know where the new open ends, Paul So, I didn't
know what my Q was.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
I was waiting to be cued by some guitar riffs.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Awesome guitar riffs. As Matt said, get him.

Welcome into the Patriots What what are we doing here?
The Pregame Game Show, The Matriots Pregame Show fueled by Duncan,
and be a good two hours. Oh, I know we're
gonna blast through it and uh, Yeah, it's Deuce, Tamara,
it's Paul, and we don't have Paul like like many
teams in the preseason. We're sitting one of our starters tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
So everybody, we're not going to show everything.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
No, there is a new host to the show, however,
he is unavailable tonight, so you guys got to just
deal with this one. It's it's peaking in the planning
in the preseason. There you go, so excited to be
here tonight. And for those of you who haven't been
watching Patriots Unfiltered, you can see we've got a brand new,
beautiful studio here, and we're very excited about that. To
go changes a lot of change, to change.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
It's not just like Gerard Mayo and Drake may We've
got a new studio, studios.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
It's great. We're excited. We've been you know, a couple
of weeks here, we've been going through training camp and
you know, just taking it all in. I mean, it's
a whole new era here, to the Drake may era,
the Jacoby Brissette or whatever you want to call it.
I'm sure we'll get a little of all that tonight.
But I don't know, Tomara, how do you feel about
this this new season. We're kicking things off tonight here,
and it's kind of exciting, right.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I'm honestly excited to see something other than practice, like
guys actually tackling each other, actually seeing what this offense
looks like. I don't want to talk about too much because
I know we're gonna get into that. But we've seen
a lot of practice. We've seen a lot of the
same thing repetition over and over again. So it's gonna
be nice see that against a new team, right, and.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Then it's we're gonna ge probably about the halftime tonight,
and we'll be like, Okay, I'm ready for the regular
season to start, yep.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Oh yeah, yeah, I mean, I I do agree with Samaraw.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
You know, you get a little monotony out on the
practice field every day. There'll be at least some you know,
I think in listening to Gerrodmeo earlier in the week,
he said basically that anybody who's healthy will play tonight.
So I think we'll get a chance to see some
of the players that we're all interested. And I don't
mean to be disrespectful because you know, obviously there's ninety

(02:45):
guys on the roster and everybody's got a story. But
I think we want to see how the offense looks,
the new offense under Alex Van Pelt, with Jacoby Brissett
and Drake May. I think we'll get a chance to
see both tonight, at least a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeah, along those lines, I think what I'm kind of
curious about is just You've heard them speak all spring
about we're going to be a running team, and it's
really hard to get a sense of the running game
in practice. And now, you know, not to say that
this is going to be all everything, but to actually
see how well this running game is going to you know,
perform a lot of questions. Along the offensive line, that's
a that's a big question. I think for tonight. They've

(03:19):
been banged up already. I think their depth is going
to be thin tonight. You wonder how that might affect
how they manage some of their quarterbacks out there with
potentially maybe just four real tackles ready to go. But
how does the running game look and are they able
to you know, that foundational piece of this new offense.
Are they able to you know, move the ball a
little bit and open some things up in the passing game.
It seems so much of this offense will be predicated

(03:40):
on that running game.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
So I don't think I need to do my key
to the game anymore because you.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Don't tease that yet. And I notice over there we
still we still have the key, which which Hardy left
so graciously behind with us. I don't do we have
a season long key winner last year Paul I don't recall.
I don't know, but.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
No, I really don't.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
I feel like Paul all won the key the most
amount of times.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Probably it makes sense. But playing in store for you
guys tonight, we'll have our keys to the game coming
up shortly. Will be joined by Darren Gant from Panthers
dot Com give us a little preview of you know,
what's going on in Carolina. I know Bryce Young among
others not expected to play tonight, So we'll see what
Darren has to say, and towards the end we'll we'll
get our over unders as we kind of look and

(04:22):
try to predict what will happen here tonight in the
preseason game.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
Yeah, I mean it's like for everybody else. I mean,
this is we have a little fun in this in
the summer when it's still preseason, and we we have
our eyes on, you know, the rookie class, not just
Drake May, but you got Jalen Polk and Jayvon Baker,
two guys people are interested in in seeing in the
wide receiver corps and you know, so we'll watch some
of that stuff, but we want to have some fun too.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
We want to take this.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
You know, this isn't the you know, the the opener
against Cincinnati that I think will take with a little
bit more seriousness in terms of previewing the matchups and
trying to break down what we think are you know,
some some different matchups that might be able to be
exploited in the A plan. You're not going to get
any of that tonight. You're not going to get any
of that the next three weeks. But you know, we
still have a chance to see you know, like Hardy

(05:07):
used to say, you know, it's our first reference to
our old our old host. You know what's popular and
you're ocular and you know what what what would you
have your.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Peepers peepers peeled exactly.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Yeah, some of the things that we want to look
for tonight, and I think we want to hear from
you as well. You know what, what are some of
the things that you are you know, most looking forward
to watching tonight when the Panthers hit hit the field.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, this is kind of a sleeper thing to look
at tonight. But the kickers, I'm wondering, like when it
comes to them, it's a good one when it comes
to them. Are we going to see both of them tonight?
Or is it going to be more just Rylent that
we see tonight.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, and it's been pretty close back. I mean, you know,
some people are keeping track of all the kicks. I
mean it's it's hard to really discern it's really close.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Yeah, I think Ryland has been a little better, but
they've both been you know, good.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
I would say, not great.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, give us a call a five five pats five hundred,
send us an email web radio Patriots dot com guys.
I just first things first. You know, we probably have
few people tuning in tonight who aren't regular listeners to
either PU or the you know, post training camp practice
recaps that we do. Paul, just starting with you, you know,
what's just been your kind of general takeaway just from
training camp. We think we've had eleven practices. I think

(06:18):
six of them have been padded a couple of them,
tough practices long, it's been hot out there. Just what's
kind of your early impression overall of the team guys.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Yeah, I mean I think there have been periods of
time where there have been things that I'm like, Okay,
you know, I can see I could see some progress there.
See some of the things that they want to do
Defensively that you know, the coverage at times has been
has been pretty tight. Offensively a little bit less consistent,
but when they have had it going, you know, you

(06:47):
see some of the short passing game, you know quick,
you know, there's some rhythm to it, just not sustained enough.
But you know, I think we've seen some moments from Brisset,
and more importantly, I think what we've seen from Drake Man.
I think there are times when he struggled, but I
think there also been times that you sort of look

(07:08):
at it and youel like, and I know, Mike, you've
said this all summer. Just the physical skills that we
were sold on we've seen. Now it's a matter of
finding consistency and continuing that development and getting more comfortable.
I think all of the quarterbacks in all of the
offense in general has not been smooth in terms of

(07:28):
the way that everything has come together, pre snap penalties,
sloppiness with the football, ball on the ground too much,
and the tempo has been erratic. I'd like to see
some of that stuff improve as we continue camp.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, what about you, Tomyri what stood out to you?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I definitely think what stood out to me the most
is that Jacoby Brissett is definitely the most pro ready.
I think there's definitely as a gap between him and
Drake may right now, and that's as expected. So I
don't disagree with Gerrod Mayo wanting to say that he
is the starter to you know, as of now, as
of week one, and I think we've seen that, but
I've also seen Drake may show f lashes of production
as well. Obviously those two minute drills have been the

(08:03):
toughest part for him, but in seven on seven specifically,
you see him continue to produce and get better. And
so if he can move that into eleven on eleven,
eleven on elevens, I think that'd.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Be great for him. Yeah, I think just for me,
one big point, you know, agree with everything you guys
are saying. It's just you know, the loss of Christian
Barmore and the continued questions around Matthew Judon. I would say,
inarguably your two best pass rushers on the roster, who
you know haven't been practicing. We don't know, you know,
what's going to happen with Judon. But I'm a defense guy.
I love the pass rush. I think it's it's critical,

(08:33):
and you know, it's not totally devoid. I mean, you
still have the josh U Chase of the world, and
you know they're able to have some flexibility with you know,
guys like to buy, but none of those guys are
pure pass rushers. So I would just say, for me,
the emerging storyline around the defense is just the question
of the pass rush and where are they going to
generate those snaps that Christian Barmoer, that production that Christian
Barmoer had, and is Matthew Judon going to reenter the

(08:55):
mix at some point?

Speaker 5 (08:56):
Yeah, I think you're right to bring up Judon because
that's sort of the lingering story and it was unfortunate.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
I think.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
That they they let it get this far, I think,
but you know, you can't fix it. I think that
the time to deal with this. The time to address
it was in the off season, before they got to camp.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
They didn't.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
And now I think it's become a problem because as
much as Girod Mao said that they had a good,
good meeting, they felt like they were in a good place.
And then you know, Judah talks to us and he's
talking about still being unhappy, and you know, I said
I'd play and didn't say I didn't say nothing about practice,
and you know, I think it's become an issue. I
don't think we'll see him tonight. You know, based on

(09:36):
the last practice. He wasn't in uniform. So my guess
is he's dealing with something from a physical standpoint, and
that's what Girodd said. You know, all the guys that
are healthy, so they'll probably be you know, a dozen
or so guys tonight that that we won't see, and
I think he'll be one of them.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Yeah. And some of those guys are guys that have
been kind of practicing but also kind of rehabbing, like
Pop Douglas. He's been in a red jersey pretty much
except for one day he tried to sneak out in
the regular jersey and they're like, uh, I'll get that
red jersey back on. You know, guys like Taekwon Thornton
probably not gonna go.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
I don't think you'll see Thornton. You know Joshua uche
really hasn't done much all summer.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
You know he's been out there every day in pads,
but he hasn't really done anything yet. You know those
kinds of guys, you know, chookes A kor Afford. I
think the last three practices we haven't seen Marcus Jones
last four, so I wouldn't expect to see any of
those guys tonight.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
What did you guys think of Christian Gonzalez throughout camp?
I know for some people there thought that he wasn't
as smooth and as solid as he was his last
training camp. Do you still feel like he's knocking some
rust off or do you think he's not exactly I
don't want to say he's not practicing one hundred percent, but
just not putting it all out there at practice.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah. I think it's an interest development, Paul. I mean
it's it's been he's given up some plays. I mean,
there's no other way to put it. I mean I
don't really the one on one stuff where he's maybe
just playing leverage in a drill and you know, the
guy wants to cut inside and usually he would have
health there and he's just you know, practicing that. But
I do think that we talked about this Paul is
he's just so athletic. Sometimes it doesn't look like he's trying.
But I don't think that he's had you know, I

(11:04):
think I would love to have seen him get his
hands on some more balls, just to be a little
bit more around. I do think that Jonathan Jones and
Christian Gonzales are kind of just the two guys right now,
and even when they do special teams periods, those two
guys are working just with like Mike Pellegrino. They are cornerbacks.
That's what they're going to do, but huge questions below them,
and I don't think.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
That's where my concern lies. And I understand I totally
agree with you, Tamara. I don't think Gonzalez has been great,
and I don't think Gerard Mayo thinks that Gonzalez has
been great. And I go back to that, I want
to say last Saturday, where he was asked about his
thoughts on depth at corner and he very unsolicited brought
up you know, you know, and that goes for all

(11:44):
of us, you know, even you know, because the question said,
you know, beyond Gonzo and Jonathan Jones, and he said
even Christian. You know, greatness is is is not owned,
it's rented. You know, you're you know, you're when you're
an established player, it's it's not just okay, that's it.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
You've reached, You've made it.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
So I think that was sort of a message that
he needs to be better too. So I think you're
right that he's kind of been a little uneven. But
my concern lies, you know, beyond that. I think it'll
be Gonzales and Jones. I don't know, is it is
it Alex Austen, is it Marcus Jones? Is it Isaiah Bolden,
Marco Wilson. You know, I could make a case for

(12:23):
any and none of those guys.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
That makes sense.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
That's exactly how I feel. And Marcus Jones put him
as another one who unfortunately has missed the last handful
of practices. Would have loved to have seen him tonight
on the kickoffs, which is another thing that we'll get
to see tonight for the first time, kind of live
and in person is this new kickoff rule. We've seen
a little bit of it in practice caused sorry, the
dynamic kickoff. It's gonna be pretty dynamic. I think it'd

(12:47):
be more dynamic for the Patriots if Marcus Jones was
out there, because we watched him do this drill, do
this return a couple times during camp and he looks
like a nightmare trying to track down. They do have
some other guys that you know, they they've tried out there,
Jellen Rager one, I mean, even Jalen Polk's been back
there a little bit. kJ Osbourne. Probably not gonna be
Pop Douglas tonight, But you know what, guys, what have

(13:08):
your thoughts kind of been just on that new kickoff?
Finally just getting to see it a little bit in
person in practice, and now we'll get to see it
competitively in the game.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
I'm wondering how long it will last in terms of
like how many touchdowns are going to happen before we realize, Okay,
we're just going to kick into the back of the
end zone and call it a day here, because I
just give up.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
I'd be satisfied at the ball ever got out over
the thirty because the seven or eight that happened in
the first game, the average field position was the twenty
six yard line, So touchback twenty five, they get into
the twenty six.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Yeah, it doesn't really sound dynamic to me.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Not dynamic.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
They don't have Marcus Jones.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
But Tamara's right, if it becomes an issue and teams
are having a hard time covering them, they'll just go
to touchbacks. Yeah, and that could happen, and it happens
early in seasons. In general, you see some sloppiness on
special teams because of the stuff that all the cliches.
They don't do this, they don't tackle to the ground,
they don't generally do special teams. And then in the

(14:01):
preseason games, a lot of times the guys that are
going to be doing it aren't doing it. You know,
a lot of those guys are trying to make a
roster and you might have six seven guys out there
that are fighting for a spot, and one of them
might get it and be on that kickoff team come
regular season time when the other guys aren't. So you
get a lot of those you get some big returns
in the early part of the NFL season.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
As a rule, all right, Well, I think we set
the table. Maybe it's time for our keys to the game.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Guys, perhaps you've waited all week for it.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
The whole teams in the locker room right now just
listening to this, waiting to hear what you're gonna say.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Here are Paul, Mike and Tamayor's keys to the game.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
All right, we're just assuming Paul won last year. It's
probably probably good to air on that side of it.
But where were you won a couple of times? So
why don't you kick us off here tonight?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
I'm glad to kick us off. My key to the
game is let the trenches do the talking. Mike, you
hit on it in the big beginning of the show.
The offensive line is going to be a huge part
of the story tonight because I think that that's going
to set the table for how productive the offense is
able to be. I know a lot of people have
been saying Drake may hasn't been productive because he's been
with the twos and threes. The offensive line has been struggling.
There's been a lot of guys rotating in and out

(15:14):
left tackle, right tackle. So I think looking at the
offensive line tonight is going to be huge. I know,
girod Meo said, finding the best five. It will play
itself out in camp. We're almost done with camp. This
is the first preseason game, so this is going to
be a big first step into who they're going to
pick for the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah, Vaderian Lowe I think is. I mean he's been
at left tackle Paul for the last week or so.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
I would expect to see Vederian Lowe at left and
Calvin Anderson at right to start the game, because that's
what we had the last I don't know, four practices yep.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Right, Caden Wallace banged up a little bit. Not sure
he's I mean, I'm guessing he's not going to play
Chucks Cooro four has not practiced in a while. So
as we said at the top four tackles, you know,
it's it's not ideal, certainly at this stage of the game,
but I like it. I like the key. Paul, what
do you got?

