(00:00-25:59) – Query & Company opens on a Monday with Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison declaring Indiana the sports capital of the world with how successful of its teams are right now. They touch on the Colts improving to 6-1, the Hoosiers remaining undefeated, and send their thoughts to Indiana State’s men’s basketball coach Matthew Graves.

(25:59-41:23) – The voice of IU football (and basketball), Don Fischer, makes his weekly visit on Query & Company to recap another dominating win for Indiana. Don compares what he has seen from IU this season to what Ohio State, Michigan, and Alabama have done in the last ten years to their opponents. Don comments on the energy and confidence that Fernando Mendoza brings to the Hoosiers offense compared to Kurtis Rourke from a season ago.

(41:23-45:42) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake reading some of the tweets he got from Colts fans yesterday following the win over the Chargers!

(45:42-1:10:53) – The Dean, Mike Chappell, from CBS4 and FOX59 joins the show to share his thoughts on the Indianapolis Colts improving to 6-1 after yesterday’s win over the Chargers. He believes that the team needs to make a trade for a corner before pass rusher, doesn’t have a preference to acquiring a player that is a rental or has multiple years left on his contract, and highlights the one thing he has a hard time believing if the Colts make it in the playoffs.

(1:10:53-1:24:58) – The South Bend Tribune’s Tom Noie joins the program to discuss what he has seen from afar from IU compared to last season when Notre Dame ended the Hoosiers season. Tom evaluates how CJ Carr has performed this season, believes that Alabama is flying underneath the radar as a CFP contender, has a feeling that Notre Dame will be hosting another first round CFP game like last season, and accesses the future of Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame.

(1:24:58-1:29:44) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake asking Eddie how his vacation down in Florida went last week. Plus, they take roll call.

(1:29:44-1:55:11) – The final hour of the show kicks off with Eddie replaying the highlights and comments from yesterday’s offensive clinic by the Indianapolis Colts in their win over the Chargers. Jake follows it up by listing, and explaining, the three big takeaways from the weekend in the best sports state in the country. He states that this Colts team is starting to embody what the state of Indiana is.

(1:55:11-2:07:44) – Jake and Eddie read off some of the replies that Jake got on his tweet asking people for their thoughts on the Colts through seven weeks of the season. Plus, Eddie asks Jake some questions about the Colts.

(2:07:44-2:12:44) – Today’s show closes out with Jake being joined by JMV in studio to discuss what move the Colts need to make, how many seasons would it take for IU to transform from a basketball to football school, and previews his show!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Querry in company. I'm going to be keeping you
company for the next few hours. You are not going
to believe the company, this company.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
You're going to bankrupt your mama's company. At least I
have the radio to keep me company.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
On ninety three to five and one oh seven five
the fan.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Jones out of the gun, Goulden motion of the right side,
fall between the hash marks. Now Goulden motion back to
the left side. Shotgun snap and Jones throws up. Feel caught,
Mike col Pittman touchdown Man Jones out of the gun
and it's a mere Abdullah into the game.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
As the running back right of Jones.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Shotgun snap for the quarterback good protection, fires to the
end zone.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Tyler Award touchdown. I indeed why.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Backing to throw As Herbert looks to his right scanning pump.
Fix grows back to the right and it's tipped up
into the air and I think intercepted.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
By the Pultz. Hey Grover score, hows it, big man,
go kick the ball.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Groper.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
It was unbelievable. He got the tip and the pig man.
It was awesome to see. I mean, those guys work
so hard. Grover has been a Staple here at this
organization for a long time. You can always count on him,
always stress on him.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
To, you know, make a play. Up front.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Herbert goes out of the gun three receiver stack left.
Herbert looks that way, initially scanning over to his right,
throws and the.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
End zone picked up.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Nick Cross took it away from the receiver high snapped
for Jones, but he pulls it down get to the
Taylor marching two is right. He's at the fucking punch
down Detroit picked again for Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
He's the best back in the league right now, There's
no doubt, and I think it starts with our guys
up front. He's running hard, he's running physical, he's got
great vision. Yeah, he's he's bawling out right now.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
When you come to playoffs, it's going to be a
four quarter match, similar to how it was today. We're
going to fight, scratching claw until that clock's straight zero.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So that's how it sounded yesterday. Matt Taylor, Charles Arbuckle,
Colts Radio Network, Shane Stike, and you heard from Jonathan
Taylor as well. No relation to Matt as the Indianapolis
Colts believe it right now, I said this last week,
but believe this. Right now, if you are driving, I'm

(02:05):
going to ask that you not do what I'm about
to say because I need your hands at ten and two.
If you are at work, it is okay. If you
are at home or work from home, it's okay to
do what I'm about to say. But reach over right now,
whether you're right or left handed, to your opposite arm,

(02:26):
and just twice pinch yourself because right now, on this
the twentieth of October, in twenty twenty five, right now,
you in Marion County, Indianapolis, Indiana, You in Johnson County, Indiana,
You in Boone County, you in Hendrix County, Hancock County,

(02:51):
Hamilton County. Wherever it may be that you are listening
to my voice, you are either physically speaking or by
means of hearing my voice, you are indirectly connected with
the absolute epicenter of all that is the best in
sport in the United States of America right now in October,

(03:13):
the number one college basketball team in the land, right
here in this area, the Pretty Boilermakers, the number one
WNBA magnetized Star, magnet star in the WNBA, stirring the
drink that is the WNBA rise is Caitlin Clark of
the Indiana Fever. The number one team ragining right now

(03:35):
as the champions of the Eastern Conference in the National
Basketball Association. The Indiana Pacers the number one team, and yes,
I know they're not ranked number one, but the college
football team with the most impressive win in college football
this year, that's ranked number two in the country. And
I believe right now, I do believe this. I'm not

(03:57):
just saying it in bias. I do believe this. Indiana
University is the best team in college football right now.
Prove me wrong. Ohio State's tremendous, I get it. But
in terms a body of work and resume, if this
were the NCAA Tournament in basketball, Indiana would be the
number one overall seed because they have the best win

(04:19):
so far in college football and they continue to just
they have the best player in college football. The Heisman
Trophy may well go through Bloomington, and of course it
goes without saying and who didn't know this was going
to happen. The best coach right now in the NFL

(04:40):
that may be the front runner for Coach of the
Year is Shane Steiken of the Indianapolis Colts. The best
running back in the NFL right now that may be
offensive player of the year is Jonathan Taylor of the
Indianapolis Colts. The best rookie in the NFL right now
is Tyler Warren, who may be the rookie of the
Year for the Indianapolis Colts and the comeback player of
the year, as well as perhaps the most valuable player

(05:03):
in the NFL. If it's not Jonathan Taylor, on the
ladder of that is Daniel Jones of the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts are now not only the best record in
the AFC, they are in the absolute driver's seat within
their own division, and yesterday coming up with a clinic
and a master performance against the Chargers. Now, there is

(05:26):
one area that we will not nitpick but simply point
out in the sake of fairness and accuracy and totality
of the story, that is of moderate concern for the
Colts that needs to be addressed. But before we get
to all of that, two things. Number One, do that

(05:50):
double pinch to pinch yourself over the fact that you
right now, if you are in Indianapolis, if you are
in Indiana or if you're listening to my voice because
you feel a connection to those plays and to where
we're sitting right now than you are part of right now,
the epicenter of sport. Tell me a sports radio market
right now in the United States that has more elite

(06:11):
level play and or teams to talk about than we
do right here in Indianapolis. And it's a privilege to
be able to do it over the course of today.
In addition to that, while you're doing your double pinch,
do me a favor and think a good thought for
one of the real good guys when it comes to
Indiana sports, one of the really good people, and somebody

(06:33):
who comes from a family that has had tons of
contribution to sport in Indiana. Best thoughts, best thoughts. And
what I think is somebody said to me today, you know,
this is a sad story. And I said, no, no, no,
not a sad story. This is a good story. It's
a good story. Matthew Graves, the head basketball coach at

(06:54):
Indiana State, who of course native of Indiana and has
coached for a number of years now in his second
season with the Sycamores. The announcement this morning from Indiana
State Basketball that Matthew Graves was feeling tightness in his chest,
went to Union Hospital in Terre Haute. They determined that
he needed triple bypass surgery and it said which would

(07:16):
take place this Monday morning. I assume that means this
morning as opposed to next Monday. That announcement coming today.
But either way, that means that Mark Slessinger will fill
in as the interim head coach for the Sycamores. That
is of course secondary to the health and the progress
moving forward for Matthew Graves. But the good news in

(07:38):
this is that they caught this early. He was in
good spirits. He went in and we wish him the
very best, not just in that procedure but also in
his recovery. So for Matthew Graves, the best of luck
and a tip of the cap to it. But let's
get back to yesterday, the Colts and the Chargers. Eddie
Garrison is back in the mix here from his vacation.

(08:05):
That means that you are saying, calla lily.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
You got to be background, right.

Speaker 7 (08:09):
Oh no, that's you celebrating, Jake. I knew you woke
up this morning and you just had a different pep
in your step because you knew that Eddie Garrison.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Was back in the saddle. Did you miss me?

Speaker 7 (08:20):
I know, Corbin probably did a good job, but it was.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
It was Thursday before I realized you were gone. To
be honest, I doubt it. It was probably three minutes
into the show on Monday. Where did you go for vacation? Florida?
Where in Florida? A city? Did you get me?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Their?

Speaker 1 (08:33):
You sun burnt? No? I am not sunburned. How was
the weather, oh, Jake, it was perfect? Was it really?
Low eighties?

Speaker 7 (08:41):
A slight breeze every day?

Speaker 8 (08:42):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (08:43):
It was just absolutely glorious. And you drove right, drove yes? Okay,
we left uh seven am last Saturday, got there at
eight o'clock local time.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
That's not bad. Thirteen hours not bad. You must have
been in the Panhandle. You are correct? Okay, you know.
I don't know if you know this or not, but
it's fun anytime you meet somebody from a different state
to say, now, is that near the Panhandle?

Speaker 7 (09:06):
And then we left, let's see eight am Eastern. We
got back about nine thirty Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Do you know the only state with multiple panhandles? Colts
won yesterday?

Speaker 8 (09:18):
Right?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
They did? West Virginia the only state with multiple panhandles.
So look there. You can look at yesterday's Colts game
one of two ways, and there might be truth in both.
There may be truth in the fact that what you're
seeing right now is a franchise in the Colts where

(09:43):
it's all come together and you can't even say, hey,
it's all come together just because they are healthy, No,
because they're not. Their defensive backfield is continues to be
an area a big question, you know, Mooney Ward. Now
we now know over the course of the weekend. Everybody
knows this by now going on the IR he's out

(10:04):
at least four games. Yes, they are eventually get to
get some players back, Jalen Jones being a big one
in that regard. But they yesterday think about the plays
that they got. You know, as I was watching that game,

(10:25):
there was a play that happened and I instantly rewound
and I watched it again, and I thought to myself
that right there, that right there is the most symbolic
play of so far this cold season. And there's still

(10:48):
plenty of football to play. Although I gotta admit, when
you look at it, you're like, okay, wait a minute,
tennessee at home two touchdown favorites already, and then you
go to Pittsburgh fourteen and a half points, and then
you go overseas and you take on Atlanta. I mean,
at the very least two of those three are extremely

(11:08):
manageable heading into the buy yep, And I would say
all three are. But nonetheless, I'm watching the game and
a play happens, and I thought to myself, this play,
this moment, this illustration perfectly symbolizes the Colts to this point.

(11:31):
And by that I mean Justin Herbert, who I think
the world of. I think he's a very good quarterback.
He's mobile, he's got a big arm, he could extend plays.
I think the world Justin Herbert, and Justin Herbert literally
had paper mache protecting him yesterday, and it was almost
like paper mache that that had gotten wet, which actually

(11:52):
I guess wet paper mache probably is is harder to
break through. But nonetheless, I digress. Herbert throws to the
end zone. Doesn't mean it's Hotpodgs then, yes, like literally,
their offensive line is as depleted an organization and a
unit as there is anywhere for any team in the NFL.
But Herbert drops back, he throws into the end zone

(12:15):
and it looks for sure like a touchdown, and you
think to yourself, the football in the NFL is a
game of inches. The Colts are probably eighteen inches from undefeated,
because if Ady Mitchell goes another foot and a half

(12:37):
before he drops the football, they're unbeaten. Right then again,
they are just inches from that not being the case
because Denver gets that leverage call where the guy jumps
just high enough where they decide to throw a flag.
It's a game of inches. But in this particular situation,
justin Herbert throws to the end zone and it looks

(12:59):
like a sure touchdown. But Nick Cross. Nick Cross a
player that was drafted to the Colts based on athleticism,
and there was some question whether or not they reached
on drafting him when they did, but the Colts said,
we are confident he can grow into the position. Yes,

(13:20):
we had a player in what was his name, e J.
Green out of Clemson that we drafted to be a
safety based on athleticism, and it never panned out and
it washed out and sometimes you get burnt by that.
But in this situation, we're going to try it again
because we believe this guy can grow into a player
if he can just learn instinct and feel he has range.

