Oldenburg liegt in Niedersachsen, etwa 100 Kilometer von der holländischen Grenze entfernt. Die 170.000-Einwohner-Stadt hat eine interessante Geschichte: So wurde zum Beispiel 1448 der Oldenburger Graf Christian I. zum König von Dänemark gewählt. Und der Oldenburger Regent Peter Friedrich Ludwig war ein Cousin der russischen Kaiserin ("Zarin") Katharina der Grossen.
