Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, and welcome back to the On Deck podcast
by Prospects Live. And we have a special guest joining
us today, Will Thompson. Get ready to hear from Will
about some prospects, some division races, and what's on Will's mind.
We always love hearing what's on Will's mind. But we're
gonna get right into the action here, guys, right after
this break from the drop teams and get ready for
a great episode.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
And boys on the corner, we're trying to figure you out.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
At okay, And here we have it, guys. We kind
of have a prep sheet here that's a little bit
all over the place. We're gonna go through some some
divisional races that we think are exciting. We're gonna talk
about the Brewers a little bit, one of the most fun
teams in baseball right now on how they're doing this

(00:50):
Reese cheating maybe I don't know. And we're gonna talk
about some prospects and some MLB players and a couple
of topics that we've just been thinking about today. This
is kind of your your all encompassing podcasts, just four
guys talking about baseball. All right, so's gonna start off
with the NL West. And because I didn't give you
a proper introduction today, will I'm gonna start with you here.

(01:10):
What are your thoughts in this NL West playoff race
heating up right now? I mean, do you have a favorite?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
First of all, I still think the favorites of the Dodgers,
But I think when you look at what a j.
Peler did at the trade deadline with San Diego, uh,
it was gutsy and it was pushing all of his
cards to the to the front of the table, and
so far you got to give him credit. For as
far as this year's Padres team, it has really worked out.

(01:36):
This team is playing phenomenal baseball right now. They have
so much depth up and down the line up that
they're originally kind of going to the year it was
a little bit too much of a top heavy lineup.
Now with you know, adding Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Loreano,
they've they've really helped out the overall depth of their lineup.
Their starting pitching has been has been pretty has been
pretty good as well, and Dylan Cees had looked really

(01:59):
good against the Red Sox.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Again.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I like during our trade deadline stream, we were we
were talking like.

Speaker 5 (02:03):
Oh, Cese has got to get moved. Cease has got
to get moved.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Why.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
I mean, you're aj Preller, You're you're going all in?
Why are you tre Why are you giving up an
arm like Dylan Ceese if you're going all in for
this year? So, uh, it's worked out really well. And
the bullpen is just spectacular. I mean, saw the saw them,
watch them pretty closely go against my Red Sox, and
it's just it's just unbelievable the amount of arms that
they can they can throw at you with of course

(02:26):
Suarez and Miller in the back end, but uh, but
Morahane is an absolute weapon as well. I mean, this
is a really deep Major league roster right now, and
even if the farm system is mostly cleaned out at
this point, Uh, the Padres are are a really fun team,
and especially for.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
For this for this year. Uh, they are.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
They're a legitimate there were a real threat to win
the NL West and potentially win a World Series.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
I would still pick the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
I think once they they're starting to get some guys back,
they're starting to look healthy. But it's it's gonna be
a fascinating race between those two, and I hope we
get another match up of San Diego and the Dodgers
in October, because I think this could be an all
time one.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Christ do you think that the Padres forming this the
super bullpen, if you will, is like the next trend
in Major League Baseball? Because our playoff race is like
realistically one with the bullpen now, because that's where my
mind first goes when thinking about the Padres. They're just
building their team a little bit differently. They're going for
the strongest bullpen. Do you think that's a good strategy
for them?

Speaker 6 (03:24):
I wonder it's a very high risk strategy because you're
putting a lot of mileage on relievers, and relievers don't
tend to throw a lot of innings. So it's just
putting a lot of wear and tear on those guys.
And let's be real, Mason Miller, as much as he's
a mercurial talent and one of the almost electrical arms
we've probably ever seen in the game of baseball, we're
talking about just a lot of wear.

Speaker 7 (03:44):
And tear on that.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
I do also think that on being undersold a little
bit with them is what Will was talking about a
little bit with the With the addition with the addition
of Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Loreano that really lengthened out
was starting to look like a very top heavy lineup.
Now you have Freddy for me and who's only in
there for his defense. But you know, if you saw
some of the that they were rolling out this past year.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
It was rough. In San Diego.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
The best rivalry in baseball the Padres and the Dodgers.
As long as neither one of those fan base and desires.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
Start rapping, it's electric.

Speaker 6 (04:11):
So yeah, I like what the Padres are doing, and
I think this is an interesting metadis question for the
regular season, but I do think it is a very
high risk strategy to answer your question absolutely, Drew.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
First off, can you say one good thing about the
Giants just so we get that out of the way
and then you go into your NLS discourse.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Absolutely, First of all, about the Giants, you have a
Hall of Famer at the Helm. You have got several
players that played at the University of Tennessee. We know
for a fact they look good in orange, So I
mean that's going for you. Also, one of my all
time favorite games that reminds me of heartbreak is the
twenty eleven. I believe it's twenty eleven, twenty ten, twenty ten,

(04:49):
excuse me, twenty ten NLCS final game. Brian Wilson striking
out Ryan Howard looking makes me hurt every time. Never
can't watch it, though. I think these guys have really
taken Nate a lot of the major talking points I had,
which is fair and honestly to be expected when you
go third. I like the Padres man the addition of
Ramon Loriano especially. I think he just playing in California

(05:13):
really seems to suit him because in his time back
with the Padres, it's almost like he turned the Bunsen
burner up even hotter. He was really good with the Orioles,
but now it looks like he's just hot when the
Padres need him. Hopefully it'll stay that way. I agree
with Reese's point about the bullpen being a risky move,
but it's one that I think we talked about it
on a previous episode that really, at this point you

(05:33):
need five innings. If you get six out of your
starter in the playoffs your goal, because you have at
least at least six or seven relievers in the pen
who I would trust to get a solid ending out.
That being said, I think Will may have buried the
lead a bit. It is the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's
the new evil Empire. It's gonna be hard for anybody
to beat him. But this Padres teams has a certain

(05:57):
flavor of flavor of fun and destiny too of them
that I'm really enjoying watching.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I always love a good team that's just constructed a
bit different than the rest, you know. And we'll see
how it pays off of them come October. Obviously, the
World Series odds are towards the bottom of any current
playoff team, so consensus right now is leaning against the Padres.
But we'll see right playoffs is a whole new game.
We're gonna move on to the Al West now and
my Seattle Mariners at the third best World Series odds

(06:24):
in baseball right now, Drew, We're gonna go straight back
to you. You get to talk first in this one.
Are the Mariners serious? What's going on with the Astros?
It looks like Texas is dead? What are your thoughts
in the Al West in general? Right now?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Texas being dead doesn't really bode well for the United
States economy or our friend Will Thompson. So I'm gonna
say that the Rangers look to be dead in the water.
That's okay, I'm just picking at you, buddy. I think
that the Mariners are probably still gonna be the heavy
favorite from this division, although Nate, You're gonna hate to

(06:56):
hear it. I've really enjoyed the Astros over the last
probably decade. That's just a fun team.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
They win, they play ball well.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
That being said, man, the Mariners are still really in it.
And something that I'm really interested in noting here is
that the schedules for the last half of the year.
Something I want to look at here how many games
the Astros and Mariners both play at home versus on
the road, because a very interesting note, both of these
teams are thirty seven and twenty five at home, significantly
better records at home than a way. I mean, you

(07:23):
would expect that, but it's just interesting that neither of
them seem to have a clear advantage on the road,
where some of these very important games could be played.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Absolutely, Reese to you, al West, what are your thoughts
right now?

Speaker 6 (07:39):
I think this is going to be one of the
more fascinating divisional races, because I mean, we're looking at
it right, I'm looking at the standings. It doesn't look
like there's going to be a lot of very interesting
I mean the American League East, if we wanted to
touch on that quickly. But yeah, I'm going to go
with the Mariners. I think that the way in which
they've been playing, I believe what, they're eight and two
in their last ten games. Everything's sort of clicking for them.
The pitching's fantastic. I mean, I guess that Brian Woo

(08:00):
would end up being the best picture of the bunch,
not me. Bryce Miller's gonna be back soon, So I mean,
we're talking about a playoff rotation that, honestly, where's one
of these guys gets bumped to the bullpen is going
to be a fascinating discussion because Brian wu George Kirby Logan,
Gilbert Luis Castillo and Bryce Miller is absolutely a nasty,
five headed monster to get you through the regular season,
and then the best three of those guys are going

(08:21):
to be able to go and take it for you,
and then you know you have two guys bumping down
to the bullpen.

