Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome Spot podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Welcome to the Prospects Live Dynasty podcast, episode number eighty.
It is Wednesday, August twentieth, twenty twenty five. I am
your host, Greg du Camp. I'm the director of Dynasty
content for Prospects Live, and I was not able to
get any of my Dynasty team on this podcast tonight.
They are all very busy this week. So I was
able to scraunch up a couple of guys off the
(00:36):
street and we're going to try and do a podcast
here below me, here on the screen, is our director
of pro Scouting. He is one half of our Bally's
Live team. He is one third of the on Deck podcast,
Reese White. How are you, Reese?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
I am good. I am in a massive amount of pain.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
My back is tightened up and just not It's not
pretty on my part, but I'm excited. This is almost
like a crossover episode between all three podcast offerings. All
we need is one of the Dynasty Baseball pickup guys
to show up and where we've collected all the podcasting
infinity stones if you have alluded to it.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
We have brought on a member of our Amateur Hour podcast.
He's also a member of our pro Scouting Team. Trevor, who,
welcome for your first appearance on the Dynasty Podcast.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yes, thank you for having me. You really meant to
when you said off the street you both have directors
in your title. I'm just that other guy here. I
guess comic relief. Maybe I don't know what I do here.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
I really don't know what to expect in this podcast.
It could go off the rails in any moment, but
we will do our best to navigate through. In this episode,
Reached Trevor and I will discuss the recent Dynasty Top
fifteen hundred update, which just went live. Before doing so, though,
we'll have a couple of topics to talk about this evening.
This past weekend, as we know, was the little league
(01:58):
game that happened to Williams, Pennsylvania for Sunday night. Baseball.
Little League, as we know, is baseball really in its
purest form. Although I did hear about people betting on
little leagues? Did you guys hear about that? And isn't
that crazy that people would do that?
Speaker 1 (02:15):
It is insane. I did not hear about that. That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I wouldn't put anything past people there is that's it's
their kids.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
You shouldn't be doing that.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
No, they need to have rules about that. They shouldn't
even be allowed to do like anyway. Sorry, Yeah, everything
else about the Little league is pure baseball. It's where
you learn the game. It's where you learn how to
be a good teammate, how to be a leader, all
your fundamentals, everything like that. So I wanted to go
back in time, boys and tell me about a little
(02:50):
league memory you had that kind of stands out in
your mind. So Recee will go to you first.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
So I did not have this illustrated baseball career. I
don't know if people know. That's why I'm podcasting these days.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Nome shok.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
We've had people who've gone on and played college baseball.
I think we have a couple of D two former
D two pitchers. Trevor played collegiate baseball. I quit playing
at a very young age because I was terrified of
the ball being thrown at me, which is kind of
a prerequisite for the sport, if we're being one hundred
percent honest. I did once. It's not my prot one
of my proudest moments as the effort. I used to
(03:21):
scorekeeper for my brother's team. My brother went on to
play college to college baseball. I was a scorekeeper when
I fractured a lot of the bones of my top
my left fot idol is frank injury, and I got
ejected from a game that I was the official scorekeeper at.
So they had to figure out what they were going
to do when the official scorekeeper for the game, the
one person you can't throw out from the game, got
(03:42):
ejected because I was arguing balls and strikes despite being
the official scorekeeper.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
That that's impressive. I've never heard of a scorekeeper getting
toss from the game. That's awesome. Trevor, tell me about
a a little league memory.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
You have, Yeah, yea.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
So I, as rehis mentioned, I did go on to
play college baseball at the Division III level. I was
not good at baseball for a very long time, and
somehow just kept playing.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I don't know how.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I was like the guy who you didn't want on
your team that you put at the end of the bench,
stuck in the outfield at the end of games and
you hope the ball wasn't hit that direction. And I
was just left handed. So people are like, yeah, I
keep playing, and eventually I became a pitcher. Whatever happened
when I was in high school, and it worked out.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I did have.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
One year in little league where I was in the way.
It was an age group. I was the top end
of the age group, so I was old for the level,
if you want to put.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
It that way.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
And I did make an All Star team. I was
very proud of that. I was like, hey, I'm finally
good at this.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I was not.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
And I also made it to college and wasn't very
good as a college pitcher either, but I was very
proud of my Hey, I get to wear this all
Star hat, this all Star jersey for like three.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Games, like this is so cool.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
That's like my good little league memory, other than just
not being very good at baseball somehow blossoming to become okay.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Enough excellent.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I'm going between a couple here. I started playing baseball later,
like ten years old, and we don't really in Canada.
We didn't really have like a little league as it
is in the United States. So I played on a
house league team and I was too good for it.
I just and I ended up entering a hit, run
and throw competition for my town and I want it.
(05:28):
And then I got picked up by a travel team.
That's sort of how my baseball career started. And then
I eventually went to play on college as well. But
I just I just enjoyed playing it as a kid.
The Blue Jays were really good at that time, and
that really got me interested in the game, and it
kind of fed into it there. And I think that's
a big influence on when you're a kid, is if
your local team or the team you have fandom for
(05:51):
is good at that time, your interest in the game
just explodes, I think, and that happens in certain communities
around when when team to have dynasties or good runs
as well. So, anyway, did you guys watch the game
on Sunday night at all?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I did not.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
I heard that there's been a lot of controversy with
like off the field stuff with this tournament, though I
didn't look into it more than that.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I haven't heard anything about it at all.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Now, Oh no, that's softball. Sorry, there's a whole softball
scandal going on right now. Like I think, like one
of the coaches is like recruiting people but they're not
supposed to recruit. And then the person who's in charge
of investigating is one of the coaches. So starts to
the parents ruining what it's supposed to be just kids
having fun playing baseball and softball.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Absolutely, yeah, no, no place for that. All right, Let's
move on to what's going on in Major League baseball
minor league baseball. Some injury notes here. Felix Batista, who
has been on the aisle for a while now at
shoulder surgery. I think it was a torn labram. He
will be out for at least the next twelve months.
That's a huge hit. He was a Tommy John guy
a couple of years ago, I believe, and he had
(07:02):
a little bit of health in between, and now he's
out for another full season. Tough blow for him, tough
blow for the Orioles. One signing, Nate Lowe, who was
recently released by the Nationals, signed with the Red Sox
to fill in their first base vacancy that they have
for the rest of the season. And then a few
(07:23):
other injuries here. Zach Wheeler. Kind of a scary one,
a blood clot in his right shoulder area. We'll get
you guys to comment on this one here, because this
could be careers that threatening, couldn't it.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Trevor, Yeah, that's a scary one there was. I haven't
seen it since the news when it came out, but
it said it was in the upper extremities near his shoulder.
So it's you hope the best for him. Obviously, he
was at the top of his game. He's having a
really good year. But beyond that, just this is his
(07:57):
career and you don't want anybody to be hurt, a
specially something that can really threaten their career. He's one
of the best pitchers in the game, and it's just
it's hard to come up with anything other than this
could be really really bad. Like the information that comes out,
you hope we get good news pretty soon about it,
(08:18):
but it's not a good injury.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Any comments.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I think this is incredibly scary.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
I think they've almost more or less said that this
is like they haven't outward leased at it yet, but
every thing that they're hinting at is that this could
be the end of a season. And this is someone
who's already talked about, you know, his baseball career is
not much longer. Does expedite a potential retirement because this
is an incredibly scary injury. This is not just your
Tommy John where you can get you know, you get
(08:48):
fixed and everything and it's not it might not have
any long term repercussions. This is a very serious issue,
so I don't I don't know what to I'm not
used to being so serious, but I really hope that
for Zack Wheeler and his loved ones that he everything
has worked out.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Line.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
I believe yet, sir, I think I believe he got
it fixed, got taken out.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, I'm not sure about that, but yeah, very everything
I heard was it could have been the end of
the season and possibly his career. That hurts the Phillies
in a big way too. He's their ace, obviously, and
when you lose your ace, it really hurts you for
a playoff run. So yeah, thoughts and prayers to Zach
Wheeler and his family for sure. A few other picture
(09:28):
injuries here. Chase Burns has a flexer strain. Michael King,
who just came back one start in left knee inflammation
back on the il. Josh Hater has a left shoulder
strain as well. These are these are three teams that
are looking at playoff aspirations. Guys, what would you say
is the biggest loss of these at these three recent
(09:50):
will start with you.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
I would definitely say that the Josh Hater thing is
pretty pretty serious. I mean, the the Padres are going
to get along without Michael King. He does help them
in the postseason, but Josh Hater, they you know, we've seen,
you know, they faltered a little bit towards the end
of the games, and Josh Hater was kind of the
guy who closed things down and finished out games for them.