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Can you give me a little.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Back to up?

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Drumroll?

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Please?

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Smooth? I want my shot. If we could play music,
I know where that's that's found upon I.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Know, and I'm too good of a singer that it
will Actually.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
I'm looking for the operation. I want a smooth operation tonight.
I think that that's something Jacoby Brissett talked about the
last time we heard from him, which was I don't know,
they all blend together, maybe Tuesday or Monday.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
I think it was Monday.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
In practice, there's been a lot of pre snap stuff,
and I think that that needs to get cleaned up
a little bit. We've talked a lot about Joe Milton
and Drake May coming from college where nowadays you look
to the sideline, you get a symbol and your play
call might be a word. You're at the line of
scrimmage and everybody's looking. They're all on the same page.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
It's not it.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
We're not in Kansas anymore. It's all different.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
The play calls are much more convoluted, and that's part
of the problem. You want to get the communication issues
out of the way. I want to see those two
Roos quarterbacks, May and Milton specifically, but all of them.
I want to see them calling the plays. I want
to break the huddle and I don't want to see,
you know, guys lined up wrong. I don't want to
see the ball on the ground on a snap. I
don't want to see Delaya game penalties. I want a

(17:13):
smooth operation. I know that sounds very no pedestrian, but
that's we haven't seen a lot of that so far
this summer, so I'd like to see some progress in
that regard in the real thing.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
I like that, Paul, because we have seen them huddle
and then line up, then rehuddle again because everyone's not
on the same page. Ball gets snapped, it falls on
the ground, the clock's winding down, no one's ready. We've
seen a lot of that throughout camp.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
So you're not here for it, are you?

Speaker 7 (17:36):
No?

Speaker 4 (17:36):
No, you're not smooth operators.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Time is money.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I like that, and I mean, Paul, I would. I
would build off of that as well. I'm not going
to get my key just yet, but I thought that
was a great one. I mean, it's just an underrated
part of camp that I don't think a lot of
the people have been talking about. It's just some of
the you know, the false starts, just the pre snap
stuff that, let's face it, it's it was kind of
bad last year with that stuff too, So hopefully they
can knit that in the bud. But just to build
off that point, we haven't really seen them stack a

(17:58):
drive together. Yet, you know, with the play clock and
you know, we were so used to Bill Belichick practice's
situational and there's number, there's time on the clock. You
see the down markers, and you know sometimes the old
coach would you know, mess with it a little bit.
I actually put it there. It wasn't, you know, quite
as straightforward. But I feel like some of these practices
have been kind of, as Paul hinted at, I don't

(18:20):
want to say stunted, because that you know, interments that
they're but they just they're plotting and they stop and
they think about it. And then sometimes these situational drills
just end and you're like, what happened? Did they go
four and out? Did they you know, like they didn't
even try a field goal, you know, and you're left
kind of confused. So I'm also excited to build off
of yours, just to see them start to put a
drive together and be in time and really start to

(18:41):
string some things together. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
I mean I think, you know, I don't need them
to go up, you know, and run up and down
the field, but I would like to see them maybe
you know, put a couple of first downs together and
get get a little bit of rhythm going so you
could sort of see where it's going.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
And you know, I don't need.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
To see much, you know, give me a couple of
plays for Jacoby said, give me a couple more for
for Drake May. I like to see him, but I
don't need anybody out there, you know, too too long.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Just want to see some rhythm get established.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
I would love to see Drake May go with the
ones offensive line at least, just so we can actually
see like, okay, this is what it could look.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Like, especially at center. I mean, I feel like that's
been one of the pieces of of these kind of
struggles where with David andrews Now he was out, you know,
personal reasons, it wasn't an injury, but they still continued
to kind of manage him.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
You know, it hasn't He hasn't been every snap. I
wouldn't expect to see a ton of him. Yeah, maybe
he starts, but I wouldn't. You know, he has nothing
to prove and certainly no rust to knock off. He's
he's already been through it all. But I do think
they've been searching for a backup center. You know, we've
seen Nick Leverett a little bit pretty good. We've seen
Antonio Maffi, we've seen need you help with someone else? Though,

(19:53):
here's the other guy they were putting in. There wasn't
there one another guy? Mafi, Charles Turner and and you know,
and we should update. You know, some of our listeners
might not be listening every day to our daily training
camp casts, but they had a place Jake Andrews on
injured reserve. And he's a guy that probably would have
been a lead candidate for backup center. Yeah, so he's

(20:14):
out for the year now. So yeah, that's a position.
I think that that needs to be filled.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
So Deuce's turn, give my key. Building on what you
guys said, and I mean you're both totally I'm totally
in lockstep with you. For me, it's Mayday. I'm going
to try to burn all my Drake May puns in
the preseason, So get those over with Paulk's. I know
they're annoying, but you know, I think what we see
are annoying you are perhaps you know, I think what
we've seen in the in the in the preseason and
training camp is you know, they're trying to get Drake

(20:41):
May to learn the offense. And you know, you can't
really do that if he's bailing out of the pocket
anytime there's pressure, and you know, it does what he
I don't want to say does best, but you know,
uses his talents to get outside the pocket and and
make things happen. So I think tonight I'm hoping that
we get a little glimpse of just kind of the
special aspects of Drake May. And I assume that, you know,
there might be some bumps on the road as far
as playing in the pocket, going through progressions, identifying you know, blitzers,

(21:05):
that kind of stuff. It might be, you know, not
perfect tonight, but I'm hoping that when those problems happen,
that we get a little glimpse of what Drake May
can do, you know, off platform, outside the pocket. He's
got to move, he's got to run. I think those
are the things that you haven't really been able to
see in training camp by nature of what training camp
is of trying to build your playbook and your plays funny,

(21:26):
but I think tonight we're going to see some of
this stuff.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
I would love to see some of it, and at
the same time, I don't want to see it.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
You know, right well, that's but you know, and I
hear what you're saying, and I think it's just the
inevitable thing about NFL football is that it's very hard
to be perfect. And you know, just a little reminder
of for everyone that's watching, and you know, constant debate
on talk radio of you know, how's Drake may been
just a reminder that this kid has some special talents
that aren't really being put to use yet. And you know,

(21:51):
when we get into games those things like totally, you know,
somebody comes flying off the edge, we don't have a
statue back there anymore. It's going to be a guy who.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
Conditioned and as it just as an example, and this
is just anecdotal.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
You know from what we.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
Watched, there was a play in the last practice that
we got a chance to see that you know, Drake
looked around, didn't find anybody, sort of bailed out of
the pocket, rolled to his right, and then just tucked
it and ran. And you might say, well, you know,
if that's a sack or you're not going to have
that much time, but they're really like he stepped up

(22:24):
in the pocket, took a quick, sharp turn to the right,
and cut it up field into an opening I think
that would have been a touchdown run in a real
game setting, you know. So to your point, Mike, how
much will Drake may look better if he's able to
use his power, you know everything, like like to call it,
those are his superpowers, right, you know? How much better

(22:44):
will he look when he's able to play the entirety
of the position, not just the practice version where they
want him in the pocket, they want him throwing the
ball and not necessarily looking to extend.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
I like that, Paul. I feel like in practice the
training wheels have been on from that aspect of just hey,
we're trying to focus on in the scheme in the
plays that we want to run right now, but in
the game setting, those wheels are going to come off.
If he has his opportunities, he's definitely gonna take them.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, let's let mean, let's talk a little bit more about,
you know, just Drake's camp overall, because it's been I
feel like it's kind of a gotcha question right now
of like, why are you disappointed with how he's been?
And and I guess my response to that question is,
in my mind, if I had, you know, you kind
of have this dream that he's going to come in
and it's just going to look amazing and it's like, wow,
you know, we got him and he's ready. And you know,

(23:27):
I mean we even going into the season, we were
talking about just play him just you know, I mean,
that's where all of our headspace was at. And I think,
you know, training camp was a reminder of the reality
that this is a twenty one year old kid that
they brought another quarterback in who's experienced in the league,
understanding that this most likely he's going to need some
time to develop. And you know, that's that's what we've seen.

(23:47):
There's been ups and downs, and you know, it's not
the hot take of he's been terrible or he's been amazing,
it's you know, I do think that there's been some
steady progress and that you know, he's looked more comfortable,
and you know, you also just get those moments where, yes,
there are certainly moments where there's nobody open, or you know,
there's people in his lap and or you know, there's
a fumbled snap and you know, like, man, this doesn't

(24:08):
looking smooth yet. But then there are also moments where
and usually on seven on seven, but he drops back,
he just lets one fly and it drops right in
the bucket. So you're getting these little glimpses of his
of his talent, and that's what I think we're hoping
he can all continue to stack these things and put
it all together. And you know, I'm just I'm not
in a rush right now. And as much as I
feel like I might have been in a rush earlier

(24:29):
this summer, it's like, I see what's there. I can
see the talent. Let's just be a little bit patient
with this right now, because if we are, I think
it'll pay off in dividends down the road.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
That's honestly exactly what Jalen Rager said at the podium.
He's like, that kid is talented, and in due time,
you guys will see why he was drafted number three overall.
And I think it's just going to take patients. The
potential is there, and I think with patients we will
see the production. But I think my mindset when he
got drafted was this is going to be a project. Yeah,
this was the definition of draft and developed. Like we

(24:59):
knew that. I knew that it was going to be
something that needed to be developed and it wasn't just
going to be a two week training camp. He's ready
to go. So I'm willing to be a patient. I'm
not a patient person, but I'm willing to win.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
She's usually not here help usually. Well, we'll see how
he does tonight, because my patients might go out the
window off all of a sudden, he's like rolling out
and dropping a ninety you know, like fifty yards in
the air off one foot, those kinds of things. But
let's also talk though about the receivers, because I think
that's a difficult position right now. Paul, you mentioned the
cornerbacks where it's like, you know, the top two guys,

(25:31):
but after that, it's, you know, an argument can kind
of be made for just about anybody. You know. Jalen
Polk's been pretty consistent. I mean, I gotta say, though,
Kayshawn Booty and Jalen Rager I feel like are maybe
the other two guys that have just shown up the
most often. I'm not saying that they've been impact players,
but in terms of just volume of snaps and targets,
those guys are kind of up there too.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
I'm going to say that I remain concerned overall to
Mario Douglas, to me is Head and shoulders the best
receiver that they have. I don't think anybody's been close
to him. Probably next for me would be Taekwan Thornton.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
And I you know, and he's limited.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
We've already seen why we worry about him. You know,
he's you know, he said he was dealing with a
soft tissue is injury. He's been doing a lot of
running the last couple of practices and not necessarily taking
part in much of the eleven on eleven stuff. I
thought there were a couple of days where he looked
like he was putting, you know, consecutive days together, and
he was showing up.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
I think Polk.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Baker to me, is more of sort of the hit
or miss guy, like he can make a while play.
Polk is going to be the guy that's much more consistent.
Out of those two. They've both had their moments. Beyond that,
I think it could be anybody. I think you're right
in saying, you know, there was a couple of practices
early that Rager was showing up. Then there was a
couple of practices more recently where Booty showed up. Then

(26:52):
all of a sudden, we hadn't seen Rager for about
a week and then he cut like three out of
four plays in eleven on eleven from Drake may on
the last practice that we saw. So I think those
all those jobs are still open. The one guy that
I would say hasn't really flashed as much as the others.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
Is Juju Smith Schuster. He's been sort of dealing with
some drops and.

Speaker 5 (27:13):
At times just not you know, I always make that
comment like it didn't look right. Yep, it doesn't look
right often when it's involving him.

Speaker 6 (27:20):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (27:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
I mean Javon Baker, nice catch the other day, and
it's just I remember when he drafted, when he got
drafted Paul, and I like my instinct, and I think
a lot of people's instinct was like kind of feels
boom er, busty, tists.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
And I think that's what it looks like.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
He kind of looks like that.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
He has those moments where you're like that diving catch.
You see his catch radius, his strong hands, et cetera,
speed at times, shiftiness, but then on the short passes
you're like, how did he just drop that? I'm confused.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Yeah, some drops in the last practice that we watched,
and you know, I was a big polk fan. I
just I think he's he's tough to get a read on.
I mean, he looks like an NFL receiver to him.
He's got good size, he's got strong hands. He seems
to be able to make some catches in traffic, and
you know, it's just a question of how much can
he bring down the field. And for me, that's the
remaining question for this offense. I think they'll be okay

(28:03):
if going back to Tamara's key, they get okay tackle play.
But you know, I think that's having a guy and
it's the same old song and dance and Brandon Iu
probably would have been this guy. But you've got some
good guys underneath him. I mean, the whole offense seemed
to change. Paul when de Mario Douglass came out there.
It was like all of a sudden, he's the bay
start throwing it. He gets open the most easily out
of out.

Speaker 4 (28:23):
Of the entire group.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
I weirdly think that Jalen Polk might end up being
like Jacoby Myers.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Yeah, no, that's and that's a comp and I still
hold out hope that he's, you know, no disrespect to Jacoby,
who I love and is a solid NFL receiver and
is a guy that you know, I mistakenly let get
away for Juju Smith Schuster, which was stupid, but you
know that that But along but along those lines, the
guy on third down who you can look to when
it's you know, not maybe not third and fourteen, but
when it's third and six and you know you need

(28:49):
something close and it's going to be a tight window
and it's going to you know, have a guy right
on you. Those are the catches that that I kind
of he's he's had moments where he looks like that
kind of player.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Yeah, I do want to talk about kg Osborne before we.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
We always and there's always somebody you forget that. Kendrick
Bourne too.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
He's he's knowing better the second half of camp and.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
He was the first agreed and I feel like, especially
the last practice that we saw, I feel like he
was good. He had some great catches. I think one
of the back of the end zone. I think that
if I can remember correctly, but veteran guy. He doesn't
do anything like wow, like a Brendan Nayuke obviously, but
he's been consistent. I feel like the last two days then.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
And we kind of know he's a little bit of
a known commodity, and that's why I kind of go
back to the unknown commodities.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah, I mean, I think he's different than Polk, but
similar in that I think he will be working out
of the slot and I think he's a little bit
more explosive than Polk. But yeah, I thought early early
in camp, I was like, oh, I don't see a
whole lot here. And I thought the last couple of days,
I thought you could see some signs of this guy
can contribute to. And the other part that I would
say about receiving in general is Hunter Henry.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
I think has had a really.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Solid camp, so good him and Austin Hooper too. I
mean just you know, hooper experience in the system early
on in camp, just seems to know where to be.
And what I mean, what what can you say about
Hunter Henry? I mean, what is this his fourth different
offense in his fourth year here. I mean, he's and
he just consistently remains productive. You know. He's not Gronk
or Kelsey, one of the you know, but he's another

(30:12):
guy that's just reliable and it's great to have reliable guys.
But I think we're all kind of craving, explosive guys.
And that's you know, when you try to sell the
fans on a Jalen Rager who's been around the league,
and he's been with a few teams, and yes, he
was a first overall pick and he has some pedigree.
But when you look at him side by side with
Booty who, I confuse them all the time because they
look kind of roughly the same and they all get

(30:32):
their jerseys up eighty and eighty three, and I like,
I can know, I'm like, who which one? But at
least with Booty it's only his second year and you
feel like, well, maybe there's still something there that we
just haven't seen, whereas with Reger you're like, do I
take the cheese on this again? Is this is? This?
Is now? It's going to finally click for this first round?