(13:43):
And so here he is as the ball is sailing
towards the end zone and they're testing the player that
initially was a thought to be reach potential guy for
the Colts, and it looks like a sure touchdown for
the Los Angeless Chargers. But then Nick Cross makes one

(14:04):
slight tweak of his body. He makes one slight turn
to his left, and before you know it, just as
you realize that that one little tweak is taking place,
the ball falls right into his lap. He made a
heck of a play, a one arm grabbed essentially, but
it was a takeaway. It denies a touchdown, and it's

(14:29):
a key pivotal play for the Colts amongst a handful
of those they had yesterday. But it perfectly symbolized where
the Colts are right now because we all assumed, we
all assumed when the Colts got Daniel Jones that they
were that was a reach. There was no way this
guy was going to be able to play. We all

(14:50):
assumed when Chris Ballard, and give him credit, said I'm
trying to build depth in my trenches, say on the
offensive line and I thin feel like we have weapons
that we can move the ball around. And look, I
know you guys all want to sit here and ask
me about Anthony Richardson, but there are other players on
the roster. We all assumed when that was the case,

(15:13):
that those were all a reach, that that was all
a project. And yet the Colts going into this season
made one tweak. Essentially, they made one little turn, and
that turn was deciding to challenge their young quarterback by
seeing what they had out of a veteran quarterback. And

(15:33):
we will never know because we'll never get the truth
out of it. We'll never know whether they signed Daniel
Jones because they said to themselves, this guy's MVP level
and he's been on a place that has wasted him,
or if they said, we got to get somebody in
here that can push Anthony Richardson and give him a
wake up call, so we'll do this guy, and then
it turned out for them. We'll never know if it
was serendipitous or fortuitous. We don't know, but we don't

(15:56):
care because Daniel Jones is playing at right now. He
was the one tweak, the one adjustment that all of
a sudden, now this dream season has fallen right there
and you look down and you're like, oh my gosh,
the ball's right here in my lap. And I just
made an unbelievable one handed grab and completed this play.

(16:17):
And that's where they are right now.

Speaker 9 (16:19):
Now.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Tyler Warren has a lot to do with it as well,
and he is going to be the most valuable or
excuse me, the rookie of the year offensively in the
NFL because he changes everything that they do. He changes
everything that they do. But the Colts, believe it or not.
Six and one, and Eddie, when you look at it
and you look at the AFC, now, the one thing

(16:39):
that is of concern. I said, if there's one thing
that's of concern, it's this. If I were to ask you, Eddie,
who you assume, once at all balances out and once
we've seen the you know, everything, in terms of the
rest of the conference in seventeen games, who would you

(17:03):
assume are the teams that the Colts are going to
have to go through or that are going to have
to come through Indianapolis in order to get to the super.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
Bowl, potentially Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
That would be one.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
And I either one of the Denver Broncos or the
LA Chargers again, Okay, I have to face them. Probably
depending on how things shake up in the AFC East,
it could be Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Okay, Buffalo, I think is this is the fair pick here, right,
assuming everything stays healthy or New England depends. But the
one area of concern would be this and and I'm
literally I'm dropping one little sprinkle of a pepper in here.
Otherwise in a fabulous meal. The one area of concern
would be if those two quarterbacks, if it comes down

(17:48):
to it, where you've had this incredible season and they
stay the Colts, assuming they stay healthy and they're on
the same trajectory, they absolutely need to make certain to
put themselves in position in the postseason. There are two
quarterbacks that are there, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. I
think we can safely say Cincinnati now probably without Burrow.

(18:11):
I mean, even if Burrow comes back, if they catch heat.
But we're gonna take Burrow out of the equation and
what And that's dangerous to do, I realize. But Allen
and Mahomes, those are two guys that typically a late
playoff game comes down to a drive or two and

(18:32):
you got to get a stop, and you got to
get a stop. And even if you're at home, even
with that Colts offense, which is listen, the way that
Colts offense is humming, then it's gonna take a an
offense with a big armed, rhythm quarterback to knock them off. Okay,
And with that said, there are two offenses in those

(18:58):
two that you have to get pressure on them in
a late drive situation and just get one or two
stops or one or two rushes, because those guys, if
they have any time whatsoever, will carve you apart when
it matters most. And the one area right now that
is a kryptonite for the Colts is they are not
able to get that pressure when it matters most. Leatu Latu,

(19:22):
who is one of the guys, DeForest Buckner build a statue.
Forest Buckner has been a leader. He's been all the
terms you want to use, all of them. That guy
is worth now. Granted when they traded for him, that
is a draft pick they could have used to say,
take Justin Herbert, but that's panned itself out now because

(19:43):
they have themselves a quarterback. DeForest Buckner is a man.
DeForest Buckner is a leader. He is a defensive stud
He's all of it. I'm here for DeForest Buckner build
the statue, but he can't do it by himself. And
you have repeatedly gone back to the roulette wheel to
try to get yourself pass rush and Lee Latu and
I realized the jury is still out, and I realize

(20:04):
he's still young. But what I do and I realized
yesterday he got I think too, you know, two rushers
of the quarterback. But when it came down to it
and you needed stops and you needed a drive at
the end of that game just to keep it at
bay Leatu, Latu was on the sideline and had to
come out of the game because and and hit the

(20:27):
oxygen because he wore himself out. Now again young player,
jury still out. But that is the guy that remember
he was the best defensive player in the draft. He
fell to the Colts. He was the number one defensive player.
He was the best pass rusher, et cetera. That has
to get going and they need it now because it

(20:47):
literally is the one missing piece. But I don't want
to sit here and dwell on say the negative over
and over and over on it. But it is something
that we are going to talk a lot about over
the next two weeks. Because the trade deadline coming two
weeks from tomorrow, it would be assumed that the cults
are going to have to make some move to get
some help in that pass rush. And I know that
that's hard to do because that would be admitting fault

(21:10):
in an area that you have invested heavily in terms
of your scouting. You're drafting your building. But the other
area where you already admitted fault and waved the white
flag was quarterback and look what it did for you.
Look what it did for you. And kudos in credit
to Ballard Stike in all of it for saying, you

(21:31):
know what, we're gonna give this a fair shake. And
that's where they are. And then the other thing that
happened over the weekend. I'm telling you right now, and
it's not just because I find Ohio State laborious. I
know Ohio State is fabulous. You would be a fool

(21:54):
to think that Ohio State has even begun to take
their foot off of the accelerator, or excuse me to
put their foot down on the accelerator. I'm in Ohio State.
I think at this point we know that Ohio State
in postseason football and playoff. You know, they can flip
a switch and go I get it, and they are
loaded every position. And Ryan Day is a tremendous football

(22:17):
coach and Ohio State. I'm not here to argue in
any way, shape or form the number one ranking of
Ohio State, but in terms of totality, in terms of
resume to this point, the most impressive win and then
turning around and backing it up, the Indiana Fight and
Hoosiers are the best team in college football right now
in terms of those things and what Indiana does, which

(22:40):
to me is so impressive. Teams that aren't used to success,
teams that aren't used to success, typically when they get it,
they squander it and their focus goes away. And this

(23:00):
team literally in every single aspect of from the pregame
to the end of the game to the post game,
Indiana is so locked in. And it obviously it goes
back to Kurt Signetti. I mean see you see him
on the sidelines in his pregame interviews. Well, we just
got to go out there and we got execute, not

(23:21):
make mistakes, make sure they do make mistakes, take advantage
of their mistakes. I mean just it's like a robot.

Speaker 7 (23:26):
It was every cliche that you could possibly have.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
But it's the best because that's exactly what they do.
If you go in to take on Indiana and you're
waiting for Indiana to make a mistake, you're gonna be
waiting a long time because they go out and they
simply now they I mean literally, you want to talk
about foot and accelerator. Theirs is down all the time,

(23:51):
fourth and four going for a touchdown, fourth and goal
from the four with eleven minutes to go up twenty five. Yeah,
I mean, you probably could have kicked a field goal there, right,
and you throw that, you throw almost perfect pass and
in perfect play, but you know William's foot half a
foot is out of bounds. But they just Indiana with

(24:11):
their precision, their their attention to detail. They go out
and they literally and Mendoza is playing. I mean right now,
he is the Heisman front runner. He represents everything that
has gone right for Indiana, and there's a ton that
goes into it. In terms of this Indiana turnaround. Somebody

(24:34):
asked me today which is a bigger surprise Colts leading
the AFC or Indiana second in the country, and the
answer is it's the Colts because Indiana was just playing
in the playoffs ten months ago, so you knew the
foundation was there and we can now say it literally is.
And the other thing about Indiana that is remarkable they're

(24:55):
doing this with players that were not elite five star
a cap dance twenty four to seven on ESPN under
Armour All American Game College Announcement recruits. And will they
be able to sustain it once those guys inevitably because
Indiana is now on that Mount Rushmore, once those guys
start coming, does Indiana sustain this or is Indiana winning

(25:19):
because they have guys that buy into that focus of
we've been overlooked for a while, but now look at us,
and my coach tells me, we got to just keep
going at this pace in order to keep this up
as opposed to I'm a five star. Those are all
questions for another time, but we're gonna soak it in
right now with Colts. Are you all of it? Don

(25:41):
Fisher are gonna join us next? Mike Chappelin the program Today,
we'll talk a little Notre Dame coming up at one thirty.
Tom Noi from South Bend joins the program and a
question for you folks basketball wise, PACER's getting underway on Thursday,
Ton to get to and we'll do it with Don
starting out next.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
Day.

Speaker 10 (26:00):
It's twelve thirty.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
It's Fish.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
There's a throw by Medza Wine open. This time it
is surround ten yard line, five yard line touch. This
time they did the Kailani.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
Tackle.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Fernando looks, looks, fires down the middle of the feel
he's got a man. It's over. It's a tough down.
Fernando fires us friend to the Endzon and it is common.
Another tremendous grab for a tough town fire like this
surround the voice of the Hoosiers, Don Fisher joining Query
in company on ninety three five and one oh seven

(26:38):
five the fan. Let me tell you how you know
that everything is running fabulously for your college football team.
It goes without saying that when you are unblemished that
things are going well. It goes without saying when you're
quarterback that things are going well, and it goes without
saying that you are ranked number two in the country

(26:58):
things are going well. But the ultimate tell tale may
be when you turn on the football broadcast, as you
could do on this radio station and you hear the
play by play analyst and the color analysts before the
game discussing whether or not the Bison mascot actually condunk
and or ride a Harley. When you hear that, you
say to yourself, this means everything is perfect in Hoo's

(27:21):
your land. Don Fisher, the voice of the Hoosiers, joins us, Now,
that's a pretty fair assessment, is it not, Don.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Pretty good? Pretty good? It makes me laugh.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
However, it was cracking me up because Shannon and I
are listening to the game and you guys were breaking
down like the vertical leap and or the size of
the Bison, and listen, Don, and then the game gets underway,
and you know, I was just saying it. I think

(27:53):
at times, over the course of a game. You know,
Kurt Signetti an inner. You know you know this obviously
in talking to him. He is at times so concise
and so direct on what he wants and what he
expects in a game, and he can just fire off
the cliches like that, right, And then you watch his
team though, and it truly carries the character and the

(28:15):
message of the coach. Because I am just still pinching
myself over the efficiency of Indiana, both on offense and defense.
I just don I don't know that I've seen a
team and I don't mean this to blow the smoke,
but I just don't know that I've seen a team
that plays as smart and as efficient as I've seen

(28:38):
from Indiana. Does this remind you of other programs that
you've seen or other teams over the years.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
It does.

Speaker 10 (28:45):
I mean, when you think about that kind of efficiency,
that kind of.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
The way they go about things, and I.