So I think the Josh hateren one is incredibly damning
(10:15):
for a team that is fighting for his playoff. I
don't know, they're fighting for the playoff of life per se,
definitely fighting for theirs for the postseason. With the Seattle
Marriages getting red hot try.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Did you see that the same way? Or you picking
one of the other starting pitchers there?
Speaker 1 (10:29):
No, I do.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
I think the Hater one is probably the biggest, especially
because it is one the first time that he has
been on the injured list in his major league career.
He had his about with injuries in the minors, but
since you know, getting to the big leagues, he hasn't
hit the injured list, and this could be a big one.
I believe I start was a shoulder capsule injury and
(10:50):
that was what Brandon Woodruff had and he was out
for almost two years. I think JP Sears is the
other pitcher who had it, and so for pictures, this
could be a long absence. I mean they that's going
to be the rest of season. This could be rest
of next season also, and that could be a really
huge hit for the Astros in the back end of
their bullpen. They may need to be seeking bullpen help
this offseason.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Is this Brian Obray's job now? At this point would
you say or is there anybody else that could step.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
In Brian Brady's job? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Maybe maybe Brian King gets a few looks. I don't
know how he's been lately. I know he started off
really well, but probably Obray who gets the bulk of looks.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I would imagine awesome.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Some hitters on the shelf now, Kyle Stowers left oblique,
Max Munsey right o'bleak, Matt Chapman, Matt Chapman right hand inflammation.
Tyler Stevenson just broke his thumb yesterday. I believe Jake Berger,
who just came back is back on the ale again.
Is the wrist sprain a Doulas Garcia left ankle. Texas
can't stay healthy as a team, and Brendan Donovan has
(11:55):
a left groin strain. Anybody that really stand out in
this group here that you want to mention real quick.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Trevor, Yeah, the Kyle Stowers injury is unfortunate, and obviously
it's unfortunate when everybody, anyone gets injured.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
That's not what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
But he's just in the middle of having a really
good breakout year that no one saw coming, and so
having an injury kind of halt that is you just
don't want to see it. He's been a lot better
than I think anyone anticipated, making Orioles fans upset that
they traded him. I'm sure, so that one kind of
hurts because he's been a good part of that Marlin's lineup.
(12:32):
Who needs good parts to their lineup?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
For you sending anybody here you want to comment on
Kyle Stower's deffin in the big one.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
This really sucks his breakout campaign. What's almost over? And
then yeah, like you mentioned with the Rangers, they just
can't stay healthy. Jake Berger has had a season to
forget after me thinking that that was one of the
smartest moves that anybody made considering what they gave up
for him a dollas Garcia just that really, you know,
none of the just had a lot of life left
(13:01):
into them. But I think this sort of like tanks
their season and now though maybe you know, maybe they
start to loosen games on purpose to maybe increase lottery odds.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Some players that are on their way back on rehab
assignments Jacob Wilson, Jack Kaglione, Rehese Hoskins, Roki Sasaki, and Lancepercolors.
Of this group of five players, who makes the biggest
impact in fantasy the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Trevor Man.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
I really want to say, Roki Sasaki, It's not going
to happen. His fastball still has not been good in
his rehab outings, and that's kind of the issue. When
he was healthy to begin the year, with all the hype,
he just wanted him to be good.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I think biggest.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Impact is probably Jacob Wilson. He just he's had his
really good years. He's entered himself into these conversations of
top one hundred dynasty playered probably depending on format, but
he hits the ball so well. He has some power,
more power than we thought he was going to have
a playing in that triple A park that they're playing
(14:02):
in right now. But it just is he was doing
a lot better across the board than we figured he would,
I think as a consensus, at least a lot better
than I thought he would personally. So he probably makes
the most impact, But if rookie Ssaki can figure something out,
it might be him.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Rees do you agree with Wilson or do you think
maybe CAGs or Reys Hoskins might be the best fantasy
option down down the road here.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
I think it's probably Wilson, but I'm gonna say Jagkags.
As much as I am worried about the hit tool,
he could go on in all time, like you know,
two or three week heater and maybe win some people
with some fantasy championships, much akin to when Gary Sanchez
came up. Oh how long ago was that? That was
the Michael former Rookie of the Year, Zach Britton was
in contention for being the AlSi Young shows you how
(14:48):
weird that season was. Jack has the sort of power
that he can put together a good two to three
weeks and win people some fantasy championships. So I'm gonna say, well,
I think Jacobilson is a safer choice. I think jack
Tags is a higher upside option, all right.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
And some players activated off the il Ronald Kunya, Alec Bohm,
Dylan Cruz, Avan Carter, George Springer the hitters, and then
Hunter Green, Aaron Nola and Jacob Mazerowski who pitched today
on Wednesday. Obviously, Akunya is the best of this group here,
and maybe Hunter Green as the pitchers. But beyond those two,
(15:25):
who would you be targeting as somebody you would want
on your rosters, healthy and active down the stretch.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
I'm gonna go with Jacob Mizerowski.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
He has the upside to be one of the best
pitchers in baseball, especially fantasy wise, because he gets it
done strikeouts, and he's done a decent job of limiting
the command or limiting limiting the walks. So Jakob Mizirawski
is probably, outside of Ronal Cuney Jr. And Hunter Green,
the guy that would want the.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Most what a baby Trucker.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Well, at the risk of just constantly agreeing with Reese
and making this a boring podcast, Jacob Mizowski was the
way I was going. I will forever be haunted by
the fact that I turned down a trade at the
beginning of the year with Miserowski in it because I
didn't trust his command. But for the sake of saying
something else, why don't why don't we go with Dylan Cruz.
(16:16):
He struggled, he got hurt, he was out a long time.
But this is Dylan Cruz, like he was the guy
or one of the guys heading into the year, and
now that he's healthy, he's come back and he's been
hitting pretty well. You know, he has a hit over
his last three games at the time we're recording this
with you know, a few RBIs to go along with that.
He should have some power, he should be able to steal.
(16:38):
So if I can't say Jacob Miserowski, I will say
Dylan Cruz. I think he's he's gonna he might have
a solid run down the stretch out if he's healthy.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Awesome. A lot of prospect movement guys these last few weeks,
some promotions to the major leagues, Samuel Basaio and Dylan
Beaver's up with the o orioles owhen case he gets
the call for the Cubs. Finally, after playing almost two
seasons in Triple A, Nolan mcclan called up with the
Mets had a very good first start. Parker Messick pitch
(17:06):
today on Wednesday and looked excellent. Bobba Chandler got called
up today, but it sounds like he's going to be
out of the bullpen for the rest of the year.
Maximo Acosta, Nathan Church and Bob Seymour and an awesome
story getting called up by the Rays. Who do you
want to talk about? Reeset of this group?
Speaker 4 (17:25):
So I want to talk about Nolan McLain in his
fantastic major league debut. Probably just like strikeouts, four walks
kind of Nolan McLain experience. It is high end stuff.
The sweeper is discussing, the slider's good, the cutter's good,
the festival is really good as well. And also I
just want to touch on Bobby Seymour. Bob Seymour the
first Bob in fifteen years, I believe, which is kind
(17:45):
of crazy. He hit a home run today and it
was not a cheapy by any means. And that's what
that guy provides, supervise, a lot of power. I think
there's a little bit of undersold hit tool there as well.