Speaker 7 (08:27):
I'm in on what the Mariners are doing.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
The Astros they're doing stuff, I guess, but you know,
I think Josh Hater just got hurt, so that kind
of makes things a little bit up in the air.
So I'm gonna ride with the Seattle Mariners and ride
with my boy Nate Thompson or.

Speaker 7 (08:38):
Nate Nate rast was by the two of you guys.

Speaker 6 (08:41):
You guys Fusion Dance together, Dragon ball Z styles.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
And me and Will's adopted son's name, Will al West thoughts,
what are you? What are you thinking? Right now?

Speaker 3 (08:52):
So right now, right now, I think the Mariners are
the are the better team. I think that I would
peg them as a pretty comfortable favorite. And the reason
I say that is it and it cannot be it
cannot be understated how impressive the Astros, with the unbelievable
amount of injuries that they've had, are in this position.
So I'll start with that. But really, since the All

(09:15):
Star Break, they've started to go downhill and it started
to catch up to them. I mean, ultimately that they
have some good pieces, but you know, you're running Taylor
Tremuel out there every single day like it's it's that's
not Taylor Trammel is not playing every day for many
playoff teams or any of them. So and that's not
a shot Taylor Trammel specifically, but that's the that's unfortunately

(09:35):
the injury situation that they've had. And yes, I think
when you look at the Astros starting rotation and say, okay,
look when Garcia comes when when Garcia comes back, it
could be it could be a lot different. I mean
when mccullars comes back, like, hey, like this rotation on.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
Paper looks really good, which is true it does.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
But I just I am not going to I don't
feel comfortable betting on the Astros and guys and guys
who will been especially starting pitchers who have been out
for so long and are all and you have like
three guys coming off of Tommy John and you're gonna
thrust them right into the middle of an Al West race.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
Uh, in a in a Pennant race.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
It could work, and on paper, I feel a lot
more comfortable with them. Potentially next year. I'm obviously well
with Valdez. I guess we'll see what happens with friend
er Valdez. But uh, I just I'm not really a
big believer in what's going on with the Astros right
now and the offensively they need Jordan Alvarez back so
bad and if they don't have him, they don't really
have much of a chance. Uh.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
And so they want They won a lot of close
games in that streak.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
But I'm just not a big believer in the Astros
and the fact that Seattle has played so well and
for all the reasons that Drew and Reese have mentioned.
The the other thing is and Hino Suarez has not
been very good since the trade to Seattle, and the
Mariners have had no problem. They've had no problem at all,
and Suarez is.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Going to get going.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
And this this Mariner's lineup is just so deep.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
They have an elite that they have elite starting pitching
and maybe the bullpen top to bottom is an awesome
but the.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Back end is really good.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
So I think the Mariners for me are pretty clear
favorite in the Al West.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
It's an exciting time, man. I want to note that
Bryce Miller just hit a fastball pr on a rehab
assignment in Triple A after coming off an elbow injury.
How often does that happen? It actually makes me quite
excited for what he could provide as a definite bullpen option,
you know, with that elite fastball, and then you have
to think, like George Kirby or Logan Gilbert, realistically, are
one of them is going to get sent to the

(11:24):
penantill Probably George Kirby. We saw him him pitching the
playoffs against Toronto two years ago. But let's move on
from the l Wes. Let's talk about the most fun
team in baseball, the Milwaukee Brewers. Isaac Collins looks to
be the rookie year favorite in the NL. Now let's
go to Reese on this one. The Milwaukee Brewers. Are
you buying this? Do you think that that's a team
that's built to win in the postseason or is just

(11:46):
just kind of like a fun regular season to run.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
I think they're a team that's built to win in
the postseason. They are so aggressive on the base pass,
they take the extra base, They are smart and savvy
on the bass pass. They went away, and they went
at home. They're forty two to twenty at home, thirty
four and twenty. That is a league best thirty four
wins on the road. They're ten to zero in their
last ten games. We're talking about, you know, just like
they are a pain in the ass to deal with.

(12:08):
Because they, like I said, they take the extra base,
they steal bags like nobody's business.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
They hit.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
You know, everything is sort of falling right for them.
The rotation looks good, and they have guys getting injured.
I mean, Logan Henderson comes up and we're all excited
and celebrating, and then all of a sudden he gets hurt.
We have mis arrouse. He got hurt, and it looks
like he should be fine. But I mean, this is
a rotation of Freddy Perralta, Brandon Woodriff, Quinn Priester, the
Revival of all Revivalscause at one point, guys looks like
his Major League stought were wondering if he was a

(12:34):
quad A guy. Now he's a He's going to be pitching,
I believe as a starter for this team in the postseason.
They're also a team that can get kind of weird.
They're not afraid to get weird. They just threw Tobias
Myers into the bullpen in a long relief sort of role,
so they could honestly do some really interesting things in
the postseason. They could go three innings, three innings, three
innings in a game if they need to. They can
do anything that they want. This is one of my
this is one of my favorite teams. And they're cheating obviously,

(12:56):
you know, that's how they're doing all this, and the
power of friendship as well, and the power of pocket
pain cakes.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Well, I don't want to claim anything. There is such
a thing as phantom I ling rookies to save their
innings for the postseason. I'm not saying it's what they're doing,
but you know, maybe if they took an extra couple
of weeks with Henderson or Miserowski or whatnot, or if
anything was even going on with Jacob Mizerowski, not a
bad idea to keep them around for a longer postseason run.

(13:21):
Will the Milwaukee Brewers, what are your thoughts?

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Well, Nate, you mentioned the whole phantom I l and
the fact that the that the Brewers can now be
very patient with a lot of guys while a lot
of their young arms down the stretch because their their
lead has with this twelve game winning streak as we record,
it is balloon.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Their their anal central lead.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
Up to eight games as we record, So there's there,
there is there's cushion to work with, there's room to
be patient, and and yeah, I do believe for all
the reasons you guys mentioned, but I to talk about
one guy, to talk about one guy specifically, I cannot
believe what has happened with Andrew Vaughd. It is the
to me, it is the story of the year, what Andrew.

(14:04):
What has happened with Andrew Vaughn with going from one
of the worst players in baseball with the Chicago White Sox,
a little bit of a Triple A stint where he
was good with in Triple A, but he didn't light
it up. He didn't light the world on fire. And
all he has done since coming since since getting called
up to the big leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers in
twenty eight games, has putting up a one eighty five

(14:26):
WRC plus and his strikeout rate is just fifteen percent.
Walk rate is up to nine and a half percent
since the trade. You can look at the You can
look as far as his chase rate too. His chase
rate with the White Sox this year before before he
ended up getting sent down and ultimately ultimately traded with
the White Sox in the big leagues thirty six percent
with the Brewers twenty seven percent. So it is it

(14:49):
is the improvements that Vaughn has made, and there was
a lot of concern with when Reese Hoskins went down.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
He had pretty he was having a pretty good year.
What are they going to do? Andrew Vaughn the.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Turn around that he has had, and he has provided
a lot of the power that the Brewers didn't necessarily have,
and it has made them a really well rounded team.
They're so fun to watch and they they the way
that they play.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
They play the game the right way.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Pat Murphy's an incredible manager, and they just they just
do a great job. And the turnaround of Vaughan is
just remarkable.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Drew, any lasting thoughts? I know you sorry you have
to go after these two genius babies before you, But
do you have any thoughts on on the Brewers?