Speaker 9 (30:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
The thing to me with Rager is he can run,
and I don't see that kind of speed with with Booty.
You know, I think he's another of like Polk and
you know, the guys that we're talking about.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
It might be able to be a rely guy.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
You know, moving the chains, but I'm not I don't
see a lot of explosiveness what.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Do you guys want to see from these receivers tonight.
I mean, I'm assuming that that Polk and Baker are
going to play a ton, along with probably Rager and Booty.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
I feel like Juju is going to play a ton.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Juju maybe later, maybe later, depend I mean, and let's
I mean, my new thing this year for a bunch
of practice was just not tracking catches and Tark just
snaps who's getting the most reps. And it was, you know,
real noticeable that Juju was with lower groups, lower amounts
of reps. And I think I said it to you
guys doing one of the practices and like he going
to be playing late in the preseason. This is you know,
he's he's a guy that has to show he can

(31:36):
do it, especially out there if you're going against you know,
twos and threes of the other team and the defense.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
If I was noticing in practice that I wasn't going
out with Jacoby Brissett anymore, I was going out with
Zappi and Milton, that would be telling me something like
I am doing something wrong here, like what like I
don't know. It'd be a reality check for me. And
so I think tonight for him he cannot afford to
drop wide open plays and balls that we saw multiple

(32:01):
times last year bounced off his fingertips and into the
defender's hands. That just happens too much for him.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
I'm not sure we'll see a ton of him time now.
I think he could play early, Like I mean, I
think we've seen him a lot with may I haven't
seen him a ton with with Brissette. In camp, I've
seen him a lot with may But I think, you know,
when you get to the second half, I think it's
going to be some of those lesser you know, chaque Jackson,
David Wallace and there's a Baker, Baker, come on, Yeah,

(32:29):
I think those guys will get a lot of run.
You know, you might see Juju there too in Booty.
But my guess is you're going to make your determinations
based on how they look with with Brissett and with Maya.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
This is also a sleeper. But Kevin Harris, I feel
like he's had a good camp. You know, It's obviously
hard to see because it's hard to see running backs
when the offensive line is still trying to figure things out.
But Kevin Harris, I've seen him show up a lot
more of this camp obviously in the previously previous camp.
So I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays tonight.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I mean, Elliot Wolf said we want to play young guys.
You know, Harris has been here a couple of years.
He's been kind of waiting for an opportunity. Last week
I got a little bit. It's kind of not honestly
now or never, but they don't have much depth there.
Tomichael Hasty another you know guy. How much are they
going to put Remandre out there? I think he got
to really protect him.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
And we'll throw a name out that maybe some of
the listeners aren't as familiar with this, Terrell Jennings, and
there were two undrafted free agents at running back.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Deshaun Fenwick was the other one, and he was let go.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
He was a guy that I picked as a candidate
because of the position, and he's quite frankly, I knew
a little bit more about Fenwick in college at Oregon
than I did about Terrell Jennings, who I had really
not been familiar with.

Speaker 4 (33:36):
I think Florida A and M I want to.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
Say so obviously lower level, he's run well, he's been
He's shown some quickness and some toughness. I thought, in
Tamara's right, it's hard to necessarily tell with running backs,
aside from the one day that they tackled to the ground.
You know, it's hard to always tell how much effectiveness
the running backs are having. But he's a guy that

(33:58):
I think will get some second half run. He might
be able to make a team.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
I thought he kind of catches the ball smoothly too,
And I mean he doesn't really have the size of
that that kind of back. But preseason is the time
for running backs time, especially undrafted running backs, and I
mean we always kind of fall in love with guys,
and you know, sometimes it works out. Most of the
time it doesn't. I mean, I'm like Ben Jarvis Greenellis,
wasn't that one who was like an undrafted guy, Like
I don't.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
Know, he was not drafted.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Trying to think of some of those guys you.

Speaker 5 (34:23):
Know, eventually too, I think two years later was a
thousand yard rusher, never fumbled.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Never fumbled never, not once. Well, we've I think we
set the table a little bit here and now you're
here listening to the Patriots pregame show Presented or Sorry,
Fueled by duncan. Let's let's jump over to the phones though,
and see what the listeners are wondering going down to Atlanta. Hey, Ray,
what's going on?

Speaker 10 (34:43):
Hey, how you guys doing? Have been a long time?

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Thanks for calling.

Speaker 10 (34:48):
Hey, good to hear from each and every one of y'all.
Great work as usual. I won't be long. It might
not be the problem of vote that I'm about to
say you, but I really think that I really think
Zappie should set it off as far as you know,
the first quarter or at least a few minutes in that,

(35:11):
just to get the get to get the nervousness out
of the way, you know, because everybody, you know that
that's going to be the adrenaline, the scared round, and
everybody's nervous and all of that. So you know, I
know Bailey, you know, he was if he had practiced,
but he's not a he's not a rookie anymore, so
he kind of know he got a lot of things

(35:31):
on his belt now, so he he could set it
off as as far as the beginning. Maybe Pset. I
don't think they need for set in this game, but
if so, it should be them two Bailey or Beset,
either one whoever go first, because you know, they know
the system, they know the way, and and then some

(35:53):
and a little bit after the first quarter, maybe even
within the first quarter, whatever, after whatever halftime, whatever.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
It could be.

Speaker 10 (36:07):
May, it could be Drake May and Bazooka or Rocket
as he said, you know, and yeah, just to get
the nervousness out the way, because right now, you know,
in their mind, any thinking this is a super Bowl game,
and you know, and they just want to see what
they're made of. And we all want to see what

(36:27):
they're made of. Of course, So I will be enjoying this.
I will be wearing my Mac Jones jersey with tape
on the back of you know what, if you know
what I mean. Yeah, yeah, I got the tape on
and I'm ready, you know. And like I said, you know,
I think that either Zaffi himself or Zafi or and

(36:51):
Bris said, should just set it off. Set it off.

Speaker 5 (36:55):
Yeah, it's not going to be. It's not gonna be Zapi.
Yeah right, you know, and thanks, very appreciate. Is interesting guy,
because I think he's handled it exceptionally well. I think
this is a really strange situation for a quarterback. I
think he was told that he would have an opportunity
to compete for the starting job. He has not gotten
that opportunity. He gets very limited reps. He splits the

(37:15):
third team reps with Joe Milton every day. So he
is an afterthought and I'm really surprised that his camp
hasn't put out there that he would like to be moved.
And I would not expect him to remain on the
roster through the end of training camp.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
He's not going to start tonight.

Speaker 5 (37:32):
Jacoby Brissett is going to start, and then you're going
to see may you know, this is the NFL. You
know there's some rookies that go out there that might
be have a little butterflies first game and all that stuff.
But yeah, I mean this is this is pro football.
Like you can't go by who's nervous. And Zabi just
I mean, no disrespect to him at all, but he's

(37:53):
not been given an opportunity to compete.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
I think he's saying.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
And doing all the right things, but I think he
probably deserves an opportunity to try to hook on elsewhere
where we might be able to stay.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
I don't think he's going to be in the long run.
The only way he.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
Stays here through the start of the regular season. Is
if the coaching staff just blatantly decides, under no circumstancess,
Drake May going to play. So we need a backup
in case something happens to Presett. And I think even
if that happens, they'll go out and sign some backup,
you know, maybe someone who has some experience in that system.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Maybe they could sign Brian Hoyer. Your your partner tonight, Paul.
We should we should tease that a little bit because
we've got a lot of good stuff going on.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to being with Brian. You know,
as much as I hate giving up any airtime in
the Bobs Discount Furniture studios. We are going to be
obviously leaning on Brian's expertise when it comes to breaking
down these quarterbacks. You know, I didn't play the game.
Zoe played it, but he can't really talk about it.
So we're going to have Brian Hoyer talking about what

(38:51):
he's seeing with the quarterback. So obviously we're going to
focus on Drake May. But you know, some of the
things that we talked about in terms of the verbiage
with play call, like how it looks getting in and
out of the huddle. Brian played in this offense, he
played in Cleveland, he played in the system, the West
Coast system, So we're gonna lean on Brian a little
bit and get his expertise in that regard.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
So Hoy Dog and Paul will be in the Bob's
Discount Furniture studio and believe that's still the name and
that is still the name, and up in the TV
booth we'll have the mccordy Twins with Zoe, and on
the radio we got soci and Phil Perry. So it's
you got all kinds of different options to watch the
game tonight. If there's only one off faulse option TV, Well,
I look forward to seeing you on there, Paul. That'll

(39:32):
be nice while I'm up in the press box watching
you mingle with Hoy Dog, which you guys, You guys
did a Pats from the Past with him too. You
and Smith wed, which was really good.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
And to be honest, that's where this originated. You know,
we would talk Matt and I would talking to Brian,
and then afterward Matt asked me what I thought of
that as a possibility. Obviously I gonna say no, like no,
I want it off myself and Matt you know, talked
to Brian a little bit, you know, beally Brian got.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
Back to us and said he would be interested.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Well, I gotta say to moving on just going back
to Joe Milton for a second, because this is like,
this is where I'm here for. Like, I don't know
what's gonna keep us engaged third fourth quarter tonight. If
you know, you're only here for Drake May and those guys,
but like just getting a chance to see Joe Milton
play and go against the defense. You know, we know
his arm. We've talked about all that. You know, he's
made some plays in camp, but you know he's just

(40:24):
like you said, Paul, not a lot of opportunities for him.
I mean, it's just all right today he's gonna get
the third reps in sevens and then bailey'sz Appy gets
the reps in eleven. Hard for him to really strength
some things together. But tonight you mentioned the opportunity for
Bailey Zappy to kind of maybe put put on display
his talents for other NFL teams. But you know, for
Joe Milton, Tamara like to get out there to go
against the defense. To you know, and no offense to

(40:45):
Joe Milton, but it's if he gets hurt, it's not
a big deal, you know. It's it's like, just go
out there and play. I'm not worried about him, but
he has some athletic talents that are fun to watch,
and I think tonight that might be what's getting us
going in the third and fourth quarter. It's like, all right,
let's see, you know what this kid can do once
they get you know, May and Bersett out of there.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
I think this is going to be similar vibes to
like Malie Cunningham. Everyone couldn't wait for him to go
into the game. Obviously. Now it's rocket Joe, not Bazuka Joe,
because apparently Bazukas have a limit to how far they
can go. So it's Rocket Joe, Rocket Joe. Seeing him
tonight without a turning.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
Rocket, I think he's going to have a big night tonight.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
I think he's going to have an opportunity the second
half to play against quite frankly, a.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
Lot of guys that you know, Insurance be around.

Speaker 5 (41:32):
Yeah, I have to call on the Sunny's car Wash
All Stars and you know, and you might say, well,
it's still a higher level than college. Yeah, it is
if they were all playing together.

Speaker 10 (41:41):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
You know, in college, you're playing against Georgia and they
might not all be NFL players and defense, but they're
playing together as a unit.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
You know, they're in sync.

Speaker 5 (41:49):
Tonight, it's mix and match with a bunch of guys
that are just scrapping and fighting, claring just to try
to prove that they they deserve another look for the NFL.
And I think the guys is so immensely talented, you know,
And I think that's gonna show.

Speaker 3 (42:03):
I hope actually let him throw it down the field
though oh he will, Okay.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Oh he will a bunch of just like I mean, pregame,
he's probably the better watch out up in the I
don't know if anyone's raising bringing the bell tonight up
on the up on the lighthouse, but you better watch out.
Milton can hit him. But yeah, well, you guys are
listening to the Patriots pregame show fueled by Duncan and Haye.
Patriots fans, it's always game on with Duncan, which is
why grabbing a coffee is the most important game day ritual.

(42:27):
I did it today on the way grab the Duncan,
because the best call for football is Duncan. The official
coffee of the New England Patriots America runs on Duncan.
I'm running on Duncan right now, and uh aren't.

Speaker 6 (42:38):
No.

Speaker 4 (42:38):
He didn't call and ask us if I.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
Exactly no, no, no, no Duncan for you. We didn't
get any donuts either. We're trying to bring We're trying
to bring back the Duncan coffee cake muffins this year, Matt.
That's we don't know what happened those were.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
I had a lot of technical difficulties for the show.

Speaker 4 (42:53):
I don't I don't drink coffee anybody.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
We used to always get those coffeke they we're our favorites.
But here we are, all right, Let's jump back to
the phones, though Patty and Aguan has been holding on.
Hey Patty, happy new season to you. I hope you're
doing well.

Speaker 7 (43:05):
Doing all right? How's everyone doing pretty good?

Speaker 2 (43:08):
I think we're excited start the new season and get
rolling in the regular season. I think, and me too.

Speaker 7 (43:14):
I want a little bit of a rant, and I
got a question for all of y'all. So I'm seeing
a lot of sensationalism about like Brandon and Ayuk not
coming here because we suck and this is nothing new.
I mean, I'm I'm roughly like right around your age,
so I'm old enough to remember when this team was
the laughing stock of the league.

Speaker 6 (43:32):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (43:32):
And we've seen it the last two and a half seasons,
so it's not a wake up call. I mean, if
anyone's been paying attention, we know this team sucks and hopefully,
like May is a stud and you know, maybe as
soon as next year, you'll you want some some dudes
to come and play with them. But that's it for
the rant and question for you guys. You guys touch
on wide receivers aside from the rookies. Two questions, two

(43:55):
part questions, who do you think might pop not just tonight,
but like throughout the preseason? And is there any one
of anyone of these guys minus the rookies, that you
guys are sneakily rooting for. I'll take it off the
air and let's freak it go.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
There you go. Was that a specific position that he
was asking?

Speaker 5 (44:15):
I think you're talking about receiving receiver. I gotta be
honest with you, I got nothing there. I just have
no oomph at all with that position. I've seen very
little now. It's I like to Mario Douglas, I thought
he brought a lift to the entire group.

Speaker 4 (44:28):
His energy is infectious, and I think that.

Speaker 5 (44:30):
They'll get some of that from Kendrick Bourne too, you know,
when and if he's able to be activated, because.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
He's one of those energy guys. He brings it all
the time.

Speaker 5 (44:39):
I don't I just don't see a lot of dynamic
potential with that group. I thought I saw some flashes
from Baker, and I thought he kind of leveled off.
He's probably going through some of that rookie stuff, you know,
day eleven training camp, he's kind of starting to hit
the dog days.