Speaker 10 (28:55):
Don't want to compare it to who I'm going to
compare it to, but it it does remind me of
the Ohio States and the Michigan of the past, not
necessarily now so much, but of the past of the
teams I've watched on television, the Alabama's, those type of

(29:16):
ball clubs, and I'm not saying that Indiana is in
that category yet, but it looks like that. It looks like, Man,
these guys are good, they really are. They do the
things their coach is asking them to do. It's got disciplined,
it's got toughness, it's got all those things that coach

(29:37):
Signetti talks about at this juncture, and it looks so good.
Not just the average fan, but to guys that are experts,
Urban Meyers said this is the best coach team in
the country, and he said that recently. So I'm all
I can tell you at this juncture is that what
we're seeing at Indiana University historic in just about every

(30:01):
way you can think of.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
And don when you look at the roster and I know, look,
you know Sarat is a phenomenal player. And it goes
without saying I mean what Mendoza is doing again, efficient
is the word that keeps coming to mind. But when
I look at just the totality of Indiana football, I

(30:24):
wonder this, how much of this is because he's been
able to get guys to buy in? Because I'm not
saying all and I mean it is no disrespect to
the previous stops for some of them, but there's like
this chip on the shoulder right of that Signetti himself
kind of has of like, yeah, I might have been
at JMU, but you know what, like I just went
Google me and and all of these guys are buying

(30:46):
into it. How has he been able to get guys
to put the team accomplishment above personal accomplishment when they
when some of these guys had personal vendetta against reputation.

Speaker 10 (31:03):
Well, in my opinion, the reason he's able to do
that with players is because he researches players. He researches
what these guys are like, what kind of character do
they have, what's their performance been like when they have
been out there in the field. We're talking about portal
guys now, but he does the same thing with high

(31:26):
school kids who he recruits. He's looking at this at
the total picture of a player, not just in the
sense of his physical prowess or how he has played
from a talent perspective. He's also looking at the guy internally.
If you know what I'm saying, what this kid's mindset is,

(31:47):
how's he approaching coming to Indiana? Is money the most
important thing?

Speaker 2 (31:53):
You know?

Speaker 10 (31:53):
All those kinds of factors that now coaches have to
look into and if they don't. If they don't, they're
not going to get the guy they're looking for. And
that requires then probably having to replace that guy because
that guy is going to transfer, or if you're if
you if you want to continue to play with him,

(32:14):
does he fit the mold of what you're trying to
build with your program. So there are so many factors
involved in this thing right now. But more than anything else,
what Signetti looks for is character first.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
And then the other things. And I couldn't put.

Speaker 10 (32:31):
Him in the order that perhaps he would, but all
the things we talked about at this point, it gives
you some idea of why this team looks like it
does right now because he has built this team, constructed
this team through his research.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Don I literally feel like I need to say this
and then run like out of the building, okay, because
I get it from an and I mean it is
the highest of compliments for Indiana. I feel like the
what Kurt Signetti has done and what you're talking about
in terms of roster build is kind of the football
equivalent of what Matt Painter doesn't Purdue. And I know

(33:07):
Indiana fans don't want to hear that comparison, but my
point being, and I know you think the world of
you know, Matt as a basketball coach. There just is
an ability that some coaches have. Sometimes it separates coaches
of understanding people right and just and being able to
assess people and put people together. And for Kurt Signetti

(33:29):
it's worked beautifully. Obviously with Fernanda Mendoza, this is one
of them that I saw a comment afterwards for Mendoza
where I'm watching him and I'm thinking, this is the
antithesis of the stereotype of big, like successful jock quarterback,
because he was this humble team first in comment guy,

(33:51):
And so I was curious how much time you have
had a chance to talk to Fernanda Mendoza and just
kind of your overall assessment of what kind of young
man he is and that is enabling him to be
and have this kind of a season. Brindiana.

Speaker 10 (34:05):
Well, the truth of the matter is, I haven't spoke
to Fernando yet.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
I have not.

Speaker 10 (34:09):
I haven't had a chance to I've literally it's not
that I've been kept away from him or he from me.
It's simply that because of the demands on him at
this point, I'm sure acting you protecting him a lot
from a lot of the things that happened, and I
just haven't had a chance to interact with him in
any way, shape or form. However, I've seen his interviews

(34:33):
with you know, in the post game scenarios and that
kind of stuff where he's talked to the rest of
the media and what kind of questions are asked and
the kind of answers he's given, and he is exactly
as you as you've said.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Very humble.

Speaker 10 (34:51):
Team first talks about how he must get in there
and look at film and how much work he does
in that regard what the coaches say about him. He's
a very coachable guy. He listens intently and he studies intently.
And so from that perspective and from the personality that

(35:13):
I've seen him as Zoos in these press conferences and
so on, I'm really impressed with the kid because all
he does is talk about I've got to get better.
The things that I do sometimes are not the right thing,
so to speak. He says, I make mistakes, and I've
got to correct those mistakes. It's again, it's the character

(35:35):
of the kid we're talking about here, and that's why
all of these guys are successful, because that's the kind
of kid that Kurt Signetti goes after. And when you
talk to almost any of these players, and I mean
virtually anybody that Signetti has brought on campus to be
a part of this football team, they've got the same

(35:57):
type of personality.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
To speak.

Speaker 10 (36:01):
Yeah, there's there's differences in every kid or in every
young adult that comes into IU. But they all think
the same way. They're all thinking the same things, and
he definitely demands that kind of thinking process when it
comes to his players. And if they don't buy into it,

(36:24):
see you later.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
Yeah, I mean it's in. You can just tell it, right,
I mean, it literally is. Everybody is laser focused on
the same thing from on each play. But let me
ask you, Don, Don Fisher, our guests, he's on the
Joba House, peel and poor guest line. We're talking Indiana football,
the number two ranked now Indiana Hoosiers. Lastly, Don, and
I asked this just because you know, you see every

(36:48):
play and you know whether between you and Bucker whoever
you talk to, is there an achilles? I mean, is
there an area with this Indiana football team that you
say to yourself, Look, this is great, but there there's
still an area that I know they need to shore
up that could bite them. And it's this.

Speaker 10 (37:06):
I don't have that area, Jake, I'm not that smart.
I can just tell you I don't know what area
that would be, no idea. Yeah, I mean there's just
nothing I can point to. The One thing I've said,
and I said this to you before, and I've said
it to anybody who asked me questions about Indiana right now.

(37:28):
Who's going to beat this team? And my answer is
a team with more talent, a lot more talent than
what Indiana has, and they've also got to be a
really good football program under their coach. So I'm not
going to sit here and say that Indiana is not
going to get beat and then that they couldn't be
upset or anything like that, because we don't know. We've

(37:50):
only I mean, we've played some really good ball games
against some really good football teams at this point. And
obviously the biggest newie or new beyond that block is
the Oregon Ducks, who nobody thought, almost nobody thought could
beat Oregon at their place, and it happened a couple
of weeks ago. So at this juncture, Jake, I can't

(38:12):
answer that. But one thing I do want to say,
from what you asked me earlier, you brought up Matt
Painter and his philosophy and how he goes about things.
There's not much difference you can say about these two programs.
I'm talking about the basketball Purdue and the football at
Indiana right now, and I think you're going to see

(38:33):
something very similar to what we see from Matt Painter
and t Signetti.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
And the new guy, Darren de Brees. I really believe that.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Yeah, I'll tell you what that was. You know, obviously
done from the basketball standpoint, Darren de Brees has done
so far, you know, all the right things. And certainly
the players that have come in have been bought in
from what we can see so far. And I think
I'll tell you what. Offensively, they're going to be awfully

(39:00):
fun to watch. You know, I don't know how good
they'll be this particular year, but their style and they're
not afraid to shoot threes, I think they're going to
be awfully fun to watch.

Speaker 10 (39:09):
Oh, they're going to be so much fun to watch
because not only do they put up a ton of frees,
and we saw that in the first exhibition game. And
you know what, they're going to be teams that try
to take that away and you won't be shooting as
many as they did in the first matchup with Marion,
which is thirty maybe fifteen. But at the same time,

(39:31):
you're going to see a basketball team that I'm telling
you Indiana fans so get a chance to watch this
IU basketball team early in this season, are going to
fall in love with them because they play the way
you should play basketball at Indiana and the way you
should play basketball any place in that regard. And that's
for really tough defense, really playing their butts off all

(39:53):
the time, and they're going to compete like crazy. And
you're right, nobody really knows how good this talent level
is with this particular group. And they've got some they've
got some areas that are not as strong as some
of the teams are going to face in the Big Ten.
But I believe that they're going to compete every single
night that they play because this guy demands it.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
Don I think if I'm not mistaken here, you've got
three or four more weeks here that you can get
in some golf. Is that about right?

Speaker 10 (40:25):
Well, we're about to We're about to enter November, of
which the golf court, the golf bag mitys will be
put in the trunk and not be used to do
until next spring because I just got too much going
on with football and basketball.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Well that's what I was going to say. Is now
you're like, well, hey, that's fine, because I got a
top five football team and an up and coming basketball team.
To deal with like, it's all good, right, life's good
for Don Fisher.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
That's exactly right. It can't get much better than.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
This, Don. We appreciate the time as always, and the
Hoosiers and UCLA coming up Saturday at noon. Of course
you can hear that with Don on the call as well.
Appreciate it, Don, thanks for having me, Jake, Don Fisher
on the job, House Peel and poor guest line we
come back. I had asked yesterday for your summary of
the Colts season. I will read some of the best

(41:16):
of those, and Mike Chapel joins us coming up in
just under fifteen. So I always ask at the end
of each game for contribution from you. We had Eddie,
you were gone. We had on Thursday. Okay, we basically

(41:40):
had a foo bar Thursday. Really yeah, we sent out
a pigeon carrier. It died. Oh we are a carrier pigeon,
I should say it died. The phone lines were down,
the I think the internet was down. We try to
get people to write outside and notes to us on

(42:02):
the window, but we're no longer. We can't see outside.
So well, here's to say they could even get here, Jake,
because you know, they're still working on the stand. But
by the way, what's going on with Capital. I'm driving
down Capitol today, I'm like, where did this come from?
But nonetheless, so we did on I believe it was Friday,
we did an interactive basically it was the a Redo

(42:24):
Interactive Friday because I felt bad about the fact that
it was just me on Thursday. And trust me, I
know people don't agree with it or don't believe this,
but less of me, more of you probably better. But
I always ask the question after each Colts game to
summarize for me. Your thoughts on the cold season were

(42:45):
through seven games, so I went with seven summarizing seven
words or fewer your thoughts on the Colts so far
this season? Eric, when I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong.
Our buddy Moe in Ohio. Amazing how one player changes
confidence and cohesion. That is seven actually because he used

(43:07):
the amper stamp or whatever the hell it's called for,
and so he saved himself a word there, Mark James,
you have to trust the process. Chris. Keep giving Jonathan
Taylor the dang ball Jackson. Something magical is happening in

(43:27):
Indiana sports.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Now.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
This is one that I think there are probably a
lot of people that feel in the back of their
mind from ump guy defense needs bolstered. Otherwise the tides change.
I do think pass rush, for certain is something that
they need to address. But the overwhelming theme here this

(43:56):
team is really fun to watch. Better than expected still
haven't played anyone. That one is interesting because when you
say better than expected, still haven't played anyone, I don't
disagree to an extent, but then you look at it
and you go But that's the point for this team,

(44:18):
they haven't played anyone. For a below average or subpar team,
the Rams are playing someone, The Chargers are playing someone, right,
the Broncos are playing someone. But when you are clicking
at thirty points per game, and you've got a running

(44:38):
back that's playing at an MVP level, and you've got
a quarterback that's making all the right decisions, including at
times the mundane ones because it gets out of disaster,
and you have a tight end that is a cheat code,
and you have a wide receiver that has come out
of his shell from getting away from just being a
deep ball receiver and rather being one that is wherever

(44:59):
you need him to be an Alec Pierce, and you
have Michael Pittman that's blocking for all of those that
I just mentioned, and you have Ashton Doolan that is
just waiting his turn. When you have all of those
and you have an offensive line that when Quentin Nelson
was drafted and Jim Mersey said, Quinton, Man, you know
you're gonna be like Hannah and that literally in Bordolini's

(45:22):
playing well, and the right side's playing well, and the
line is protecting. When you have all those things that
come together. Yes, in fact, you say they haven't played
anybody yet because to this team, everybody, to nobody, and
whoever would have guessed that was going to be the case.
Mike Chappa might have will asking me joined us next

(45:42):
an unfortunate song in our automated musical bounceback scenario. Considering
the story that just came out, I think while we're
in the break, Eddie is when this news came out.
If I'm not mistaken, correct, Yeah, I.

Speaker 7 (46:01):
Just saw this about a minute ago from Ryan Hendrick
from over at WYBC. I'll hit the breaking new sounder Jake.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
Again. I'm waiting to find exactly where this was that
the Eddie do you happen to You just want to
read what it was that you saw.