I'm very excited to see how he goes with this
late little stint of coffee with these. I hope it
just gets a chance to write it the season with
the Rays, but you never know. With them, they call
up Tristan Peters and then send him down for Everson Pereira,
(18:08):
so they basically traded fourth outfielders archetypes. So you know,
really never really know what those pesky Rays. But I
just think Bob Seymour, I believe he was an undrafted
guy too from Wake Forrest. He's a he's a heftier fellow,
but I'm I'm very happy that he got the call
up to the major leagues and hit a home run.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Awesome, Trevor, who do you want to speak about it
in this group?
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Parker Messick for sure's I've made the joke a bunch
and I made it and our you know, to you
guys in our staff chat. But it's it's Joey Cantillo.
They send Joey Cantio down to pull up a different version,
and to be fair, a slightly better version of Joey Cantillo,
A soft tossing lefty with a good change up and
maybe we'll walk a lot of guys, maybe won't, but
(18:48):
we'll get his strikeouts. I was big on Messi coming
into the year because he could get so many strikeouts.
The more I watched, the more I was just like,
they have this already at the big league level. So
he had a really good out in his debut. That's
awesome to see. I hope he continues that on I
just I'm wondering if he just kind of settles more
into what Joey Cantillo has done as a starter. Cantillo's
(19:10):
great as a reliever. Starting spent a little more questionable. Also,
the maximum will costa one was just kind of interesting
because he was not really doing that well in Triple
A before they called him up. He came over from
the Rangers in the offseason and you know, still young
and definitely interesting, got some speed to him, had some
power to him. He did have twenty eight home runs
(19:31):
and urb' sorry, twelve home runs and twenty eight stolen
bases in Triple A. Just didn't hit a whole lot,
So I'm interested to see how it goes for him.
So far, he's hitless and that's not great, but it's
been less than ten at bats at this point, so
we'll see.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
We will see. I'll just make a couple of comments here.
Bubba Chandler, who was who looked like the best, one
of the best pitchers in the planet early in the season,
just absolutely dominating, has struggled in June and July. As
I mentioned, he will be pitching out of the bullpen.
He's really not had any adversity in his professional career.
He's such an athlete and he's able to overcome a
(20:07):
lot of things, and I think it might be good
for him to have gone through this and kind of
worked through these challenges, and I'm hoping he'll be better
on the other side of this and maybe getting a
little taste of major League baseball and seeing what it's
about and how his stuff plays in the majors, because
it's going to play. His fastball is absolutely elite. I
think it'll be good for him in the long run.
(20:28):
So it has been ugly recently, but hopefully this will
kind of get him on the right path here and
then oh in case. He obviously got to talk about
my Canadian boy hit his first home run the other day.
He just talking to him at the Futures game this year.
He is incredibly confident in his ability. He knows what
he's doing out there. He knows his weaknesses and his strengths,
(20:51):
and I just I think he's going to be successful
because he knows himself very very well. He's very aware,
and he's getting a chance to play now with Kyle
Tucker kind of struggling right now, so we'll see, we'll
see where it goes. And the Cubs are right and
think of it right now. So I just want to
come in on an own casey a couple of emotions
(21:12):
Otto Kemp and jolib berfdo sent down UH Minor league
notes here. So we had a couple of pictures shut
down and reads. We were talking about this before we
hit the record button. This is where we kind of
see the pictures shut down where they're hitting their their
innings limits and teams are just gonna kind of resting
for the rest of the year and then going to
(21:33):
the off season mode. So Connor Preli is one with
the twins and Astebamahia you mentioned were shut down today
for the rest of the year, So maybe talk about
what that is like for a team, Why the teams
do this, what's the what's the idea behind it, and
what we're going to look see in the next few weeks.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
Here, So teams are going to start shutting guys down,
and that's going to cause some people to wonder if
they're injured.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
For the most part, they're not going to be.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
For guy that Sebonhia, they probably didn't expect him to
make it to single A at this point in the season.
He's probably one of the crazier arms. The stuff's pretty crazy.
I was just pulling out some of his data for
report that I was writing. But yeah, especially these younger
guys and guys like Connor prelib who have had injuries
in the past, you shut him down early, allow him
to rest recuperate, and then they get ready to go
(22:23):
for fall instructional stuff. Whether that's Connor Prelip's probably is
a candidate to maybe go play in the Arizona Fall League,
he is not.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
He'll probably go pitch in in your.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Squat scrimmages and very controlled environments and pitch bullpens during instructs.
So we're gonna start seeing so especially some of the
younger guys start to get shut down, and you know,
then some of the older guys who have had some
injury concerns I think are also going to follow suit.
And organizations, which is in the beginning of the season,
they'll be like, hey, we want to we're hoping to
get like eighty innings from you this year, and when
(22:53):
you get to the eighty innings, you're going to be
shut down. It's nothing that you've done. It's a plan
that they've had. They've had, you know, they work with
them throughout those eighty innings because My League Baseball is
essentially just the best way to view it is, well,
the games do matter. They is it is development time
and practice at the end of the day. So they
want to have those eighty innings of high stress practice
more or less for these guys to figure out what
(23:14):
they're what to work on and what they've what they
what the team specific instructions have been. So we're gonna
start seeing guys they hit all the benchmarks and and
then teams are just gonna be like, there's no need to,
you know, put any additional stress on the arm.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Could he, in theory handle another start or two. I
believe their.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Season ends not this weekend, but next weekend he could.
He'll probably be fine, but it's better to be cautious,
especially with a high One of the more high off
pane arms that we've seen coming from the complex in
a while.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
And obviously there's not a lot we don't have all
the information. With these organizations, they have plans in place
for all these pitchers and they ride them up.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Through the year.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Like with Prelip, it's hard to understand what they're doing
here because last year you pitch twenty three innings, he's
up to sixty five this year. That's I mean generally
see them go up in that that sort of rate.
But maybe he is a candidate over the Arizona Fall
League throw some more innings. He's been really short spurts.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Though, So yeah, he's he's someone who's gonna have to
be added at the forty man, so maybe they want
to see him in more controlled environments. I think this
guy's ultimately reliever, and Connor pielp could be a really
nasty reliever.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
They basically in development it was a reliever.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Ever since, he hasn't been able to consistently stay healthy,
which is unfortunate for him because the stuff is some
of the best in baseball when healthy. So yeah, I
think I think that with guys like Prelift, they want
to get a chance to say what they have before.
They have to make a full on decision, and the
Arizona folly will be part of that decision. I'd imagine
that Connor Pele I'd almost be shocked if he did
get side at this point.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Talking about the movement in the my leagues. Now, so
we mentioned Prelip was sent to Triple A for that
one start and then shut down. Tate Keener sent to
Triple A as well, Trey Savage and Matthew Hetzel some
notable names sent to Triple A. Sent to Double A
obviously two of the biggest prospects in the game, Leo
Devrees and Connor Griffin. Michael and Alex Klemy also sent
(25:02):
to Double A to HII Merrick Houston already getting a
promotion by the Twins to HYA and Felon Celliston also
moving up to High A and I think it hit
a home run in this first game, I'm pretty sure.
And then to Single A Eli Willitts will get some
Let's get some run here at the end of the season.
Corporen Dickerson, Nick Becker takes south of seeing Brendan Summerhill
(25:25):
and Nike Irish a bunch of college guys College hitters
sent to single A as well. Do you guys want
to come in on any of these players here, maybe
Debreeze Griffin or anybody else, Trevor.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
You know, imagine being a fan of the Everett AquaSox
starting the year you have Michael Arroyo and lazarro Montes
and Colt Emerson and now they're all in double A.
So I think he almost had to give them something.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
No, i'mkadding.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
They promoted everybody up though, and it's good to see
them continuing that along the chain and seeing Celestin get
a chance at a higher level. Obviously, it's super exciting
to see Devaries and Connor Griffin get that promotion as well.