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, don't just know that I'm keeping track of what
you're doing to me here, Nate.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
I mean Andrew Vaughan.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
As Will says the story of the year, Kid comes
out and says, until the day I die, Brewers, I'll
spill my heart for you. That's an Emo joke. For
any of you at home that are my agent, know
what's up with that song. It's funny because Reese was
talking about the guy we thought was a quad a
guy and who has really turned the story around. And
then Will of course just catches that lob for the
alley oop and they're absolutely right. Andrew Vaughan the story

(15:56):
of the year. Something that I was really kind of
digging into with Andrew Stats the other day is that
Vaughn is excelling at a career high in pulling the
ball in the air more so.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Yes, as Will said, he is getting.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
To more power, but he's doing it through just pulling
the ball in the air. It's kind of the main
kind of basis of batting that we're seeing kind of
as a staple going forward as Lyft and poll and
Vaughn is doing that. We are seeing him kind of
in terms of his max exit velocity a little lesser
than in his career, but it's more consistent hard contact.
It's a far better barrel rate than we've ever seen

(16:32):
from him. It's a far better hard hit rate. I
think that I don't know, Maybe Andrew Vaughn is just
a guy. Like I said with Romon Loreano California agrees
with him. Maybe it's just the cheeseheads in Wisconsin that
Andrew Vaughn just feels right at home. Who are we
to judge?

Speaker 1 (16:47):
And I feel like we almost have to touch on
Isaac Collins here, twenty eight year old rookie who is
a former Rule five guy, escaped Colorado, he's for three
war Right now, does anyone have like will Isaac Collins
like the rookie's the rookie of your favorite now after
this last crazy week? Like what is where did this
come from? And what's the realistic like a long term

(17:09):
outlook for guy like Collins?

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Man, I mean, he definitely is the the the Rookie
of the year front runner in the n E n
L right now as far as what he can what
he can be down the line, it's still it's still
a pretty small sample. So is it possible that he
just caught lightning in a bottle and.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
This is the best?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Uh, this is the best you know three months that
that he's going to play And it's possible.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
But I mean, Collins is he's so he's a well
rounded hitter. He's he's a good defender too. He's just
so much fun to watch play.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
He's he's a good all around player and he's he
gives a lot of what this lineup of what this
lineup really needs and just and it seems like in
big spots too, he really comes up big, which is
something that should be noted as well.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
So am I I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
I'm not sure i'd go that I'm sold for like long,
long term yet. But he's really impressive and he's such
an important part of this Brewer's run and among others,
but Collins is just what a remarkable story.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
The twenty eight year old Rukie is is always a
fun one, especially on the insanity year that he is having. Okay, guys,
I got three prospects to talk about here, and I'm
gonna give each of you guys one minute to talk
about each of these guys, So keep your eye on
the clock, and we're starting with Drew nol McLean. Drew,
what are your thoughts? Just called up? Starting on Saturday
for the Mets.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Yes, starting on Saturday for the Mets. The cool thing
with McLean.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Is that he has sort of leap frog several other
Mets prospects. I think if you're listening to this show,
chances are you're well aware of what Nolan MacLean has
done this year. And I'm not going to say it
any better than the geniuses that I've been roped in
here with, So I'll let them do that. The thing
with McLean is that he is incredibly electric. He's done
everything well. This is what you get when you have
a guy who focuses on not only two sports, but

(18:54):
on two sides of the ball. It's hyper specifying what
he's focusing on. You're obviously going to get good result,
especially when it's a guy as disciplined and as frankly
talented as Nolan McLean is. Can't wait what she played
for any other team?

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Will Thompson, Your minute begins now, Nolan McLean?

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Yeah, Nolan McLean is.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
He's had he's had such a good year and I'm
excepted the Mets really need pitching very very badly, in
case anybody was keeping an eye on the on this
Brave Mets series so far. But yeah, McLean's got really
good stuff as a as a former two way.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
He's got good command as well. You can command all
of his pitches and yeah, he's just a really nice,
well rounded arm.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
And I'm excited to see him make make his debut
with the Mets this weekend because I think he's a stud.
Uh and he's he's really catapulted up this year. He's
had an excellent ear in trouble A, So I'm really
excited to see what he can provide and hopefully get
this Mets starting rotation a spark that they really need
because they're in they're they're starting rotations in pretty dire
shape at the moment.

Speaker 6 (19:54):
Reese nol McLean, what you mean to tell me that
you don't think that what was his name, Frankie Montas
was the solution to their rotation woes.

Speaker 7 (20:03):
I am Sheldon Peers.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
He is the most forty five pitcher there is, and
he has made a lot of money for forty five. Anyways,
Nolan McLain, who is not a forty five, I honestly
think he's a fifty five. We're talking about elite high
end like velocity, you know, averages ninety four on the fastball.
Sweeper is just discussing cutters. Also really good. The uptaking command,
ever since he started focusing on pitching full time, has
been really exciting to see. I think we're seeing a
bunch of these guys all of a sudden this year

(20:26):
the command has taken a step forward. Jacob Isarowski, Nolan
McLain Chase Burns even though the command wasn't bad. But McMann,
I think he's taking a step forward this year. Nolan
McLain is going to factor in. Honestly, he's probably the
most high upside arm that they have outside of code
A Senga. But code A Senga has had injury issues
in this past and will have them in his future
because unfortunately Code A Senga consistently spend some time on
the injured list. But that's neither that's a fine. This

(20:48):
really allows them to do a bunch of different things.
Maybe they move Clay Holmes so the Wolpen, which I
think would be silly, but you know, some people need
to think that it would be a good idea. I
don't agree with those people. I don't tend to agree
those people on a lot of things. But yeah, chlus
Clay Holmes has been perfectly find the three starter for
them that they paid, you know, not a lot of
money for.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (21:04):
So Nolan McLain, I'm very excited to see it and
I'll be tuning in. I might be writing an article
on it. I haven't decided yet.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
It's a it's just the most most cromulent. He use
the word that we throw around mid level starter and
in a very good team's rotation, like if he is
the three or the four for the Mets for a
long time. I think that makes a lot of sense.
Will he ever be a one or two? I would
highly doubt it based on kind of what I've seen,
But it's such a good It's like the Tray Savage molt.

(21:29):
It's like, Wow, he's a really high end, you know,
game three starter in a playoff series. Maybe not this year,
but moving forward. Okay, our next guy's Owen case who
has finally gotten the call to the MLB. What will
his role be? It's probably a bench bet. But Owen
Casey almost had a thousand triple A played appearances. He
luckily got called up before he hit that mark. I

(21:52):
was counting down the days. We'll start with you, Reese,
what are your thoughts on Owen Casey getting called the show?

Speaker 2 (21:57):
And?

Speaker 6 (21:58):
Uh, yeah, I think there are some slight platoon risk here.
I do think he maybe we were a little over
zealous in him. I think he's a perfectly fine bench bat.
You can tell that the Cubs are scrambling because they're
trying to pull any lever that they can to catch
up to the Brewers in this divisional race, and Casey
seems to be the first level that they're gonna pull.

