody
talks about that all the time I was with Mike,
I thought a couple of weeks ago with Tennessee, there
was you know, that little run late in the first half.

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
He caught a couple of passes.

Speaker 5 (01:00:20):
In retrospect, maybe it was those late first half passes
where you're going to give those up. You know and
make sure that you don't give up the big play.
You're going to get up the underneath stuff. I thought
he was showing kinds of heating up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Uh. The coaching staff felt differently.

Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
Well, And then I think maybe his benching last week
will put a little bit more of a spotlight on
him today. There's one to watch and see what he
brings to the table, what he brings to the field.

Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
And I think there will be a lot of eyeballs
on KB this week.

Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy, bud Light, the official
beer sponsor the Good Patriots. I don't know why, Paul,
but I think I'm gonna just check in with you here.
What's what are your shows? In a tither about as
we get to about a little bit more than an
hour before the Patriots take on the Rams here in Foxborough.

Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
Uh, my chin wag was just about the inactives and
talking about bar More a little bit in Gackway. Maybe
an effort to get some pressure on Stafford caused the problems.
I mentioned what Sarah said about six straight games with
a pick. You know, see if you can get after
him and cause some eternal because I think that's a
great equalizer always. But that's what that's basically was the

(01:01:25):
tenor of our chin wag.

Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Any any thoughts on Mapu, I thank you. It's been
like we said, he's been on an injury port with
a neck injury, so I don't know if that's part
of it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Yeah, I don't know why.

Speaker 5 (01:01:40):
But I haven't seen a whole lot from Mapu. The
first day, I was astounded that, like he was well,
he came out of moth balls and played every play
correct like and I thought that was really impressive. But
I haven't seen a lot of plays from him. Ye,
you know, so I don't know if it's a physical

(01:02:01):
thing and they're just airing on the side of caution
make sure he's healthy, or if they don't.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Have a role for him.

Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know the answer to
you knowing, what do you what's your No?

Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
That's I mean, I think, I mean, I like how
you put it. I think we all kind of were
impressed that he came in and played as much as
he did, like I mean, not having not played since
like last year. But Paul's right, I haven't.

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Played that.

Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
A lot.

Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
He had fewer snaps last week than like Hawkins and Pettis.

Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
Yeah, he doctor.

Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
Yeah, So I'm gonna choose to believe doctor Jousseau as
I termed it earlier, and that maybe the next thing
is a problem and they needed him out there on
occasion because there's.

Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
A body issue.

Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
That they don't have enough bodies at the position certainly
a possibility. So now that they get dugger back, maybe
they need to get him some rest so that he
can get healthy and ready to go.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
I think that's what Patriots Ben should hope.

Speaker 4 (01:02:50):
Yeah, exactly eight five five Pats five hundred the number,
Tim from Brinfield, You're next on the Patriots pre game
Social fueled by Duncan. Good morning to you, Tim.

Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:03:00):
I just want to bring up something that really kind
of irks me when I hear it. It's it's with
Van Tellt. I mean, everybody's after this guy's job, and
I mean he starts the seasons. Everybody agreed was going
to be a very poor offense, lacking weapons, lacking a line,

(01:03:20):
and nothing against Jakobe. I love the guy. I means,
you know, he's a veterroom, but you know, here's a journey.
Then I don't get this uproar to get rid of it.
I don't know if it's an uproar, but so many
people out here talking about they got to get rid
of Van Pelp. I mean, the guy's hardly had any
time to do anything, and now that he's got a
decent quarterback, things are starting to look, you know a

(01:03:42):
little bit better. I mean, his job is to work
with the quarterback. I think he's playing pretty good. I mean,
I think he's going to be the quarterback's going to
be taught to get down a little bit quicker. But yeah,
it just kind of irks me because from the moment
this guy came on the scene, everybody was out after,
you know, saying they should get rid of the guy,
and I just don't get it. I mean, were they

(01:04:03):
expecting this offense to be phenomenal and this guy's in
the way of that, I don't think.

Speaker 13 (01:04:07):
So.

Speaker 9 (01:04:07):
I'm just kind of curious what your thoughts are, because
when I hear a lot of the guys on the
news or sports shows, you know, I listened to a
lot of stuff. Everybody's after this guy's job, and I
just don't understand it.

Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
Thank you, excellent Irk, Tim. Yeah, I like because I
think he brings up some good points. I mean, he's
a look at he's in a tough spot, a lot
of eyeballs on him. When you've got the third overall
pick playing quarterback, you know your fate is going to
be tied to his play. I thought your Rod Mayo
was pretty definitive midweek. If anybody who's gonna give flowers

(01:04:40):
to the play of Drake may then it starts with
Alex van Pelt. I would expect a head coach to
say that about one of his coordinators, But I thought
Rod did a nice job and picking his guy up.

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
I mean, if you like what you've seen from Drake
may I think that's obvious that you have to give
Alex van Pelt credit. I mean, I agree with the caller.
I think it's you know, he definitely deserves some credit.
And you know, now, though, like I said, kind of
at the top, though, this feels like when the rubber
meets the road, and you know, he's a new coordinator.
I'm absolutely willing to let him grow and make some
mistakes and those kind of things, similar with a lot

(01:05:11):
of the team. But now is the time when all
Right really proved to me that you can take this
offense to the next level. Let's continue to see Drake
may progress, Let's see him eliminate some of those mistakes.
But I think for all of us, the bottom line
for this season was do we have a quarterback or not?
And it seems like Alex Van Pelts done a pretty
good job in that regard. And we can talk about
the rest of the offense and the creativity and all

(01:05:31):
those kind of buzzwords that get thrown around with him,
but for me, the bottom line is he's done a
pretty good job with Drake Mott may this far.

Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Paul, do you see the progress?

Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
So I would just say I I've been pretty defensive
of Alex Van Pelt. I don't think he has a
lot to work with and I think that, you know,
he's trying to do the best he can with a
rookie quarterback. That said, I completely and totally understand why
people when you have one of the worst offenses in
football in general terms, those guys jobs are in jeopardy.

(01:06:03):
Chicago's at the bottom of the league. Their offensive coordinator
just was fired. The Raiders are at the bottom of
the league. Their offensive coordinator was just fired. Like that's
generally how it works. The Patriots are like thirtieth in offense.
Their offensive coordinator is getting some attention now. I would
also say there was a report out from Albert Breer
last week that indicated the Patriots were calling around and

(01:06:27):
talking to people about trying to get help of working
with a young quarterback. That's what spearheaded all of the
talk this week was the Breer report from last Sunday,
right around this time when he mentioned that. And I
don't I mean, I don't really understand why someone would

(01:06:48):
look at it and say, well, they have one of
the worst offenses in football. We knew that, but like,
what about the scheme is helping it? Like when do
they have plays that it looks like, you know what,
they don't have a lot to work with, but they
find a way to, you know, like a play like
the touchdown against Chicago last week. To Jalen Polk, that's
an example of an offensive coordinator putting together a pattern

(01:07:13):
of plays that was really successful. I haven't seen a
lot of that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
I saw it last week.

Speaker 5 (01:07:19):
And maybe that's to Mike's point, progress maybe well, maybe
you see something that hasn't happened yet. And then some
of that noise around Alex van Pelt dies down a
little bit. But based on what we've seen for ten weeks,
I understand why there's noise, all right, PAULA, I feeling
like I think Alex van Pelt has done a nice job.

(01:07:39):
I've said many times someone needs to get some credit.
At least I give most of the credit for Drake
made to Drake May. Sure like ninety nine percent if
it goes to Drake May. But the other one percent,
to me, has to go to Alex van Pelt, and
I don't think he gets any credit.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
So let me know what he's doing without with Drake May.

Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
Let me ask you this, Paul, because one of your
great gifts is your experience, and you've seen a lot.
You've seen most. You've got a young quarterback, You've taught
him whatever the system is this year. What kind of
disrepair do you do to the young quarterback if for
some reason another people think a change needs to be made.

(01:08:17):
Are you setting him up to fail by doing something
like that?

Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
It depends who the next guy is. If the next
guy is a disaster, yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
Okay, but wait, I guess I'm saying he pulled the
plug on Vic Dennison for Josh Allen and he took off.
So a young quarterback lost his young is his first
offensive coordinator, and then he got someone who was better
and he took off.

Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
So it can work. Like it doesn't have.

Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
To be like a career killer one who stepped I
think Drew bledsoe had five offensive coordinators in the first
six years. So I was going to ask you about it,
and that was because that was the best stretch of
his career. That was the one that you know, hits
home to me because I remember that, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
Yeah, I mean it was Ray Perkins, it was Ernie's Zampazi, Larry.

Speaker 5 (01:09:00):
Kennon, just a Larry Kennon, like on and on and on,
and they were just cycling through. I heard Zoe talking
about it a little bit this week. Yes, So it
doesn't have to be like a death knoll to a
young quarterback. Now, you better get it right. You better
get a guy who works well with young quarterbacks. If
you're going to make a switch, and if you're going
to stay with him, you better be right. You better

(01:09:22):
have Alex Van Pelt better better be the right guy
for the job.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
So it's not easy.

Speaker 5 (01:09:27):
This is not easy, Like I think it's so easy
to like say, well, Robert and Jonathan Kraft aren't doing
their job. No, it's it's a really hard thing to do.

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Like they're not quote unquote football experts to know like
what scheme works fits better with Drake May. So they're
asking people, right, shouldn't they, as the owner of the team,
like asking people?

Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Well, I mean I did know.

Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
Yeah, yeah, okay, email the show at podcast at Patriots
dot com.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
You sure.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
And this is David in Madrid, Spain, who's writing. I
agree that this will be a low scoring game. Man,
the defense has to be the reason we win. Also,
they have to add Alex Austin to the fifty three
meter roster by Wednesday. Who do you think they will
let go? My guess is it's kJ Osborne. Also stop
the run. Three items in there from David who I
don't know if dropping kJ os one who's reason to win?

(01:10:16):
But in any event, it is the assumption that Alex
Austin being added to the roster is at a given Mike, I.

Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Don't think it's necessarily a given, though we'll see. I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:10:27):
I mean he's right, though the window does close Wednesday.
I mean I think you have some offensive linemen that
could be candidates too, like Tyrese Robinson.

Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
And yeah, the Lasita Smith.

Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
Lasita Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
Why that's why I have my sheet.

Speaker 5 (01:10:46):
I needed the spreadsheet, and you know, and if you
like those guys, you can cut them and then resign
them to your practice squad and continue to develop them.

Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
Sure, eight five five Pats five hundred. The number Tyler
from Boston is next to the Patriots pregame Social Fueld
by Duncan. Good morning, Tyler.

Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
All right.

Speaker 19 (01:11:05):
I was just gonna ask you guys, how do you
guys feel about the corner situation in uh, the Patriots,
because I really like Christian Zalees and how he's been
so far and Marcus Jones in the slot, but I
don't think there's a clear option for the rest of
our corner situation. Alex Austin has been good, but that's
about it.

Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
Yeah, that's as we talk about Alex Austin. Thank you
very much for the call there, Tyler. Alex Laston's a
depth guy at best.

Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Yeah, I mean that's something it all up. I mean
I put him on one of my uh a little
bit more. This guy, I'm kind of disappointed in this
this summer. Didn't expect him to be kind of locked
in a life or death battle with Marco Wilson that
was back and forth all year, and neither guy could
really separate themselves. Mayo talked about it directly during training
camp that you know that neither one of them could
separate themselves, and now Alex Austin got hurt, Marco Wilson

(01:11:51):
got in. I don't think he's been great. So yeah,
of course you feel great about Gonzalez, and I feel
pretty good about Marcus Jones too, but they need that
they need to find a third complimentary piece. As Jonathan
Jones starts to play.

Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
A little more, someone's got to replace Jonathan Jones a
sneaky position of need.

Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
Everybody's all gung ho about wide receiver, left tackle, edge rusher.
Your quarterback situation is not great.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Yeah, I mean, and I don't I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:12:16):
That's not gonna it's not going to be a huge need.
But it's behind those other three things for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
Yeah, it won't. That's not one that will keep me
up at night. I think you know you've got one
good piece at the top.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
I mean, I think defense won't keep you up at night.

Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Well, like like corner, what does what does keep you? First?
Edge edge number one one edge one linebacker one B
two is a huge, huge need, huge need.

Speaker 4 (01:12:45):
Bridge Jon is the official tire of the newing of
Patriots and the Proud Department with seliv Entire in New
England's headquarters for quality. Bridge Done Tires visits soliv entire
dot com to find a location near you. Yeah, I like,
I just it doesn't get the attention because I think
people see Jonathan Jones.

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
Paul.

Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
You mentioned briefly that Jones has been moving around.

Speaker 4 (01:13:03):
A little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
He played, he's played a lot of safety the last
couple of weeks. But Jonathan Jones is a good player
and if you know it, dug her back, you know
him as corner move them. And by the way, if
I ever really start on ironically using terms like CB
two years, yes, you can smack me right in the head.
But Jonathan Jones is a good number two corner. There's

(01:13:24):
no doubt about that. Like, he's had a really really
he's an excellent Patriot. He's had a tour, but he's
can we say on the back nine, yes, like so
you need that that I agree with Matt I think
that is a need that hasn't gotten the attention of
those bigger positions that he mentioned, but a need nonetheless.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
So maybe I misused the word sneaky. Yeah, it's absolutely indeed.
I think you're right.

Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
My apologize. Here's another great word.

Speaker 5 (01:13:47):
Is Jonathan Jones a boundary corner? But I mean he's
supposed he's playing as a boundary corner. That's better than
the slot, correct, Like if they had a really good
second corner, then you could have Jonathan Jones on the
slot and you could have maybe Marcus Jones. Dare I
say playing some offensive snaps?

Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
Yeah, Okay. We are almost one hour from kickoff time
when the Patriots host the l A. Rams Week eleven.
Can the Patriots win consecutive games? I think that's the
number one storyline today. Give me a path to victory.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Mike Prush the quarterback, I didn't going back to the keys.
I think that's uh. I mean, we know, look all
the things, but for.

Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
A second on that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
Yeah, you know, they've had trouble stopping their run a
little bit better last week. I think the game got
out of Chicago's hands and that helped. They haven't been
able to really run the ball, even though they did
a better job of it, Like, I don't want to
overlook those things because I think both of those are
going to be a key. Can they run the ball
against this vaunted my word, and I'm using a little
bit with a quotation Mark Rams front seven, which is

(01:14:51):
a legit front seven.

Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
Not a great run defense though, I mean not a
not a great run defense, and I mean not a
great run offense. So it's I think they can run enough.
Do I expect them to be dominant in the run game?

Speaker 18 (01:15:02):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
Can they run enough to control enough the time of possession?

Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Maybe if the game's going well for him? Yeah, I
mean that's the path to victory thing. I think that's
you know, when it starts to line up, that they're
able to stay balanced. They don't, you know, fall behind
and they have to throw at a bunch and they
become one dimensional. Those are not past the victory for
this team. So we all know what it takes in
terms of winning the turnover battle. You know, I think
she said Stafford interception five straight games. They've also been

(01:15:26):
taking the ball away a lot, so it's kind of
offset a little bit. So how does the turnovers play out?
That's always a huge part of the game.

Speaker 5 (01:15:34):
Paul, Yeah, I mean that the turnovers are hard to
just overlook. I think the Rams, when they're playing well,
have a good offense. I don't think they've done that
often enough. They've been pretty inconsistent.

Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:15:47):
A shot of that is because of the the the injuries.
They've been missing three offensive linemen, two wide receivers for
the vast majority of the season. So that's not easy
to just you know, snap your fingers and overcome. But
they've been able to patch it together well enough because
of Stafford. Stafford. If Stafford plays well, you're gonna have
a hard time today. You're gonna need them to be
off a little bit. You're gonna have to rattle. I think,

(01:16:09):
you know it's it's simplistic. But Mike and I, you
know we we had are the same key. I think
you need to get him uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Is this too simplistic?

Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Paul, score more points?

Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
No, Uh, they're they're they're moving up in weight class
this week.

Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
Right, Yeah, No, I mean from last week. Yeah, That's
what I'm saying from from the Bears, not really like this.
This is an average team.

Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
Okay, they're not better than average underperformed.

Speaker 5 (01:16:34):
I love Matthew Stafford as everybody knows, all right, but
I mean they're five.

Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
They're four and five, right.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
Okay, and all the numbers that have them average, all
the rankings.

Speaker 4 (01:16:44):
Eight five five, Pats five hundred the number here on
the Patriots pre game Social John from Dallas, Texas, you
join us next on the pregame social.

Speaker 5 (01:16:50):
Good afternoon, John, Hey, folks, are you doing great?

Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
How are you good?

Speaker 20 (01:16:55):
I got a funny little anecdote for you that I
got a question diehard SMU football fan SMUI one. This
uh they played b C last I'm front row BC
sideline and boy, oh boy, does Bill O'Brien have as hot.

Speaker 9 (01:17:09):
Of a head.

Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
Watch.

Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
I watched the game and teapot was in full effects.
Yesterday I watched a lot of them.

Speaker 9 (01:17:15):
Gosh, it was.

Speaker 20 (01:17:16):
It's fantastic. I'm leaning over my girlfriend trying to explain
to her like, yeah, this guy used the F bomb.
Brady left.

Speaker 7 (01:17:22):
It was.

Speaker 9 (01:17:22):
It was great.

Speaker 20 (01:17:24):
Just got a funny question, not really relevant to the game,
But Paul, have you ever given the look incorrectly?

Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 20 (01:17:30):
There ever been a game where things were treading in
the right direction to turn around?

Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
Many times it's at.

Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
That's why John, I don't I don't do it. I
don't make that all that public anymore. I've been wrong
to many times.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
We're gonna get it out of you one of these
years with Drake Man, I think turn of the knob, Paul.

Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
I hate to say this.

Speaker 4 (01:17:50):
You got to educate me.

Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
So back. What's the look.

Speaker 5 (01:17:53):
Back in the day, I'll give you one when the
Patriots were dominant, Yeah, the game would be all. When
I declared that the game was over, I would look
at Fred and I'd give them the look.

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
Okay, I go got it, got it?

Speaker 4 (01:18:07):
Just in this, just in a aside from John's call there.
I turned the game on for a second yesterday and
I saw that it was BC against s m U.
But I see SMU wearing blue and black uniforms, and
I'm trying to figure out.

Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
Dickerson didn't wear blue and black uniforms. Craig James didn't
wear blue and black. What happened with the colors for
s m U?

Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Like were blue college football white and uniforms.

Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
Ever, everybody everybody has a variation of black.

Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
Now those are that's not an s m U uniform.

Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
It looked like some sort of variation of Kansas or Kansas.

Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
State unifor state was perfect. I don't know, didn't look
like all angry. Look I was.

Speaker 4 (01:18:44):
Angry, Matt.

Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
I can't even watching my day.

Speaker 5 (01:18:48):
SMU broke every role imaginable and put on probation right
with death penalty.

Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
Ron Meyer had a pony on the helmet, didn't he right? Yes, okay,
did they do?

Speaker 4 (01:18:58):
They have ponies on the express.

Speaker 5 (01:19:00):
They do generally have the ponies still on the helmet,
but yesterday they wore some fancy d for Dallas.

Speaker 3 (01:19:05):
Good uniform, not for that, not for that, for dude,
and they were that's the top fifteen team, SMU. I
guess that was the other one I learned.

Speaker 4 (01:19:13):
And then I had like my son telling me, you
know they're in the a CC to dead right.

Speaker 3 (01:19:16):
I go into the a SEC Championship game. I think
could need to win one more game.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
It's good, s Id, but there though, Yeah, it's really
embracing the career, all right.

Speaker 3 (01:19:24):
Nothing says acc like Dallas. Nothing said like Southern Methodist
University cal right, Stanford, Stanford, right.

Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Real tradition. All right, that let's go and let's do
some over underwork, please.

Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
Sir, it's time for this week's edition of Over Unders.

Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
Okay, Paul, I'm gonna ask for a little analysis for
the fans because I know your Johnny stats on this.
The stats look pretty good. It looks like all the.

Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Records are decent on this.

Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
So what does I tell you that we.

Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
Sort of know we have?

Speaker 5 (01:19:53):
As Fred would say, we have a feel for the game. Okay,
all right, I have a feel for me for yourself.
But we have a feel for the game.

Speaker 3 (01:20:01):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:20:01):
I mean we're trying to predict different numbers and stats
that go with each game, right, and we I mean
not last week, notwithstanding for me, we have pretty good
records doing it for the year, which means that we've
if you've been listening to the pregame shows and some
of the things that we're telling you might happen more
often than not, the records would tell you that they've.

Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
Had so on the over Unders, we may have a
feel for the team. Yeah, compare that to a feel
for the league. We're picking the games and we're horrific.

Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
That's a later that's a later topic. Exactly. That's what
I was looking just. I was looking for that little
bit of analysis and the numbers from you.

Speaker 21 (01:20:37):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
Yeah, So last week Mike went four and two, No
socks three and three, Paul, one and five?

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
What happened? That doesn't sound like you.

Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
What was the outcome of the game?

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Oh right, oh.

Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Total miss Reid to misread. I had winning the game.

Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
So obviously the Patriots pregame show is brought to you
by Draft Kings. Stay tuned because you hear more about
Draft Kings and all it has to offer throughout the show.
Draft Kings, the crowd is yours numbers presented by Draft Kings.
Let's kick us off with some over unders.

Speaker 5 (01:21:06):
So despite that one in five, Mark I still set
the pace at thirty six and twenty four, Matt right
behind Humble Brown thirty five and twenty five, and Mike
made us some ground thirty two and twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Yes, you did make up some downs. First games.

Speaker 4 (01:21:19):
First number out of the shoot is Drake May passing
yards at two oh five and a half.

Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
Paul, I'm gonna go down the same road I went
last week. I'm going to take the over. It just
seems like a really low number, So I'm gonna take over.

Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
I will join.

Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
Yeah, wise old man told me. Follow the trends, so
I'm going too over.

Speaker 4 (01:21:39):
Okay. You know, if we're following the trends, we'd be
picking under correct. Oh yeah, well because as he he
was right around on that number last week.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Well just okay, something like that.

Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
Yep. Next, we're gonna do Drake May passing yards. I
guess DraftKings says, why don't we do Matthew Stafford passing
yards at two forty two and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
Michael, all right, I'm gonna get crazy. I'm going under
Pat's d Let's go.

Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
Ditto, because I think this is going to be a
tractor pull.

Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the over.

Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Try to separate.

Speaker 4 (01:22:15):
Matthew Stafford fan try to separate Drake May's longest completion
the board says today thirty four point five.

Speaker 3 (01:22:21):
Paul, here's Mike, where you go with the trends?

Speaker 5 (01:22:26):
Okay, every time, every time we've done this, I've take
the over on it's hit, So I'll take the over again.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
I'm gonna differentiate myself and go with the under on that.

Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna hit the under on that
one too.

Speaker 4 (01:22:40):
Joey Sly kicking points that would mean a combination of
field goals and extra points?

Speaker 18 (01:22:47):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (01:22:47):
Six and a half? Is the number? Mic?

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
I like that number. I think I got them for seven.
I'm gonna go over, Okay, Paul, I'm taking the over
as well.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
Three for three on Joey Sly total turnovers two and
a half. That's why these guys are DraftKings are good man.
That's a tough number.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
Yeah, I'm gonna jump on it. Yes, please, I'm gonna
jump out it and say over. I think there's been
quite a few turnovers sport these teams. I'm gonna take
the odor.

Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
I'm gonna take the under. Patriots haven't really taken it
away much.

Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
I'll take the under.

Speaker 4 (01:23:18):
I'm with mister Perrillo and tractor pool doesn't mean a
turnover fest. So I'm gonna go under on that. Last.

Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
Interrupt you on this one, Matt on the total score here,
because currently there is a five point difference between what
I printed out and what DraftKings has.

Speaker 2 (01:23:33):
WHOA would you make a swing on the paper or
the current numbers?

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
Hold on forty three and a half?

Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
Yeah? Do you have a breaking news to it? Do
you have a breaking news out or this is major
breaking news. I'm wondering about the aff I would I
would ask if there is if any of these numbers
are accurate, if you're telling me you've got that kind
of a swing.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
Just kidding, Oh, they are all accurate.

Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
They're okay, so check during the segment. So hold on
forty two and a half. We'll go with them.

Speaker 4 (01:23:55):
So that's what the number is, forty two and a half.

Speaker 5 (01:23:57):
You want to leave things off, then, Paul, I'm going
to take.

Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
The over quick math there probably yes, did.

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
You see me, Mike? I had all I could do
to not start using fingers.

Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
I'll go under on this.

Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
One, same under under on Yeah, I just I think
for a lot of reasons, a tight one.

Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
I don't I don't mean to be cranky and make
it personal about myself. But can I just once have
some nice things? Can I have one game that goes over?

Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Just once?

Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
You talk about the score?

Speaker 5 (01:24:29):
Yeah, I just have some somebody find the thing called
the end zone and like, let's have some fun for
a change points rant over.

Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Yeah, move the ball, score points right, that's what's all about.

Speaker 4 (01:24:42):
Okay, So Paul, you sort of mentioned this a little bit.
This was really going to help get points scored. The
Patriots running game you're saying the Rams defense is susceptible
to a little bit of the run. Do you see
them trying to be a run established team today?

Speaker 5 (01:24:57):
I mean, I think this the offense has to start
and end through Drake May if you want to move
the ball and score any points. The run game was
a little better last week. That didn't really do anything
for you. I think you need to Drake May's got
to get comfortable in the pocket. You got to make plays,
and then if that works, then you want to run
the ball and grind it out after that. That's that's

(01:25:19):
all well and good, But I think it's got to
start with May.

Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
Throw to score win. That's the formula you so taught
me that, man.

Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
So it's almost fifty minutes till kickoff starts here when
the Patriots the La Rams mike a topic du jure.
Every single week seems to be offensive line combinations. We're
close to seeing warm ups comments here in a minute.
Should we be looking forward to the same combination on
the offensive line this week?

Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
I think so.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
I think so. There was no uh shenanigans with rotations
this week, no Michael Menu moving around or anything like
that. That seems like they're gonna roll in with the same
group again. So, uh, they've been talking about wanting continuity.
They've got some continuity. Now it's time to start playing
better and playing more consistently. And I think we've seen
baby steps along the way.

Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
I was gonna say, I think you can see maybe
a little hint of the continuity helping this team.

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Yeah, yeah, I think so. And like, like we said,
there's this very active front, very disruptive front. Guys, they're
gonna have energy for all sixty minutes. So just excited
to see how the offensive line does. It's it's not
obviously quite on the same level of Drake May, but
anytime you're able to get some continuity with the same
guys out there, you know, my expectations rise a little bit.
It's not like, all right, geez, we got you know,

(01:26:27):
old rookie that we signed three days ago as starting
at center, Like, here we go, let's see what happens.

Speaker 3 (01:26:31):
It's art.

Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
These guys have been in there, they've been practicing together.
We've been talking about this for a while. Now, let's
play better. Let's not make stupid mistakes, let's not you know,
let the rush come right up the middle. Like they
were doing early in the year. They've been better on
that stuff, so hopefully their progress continues.

Speaker 4 (01:26:46):
And I'm a believer in the continuity has helped them
maybe a little bit. Again. You think you said baby steps, Paul,
I know you're a big PFF guy, then Darien Low,
I don't think grated out so well, if you believe
the PFF was it, was it he that I think
they had a struggling I couldn't tell you, Matt.

Speaker 5 (01:27:03):
Yeah, I don't have I don't look at the PFF now,
So ball tell you my alballs told me that last week.
I thought the pass protection was a little bit better,
but Drake May wasn't as good handling it. So I
think the numbers probably would tell you that they were
under pressure every bit as much as they have been.
But I thought a lot of that pressure was on
Drake May.

Speaker 3 (01:27:21):
Last week. I think there was an.

Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
Early one that a when you whift, but beyond that,
I didn't see a lot of egregious breakdowns. Now, the
Bears don't really get after the passer very much either.
I mean, Monte Sweat's a good player, but that's about it.

Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
Did you think that.

Speaker 5 (01:27:39):
I thought May was looking to run last week, not
like jittery, like isn't let's not make it call.

Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
H mac Jones. Now my work, my work, He's my guy.

Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
Now this is this is this is Drake May we're
talking about Okay, this is this is an athletic Drew
bledsoe here, okay, perfect, okay, all right, okay, that's my
part off.

Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 5 (01:28:00):
So I thought he was looking to make some places
with his feet last week early in the game and
ran himself into some trouble. More so than we that
it was just constant breakdowns this week. Mike's been talking
about it all week. Brayden Fisk, Jared Verse, Kobe Turner,
Byron Young Turner. This could be a different story. He's

(01:28:25):
a young, physical, athletic front seven the I'll have their
hands full.

Speaker 4 (01:28:31):
Okay. So I'm old enough, and I was saying, do
they try to establish a run? As you very nicely
illustrate that point, there is this one of those days
where you come out four wide and as you said, Mike,
throw to score and try to jump out early, that
would be that would be I.

Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
Don't think that. I just don't think that's in the
the a VP DNA of this offense. I think that
they're gonna do what they do and try to get
the wide zone going and build off of that, and uh,
you know, I I think it can work, but they've
got to execute it.

Speaker 5 (01:29:03):
The London first drive in Jacksonville, a lot of quick throws,
short sideways, get it out, you know, mitigate the pass rush.
That way could be Matt could that could be a
part of the equation today. I wonder if the Rams
are going to have anything because I thought Chicago did
a better job than the previous opponents of making sure

(01:29:24):
they had someone sort of looking after May. Tennessee did
that in the second half of their game, app or
May ran wild in the first half. I thought they
started more, you know, accounting a little bit more. So
I'd be curious to see how the Rams handle that today.
Do they look at what's been on tape and see
how how often May has been running and try to
put an end to that.

Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
I think the first time May try to run last.

Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
Week, he got stopped for two or three yard game
on a guy who was clearly spying him.

Speaker 4 (01:29:51):
So there's tape out there and people are seeing that
May's not afraid to run, will run if you're not disciplined,
and he was having some success doing it as a
Patriots pregame social fueled by Duncan. Is now to the
warm up stage. We've got the blue jerseys? Are those
the home blues? Mike with the with the dirty pants?

Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
Right? They look dirty pants, Matt, I don't I don't mind.

Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
That looks better than they all blue, much better.

Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
Yeah, No, I like them. I like I like them better.
I just I just wish that the stripes on the
pants match the stripes on the shirt. But that's all right,
we'll get there someday.

Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
So that means what are we going to get?

Speaker 21 (01:30:28):
You know?

Speaker 4 (01:30:28):
The rems?

Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
Let's well, the Rams will be in bone white.

Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
Well, limit our UNI talk to this, but the Rams
have some of the best unis maybe one of the
great helmets in the league.

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
Oh the old ones you mean or the current ones?

Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
The current ones? Like those?

Speaker 5 (01:30:43):
The helmet is helmet, I its mad may be the
best helmet it might be.

Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Yeah, the are you talking specifically the redone version of
it or you're just saying generally that style of Rams
helmet that they've always had is one of your favorites.

Speaker 5 (01:30:56):
I like the gold in the I like the yellow
and the blue and it pops. But I don't like
the changes they made to the I think they had
a classic uniform that they kind of wrecked.

Speaker 4 (01:31:07):
So they're going with white, Well what do you think
they're going with?

Speaker 5 (01:31:09):
White shirt, blue pant, white shirt, yellow pant.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
I mean, what do they wear?

Speaker 3 (01:31:15):
I don't know what they wear? And for po all bone,
do they wear pants?

Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
Bone on bones?

Speaker 3 (01:31:20):
Will they wear pants? I hope?

Speaker 7 (01:31:22):
So?

Speaker 3 (01:31:22):
Yeah, the bone, the bone, white with the with the
yellow and like those blue like kind.

Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
Of well, you hate things that look kind of dirty
the bone.