They're really good. There's not a whole lot to say
about those two. I do want to say.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Alex Klemy.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
I know that he's had his command issues. I've been
a huge fan of Alex Klemy because he has such
huge stuff, and I think that's the guy that I
really want to pull out here. It doesn't work often
when they have that command issue. I shouldn't say often,
but it it can be really scary and throwing strikes
is something that he's battled with this year. If you
look at his numbers, you can see he's been battling
(26:36):
with walks and everything, but his stuff is so big,
and I think that this is a positive sign from
the organization that they believe this is going to work
out and he's going to become an arm for them
because he definitely has the talent if he can throw
the strikes.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Reset thoughts on this group here, maybe a comment on
Alex Klemmy as well.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Alex Klemy, I believe in this stuff. I think even
with where I ranked him in our top one hundred,
which would be coming out in the coming days or so,
even as a reliever, which is where a hedged En has,
he could be absolutely disgusting. He could be one of
the best relievers in baseball. And yeah, LDV and Connor Griffin,
(27:17):
they're really good. They're both top ten prospects. Connor Griffin's
obviously he's gonna be an A one prospect. The guy
I'm most excited to talk about is Mary Houston. I
have been fascinated with what he did. I didn't really
care for him pre draft, and I dug into him
a little bit more, you know, as you have more
time to look into these guys. I think there's some
power here that hasn't been tapped into yet. It's a
good defender at shortstop. It kind of fits all the
(27:38):
benchmarks that I look for in a player. It's kind
of like a Dansby Swanson esque profile with a little
bit upside for more so if he can definitely continue
what he's doing. The Twins might have knocked it out
of the park, but back in my first round picks
last year, Klen's culpepper was fantastic, and just to round
things out really quickly, I love that the Orioles sent
(27:59):
a lot like Irish Caden Bodine all straight to single
A and they've been hitting well, you know, kind of
that's what you expect from high profile college guys.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
It's great to see these guys and we can watch
them on TV now in professional settings. So really really
good stuff. Shifting gears to what's going on Prospects Live. Obviously,
this podcast is about our Top fifteen hundred release, which
released this week. Reese has already talked about the Top
one hundred being released in a couple of days time.
(28:32):
Maybe by the time this podcast is out. I released
a live Looks episode article here in Little Rock. A
bunch of Prospects are playing here right now. All those
guys from High AI that Trevor was talking about are
now here, so super exciting for me. And Smott has
been working hard behind the scenes with all of his
(28:54):
tools we have. We're now player profiles on our website
which we have never had before, so it's really really
exciting with savant bars and sliders, and he's now working
on a scouting report app as well, So there's lots
of great tools coming. For just the low price of
five dollars a month, you can get a lot of
(29:15):
this stuff, and ten dollars will get you pretty much everything,
So please consider subscribing to Prospects Live. We are coming
out with great stuff all the time. Okay, guys, we're
going to take a quick break here and we're going
to come back on the other side and talk about
our Dynasty update and I'll get your thoughts on some
movers and shakers in our Dynasty list here, so we'll
(29:37):
be right back after these messages. All right, we are back.
I am your host, Greg hu Camp. I am with
Trevor Houth and Louise White, and we are discussing the
prospects live Dynasty updates for August of twenty twenty five. Guys,
let's just get right into it here. Our top ten
is kind of a who's who of fantasy baseball. There
(29:59):
are studs in this list. We start off with Shohei Otani,
who's back on the mound again, so he's hitting and pitching.
This guy is the nl MVP pretty much unanimously. Aaron
Judge is number two, pretty much the AL MVP. Bobby
Wit juniors three one Photo four, Rona Lacunia, five, James
(30:21):
Wood is number six, Elie del Lacruz, number seven, number
eight is Port McCarroll. Number nine is Julio Rodriguez. Number
ten is Fernando Tatist Junior. Guys, I guess the question
here is can anyone unseat show he Tani as a
lot as he's healthy.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
No, especially in a Daily Moves league.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
You get a chance to have a picture, You get
your picture, and you also have a chance to have
one of the game's more prolific power backs. I think
he's kind of a fantasy cheek code at this point.
He's like Taysom Hill in Fantasy football, where you can
put him at quarterback and he gets tight end stats,
or so you can put him at tight end he gets.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Quarter back stats.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Charlot Tony kind of breaks the mold, especially if you're
in a daily league. If you're in a weekly league,
I guess there's a little bit more pressure put on you,
you know, a little bit more time to put into it.
But he's still probably one, or probably he might bump
down to two just because you know, you might want
to deal with that headache all the time. But yeah,
I think that he I don't think anybody's close to him.
(31:21):
I think he's the best fantasy baseball player. I think
he is the best real life baseball player. And I
couldn't be you know, I love chohotni which I had
more fantasy leagues.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Trevick, you're nodding the entire Tony was talking.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Yeah, Well what am I going to add? I mean, yeah,
he's sorry, good guy, what are you supposed to do?
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Let's move down to us a little bit. Then. Aaron
Judge is number two, Bobby Wits number three one, so
it was number four. Ronald lekun here is number five.
At certain points in the last few years, a lot
of these guys have all been in that number one spot,
maybe when show Heyatt was injured. What are we looking
at down the stretch here? Who would you want to
pick out of those top those two through five to
(32:04):
have on your roster as we finish out twenty twenty five.
We'll start with you, Trevor.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Bobby Wood Junior.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
I have an irrational attachment to Bobby Wood Junior because
there was that whole his whole prospect class that year
before he came up, or the year the offseason before
he came up. I was like, this, dude's the best
prospect in baseball, and I had him number one. I
was like this, he's just so good, he could do
so many things. So it may not be the right answer.
I do lose in Fantasy Baseball a lot, which is
(32:33):
hilarious that you invited me on a Fantasy baseball podcast,
But it's got to be Bobby Wit for me.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Hands down, we three were you.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Drawn first overall in your draft? Of these four players,
I'll probably go one.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
So though I think he started to heat up a
little bit, he's been fantastic. You know, he's probably what
the safest option of anybody on the board. He's just
gonna have like a well above average OVP.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
There's going to be power.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
You can always argue that he doesn't actually hit for
as much much power as he probably could, so there's
still some untapped upside and just to go a little
bit of a different direction the one I would want
kind of least, there's probably Aaron Judge right now. Not
that I do worry about this UCL injury. I think
that I wonder if there's going to be any lingering effects.
I think he recently hit a home run, so it
(33:17):
makes me look stupid, which happens all the time, often
wrong seldom, and doubt about it. So yeah, I think
I think once that is the guy that I would want,
just for the relatives upside and the safety that he
can provide.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yeah, I think with Judge and also with a Kunya too,
there's some there's some risk health risk there for sure,
for both of them. Acunya just seems to come back
from off the injury and just hit the ground running
all the time. He just doesn't seem to slump. So
when he's on the field, he's performing, but he's often
not on the field, so that's the difficulty with him.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
It's when you need Ozzy Albi's too. If you have
both of them, you're going to get some good production.
Because I don't know what the stat is, but when
they're on the field together, Ozzie, obvious is much better
than when they're not on the field together.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
Sight note on Ozzie Alby's. You know he's a big
fish guy. He has like a massive, massive fish tanks.
I only know this because I was on TikTok recently
and Ozzie Alby's and his fish tank came up. So
maybe maybe he needs the power of fish and he
needs the power of mcunya because when he doesn't have
one of those power friendship as well.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
That's the Brewers and the Pocket Pancakes.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
This, this is the analysis you can only get on
a Prospect Live Dynasty podcast with Trap.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
I'm doing my research. I'm doing my research. I'm going
on the TikTok. I'm looking up these players. No one's
more research than me.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
That's why we call him Reese. Search that.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Yeah, there's another nickname for you, Reese.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Yeah. Right there we go. Add to the mini you
can't escape it.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Okay, let's finish out the bottom part of this top
ten here with Wood Dela Cruz Carrol. Let's talk about
Court McCarroll. Cor McCarrol is a different player this year
than he was last year and even the year before.
He has transferred himself into a power hitter. He is,
and he's not the speed demon that he was when
he stole seventy bases. We didn't maybe expect him ever
(35:02):
to do that again, maybe we did. But where do
we value Corman Carroll? Is he at the number eight guy?
Is he out of the top ten? Is he should
be in the top five? Like where do you see
Cortman Carroll moving forward? Recent start with you?