Speaker 7 (22:16):
It's plus power.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
I think it's you know, sub the contact kind of
just comes and goes with them. But he does draw
a walk at like a decent enough clip. I do
think that there's a lot more passivity here than I
think a lot of people are talking about. So I
think that there's just going to be high strikeout rates
to go along with the high walk rates. But I'm
excited to see him. I honestly, I'm surprised he didn't
get trade of the deadline.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Me too, Will Thompson Owen Casey.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
Yeah, own Owen Casey is uh.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
It just there reached a point where he was just
destroying Triple A so much that there just wasn't much too.
You could say, like, oh, he needs every day at bats,
but what else did he have to prove in Triple A?
At this point in the Cubs, with the struggles that
they've had, really needed a spark is.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
As Reese mentioned.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
But yeah, I think I'm not as big on Casey
as others. I just think there's gonna be a lot
of swing and miss problems. And I think also Reese
spot on with the with there with being a little
bit passive at times this year in triple A forty
six percent swing rate, I think I think with the
power that he does have, I just think with the
swing and miss combo combo with that, I'm a little

(23:20):
bit I'm a little bit worried that there's going to
be too many strikeouts and he's not going to provide
the defense and the base running to really make up
for it. So I think the Cubs are trying to
look or trying to look for a spark, which they should.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
But I and I think I think Casey's a good.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Player with you know, I think you Nate when you
mentioned a bench pat bringing him up, seeing if you
can hit a home run, hit a home run off
the bench, swing for the fences.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
But I think I'm not as I'm not super hot
on on Casey as a player, even though a lot
of them not, even though the Triple A numbers are phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Drew, what are your thoughts on on Owen Casey.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
I think that these again, these guys have done a
wonderful job what the story is with Owen Casey. The
Cubs need a spark. Is Casey that spark. I'm gonna
put it at maybe a twenty percent likelihood that he's
the spark that they're looking for. It could happen. I mean,
it could happen. Anything could happen. I just don't necessarily
see it. This is a guy who if you kind

(24:15):
of transposed his numbers at Triple A to the major
leagues in terms of power, because I know a lot
of people are going to talk about Owen Casey's power
being his carrying.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Tool, and it likely is.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
But as Ree said, not only does it come with
kind of the platoon risk, it also comes with the
fact that it's going to be denigrated slightly as he
goes up to the next level. Obviously he's facing better pitching.
If you kind of extrapolate Casey's numbers, imagine him between
the fifty and sixtieth best power bat in Major League Baseball.

(24:48):
Not bad at all, but it's certainly not the level
of power that I think some people are.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
Projecting it to be.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
So just be careful with that temper your expectations and
anything you get beyond them will be obviously a lovely treat.
Another real quick note nobody ever talks about with O'Casey.
Kid has got insane here. He has almost like a
red afro, which is really really cool.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
And that is what matters on the baseball field. If
we're being honest, Sal Stewart, I'm gonna pitch it right
back to you, Drew. What are your thoughts on Sal
Stewart kind of guys tearing up the miners this year?
And I feel like we have some mixed opinions on
this podcast regarding salth Stewart. I'd love to hear what
you think about him as a player.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Sure. Well again, if we're gonna just use kind of
the triple A numbers, boy, they look great. He was
promoted not long after I met him in Atlanta this year.
Didn't really get a chance to interview him. Stuck up
my hand to him and said hi, Salom Drew Wheeler.
He said, hi, Drew Wheeler, I'm Sal Stewart, and then
he walked off.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Great interaction. A plus seventy gree.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
What we're seeing out of this guy though a very
similar power ironically to Owen Casey. So again, consider if
for whatever reason, Stuart was the guy being called up
to the Reds, which bizarre choice. The Reds need an
infielder like to need a hole in the head, very
similar power to expect to project at that next level.
We are seeing him really rational swing decisions at this point.

(26:06):
But I think the song remains the same for Sal Stewart.
If I have to be honest, if I might quote
the Great Blessings Law, if he's not gonna give you
more than twenty five home runs or twenty five stolen
bases at second base, is he viable? I'll leave that
question for the other two guys to add to ponder.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
Will what are your thoughts on Stal Stewart?

Speaker 5 (26:30):
So?

Speaker 1 (26:32):
I like Sal.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Stewart as a hitter for for sure, I think, And
the numbers have been incredible since he since he's went
up to triple A. I just wonder if he's going
to hit enough, because honestly, I think he's I think
he's more destined for potential for potential first base. I
don't really love the glove at all, I think, and
he's been he's been playing third. You know, the body
isn't great, but so you're kind of wonder how it's going,

(26:56):
kind of wonder how it's going to translate.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
But the bats of.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
All skills are are you know, potentially double plus like
they're they're really really good and uh and he's been
able to hit for power, So I'm buying the bat
uh And you know, I really do think he can hit.
He's got it and he's he's sneaky athletic too as well.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
You can run a little bit.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
But I do worry about the glove, and it's it's
a very odd profile, a very odd, you know, corner
corner infield type profile that that I think he probably
projects better towards uh that uh that is that is
interesting for sure. It's definitely it's a it's a unique profile.
But I I think I'm a big fan of the
batoball skills. They're they're they're really good, really good hand

(27:34):
eye coordination too, and so I'm I definitely like him.
I just wonder when you when you combine all the
facets of his game. You know, I don't think, for example,
war is going to like him very much, but when
you look at the offensive numbers, hey, he could be something,
especially even if he.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
Comes more of a more of a DH. But you
got to really hit to make that work.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
All right, ree, I'm gonna let you off the chain here, man.
Just just go for it. Just do what you gotta do.

Speaker 6 (28:00):
I think he has massive holes in his swing. I
don't appreciate it. I'm just tooking, but you know I'm not.
I'm being serious about the holes in his swing. He
really struggles with anything that's not like middle middle. He
has a tendency to chase breaking ball vertically incline, breaking
balls out of the zone pretty often. Actually, we're also
talking about a guy who will chase high fastball, so
it's not like he's he's not very good in the
current meta pitching, and I just and then he has

(28:22):
struggles hitting things away from him, So I just don't.

Speaker 7 (28:24):
I'm not a big fan of him.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
I don't.

Speaker 6 (28:25):
I don't really like. I don't see the top one
hundred bus. I know he's performing well. I know he's
close to the majors and that's fine, and I know
he's got good evs.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
I just don't.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
It's just not the sort of profile that I'm really
gonna like die on the hill for that.

Speaker 7 (28:36):
I feel like some people are. I'd rather have c J. Kafas.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
I'd rather have a bunch of other guys, especially if
we're gonna have a first base prospect, I'd rather have,
Like you know, there's just it's just not my thing
and I don't And at second base he's bad, and
I mean they need some they need some infielders because
let me tell you, the Cabrian Hayes thing is probably
not going very well.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
I can just imagine, not even to.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
Pull the stats on that, Matt McLain has sort of
taken a big step back. So that's their second base
and third base situation. Cencier serieson really good this year.
Honestly a little bit underrated. Him and Abbott have been
two of the more under discussed players in all of
Major League baseball. So I just but I'm not a
big time I'm never gonna I'm never gonna pretend to
be a big salth Stewart guy. I never really have been.
It's kind of like a first base only profile that
I don't think has quite the power that I want

(29:16):
from that position.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
And he might get into a little bit of power
playing in that ballpark in Cincinnati, which is something, but
that's not going to show up on on WRC plus
or war. Okay, I have a question. I'm taking over
this show because I want to We're talking about a
guy like South Stewart Reese. What's the difference between him
and a guy like Michael Royo? And is Michael Royo
guy you can see in the top one hundred list
or are those not your types right there? Because both

(29:40):
of our playing second base, neither of them can play defense.
Both very offensive guys.

Speaker 7 (29:44):
I need to probably want Michael Royle Down. I just
don't you know him.

Speaker 6 (29:47):
Lazara Montes, I don't don't care for dhs at this point.
You have to be truly you have to be who's
the last good DH prospect?

Speaker 7 (29:55):
You'red on Alvarez.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
That was kind of it. So yeah, I'm maybe I
need to momp Michael Royal Down. I should viel them
very similarly, and I don't feel them both very highly.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
I feel like in our conversations you you do, you
have made that clear, and I wasn't like an attack like,
oh you need to move Michael Royal Down. I'm a
Mariners fan and I just don't get it with Michael
Royal or Glex southstart because of that positional value. Drew,
what do you got?

Speaker 2 (30:17):
I was just gonna say that Bob Seymour erasure won't stand.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
He has thirty home runs. On Triple A, he had
three home runs.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Seymour is a Durham Bulls legend.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
He had a throng the other day and that.

Speaker 7 (30:30):
Was going cool.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
Does really well on the KBO. Like, I just don't
think there's ever gonna be a chance for him in
the Major League Baseball. I really know he's gonna be
like a rock star over there. I'm not saying this
as like a derogatory thing, like he'sn' gonna go over
there and hit like eighty home runs.