Speaker 3 (01:31:30):
That's kind of like Mike I told you during the week.
I don't like these uniforms.

Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Don't like a bone.

Speaker 5 (01:31:36):
I think they had a classic uniform that was in it,
certainly in the top three. The classic Vince Ferraga super
Bowl against the Steelers. That's a classic cousin Vince. That
was the classic uniform. Yeah, you know he was really
my cousin.

Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
I do know that.

Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
Yeah, as we're seeing Joey Sly warm up, the previous
shot was Drake May along with Joe Milton warming up.
I figure that might give me an opportunity to discuss
was it our friend Mike Greese who mentioned Milton being
a practice player of the week, and I wonder what
that's entailing for Milton.

Speaker 3 (01:32:10):
What is he doing Scout team, you know, and is that, you.

Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
Know, mirroring Caleb Williams. I'm with you, you know, doing stuff,
Like what is it that he's doing that he's being
recognized by the coaching staff.

Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
What do you think Mike acting his acting job, pretending
to be other quarterbacks that he is not.

Speaker 5 (01:32:24):
But is that what he's doing every week now? I
think it's probably reasonable to assume he did it for
Caleb Williams.

Speaker 3 (01:32:29):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:32:30):
I wonder if every week that he's one of the
practice players, if he's doing other positions.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
Maybe he's just throwing it really far and everyone's just
so impressed by it. They're like, just give him a
practice player of the week because we like watching his
giant arm.

Speaker 4 (01:32:44):
I mean, because look, they've got a lot of guys
to try to develop on this team. But you wonder,
for a guy he's not getting any practice reps. He's
getting Scout team reps. That's it that he's getting. So
you wonder we're not allowed to see what's going on
in practice as far as that's concerned. You wonder what
Joe Milton's developed is like, you know, because he's certainly
a project.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
I would say he's got to steal reps. That's why
they say, Paul, he's got a steal reps somehow.

Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
It's the mental reps to the VR reps.

Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
Oh, he's the idiot big on the v arch. You're
od set too, that Joel Milton.

Speaker 5 (01:33:14):
But I do wonder how much quarterback he's playing on
the scout team or if it's other things that he's doing,
you know. And again, Caleb Williams certainly makes sense that
he was, you know, simulating a bobul athletic quarterback running
around and being an athlete.

Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
That's what you're skeptical of him doing.

Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
Matthew Stafford, I'm not skeptical of anything. I'm wondering. How
come when you wonder, no want to give you any
hard time.

Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
I just can't see Joe Milton a little sensitive their
ageous they bully me.

Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
Listen up, old man.

Speaker 4 (01:33:48):
We're looking at the wait wide receivers. Have they has
the log jam a wide receiver been solved?

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
I think so. I think when you heard Alex van
Pelt say it, this week, and I was wondering how
it might play out because he said, I think we
settled on our group. Uh, and now I think you're
seeing it. These are all guys who are under contract
next year. We haven't really mentioned Taekwon Thorndon big disappointment
just to miss on a second round pick two years out.
I mean it's just, of course, everybody doesn't need to

(01:34:14):
rehash it all. But just never was able to really
stack some days and start to build on his production
and had a couple of good days at camp. I
remember Evan being like, I'm not going to take it
the cheese again on Taekwon, And he did have a few,
you know, good days in camp over the last couple
of years, but ultimately just couldn't ever put it all
together in a game consistently, couldn't translate his speed struggle

(01:34:36):
with the physical parts of the game. Any kind of
contested catch usually was going the other way. He just
doesn't contact balance. Think they talk about being able to
go up and fight for the ball. He just would
get bullied at the contact point consistently. And like I said,
the speed, you drafted him for speed. He's one of
those guys that time's fast, but just doesn't It doesn't
jump off the field.

Speaker 4 (01:34:56):
Mike. Is it the ultimate irony that we're ninety minutes
into the pregame show and we're just now getting around
to Taekwon Thornon? You know why forgotten player? Yeah, there's
nothing to sit here memorable about him other than talk
about he now takes his place along with a lot
of other people as being a patriot bust. And the
question that I have about that is, you know, we're

(01:35:17):
moving forward and the need is so heightened for a
number one wide receiver. Does this team have the people
who can scout and find that person who can be
a number one receiver? Or do you have to spend
mon in the offseason and target that person in free
agency because that person's developed under somebody else.

Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure what it says. I mean,
I guess it's you know, it's interesting to me because
we always wonder like who who all these draft picks
kind of belong to, Like who claims them within the
organization where they build guys or were they Matt Grow
guys or Elliot Wolf guys and all that, And I
think at least this message tells you is this. They're
not really tied to anybody. And as we progressed along

(01:35:57):
the season, Taekwon Thornton fell down the depth chart. These
other guys have emerged, and they said explicitly, we want
to give the young guys a chance. I still considered
Taekwon Thornton a young guy here, and I think he
got a chance. And I think the other guys they've
just determined he's he's not going to be able to
hack it in this league the way we need him too,
and that's why they.

Speaker 5 (01:36:13):
I don't know what's going on in practice, but he
really never got a chance in games this year like
to do anything. Really, he been inactive more often than not.
And then when he has been active, it was like
Born last week, you know, like you know, sparing snaps
here and there. Born didn't get any But that said,
I was with you guys, you and Evan during the

(01:36:34):
course of the summer. I thought he had a strong
training camp. I thought he had a strong I think
he's had three really good training camps. He's never been
able to bring any of that onto the game field.
With the lone flash of an exception of that rookie
year game in Cleveland when the game was over, and
he had a.

Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Couple of plays those two touchdowns.

Speaker 5 (01:36:54):
You know, and other than that, he just was not
able to make plays on the ball down the field
when given the opportunity. And the last straw was probably
that one that he couldn't catch against the Jets where
May got out of the pocket off off platform.

Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
Matt loves when you use those terms, Mike, Well, you.

Speaker 4 (01:37:11):
Just had another one. I'm trying to remember what that was.

Speaker 3 (01:37:13):
You said, made a play in the ball that another
word for Is that another word for a catch?

Speaker 5 (01:37:17):
No, Well, because you have many of those, Yeah, it
is another word for a catch. But it's just like
it's a specific play, like the ball's thrown up there,
not necessarily because he's wide opening the clear and he
you know, there's a play.

Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
To be made, you know, go up and make it.

Speaker 5 (01:37:32):
That wasn't like a contested catch, just it's not a
routine play.

Speaker 3 (01:37:38):
But go up and make a play on the ball.
And he didn't.

Speaker 5 (01:37:41):
That was and that might be the final straw, that
one against the Jets where Drake May may have made
the best throw he's made as a pro five games.

Speaker 3 (01:37:48):
You know, you put it right on his hands. He
couldn't you couldn't hold on.

Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
To it behind the scenes. Uh, didn't matter what the
regime was. I know that I've joked with other people before,
is who's the wide receiver scout for the Pittsburgh Steelers
And wouldn't you hire that person? Like how the Steelers
just it doesn't matter. They get a guy every single
year that can play a little bit wide receiver. Doesn't
seem for years and years and years, who's their.

Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
Scout at wide receiver and can they bring him here
for her?

Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
You know, they've had a good they've had a good run.
They really have developing guys and yeah, no question, that's
an important position for the Pats. And you know, another
opportunity today, I'd say for Jalen h I always gave.

Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
My buddy Kevin Colbert all the credit for that. We'll
see if that continues now that he's gone.

Speaker 5 (01:38:32):
He's been gone for a little while now, and we'll
see if they start to incorporate new guys. You know,
Pickens has been good, but we'll see because it was
just a steady stream of fourth round picks, sixth round
pick you know, Antonio Brown, Manuel Sanders, you know it
wasn't always you know, first and second round picks.

Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
It was.

Speaker 5 (01:38:52):
It was draft and develop exactly the way Elliott Wolf
has talked about wanting to do. So the opportunity is there,
and I this is something that came up during the week,
Matt when you know from Mike and I, well, they
should really just not even try to do that because
they have not shown the ability of being able to
draft and develop wide receivers.

Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
And like resoundly, I would say, notice.