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Oh, that's such a good question.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I think that you guys, probably, you guys probably did
did a really good job of ranking him eight because
I feel like there's I love to use tears when
I do something right after the I would call it
like the high upside tier of James Wood and Ellie
Day La Cruz Corman Carroll's will be the next guy
I would want, because when you roster Julio Rodriguez, you
have to realize that going into it, the first couple
(35:37):
of months you're getting little production. But when he does
start to heat up, he's you know, Julio Rodriguez, the
guy who we all know and love. So I think
Corman Carroll is probably appropriately ranked at eight. I don't
think I would move him. I think that's kind of
the best spot for him, even with the change in
the profile.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Trevor, what do you think about Carroll and kind of
the way he's changed his game a little bit?
Speaker 5 (35:58):
Yeah, I eight with like raise eight, it's probably good.
It's probably is the place he should be.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
It's just I don't know.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
The question is do you think it's more helpful to
your lineup for him to be twenty two and thirty
five or you know, twenty seven and seventeen where he's
at now, Like, do the extra steals come and help
you because he's still getting you twenty plus home runs?
Or does him being more of a power hitter help you.
I guess you're still getting some speed, But I mostly
(36:27):
think in terms of Rodo because that's those are the
leagues that I'm in. So I'm thinking I want a
guy who's going to get me maximum stolen bases along
with some power just to help me at the top
of each category. So I think that would be the
question for me when I rank him is is he
more valuable getting more steals or is he more valuable
hitting more home runs? But eight is probably a good
(36:48):
ranking for him. He clearly is one of the top
ten players in the game.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, I met spoke when I said seventy steals, he's
still fifty four and twenty twenty three, So that season
he hit two eighty five with a three sixty TWOBP.
Last year I had a three twenty two OBP. This
year has a three twenty seven OBP. So he's clearly
been selling out for power just a little bit and triples.
To guys, if you're in a triples league, this is
the guy to get, right. He's got ten in twenty
(37:14):
twenty three, fourteen last year and fourteen this year already.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
So is that how you do thrown Shohio Tani that
triples in.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Yeah, that's the only way you could really beat him
is to go with the triples leagues. So corner of
the market and Cortman Carroll and the triples leagues. We'll
move on to guys to pictures. I've got our top
five pitchers here, So here's the debate here, Trek Scoogle
and Paul Skins. Number fifteen and number sixteen on our list.
Garrett Krochet is number seventeen on our list, and maybe
(37:43):
we can loop him in as well. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is
twenty one and Hunter Brown is number twenty two are
number five ranked starting pitchers. So let's talk about that
group of two at the top. And if you want
to bring Crochet into the conversation you can as well.
But Googler Schemes, who are who are you for? Reese?
Speaker 3 (38:02):
I feel like this is where I'm gonna go full Homer.
I'm Terrek School. He's the best pitcher on the face
of the planet.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
He's a little bit older than Poul Schemes, but I
mean we're talking about one of the most durable starters
in baseball. Feel like every time he goes out there
Turk School by the way, when he pitches.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
It is I stop what I'm doing.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
I'm gonna be set, I'm gonna be seated, and I'm
gonna watch Terrey School pitch. It feels like every every
game it's six to seven innings, nine to ten strikeouts.
You just know what you're getting. The upside's still really crazy.
He could strike out thirteen he's never gonna be a
guy probably throws a perfect game or anything like that.
This conversation I have with my dad all the time.
He's like, do you think he would ever throw one?
(38:38):
I'm like, no, because he throws too many strikes. But
you know, the whip's not gonna get out of control.
He's probably like the games from here, like not walking guy.
They're talking about a guy who walks less than two
batters per nine innings. You know, he plays in a
good ballpark that suppresses any sort of power. Not that
Pittsburgh is also Pittsburgh's a fantastic place to pitch as well.
I'm gonna go Urk School is kind of my god, Like,
(38:59):
you know, he's also wins guy. He has eleven wins
on the season. He's probably gonna end up with like,
you know, six or seven more starts. We're talking about
fifteen wins, which you know, Paul Skeins isn't gonna get
a lot of wins on his own.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
He's gonna need a lot of luck.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
So Derek School is kind of the guy I don't
think Gerrik Crochet is in this conversation. He's definitely like
we're talking about a good tier of sp ones that
if you can build your team around, that's you're doing
really well.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
You're just starting off with so the cream of the
crop with pitchers.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
I was wondering where we're gonna get We were going
to get our Tigers content here. So Trevor, another Tigers fan,
is schooble over schemes.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Well, first of all, I assume that Rees Alson would
be in this conversation if he wasn't hurt big results
and guy anyway, it's absolutely schooble in my mind, definitely
a Homer pick.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
I was. I was at America two weeks ago.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
When he pitched against the Angels and it wasn't even
a good outing technically from Trek's schoogle, but he was
really good through three innings and you saw Trek scoogle,
and I just I don't know how anyone beats that.
I know Skeens has amazing stuff, really fun stuff, but
it's got to be schooble.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Especially in Dynasty.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
As Reese mentioned, he plays on a better team, He's
going to be more apt to get wins.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
He doesn't walk. Guys like it.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
Just overall, I feel like he does more for you
than Skeens does by just just a little bit, just
a little smidge.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Yeah, I'm also a Scooble over schemes guy. It's close
for sure, But if I were to pick one pitcher
to start my Dynasty staff, it would be Schooble. Okay, guys,
let's talk about a couple of players. We'll do one
hitter on one pitcher that have jumped into our top
one hundred. Nick Kurtz, the world beater, unbelievable start to
his career. He is number nineteen on our Dynasty list.
(40:46):
He moved up sixty spots from our June update. What
more can we say about Nick Kurtzing.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
There's nothing you can say about him. He's the best.
Well where did he rank among first base?
Speaker 2 (40:59):
But I assume he is number one right now.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
He is one with a bullet man, that power that
he has. He plays in a ballpark that like, And
the crazy thing is, like we're talking about dynasy list, right.
He's going from Sacramento, which is a really good place
to hit for power. He's going to go to Vegas,
and Vegas is just going to be playing baseball on
the freaking moon. If you ever tune into minor League,
Baseball TV or anything like that. You can see some
(41:23):
of those Vegas Aviator games. They get some pretty high
scoring because the environment plus the Aviator pitching isn't very good.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
But yeah, I think the Kurts.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Is he's interesting because he doesn't have any speed, right.
Could you make the argument that at some point this
offseason maybe he's the top ten guy going forward just
because he provides that elite power. You could hit fifty
to sixty home runs, like we're talking about the games,
one of the game's premier power hitters. He has a
good approach, he has everything that you sort of want,
and he hit the ground running. And I don't know,
(41:52):
I feel like I can't say enough nice things about
Nick Kurts.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Yeah, Trevor, can you add anything to that?
Speaker 5 (41:59):
I just want to pour one out. For my first
year player drafts. I picked third in multiple of them,
and I had two guys in consideration for each league,
and in none of the leagues was Nick Kurtz, the
guy that I thought I was going to take third overall,
And that would have been just the best option that
I could have made, and I didn't do it.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Instead, I took JJ.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
Weatherholt or Chase Burns, which neither are bad by any
means or looked bad so far, but you could have
had Nick Kurtz.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
Yeah, he's doing it at the major league level, and
he's making it look easy. Like that game he had
in Houston. He was just flicking balls over the leftfield
fence in the Crawford boxes. It's just like he made
it look so easy in that game and is not
that easy. It's just unreal.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
Could he be a perennial three hundred average, four hundred
OBP guy, five hundred slugg.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
I really do think that he could be.
Speaker 4 (42:51):
I mean, I know we're doing a fantasy baseball podcast,
but he has three point eight war and he's only
played in eighty five games.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Is just all that with no speed with and playing
forst base.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
Yeah, playing first base, so he gets Dingdon, he gets
Dingdon War. He has one hundred and sixty one WRC
BLUs sports for those that don't know, sixty one percent
better than league average.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
Is a hitter. He is one of the games premier hitters.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
He's kind of run away with the American League Rookie
of the Year, which it sucks for me because I
was really telling Jacob Wilson, who's going to probably finish
second or third. But yeah, I think that this is
one of the games from your power bats. And honestly,
there's nothing that could stop him outside of injury, which
you can't really project predict.