Speaker 4 (44:53):
But I haven't really seen a whole lot.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
I mean I might have said taekwon, you know, early on,
but it's just it's I feel like we're kind of
back to square one with him. Maybe he can get
back on track. But I think Osborne for me is
a little bit. I mean, I agree with Paul. I
mean it's for me, Polk and Douglas are that the
kind of top two. Baker's been up and down, and
you know, you still hold out hope that he can
do something. But Osborne, you know, he's just he's kind
of the unknown commodity and I'm not sure exactly, you know,

(45:17):
how it's all gonna fit. I mean, in Minnesota he
was what he was, you know, playing opposite justin Jefferson
and you know, but I don't know. Maybe tonight he
shows a little bit of something. But I'm basically with Paul.
It's it's it's Douglas and Polk and Baker.

Speaker 5 (45:29):
I feel like there's no stiffs, like they have all
the same guys.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Yeah that's me, And I feel like I need someone
to not just pop for one day. I need him
to remain like consistent, assistent. And I think that's tough
for me to pick someone that's going to do that
because right now we've seen a different person do it
every day yeap or every other day.

Speaker 5 (45:48):
I totally agree, and I'm not necessarily looking to see
that in the preseason because I know, you guys know
how I feel.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
I kind of don't care.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
Yeah, no, this is I'd like to see it.

Speaker 5 (45:57):
With Tamara is talking about can I watch like three
practices in a row with the same guy looks dominant, right,
you know, because practice to me means way more than
these preseason games. And you know, we'll we'll get through
this week and we'll get to next week and it'll
be even a little bit more telling, you know, on
the thirteenth.

Speaker 4 (46:13):
When we see the Eagles here, Yeah, you know, and
see how they stack up it.

Speaker 5 (46:16):
You're not that the Eagles are, you know, the measuring
stick of the league, but it's a talented roster, so
I'd like to see how it.

Speaker 4 (46:22):
Looks then too.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
Yeah, we should say if you guys are around next Tuesday,
the thirteenth, joint practices Patriots and Eagles, just one day only,
starts at ten thirty am, so get here early. I
looked at the weather, looks like it's going to be and.

Speaker 5 (46:33):
As a beautiful That is the last day of public
the public will be welcome at practice, so I don't
that could change, but as of right now, that's the
last day that the practices will be open to the public.
So great day to get here if you haven't seen
them yet.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
It's a great day. Great day now. I know, I
was just pumping up the coffee cake muffins, but we're
going to go to a donut now, Boston Cream. Our friend,
friend of the show, friend of the program checking in.
Hey Boston, Cream, what's going on? Don't land right there?

Speaker 11 (47:02):
Hey guys, I heard someone didn't bring in the donuts,
so I thought i'd bring everyone.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
They're coming.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
They're coming.

Speaker 4 (47:09):
No, no, no, no, no, we don't need that.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
I just sent the pan Oh, for God's sake, he's
fighting his way through the tailgaters to get it dozen soon.

Speaker 4 (47:16):
Is he ready for me?

Speaker 1 (47:17):
He's ready?

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Okay, sorry, Cream, go ahead, Cream mister.

Speaker 12 (47:24):
Okay, guys, long time though talk.

Speaker 13 (47:27):
First off, I'm excited to watch everyone's two favorite solar panels,
Brian Hoyer and Paul bring the heat. Not enough hair
in that room, that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (47:36):
Seems like an unnecessary shot.

Speaker 2 (47:37):
But hey, donuts don't have hair either, hopefully.

Speaker 4 (47:40):
As Andy likes to say, the truth is never mean.

Speaker 14 (47:44):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (47:44):
Who is your guys so far?

Speaker 9 (47:46):
Your guys's training camp crush individually and Paul, what can
you tell me about Tucker Addington?

Speaker 4 (47:56):
That was well done?

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Perfect? Perfect? Thanks Cream, appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (47:59):
You know what, I wish i'd had.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
One training I'm just gonna throw this one out there.
I'm gonna say, Jaalen Hawkins, I mean it's not I'm
not obsessed with him or anything. But I just think
of all the new guys, they didn't need a lot
on defense. He's just he's been active and you know,
I talked to him this week. I asked Mayo about him.
He's gonna play a lot tonight.

Speaker 7 (48:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
He played a lot in Atlanta one year. Kind of
got pushed down the depth chart when they when they
signed what's his face from the Bengals, Jesse Bates. You know,
when you know what's the face, if you're interested in
all pros and stuff. You know, I heard he's pretty good.
Whatever we got. We got to Bill Peppers. I'm not
concerned about that. Uh, but you know, went over to
the Chargers and you know, played a little bit. But

(48:39):
he's just been active and you know, he bring some energy.
I love you guys, know me. I love these like
active defenders that over celebrate any play that they make
in practice. But you know, got his hands on some
balls last week, had for you know what I would
have called the tackle for loss coming off the edge
in the run game. You know, had a nice pass
defense in the same practice. So he's just he's just active.
I expect to kind of be the guy on the
back tonight. I don't want to have Pepper. I don't

(49:02):
even know Pepper's gonna play. He's been a little bit
banged up after that first pad of practice, So I'll
say Jalen Hawkins, why not. I think he's been He's
been pretty good.

Speaker 4 (49:10):
Do you have one tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (49:12):
I was thinking about it and I was gonna say
maybe Alex Austin. I think he had one interception in camp,
but just one full off season with the Patriots. I'm
excited to see how he's going to do this year,
especially being thrown into the fire so late into the
season last year. Now that he's had a full off
season under his belt, I'm excited to see what the
year holds for him.

Speaker 5 (49:31):
I'll give you two guys that I didn't know a
ton about before and have kind of stood out to me.
One I already talked about Jennings Terrell Jennings as a
young guy under the radar, you know, probably practice squad
candidate if anything. You know, might not be ready right away,
but he kind of he's flashed a little bit for

(49:51):
me on defense. A guy who I think will be
a part of the picture is Tristan hill Oh hill
On the front. I think that I've noticed number nineties seven.
You know, he's a high draft pick, he's a former
second round pick in Dallas. I think he's a guy
that might, you know, with Christian Barmore being out, might
be able to listen. He's not Christian Barmore, He's not

(50:12):
even that kind of a player, but he might benefit
from that absence and cover.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
Out a role for himself, not the piece some things,
did you? I was going to say someone else. I
thought you were gonna say os O'Shane.

Speaker 5 (50:26):
I got to be honest with you. I haven't not.
I haven't really noticed him at all. I know all
of my colleagues are writing volumes about, you know, his
place on the edge, and maybe if Judon is going
to do this and is going to do that and
there's nobody there, maybe, but yeah, I got to be honest,
I haven't really noticed him.

Speaker 4 (50:44):
But one day.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
Yeah, me too. I mean it's more of a pick
of opportunity for me. It's just they need a guy,
and he's a try hard and I think those guys
always seem to show up in the preseason. He's gonna
be going on hundred miles. Now, what are we gonna say,
abou kie on Keon White.

Speaker 3 (50:54):
I was gonna say, he could be one that's interesting
this year, just to see how they use him, especially
with Christian Barmore out. Are we going to see him
more or I don't know. I'm intrigued to see how
he's used in the defenses.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
He's another one kind of like Ziminez that you know,
sometimes everybody watches training camp in their own way, and
there's ninety guys out there and you can be watching
one thing. And I believe me, nobody wants key On
White to be awesome more than me. I just but
I you know, I just haven't seen it consistently. I haven't,
you know, seen him blown out plays or you know,
he's he's a big, powerful dude, and you know they
got him playing defensive end a little bit, and he's

(51:25):
standing up at outside linebacker a little bit. But you know,
maybe tonight it's it's just signs are pointing to him
playing a lot. I just I want to see him
be impactful and I haven't seen that yet.

Speaker 5 (51:34):
Yeah, and I have seen him flash a little bit
here and there, But I'm kind of with you, I
I don't know exactly where he fits. I think he's
a Dietrich wise guy.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (51:42):
Not I didn't mean that, but I.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
Think he's a wise guy.

Speaker 5 (51:46):
Yeah, I think he fits into that role, you know.
I think that's where where he might fit best. And
who knows, you know, Dietrich Wise is one of those
guys that's in the last year of his deal.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
Yeah, yeah, maybe a captain. Two. Let's jump to the
phones quick, and we're gonna be uh, we're gonna be
welcoming in Darren Gant shortly from Panthers dot Com. Give
us a little insight into Caroline and what's going on
down there. But right now we're gonna jump to Florida
and say hello to David. Hey, David day, Guys, is
going great? How are you?

Speaker 11 (52:15):
I'm good. I just want I had a couple of things.
I wanted to kind of issue a little bit of
a warning to Patriots fans here. I don't know if
he's gonna be playing, but I don't care. If he
looks like Randy Moss against the Cowboys, do not buy
the Taekwon Thornton stock. Do not do it, and I'll
tell I'll tell you well, I don't know, he's just
like one of those guys that is like with like

(52:35):
with Nikhil, he got injured early on. He's shown some flashes,
but he just really hasn't been able to sort of
put it together in a real game, and so I
just don't really believe in him.

Speaker 5 (52:46):
Yeah, I mean, I agree, he hasn't done anything in
the NFL. Nikhil Harry never had any flashes. Uh, this
guy has. This guy's flashed a little bit. He's had
two I think, really solid training camps and he's been
okay in this training camp. The problem with him as
he's he's been injured, and you know that's a big
part of it. The availability is a very underrated skill,

(53:07):
and he hasn't been durable and and reliable. I agree
with David. I just think that they need somebody. They
need somebody in that position. And you know, I don't
see anybody separating, say.

Speaker 11 (53:22):
Though by the K Booty stock band, I wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Thanks David appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (53:29):
Yeah, that's I think when you don't ever play, there's
that uncertainty and if you don't play and don't do anything,
you think, yeah, yeah, no, I that no one ever
looks at it and say, why is that guy playing
and the other guy's not right right because maybe the
coaches think that guy's better than that guy. Well food
has just kept his feet in bounds last week and
exact week one exactly, he would have been a superstar.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
I don't see it. I just don't see it.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
With Booty.

Speaker 4 (53:52):
I don't see that.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
It's not a trait. There's not, you know, at least
with Thornton. Say what you will, there's a trait though.
He's got you know, he's fast, he's got good hands. Yeah,
Kaishan Bot he has good hands, Yea.

Speaker 5 (54:01):
I can see him, you know, drop a lot of
passes that he gets his hands on, and that's a
great trait to have. But I don't see the explosiveness,
the separation skills that you know, we're kind of sold
to us now.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
Maybe maybe tonight he shows a little bit of it.
We'll see, uh. Keeping keeping going on the phones though,
speed over in California, Friez, No he speak what's happening.

Speaker 13 (54:20):
I'm glad I avoided the daunting task of following mister Crean.

Speaker 2 (54:24):
Okay, I think it's doctor Cream actually doctor Cream, Donutt Donut,
doctor school.

Speaker 13 (54:35):
Over under snaps for Drake made a Knight fifteen and.

Speaker 2 (54:40):
A half, fifteen and a half. I think that's a
pretty good number.

Speaker 6 (54:43):
Speed.

Speaker 2 (54:44):
I'm gonna say under, let me say under, but I
think it's about that. What is fifteen snaps for Drake
May over under Drake May.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
I like that number. I was going to say three series.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Yeah, I mean, so maybe you'd be a little bit closer.
I mean you're hoping if it's if it's.

Speaker 4 (54:59):
You're definitely hoping for the over. I'm going to say under, Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (55:02):
Just I mean frong segment of the show.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
Yeah, we haven't got over unders yet, be saved, save
it for later.

Speaker 7 (55:09):
Bad.

Speaker 13 (55:09):
Well, then let me ask a different one. So, like
you guys on past shows, you've talked about like a
potential strife with potential strife like given that Elliott Wolf
has final stay with the with the personnel over Jirod
and just just to start a baseless rumor, I'm wondering,
like what you think of maybe the idea that maybe
Mayo wants to pay Jude on the Wolf is saying no,

(55:33):
I'll listen, I'll take it off.

Speaker 2 (55:35):
Thanks.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
So I like this question because I was actually thinking
because allegedly the Brandon Nyuk thing fell apart, and they're
pulling back from from that. I'm wondering now if Judo
will get paid. I don't know if if they were
holding back maybe because they're like, we want to save
this money for Brandon Nayuk or this number one wide
receiver or an actual need, whether it's tackle wide receiver,

(55:56):
whatever it is, and then if we can't get that done,
then we will revert back to paying more.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
Of our guys.

Speaker 5 (56:02):
I even wonder if Judon might have been involved in
the package for you know that, you know everybody wrote
about Born, but I wonder if there was you know what,
take Matthew Judon two.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
Yeah, because I was.

Speaker 3 (56:12):
Thinking, okay, like maybe Elliott's like, no Judon, like, we
have bigger priorities, which they do. They have other things
they need to address first. They're not a wide receiver
away from being a good team either. But I do
think that maybe now that potentially with being off the
table allegedly, maybe judn't.

Speaker 4 (56:27):
Will get paid.

Speaker 2 (56:28):
Yeah. I'm gonna read a email right now, because you
know Hardy's biggest weakness, Paul, you never read the electronic Man,
and the second one was he dropped calls left and
the right. So far I'm perfect on the phone, So
thank you to the Strong. Not a great intro, but
hey strong strong phone night produce this one coming in
from Johnny. Hey, I like the new setting and I'm
excited for the new host, although i miss Hardy already. Yeah,

(56:49):
so do I, So do I. It's eleven thirty pm here.
Will it be worth staying up for the game? You
can tape it, you can watch it tomorrow if you
don't feel.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
Like stay up for the first two quarters.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
There you go. I'll be in London for the Jacksonville game.
Will someone from the PU crew be there? Probably Fred,
at least get Fred Devan, Fred Nevan will be there.
Evin will be there. Yeah, not the sexiest members of
the show, but you know it's not the sexy people,
not us. They keep us here. But concerning this game,
what would make you happy and optimistic in this game?
Looking forward?

Speaker 5 (57:17):
So I would say, quite simply some rhythm on offense
that it looks, you know, in the first half, they
put a couple of drive I don't even care if
they score, just put a couple of drives together where
it looks like offense, you know, a run for five,
a pass for seven first down.

Speaker 4 (57:32):
You know, maybe twice.

Speaker 5 (57:34):
I like it all and then for both quarterbacks Persette
and may you know, just give me some rhythm on offense.

Speaker 4 (57:40):
It's I know, it's the bar.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
Is so low.

Speaker 4 (57:43):
String of drives again, the bar is so low.

Speaker 5 (57:45):
After the last two years, I want to see something
that looks like it's better than that.

Speaker 3 (57:48):
I like that Poul because I feel like so many
times last year it was so hard to stay awake,
to keep my eyes open and watch what was happening
on the field because the offense did not have a pulse.
So just to have a pulse and actually look like
an offense would be amazing.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
Got another email from Chris and Colfax say hey guys.
To guys, I'm excited to see how they are used tonight.
Are Marcellus Dial and del Pettis Either one looks like
they could be dark horses to play free safety or
Dial could be another outside corner. Also side note, Mike's
next crush is absolutely going to be Georgia running back
Branson Robinson. I would like to see Mike's reaction on
the show if he hasn't seen him yet. Thanks guys.