Speaker 7 (46:25):
Yeah, sorry, I was getting Mike on hold. They're getting
them ready, Ryan Hendrick. Of of course, our sister station
ninety three WYBC just a minute ago at Sure to
cover on ex Pacers rookie Cam Jones was just arrested
after a brief police chase on I sixty five in Indianapolis.
The pursuit ended near Fletcher Avenue exit in Fountain Square.
The team says they are aware of the situation Cam Jones,

(46:47):
who has been hurt. He has not played over the
course of the preseason, and of course, the rookie out
of Marquette was their top draft choice in this past
off season. We will monitor what that means for Cam
Jones and find out more about that story as it

(47:07):
goes along. Joining us now on the Java House, Peel
and Port guest line. He is the dean of writers
when it comes to covering the Colt Sea has been
doing so since the Mayflowers arrived. He is with WXI
in box fifty nine and CBS four Mike Chappell joining us.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
Chapel. I will begin with this question, and I'm a
little hesitant to go this way with it because it
sounds like I'm being negative. That's not the case at all.
But with this team, you know, they are playing at
such a level that some of the talking points are
the obvious. So I'll start with this. Do you believe
they will make a move to try to address pass

(47:43):
rush between now and the trade deadline?

Speaker 11 (47:46):
Yes, they have to. I mean they have to explore.
I hope it's it's serious exploration whether and we can
argue pass rush or corner I would take a pass
rusher any day, but the secondary is so depleted. The secondary,

(48:08):
the corners are so depleted. I in this instance, I
would probably opt for a cornerback. First of all, it's
going to be it's probably gonna be cheaper to get
you a cornerback. As far as what it will take
to give him, I know people point to Trey hendrickson
the fact that Bengals well in last week and are
still sort of in it. But boy, I'm not sure

(48:30):
how you make him fit. He's got like twenty nine
million dollars. I realize that's pro rated. But and you
can do wonderful things with the salary cap. You can
make it sing, you really can, but that that would
be a stretch. I hope they find a corner and
not and not a guy. I'm talking a guy you

(48:53):
know Italics who can step in and play. And you know,
obviously getting the guy now there's reason you're getting in.
But in this case, it's probably from a team that's
not in the chase, and it's a guy that's been
playing so often. You know, you bring in a free
agent the Sapien Howard Mike Hilton to a few lesser degree,

(49:13):
who hasn't been playing well.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
If you get a.

Speaker 11 (49:16):
Guy now he's been playing and he's let go for
a reason the team's and he's not playing well or whatever,
I will be surprised if they don't go out and
get a corner again, a pass rush who would make
more of a splash because.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
It'll be a name. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:34):
But yeah, here's the thing. I think it's a little
bit of a chicken and egg thing here, Okay, but
you can their their defensive backfield has been depleted by
injury to your point, right, and they've had to and
I think, to be honest with you, and you made
you know, I know, the xavient Howard thing. You know,
but as you start to get some guys back, in

(49:55):
particular and Nick Cross was picked on pretty heavily yesterday.
He had that pick, but other than that, I thought
they went to him a lot. There's probably a reason
that you can say that, but you can get away
with in my opinion, and I want you, as somebody
who knows football, to tell me if you agree or disagree,
you can get away with average to slightly below average

(50:18):
corner play more often than not if you are rushing
a passer into having to throw it. The longer that
a quarterback has time, the more a depletion in your
defensive backfield is exposed.

Speaker 11 (50:31):
I don't disagree, and that's why I say and in
most cases I take a pass rusher because I should think.
You know, Dwight Freeney, Hall of Famer, he can make
three plays in a game and standing there twilling his
thumbs for fifty plays and he wins a game for you.
That's extreme, I realized. But I just think in this case,

(50:52):
I thought that it's kind of crazy. I thought the
pressure was okay Sunday, three sacks. One of them was late,
maybe two of them are late, but I thought they
got they They moved Herbert A Rand a little bit,
which he's really good at doing moving up, moving side
to side, he threw the ball fifty five times. There's
you know, with that offensive line down to their fifth

(51:15):
and six tackles whatever, they should have gotten to him more.
But when you're playing corners like Jonathan Edwards started a
couple of games and and he was like their fourth
corner this this this week. So and Chris Lemons who
had the stop against McBride with the hold U didn't
play a ton. And the thing is they're not going

(51:37):
to get guys back anytime. So they got Kenny Moore back,
which is huge, but charge you know Mooney Ward's going
to miss four games at least with concussions.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
You never know.

Speaker 11 (51:48):
And Jalen Jones we've been given no indication when they
opened the twenty one day window with him. So right
now these are your corners. And I just I just
have enough faith that the pass freshers they got, although
now it's saying for that become. You don't know. With

(52:09):
the knee, I've been told it's not long term, but
you don't know. Taekwon Lewis with a growing you don't know.
I wouldn't mind both. I don't know that they can
swing that. But this is one and this isn't mortgage
in the future at all. This is your You're finding
a guy probably for one year, half a year, and

(52:30):
as long as the compensation makes sense. And you know,
I at this point in the season, I'll give up
a fifth round pick, a sixth round pick, a seventh
round pick. I will because I think that the opportunity
is there to do something. The rest of the league
is sort of muddling around. There's a few teams that
are that are starting to emerge, Kansas City and people

(52:52):
like that. But what what And now you've got a
two game lead in the AC South?

Speaker 2 (52:57):
Who knows what?

Speaker 11 (52:58):
How do you how do you figure out what Jacksonville is?
I don't know, but and Houston's got a tough game
coming up. So I think it makes so much sense.
I think the only in season trade the Ballads made
was Nahem Hines. I think is when Nahem wanted requested

(53:19):
a trade to Buffalo and they got Zach Boss, which
was a good trade, a really good trade. So I'm
not a wheeler dealer, you know, the fantasy football guy,
but I think this is this is a situation that
maybe you give up a little bit more than you
want to, but I think with it, you're just asking

(53:41):
the offense to do so much, you know, thirty three
points a game, and it's just it's just humming really well.
But can they do that every game? Maybe we're sitting
here in December to the man you came to either
so averaging thirty three points, but you can't be letting
a quarterback throw for four hundred yards and and all that.

(54:01):
Give me a corner number one and then.

Speaker 12 (54:04):
Give me a pass rush if you flint one, Mike,
do you feel like the rental is the best way
to go considering where they're at with free agents coming
up after the season and Braden Smith, Daniel Jones, Alec Pearson,
nit Cross instead of you know, trying to trade for
a guy that may have a couple of years underneath
in terms of left on the contract.

Speaker 11 (54:22):
Well, you may get that, Yeah, you may get it.
If it's a younger guy. You may get a guy
that's got two more years and the good part is
that you're getting you're getting his base salary. You're not
getting any of the signing bonus as well.

Speaker 1 (54:35):
But you probably need to get first contract guy in
that situation.

Speaker 11 (54:39):
Rights if you could, But you know, if you've got
a veteran guy who's got a year to go on
his contract and he's still playing high and again it's
because of the team. Cleveland is trying to dump somebody
because they're not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
I would do that.

Speaker 11 (54:55):
Yeah, ideally you want a guy on his first contract
that's got two more years to go. But I wouldn't
be I wouldn't hesitate to do something for a veteran guy,
guy that's you know, been around, played five six years
and it is a one year rental. Who knows what
next year. Let's worry about next year next year. I've
always thought, like I say, long term in the NFL

(55:17):
used to be seven or eight years if you've got
Peyton Manning, but now it's like four years or three years.
And when you've got things going well, now take care
of now and again without without putting yourself in a
bind moving forward, which I don't think. There's really not
much of a way of making a trade that's going
to really hamstring you going forward. But no, you're right,

(55:38):
you've got Braden Smith, Nick Cross, Daniel Jones. They'll figure
all that out. They look ahead, but right now and
they can address I think they've got like six million
dollars in cap space, which is just a number. They
can go to Quintin, they can go to Buck maybe
somebody else. They can make the numbers. And I just

(56:01):
think if it looks good and it works for him,
I would make a move or two.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
Yes, Mike Chapel is our guest. He's on the Joba
House Peel and Poor Guest line. By the way, Jake
twenty five the discount code if you would like to
purchase the Peel and Poor pods at job House. Mike,
the the job that Shane Steichen has done. Have you
seen you know, you've been around him, You cover the team,

(56:31):
you're in the weekly press conferences, et cetera. Is this
a guy you feel that had to make adjustments and
grow as a coach or was it rather he finally
now has the players around him, notably at the quarterback position,
that are delivering on what it was that he has
been doing all along.

Speaker 11 (56:51):
Yeah, both are true. He had to grow into the position,
but I think it just kind of it emphasizes how
restricted he's been the last couple of years because of
the quarterback situation. To wear and boil us, we don't
need to pile on Anthony Richards and we don't. But

(57:13):
to compare him and Daniel Jones is a disservice to
both because Richards has done so much talent, so much
incredible big play, but he doesn't have that down to
down mastery of things of consistency. Remember when Steichen said
find completions, and I've always tried to. I would never

(57:36):
call Daniel Jones a game manager, but boys, he managing
this offense.

Speaker 8 (57:42):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (57:42):
And that's not a knock at all. It's really kind
of funny and I and I it hit me last
night when I followed the quotes from the from the podium,
somebody asked Jones about the offense and he said, well, no,
he said, what really? You know, what I'm proud of
is we're not doing anything out of the ordinary or crazy.
And I've been saying that for the last month. They're

(58:04):
just going out and play after play executing. Again, he's
not doing anything crazy. Jonathan Taylor's I'm still waiting for
Jonathan Taylor's game. You know, twenty five carries one hundred
and ninety and all he's doing is wearing you down
with brilliance. Michael Pittman is just having a good season,
Tyler Warren. When you give Shane Stykeen a quarterback who

(58:27):
runs the offense, reads the defenses, gets out of bad plays,
gets into good plays, avoid sacks, and then you pair
him with Jonathan Tabor, who is the Who's the best
running back in the game right now? And it's all
it's all year to year because last year was a
sequon Barkley. But he's on pace for like twenty some
touchdowns again and seventeen hundred yards. This is I wrote

(58:52):
about a while ago, and others have to.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
This is.

Speaker 11 (58:56):
This is Daniel Jones twenty twenty two when he had
Barkley and the Giants went whatever was nine and seven,
whatever it was, and made the playoffs. You're not asking
to do too much, but but he's just making the
right It's what seventy one seventy percent completions. I just
posted something on on Twitter and I double and triple

(59:17):
checked it is he's had one hundred plus rating in
six out of seven games. And I went and checked
how many Colts quarterbacks have had one hundred plus rating
in six of their first seven games? And you know
how mean it is. It's Daniel Jones that's it. Not Peyton,
not Andrew Luck, not John Uniteds so in there, not

(59:38):
like one one point fifty, it's like one thirteen, one
oh one, one thirteen, you know, one oh five. It's
just methodical and efficient. And that's why I say what
they're doing it should sustain because you know, well what
Tyler oron can't keep doing that? Well, why can't he?

(01:00:00):
They haven't. Really, he's not hit that big game yet either.
He's just kind of not too crazy with five catches
and sixty yards and a touchdown, so and they're going
to get Down's back. So I this is really, really,
this is Shane Stike and being able to use his playbook,
not a third of it, but all of it. I

(01:00:22):
only hope, and knowing Shane the way I've gotten to
know him over the last couple of years is he
doesn't get you know, this is pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Let's see if we can go to you know, page.

Speaker 11 (01:00:32):
One fourteen and pull this thing out a crazy play
because he likes, he likes to do that. We saw
that little last year and did and they'll they'll try
some funky things with Tyler Warren. But boy, it's just
fun to watch this offense it's not. It's not the
pyrotechnics of Peyton and Marvin and Reggie and Edgern. It's different,

(01:00:55):
but it's just just as effective.

Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Well, I think one of the things that's effective about
it is is the clock management of it as well, right,
I mean in the fact that that you know they're
able to sustain long drives and keep if you're going
up against Chap a Buffalo or a Kansas City, and
I know that those teams have had their their speed
bumps to this point, although Kandsas City is starting to

(01:01:18):
come to form a little bit, or even Cincinnati. If
you're going up against a rhythm offense, the Colts offense
to me is very dangerous because they can they can
hold it on for six and a half seven minutes
in efficiency and just keep you out of rhythm. Right,
I mean, it's very similar to the way that we

(01:01:39):
saw teams try to play against the Peyton Manning Colts
right right right, and that's you know, go ahead.

Speaker 11 (01:01:47):
Came the game because again when they're going against Justin Herbert,
I think it was pretty obvious to me that Stych
and knew they needed points and that second drive when
they went up went for fourth down three times, uh,
instead of a field goal. He just told it, told
me that he knew that they rant score. Now, whether
that was respect for Justin Herbert or concern over his defense,

(01:02:10):
probably a little bit of both, probably a lot of
Herbert and some on the defense. So and again, how
much does he trust Michael bade Leete?

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 11 (01:02:21):
I really don't. But at some point Badly is gonna
have to make some field goals that you know, the forty.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
Five yards that matter.