Speaker 5 (01:39:13):
That you can't do that. You can't stop trying. You
just have to keep working at it until you get
it right, you know. And Fred brought up you know
a lot of people said that about tight end and
then they drafted Gronkowski and all of a sudden they
could draft a tight end.

Speaker 4 (01:39:28):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:39:28):
So you can't just quit because you haven't had a
lot of success at it yet.

Speaker 3 (01:39:32):
Be better.

Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
No, I think you got Drake May now, and that's
intriguing and exciting. And you know, you can see.

Speaker 5 (01:39:38):
How he's the awareness of wide receiver though, doesn't it
for sure?

Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
And I mean I think you can see why guys
would want to come here and play with him. He
can throw the ball down the field if you get
a guy that can separate down the field and has
a little explosiveness to his game, like that could be
what takes this starts to take this offense to the
next level. I just if I were a wide receiver
with some juice, I would look at the skill set
to Drake Mayn and say, that's a guy I want
to go play with. And you know, I think it's

(01:40:03):
I think we don't we don't talk too enough about
you know, this kind of came out after Brady left,
but like you know, he was very demanding of receivers too,
and I think he played a part in some of
the difficulties in trying to develop guys. And it's probably
for a good thing because he was holding the offense
to such a high standard. But you know, there's certainly
part of it along the way of like, well, if
he was a little more understanding, you think some of
these guys might have, you know, been able to get

(01:40:24):
some something going with their career. I mean, I'm not
going to complain about Tom Brady ruining receivers around here, but.

Speaker 5 (01:40:30):
I radically say, no, none of those guys ever went
anywhere else and did anything, you know, like if they
had an ability that just was wasted because Brady wouldn't
look at them. You know, Nikhil Harry would have panned out,
or you know, Aaron Dobson would have panned out somewhere
like these guys like Brandon Tate, you know, like he
was a return guy. Like none of those guys ever
did anything when they left.

Speaker 4 (01:40:52):
You know what I mean you mentioned earlier.

Speaker 5 (01:40:54):
I do you're trying to think of someone who did No, no,
I just because I'm sure I forgot somebody.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
No No, I think I think generally you're right. I'm
also just thinking of how hard it is as a
player to have a rough start to your career and
then to go somewhere else and and catch on, and
you know, still necessarily judging a guy by that kind
of standard, whereas if he had gotten a good start
right away, could it have been different. I mean, I
get what you're saying.

Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
Yeah, I just don't think I agree with that one
hundred percent. I just don't put the bad start of
the career on the demanding nature of the quarterback, like
trying to get them to run the rolts properly is
not to me, you know, all point deduction.

Speaker 3 (01:41:32):
Yeah, quarterback that's all.

Speaker 5 (01:41:33):
It was be where I need you to be, Be
where where I expect you to be, and I'll throw
you the ball he threw it to Jacoby Myers.

Speaker 2 (01:41:39):
Yeah, but it's also like the mental beatdown of like,
I can't do anything for this guy. He's icing me out.
He's not even gonna throw the ball to me anymore,
and I'm never gonna make it in the NFL. You know,
It's just I just think it's part of the situation.
It's it's that that existed here, that it was really
hard for them to find guys and be able to
develop them. Okay, so usually it doesn't continue.

Speaker 3 (01:41:59):
It's really hard to win title.

Speaker 4 (01:42:00):
Here's my question.

Speaker 5 (01:42:01):
I sent Mike a nice picture of me with Robert, Robert,
Jonathan and Danny Kraft with all the trophies. I said, Mike, Mike,
they call these Lombardi Now what.

Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Was that picture from?

Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
Was that a magazine or something? What I I I mean,
it was like, come on up, Paul.

Speaker 3 (01:42:16):
The whole organization did it. I'm sure. I'm sure Matt
Smith has some of those, and I'm just surprised you win.

Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
I thought you'd be like, I don't need a picture
with the Lombardi's What are going to do with that?

Speaker 3 (01:42:26):
This guy? Why wouldn't I be a team player? When
have I ever demonstrated the ability?

Speaker 18 (01:42:31):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
What time is this that we gotta be here?

Speaker 7 (01:42:33):
What?

Speaker 3 (01:42:35):
Okay, that's probably fair.

Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
We gotta go up there at three o'clock in the
afternoon to take a pic.

Speaker 3 (01:42:39):
I don't need a pick three o'clock. I lived it
like you've ever been here at three o'clock. Please, all right,
here's my question to you, Mike.

Speaker 4 (01:42:45):
You're a city. You alluded to the fact that who
gets credit, who gets blame? And I'm not here to
point fingers or get credit and blame. But I guess
my question is, you know two key people who were
here with Bill. I don't know how much of a
philosophy they share from a scouting is you know Elliott
Wolf mac Rowe Okay, they do have, we believe the quarterback.

(01:43:05):
So as they're scouting wide receivers and looking at wide receivers,
are they changing some of the things that maybe they
looked at at a wide receiver, you know, to a
guy who's a little bit more mobile, a little bit
more athletic, And is there the traits that they're looking
for at wide receiver. Do they adapt and change with
maybe something that they did even just five years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:43:24):
Yeah, I think well, I mean I think the slow
position might be one that I mean, you have Pop Douglas,
who I think would probably be a maybe a little
bit more high volume guy if he was in that
kind of old offense with Brady. So I think that
they want guys who can play inside and outside and
they you know, stay out there. For me though, my
kind of philosophy, like this year, I just feel like
they just they need explosive player, Like he doesn't have

(01:43:46):
to be big. I'm not really going to be interested
in the big contest to catch guys. That's not usually
my jam anyway, but guys who can separate and just
move the needle on for a defense to look at
and be like, this guy has got some juice and
we need to be aware of him. And if you
can add that, I mean.

Speaker 5 (01:44:04):
Wasn't he That's what he was advertised as.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
A little bit. But I also just think he's so
I mean, he's so specific. He's so tall and narrow
and you know, so he's just kind of straight line speed,
you know.

Speaker 5 (01:44:15):
And nine route guy.

Speaker 3 (01:44:16):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
There you go nine tout and comebacks. I mean that's
you know, you're either going to try to get him
off and come back or you're gonna beat him over
the top. I just I want somebody. I mean, Paul
mentioned Antonio Brown. I get Antonio Brown is like a
Hall of Fame. But you just saw that guy was
so electric and had so much juice to his game.
And there are guys like that too that aren't necessarily
Marvin Harrison Junior up at the top of the draft.

(01:44:38):
I mean I fell in love with Molik Neighbors when
I first saw him. I'm like, this guy is like,
that's it.

Speaker 5 (01:44:42):
That'sighbors, the kind of guy that I would be looking at,
you know, and Marvin Harrison like, what's the second round?

Speaker 2 (01:44:47):
Elik Neighbors look like I don't know, but that's the
body frame, not I like Jalen Polk, but not that type.
Not a big, like oh, tough hands guy, like a
guy who was electric and has ability to make plays
with the ball.

Speaker 4 (01:45:00):
And he did an excellent job answering that, by the way.

Speaker 5 (01:45:02):
And notes by the way that they should have taken
one of those guys, like just think about because that
was I wouldn't say it was a loud argument, but
that was an argument that some people made. Marvin Harrison,
Like just take Marvin Harrison, like he's a generational player.

Speaker 3 (01:45:17):
He may be. Can you imagine what this team would
look like right now with Marvin Harrison on it and
no Drake May.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
Can you imagine what it look like with Joe Alt?
Like just trade down Joe Alt? Like that? That was
another comedy.

Speaker 5 (01:45:29):
Could be able to tell any you could have done that,
and you could have nailed the pick, like Marvin Harrison
very well, like Marvin Harrison could.

Speaker 3 (01:45:37):
Very well be the next Jerry Rice. You could have
nailed it. I don't know, but your team would be
a mess and you'd have no hope for the future.

Speaker 4 (01:45:46):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:45:46):
And then you'd be in a draft this coming draft that.

Speaker 5 (01:45:50):
Doesn't look like it has really even one guy good
cam Wood might be the number one quarterback, But like.

Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
What about the kid from Georgia who he looked at
her last night? But he's been.