(58:23):
All right, so I'm gonna drot that one down.

Speaker 3 (58:25):
Marcella's dial is a good one.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
And Paul's been all over him too.

Speaker 4 (58:29):
Marcella's dial is showing up good one.

Speaker 5 (58:30):
Yeah, I've noticed him. You know, we talked about who,
you know, who's going to be that extra corner. I've
noticed him a little bit. Del Pettis, I haven't really noticed.
He made one play.

Speaker 4 (58:40):
The last practice, yeah, but I haven't really noticed it.

Speaker 3 (58:44):
A few pass breakups.

Speaker 2 (58:46):
I mean, you could see a time of Hawkins and
Pettis just based on Pepper's probably banged up. I don't
think we're going to see something I should know. Dougger
protect him. Josh Bledsoe has been banged up, just came
back to practice last time. So I mean, is he
going to be ready to jump right into a game.
I'm not sure. And then you've got a J. Thomas,
who they just signed, you know what, last week, a
new guy. So I think it's a good bet that

(59:06):
Jalen Hawkins del pettis going to get plenty of time.
And and Marcellus Dial is another one. Paul, it's like he.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Has long arms too, and just from the eyeball test.

Speaker 2 (59:16):
He's He's one guy that you've been all over the
last few practices, just kind of jumping out to you.

Speaker 5 (59:20):
I have an eye for talent much, you know, they
tell me no. I just I think he's competitive. I
don't know if he's ready for the roster. It probably
will come down to if Gerad thinks that he has
some value in special teams and whatnot. But you know,
late round draft, I could see some traits there. Same
with Isaiah Boulden. We talked about last year, both of them,
and I think Bolden has flashed a little bit in

(59:42):
this camp too.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
Yeah, not as much as I would have liked. I
just I don't know. I mean, I disappointed, little a
little bit disappointed. I just I had high hopes for
him last year. I just I just thought he had
great size. He's you know, he's got good length. But again,
all those guys are just kind of all jumbled together,
and some of them make plays and then they go
quiet for a while. It is what it is. We'll
see how it goes tonight. But sticking with the phones,
let's head down back to Florida and say hello to Jason.

Speaker 15 (01:00:05):
Hey, Jason, Hey, guys, Hey, thanks great coverage. Excited for
the game tonight, curious on your thoughts. Obviously you all
have seen Drake May in practice. Is there any chance
coaching wise, are they are they giving them are they
over correcting a little too much, having a bite off
more than he can choose? So working on the footwork,

(01:00:26):
working on the throwing mechanic pre post snap, I mean,
is there a possibility that they're just giving him too
much right up front? Or is this something that as
a rookie they're still cheating him with kids gloves and
he should be kind of catching on.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
I'll take it off.

Speaker 15 (01:00:41):
Thanks for the great analysis.

Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
Thanks Jason. I don't know, what do you think, guys,
I mean, I don't know. It's just I think this
is what you have to do. I mean, this is
what this kid needs is to I think he eats
a lot of ground zero you know footwork and you
know being in the offense. And I mean, I guess
after kind of the match Mac Jones era, if you
can call it an et ra at ra, I don't
want to rush. I don't want to break them. And

(01:01:04):
like I know we have those whole conversation like you
can't you know Andy's thing, you can't you can't break
a diamond and you know, it just you want to
be careful and you don't want to rush him into
week three of you know, twenty twenty four to prove
a point, and you know, and then it just it
starts to get jumbled. And so I guess I'm being
more cautious now as we get going, because you see
the raw talent there, and you just know that it's

(01:01:24):
understanding how to play the game at the NFL level,
and that's the biggest thing. Didn't play a ton of
games in colleges and his experiences, you know, Jaden Daniels was.
It's it is going to take a little bit of time.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
Yeah, I think you can't shortcut his success. I think
you have to start with making sure he's developing good
habits and his footwork and his technique and then go
from there. If you just start off with like, hey,
I just wanted you to learn the offense and get
them right out there and go without focus focusing on
the little things first, then I feel like you're going
to end up with some problems. And especially when you
look at his tape in North Carolina and you point

(01:01:55):
out all the things that need work. You got to
start developing him now.

Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Yeah, yeah, well, and I mean it's big stat tonight, right,
I mean, this is this is what it's all about,
getting some live reps and everything, and just excited to
see him get out there and see what he looks
like and you know, with the team, the uniform and
all that stuff. So hey, we're sticking in Florida night.
We're popular down there down at Jacksonville. Hey. Popular, Yeah,
it's popular in the ocular down nice.

Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
Hey Todd, Hey, how's it going, Todd?

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
Good?

Speaker 12 (01:02:22):
So twitching focus a little bit from the players to
the coach. Are you guys looking for anything from the
coaches tonight, Paul? I have already answered that a little bit
and talking about the offensive scene rhythm, But are you
looking at anything for the coaches tonight? How they're going
to handle those things? How we have you know, let's
turn over there too as well.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Yeah, good question.

Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
I love that question, especially when you have two young
I want I want to call it even p Young,
that's wrong. You have new coordinators, new coordinators, guys who
are calling plays for the first time. Obviously a VP
has you know, stepped in and called plays, but he
hasn't done it for a full season. Like that hasn't
been his job to call plays. So I feel like
for me, when you're looking at that clock, management, new

(01:03:00):
head coach, all those things, those are things to look
at today with, Okay, how are they going to handle
all this? How many delay of games are gonna they're
gonna be how are they going to handle calling plays?
It's definitely something to think about.

Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
Yeah, DeMarcus Covington, I mean, he's been around for a while,
but calling play is a big thing. We've seen Steve
Belichick do it, you know, had a good feel for it,
very aggressive. We're not going to see aggression tonight from
the defensive coordinator. It's you know, going to be pretty straightforward,
I would guess. But good experience for both those guys.
And yeah, I mean, you're right, it's a it's a
great storyline just to point out that these two guys
are both you know, Alex van Pelt. Really this is

(01:03:32):
his first time kind of owning the offense and it's
his and it's you know, he's molding it in his image.
So we'll see how it's coming together. But I'm excited
to see some of you know, DeMarcus Covington get that
headset on. So getting the signals in and see how
it goes. Let's let's clear the phones though. Here is
we're getting ready for Darren Gant to join us, and
Paul's got to go do his hit at some point
four minutes, so let's go. Yes he is, Oh, but

(01:03:56):
we're with Courtney down in Houston.

Speaker 14 (01:03:57):
Hey Courtney, Hey, guys, make it quick because I know
you said Paul's got to get on out of here.

Speaker 16 (01:04:01):
In America's got a million things to do.

Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
That's right, see you guys.

Speaker 16 (01:04:05):
Paul being a historian that I love, I wanted to
just real quick on a parallel that I thought was interesting.
So Mark said, the Mark Center has talked on Colin Coward.
If you guys have to have a chance to see that.
But he made a good point about Rex Ryan being
a first year coach at the time that they had
Mark Sanchez to come Frick, and he said about that
first year then that defense was tenacious. You had the
revisits and you had all those guys, and it was

(01:04:26):
really hard for him to kind of get that adjustment
once they kind of had their guys. The second year,
they had the Laudanian Thomas's, they had the other guys
that were on the offense.

Speaker 14 (01:04:36):
Rex was talking about how they went more of an
empty set because it was so much talent now that
they had on offense that could rival their own historical defense.
So my question to you guys, as the first year
coach for Gerrod Meo, how do you how would you
balance having such a tenacious defense that can do all
of these.

Speaker 16 (01:04:52):
Things that are so far ahead of the offense.

Speaker 9 (01:04:55):
How do you keep them sharp while also easy, you know,
maybe having them easy a little bit on Drake May
and the other guys just so that they can actually
start to field that rhythm and find that rhythm. So
I'd love to take that offline.

Speaker 16 (01:05:07):
And by the way, to Mary, not to sound weird,
which you look made today, So thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Thanks Cording, Thanks you look great.

Speaker 17 (01:05:14):
To Paul, I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
I feel like the defense has dialed it up in practice,
but they're definitely not throwing everything they have at Drake May.
Of course, they're going to want to show him a
few things so he can get used to reading a defense,
but they're not pulling all their cards out on the
table against him.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Yeah, and I think.

Speaker 5 (01:05:30):
It's good that they have what is supposed to be
a good defense, so you can practice against you know,
theoretically you're practicing against the better defense than you're going
to facing games.

Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:05:40):
Yeah, you know, if it if it's working out the
way you want it to. That certainly was the case
with those Jets teams, you know, back in what nine,
you know, ten eleven, that era. You know, we'll see
what the Pages defense is like this year. I agree
with Samara. I don't think that they've been necessarily coming
after the quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
You know, they not that they haven't blitzed.

Speaker 5 (01:06:00):
They've blitzed occasionally, but I don't think they've done it,
you know, an extraordinary amount of time.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
It's more more of the back end rotation. For me,
it's it's you know, showing one guy high and then
all of a sudden at snap, one of the guys
drops out and it's covered two all of a sudden,
and you know, that's some of my favorite stuff to watch.
But I felt like Steve Belichick's little more aggressive even
in practice, like he would be throwing those you know,
zone blitzes and you don't know where it's coming from.
And but that's what makes.

Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
Even the versatility of those guys because they can use
Hawkins and Dugger and Pepper's and you know who's high,
who's who's in the slot, who's.

Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
Jamming, and the corners.

Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
You know, we've seen Jonathan Jones do a little safety,
a little corner, So I think they're probably disguising a
lot more with the secondary as opposed to getting after them.

Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
One thing I was gonna say, I was like, I
couldn't imagine how much better the Patriots defen Scott practicing
against Tom Brady, going up against that every single day.
I can't imagine how much better that made them.

Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Forget they say about that, Paul, It's like something something
does something iron iron shockers right right. That's where it was, up.

Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
Against Tom Brady every day at practice.

we're we're Patriots dot Com. He's Panthers dot Com. So hey, Darren,
thanks for thatching.

Speaker 17 (01:10:39):
Is it enemy lines?

Speaker 22 (01:10:40):
I mean, the league keeps telling us that football's family,
so we're all part of the same family.

Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Really, it's a family park. Yeah, so it's.

Speaker 17 (01:10:48):
Like a reunion of people we don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Well, thanks for thanks for joining us here, and you know,
we're excited to get things started. Just you know, so far,
what have been your big takeaways down there from from
Panthers camp.

Speaker 22 (01:10:58):
Everything's new, yeah, cow GM. The quarterback's the same as
last year, but the system itself is so different from
what was going on last year. You know, it's like
basically raising it down to the floor and rebuilding again.
And they have got there's some talent on hand. But
because everything is so brand new and tonight want even

(01:11:18):
be a very fair barometer of it, because I don't
know how many of those guys on the front line of.

Speaker 17 (01:11:23):
The dip charter are even going to play tonight.

Speaker 22 (01:11:26):
We know Bryce she young'snot and a lot of other
guys won't be joining him, so it's going to be interesting.
I don't know how much of it pertains to this week,
but I think in a global sense, they're developing something.

Speaker 17 (01:11:39):
Dave Canalis.

Speaker 22 (01:11:40):
Everybody talks about his energy is positivity and all those
kind of things. But the thing that struck me about
Dave since he's come in here is he's concentrating on
the ball his saying, I've heard it a million times already,
is get the ball right, get the football right, and
they know they have to do that before you can
worry about just energy or any of that other kind
of stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Darren, I'm curious with everything you said, being new, a
new head coach and all of that, why do you
think that they're not showing Rice young tonight, especially with
everything being so new. You want to put him out
there and see how everything is.

Speaker 22 (01:12:13):
Yeah, I mean, and Dave talked about that the other day.
He said, there's two competing philosophies. Number One, you'd like
to get some guys some reps. On the other hand,
you got to protect them too, because you know you're
counting on these guys and they have gotten some opportunities
coming up. In the next week or so, the Jets
are coming in for a joint practice. So there's those
almost live reps that coaches seem to like where it's

(01:12:35):
a controlled environment and it's almost like a preseason game,
but not really. You know the risk of this thing
is in the preseason if you put starters on the
field and the other team's got some guy who is
about the eighty seventh man on the roster right now,
who's trying to make a name for himself.

Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
You could be.

Speaker 17 (01:12:52):
Putting your guys at risk.

Speaker 22 (01:12:53):
I mean, now, obviously all these guys are out there
trying to do the best for themselves, but you try
to minimize risk as much you can. And I think
as time goes on, we've seen, you know, having done
this for a minute, you've seen joint practices become more
of a thing. I think that will add over the years.
I mean, it's going to only increase. Some teams are

(01:13:14):
doing two of them already, and I think, you know,
I could see a day where that replaces some of
these games, especially if it ever goes to eighteen games
something like that. So a couple of sort of games,
a couple of joint practices, controlled scrimmage type settings.

Speaker 17 (01:13:29):
And get them all out of here and ready for
a regular season.

Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
Well, Darren, since we're not gonna see Bryce Young toon,
I'm curious, how has he looked at camp, especially coming
off the season that he had last year.

Speaker 22 (01:13:38):
This may sound insane, but things look normal around Bryce Young.
I think what they're trying to do is get him
back to where he was at Alabama. Bryce always had
the benefit of playing with an excellent defense, a big
offensive line, in a strong running game. So the emphasis
has been I think I've kind of laughed about it
back home, because when you hear offensive mind coach gets

(01:14:00):
hired and he's an offensive guy, you expect passes going
all over the place. Bill Bill, get Bill, and Dave
Canal's going to run a ball gang. He is an
old school. It reminds me very much of when John
Fox and Dan Henning were running an offense that saw
the Patriots in a Super Bowl number thirty eight. That
one worked out pretty well for you guys, but they

(01:14:20):
were based on defense and running the ball, and I
think for now they're trying to stabilize things around Bryce.
They invested heavily in the offensive line, go out and
spend a first round pick on a wide receiver, trade
for Deontay Johnson to get some targets in there, to
just kind.

Speaker 17 (01:14:34):
Of let him breathe for a second.

Speaker 22 (01:14:36):
I mean, Bryce took sixty two sacks in sixteen games
last year, sixth most in league history. Thank god for
Sam Howell, or he'd had a rookie record and Steve
Berlin actually Panthers legend in nineteen ninety nine also took
sixty two, so things they haven't always had this much
offensive line talent in Charlotte. But they just want to

(01:14:57):
stabilize and give Bryce a chance to breathe let him
hand off. I would imagine come regular season, Cuba Hubbard
is a name people are going to know after a
little bit. And I try not to get too deep
into fantasy numbers or anything like that.

Speaker 17 (01:15:09):
Cuba Hubbard gonna get a lot.

Speaker 22 (01:15:11):
Of touches, especially in September and October. So they just
want to make things normal around Bryce and then allow
him to grow into the guy they still think he
can become.

Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
The big question here is similar last year, you guys
drafted first overall played the quarterback here, it's when is
Drake maygan to be ready? They went out and got cha,
Kobe Brissett. What did you learn last year from watching
a rookie go quarterback get thrown into that fire, which
is what a lot of people here are kind of
just want. No matter how he looks, I.

Speaker 17 (01:15:38):
Learned he's tough.