Speaker 11 (01:02:29):
So but right now, gosh, again, everything's and knock on wood.
They stayed relatively healthy on offense with the exception of
downs with the concussion. But and again it's fun to watch.
And again they're just not doing anything. Like Jones said, crazy,
this should sustain thisself because again, Taylor, we're waiting for Taylor.
I'm waiting for Taylor, who's having a great season, to

(01:02:51):
have one of those Taylor games where he's two hundred yards.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
So he's just been fun to watch so far.

Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
Is this the best offensive line in the NFL?

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Probably?

Speaker 11 (01:03:02):
Probably? And you've got two second year players on it
with Bordolini and Gonzalvez and and Quintin. Well, he's he's
back to where he's just a highlight reel when he's
pulling and spiking guys.

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
And look I was and I wasn't alone in this.
I was probably wrong or I was wrong in saying
that while it's great to have a dominant left guard,
that is not a position that is a game wrecking
changer for you. And yet they have managed to turn
that into that.

Speaker 11 (01:03:33):
Yeah, this is it's funny and it's not meant as
disrespect Rick v.

Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Jerry.

Speaker 11 (01:03:39):
We were on that boat from the start, using the
six overall pick on our guard. And let's again, I
would much rather have a premium position, a pass rusher,
a left tackle with that pick. And then when you're
right on the pick, you got to pay him, you
know whatever. It was twenty million a year and it's
not meant as this respect to Quentin at all. But

(01:04:03):
I allowed Howard Mudd to influence my thinking back in
the day with the Colson and his point was get
you two tackles and a center and plug and play guards.
And again that I realize that's disrespect for all guards everywhere.
But Quintin, I tell you it's it's and he's more

(01:04:24):
than just a great player if the locker room is
influenced on everybody else, and that's one of the He's
one of those guys and positions where it's really hard
to quantify. Yeah, you can throw up the great blocks
and all that, but you know, it's hard to quantify

(01:04:44):
his influence on the team like you would a quarterback
or a pass rusher or a great corner. But I
still would would rather have somebody another position with the
number six pick. But boy, it's hard to argue with
what Quinton has brought to these guys.

Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
Mike Chapels my guest CBS four, WXA and Fox fifty nine.
He is on the Java House Peel and Port guest line.
Chap in conclusion here and look, I realized this is
cart way before the horse, or in this case, the Colt. Okay,
but we're gonna do it anyway. If you were to envision,

(01:05:21):
it's not hard right now to start thinking about this
if you go outside in that crispit air. So I
want you to envision like that early to mid January game.
It's I you know, for that matter, the Colts may
be at home in the situation I'm about to present,
but it's late in the game. It's a later in
the round playoff game and you're taking on Mahomes or

(01:05:44):
Josh Allen. And it's been one of those offensive shootout games.
Rigoberto Sanchez has been, you know, hanging out on the sidelines,
hasn't been on the field a lot. It's one of
those games like we saw between you know, the Chiefs
and Colts of yesteryear, offensive shootout and it comes down
to it and the opposition has the ball, got to

(01:06:06):
go eighty yards two and a half minutes left and
it's a five point game. Do you believe right now,
the way that they're equipped that the Colts in this
situation have the capability of shutting down a high powered
offense like that when it truly matters most.

Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
No, No, I mean no.

Speaker 11 (01:06:26):
And again, whenever we talk about that, it's like we're
dumping on a six to one team. No, we're just
trying to say what's obvious. And now for the other around,
and they needed to drive eighty yards and you're down five,
I'd like their chances, but depending on the defense.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
No.

Speaker 11 (01:06:45):
No, But that's why when we opened up by saying
they need to make a move.

Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Now you give me.

Speaker 11 (01:06:52):
Mooney wardback and another corner and maybe a pass rusher.
Then we're talking something different as they're made up right now,
how do you trust the secondary to hold up against
one of those guys? And by the way, if this
plays out it you know, if the playoffs started today, well,

(01:07:13):
they'd be home the second round, right, you know, second
probably second round with where they are, and it would
be against not Mahomes or or Allan but probably I
don't know, Denver, I don't know, or who'd be there
the world. The wild card would be.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Houston.

Speaker 11 (01:07:36):
Maybe I don't know. I'd have to look at it deeper.
But no, do I trust what I trust the defense
in the way of structured now, No, not, not not
at all. And if that upsets some people will then
go out and get a cornerback.

Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Well the again, And so let me ask you this,
based on precedent of what we have known from the past,
can you win games by because this is where I
again I'm not trying to harp on the negative here,
but I go back to where the Colts have had
and we've seen it in this town a lot, where
they've had great offenses. It's hard to long term win

(01:08:11):
based on your offense, right, like you have to get
some counter to that.

Speaker 11 (01:08:17):
Well, yeah, look at those Manning years where they remember
the back to back games where they didn't punt, Yeah
against Kansas City and dim.

Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
And then your offense goes flat.

Speaker 11 (01:08:27):
Right now, it was outside and all that stuff, and
they and they let the Patriots mug them and all that. Yeah,
I understand that, but no, your point, at some point,
That's why I said, at some point, you can't keep
asking for your offense. Let's score thirty five points at
some point. At some point, you're gonna have to win
a game that means something twenty seventeen or seventeen thirteen.

(01:08:50):
And that's where at some point the defense is going
to have to stand up and make a stop. I
realized they did against Brissette two weeks ago. I would
to argue that that Crystal Minds held McBride the end zone,
but they didn't call it so so they didn't so
so it wasn't a penalty. But but I just yeah,

(01:09:12):
at some point the defense has to step up in
the way it's structured. Now, I think it's hard. And
that's with with the forst Buckner playing All World again
in Grover Stewart making a big boy interception, which was
just it was like watching a bear grab a salmon
and then going to the It was great, great stuff,

(01:09:34):
great stuff. But now you got to have cornerback play
and and right now they're playing gosh, it's always I'm
always jumping on guys. They're playing corners now that in
a in a in an ideal situation, in their ideal situation,
wouldn't be playing. That's just a fact. You play who

(01:09:56):
you play, you play who you got, but they need help.
They and I wouldn't be opposed to a pass rusher
as well.

Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
Chap appreciate the time as always. We'll talk to you
next week, all right, me will appreciated. Mike Chapel joining
US CBS four and WXA and Fox fifty nine, Java House,
Peel and Poor guest line again code Jake twenty five.
That's Jak E twenty five for twenty five percent off. Also,
if you go to my Twitter account X whatever you
want to call it, my pined account, right there there

(01:10:24):
is a direct link you can buy the bundle that
I've chosen in terms of the Liquid Science as well
as the Wrangler Energy in the Colombian House or the Colombian,
I should say coffee, which is fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Okay,
we come back. I have a question for Indiana fans,
a question for Indiana fans, and it's met with the

(01:10:45):
utmost positivity and the latest on a pro athlete being
arrested in Indie within the morning, okay from WTHR and
our friends at WWC have this as well. But I
just saw this from WTA, which by the way, I'll
be on today at four o'clock. Indiana Pacers rookie Camp

(01:11:05):
Jones has been arrested after a brief chase on Interstate
sixty five in Indianapolis Monday morning. According to Indiana State Police,
around nine to fifty am, a trooper tried to pull
Jones over for alleged erratic driving on southbound I sixty
five near the north split. Jones did not pull over
at first and led them on a brief chase that
ended near the Fletcher Avenue exit near Fountain Square in Indianapolis.

(01:11:28):
He is currently in the Marion County Jail on preliminary
charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. The Pacers
with a statement quote, we are aware of the situation
involving cam Jones. We are in the process of gathering
additional information and will not have any additional comment on
the matter at this time. End quote. Note your Dame

(01:11:49):
with the big win over USC over the weekend. I'm
going to ask Tom Noy a question that of course
he joins us from South Bend. Tom, I'm going to
ask you a question. We always have you on to
talk Notre Dame football that has nothing to do with
Notre Dame but does have to do with sports in
Indiana in order to generate conversation on this program. Is
that fair?

Speaker 11 (01:12:08):
Ah, it's your show.

Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
You can do whatever you want, Okay, So based on that,
do you prefer the Beatles or the Who? No, I'm
just kidding. Okay, this is still within your wheelhouse because
obviously you're a sports columnist within the state of Indiana,
and but I'm curious of this. Do you think that
there is any this story with Indiana who you saw

(01:12:30):
obviously taking on Notre Dame. We talked to you plenty
about it leading up to the in the playoffs, Indiana
football and Kurt Signetti and all that is going into this,
the new contract, the number two ranking, the potential Heisman winner,
all of it. Do you think that there is any
way that that then tempers the annual enthusiasm that Indiana

(01:12:52):
fans have towards their basketball program, and in fact, does
the mediocrity of Indiana basketball over the last twenty years
finally begin to I guess down the enthusiasm that the
fan base has for that particular program. Is there a shift?

Speaker 9 (01:13:13):
I think it would dampen it if Mike Woodson was
still the coach. The fact that there's a new head coach,
there's a new direction.

Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
I think there's a.

Speaker 9 (01:13:23):
Lot of carryover. Maybe a lot of IU basketball fans
look at Darren Debrize and say he's going to do
for IU basketball what Kirk Sinnetti has done for IU football,
and everything's going to be back on that campus. So
I think that if this was Mike Woodson again, everybody
be like, eh, basketball starting, But who cares. We have

(01:13:43):
the number two ranked team football football team in the country.
We're going back to the college football Playoff. We might
beat Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game football
football football. But the fact that there's a new coach
in the new direction, I think I think there's there's
enough going around down there.

Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
That does it put sure on Derees No, not at all,
Not at all.

Speaker 9 (01:14:03):
I mean there's going to be pressure regardless because the
job that he has and where he coaches. But like
this is it's a new world in college basketball where
it's so hard for a new coach to parachute in
and build a roster that's going to be a competitive
or be NCAA tournament worthy in year one.

Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
Are you ready? Okay? How about this one? And then
we're going to get to Notre Dame because it does
someone involved what I'm about to talk about. I really
believe this, Tom. I'm going to give you a theory.
I do this sometimes on this show. I'm going to
give you a theory, and then Tom Noise, I want
you to grade it A to F A being like spectacular,
F being dumbest thing you've ever heard. Okay, Indiana is

(01:14:44):
going to lose the Big Ten championship game to Ohio
State and then turn around and defeat Ohio State in
the National championship game. I truly believe this. I truly
believe this.

Speaker 8 (01:14:58):
Your thoughts, serie, I will give that a see right
now because we don't know it's all about, like everybody
talks about come NCAA Basketball, NCAA.

Speaker 9 (01:15:10):
Tournament time, March madness. This team's going to the Final four,
this team's going to the Sweet sixteen. It's all built
on matchups. If Indiana can do whatever it needs to
do to get a maybe a first round by or whatever,
and then you see what their matchup is, and if
they have a matchup like Penn State did last year

(01:15:30):
in what they had to play Arizona State and SMU, Right, yeah,
I believe you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
No, and Boise State like they that's right, Yeah, because
Arizona State played Texas I.

Speaker 9 (01:15:41):
Think, right, yeah, So it was Boise State and SMU.
Penn State had a what was gifted a spot in
the in the NCAA the College Football Playoffs semi finals.
So unless we until we see the matchups, can't say,
but heck, why not. I mean, this is it's it's
the year of football.

Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Okay. Speaking of Penn State, Tom Noy, our guest South
Ben Tribune, is Marcus Freeman a candidate for that job?

Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:16:06):
No, he's not a candidate for Penn State. He's not
a candidate for Florida. He's not a candidate for any
other job that's going to open up because I'm telling
you right now and nobody understands this. Marcus Freeman is
leaving the University of Notre Dame for exactly two jobs.

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Can I guess? Can I guess you can? Ohio State, Yes, Alabama,
no retirement.

Speaker 9 (01:16:35):
Two jobs, one in college and a team to be
named later in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
That's it.

Speaker 9 (01:16:41):
He's going to Ohio State. If Ryan Day decides he's
had enough, Marcus Freeman obvious choice. And then also maybe
I've done enough in college. I want to give this
NFL thing a shot. Those are the only jobs that
Marcus Freeman will ever leave Notre Dame for.

Speaker 1 (01:16:56):
Is Marcus Freeman coaching a college football Playoff team this year?

Speaker 9 (01:17:00):
Yes, don't look now, but Notre Dame, as we sit
here on October twentieth, very well could be a breed
going back to the College Football Playoff and be hosting
a first round game.

Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
Okay, And is that because Notre Dame after their first
two disappointing losses that Notre Dame made changes in tweaks
and they have revised things and right to the ship,
or they just kept doing what they were doing and
the schedule and I mean that is no disrespect to them.
I think they're very, very good, but they lost to

(01:17:36):
two really good teams. Did they stay that did they
have to be composed or did they have to make changes.