Speaker 5 (43:31):
And if I'm not mistaken, he didn't get off to
the greatest start. I mean no, he was slow to start.
So this is all picked up, and this is all
very recent. He had his adjustment period and now we're
seeing what Kurts can be and it's it's astounding.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
It's amazing, all right. The pitcher that moved up the
most within our top one hundred was Christopher Sanchez's the Phillies,
who's now their ace essentially with Wheeler on the shelf now.
He moved up thirty seven spots to number forty eight overall.
What makes Christopher Sanchez such a tough picture to face.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
Trevor, I, you know, I wish I could tell you
the answer. I have not, honestly watched a whole lot
of Christopher Sanchez, but he has been throwing strikes. He's
not walking a lot of guys. And what's really ticked
up this year is his strikeouts, and that's kind of
where that jump began. You saw last year. I think
(44:30):
some signs that he was going to be taking a
step forward, and I know that I had him in
a couple of leagues, had a few guys interested, and
actually traded him because I thought, oh, well, I can
do better, you know, try to retool some stuff. And
he's taken a jump forward that I really just didn't
see coming honestly.
Speaker 2 (44:46):
Reas anything that on Christopher Sanchez, Yeah, he stopped throwing
his slider as much, which has been good for him.
Speaker 4 (44:53):
He's dialed down to about sixteen percent, and that's really
a lot of everything else to play up because his
sinker and his change up are elite offerings because the
way in which they interact with each other.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
He's been fantastic.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
He's been Honestly, he's gonna have a lot more pressure
put on now that he's going to be the Phillies
ace going forward. Saren Nola's not had the best season,
but Christopher Sanchez has kind of rounded out into being
a top twelve pitcher in baseball, and I believe he's
very firmly in the nl CY Young of race, although
I think it should probably be what schemes It's probably
the runaway favorite we might run, we might have with
(45:26):
a Wheeler and Wheeler's unfortunate injury. I fel like Skemes
as candidacy gets stronger and stronger.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Yeah, I made a very very bad trade in the
off season this before this year started with Christopher Sanchez,
and I got I got Jake McCarthy in return. I did.
I did not think that Christopher Chance Sanchez had another level,
and he certainly had multiple levels above what I thought
he had. So big mistake by myself. All Right, some
(45:56):
big movers outside of our top one hundred. The first
one is just create is he that we're seeing this
happening before I very eyes? But Jacob Barci is now
ranked one seventy eight on our list. He moved up
nine hundred and forty eight spots. Let's let's just stop
right there. Is this for real? Is Jacob Barci? Like?
Is he this guy? What he's doing right now? Reith?
Speaker 4 (46:21):
I hope so for the Marlins, because I've been enjoying
their little run. I mean, you know, it's there's there's
the ability that he's a good defensive center fielder. Uh,
he's just he's walking quite a bit too, which allows
for some sort of safety. I don't think he's ever
going to be a three hundred, four hundred, seven hundred
guy for long term, but we're gonna be talking about
(46:41):
a really really good, you know, above average major leaguer
with some power some speed plays all the time because
there's no reason not to play him and just be
a really really good fantasy contributor. Maybe like, oh, on
a good team, he's your outfield too, you know. I
guess you could do roster constructions where he's your outfield one.
I wouldn't feel as comfortable with it. But he's got
(47:03):
stolen bases, Like we're talking about a guy who in
twenty twenty four stole fifty one basis, So there's more
speed here as well. So yeah, I think Jacob Marcy's
kind of showing himself to be a top two hundred
Dynasty asset.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Do you guys have a savant page open? This is ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
I do not have the Fangrass page because I feel
like if I opened Fangrafts and Savanna at the same time,
like my computer might explode.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
He is in the top ninety five percentile in almost everything.
I have a small sample but with him, it's always
been about like exit velocities. He's never really had had
the high end X velocities. He's got a fifteen percent
barrel rate right now. His bat speed is the only
thing that he's not really proficient at. Everything else is
(47:46):
elite right now, and he's up to seventy five plate appearances.
What a start this is. This is really really impressive
and good for him and good for the Marlins because
the Marlins are not no one for doing things like
this at all.
Speaker 5 (48:03):
I can echo what you guys are saying, but also
I could not be more passionate about how confusing Jacob
Marcy is. I like, yes, he's done really well this year.
He had he was doing really well right before his
call up. This is a guy who hit like sub
two hundred and double a last year in four hundred
(48:23):
played appearances. This is the guy who hit like one
ninety eight I think over the course of June or no,
I'm sorry early in the season, so may it just
I don't. The level of extremes that he has played
at over the last two years is something that is
just so scary to me. And I know batting average
(48:44):
is in everything. There's other things that he can do,
but when you're hitting two hundred or sub two hundred,
it's notable. And all of a sudden he just clicks
and turns it on and he is this mega dude.
It just seems like there's either super productive or super unproductive,
and I just where is the middle and is the
(49:05):
middle what he settles into or is he just going
to be this feast or famine type of player.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
So the one thing about his double A time is
that double A ballpark is incredibly hard to hit in.
So I do think that that does shine a little
bit of light into it. Not that I'm disagreeing with
you a lot of trim. I would like my prospects
to not hit eighty in a double A. So just
between the two of us and all all three of
us and the dynasty of podcast listeners, So I prefer
(49:33):
my prospects to hit well. But that the Yeah, yeah,
he's just so there's no middle ground, right, He's peaks
and then he's valleys. There's not even like any sort
of plateau. And he's always been like that. He's like
that as a Padres prospect as well.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
Yeah, and these other two hitters here that have risen
the most. Andrew Vaughn and Mickey Moniaker also guys that
have really fallen off the face of the earth and
refound themselves. Again, do you believe in either of these
two players?
Speaker 4 (50:04):
I don't, but that doesn't necessarily mean I don't buy
Andrew vaugh being the greatest first baseman in baseball. With
the way he's been hitting, maybe he has a pocket
pancakes stored away. It's kind of crazy that how he
was so poor with the White Sox this season that
I think he just recently became a positive win player,
(50:25):
and it's only through the small samplelize. I think he's
running extremely hot, but I mean they might have figured
out some things. I mean, this Brewers organization does a
really good job. He has He's always had the power,
He's always had good swing decisions. I don't know what
they were teaching him in Chicago, but it clearly wasn't working.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
On a certain point.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
I think that relationships hour Mickey Moniac is such a
weird one. I think that he's with Core, He's he's
with Colorado now right, like okay, good. I want to
make sure you know so many players that we got
to keep a track of I feel like Mickey Mooniac
is the perfect guy to fall through the cracks a
little bit. I mean, his his style of game does
play a little bit better. He does have some swing
(51:01):
and contact concerns, so cors does sort of is the
rising tide that lifts all boats in that aspect and
allows his power and speed to play up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Trevor, do you believe in Andrew vaugh and Miking Moniac.
Speaker 5 (51:15):
Just echoing Moniac and Corps. I mean, that's kind of
I think where this is coming from Andrew Vaughan, though.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
I just it's tough being a White Sox fan.
Speaker 5 (51:27):
It's got to be tough because you're watching this dude
who is supposed to be your next middle of the
order star blounder at the big league level, to the
point where, yeah, he's gonna not be on our team anymore.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
We're gonna send him off.
Speaker 5 (51:40):
Milwaukee has been and they throw him in Triple A
for what two weeks?
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Three weeks? He comes up and now he's doing this.
Speaker 5 (51:47):
I've heard the bruise parkt called the humidor before, so
that can be helpful as well in terms of having
success as a hitter. So I don't know if I
buy it, but I will buy that you can expect
a better version of Andrew Vaughn with Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (52:07):
Than you do than you would with the White Sox.
Speaker 5 (52:11):
This is almost like a tryout so he can to
see if he's the first basement next year. I think
he's passing with Flying Colors, but I do think it
will level off and he'll just be a little better
than he was with the White Sox.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
We're going to pick up the pace a little bit
here with the rising pitchers. Out of these three Trevor Rodgers,
Quinn Priester, and Edward Cabrera all moving up over one
hundred and seventy spots each, Which one do you believe
in the most for the rest of the season and
does your answer change for dynasty value beyond this year?