Speaker 22 (01:15:39):
That I mentioned the sixty two sacks, he's uh and
he kept getting up and man, that's the thing coming
out obviously so much attention was on Bryce's size. He
is not a large man, not like Drake May Charlotte's
Drake May.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
But yeah, there you go.

Speaker 22 (01:15:52):
He's one of us. But he's not a big guy.
But he's a tough guy. He kept getting up. He's
got a little something about him. He's we've got some
of those things that coaches like to say that we
can't say on a family radio broadcast. He's got a
little bit of that to him, a little toughness, and
they think that's going to serve him well. I mean,
and again, last year was just so broken systemically. When

(01:16:13):
you fire a coach two months into a season, you
change play callers three times over the course of the year.
It was just systemically broken and nothing was going to work.
So I think you almost flushed last season. Don't pay
much attention to it and just take the little bit
of stuff you can glean from it, which is he
will get up. He does have some toughness. We know

(01:16:34):
he's smart, we know he's an accurate passer. Now you
create a situation around him that allows him to show
that off.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
What do you think paid off though from playing last year?
I mean, what are the things you scar tissue. I mean, yeah,
I mean that's kind of it. I mean new system.
I mean, it's kind of start over in some regards.

Speaker 17 (01:16:50):
It really is. And last year was bad.

Speaker 22 (01:16:53):
And having been around when Jimmy Clawson led him to
a two and fourteen that led straight to Cam Newton,
having been around when some other guys led to you know,
one in fifteen, I've seen it. And last year was
a bottom out moment for the Carolina Panthers, and they're
hoping that this energy Canalist brings allows him to reset.

Speaker 17 (01:17:12):
You know, in the same way.

Speaker 22 (01:17:13):
I mean in two thousand and two, the Carolina Panthers
came off one in fifteen went seven and nine.

Speaker 17 (01:17:18):
We're in Super Bowl.

Speaker 22 (01:17:19):
Two years later, in twenty ten, they go to and
fourteen draft Cam Newton first. Overall, you're six and ten
the next year en route to the Cam Newton we
all saw in a Super Bowl appearance against the Broncos.
So I think they're kind of in that same spot now.
Of this is where you kind of reassess, rebuild and
figure out what you've got around.

Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Bryce Outside of Bryce Young, What are you looking for tonight?
I mean, what is what are the Panthers going into
this game. Are there any players you know you think
have a chance to maybe pop a little bit?

Speaker 22 (01:17:49):
Yeah, well, well, guy, I'm curious to see is Caleb
and Chase on. I mean, when you're in kind of
a rebuild situation, you're willing to take flyers on guys
who were highly picked. Former Jaguars first round pick pass
rusher who's got little pop, but he's playing behind ja
Davian Clowney. You know, obviously he's not going to get
a lot of they're looking for him to be a
third type guy.

Speaker 17 (01:18:07):
He'll probably start tonight as my guest.

Speaker 22 (01:18:10):
And they'll you know, they're looking for options across the board.
The other thing about being two and fifteen last year,
they've got first order or first m waiverclaim order until
week four, so they're going to continue to use that.
They'll turn the bottom third of the roster between now
in the first couple of weeks of the season looking
at what everybody else has got. So you know, the
scouts are probably looking at Patriots reserves the same way

(01:18:32):
other people are looking at theirs.

Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Yeah, I'm curious.

Speaker 22 (01:18:35):
Sleepers for today, Sleepers for today? How deep of a
sleeper you want to go? I would say, here's undrafted
rookie wide receiver Jalen Coker from Holy Cross.

Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
That's my guy. There you go.

Speaker 22 (01:18:49):
And I knew that I did that all the purpose.
See it's a family reunion perfect. I did my research,
and I knew that sometimes.

Speaker 17 (01:18:57):
These things just work out, folks. Coker's an interesting guy.

Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
I mean, tell me all about it.

Speaker 17 (01:19:02):
He's looked good.

Speaker 22 (01:19:03):
I mean, he's he's an interesting project. They're really deep
at receiver though, I mean because when you stack up
the first round pick along with Jonathan Mingo, last year's
second round pick Deontay Johnson, Adam Thiel, and there's four
solid options at the top of the chart, so everybody's
kind of fighting for fifth, sixth, seventh, sort of rips.
And Coker's got a guy who's got a chance to
stand out in a preseason primarily because a lot of

(01:19:25):
those guys aren't playing.

Speaker 17 (01:19:26):
But he's looked good early on in can size.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
I mean, I talked to him at the combine and
of course I'm on alum, so I love him. But
just the contested catchability, what's this big thing? I mean,
he jumped out of the gym. Have you seen the
contested catch up on that.

Speaker 22 (01:19:39):
And again he makes tough catches, so and that's going
to allow you to stand out when you're an undrafted
rookie trying to make a team. The Carolina Panthers aren't
deep at terribly many positions. That might be one of them.

Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
Last question for me, Darren, just you know, what do
you kind of expect from this team this year? What
does a successful Panthers season, second year with Bryce Young
look like?

Speaker 17 (01:19:58):
Score some points. I think that would be good. Score touchdowns.

Speaker 22 (01:20:01):
People like those. People like it when you score touchdowns.
And you know I say that and it sounds flipped.
But their last two games last year were both shutout losses,
so you know, the energy was down, the points were down.
They need to prove competence on offense. They need to
stabilize things around Bryce. I keep using the word stable
and normal and that it doesn't sound very flashy or sexy.
That's why I don't work in ticketing. But at the

(01:20:24):
same time, that's where you've got to You've got to
get things normal and stable before you can begin the
build to where you think you want to go. And
I think that's kind of the goal for this year
is to make things normal around Bryce and see if
he's the guy who's going to lead you forward.

Speaker 3 (01:20:39):
Darren, I have a question kind of off the field,
but from a coaching standpoint, how do you think operationally
it's going to go for you? Someone called it and
asked us about our coaches because so many of them
are new to calling plays. Is there any of that
worry tonight? I guess going to tonight's game.

Speaker 22 (01:20:53):
I think there's a little bit of that that always
gets ironed out in the preseason. But the benefit is
Dave Canal has worked with most of this offense of
staff in Tampa last year, so these are mostly known commodities.
He and Brad Idziy know what each other's voice sounds like.
On the headset. They are still going to be calling
plays offensively, so they're going to iron a lot of
that stuff out. The defensive staff kind of returns intact

(01:21:14):
from last year, so those guys kind of handle their
own business. You guys over there do your thing. We'll
be over here working on offense. That's kind of how
it's going. But I think they're still trying to That's
what the preseason's for for them too, is figure out
how we're going to handle challenges and how the communication
flows and those kind of things.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Awesome. Well, Darren Panthers dot Com, thank you so much
for joining us coming to the studio. Always nice to
chat with you.

Speaker 17 (01:21:37):
It's good to meet long lost family members.

guess we'll see at the super Bowl.

Speaker 17 (01:21:43):

two years into this thing, see you at super Bowl

Light the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots,
and look forward to having a couple of bud Lights
this weekend, Paul. As the summer starts to wind down,
this is kind of wonderful time.

Speaker 4 (01:25:30):
You're gonna have to wait for that.

Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
We're going to do some drinking. I'm gonna do some drinking.
We got to enjoy the nice days while they last
here in New England.

Speaker 5 (01:25:36):
So I'm curious I stepped out to do Uh you
know my other obligation. Darren Gant came in and just
want to get your impressions. What does he think that
they'll doesn't sound like there's gonna be very many frontline
players playing, but now.

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
Well yeah, well, you know, I was curious about Bryce
Young just because of the debate here with Drake May
and playing, and you know, he mentioned how many sacks.
I forget what the exact number was that Bryce Young
took last year, and you know, it almost feels like
a start over for them, So it's it's hard to really,
you know, with the coaching staff getting canned early last
year and now a new coaching staff, it just doesn't
seem like there's a lot of continuity. So I think

(01:26:10):
that's you know, you hope that obviously doesn't happen here.
It's not gonna happen. How do you feel Young was
doing in camp? It seem okay, okay, I mean, I
don't know, it's kind of hard to read. It didn't.
It didn't seem like he was blown anybody away yet,
but uh talked a lot about running the ball chew
A Hubbard, you know, So I think it's this kind
of a similar situation where you're hoping that the ground
game can can do enough to protect your young quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:26:32):
So this could be good tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
Then a lot I think a lot of them. They're
running place.

Speaker 5 (01:26:37):
I think the Paul Parrello prediction of you know, some
of the two hours forty five minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
Oh, let's go, let's get it going, except for you know,
Joe Milton. Hopefully no incompletions or not going to the
tower over or anything like that. Uh, let's jump over
to the phones though, and go down to We're sticking
with a fleame in North Carolina tonight. That's where Kendall is.
Hey Kendall, it was going on.

Speaker 9 (01:26:56):
Guy.

Speaker 11 (01:26:56):
You doing good?

Speaker 10 (01:26:57):
Good?

Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
How are you all right?

Speaker 7 (01:26:59):
All right?

Speaker 23 (01:26:59):
I got one quick question for both of y'all. How
do you between now and probably I guess we wont
and and Eddie? If I had to guess right now,
who do you think? How do you think that why
receive depth tarts want to shape out?

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
Gotcha, PAULI thanks.

Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
So it's a good question.

Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
I would say that the three guys that will be
on the field together for the first time, that there's
three guys out there, Let's put it that way, you know,
like because My guess is the first place is gonna
have like two tight ends.

Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
That's the we're talking.

Speaker 5 (01:27:31):
So I'm gonna say to Mario, Douglas will definitely be
one of the three. He might not be the start,
you know what I mean, because if they only have two,
he might not be on the field. And then I'm
gonna say.

Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
This is top.

Speaker 5 (01:27:45):
I'm gonna go Jaalen Polk and I'm gonna say that
Kendrick Bourne is not ready.

Speaker 4 (01:27:49):
I'm gonna say kJ.

Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Osie, that's that's That's the two I would go with
for right now. I mean, it's it's hard to count
on anybody else at this point.

Speaker 5 (01:27:55):
Right Like, if you ask me in five minutes, I
might give you two different guys. Douglas would be a constant.
I might give you two different guys the next time
you ask me.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Maybe the better question, Paul is like, do you think
that there's anything that we can see in camp with
the joint practice two practice? I think we have Sunday money.
There is something to do. You think someone can separate
and will know it?

Speaker 5 (01:28:13):
And I think on like, if we look at the personnel,
the specific personnel, the first handful of plays against the Eagles.
I think that that will be telling, you know, in
the practice.

Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
All right, jump back to the phones here on PP
in the deuce pregame show, Can we can we do that?
Can we can we hijack the name real PP in
the Deduce pregame heading down to Virginia with Anthony with
a question Patriots record, Anthony, I don't like Anthony.

Speaker 24 (01:28:40):
Hello, I'm doing good. So as we all know, the
Patriots definitely not going to be super bound here. It's
been a year change with some new coach, new QB.
But how do we think the patriprioits are going to
do this? You're like, where do we think the feeling's
going to be?

Speaker 6 (01:28:58):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
Good question, Thank you, Anthony. I think that's I mean,
the million dollar question. That's, uh, you don't know anything anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:29:05):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:29:05):
I want to say ceiling is six wins. I think
that if they clean some things up, you know, so
delayed games, go away personnel, you know, the timeouts wasted,
which we've seen a lot of sloppiness the last couple
of years. I want to see that get cleaned up
and you know, you continue to play good defense, you know,

(01:29:27):
and maybe stay in some games.

Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
I think you could win, you know, and this has
provided that you stayed reasonably healthy and the other.

Speaker 5 (01:29:33):
Team stayed reasonably healthy. I think the schedule is difficult.
I will say six, six games, six wins.

Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
It's just hard to in context of what the actual
schedule is and wondering when Drake may might get in,
and you've got this weird thing of Buffalo twice in
the last three weeks, and you've got the Chargers, who
you know, may may be in the playoff mix coming here.
I have to look at it through those lenses of,
you know, specifically, if I mean, I don't know what

(01:30:01):
the record is, I'm kind of with you around six,
you know, it just it feels like they got four
last year. If they just are better than the worst
offense in the league, maybe they can they can get
a couple more. I'm concerned about the pass rush. But
when you look at it specifically through the lens of
does Drake may get in and start against the Chargers
and they're fighting for a playoff spot and maybe the
Patriots aren't. But the Patriots, you know, Drake may leads

(01:30:21):
them against the team that needs the win and knocks
them off, or you know, Josh Allen. Are they sitting
starters or are they actually playing for some kind of position?
Are you know, is Buffalo in the playoffs already or
are they you know, potentially looking at a number one
seed kind of thing. Could the Patriots upset them and
derail some of their plans? Kind of a lah Miami
back in what was that twenty nineteen when not really

(01:30:44):
much to play for the Patriots still fighting for seating
and the Dolphins came in here with Yan Fitzpatrick and
and you know, took it to them a little bit promising,
not that Tua was in there, but you know that
they had something going and that they got that monkey
kind of off of their back. So I don't know,
I look at it through that lens and I think
it's going back to ninety three with Bledsoe, And you know,
does it necessarily have to be a strong finish with

(01:31:06):
Drake May at quarterback? That's I mean, that's to me,
that's what I kind of want it to be. And
I feel like it has to be to really feel
great about next season where we've got something. Drake got
in there. He can play, He's going to know the
offense next year, you know, we're coming back to that.
Guys have seen what he can do. They're going to
want to play with Drake May. You know, those kind
of things. But you know, the fall six wins come

(01:31:27):
in like November, and then they kind of go zero
to four and you haven't really seen Drake May yet,
and you know, it's I don't know, there's just so
many different avenues. It's hard to predict, you, Yeah, and
it is.

Speaker 4 (01:31:35):
It's really hard to predict.

Speaker 5 (01:31:37):
I think that last year you would have not predicted
that in the fourth play of the season, Aaron Rodgers
goes down. You know that those kinds of things change
the complexion of your schedule. Right now, I look at
it and I'm like, you know, in the division, they
probably play three teams twice each that are better than them. Now,
last year you ended up winning two of those six games.

(01:32:00):
They do that again maybe you know who knows. And
then you made a lot of good points about when
you play a team if they're fighting for you know,
if you know, my guess is those three games, those
two in the last three for the Bills, those are.

Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
Going to be important games for Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (01:32:16):
So you probably are not going to sneak up on
them and you know, catch them, you know, sleeping playing
against the team that they're probably well ahead.

Speaker 4 (01:32:24):
Of in the standings at the time because they're going
to need those games. So it's hard. It's hard to predict.

Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
I think.

Speaker 5 (01:32:32):
If you can somehow, I would call it a successful year.
If you can just sort of steadily get better as
the year goes on, and get Drake Mayson sometime.

Speaker 4 (01:32:41):
I mean, just one problem and show promise.

Speaker 2 (01:32:42):
I mean one more point too, of Drake may going
to Buffalo in January, you know, playing a game in
that kind of condition and that kind of hostile great experience,
great experience. See how he reacts. I mean, I think
you know, we both remember how things look with with
young mac Jones going up to Buffalo or like I
remember you going.