Speaker 7 (30:43):
Like I really hope the best for him.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
I'll probably make a make a make a crap ton
of money too, So shout out to Bobby Seymour.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Okay, our last topic of the day is going to
be one pc A and I'm going to pitch it
to Will for our longer analysis on PCA, as he
is our guest, and then I'll give Drew and Reese
a second to talk about pc as well.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Well.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
What are we seeing with Pete at this point? The
hype has died down, the bad is not as good.
Did we see the best of PCA and his career already.
Kind of give me your well rounded thoughts.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Okay, So the the red flags with PCA, they're not
They're not a secret, right And even when he was
even when he was light in the world on fire,
the I mean, he's one of the worst chase rates
in baseball. He strikes out a ton, he whiffs a lot,
but man, when he pulls the ball in the air,
he's gonna hit it for He's gonna hit for home runs,

(31:36):
he's gonna hit for eken.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
He's an absolute burner on the bases.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Uh. And he's a he's an eighties defensive, he's an
eighty glove. So I think have we seen the best
of have we seen the best of him?

Speaker 5 (31:49):
For his entire career?

Speaker 3 (31:51):
I think when we talking about two to three month samples,
I don't want to say that yet. And the reason
I say that is because guys can get you know,
PCA is extremely talented, and guys like that can get
hot for for two to three months, and so no, I.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
Don't I and you know, and he's young, so I
think there's a.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Chance he could he could get back to that, but
it's a really tough thing to do for one hundred
and sixty two games, and I gotta admit I I
was in on it, and I was like, you know what,
no one else has been able to do it, but
dang it, man, Pca is he's going to be able
to do it because he was that he was just
lighting the world on fire. Uh and with all fast,

(32:29):
with all facets of the game, was just dominating. And
now I will say this, even with his struggles, and
even if he does not get back to the point
that he was, that people were talking about him as
a potential you know him and show hey for the
for the n L m VP, which he probably wasn't
really that close, uh, but there there was talk. Even
if he doesn't get back to that, Guys, he's still

(32:50):
a phenomenal defensive center fielder. He's he's going to be
able to steal bases. And yes, the strikeouts and the
chase rates are are scary, uh, but I still think
he provides a lot of value in different parts, in
different in all the different parts of his game to
make him extremely valuable. And he won't be he won't
be this bad forever. He's still he's still really talented.

(33:10):
But and I do think there's going to have to
come a point where, you know, you kind of move
from the I swing at everything because I can hit
everything type of mentality to hey, we get if I'm
gonna put.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
Myself to the next level, I have to change.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
And I don't think that just because this is what
he was doing this season, that he's going to be
this way and that he's gonna be chasing it a
you know, ridiculous forty three to forty five percent clip
the rest of his career. I think he's he's probably
gonna have to sit down and say, hey, how am
I going to maximize in the talent and the tools
that I do have? Uh, And it's probably gonna have

(33:46):
to become with being less aggressive at the play. I
do think he can make those adjustments, but there's no
doubt that. I mean, his month of August has been
just horrific, but he does a lot of other things well.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
To make him to make him really valuable.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
But on the offensive side, it's definitely it's if I'm
been a really rough go to lately. And it's not
a coincidence that PCA and Kyle Tucker have really struggled
recently in the cups have gone straight downhill.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Researcher, Do you guys have any any contentious points in there?
Or are we okay with Will's synopsis on PCA.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
I just want to The only contentious point I have is,
it's like the Tobias Funk meme right where he goes,
you know, well does it work for those people? And
we're talking about the plate approach right with PCA, and
he says, well, does it, well, did it work for
those people? And he says, no, it never does. I mean,
these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might work,
but it might work for PCA.

Speaker 7 (34:38):
And that's not to pick on Will.

Speaker 6 (34:40):
I honestly, I honestly thought that there was a chance
that PCA could also do it. But you know, these
guys that are just swinging sixty percent of the time
and chasing forty percent of the time, it just never works.
So it never works for an extended period of time.
I mean, we saw a hobby bias. He would have
extreme peaks and valleys right and when he was good
with the Cubs. So I just yeah, I just the
PCA thing kind of has shocked me with how much
I knew he was gonna fall off. I justed to

(35:01):
think he's gonna fall off to this point, absolutely true.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
I'll get at that.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
I think, just kind of to piggyback off of what
Rees said, the number one thing that needs to be
said about PCA is that I get so sick of
everybody living. And this is with anything in the modern world,
but PCA is a great iconoclasm of that is. Everything
has to be black and white with people. It's either
PCA is awesome or PCA is trash. It's you can't

(35:29):
ever be PCA is having a bad month, Like who
the same people that are sitting here saying Julio is
awful would have said that what first two months of
the season have missed the last.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
Season just because you wrote him off.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Then baseball players are not machines. We have to remember
that this is a human game. For that reason, when
it's android baseball, I'm gonna stop caring people go through
things and struggle at the plate.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
The real thing with.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
PCA, to kind of bounce back to what Reese is
saying here, is that he's going to now have to
make the adjustment. As Will said, He's going to have
to decide whether he wants to be a situational hitter,
not in the sense of hitting in a various situation,
but he himself choosing what situations to hit it being
more selective at the plate. But the fact that everybody
wants to make this such a black and white he's
bad or he is a thing really disgusts me because

(36:16):
we've seen PCA b an MVP candidate this year, and
if you want to pretend he hasn't, you're just lying
to yourself. Is he going to be that long term?
Probably not, maybe never again. But to say he's a
bad player is just kidding yourself. That's all I have
to say.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
I agree with all three of you, smart fellas, and
we are going to jump over to some p Live
news now. Thank you guys so much for a great
little roundtable discussion about a bunch of different things within
the baseball world, and we'll be back on the other
side of this break.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
I used to be brash, I used to be lived
off Rhythm Road.

Speaker 6 (36:54):
And you will notice we are without Drew Wheeler, and
Drew Wheeler had to go be a good husband. And
we're gonna talk about what was going on over Prospects Live.
Prospects Live. We have a lot of really good stuff,
the analyzing every trade moved, trade player moved at the
twenty twenty five deadline. Will Thompson and I co wrote
that it was a behemoth. We had the Daily Sheets
going out, the Dynasty Baseball pickup. Guys have stuff going on.
We have the Dynasty Diplomas. We have Tom's three Up,

(37:16):
three Down series. I believe by the time this is posted,
you will see my live looks on me seeing prospects
in the Inland Empire. I have some thoughts on Angels
prospects not good shout out Spencer Jones. Drew said that
he wanted someone to do that. I know, Will, you
were supposed to, but I'm gonna get out in front
of that. We had the Dynasty Baseball podcast going going strong,
Will Nate, Do you guys have anything on coming out tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Will? Do you have anything coming out tomorrow? I don't
think coming out tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (37:43):
I mean check out MLB Daily Sheet. I mean now
it's now, that's.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Going to be well.

Speaker 5 (37:49):
I'll be on next Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Plenty of MLB Daily Sheet and Triple A and to
hear lots of my thoughts almost gone in the big
leagues and on the Friday night games in Triple A,
which I always I I always love I always love
mixing in the mixing and the Triple A in there,
because you can't always do Major leagu baseball and you
get bored, so you got to switch to the minor
leagues at some point.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I want to play a game with Will. So Prospects
Live costs five dollars a month to subscribe to. What
else could you buy with five dollars? Will?

Speaker 3 (38:17):
What else can you buy with five dollars?

Speaker 5 (38:22):
You could buy a and could buy.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
A snap crap from McDonald's and a medium drink.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
I think I bought a huge bag of baby carrots
the other day for five dollars. I don't like vegetables.
I do like Prospects Live, though, So this is me
telling you to go subscribe to Prospects Live. Obviously, this
podcast is free and we love it that way. But
guys like me, Will and Reese and Drew we write
some pretty cool things too over on the website.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
And with that, Drew, what is on your mind?