(52:45):
Trevor will go.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
With you first.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Well, Trevor Rodgers has the best first name of any
of them. He's been great rest of season. I think
probably him for sure, just because of how good he's been,
and honestly, maybe even long term. The only guy on
that list that would I think compete in my mind
as Quinn Priester because of the pitching lab that Milwaukee has.
But the only thing is Milwaukee has a pitching lab.
(53:09):
They have all these great pictures, and they have all
these great pictures waiting. They don't have room for Logan
Henderson when he's healthy.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
Like it just there's too.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
Many arms, and so, barring injury, Quinn Priester may fall
through the cracks at some point. So I believe in
the lab. I don't believe in the situation. Edward Carbrera
I think is who Edward Cabrera is. So I think
maybe Trevor Rodgers long term, if he's healthy, dis bounce
back could be real.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Reese, who is your guy for this season? Who's your
guy for long term?
Speaker 4 (53:37):
Edward Carbrera has been pitching pretty well as of reason,
so I'm going to go Edward Cabrera a little bit.
Like the strikeouts have taken a slight take down this year,
which normally would be kind of death on a picture
of his archetype, but the walks have taken a significant
step down. I think we're starting to see Edward Cabrera
sort of step into that what we always thought he
(53:57):
was as a prospect. I'm just a big Edward Cabrera fan.
I think that you know he's the upside to go
six innings ten strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
He will have a couple of blowuboutings.
Speaker 4 (54:07):
The consistency still isn't one hundred percent there, but he's
you know, this looks like it's a breakout season. So
the first time in a while that he's had an
over an extended period that he's had an ERA below
below four. So I believe what Edward Cabrera is doing now,
and I believe what he's doing in the future. I
just hope he doesn't get traded because I do kind
of like this Marlins team, and I wish they kind
(54:28):
of keep it together and maybe who knows, maybe they
invest a little bit in it and you know, the
product's a little bit better. They have some young, exciting guys.
Is Kyle Stowers breakout for real? We'll figure that out
next year.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Awesome? All right, moving on to some followers. You've got
three hitters here. I'll group them together and you can
tell me who you think might bounce back in the future.
Zach Geloff dropped four hundred and thirty spots down to
seven ninety six. Michael Kindfordo dropped three under sixty spots
down at seven thirty four, and Mark Viento has dropped
(54:58):
one hundred and sixties spots down three thirty nine. So
this group here, Trevor, who do you believe in the most?
Speaker 3 (55:06):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (55:06):
Probably Mark Bientos. He has dropped off, but the strikeout
rate has dropped this year too. He's not showing as
much power. I think maybe that could come back. Just
with the other two, especially with Zach Gelloff, I think
we're just chasing his rookie year and I don't think
we're going to get it back. I mean a twenty
seven percent strikeout right when he was at his best.
(55:27):
He was over thirty last year and he's forty percent
this year. So I just the bounce back is hard
to see with Geloff, and I think by default I
think of this group, I believe most long term in
Mark Viano's priest.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Do you agree with that?
Speaker 4 (55:40):
I one hundred percent agree with Mark Vanto's Trevor feld
a trade for him the thirty team league. We can
talk in the off season, but no, I believe in
Mark Vanto's I think the contact is some contact is
actually taking a step forward this season, and I think
that actually the two percent that has taken us up forward.
I think he's making more contact, but I think he's
sacrificing the quality of contact. I believe the bats he's
(56:00):
not as great, and he's not I believe. Let me see,
there's a lot of numbers here. I believe that the
poll in air, the air pole percentage has also taking
a dip down, because I think that's an entire organizational
philosophy that the Mets have decided to employ this season
that I think is actively hurt some of their players,
like Francisco Alvarez and Mark Fiantos especially. I will say
(56:20):
Mark Fiantos is a little bit more is volatile because
they do have a lot of options the Mets do
at that spot, and he is at risk of being
platooned or you know, messed around, playing time at Brent
Baidy's ascension, you know, or solidness Ronnie Mauricio, Luis Anhilacuno.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
So they have a lot of options.
Speaker 4 (56:36):
Jet Williams could come up and there's not a really
a third basement, but he can still come up and
take some play appearances away.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
So he there is some volatility here.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
But I do think that if he can get back
to pulling the air and the ball in the air
a little bit more. We could be talking about the
Mark Fiantos of last season.
Speaker 2 (56:51):
Good NASA is there for the pitchers. I think this
is also an interesting conversation. TODs Bradley, now of the
Minnesota Twins, dropped two hundred third three spots to three
sixty nine. Bailly Ober also up the Twins, dropped one
hundred and ninety three spots to three zero two, and
Brandon fat the most what is it? What is he
erased the most average pitcher?
Speaker 4 (57:10):
Average pitcher in baseball? He is No one has more
fifties than he does.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Dropped on hundred and fifty eighth boss to three thirty seven.
Who do you see bouncing back to be a valuable
starting pitcher in Dynasty recon We'll start with you.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
I think that Taj Bradley has a chance.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
I think he I just don't think the Rays ever
gave him, you know, a real like they gave him
a little bit of a shot, but I think that
they didn't really you know, and they didn't really tinker
with him as much. I know that the stuff's sort
of taking a step back this year, but we're still
talking about someone who has a really good breaking ball.
The Twins can maybe unlock a little bit more with
the fastball than the pasta is getting hit hard as
(57:49):
well as leave it over the plate. I think that
the command and the control took a step back this year,
and maybe that takes a step forward. He's such a
he's such a good athlete on the mound, and he's
so young, he's only twenty four years old. I think
that he's the guy that I would want to put
play my flag on as going forward who can bounce back.
And I think this is a this is a really
good gamble by the by the by the Twins, who
(58:12):
are a good player development and pitching development organization.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
Trevor, what do you think about this group of three?
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Yeah, the same thing.
Speaker 5 (58:20):
If you're gonna win in a fantasy league, you're chasing upside,
and I think TODs Bradley gives you the most upside
of anybody in this group. You know, thought, I think
you're I don't know. To me, he's just coasting off
the reputation of leading all of the miners and strikeouts
one year and we're kind of waiting on that to
happen at the big league level, and just really hasn't
(58:41):
just hasn't really come into his own.
Speaker 1 (58:44):
I think it's the big league level yet.
Speaker 5 (58:45):
So and Bailey over if you do get points for height,
he would be more helpful in your fantasy leagues. I
have yet to hear of a league like that, but
would be an interesting one.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
I'm sure we'll see. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 5 (58:57):
So I think if you're going upside it's got to
be Todd Bradley for a lot of the things that
Reese just said.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
So in that triples league, we can just make it
like tall starting pitchers and triples. Right.
Speaker 4 (59:08):
Yeah, we just named one more weird quirt Leaf. We
saw some pund of workshop it.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
All right, we'll talk about it, Okay, our prospect risers,
we've got some more Tiger's content here. Boys. Kevin McGonagall
up to number sixty on our don if you left
top one hundred and fifty nine spots, Jose Prisanio up
three hundred spots to one fifty five, and Eduardo Quintero.
I think this is one of your guys. Reese up
seventy six bots to one forty four. So Trevor will
(59:35):
start with you gush about your Tiger prospects.
Speaker 5 (59:40):
Yeah, so I actually, uh was not very in on
Brasannio heading into the year, and I was what you.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Call wrong and very wrong. That was my bad on that.
Speaker 5 (59:52):
I was like, you know, he had the home run
title in the AFL. He's going to coast off that
and his price is going to get huge and he's
not going to live up tow. It turns out that
was wrong, and Kevin McGonagall is just so good. I mean,
it's ridiculous, especially what he's doing now in Double A.
It's almost I put him on a list of guys who, like,
(01:00:14):
should we talk about him getting a September call up
or something for our Amateur Hour podcast. He won't, but
he's gonna be up really soon, like next year, early
next year.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
It should be.
Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
He is insane, he's putting up good EV numbers, he's
hitting for power.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
He can do so much.