Speaker 5 (01:32:59):
He looks, and I think if they can get him
some experience, I think it's imperative that he plays a
handful of games here and like like that Buffalo in
bad weather, because he probably doesn't have much experience doing it,
and that would be I think invaluable.

Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
Yeah, well, I gotta I gotta read this email because
it comes from Alexander, who just said I a little
disappointed in the lack of Jaws talk so far, but
now that we're on PP and the Deuce, Okay, he
does ask have any of you guys read the book?
And if not, I highly recommend it's great read. I
think I did. It's got like like missus Brodie's having
an affair with Hooper, like there's all kinds of other
stuff going on.

Speaker 5 (01:33:38):
Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that that didn't make
it in the movie. And actually, if you look at
Jaws two, let's go the beginning of Jaws two, there's
an inference there that the guy, the hotel developer there
is having an affair with with Brody.

Speaker 6 (01:33:54):
How can you do that?

Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
It's chief It's the chief of police, right. I'd also
like to just say public service announced, and everyone can
stop sending me the Orca lego set. I know. I'm
aware of it, and I will purchase it as soon
as I find one hundred and sixty bucks to pull
on the lego set as an adult. Maybe I'll get
it from my son from.

Speaker 5 (01:34:09):
Feel free to send in your trivia questions because Mike
do So has made a bit of a cottage industry,
appearing on ninety eight five The Sports Hub and being
peppered by Hardy with Jaws questions, and he has really
yet to miss I missed.

Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
One today, Paul, really a Jaws question.

Speaker 4 (01:34:26):
It's more of a music question.

Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
He's talking keys and you know, I mean it was
F N F sharp or the Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:34:32):
I like, that's not really a Jaws question. You knew
that the music.

Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
You knew exactly what's what they have to do to
get me, Paul, that's what they have to do to
get me, correct, because when you're this good, they're all
to get you.

Speaker 10 (01:34:41):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Do you expect any players to surprise us tonight with
a strong, stronger weak performance? Uh? I mean not specifically.
I mean I think that's part of the fun is
is not really knowing that one random guy in the preseason,
who's you know, gonna have a good game and then
we'll spend the next three days. Doesn't mean anything that
Terrell Jennings had, you know, a thirty five yard run
in the second quarter, you know, something like that, Like

(01:35:03):
those kind of plays that I mean, Paul, you've been
watching preseason forever, Like, are there is there anything over
the last twenty five years that you that sticks out
in your mind when you talk about something from the
preseason that really made you go, wow, that was interesting.

Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
But like I would ask, I can think of a
handful of individual performances that really stood out, like, you know,
you want to really get into the weeds, let's go
like like Brian Tims. You remember Brian Timms. Yeah, I
remember a couple of like deep touchdown catches and people
losing their minds, you know, Bishop, go back further, Sean Moury,
same kind of stuff. Just these individual plays that happened.

(01:35:40):
Austin Carr, Remember Austin Carr. Yeah, They're neither surprising nor
you know, expected, they just happened because in the preseason.
I'm sorry to sound like this, It just like it
doesn't really matter, you know. And a lot of those
guys that were talking Bam Childress, a lot of these

(01:36:01):
guys that we're talking about, they never even made the team.
Some of them stuck around practice squad, kicked around here
or there. But they worked hard and they were good players,
but they just weren't quite good enough, you know, someone
I'm expecting to you know, like, who would I be surprised?
I can't say anybody, like I could see any of
the receivers that we've talked about, you know, catching five

(01:36:24):
balls for seventy yards tonight. Kayshawn Boody absolutely could do.

Speaker 4 (01:36:28):
That, and I wouldn't be surprised. Yeah, wouldn't surprise me.

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
David Wallace is kind of in that mold of guys.
David Wallace would surprise me. He's struggled, but he's he's
in that mold of like you know, the little white
slot receiver that's kind of quick, like I don't know,
it's just that was. He's going to play the whole
second half, the whole thing, right, He's gonna be dusting
that seventh slot cornerback on the Devil Melt.

Speaker 5 (01:36:47):
It's going to be buying time and David Wallace is
going to be springing free.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
Big high archer. Yeah, I mean, I I am, I
gotta admit, I mean, come second half, that's I'm just
I'm Joe Milton time, Like, let's just go. I But
do you agree?

Speaker 5 (01:36:59):
Like I think sometimes I can get dismissive and I
don't necessarily mean to no, I mean performances.

Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
I just don't think I've been doing it long enough
to know that. You know, there are certain guys that
I mean and I hate bringing up Gunner Ol Shesky.
But that was just one where coming out of that
last preseason game where you know, I get an interception,
you know, like he was just playing a ton and
you're like and it was annoying because you're like, well, Hent,
he's not that good, you know, And then and he
wasn't and he ended up making the team, you know,

(01:37:28):
for a variety of reasons. But you know, for the
first game tonight, and I think everybody's still kind of
recalibrating or just there's no set formula anymore for the
preseason about who plays when, of dress rehearsals, of the
fourth game being only the guys who are on the bubble.
You know. It's just each team seems to be handling
it differently. And I mean Caroline is not even gonna
play price on Tim.

Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
Yeah, And I don't know what's going to happen moving forward.

Speaker 5 (01:37:51):
I you know, Girod said that everybody's going to play tonight,
everybody that's healthy. My guess is that won't be the
case next week because you have the joint practices.

Speaker 4 (01:38:00):
Well, I'm curious next.

Speaker 5 (01:38:01):
Week if we ask him, you know, say on Monday
or Tuesday, he might say no, like you know, some
of those starters they got their reps today, you know,
against against Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
All right, that's a couple of emails here Jack and
Ann Armor. He says his training camp crushes key On
White again. I wish I could say it like I
want it. I want it to happen, but like I
just have to see it and maybe tonight. He's a
guy that plays a little bit and you know, makes
some noise. He certainly has the disposition. No no, no, no, no,
no no no. All right, this is I'm gonna Burt

(01:38:32):
Butcher this name. But Hi, I'm gonna say dr might,
dr might? I think I don't know Uk, Sorry for
busting it U from Castill ellen Man in Ireland. Geez,
my Irish roots are my Irish ancestors are turnover and
their grave, hoping for a good hoping for a good
start to I just like to say not getting Ayuka
is a good thing. Don't think he's a top five

(01:38:52):
Think in time may will come good and hope we
can keep jewte on and wait to see next off
season for a top wide receiver. I just Paul, like,
you know, I know they got out and I you
know you don't. You don't get points for trying, But
I just would say I'm encouraged that, Like, it just
seems they understand they need that guy, and when those
guys come available now, whether it's you know, Ceedee Lamb
or whatever, like, I just feel confident that they're going

(01:39:14):
to try to be in the mix with a lot
of these guys. And maybe you know, those guys aren't
gonna want to come here yet, but like at least
I feel like they understand and it's not going to
take a depressed asset who's a star wide receiver for
them to go out and grab that guy.

Speaker 9 (01:39:27):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
It's just it seems like they get it. So I'm
encouraged by that. I'm not overly disappointed that they didn't
get Ayuk. I like that they suddenly just put it
out there like, yeah, we're out. You know, we're not
going to be used as a as a bargaining chip.
And as we see this is you know, continuing to
drag on with Ayuk. It's definitely a piece of the
offense needs and I think they understand that. So that's
what I'm encouraged by. I'm not overly disappointed, And you know,

(01:39:47):
I think it's just going to give a chance to
these younger kids, and you know, hopefully Baker or somebody
can pop on the outside.

Speaker 5 (01:39:52):
So I totally agree with everything you said, and I
don't have any problem with either side. I think the
Patriots aggressively pushed a guy that was available, and that
guy decided he didn't want to come here, and that's
his prerogative.

Speaker 4 (01:40:06):
And I have no problem with either side.

Speaker 5 (01:40:09):
I have a problem with like, Okay, we didn't get him,
so I'm glad we didn't get him, Like because he's
not a top five.

Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
I didn't like you, Like, what does that even mean?

Speaker 4 (01:40:16):
Like he's not a top five?

Speaker 5 (01:40:19):
So he's like, what, he's eight, So yeah, I don't
want him because he's not top five.

Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
Jennerson, Yeah, yeah, yeah, well you gotta put a number
on it.

Speaker 4 (01:40:26):
I mean, I'm disappointed we're not gonna lie. I was
on this show on Tuesday on Unfiltered.

Speaker 5 (01:40:30):
We were here, you know, a little bit of a
different set, but you know, we were here and we
were all excited like that there's a there's a you know,
an elite player that's available and the Patriots are going
after him.

Speaker 4 (01:40:44):
Like that was exciting and I'm sorry. It was disappointing
the next day to wake up, you know, two mornings
later and read that, you know it wasn't gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's just he.

Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
Wasn't interested in coming here. That was disappointing.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
I just you know, I always get we joke about
x Y he went two three and he would have
That's that's the piece they need. And I don't know
where he ranks in the league, but like that is
the piece that they need. They seem to understand it still.
So you know, he's he was.

Speaker 5 (01:41:09):
Going to get paid like one of the top receivers. Yeah,
and there's going to be other guys that are going
to get paid more, Like it's gonna have seed Lamb's
going to get more.

Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:41:19):
You know, so like yet, what point do you just say, like, yeah,
I want one of those. Yeah, Like I don't care
about the money.

Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
No, And in a perfect world that they would develop it,
they would draft it. I mean, you know, in a
perfect world, Jayvon Baker develops into that guy and you
get a couple of years out of him before he starts,
you know, kicking his heels about I need a new
contract now. You know, that's I mean, that's the way
to do it. And we said it all off season,
and you've got to rebuild through the draft. You've got
to stack these draft classes. And you know, I think

(01:41:44):
some of these guys have shown promise, and you know,
there's just but there's still work to be done and
a lot to learn about a lot of these guys
on this roster. And well, Paul, we're gonna go back
to North Carolina, Jared, because a lot of North Carolina
I know, Hey, the Panthers are here. And it sounds
like Jared's got a Brendan's Schooler question and hey, Jared.

Speaker 11 (01:42:02):
Hey, guys, just kind of a random one. Does Brendan
Schooler ad anything other than special teams? Like last year, I.

Speaker 23 (01:42:09):
Was kind of getting free irritated with.

Speaker 9 (01:42:11):
His antics on punts.

Speaker 22 (01:42:14):
Yeah, got a lot.

Speaker 13 (01:42:15):
Of like personal fouls he did.

Speaker 23 (01:42:17):
I was just wondering, is he adding anything on defense
or does he.

Speaker 4 (01:42:22):
They're trying to see if he can.

Speaker 5 (01:42:24):
You know, Thanks always talked about that, and it's it's
a really good question.

Speaker 4 (01:42:28):
I don't think he does. I just don't see it.

Speaker 5 (01:42:32):
But they're giving him opportunities with second and third groups
to provide some depth on the back end at safety,
and I don't I don't know how you feel, Mike,
if you think I'm being harsh. I haven't really seen
much of it, but I think as a special teamer
he's a staple on those units. But you're right to
point out his lack of discipline last year. I think
it hurt the team at times. He had to have

(01:42:54):
two or three unnecessary personal fought like you know, sort
of pushing and shoving after whistle kind of personal files.
Not like you know, I'm getting blocked and maybe I
got a guy's face mask extra unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
But yeah, like just hot headedness. Yeah, And he talked
a little bit about it with Slater retiring that you
know he's open to set step into a little bit
more of a leadership role. And thanks to Matt Morrell
just let me know tweet here, Bryce Young will have
plenty of company on the sideline that you let stay.
Thank you, Matt Lapan. Sorry, thirty two other Panthers players

(01:43:27):
are sitting out first the Patriots, including just about everyone
of significance. So it is what it is. No, but
you know we're not here to watch the Panthers anyway.
And you know it's Paul's been kind of saying he
thinks it's set up well for the Patriots maybe to
have a I don't want to call it a get
right game, Paul, but maybe you know, some of these
lower end Panthers players, guys from the depth chart, that

(01:43:47):
will give the Patriots some opportunities just to you know, work,
They're not going against the star, star star kind of players.

Speaker 5 (01:43:52):
Maybe, Yeah, I would think that the Patriots number is
going to be less than that, you know, maybe fifteen.

Speaker 4 (01:43:59):
Yeah, just not not in uniform.

Speaker 2 (01:44:01):
But we'll see no one active tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:44:03):
Yeah, you don't get any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
And Tony from Toronto writes, And did did Julian Edelman
return to kick kickoff in the preseason his rookie year?
I feel like I remember a video of Bill needling
Welker about Yes, it was I believe a punt actually,
which he returned in his rookie year, big big return
for Edelman. Bill then had to ask Ernie who who proceeded?
Was that Wally pitp right was before? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:44:29):
He said something, No, who was he?

Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
You're the baseball guy, lou Gar.

Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
And that's what he asked. Wes Welker if he had
known him, he can have it, you know, he can
have it. Way to compete, good luck, way to compete.
West's burned in b and we never heard from you know,
sort of indicative of that sort of relationship kind of yeah,
you know, starting to fray.

Speaker 6 (01:44:52):
A little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
Yeah, it was. I I was catching up a little
bit on Hard Knocks the other day. I was just
watching a little bit of the Welker coaching in Miami.
Just weird. Never we'll never get used to seeing Walker
down there in Miami. But question from Johnny in Hamburg, Germany,
when does give me in a little compliment about how
I'm doing host him? But we'll leave that out, but
thank you. When will we get a feeling about the
new coaching vision? But I think he said, you're doing

(01:45:14):
great jobs.

Speaker 4 (01:45:15):
You're doing a job, doing great jo after a terrible start.

Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
I know the start was bad. I was a little
thrown off because it's just the new open. It was
so amazing by Matt Morrell.

Speaker 4 (01:45:23):
I think you've tried a fine job.

Speaker 2 (01:45:24):
Matt used Ai in the production steering the ship, and
we got Ai songwriting now here on the shows.

Speaker 5 (01:45:28):
He dropped one call matter of fact, I'm gonna text
Hardy right now, so not one missed call.

Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
I'm waiting for Fred to call in and then purposely
hang up just to get I'm surprised Hardy hasn't done it.
They told well, he's got a probably he's probably already
asleep though, Paul, he's got to get up, very very true.
It got his beauty sleep there. But we do miss Hardy,
and I should say we didn't give out the key,
the ultimate key. Tamara is gone. You do have it,
so I don't know. Maybe if we get somebody want
to call in, maybe we'll give out the key.

Speaker 5 (01:45:55):
Not that I'm lobbying for it, smooth.

Speaker 1 (01:46:00):
Where can we hang that in there?

Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
Well, it shouldn't there be a place of honor in here.

Speaker 5 (01:46:03):
I don't know, as we're just hanging around my next
we got like six I'm gonna win it thirteen out
of eighteen weeks, so we got good. We got a
bunch of football.

Speaker 9 (01:46:10):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
Maybe put it over one of those. But but yeah,
we'll if somebody wants to call in or you know,
you recommend what was the best one. I think Tamara
had had left. You had something about why don't we
let the listeners, the people decide, we're none of the people. Uh, well,
we're gonna. We're gonna like Grant Manchester before we're done,
don't forget. Oh I won't, And I'm gonna kick it
off right here with one before we get to This

(01:46:32):
is an unofficial one because it's coming from Grant and Manchester.
Over Under on Joe Milton backflips one point five, I
must say, Under, do you think he's wrapping it up?
He's keeping the back.