Speaker 9 (01:17:41):
I'll just say yes, a little bit of both, Like
they had to make some changes defensively, but they also
had to stay the course because the first two weeks
it was you've got to fire Chris Ash. Chris Ash
is an idiot. He doesn't know how to coach defense.
This defense looks lost. They had the best defensive coachsistant
coach last year in the country in Al Golden You

(01:18:03):
got to get rid of Chriss Ash. Marcus Freeman said, no,
we're not doing that. We're going to scale back on
what we're doing, but we're still gonna We're gonna stick
with the process. We're gonna stay We're going to stay
the course. And look Arkansas, Boise State, NC State, USC,
all four of those teams had top ten offensive units
when Notre Dame played him, and all four of them

(01:18:25):
finished with fewer points against Notre Dame than what they
came into that game. Averaging that defense is the main
reason they're five and two and headed back to the
the College football.

Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
Playoffs, How would you assess the quarterback play?

Speaker 9 (01:18:38):
Good but a little bit shaky the last couple of
weeks with CJ. Carr, Like not shaky enough to where
you're like, you know what, maybe we should get Kenny
Minshey ready the backup shakey as in, he was so
good so early that you kind of expected that this
is gonna he was gonna have a dip. Like the
way he's the way he's running around, the way he

(01:18:59):
ran on against USC. I can't stand that because he
did the same thing against Miami. Yeah that happened, that
ended in a touchdown. This would this ended in a
bad pick, like just throw the ball away, get three points,
live to fight another down instead of being like I'm
just gonna I'm just gonna make something happen.

Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
So CJ.

Speaker 9 (01:19:17):
Carr has been really good, and part of the part
of the problem is CJ. Carr set the bar so
high so early in the season that he's got to
play really well to meet that standard. Every single week.

Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Tom Noy is our guest South Ben and Tribune, where
you can read his work. He's on the Joba House
Peel and Poor Guest line talking about Notre Dame and
Indiana for that matter. Tom one of the things to
me in college football this year that is interesting. I mean,
I think Ohio State is outstanding, right and I think
I really feel like Ryan Day hasn't even taken the
governor off the engine yet. I mean, you know what

(01:19:49):
I mean. They I just I think the world of
Ohio State, even though I don't like him, But it
seems to be a wide open year this year, I
mean outside of and that's why I'm really optimistic for Indiana,
partially because Indiana also, I think is really good. But
who's a dominant team in college football? We haven't mentioned Alabama?

Speaker 9 (01:20:12):
Yeah, I mean because of what happened that first week
where it was like, what do you you know, Taylin Debora,
He's gonna get fired, he loses, that's Florida State. They
just quietly, just like Notre Dame has done, has done,
They step back into the shadows, keep working, keep winning,
keep getting better. Talk about Ohio State, talk about Indiana,

(01:20:32):
talk about the the grease fire at Penn State. We're
just going to be Alabama right here, and we're going
to beat Tennessee and then we're gonna get ready and
we're going to finish out the SEC schedule. I think
Alabama is a lot better than what teams than a
lot of people give him credit for because of what
happened the way they started the year.

Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
You know, if you, I mean, I don't know how
old I would have to be to truly grasp that
Vanderbilt and Indiana are ranked in the top ten in
What the Hell's going on?

Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
Tom?

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
What are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
It's just honestly like, I feel like Bob Gregor is
going to come out and tell me that actually what
we're watching is the brain game, right.

Speaker 9 (01:21:10):
Let's throw Georgia Tech in there too.

Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
Yeah, Georgia Tech. Listen, I watched Georgia Tech eviscerate my
Clemson Tigers and Clemson that's a whole different talk show, right.
I mean, I don't know what the heck's going on there?
But again I think, Tom, and you tell me if
if I'm making too much of this Indiana in that story, Yes,

(01:21:34):
Kurt Signetti was a tremendous hire by Scott Dolson and
and yes they they have done a remarkable job. And
I think one of the things though for Indiana that
when the thirty for thirty comes out that needs to
be discussed is Indiana was at the forefront in terms
of nil collectives and it was the perfect storm in

(01:21:59):
college football in the last three to five years. The
perfect storm was developing for someone to jump in and
take over the wheel in the left lane, and that's
someone in the Big Ten. Was Indiana? Am I wrong?

Speaker 8 (01:22:14):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:22:14):
And have others? And that would allow other schools to
be like, you know what, we can make that sort
of commitment and get that serious about football. Which is
why Kurt Netty does not have to go to Penn State.
He can do everything he wants to do and accomplish
everything that people want him to accomplish at a place
like Indiana. And five years ago we would never have

(01:22:35):
said that, nor would we would have dreamed it. But
this is college football now. Where you can win in Indiana,
you can win at Vanderbilt, you can win at Georgia Tech.
You could go to Penn State and have everything collapse.
It's not just a core four or five, six, seven
different programs. Everybody has a chance in this new revenue

(01:22:56):
sharing and paying players era that we are in in
com football today.

Speaker 1 (01:23:01):
And Tom doesn't Penn State football kind of feel like
what Indiana basketball went through in a coaching search a
year in a year out of like a lot of
big time coaches. I think, look at it and go,
why would I go there?

Speaker 9 (01:23:11):
Like? I wouldn't want that mess? Would you? Like James Franklin. Yeah,
I know his record was against top twenty five teams
and big, big games and all those other failures. But
the guy did win ten eleven games, ten eleven games,
ten eleven games, and it still wasn't good enough. That's
a it's a pretty hard sell for the next guy.

(01:23:31):
I know it's Penn State and everything, but you got
to you got to the freaking national semi final game
a year ago, and all of a sudden, now you're
on the unemployment line.

Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:23:40):
I trademarked the phrase why not Indiana, which I'm very
proud of, by the way, and I'm thinking now about
And let me tell you something, there's no biggest, no
bigger pain arduous, you know, long drawn out process in
the keyster like getting a trademark. It's it's a nightmare.
But I did do it. I would trademark query theory

(01:24:01):
except for that it's technically query. And my dad was
very clear about the fact that I need to make
sure that people know that it's query or nothing. But
I kind of like that, do you want the trademark
first DIBs on that or should I go ahead and
roll with that. It's yours?

Speaker 9 (01:24:13):
Like I said, it's your show him on Man, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:24:16):
Well, always appreciate it's always accentuated by your visits though
we greatly appreciate it absolutely. All right, Tom Nooyd joining
us South Bend Tribune. Appreciate the time Tom as always,
and have a great week, Java House, Peel and poor
guest line. All right, we come back. It is as
I talked about a it really is a spectacular time
in terms of what the culture doing, what Indiana is doing.

(01:24:40):
The pacers are getting set to get borring the Cam
Jones News today, you know underway here on Thursday, and
Eddie Garrison is back in the mix, and we're going
to find out whether or not he is embarrassed, whether
he's on the hot seat, or whether he got a
little bit of sun on his cheeks. We'll get into
that next. So Eddie Garrison is back in the mix.

(01:25:00):
You should have welcome back, Cotter. I should have.

Speaker 7 (01:25:05):
I feel like I would have had to play that though,
like one of the first songs, because we're halfway through
the over halfway through the show.

Speaker 1 (01:25:10):
Now, well, we have a late arriving audience. We have
an audience that arrives. Yeah, I could do a roll
call if I asked, right now, send me a text
if you're listening to this program. Do you think between
now and the top of the hour, we would eclipse

(01:25:31):
forty five people? Ooh, directly to your phone or through
the text line. We'll go to mine so I can
correspond with people later perhaps or the text line. Obviously.
The problem with the text line, well for either one
of them. At three one seven, two nine ten seventy
is the text line for the station, But then I

(01:25:54):
don't see that once we're done. Whereas my phone like
it literally just a little hand emoji, like I'm taking
attendance three one seven five two three ninety two eighty eight.
I'd like to know if we will eclipse forty five
between now and two pm three one seven five two
three ninety two eighty eight. I will say this.

Speaker 7 (01:26:16):
There was one thing I was bummed about during the vacation.
I missed the missus query leaves PSA you did.

Speaker 1 (01:26:25):
It was very upset up. You did my mom with
her annual leaves public service announcement wet and listen. It
was my mom was on it. She was on it
for this week. It was because of the fact that
in fact it rained and then the leaves haven't really
started falling a whole lot yet. La the woods they
are really a little bit Yeah, it made me think

(01:26:49):
of now, your mom, your neck of the woods actually
are kind of a Redneck of the woods right now,
if you don't mind me saying, because you got a
little son, you were in Florida, is that right? I
was in Florida, and.

Speaker 7 (01:26:58):
Yeah, I'm not burnt. I'm just so this is how
I did. I was slightly out in the sun through
the first so we were there Saturday to Saturday. We
got there last Saturday night, and then I got back
to and left Saturday morning, three days ago. I was
in and out of the sun pretty much all week,
and then on the last day, so it would have
been Friday night. Friday, I was out in the sun

(01:27:19):
for a little while.

Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
Did you wear your SPF? I did, of course. Now
you actually right now are enjoying basically what tastes like
sunshine with your peach tea. Oh yes, I love the
Java House Jake. Thank you for getting me on the
peeling poor pods. You brought me a goodie bag full
of them. And the peacht is the new one that
I've gotten to try. And oh it's really good. Yes,

(01:27:43):
and it's e Like I said, you just water boom,
put the pod in. You're good to go. It's sugar
free too, right instant.

Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Maybe it is?

Speaker 1 (01:27:49):
That is correct? The peacht from Java House again, Jake.
Twenty five is the discount code for anything that you
purchased at Java House dot com. We'll get back into it.
The Colts yesterday it was a huge day out in
Los Angeles for the Colts, not just in terms of
their win, and yes there is I think yesterday was.

(01:28:12):
It was a great day for the Colts for really
three reasons. Three reasons because it was great to get
the win yesterday. It was great for something moving forward,
and it was great in terms of those of you
that support them and proudly wear for the shoe. We've

(01:28:34):
already got eight check ins on the hotline the three, one, seven, two, three, nine, ten,
seventy plus a furrey excuse me, a furry an animal
as check it in as well. Now the animal appears
to be sleeping. I guess it's a a furree, like
one of those real sex HBO deals where people like
to dress up like mascots. Yes, yes, yes, that's why

(01:28:55):
I got a little bit concerned. Yeah, that was a
topic during vacation. Let me tell you, excuse me, that
was the topic. It was heavily discussed during vacation. Last week.
You went on vacation and talked about Furby's.

Speaker 7 (01:29:07):
Yes, Unfortunately, Uh, one of Olivia's cousins, who's like eight,
wants to be a furry for Halloween.

Speaker 1 (01:29:14):
Well not the kind that we're talking about off of
real sex on HBO obviously, Yeah, I hope not. Uh,
three one ninety two eighty eight. Also the other place
you can text and simply check in. I'd like to
think forty five by two o'clock's the goal.

Speaker 7 (01:29:29):
Okay, we got wine that says listening to Jamie's now again.

Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
I mean you gotta know which show, right, you gotta
know which show. We'll get back into the three big
things that happened for the Colts yesterday. We'll do it next.
It's Querry in Company. I'm going to be keeping your
company for the next few hours.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
You are not going to believe the company. This company.
You're going to bankrupt your mama's company.

Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
At least I have the radio to keep me company.
On ninety three to five and one oh seven five
the fan, Jalon's out.

Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
Of the gun, gool the motion of the rights fall
between the hash marks. Now Goulden motioned back to the
left side. Shotgun snap and Jones throws up field caught
Michael Pittman touchdown Man Jones out of the gun and
it's a mere Abdullah into the game as the running
back right of Jones. Shotgun snap for the quarterback. Good
protection fires in the end zone Tyler Ward touchdown. I

(01:30:22):
ind why backing to throw As Herbert looks to his
right scanning pump. Fix throws back to the right and
it's tipped up into the air and I think intercepted
by the pults.

Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
Hey, Grover Stoer has it, big man, go kick the ball. Grover.

Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
It was unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
He got the tip and the pig man.

Speaker 5 (01:30:39):
It was awesome to see. I mean, those guys work
so hard. Grover has been a staple here at this
organization for.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
A long time.

Speaker 5 (01:30:44):
You can always count on them, always stress on him to.

Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
You know, make a play up front.

Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
Herbert goes out of the gun three receiver stack left.
Herbert looks that way initially scanning over to his right.

Speaker 1 (01:30:54):
Throws in the end.

Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
Zone, picked up neck cross, took it.

Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
Away from the receiver.

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
That for Jones, but he pulls it down get to
the Taylor marching two is right. He's at the fucking
touchdown Detroit pidgain for Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 5 (01:31:08):
He's the best back in the league right now. There's
no doubt, and I think it starts with our guys
up front. He's running hard, he's running physical, he's got
great vision. Yeah, he's he's bawling out right now.

