Speaker 1 (00:19):
Hello, and welcome to Psychic Teachers. I'm your host, Deppo Inn.
Thank you so much to all of you who've written
asking me to do more of these short episodes. One
of you even named these talks Wisdom from deb I
am honored, so please join me as I offer you
(00:39):
some suggestions as to how you can gain clarity about
the universe and your place in the cosmos. Here in
the Northern Hemisphere, spring is bursting out all around us,
watching leaves unfurl and the cord grass in the marsh
turned green. Remind me that once again those wonderful lyrics
(01:02):
from Harry Chapin just resonate in my heart. Here's what
he says. All my life's a circle, but I can't
tell you why. Seasons spinning round again, the years keep
rolling by. It seems like I've been here before, but
I can't remember when. But I have this funny feeling
(01:23):
that we'll all be together again. No straight lines make
up my life, and all my roads have beens. There's
no clear cut beginnings and so far no dead ends.
There are no deadians, just an ever spinning circle of wonder,
(01:43):
of which each of us is an integral part. So
as we spend from equinox through the holidays, and so
many world traditions towards the coming of summer. We honor
the continuity of life around us. One of the ways
in which we can honor life is to remember that
April is Earth Month, although I think every month should
(02:06):
be Earth Month, and April twenty second is Earth Day.
I remember where I was on that first Earth Day
in nineteen seventy, picnicking on the campus lawn, listening to music,
believing we could save the planet. I still believe we
can save the planet. And I believe every single act
(02:27):
of connection to the world around us and to spirit
increases the likelihood that all will be well. My lovely
friend Anna randomly passes out cards that say you matter.
I keep giving away the ones she gives me, and
she keeps giving me more. She believes I matter. I
(02:49):
believe you matter. I believe we all matter. I believe
Mother Earth matters, and that all her beings matter. So
here's a part list of what I've been doing in
the past few weeks in sort of random order. I
share this list with you to remind you of what
you can do to me be more deeply connected to
(03:12):
Mother Earth. More deeply connected to the circle that is us,
all of us. So here's what I've been trying to do.
Breathe long, slow, deep breaths, Send up prayers of gratitude,
send up prayers for others, Sit quietly, and of course meditate, read, write, walk,
(03:38):
plant vegetables, herbs, flowers. Talk to the animal people with
whom you share your world. Here's a list of some
of the folks I've talked to in this past week. Squirrels, doves, mockingbirds,
blue jays, cardinals, hawks, seagulls, great blue herons, urns, ospreys, pelicans, cormorants, blackbirds, grackles, crows, dolphin, crab, periwinkles, coyote, raccoons, opossum,
(04:08):
deer fish, I can't see, and more. Talk to the
plant people with whom you share your world. And here's
a list of some of the folks I've talked to
this week. Water oaks, live oaks, cedars, grass, dandelions, sea oaks,
passion flower, pennywart, evening primrose, golden rod, butterfly, pea, virginia creeper, catbriar,
(04:33):
marsh elder, wax, myrtle, yo pond, galadaria, tomato, basils, lettuce, petunias, pansies, azaleas, oleander,
and many more I can't even name. The point here
is to pay attention, to be aware of that connection.
Clean your yard, but not too much, because the bees
(04:55):
and other people still need the Fallen Duff write letters,
old fashioned letters, send text, but actually speak to friends
and family, Listen to music, learn something new, teach someone something,
try new recipes, Eat more healthily than we did last month,
(05:18):
Shop locally with merchants whose names you know and who
know your name. I hope that whatever you're doing, out
of this list or more, brings you peace and comfort.
I hope that whatever you're doing brings you an opportunity
to assess what really matters, what you value. I hope
what you're doing helps you make decisions about how you
(05:40):
live and grow and learn and share in the world.
Much has changed, of course, over these fifty five years
since that first Earth Day, and there have been both
devastating environmental travesties and great strides forward. I'm reminded of
two bumper stickers from those are days. One says live
(06:02):
simply so that others may simply live, and the other says,
think globally act locally. Poet Lawrence Furlngetti wrote, I am
perpetually and forever awaiting a renaissance of wonder. I believe
in that renaissance of wonder deeply, and I know that
(06:26):
there are guideposts that offer me guidance. I've written a
litany that I hope might be helpful to you, to
help you remember your place in the cosmos and how
best to connect to the world around you. So here
it is. I am closest to the divine as I
too stand in balance for just a moment, as Mother
(06:49):
Earth spins in perfect balance, as Father's son crosses the
equator at the equinox. I am closest to the divine
when I stand on the ocean's shore and watch the
full moon rise from the sea, a sparkling, diamond studded
moment that takes my breath away. I am closest to
(07:11):
the divine when I place my hand on a flowering tree,
feeling the living energy of Mother Earth pulse beneath my fingers,
and I am showered with petals blowing like snow in
a stoff spring breeze. I am closest to the divine
when I breathe in the fragrance of smoke as it
(07:31):
billows from my colk shell and circle with my friends,
invoking the divine to cleanse us of negativity and bless
us with the gift of love. I am closest to
the Divine when I like candles on my altar to
honor the fire that burns brightly within every being on
(07:52):
this planet and beyond. I am closest to the Divine
when I celebrate Spring Holidays with my Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu,
Lakota and Pagan friends, as we honor their respective rituals.
So many more cultures and beliefs honor the changing season
(08:15):
during this time of the year. This is a holy time,
a time that reminds us to pay attention. Pay attention
to every passing moment, every flitting bird, every bud bursting forth.
It is a time of quickening in the northern hemisphere
and a time of resting in the southern. Ever and ever,
(08:37):
the wheel spends, and the cycles begin again, and the
circle's turn and life is reborn. And so am I,
and so are you. All our lives really are a circle.