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (38:57):
I want to talk about chewing gum flavors because that
was the top a sign to me. You don't need
to know about that though, guys, really quickly talking about
chewing gum, I think everybody's mind originally was gonna go
to like mint, peppermint, spearmint, and those are great, obviously
you want to freshen.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
The mouth up.

Speaker 5 (39:13):
I like doing that, but I had some.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Weird flavors that I liked as well. I did want
to call out too. In particular, I really like my
wife really likes winter excuse me, polar ice extra she
really likes, so obviously I like the taste of that
because she's shoot it forever. And then really random gum.
My question to you guys is have you ever tried
tried and splash? So obviously those are like hard shell

(39:37):
pieces of gum that when you bite into it, like
little burst of flavor comes out as well. It's almost
like a gusher but gum. But it's strawberry with lime,
and I know what you're thinking, gross strawberry flavored gum.
It wasn't the best for keeping your breath fresh, but
it did taste good. So maybe that's just me being
chunky saying that. But this is my what's on my mind,

(39:59):
not yours. So will what's the weirdest flavor of gum you.

Speaker 5 (40:02):
Like weirdest flavor of gum.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
I like, I don't know if I like a lot
of it is green apple, like a weird one.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
I think that sounds like and fresh like.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
I kind of like that, So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
I'm not sure if that falls in the weird category,
but I do kind of like, you know, I always
sampled all the big league jew flavors, you.

Speaker 5 (40:23):
Know, as kids do.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
I mean, they aren't great, but I think green Apple
I honestly kind of like, so I.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Get that applies.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
I get the wy there Nate best flavor of gum.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
I've always been a mint guy. What do I have here?
This is the only gum I chew. It's polar Ie extra.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Melory likes that. That's Mallory's favorite.

Speaker 7 (40:46):
I do best gum flavor go, I actually have it
right here.

Speaker 6 (40:49):
Also, did you know you have to be thirteen years
old to go on a gum website? I thought it
was like Anyways, I was still looking up the flavors
of Trident because Triden is the best. I'm a big
trying mint bliss. That's my flavor of so tried once
to sponsor me.

Speaker 7 (41:02):
I don't like that.

Speaker 6 (41:04):
I don't like I don't like big lead chew, and
I don't like the ones that scored out it. You
had not a big fan of that, not a big
I'm not a big fan of like having to like
endure that sort of temper or that sort of torture.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
Uh yeah, I get it, and good good flavors. I
need to try yours, Nitt Bliss and Nate, thanks for
the suggestion and thanks for asking what's on my mindrees?

Speaker 6 (41:25):
All right, fellas, we're jumping into the big heavy hitter.
We're doing the draft, obviously some sort of draft, and
it feels like that's my topic. I've been watching a
lot of American Dad lately, So we are going to
do the adult TV show character cartoon cartoon character draft.
You can draft any cartoon character as long as they
are an adult show. We're not drafting Bluey or anything
like that unless you want to. I'm I'm open to whatever.

(41:46):
I'm a very open guy on a lot of things.
So what is the order we want to do?

Speaker 1 (41:53):
That's a great question. I can't wait for this draft though,
As I say, I'm.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
Excited for the draft.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Should we let we'll go first since he's our guest,
or will where do you prefer to be in the well.

Speaker 7 (42:01):
Do you want to go first or do you want
to be at the end?

Speaker 5 (42:05):
Hmm, I will no, I'll go at the end. I'll
be four.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
I'll take the I'll take the I'll take the because
we're snakeing, so I'll take four or five. I I
like my I like my I like my death guys
on my board.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Okay? Uh, Nate, Reese, which one of your birthdays is
closer to Neil?

Speaker 1 (42:26):
My birthday is exactly a month from your day.

Speaker 7 (42:29):
Is my birthdays in January?

Speaker 2 (42:31):
Okay? So then, Nate, you choose what spot you want next, one, two,
or three. I will go to Reese one or three.

Speaker 7 (42:40):
I'll go one.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
Okay, Reese? Oh good job.

Speaker 2 (42:44):
Whoever's typic?

Speaker 4 (42:45):
All right, Reese? So you go one. I'm curious where
you go here.

Speaker 6 (42:48):
I'm going with Eric Cartman, absolute icon, the single best
character in all of television. I don't think it's particularly close.
We're talking about a generational talent here. Here's someone else
wants to type that.

Speaker 7 (43:00):
That's fine. I want thank you, that's cool.

Speaker 6 (43:04):
I'm glad that also it got something consternation from my
fellow drafters.

Speaker 7 (43:08):
That's how you know, you're done at the job.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
I can't.

Speaker 5 (43:10):
I thought he's gonna be there afore terrible.

Speaker 1 (43:12):
He wasn't.

Speaker 7 (43:13):
He was not making it before. He's one or two,
And I think I.

Speaker 1 (43:16):
Think I should have taked, I should have got I
should have gone first. I should have gone first, because.

Speaker 7 (43:21):
I was sitting here like I'd really like to go first.
I don't want to say anything. I was like, sometimes
you gotta play coy in.

Speaker 5 (43:25):
The that's an old time fumble may right there.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
You know what. I'm gonna go by the people that
I like the most. This list is not gonna play
well in a graphic. We will be releasing a graphic
for this one. I'm going Brian Griffin too.

Speaker 7 (43:38):
Oh man, I love kidding me right now.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
I love see it. I think that's the I laughed
more at Cartman and I watched Out Park more.

Speaker 7 (43:48):
But Brian Griffin, I have a question.

Speaker 6 (43:49):
I have a question before we begin, can I continue
to draft South Park characters or now, because honestly, I
would like to go.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
So are you saying like one per show? Is that
gonna be a thing.

Speaker 5 (43:57):
We didn't.

Speaker 6 (43:58):
We didn't talk about this beforehand, so it doesn't. We
don't have to do it one per show. If we
don't want to, I just I just think we should, Okay.

Speaker 7 (44:03):
Cool.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
I want to make sure that if Nate wants to
draft only Family Guy characters and lose a draft, that's fine.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
I will not be Okay, that got okay, as long.

Speaker 5 (44:12):
As you don't draft all from one. I think, like,
if I think you should have like the.

Speaker 7 (44:17):
Okay, yeah, we can do that.

Speaker 4 (44:19):
Okay. I'm gonna take my one of my favorite characters.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
You guys have seen the thing on social media where
it's like, name four characters that like are most like
you or whatever. This is a guy that's always on there.
It's Bob Belcher, the funniest and sweetest man in animated television,
the best dad in animated television. Fight with somebody else?
Will You're up for two?

Speaker 5 (44:40):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (44:40):
So I think, my my, whatder do I want to
go on?

Speaker 5 (44:44):
You know what, it doesn't matter. I'll just do it
to at the top of my mind. Number fourth overall, pick.

Speaker 3 (44:47):
I'm gonna go Peter Griffin from from Family Guy. He's
just absolutely hilarious, very relatable person. I love when these
adult adult comedy cartoons that just just relatable people, and
you know, Uh, Peter Griffin is one of them.

Speaker 5 (45:02):
So I'm gonna go Peter Griffin and for uh and.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
Then for my fifth pick, I am going to go
with mister Mackie from the South Park because his holton
k is the funniest thing.

Speaker 5 (45:22):
I I actually saw.

Speaker 3 (45:23):
A clip today when I was going on social media
and it was him.

Speaker 5 (45:27):
It was him like yelling.

Speaker 3 (45:28):
At a bunch of school children for doing a play
like about tooth to k and he was quoting the
the Augie Gurrito speech, which we cannot quote un quote
directly on this podcast, but you you definitely if you,
if you really know Ball, you know exactly the speech
I'm talking about, and uh, and he was quoting it
and with putting K in the middle, and it.

Speaker 5 (45:47):
Was so funny.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna pick mister Mackie as my
second pick.

Speaker 4 (45:52):
Great pick, great pick.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
I love that I'm gonna stick in the same show
and get the best character from that show's Butters Stotch,
obviously the best character South Park without a doubt.