Speaker 6 (01:31:17):
When you come to playoffs, it's going to be a
four quarter match, similar to how it wes today. We're
going to fight, scratching claw until that clock's right zero.

Speaker 1 (01:31:23):
Eddie Garrison with the encore performance, the unexpected encore there
with the highlights from yesterday. Charles R. Buckle, Matt Taylor
on the Colts Radio Network, Shane Steike and Jonathan Taylor
you heard from as well. Colt's getting the win in
Los Angeles Sofi Stadium over the chargers. Thank you to
those who have texted in thus far, including Wes who
is out looking for iguanas. Yes, Wes, you are in

(01:31:47):
fact the director of invasive species hunting for the company
here Querrying company on the fan.

Speaker 7 (01:31:54):
I don't think we want to say hunting, Jake, I
mean we are we love animals. We don't want to
say hunting.

Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
That is true recipe invasive species hunting, though, how about
and I don't know if he's like doing, you know,
like wall of Voodoo and eating barbecue iguana, but maybe
just displacing them throughout invasive the areas where they are
invasive in Florida. But here is yesterday what happened in

(01:32:21):
Los Angeles. Three big things that took place. First Off,
we saw the continuation of in this area of the country.
Not Denver, not Phoenix, not Miami, not New York, not Chicago,

(01:32:41):
not La not Portland, not Salt Lake. Indianapolis, Indiana right
now is the epicenter of the sports world in terms
of elite college basketball. Number one team in the country
preseason poll. Right here Central Indiana WNBA top player, continuing

(01:33:04):
to be the straw mixing the drake of attention for
women's basketball right here, Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark, Eastern Conference
Pacers getting underway Thursday night, beginning their season, taken on
Oklahoma City, a redo of the NBA Finals where we
all know the disappointment there. But the reigning champions in

(01:33:26):
the Eastern Conference, Indiana Pacers, the best team in the
National Football League right now, the Indianapolis Colts and the
number two ranked team and the best story in college
football bar none, the Indiana fight and Hoosiers, who may
be the best team in college football. And I truly
believe going to get to the Big Ten title game,

(01:33:48):
drop one to Ohio State, come back and beat Ohio
State in the national title game. That's my prediction right
now on this the twentieth of October. But as for
the Colts, the Indianapolis Colts yesterday, as I mentioned, there
was a play in that game. He just heard Matt
Taylor mention it where Justin Herbert throws to the end zone.
And Nick Cross, I'm not gonna say much maligned Nick Cross,

(01:34:12):
but Nick Cross, who when he was drafted by the Colts,
there was the discussion, there was the national narrative, there
was the analysis of him on draft day. Ah, you know,
the Colts may be reached a little bit here. This
is a guy that is raw, has athleticism, but doesn't
necessarily have understanding or instinct of the position just yet.

(01:34:35):
And they've tried this before. They tried it with I think,
I SAIDJ. TJ. Green. TJ. Green out of Clemson a
number of years ago. Dynamic athlete, but just never grew
into the position. Juju Brentz corner, great athlete, great size,
no fault of his injury, and fortunately got a chance

(01:34:57):
elsewhere once it didn't work out here. But in Nick
Cross's case, they put him in there. And yes, yesterday
the Chargers picked on him a lot, But on that
particular interception, it was perfectly symbolic of the cult season.
Because Nick Cross, who at the beginning of his time

(01:35:18):
in the NFL we had question about. We wondered if
he could grow into it. We wondered if there was
enough time for him to become the player that was expected.
And on that particular play, the areas and the expert
the areas and the strength that he has as a
player that has had him on the field was on display.

(01:35:39):
The athleticism, the range to get there, and then as
that ball is coming, he manages to make a quick turn,
just a slight turn of his body. He makes an adjustment,
and then all of a sudden, and I think even
he was surprised by, oh my gosh, look what just

(01:36:00):
fell right here into my gut. An tremendous athletic one
handed play to end the drive and get an interception.
And that's a little what the Colts have done. The
Colts going into it, we knew that they had a
lot of areas of talent, but we didn't know if
it would come all together. And at the beginning of

(01:36:21):
the season when they arrived in Westfield. They have since
then made just a slight turn, a slight adjustment, and
they made that adjustment, notably at the quarterback position. And
lo and behold, look what has fallen right into their lap.
The Indianapolis Colts right now have the coach of the

(01:36:42):
year in Shane Steichen on their sidelines. The Indianapolis Colts
right now have the offensive player of the year in
Jonathan Taylor in their backfield. The Indianapolis Colts right now
have the rookie of the year in Tyler Warren lining
up for them at tight end, and he is. He

(01:37:03):
is absolutely the magnet piece that draws everything defensively away
from the others. And the Indianapolis Colts right now had
the NFL comeback player of the Year on their roster
in the quarterback Daniel Jones, and the Indianapolis Colts may
have the most valuable player pick either between Taylor and Jones.

(01:37:25):
And you're safe in backing up your argument. But what
we saw yesterday was an offense point number one in
favor of the Colts. We saw yesterday an offense that
is humming along as well as any that we have
seen in the NFL of late. Yeah, they may not

(01:37:46):
be the Rams' greatest show on turf where it's just
like explosive, constant scoring, and yes they may not be
the Manning era, Wayne and Harrison just like Boom, slice
and dice you to death. But they are unbelievably efficient.

(01:38:07):
They are not making mistakes, and they are winning by
doing the little things. They literally the Indianapolis Colts as
an offense, if you are a defense, it is death
by paper cut because yes, they have the ability to
uncork Jonathan Taylor on a big run and you know that,

(01:38:29):
and they have the ability to find Tyler Warren and
get him in space and then get out of the way.
And defenses know that. And they have the ability to
find Alec Pierce behind the defense or at the line.
They have the ability with Michael Pittman as well, all
of those things. But the thing about them to me

(01:38:53):
that is the most impressive and the most effective is
their offense plays within itself and just keeps the ball
away from the other team. And it's one thing to
have big strike offense and score quickly, but when you
a still have some questions defensively, b have a defense

(01:39:18):
that is still coming back from and not a one
hundred percent health, you are just not allowing your opposition
to get in any rhythm whatsoever. And offensively speaking, yesterday,
point number one is what we saw is that the
Indianapolis Colts may have the most effective offense in the
National Football League, might not have the most fireworks, but

(01:39:40):
it's got a ton of those little sparklers going, and
they're still scoring a ton of points. And they're doing
it by controlling the football as well when they need
to and scoring when they need to. Point number two
that is good news for Indianapolis and for the Colts
is the fact that yesterday when you were going up

(01:40:00):
against Justin Herbert and that Los Angeles Chargers offense, and
Herbert's a big quarterback, big arm, really good player, but
his line is decimated, I mean decimated, and even with that,

(01:40:21):
the Colts couldn't effectively and routinely get to him. Yeah,
DeForest Buckner build a statue. The guy is the consummate pro,
consummate leader, and great player. And DeForest Buckner, from a
quarterback pressuring standpoint, saves that defense a lot because he

(01:40:45):
was able to get there, not routinely, but able to
get there. But he's getting doubled on virtually every play,
which makes it even that much more impressive. And the
reason he's getting doubled is because nobody else has stepped up.
Taekwon Lewis gets dinged up. Then you have Quity pay
I think we know is I hate to say it,

(01:41:07):
just a guy. I like him, good story, been okay,
but nothing you know when when you consider where he
was selected and what you anticipated for him, probably not
getting everything that you want out of that, right, you know?
Samson Ebcubam yesterday also gets hurt. I have difficulties saying

(01:41:31):
that name, but he you know, he also gets stinged up.
But Leatu Latu another player that you are expecting pass
rush out of him, and he had moments and he
had a couple of hurries, but when the game was
coming down to it was never on the line because
it was a two possession game. But when the Chargers
late are trying to get a drive and maintain it
and get themselves a punter's chance, a puncher's chance, Leatu

(01:41:55):
Latu is not only not getting pressure, he he's suck
and win. It has to take himself out they need
Yesterday was the real benefit that the Chargers gave the
Colts yesterday was by having a completely depleted offensive line.

(01:42:16):
They proved and showed that Indianapolis needs to address its
pass rush. And yes, they are depleted in the defensive backfield,
but you can get away with having to hang on
a little bit on your defensive backfield. And no fault
of Shane Stikeen or Chris Ballard or leu Aannarumo. I mean,

(01:42:38):
they've just been decimated by injury in that defensive backfield
and some of those guys are coming back. You know,
you forget that they had a promising rookie corner that
went down to the beginning of the year. You forget
that Jalen Jones eventually is going to get his way
back and Mooney Ward now is on ir But you
can get away with having to kind of on and

(01:43:00):
piecemeal your defensive backfield until it's healthy if you are
limiting the amount of time that a guy has to
throw the football and they're not doing that, they're not
limiting it. And yesterday a real service was provided by
the Chargers by not beating the Colts while at the
same time exposing that if you can't get to the
quarterback with that line, then you're really going to struggle

(01:43:24):
when it comes time to try to have to corral
Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes or even Joe Burrow if
he's back in a late January game. So that was
benefit number two for Indianapolis yesterday, learning and seeing that
and getting final proof in the putting of the lack
of pass rush, but doing so in a game you win.

(01:43:47):
And then point number three. I've been to Los Angeles.
I love Los Angeles, the city of Angels. Absolutely perfect weather,
three hundred and sixty three days a year, seventy two sunny,

(01:44:09):
little breeze, no humidity whatsoever. Life's just easier when you
wake up the sun's coming through the window at eight
am and they're like, let's go. You're telling me that
was me last week. It's the best, didn't it?

Speaker 9 (01:44:21):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
It was fantastic. And you don't even have I mean,
and you were in Florida where you had a little
heat and humidity. You don't have any of that, La,
have any of that? LA just laid back and breezy, Baby,
let's go.

Speaker 7 (01:44:32):
I think we had somebody check in during listener roll
call from San Diego.

Speaker 1 (01:44:36):
San Diego, three hundred and sixty four days a year. Yeah,
right now, SOFI Stadium, state of the art, huge video
board runs along the interstate. By the way, Uh, Shannon,
I got on the video board of the Fishers Event
Center with a fuel game Saturday night. Congratulations. I would listen.
Was it because you finally proposed on the jumbo tron? No,

(01:44:59):
we got up there, his cam, no cold play playing?
I was I made on the radio. I'm not like
dirty Laundry. I don't make my living on the evening news,
but I make my living on the radio and on
the YouTube. Chat right here and even still Nothing excites
me more than being at a Fuel game and looking

(01:45:20):
up and see my video, my picture up on the
video board. Loved it. Super exciting.

Speaker 7 (01:45:23):
What kind of strings did you have to pull to
make that happen?

Speaker 1 (01:45:26):
None? I have my little Fuel hat on. They're playing
the Walalle Eyes goons. I was cheering for the fights
and they have a little a little QR code you
take a picture. I say, hey, let's take a picture,
and we send it in and there ends up on
the video board. Loved it. I took a picture of it.
You don't even do that for the Pacer games. No, no,

(01:45:48):
but I was thrilled to at the it's tradition of
the Fuel games. But nonetheless, you should do that at
a Pacers game to see how many times you get
on the JumboTron keep track. I believe at one time
there was an edict that Shannon was not allowed on
kiss camp at the Pacer Games.

Speaker 9 (01:46:05):
Just so you know.