Speaker 4 (01:46:01):
Awful, No, but last night he sort of returned to
four maybe.

Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
Huh, Yeah, he was good.

Speaker 4 (01:46:04):
I like how he looks.

Speaker 3 (01:46:05):
He played well last night. I like how he looks.

Speaker 4 (01:46:07):
Before we get to the Sunday six Pack. I'm just
gonna get this email out of the way. This is
from Emery, who writes the only team with fewer points
per game of the Patriots are the New York Football Giants.
Yet I still think Dable is one of the best
offensive minds in the league. That's right in Paul's wheelhouse.
The impelt could be bad, but I think the Dable
demonstrates that sometimes bad personnel just can't be overcome. That

(01:46:29):
is from Emory.

Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
I know you're, if not the president, at least the
vice president of the Brian Dabele fan.

Speaker 5 (01:46:35):
It's a great it's a great analogy. It's a great
point for what I'm talking about. Do you ever watch
the Giants play? No, God, Now, you ever see how
many times there's a play to be made and they
just can't make it.

Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
Yeah, it's not like this.

Speaker 5 (01:46:49):
It's Daniel Jones throws the ball off a guy's face
mask and it bounces in the air and gets picked
off in the red zone. Like if that's what was
happening all the time, and the Patriots were on the
verge of scoring twenty five thirty points every week. But
they're ineptitude, Their lack of ability is costing them opportunities.
That's not what happens with the Patriots. The Patriots are
a slog to move. The Patriots had the like the

(01:47:13):
longest fifty yard drive to tie a game with no
time left with miraculous play after miraculous play, Like that's
what it takes to move the ball. They don't get
anybody like besides the fact that Brian Dabele is not
the offensive coordinator of the Giants, he's the head coach,
which is different.

Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
It's just different. And Daniel Jones is really really.

Speaker 5 (01:47:38):
Costing him like Drake May is not costing them opportunities
a lot. I'm not telling you he's been perfect, because
he hasn't been, but he's made way more plays that
out of nothing, like not schemed plays like I'm going
to take off and run twenty four yards on third
and sixteen on this play, Like how many times has
that happened?

Speaker 11 (01:47:59):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:48:00):
You know that's not a scheme.

Speaker 5 (01:48:02):
I think what they get, in other words, is just
basically been on their own. I don't think that they've
been schemed a lot to help it help it along.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
What do you think is just the lesson is from
watching the Giants try to keep running, like keep giving
Daniel Jones opportunities by putting weapons around him, but he
just is a This.

Speaker 3 (01:48:18):
Is a great topic.

Speaker 5 (01:48:19):
Can I also add and like those other guys that
I mentioned earlier in the show, Brian Davill is on
the verge of being fired and is being you know,
that's being talked about constantly.

Speaker 3 (01:48:29):
This is my point.

Speaker 5 (01:48:30):
When when you have an offense that's mired at the
bottom of the league, you are automatically in the spotlight
critics the subject to being fired. Yep, Like that's not unfair.
That's the way that's you could say it's unfair in
life the business stay check, that's the business that they're in.

Speaker 4 (01:48:45):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:48:45):
When you have the worst of something.

Speaker 5 (01:48:47):
Josh McDaniels had the worst offense in the league when
he was the offensive coordinator of the Saint Louis Ram's
way back in the day. When after the first time
he left, he got fired. That's what happens like that
that that's that's how it all works. To your point
about Daniel Jones, it is a cautionary tail, Mike, because

(01:49:08):
you have to know in your heart that he's not
good enough.

Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
It's like mac Jones. You knew it when you see it.

Speaker 5 (01:49:15):
You knew he wasn't good enough, and that's but don't
like you labor the point and give him another contract,
which is what the Giants did, and that McDaniel's firing
helped bring about one of the great dancers of all time,
Danny am Mondola, who was on that team with Josh
and now Danny A. Mindol is on the verge of
really making a name for himself, something to really be

(01:49:36):
proud about.

Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:49:38):
Good for him is what I say.

Speaker 2 (01:49:39):
Dancing in the starts she's talking about. Yeah, he's good
in the finals.

Speaker 4 (01:49:42):
Oh, I think he's run the semifinals.

Speaker 5 (01:49:44):
He's note to selth it sounds like another guy that
Matt Sneaky hates.

Speaker 4 (01:49:48):
Matt. Let's do the Sunday six pack please.

Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
This is the Sunday six pack, So kick back and
listen up positioning.

Speaker 5 (01:49:55):
I'm getting to getting the fis back game.

Speaker 7 (01:49:56):
You better bring a big sack, get it mixed jack
game to win again.

Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
This is the Sunday sixth Bad.

Speaker 4 (01:50:02):
All right, let's go to the analytics corner of the
room and Paul Perillo to tell us how bad we
are at picking football.

Speaker 3 (01:50:08):
Games.

Speaker 4 (01:50:08):
But we have a feel for the game on the
over and unders, but we don't have a feel the
game when it's when we just discussed which team we
think is gonna win.

Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
Correct.

Speaker 5 (01:50:17):
Paul and Matt three and three last week, Mike was
two and four, So that allowed us to get one
game closer to the leader.

Speaker 3 (01:50:23):
Because Mike is in the lead. Four games under five hundred,
twenty seven.

Speaker 5 (01:50:28):
Thirty one and two, Matt and Paul twenty six thirty
two and two. A lot of bad, A lot of bad.

Speaker 3 (01:50:38):
I just want to say.

Speaker 5 (01:50:39):
This because I feel like Mike and I deserve, you know,
a little, a little defending. We pick every game with
the spread for the whole season, Okay, for the whole season.
Mike is eighty two sixty seven and three and I'm
eighty one sixty eight three.

Speaker 4 (01:50:54):
So I get it.

Speaker 5 (01:50:55):
Blame morel He's picking the games he knows you're gonna lose.

Speaker 3 (01:50:58):
Yes, yes, we just can't pick a select amount of time.
It's Matt's fault.

Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
I think I get to we're gonna play that's what
I pick. I get to this point too in the week,
and I think I've forgotten what I picked on the
show and I'm ready to like get the Patriots game going,
so I don't feel.

Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
Had this one.

Speaker 5 (01:51:13):
No one wants to hear it. I always say this
like no one ever wants. No one wants to know
about your golf game. No one wants to know about
your lost bets fantasy team. No one wants to know
about your fantasy team. Right, those are always the things
that I go with. But I have had a lot
of crushing losses. Yeah, spoken like a real lose like
Tampa Bay. I had a nice, nice upset special last
week with Tampa Bay against San Francisco, and they lose

(01:51:34):
on the last play.

Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
Of the game.

Speaker 4 (01:51:35):
All right, the six and three kicking off the six
and three Green Bay Packers are at Soldiers Field. This
is with a tough part of the beer skill. Imagine
now that they have to play the tough part of
their schedule with a four and five Bears in disarray
host green Bay. Green Bay is a six point favorite.

Speaker 3 (01:51:51):
Paul, love these division games. You don't you know what
you have? They ever see?

Speaker 5 (01:51:54):
This is a really good division.

Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
You never see like Green Bay in Chicago play. It
almost never happens.

Speaker 5 (01:51:59):
Yeah, I'll take Green Bay in this game. I think
Jordan Love is a little bit healthier.

Speaker 3 (01:52:04):
Than he has been. I think that could be a
big lift for the Packers offense.

Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
Yeah, I'm with you. I also just Kayleb Williams apologized
to the team after Shane Waldron was fired.

Speaker 3 (01:52:14):
Oh did he really go?

Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
Well, yeah, that's a report out today. Will stepped up
and said my apologize.

Speaker 3 (01:52:20):
I'm mildly impressed with that. Should I not be?

Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
No, I don't know, know. You know, there's so many
instances where I would want to sit here and say
go against the grain. And Chicago is pissed because of
how they've played last week. Caleb Williams is now apologizing
and things like that, and I'm gonna go against the
green and pick Chicago. But for the life of me,
after that performance last week, there's no way I could
pick the Bears, which means they're probably gonna cover. But
I will also pick Green Bay next in the one

(01:52:45):
o'clock slot, Another really good team, the two and seven
LA Raiders, are at Miami, who might have caught a
little bit of a their season might have turned when
they beat the Rams last week. The Dolphins seven and
a half point favorites against the Raiders, Mike.

Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
Yeah, that's crazy how Tua gets back in there and
all of a sudden, the fine tune machine is just
running again and it's starting to look good. So I'm
gonna take the Raiders at home to keep the momentum going.
I think, like you said, Matt about this game, Dolphins
need that game.

Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
Yep, Dolphins. You're picking the Dolphins, Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (01:53:15):
MAT's picking the Dolphins as well.

Speaker 2 (01:53:17):
Paul.

Speaker 5 (01:53:19):
Yeah, I don't like that half point that got added on,
but I'll take Miami too.

Speaker 3 (01:53:24):
I think for Raiders as.

Speaker 4 (01:53:25):
Long ride for the Raiders to come and get their
heads kicked in the one of the Marquis games on
the slate for Week eleven. This is a rivalry game here, Paul.
I don't know if you know. There's a big division
rivalry game between the seven and three Baltimore Ravens who
go to Pittsburgh to take on this seven and two Steelers,
which you call it off air a slobber knocker. Yes, yes,
a slaber knock, except you know what, now, it ain't

(01:53:47):
a sloby knock. Probably gonna be a higher scoring, probably
a little bit higher scoring than that.

Speaker 3 (01:53:51):
They happen because both of these teams have been scoring
a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:53:53):
The Ravens are three and a half point favorites on
the road.

Speaker 2 (01:53:58):
Mike, Yeah, I still, I still don't fully believe in
the Steelers. I'm gonna take the Ravens. But I will
say if the Ravens, this would be so the Ravens
to lose this game. I don't think just when you
feel like you gotta beat on them, they they lose
a game you think they shouldn't. But good game. I'm
gonna take the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (01:54:11):
Paul, Yeah, I thought the strangest stat that I saw
was this is only gonna be Lamar Jackson's fifth start
career against Pittsburgh, which is the.

Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
Most Pittsburgh thing.

Speaker 5 (01:54:23):
Ever, how many times they've avoided having to play Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
But I will take the Steelers at home to pull
off upset. I'm wing outright.

Speaker 4 (01:54:33):
I'm gonna contradict myself here. I don't I think this
is a game that Baltimore wins. I think Baltimore wins it, outright.
I'm not a believer in the Steelers yet. However, I'm
a believer long term in Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 3 (01:54:45):
Boys.

Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
He really proved himself as a good program runner. Volunteers,
not hostages. That's what he wants in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Baltimore.
Please next boy this, I'd love to watch this game.
The four and sixth Indianapolis Colts travel to New Jersey
to take on the New Jersey Jets, who are four
point favorites against Anthony Richardson back in the starting lineup

(01:55:07):
for the Clots.

Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
Paul.

Speaker 5 (01:55:09):
I thought that I would not be taking the Jets
at any point again the rest of the year, and
then the Colts decided to go back to Anthony Richardson,
So give me the Jets.

Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Paul, same, Paul, I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
I'm taking the Jets too.

Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
Can't believe it at four o'clock today, I've heard people
refer to this as the game of the year. On
the schedule, the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs at nine and
zero go to Buffalo to take on the eight and
two Bills. With the Bills are two and a half
point favorites against the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (01:55:35):
Michael, Yeah, I've taken Kansas City all year.

Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
This is the one time I am going to divert
from that plan. I'm going to take the Bills at home.

Speaker 3 (01:55:44):
Paul, Yeah, I have Buffalo as well.

Speaker 5 (01:55:46):
Buffalo is really Josh Allen has done very well against
Patrick Mahomes in the regular season, yes, not the playoffs,
and this is a regular season game.

Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
So I will take the Bills.

Speaker 4 (01:55:55):
I've gonna contradict myself once again. The Chiefs are not
playing that well yet they're nine to zero. I think
to pick against the Chiefs is foolish, and so I
will pick the Chiefs in this game.

Speaker 3 (01:56:05):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:56:06):
And that brings us to the game here at your
little stadium, Foxborough. We're the three and seven New England
Patriots host the four and five LA Rams. The Rams
road favorites are giving four points.

Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Mike, I wish I could do it.

Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
I wish they could keep the good vibes going. I,
just like you said, Matt, think the Rams need this
game a little bit more than the Patriots do. Patriots
working some new pieces back into their defense. If they're
able to contribute more than I think they're going to,
I think that the Patriots will have a chance, But
I like the Rams in this game. I'm gonna say
twenty seven to seventeen.

Speaker 5 (01:56:42):
Paul, I see it kind of similar to the way
Mike said. Obviously, turnovers can change things in a hurry
and mistakes and whatnot. But I think the Rams will
do what Matt said at the very beginning of the
show and show the urgency and desperation that they need

(01:57:02):
to win this game to stay in the race, very
tight race in the NFC West. Can't afford to lose
to a three win team in consecutive weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:57:12):
So I will take the Rams twenty seven to sixteen.

Speaker 4 (01:57:17):
Do I have to pick a number here?

Speaker 7 (01:57:18):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:57:19):
Is that whatever you want? Okay, you're the host.

Speaker 4 (01:57:20):
No, So I think both things can be right. I
think the Rams are desperate. I think the Patriots are
going to be fighting like hell to try to win
consecutive games. I think the Rams are gonna win the game,
but I think the Patriot's cover. I think this is
going to be a close overused word that I've been
using in this our forty five minutes or so, tractor pull.

Speaker 3 (01:57:39):
I think this is going to be a tractor pull.
Noally keeps it close.

Speaker 4 (01:57:42):
But I think the Rams win because they're the more
desperate team.

Speaker 2 (01:57:45):
Tractor pull.

Speaker 3 (01:57:46):
What's that like?

Speaker 4 (01:57:47):
I haven't seen any generally, generally, not aesthetically fleasing right right, Generally.

Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
We've generally seen nine of those this year.

Speaker 5 (01:57:54):
I would say the Houston game probably wasn't a tractor
pull at forty one to twenty one, but.

Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
Every other game was what if you love punts? Oh
we got something for you.

Speaker 5 (01:58:02):
Yeah, well, Rice Barrenger right bang right down the middle
of the field.

Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
Right. Wow, sneak, He's sneaky, nagative.

Speaker 2 (01:58:12):
That's a sneaky No.

Speaker 5 (01:58:13):
I just like I'm okay with making a bounce and
go out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
How about that he keep it away from the guys,
don't let them return.

Speaker 4 (01:58:20):
It, all right, Mike. Final thoughts as we're wrapping things.

Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
Up here, I just want to see Drake may make
some strides today. Maybe just limit the turnovers to be great,
get back to that and continue to see him, I think,
as Paul would say too, like just operate the offense.
Operate the offense, get the ball out quick. You know,
look like you're growing comfortable within the scheme and making
the plays that are there, not trying to force it,
and that would be that would be a positive winner loss.

(01:58:43):
If it seems like he continues to take another step
and continues to impress, That's that's all I need at
this point, Paul.

Speaker 5 (01:58:50):
I am so with Mike, but just to be bring
up something different, I'll talk about Christian Barmore and to
a lesser extent, yanik In Gacway and those two newcomers
to the front. What kind of impact can they have
in the game. Can they impact Matthew Stafford? Can they
help the defense? Do the two in a row part
of it? Because they played by far and away their

(01:59:11):
best game of the season last week, and I think
if they do that again, if they have a similar
kind of showing, it's going to start with those guys
up front.

Speaker 4 (01:59:18):
Mike mentioned it earlier in the show, and I'm going
to agree with him. Yes, it's be nice to see
Drake may improve. I'd like to see him bring some
other people along for the ride.

Speaker 5 (01:59:26):
I'd like to see some other people pop a little
bit today, show some movement as the Patriots hopefully are
trending in the right direction and going up, even if
it's not as fast as.

Speaker 4 (01:59:36):
Everybody would like to see. That'll do it for us
for the Patriots pre game social fueled by Duncan. We'll
be back with you to wrap things up, dissect, and
analyze as the Patriots host the Los Angeles Rams. Enjoy
the game everyone.