Speaker 5 (01:00:30):
Kevin McGonagall is so good at baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
I want to talk about my Tigers, and I really
do very proud of what they've done. Kevin mcgonaga's the
second best proswact in baseball. I don't know if any
everyone's watched he turned on one hundred mile power fastball
from Harlan and Susana and smashed it one hundred and thirteen.
And I believe he hits some cars in a parking
lot outside of the area outside of the Erie Ballpark.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
So we're talking about car in Illinois, I think, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
Yeah, I think he also hit one hit my car
out here California. He's got that sort of power man like.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
I think that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Honestly, I wouldn't blame anybody in There are some publications
who have decided to rank Kevin McGonagall over Connor Grivan.
I don't blame you at all. It's really it's those two.
I think, if you really want to go above those guys,
I think.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
You might be getting a touch cute.
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
Jose Pera has been fantastic, and then Bardo Quintero. He
might be the rare five tool guy in all of
my league baseball. I put it in a tweet today.
I really do think that he is. And this is
not like me trying to have like a hot take
or anything. I think he's the best Dodgers prospect for
everything that I'm looking for. He's a good defensive center fielder,
he's a good impact, He's had a good arm, and
also I think there's power in there.
Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
I think there's plus power.
Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
At the end of the day, what does he have
like eighteen home runs in the season, and he's played
in some like I believe the Midwest League is not
the easiest environment for guys, especially like him, to hit.
And he hasn't really started to optimize his lifting and
pulling yet, which the Dodgers will get him to do. Yeah,
at Bardo Cintaro, I think that really he is someone
that I would contemplate like he could definitely up to
(01:01:56):
the top ten prospects when we do decide to do
our big list in the offseason, because I just if
every hits every benchmark, then I wont awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
We got a few prospect followers, just real short answer,
tell me who you think can bounce back of this group,
Braydon Taylor, Jason Cherio, Ethan Sallas Jackson, Boubister, Gary gil Hill,
and Noah Schultz trembo star with few no Schultz, I
wanted to put way too aggressive grades on him. When
(01:02:25):
I was writing up the report in the offseason, I
texted Rees about it. Reese probably thought I was dumb,
but his stuff was so good. The command was there
and it's just taking a step back this year. I
think all that's still in there. So No Schultz is
that bounce back guy for me.
Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
Reef, I'm going with Jason Cherio. I I just I
don't think he's as what he was this season. I
think the shoulder injury was maybe happen a little bit
earlier on than we think. I mean, this is a
guy who's a good contact guy. The power is still
a little bit questionable, but we're talking about a guy
who could still twenty to thirty even forty bases if
given the green light. I think there's non zero power here.
(01:02:58):
I think it's like twelve to fifteen home runs. So
if you're still in TOWLD, if you're a twelve to
fifteen home runs and walking a good clip, I think
that there's.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
A chance for more here.
Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
So Jason Curio is the guy I would definitely be
buying up. I'd be buying law Awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Okay, we're gonna finish off this podcast with some Dynasty buys.
We're going to do one hitter and one pitcher each,
So Trevor will start with your hitter. Who are you
buying right now? In Dynasty?
Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
Keep in mind, I play in a thirty team league,
and that takes up most of my brain space. So
that's what I'm thinking of from the Brewers organization. Marco
Dingis he is a catcher, but he has been great
this year at the plate, hitting for power, hitting for
good evs, walking a lot, not striking out a lot.
He's really had kind of a breakout year and I
think he's starting to get more and more helium behind him.
(01:03:45):
But I think you can still buy pretty low on
him for where he's going to end up within the
next year or two.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
Awesome, Reece, who is your hitter?
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
My hitter is Brandon Compton. He did not have the
greatest season in the Arizona say he's going to be
someone that people are going to be I I implore
people if he is your second or third selection in
a FIPD hall, screenshot it, send it tag me on
Twitter at REESB.
Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
White.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
I want to see it because we're talking about one
hundred and eighteen mile prior exit velocity with Wood. We're
talking about a good athlete, So there's power and speed.
Here is the hit tool a little bit questionable?
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
I also think that when you leave a program like
Arizona state. I do think that you do too, do
tend to take a step forward. It's not the best
player development set up there. So I think that with
the with the Rays in there, or sorry the Marlins
and their Ray's influence, I would that's that's someone that
I really want at FYPDS. And I cannot scream it
(01:04:37):
loud enough, Brandon confidence. So one that I think you
should be leaving everyone your FIPDS with.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
My hitter is Dalton Rushing, and this is only because
I'm hoping he gets traded because in Los Angeles he's
not playing. He's a backup catcher. Essentially, he's taken the
Austin Barnes role and he's playing twice a week and
struggling because he's not playing every day. But I just
trust his skills. He's an excellent hitter. He hits the
(01:05:04):
ball at ideal angles, he hits it with velocity, he
has good contact skills. He can play multiple positions if
he's asked to do that. He just needs to get
out of vallet and get somewhere else so he gets
the full time playing time. So I'm still a big
fan adult and Rushing. All right, Reeese, We'll start with
you for your picture.
Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
I love Ryan Gallagher.
Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
Ryan Gallagher is has one of the better change ups
in all of my league baseball. It has almost a
fifteen mile per hour difference off the fastball. The fastball
average is around ninety one miles per hour, the change
up averages around seventy seven miles per hour. He's getting
a forty three percent with rate on the change up.
And you know, and what is admittedly very small sample size,
(01:05:46):
but you know, we talked about Connor pre Lip. I
think Ryan Gallagher sort of falls in that similar realm
without the injury concerns just yet.
Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
The ultimate question is does how the slider and curveball develop?
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
But they're both distinct pitches and I think that in
the twins order they can kind of unlock a little
bit more than the Cubs weren't able to unlock.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Ryan Galler or someone that I really really like.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Awesome Trevor who is your arm from the Angels organization?
Tray Gregory Alford. I am a huge fan. I've watched
a lot of his starts on stream and it's been great.
And in my mind, outside of let's say Tyler Bremner
and Cayden Dana He's probably their next best pitching prospect.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
For me.
Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
He hits, he sits upper nineties, will hit triple digits.
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
He's been up to one o two.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
I think you touched that on the complex this year,
since his promotion to single A as a nineteen year old,
he has a twenty seven percent strikeout rate and a
nine percent walk rate. Small sample of twelve innings, but
he can strike guys out. He's not walking a whole
lot of guys this year, and I think he's got
big stuff. And I couldn't be more in on Trey
Gregory Alford awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
I saw him this season. I'm a big I'm a
big fan.
Speaker 4 (01:06:51):
I think it's plus fastball with command of it as well,
and then and then a good breaking ball.
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Greg, I didn't mean to cut
you off.
Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
No, you're good.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
You could. I'm gonna call out a pitcher I've never
been high on. I've never liked this guy until most
recently the last couple of weeks hurst in Waldrip of
the Braves, and really only because he's made an adjustment
in his arsenal and he's throwing his sinker a whole
lot more. We've heard that it came from a Sean
(01:07:21):
Murphy rehab assignment where he just told Waldrip to throw
your sinker more, throw more. And he worked on in
this season and he's come up with the Braves. He
pitched kind of in an emergency role at that NASCAR
track game and looked amazing in relief, and he's looked
really good in its two starts since then as well.
(01:07:41):
And it's just the revamped arsenal. He's always had good stuff.
That splitter is nasty. He's always had one of the
one of the better splitters in the game. But now
with this, with the sinker and kind of reducing his
four team a little bit more, just getting a different look.
It's it's a difficult look to pick up. So Hirston
Waldrip's the guy that I'll be buying right now. So
(01:08:05):
all right, guys, we made it. Made it through our
podcast sheet here. I appreciate you both jumping on and
doing a fantastic job. I knew you both would. Trevor,
what's going on with you right now? What are you
working on? Where can people find you?
Speaker 5 (01:08:21):
You can find me on Twitter at whoth Trevor. Check
the Daily Sheet because that's most of where I'm writing
at this point, and of course check out Amateur Hour.
I do that with Adam. We actually record an episode
just before I hopped on to record this one. Still
a pretty brand new podcast, but we have fun with it.