Speaker 6 (46:03):
Butter Butters was my was my second options. I got
stuck with two. I was going Butter is at too.

Speaker 2 (46:08):
Yeah, so I'm very pleased with that, Butters is hilarious
and sweet. You'll notice that I I tend to go
with the the sweet characters. Nate, that's you, sir.

Speaker 1 (46:19):
I'm gonna go Rick Rick from Rick and Morty. I
it's one of the few adult cartoons that I actually
like find myself watching and rewatching. So I'm saying true
to myself there, and I think he's the best character
in that show. I could be wrong. I think there's
somebody side characters, but uh yeah, let's go Rick.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
Good pick.

Speaker 4 (46:38):
I like that you're staying true to yourself.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
I chied you for that a lot, and I'm proud
that you're doing it.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
Reese to you for two.

Speaker 7 (46:45):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (46:46):
You know how you mentioned that you went with one
of the best dads in anime television. I'm going with
one of the worst in Homer Simpson. He is a
terrible father and he's, you know, the main character in
an iconic, maybe the most iconic television show ever. The
fact that he's made the second round is wild to me.
And then and then with the third round, I'm going
with Roger from American Dad. Roger is the best character

(47:07):
in American Dad by a lot. I feel like I'm
acing this draft. This is this is fantastic. I'm gonna
ever guy that I want it, except for Butters. Butters
was the only guy that really bothered me that I
didn't get. But you know, sometimes you can't get everyone.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Okay, I'm going off the board again, guys. I'm going.
Bender from Futurama was on my board. I understand Futurama.
That might be my favorite cartoon ever. I watched it
with my brother growing up. I rewatched often. Bender is
absolutely hilarious.

Speaker 6 (47:38):
I hope I don't bring it back. I don't need
to see a rerun of Future.

Speaker 3 (47:41):
No.

Speaker 1 (47:41):
It's so funny. It's so so funny, and like, I
don't know, it feels different than these other shows. Though.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
Guys, I'm at a weird impasse because I have three
names have been taken off my board, two of which
by me. So I feel really really good here. Oh
I do not know where to go at all. I
think I'm gonna stick with another of my favorite characters
and also spread the love to the shows. I'm gonna
go with Bobby Hill, who is probably the best character

(48:11):
from and adult Bobby in the The modernized reboot is
based Bobby's great. So uh, I'm very proud of this.
I also think I am acing this draft.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
Will to you for two buddy, your final two picks.

Speaker 3 (48:25):
All right, I think my first one's gonna be Stewie
My I'm gonna be I'm gonna pick two guys that
are very that are very similar.

Speaker 4 (48:33):
My first pick is cann.

Speaker 3 (48:34):
Be Stewe Griffin because he's he's just hilarious and you know,
just just the whole idea that and that no one
else that no one else can understand him, and just
the funny stuff that he says is just incredible.

Speaker 5 (48:46):
It's it's the one.

Speaker 3 (48:47):
Of the best things in comedy. So I think I
think Stuey Griffin. And then I'm gonna go a little
bit off the board with south Park and a guy
that I absolutely or I shouldn't say a guy because
he's a child, but.

Speaker 5 (49:00):
I love Ike. I love Ike.

Speaker 3 (49:03):
So Ike is one of my favorite side characters. The
fact and shout out to all the Canadians, shout out
to the Canadians that we have at Prospects Live.

Speaker 5 (49:14):
I hope you guys like.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Ike two because the fact that the fact that he's
Canadian and like the just the funny stuff that that
he says and in his little baby voice is hilarious.

Speaker 5 (49:25):
And you know, and all of the all of the.

Speaker 3 (49:27):
Canada episodes with with south Park. I wonder how Canadians
feel about how south Park portrays them.

Speaker 5 (49:33):
I actually, I actually do wonder that.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
I'd like to I'd like to know more about that
because I'm not Canadian. I'd like to know that from
the Canadians. Do you hate South Park because they make
fun of Canada all the time? I wonder why, I wonder,
I wonder if you do or not. So I I
I'm gonna go Stuie and Ike as my as my
last two liked that a what liked.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
That a lot? The children.

Speaker 2 (49:52):
That's a good good call, good call, all right, I'm
going to pitch it to the three of you. Whatever
gets the most votes is what are we gonna go with?
Should I pick a character that I relate to more
or that makes me laugh more?

Speaker 7 (50:03):
Laugh laugh, I'll say laugh all right, So.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
I'm gonna go to the Simpsons. Uh the character if
I had picked the one that I relate to most
Lisa Simpson without a doubt. But since we're gonna pick
the character that makes me laugh, the most. I'm gonna
ask you guys if I can borrow a feeling because
I'm taking his son Milhouse van Houten he who uh
thrill ho if you will.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
Everything's coming up during this draft.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
So I may as well get Millhouse a rounded out.

Speaker 1 (50:33):
Oh, I am going to the world of BoJack Horseman,
the greatest uh cartoon of all time. However, it is
incredibly depressing. I'm going Todd Chavez, who is the funniest
character in that show by far, and real ones understand.
I'm not gonna win this draft on a graphic, but
I took four guys from four shows that I really

(50:55):
do enjoy.

Speaker 6 (50:57):
Reese ring Us Home Buddy, I am going off the board.
I am going with Archer. I'm going with the main character,
Sterling Mallory Archer.

Speaker 7 (51:05):
He is fantastic. He's so funny. Everything that he does
is just the best. Yeah. So Sterling Mallory archered around
out this draft.

Speaker 1 (51:15):
That was a good draft.

Speaker 4 (51:16):
I enjoyed that a lot.

Speaker 6 (51:18):
Okay, so we have time before Drew has to go
solve a problem so that this world deals with what
are your guys's also rans?

Speaker 4 (51:27):
Oh, I've got it.

Speaker 7 (51:28):
I have a slew name off.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
I'll go first, So from The Simpsons, I had Lisa
Simpson of course, Krusty to clown. From South Park, I
had Randy Marsh who is arguably a terrifying omission here. Uh,
from Bob's Burger's, which is my favorite show, Tina Belcher
and regular size Rudy. And then from a show that
doesn't get nearly enough Love Big Mouth, which is hysterical

(51:51):
and I'll fight anybody that says it's grosser stupid.

Speaker 4 (51:53):
You're gross and stupid.

Speaker 5 (51:55):
Mariy the Orlone Mobster is fabulous.

Speaker 4 (51:58):
So there you go.

Speaker 7 (52:00):
Eight who are uh.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
Doctor Zoidberg from Futurama I like, I like the noise
he makes a boo from The Simpsons is almost my
fourth round pick. And then Patrick from SpongeBob. I know
it's not an adult cartoon, but it's kind of an
adult cartoon.

Speaker 7 (52:16):
I touched it on adult topics.

Speaker 3 (52:18):
Yeah, yeah, I think I think a lot of the
SpongeBob characters would would would crack that would crack that
list for me. I think Randy Marsh and Randy Marsh
is is such a good one for for for South
Park as well.

Speaker 5 (52:32):
And I'm trying to think.

Speaker 3 (52:34):
There's I also kind of I also kind of like
Wendy honestly for south Park. I think she's funny and
like I think the like in like the low key
type of way. And then the Herb song if You
I'm sorry to quote very specific south Park things, but
the Herb Herd try out for the boy band and
her song if if You. If you like south Park

(52:55):
and you don't know what I'm talking about, go look
it up.

Speaker 5 (52:57):
It's one of the best moments on the show.

Speaker 6 (52:59):
I think my Also, RAN's the only guys that was
left on my board was Stan Smith from American Dad.
He's fantastic, and Chef from South Park. I can't believe
that Chef didn't get really good. Chef is really good.
I don't think it is good in the more recent seasons,
but you know, the how he sings of the children
in the first couple of seasons is fantastic. All right,

(53:21):
before Juristic goes solve a world problem, let's let's let's
I'll talk about well, what is on your mind? Because
I'm fascinating. I think Drew wants to be here for
this one.

