Bad Wimpfen an der Burgenstrasse hat etwas mehr als 7.000 Einwohner und liegt zwischen Heidelberg und Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg.
Die romantische Stadt-Silhouette wird geprägt durch die größte Kaiserpfalz der Staufer nördlich der Alpen. Staufer-Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa soll im Jahr 1182 den Bau dieser mittelalterlichen Burganlage in Auftrag gegeben haben, um hier Hof zu halten und Recht zu sprechen.
Ganz in der Nähe der Kaiserpfalz wurden im Spätmittelalter zusätzlich Ritter-Burgen errichtet, die dem Schutz der Staufer-Herrscher dienten. Auch deshalb ist die Burgenstrasse mit vielen mittelalterlichen Burgen "gepflastert".

Bad Wimpfen an der Burgenstrasse hat übrigens nicht nur eine Kaiserliche Pfalz: Hier lässt es sich auch „fürstlich“ übernachten. Vor ein paar Jahren hat - nur ein paar Schritte von der historischen Altstadt entfernt - das luxuriöse Hotel Neues Tor eröffnet.
