Konstanz ist die größte Stadt am Bodensee und liegt ganz im Süden Deutschlands in Baden-Württemberg. Die Stadt hat 86.000 Einwohner und grenzt an die Schweiz. Konstanz ist mit der benachbarten Schweizer Stadt Kreuzlingen so eng zusammengewachsen, daß die Staatsgrenze mitten zwischen einzelnen Strassen und Häusern hindurchläuft.
Da auch Österreich und Liechtenstein nur ein paar Kilometer entfernt sind, nennt sich das Gebiet rund um Konstanz auch die „Vier-Länder-Region“.