Speaker 3 (53:31):
Okay, very much so h So, to directly quote the
uh directly quote the prep sheet. My my, what's on
your mind is Farmageddon at the Big Potato. Now, since
my last rants about college football are about college sports
and you know, expanding the expanding the playoffs and all that,

(53:52):
I'm a huge college football guy and coming up very soon,
I believe in I think nine days as a.

Speaker 5 (53:58):
Record, So I'm not exactly what it'll be.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
When you're listening to this, but I absolutely love how
college football has recently started their first game of the
season in Dublin, Ireland. It's produced some fascinating games because
absolutely nobody knows what's going to happen. Florida State went
into Dublin as a top ten team last year. They
won two games and nobody had any idea that they

(54:22):
were horrible, and they lost on a last second field
goal to Georgia Tech, and it was incredible. And the
game this year far Mcgeddon between Kansas State and Iowa
State by far the best game that they have put
out there, I believe. I think Kansas State is number
seventeen in the preseason poll, Iowa State's number twenty one.

Speaker 5 (54:41):
It is a huge.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Big twelve battle and it's a again like the Big
ten in the SEC. They kind of they totally reigned
supreme in college football at this point. But I love
that the two of the more underrated programs from the
Big twelve they're getting the national standalone spotlight and what
is going in which when those two teams get together.
Iowa stayed in KSE State. It is a phenomenal game

(55:03):
every year at the Big Potato in in Dublin, Ireland.

Speaker 5 (55:07):
So I cannot wait for this football game.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
It's basically and you know, the week seriously isn't really
great outside of it, but I cannot wait for that
franked matchup to lead us into what is going to
be an amazing college football season.

Speaker 5 (55:19):
I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
So at the so got to lock into farm again
in case State, Iowa State lock in.

Speaker 5 (55:24):
It's give me a great football.

Speaker 7 (55:25):
I had no idea, this is what you mean. I
thought there was something. I thought this was like something
going on in Idaho. I had no idea. I asked
if it was like some sort of adult thing, you know,
no judgment. We're a positive podcast on this part.

Speaker 6 (55:38):
Yeah, So I'm glad that I'm glad that we found
out with the Farm again that the Big Potato was
because I would have never guessed my love college football
is sort of died down a little bit. I feel like,
as I've you know, done more prospects, live stuff and
baseball stuff in general, I feel like something's had to go,
and college basketball was the first one to go.

Speaker 7 (55:56):
I just don't really care for this is the first I.

Speaker 6 (55:58):
Didn't watch the NCAA tournament and college football has led
ever since. Michigan won the National Championship where they didn't cheat.
By the way, I want people to know that they
didn't seat Connor Stallions as an American hero. All he
was doing was using his stuff that he learned in
the military and translate and translating it to a to
a civilian life. Connor Stallions is wrongly persecuted anyways. That's

(56:18):
that's neither here nor there. Let's round this out, Nate,
what is your least what is your what is your
what's on your mind?

Speaker 1 (56:26):
My mind is what's on my mind? Uh? Me and
Drew gave each other prompts today because we couldn't think
of anything. So d you asked me what my least
favorite movie is, and I've pulled up my letterboxed Okay,
my least favorite movie by rating is the movie Neighbors.
I thought it was a bad movie. That's the the

(56:47):
zac Efron comedy where he lives next to frat house.
I thought that movie was dog. My second least favorite
movie is Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. That one.
That one pissed me off. I'm such a Star Wars guy,
and I thought that that was when everything went very,

(57:08):
very far downhill. I don't know if you guys are
Star Wars people, but Star Wars guy, I think they
just I think they just brutally messed up that movie.
And that was the last in the series, if I
if I remember correctly, so many plot holes throughout that
whole new one. And I don't understand. This is why
you don't make nine movies in a series, because you're
going to create plot holes because you're faking.

Speaker 6 (57:28):
You don't change directors for three movies, three different directors.

Speaker 1 (57:32):
It's really bad. It's really really bad. And then yestra
no no no, I.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Was just I was, I want to hear your third
lowest strength and then we can give them Star Wars
really quickly.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
My third lowest rank is the Chris Pratt Jurassic World.
I thought it was a very bad movie. I like
the old one more so, nothing too exciting on this list.
One movie that I think is bad compared to everything
else in a series is Harry Potter and the Goblet
of Fire. I think that is the worst Harry Potter
movie by far. I think all the other ones are
very good, and I think that one is bad.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
I you you you were gonna go without riling me up,
and then you had to say Harry Potter and the
Goblin of Fires bad. That may be the best Harry
Potter movie.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
You see that. Some people say that and they're wrong,
and that's fine. You're allowed to be wrong.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
You know, everybody has to be wrong every so often.
Maybe this is my time to be wrong. I think
it's more suspect that it's your time to be wrong. Pal,
I just I will say this. So the Star Wars
thing is what I wanted to talk about before. I've
got a split. But I watched the first and second
in the new trilogy, never watched the third, and anybody
I'll tell that two says don't They said, just just don't.

Speaker 1 (58:37):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 7 (58:38):
I think guess right now, I think I should too, reach.

Speaker 4 (58:40):
I think I need to see this through.

Speaker 6 (58:42):
You're not paying to see it, So you guys, you
know issue, I don't want to support Disney legally stream it.

Speaker 7 (58:48):
I actually I wouldn't recommend doing anything like that.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
I for one, support our new mouse Overlords. I'm not
gonna say that, but no, I mean, it's on Disney. Plus,
I can stream it tonight if I felt like it.
I have significantly better things to do to torture myself
with that. But Nate, I also never thought Neighbors looked
funny at all, So hearing you say it was trash
is very validating for me.

Speaker 7 (59:12):
Some of those things doesn't do it for me.

Speaker 6 (59:14):
I just think he's bad, you know, So I think
it's bad. I don't don't like Chris Pratt. That'll be
Chris pat guy, don't. I just don't think any of
his don't think he's good in any of the movies.
He's only good in Parkson.

Speaker 1 (59:25):
Recu Guardians of the Galaxy.

Speaker 4 (59:27):
Guardians is good. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (59:29):
I really like that's one of the That's probably might
be my favorite Marvel. I'm not a huge Marvel guy.
I really like Gardens the Galaxy.

Speaker 6 (59:34):
I love the original Iron Man. I think that's one
of the best superheroes. That's one of the top five
superhero movie obviously, the Dark Knight trilogy, El Goes one, two, three,
and then you know, you play around with whatever you
have any movie takes well before we round out this, you.

Speaker 5 (59:50):
Know, I'm I'm not a huge movie guy.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
I was gonna I was gonna pose a question and ask,
what did did anyone watch Happy Goi Moore Too?

Speaker 5 (59:58):
And what did you think of that?

Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
That trash?

Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
I haven't seen it yet. I want to see it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Though I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:04):
I did too.

Speaker 5 (01:00:05):
I thought it was good.

Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
People who want to like say like, oh it's horrible,
and like, yeah, were there too many? So I could
have gone without without Travis Kelsey in it. But I
do think that I think if you watched the first one,
it makes sense, and if you like the first one,
it makes sense. And if you're going to Netflix first,
since for a cinematic masterpiece, you're going to the wrong spot,
and so you got to know what you're going and

(01:00:28):
what you're what you're getting yourself into. And I think
for I think my expectations were very reasonable for Happy
Gilmore Too, and it was I really enjoyed it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:35):
I had a great time watching O G.

Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
Happy Gilmore is one of the funniest movies of all time,
and I don't think people and it's it's one of
the funniest movies of all time.

Speaker 6 (01:00:42):
That was during that's during the best comedy stretch we've
ever seen with Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler is truly a
one of one.

Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:00:49):
Absolutely, Okay, guys, where can we find you? Where can
we find each other? On social media? You can find
me at Reese White on Twitter and Reese went on
Blue Sky and reestut White on Instagram. Where can they
find you?

Speaker 7 (01:00:59):
Will?

Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