Speaker 4 (01:46:44):
He might do it at practice and stuff, but I
don't think you'll see it on it.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
We'll see I see him launch one right into the lighthouse,
double backflip boom, you know, boom, boom, roast hast But
why don't we Why don't we hop right in though
into those over unders?

Speaker 8 (01:46:58):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (01:47:01):
It's time for this week's edition of over Unders.

Speaker 17 (01:47:07):
Oh oh it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:47:08):
I know, like that just starts to this little found.

Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
That does give you a little fire. I know, I know,
I like it all. Right, here we go twenty twenty
four Over Unders. Jacoby Brissette drives darted two point five.

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Paul, are you gonna recuse yourself from this one?

Speaker 8 (01:47:27):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:47:27):
So I know where you're going with this, but I'm
gonna say under. Anyway, I'm gonna say under. I think
he starts the game, but I don't think you'll see
you very much of Jacoby Brissett.

Speaker 2 (01:47:37):
You think, all right, uh, y'all go under two? Why not?
I'm gonna give you the under though, too.

Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
Drake may touchdown passes one and a half?

Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
Oh, you go first?

Speaker 5 (01:47:47):
Over over, Mike just wants to be excited.

Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
Come on, yeah, I'm gonna say under.

Speaker 5 (01:47:51):
I think a lot of times these preseason games are
not the most artistic when it comes to precise offense.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
Probably fair, but I'm an optimist.

Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
Sorry, I'm dancing longest. Joe Milton completion thirty five and
a half or just thirty thirty five or just in
a half years.

Speaker 5 (01:48:09):
That's that's a long completion, So I don't throw it
out the window, though, I'm gonna say under. This is
one that I would say is be fun though if
we could see some big players. We're all about the
fun here.

Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
Mike's about fun.

Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
I wanna go under too, though.

Speaker 4 (01:48:22):
Oh that's so fun.

Speaker 1 (01:48:23):
Tonight Patriots miss kicks one and a half?

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
Oh, Chad Ryland, Joey Sly what do you think, Paul,
You think they go back and forth tonight or just
one guy goes, the next guy gets. It'll go back
and forth, back and forth.

Speaker 4 (01:48:35):
But I that's not one that I have any inside
information on it.

Speaker 2 (01:48:39):
Ah, let's go under. Yeah, nobody misses nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:48:42):
I'm gonna say under as well. We're not gonna miss
two kicks tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
That's ridiculous. Not too much blood backups.

Speaker 1 (01:48:48):
Panthers total touchdowns two and a hay.

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
Oh geez under. Come on, it's like there's six stringers.

Speaker 4 (01:48:54):
Yeah, I want to take the under.

Speaker 2 (01:48:55):
Two.

Speaker 4 (01:48:55):
There's thirty two guys not playing.

Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
Yeah. Under O'Shane Ziminez alone will prevent any touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (01:49:01):
And a total score, a total final score of thirty
five points.

Speaker 2 (01:49:05):
That's so many points, Matt, that's so many points. I'm
going under.

Speaker 4 (01:49:09):
Yeah, I'm gonna sack to you under as well.

Speaker 5 (01:49:12):
And I just made myself sick by picking six straight unders.

Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
Well, it is the preseason and pretty good. All right,
we're off. We got some over and unders. We you know,
we didn't know no six no six pounder this week, right, nobody,
nobody cares to pick no six pack this week.

Speaker 1 (01:49:29):
But the instrumental is great.

Speaker 2 (01:49:30):
The instrumental is great. Add a little flavor, great job
to the mat.

Speaker 1 (01:49:33):
I meant the new six pack instrumental.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Oh yeah, they're all great. I like them. Well, let's
keep the games going though San fram Maryland, providing us
with a little game, which is more likely, no matter
how silly. So we like these. All regular season is included.
Start with number one. May starts three games or doesn't
get first in game reps until week fifteen. So you

(01:49:55):
think he starts three games or he doesn't get in
until week fifty. I guess he could. Why can't fifteen
and then get fifteen? Sixteen and seven? We just poked
a hole in your question there. But what do you think?
I don't know how many games think he plays.

Speaker 5 (01:50:08):
I think he'll play start, I think he'll start.

Speaker 4 (01:50:13):
I'm gonna go six games, six games. I can name that.
Tune in six notes.

Speaker 2 (01:50:16):
Six wins, six starts. I see what you do?

Speaker 4 (01:50:18):
Whoa whoa six wins, six starts.

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
Judn't plays five games for the Patriots.

Speaker 5 (01:50:23):
Fans, do you think, like, just out of curiosity, if
they had, if they won six games this year and
May started all six and won all six, like the
last six. Do you think fans would lose their Oh yeah, ever.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Why didn't we put him in earlier? Yeah? Yeah, but
it'd be exciting times for sure, especially you knock Buffalo
off twice in the end, like that'd be pretty pretty sweet.

Speaker 5 (01:50:44):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
Judah plays five games for the Patriots or gets nine sacks,
we think it's more likely. It's weird because I think
those things are totally connected. Those things are totally connected.
Like if Judon didn't play five games, I don't think
gets nine sacks. But if he does play five games,
it's more likely.

Speaker 5 (01:50:59):
I know what you mean that about Judon, You know,
with Judan. I think Judah will play five games.

Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Yeah, me too, me too, And has been a little
a litt dinged up. I'm sure he'll He won't be
out there to night.

Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
It seems a little perturbed.

Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
Yeah, you signed the deal. Guy, I don't know what
you are. Don't get it waited? Uh, Patriots have two
two Pro bowlers on offense or four Pro bowlers on defense.

Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
I'm gonna say two Pro bowlers on offense.

Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
Yeah, four is a lot. Yeah, especially without Barn Moore.

Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
Either one of those things that is gonna happen to you.

Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
See, Michael when you maybe maybe.

Speaker 5 (01:51:35):
I could make an argument for for alignment and you
know one of the skill position guys, Hunter, Henry, it's
a good one.

Speaker 2 (01:51:44):
It's good one. I don't know. Uh, Mike has three
swear words during all the shows this year, or Fred
personally recruits a player to the team. Well, I mean,
I've made it through so far without a swear where
it's a very happy deuce. There's no swearing under your breath, Paul.
They haven't played a game that's a post game. We know, yeah,
we know, it's a postgame thing. What usually gets me

(01:52:04):
to swear, though, is when i'm perturbation loss six zero. Yeah,
oh yikes. Love the show and can't wait for the
content you all produce. Best PATS group by far, That
is right, Sam and Uh. We're excited to keep going
here with our new studio. And of course it's still
time for a call if you guys want to call in.

(01:52:25):
We're starting to wrap things up start at time seven o'clock.
And again if you missed it, Paul's gonna be in
studio the Bob's Discount Studio furniture, but none other than
Brian's Choir. The furniture in the studio will not be discount,
though it'll be really nice stuff. They'll look great.

Speaker 5 (01:52:41):
But yeah, it's a little bit different for anybody that
might be tuning in the you know later in our
show and hasn't really heard any of it.

Speaker 6 (01:52:48):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:52:48):
The the regular broadcast tonight that we're going to have
is going to be a little different than it has been.
Scott Zolac will be in the booth as usual, but
instead of having Bob soci with him as he does
on the radio, he's going to be joined by Devin
and Jason mccordy, and there'll be a three man booth.
Will be a lot of conversation, a little less focus
on down in distance and things like that, and more

(01:53:11):
focus on sort of big picture development of the young quarterbacks,
Gerrod Mayo's first year, first game in the new coaches
seventeen new coaches on the staff. Be a lot to
talk about that in the Bob's Discount Furniture studio, not
studio furniture, but furniture studio will be myself and Brian

(01:53:32):
Hoyer and Brian will be hopefully on the telestrator a
couple of times breaking down some of the plays that
the quarterbacks are involved with, specifically Drake May and probably
maybe a little Joe Milton in the second half if
time allows.

Speaker 4 (01:53:45):
But it'll be some conversation.

Speaker 5 (01:53:47):
So I would appreciate it if you guys listen and
give some positive feedback. And you know, because I'm very
excited to be part of the show again, and I
think the tweaks that we've made in the broadcast, and
I love Bob soci so this is not meant to
be a shot at Bob, but this is, I think
is a little bit more conversational as opposed to that
traditional play by play, And I know some people don't

(01:54:09):
like that, but I think if you, if you really
give it a listen, it should have a good sort
of analytical feel to the broadcast tonight as opposed to
just kind of giving you what you're already seeing. So
we hope, we hope, we have we have a lot
of we have high hopes for this.

Speaker 2 (01:54:24):
Do you think will they spin off anything and any
clips of this? I mean it feels like this will
be prime territory to you know, spin off a clip
of you know, Howyer providing sense sight, you know for
maybe you know, much higher level asking him an expert
question that really gets to the heart of the matter, and.

Speaker 4 (01:54:39):
Play at the game. What is he seeing right here?

Speaker 2 (01:54:41):
You might know this.

Speaker 5 (01:54:42):
Yeah, I'm going to do a lot of you know,
probably teeing up Brian. And because I like listen, I'm
not one of these guys, and I tease Evan a
lot and and but I'm not one of these guys
that pretends to know. And I like football. I like watching.
I know when I see a good play, and I
know when I see a good player. But players know

(01:55:03):
schemes and blocking assignments and routes and coverages, and I
like to lean on players to tell me that stuff.
And I think that's what we're gonna be doing with
with Jason and Devin, and certainly for the quarterbacks with Brian.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
So I think it's gonna work out what offense you got,
defense you got you know, Zoe, It's it's I mean
Mitch and Albany to be happy. He emailed in, is
there a Perillo cast that I can watch tonight? So
they're not coming with the Perilo cast? Are they? They should?
They should?

Speaker 5 (01:55:28):
I think I would do uh do well on the
Pat McAfee show. I think people seemed he seemed to
like me last year when he was ripping me from
my accent.

Speaker 2 (01:55:37):
Pp pp and the hoy dog. I don't know. I
mean it's that doesn't have it doesn't have the same
PEP in the dues is the best one. But but yeah,
so you know, real quick though, Paul, we mentioned to
me practice Sunday. We got a joint practice on Tuesday.
You know, anything you kind of feel like in this
next week the team is gonna need regardless of what
happens tonight, I mean, this will be you know, we'll
get a bunch of great question.

Speaker 5 (01:55:58):
Probably wanted to bring that one up before the That's
what we do to bring up. That's a great question
in all seriousness, Like.

Speaker 4 (01:56:06):
What do they need? I think they need to tackle?

Speaker 2 (01:56:08):
Yeah, health, health.

Speaker 5 (01:56:10):
In the car, they need to tackle. I mean, I
don't care if they're all healthy. They need a tackle.
They haven't anybody that looks like you can play left tackle?
Am I wrong on that? So they need tackles, probably
two of them.

Speaker 4 (01:56:23):
And you know, they probably need a cornerback.

Speaker 5 (01:56:25):
I think they need a running back too, Like I
think there was still I'm going to be interested if
if Elliott Wolf goes to Bill Belichick route, you know,
at at cutdown, and it's not.

Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
Necessarily the fifty three that you keep.

Speaker 5 (01:56:37):
It's maybe the fifty or so that you keep and
then two or three others that you take from someone else.

Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
Yeah, two points for me. Just Bramandra Stevenson. I just
think is such a valuable piece again, and when he
went down last year, it was just I mean, and
especially now where they're telling us how much the offense
needs to, you know, be predicated off the run. You know,
I just I think that that he's such an important piece.
I'd love to just get Marcus Jones back there. And
I mean, it's just it's frustrating with him because let's
face it, it's here three, it's injuries. I mean, he

(01:57:03):
had a pretty good start to camp. He was active,
he was around, and you know, without him, there's just
not and not even that he's a clear answer in
the slot, but he was at least an intriguing option
that you haven't really seen get a full chance yet.
And you know, we were hoping after the break last
weekend when they had Sunday off to come back to
Monday's padded practice, that he would be back. He wasn't back.
I mean he is coming out there in pads at

(01:57:25):
the end of practice, Like it's kind of weird. All
of a sudden, I see him like pop up and
it's like, wait, did I miss him today because he's
out there in pad But you know, I think it's
a I don't know if that's different about this era.
I mean, am I forgetting Paul that, like you're Marcus Jones, Like,
you know, like guys tend to come out now, like
and I don't remember that as much in the previous regime.

Speaker 5 (01:57:43):
That usually when you saw guys come out, it was
guys that you know, like Kendrick Bourne would come out
like a guy who's been out for a while, and
you start to see him come out and you're like, oh,
he's getting closer. Yeah, we're seeing guys now like Taekwon Thornton,
you know, Joshua Uce, Marty Marpou who all.

Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
You know, they haven't.

Speaker 5 (01:58:00):
Really done anything and then you see, you know, they're
out there, so you don't know exactly what's going on.
But yeah, I think it is a little different in
that regard Marcus Jones. You know, I think that he
came out and he threw a helmet on and caught
some punts. I don't really think he necessarily was ready
to go.

Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
Yeah, no, no, definitely not. It was uh, you know,
and then I mean, even like Marty Mapho, he's you know,
missing and then he comes out and he's just, you know,
kind of man on an island watching practice. I mean,
this is you know, it's it's they're kind of in
the same boat, these young players. You know, Mapu in
his second year, Jones in his third year. That you know,
injuries have just derailed them. And you know, if there's

(01:58:38):
one thing I can say for some of the rookies
and certainly not all of them, it's just that, you know,
Polk's been out there every single day. I mean, Baker
missed a few days in mini camp, but he's been
out there every single day. May's been out there every
single day. Caden Wallace has gotten banged up a little
bit and that's unfortunate. I truly wonder if he's gonna
gonna address tonight. Would love to love it if he's
able to go, because I just think, I mean, am

(01:59:00):
I crazy to think going into a preseason game with
just four tackles, especially two that right now are like
the last two standing that that I mean or even
any kind of hope that that you have. I mean,
other guy is an undrafted rookie. Kellen Dash has been around.
I mean it's you know, it's like, right, if Darian
Lowe went down tonight, as much as we kind of say,
Vaderian Lowe is not a lot of tackle like, they're
in even deeper trouble.

Speaker 5 (01:59:19):
Yeah, I mean so they I mean they have guys though, right,
I mean it's I mean like they have. So it's
going to be low and Anderson to start, and then
you're going to get right to Wallace and Henry.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
I mean, I don't know if Wallace goes, that's I mean,
he's you know, Walla. He's been kind of missing up
a little bit, Yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:59:36):
Yeah, I haven't seen him miss any time.

Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
I think he's missed a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:59:40):
All right, Well, if he I mean I've been expect
I'm expecting him to play. And then that guy they
just signed.

Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
What kellensh Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:59:52):
Zuri Henry tackle sixty five exactly, he's a tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:59:57):
Well, I mean who's playing. That's the whole point. He
Andrew stop, let's go. Thanks for asking all right, that's
gonna do it for the Patriots Pregame Show, fuel by Duncan.