Speaker 1 (01:46:07):
But Sofi Stadium has this huge video board, beautiful stadium,
state of the art, like an almost like a pseudo
open air. Why not because it's seventy two and beautiful there,
and it's it's la it's la la la in and
yet point number three. Yesterday, SOFI Stadium in Los Angeles, California,

(01:46:34):
with Jim Harbaugh, former Colts coach, running the sidelines, former
Midwestern guy, IndyCar owner, all of it, and Justin Herbert
and everything going into those beautiful uniforms and everything else.
That stadium yesterday was Lucas Oil West. That stadium was

(01:46:54):
forty percent Colts fans, tons of blue. Jonathan Taylor's running
for a touchdown. You could see the Colts fans everywhere,
and I'm saying to myself, this is what it's all about.
This is what it's all about. And it's been a
long time coming. I remember vividly. I've told the story before,
being in Dallas, in Dallas, in the Cowboys, America's team

(01:47:17):
in Irving, Texas, the old Cowboys stadium where there's a
hole in the roof so God can watch his favorite
team in Dallas, being there and going out and looking
and I'm like, holy cow, the Dallas Cowboys home stadium
and all of these people are here two hours before
kick to watch the Indianapolis Colts warming up and watch

(01:47:39):
Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison and Edrin James and Reggie
Wayne and Dallas Clark. It's been a long time coming,
and I realized that in LA most people are probably
from elsewhere, and the Chargers would even at that point
be the second rate team in Los Angeles. But nonetheless
to know that people were showing up at Sofi Stadium

(01:48:01):
and overtaking that stadium and blew everywhere, and for the
shoe because people again are proud and excited to represent
that they are a fan of the Indianapolis Colts because
this may be certainly offensively the most total offense in
the National Football League, and it's coached by a guy

(01:48:25):
that is an offensive guru that had to kind of
learn on the job and grow into it a little bit.
But like Nick Cross, Shane Steichen is somebody that you
felt like when he got the job, there were a
lot of things there that were raw, but if eventually
it grew into it, you could have yourselves a really
big piece. And like that play with Nick Cross, the

(01:48:49):
Colts made some adjustment and then all of a sudden
it's right there in their lap. And it was a
glorious day for people that are fans of that franchise
and fans of sports in Central Indiana because Eddie. The
reality is this, Like I mentioned, you are hard pressed
to think of any sport that we cover and talk

(01:49:09):
about on this program where Indianapolis is not the host
of the home right now to the envy of the
rest of the country. Yep. If you're a fan of
the Washington Commanders and you're curious about what's going to
happen with the health of your promising young quarterback and
the year that you thought you were going to be
really good, you're looking going, man, I wish I was

(01:49:31):
a Colts fan. If you're a fan of the Raiders,
who I thought were going to be a potential surprise
team this year with Pete Carroll on the sidelines, but
they're tight end has been out and can't get on
the field, and Gino Smith has regressed. And if you're
a Raiders fan, you're saying to yourselves, I wish I
was a fan of the Colts. And if you are,
for that matter, even a fan of the Buffalo Bills,

(01:49:53):
you're still very optimistic, but you're saying, I don't know
that I want to go to Indianapolis and take on
that offense, because what they're doing is they are playing
to the strength of Daniel Jones, and the strength of
Daniel Jones is playing away from the weakness of the Colts,

(01:50:17):
and that weakness of the Colts offensively is not even
necessarily anything schematically that they can't do. But it's the
fact that Daniel Jones, on each play at times, as
I've mentioned before, isn't necessarily always giving them the good play,
but he is absolutely making certain that they avoid the
bad play, and they are minimalizing their mistakes sometimes by

(01:50:41):
being minimalists. We're not having to go for the home
run here, We're not having to go for the big play.
We'll do it next play. This one, let's just chunk
out two yards. Let's get four yards, and if Taylor
springs himself loose, great, We'll throw to Tyler Warren for
seven yards. And if he has one of those where
he then rumbles for twenty five down the sideite great,

(01:51:04):
and we can spring Jonathan Taylor loose for a first
down because we've got Quentin Nelson who's polling, or Bordolini
who is clearing out a path, or Michael Pittman Junior
who is surrendering himself and getting an extra block ten
yards downfield. Everything about this particular team with the Colts

(01:51:28):
this year so far in twenty twenty five, represents everything
that you want out of a team, out of a community,
whatever it might be. I think right now, this Colts
team perfectly summarizes the city we live in. It perfectly
summarizes all of it because we ain't worried about glitz
and glamber. We don't need all the attention and the

(01:51:50):
bright lights in the big city. We just go out
and do our thing. And that's what they're doing. And
it's wonderful. It's awesome, and you're coming off of the
fact that you're looking at it and you're like, hey,
the good news is if you're a Colts fan, for
like sixty percent of you, you're still riding the high
from Saturday of watching the football team that you root

(01:52:13):
for in Indiana just club and whoever they play, literally
just like wearing teams down that are still waiting for
them to make a mistake. And before you know it,
you're like, okay, yeah, you thought we weren't going to
make the playoffs again, Ranke number two, where's the los's
going to come from? Good luck, let's go. And yes,

(01:52:37):
there are those of you who look at Indiana and
Kurt Signetti and you're like, oh, man, I'm tired of
hearing about IU. Why because I'm a Purdue fan. Guess
what not gonna be long before you're able to watch
Brayden Smith become the all time assist leader in college
basketball to Fletcher Lawyer knocked down another three and prove
to the rest of the country while your basketball program
is number one. And then you think to yourself, I'm

(01:52:59):
a little bit worried though, because Indiana actually the way
that they're able to hit threes and the way that
they're able to offensively play well, maybe Darren Devrees has
a pretty good program down on Bloomington. Maybe both of
you are saying to yourselves, well, gosh, I was gonna
go actually to Lafayette or two Bloomington, but actually, instead

(01:53:20):
of going to watch the games there, I'm just gonna
stop Indianapolis and go see Butler because I like what
Dad mad has been able to put together. And maybe
collectively all together, we as sports fans look at Tara
hot and we say to Matthew Graves, the head basketball
coach of Indiana State, we want to wish you the
best of luck. We want to wish you the best.
We want to wish you well because Matthew Graves this

(01:53:43):
morning had tightness in his chest and a lot of
people said this is sad news for Indiana State. I say,
it's great news for Indiana State because Matthew Graves, who
is Who's your throw and through his family hoo's You're
through and through. And Matthew Graves had the tightness in
his chest, went to Union Hospita Hate. They immediately determined
that he needed to have triple bypass surgery, which, as

(01:54:06):
I understand it happened this morning, and so Mark Slessinger
will take over as the interim coach at Indiana State.
But Matthew Graves expected to be able to recover, and
the fact that they were able to determine that early
is a triumph in its own right. And for a
guy that was in his second year at Indiana State
as the head of the basketball program there already starting

(01:54:29):
off the year with the biggest win of all, and
that was being able to get that treated, listening to
his body, knowing the symptoms. And we hope for the
best in terms of a recovery for Matthew and for
Indiana State basketball. But it is a wonderful time to
be a sports fan in Central Indiana. It's the best.
It's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
And with that.

Speaker 1 (01:54:53):
Comes a question that I asked earlier that I want
to revisit as well, talking about football and basketball and
fan within this state. We'll get to that, and I'm
going to read off some of your brilliant answers on
seven words to describe the Colts. We'll do it all next.
Now here's the question, Eddie, I will allow you to

(01:55:13):
make this decision. Okay, okay. With each game that the
Colts play, I've been asking after as soon as the
game's over, summarize for me your thoughts on the Colts
twenty twenty five season. And after three games, I said,
summarizing three words four games? I said four. Now we're

(01:55:36):
at seven, I said, summarizing seven words are fewer? Do
I maintain that all the way through and then get
people up to a seventeen win word window here for
theftat at this point, okay, some of the responses from yesterday, Yeah,
sweet baby Danny Dimes just gets blank done that from Sean,

(01:55:59):
I revive a little bit what he had to say
there for radio purposes, Really, which word baby and things interesting,
trying to figure out what he would say in those places.
This from Nate. I'm about tonay so loud. That was
one of my favorite ones. That's a good one, Nay.

(01:56:21):
Right Jackson, something magical is happening in Indiana sports, Jeff,
are you near anything Wooden Eddie, Yes, knock on it.

Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
If you could, please.

Speaker 1 (01:56:37):
Please avoid pacers and fever injury curse there, right, Shane,
this team is simply really fun to watch. Okay, I
agree with this one. Defense needs bolstered. Otherwise tides change.

Speaker 7 (01:56:56):
I thought you were gonna say that you agree with that.
Think you know who our quarterback isn't Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (01:57:03):
I did see that, telling you man, that's I you
know my thoughts on that. Yep, the leaders appear happy
Nelson Buckner j T. Look, there are those that have
commented that, yes, in fact, we were wrong. I was wrong.

(01:57:31):
I was wrong for a long time when I said
they had their best players in the wrong positions. That
a guard like a linebacker and a running back doesn't
win view in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 7 (01:57:42):
By the way, we haven't talked about this play, Jake.
I know you highlighted Nick Cross, but could you say
that the play of the game was the sire Franklin
breakup on that third and long on that pass from
Justin Herbert to Lad McConkie, because that was just over
three and a half left. If that's completely it's a

(01:58:03):
one score.

Speaker 1 (01:58:03):
I think Latsu got to his ankle there as well, right,
and kind of irritated him a little bit, I think.
But yes, and look, the Grover Stewart play was a
great play. I mean, I think that we people love
Grover Stewart because he's a you know, he's a big,
likable guy, right. But the athleticism that is necessary to

(01:58:24):
not just have the hand eye coordination to bat the
ball in the air, but then complete that play secure
the ball really impressive. I mean, there were a lot
of really good plays in that game of individual feet
of athleticism that all comes together right for what they did. Now,
Michael makes this point benefited from a soft schedule defense horrible.

(01:58:48):
I don't know that I'd say horrible. But here's what
is the interesting thing to me about saying, and I
don't disagree with it, Well, they haven't played anybody. Heah,
they haven't played anybody. Two guys right now, in the
Inn train in New York City, right, you know share
Nathaniel Jones was watching. The thing is, I haven't played anybody.

(01:59:12):
Who they played. They haven't payed anybody. I ain't played nobody.
I'm telling you, they haven't played nobody. Okay, fine, But
at what point is there is it nobody because of
who the Colts are. I mean at the beginning of
the year, you looked at it and you said, they
got to play Denver, that's just somebody. They gotta play

(01:59:33):
the Rams, that's a somebody. They gotta play the Chargers,
that's a somebody. And the Rams. I realized they lost,
probably should have won, right and moving forward and they
ain't played gotta play nobody, okay, Well, looking forward at
Pittsburgh at Kansas City, a team that Patrick Mahomes, by

(01:59:55):
the way, has never beaten right in a start in.

Speaker 7 (01:59:57):
A regular season game.

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
Yes, Seattle, San Francisco are those when you look at it,
you say, Okay, who's going to challenge them? Because of
the way and the efficiency with which they're playing. It
is to an extent, while I understand that it feels
like it's a soft schedule, also you have to.

Speaker 7 (02:00:19):
Point this out, like We talked about Arizona after first
two weeks about being one of those teams like, hey,
they've you know, they've lucked into two wins beating New
Orleans and Carolina, but like they lose by one in
San Francisco, lose by three to Seattle, they lose to
Tennessee in a horrific way, lose by four to the Colts,
and then yesterday they were leading late against green Bay
on the road. Like that's a team that's been competitive

(02:00:42):
with everybody. Well, that's my point being Eddie. When you
look at it, you can say it feels like they
have a soft schedule, but the reason it feels that
way is because they're the ones that make it seem soft.
I mean, it's in other words, if you want to
say they've played nobody, then my question for you is,

(02:01:04):
so who's somebody?

Speaker 2 (02:01:07):
Who is it?

Speaker 1 (02:01:08):
And it's not their fault, it's the schedule, but schedule
is But even if even if that's right and an't
played nobody, Okay, fine, then who is somebody sends it
like college where you get to pick who you play. Buffalo,
Kansas City, Yeah, those are gonna be a teams the
way Kansas City has been playing lately, Jaco. It's ah,
they look back, they do they do? Does that can

(02:01:30):
get flexed by the way to prime time almost at
one o'clock almost undoubtedly, But you know, and at played nobody, Okay,
they played the What about So Buffalo is a team
that's a somebody? Right, Buffalo just lost to Atlanta and
they lost to who the culture going to see? Right,

(02:01:52):
New England? New England's at home? Your your call of
surprise team New England. Here's the thing about Buffalo, right,
had a colt sat played no buddy Josh Allen of Buffalo,
those guys, are you know that's the best team in
the AFC?

Speaker 2 (02:02:06):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (02:02:07):
Because who's Buffalo beaten? They beat Baltimore, who's a dumpster fire,
They beat the Jets, who's a bigger dumpster fire, They
beat the Dolphins, who's the biggest dumpster fire of ball,
and they beat the Saints, literally the four worst teams
in the NFL. Is who Buffalo beat? And I love
Josh Allen, I love Buffalo, but I'm saying let's be
real here, right. You know, Kansas City, and I agree,

(02:02:31):
Kansas City looks like it is starting to you know,
like the demise of Kansas City might have been overrated.
But Kansas City lost to the Chargers. The Colts just
absolutely owned the Chargers. Kansas City lost to Jacksonville. Colts

(02:02:53):
are gonna get time to show what can happen there, right, Okay?
Kansas City beat the door off the Raiders. Great Raiders
are terrible. Colts and Detroit that's an impressive win. But
I'm telling you the when it comes to the Colts
and the narrative of they haven't played anybody, that's fine,

(02:03:17):
But who is somebody? That's my question? Who is somebody?
I don't think we really know who somebody is yet,
but we're almost halfway through. I don't disagree, but we're
almost halfway through now. As I say, at the beginning
of each season, who is the team that come Halloween

(02:03:37):
time you look at and you go, are they good?
And to your point, you predicted New England? And that
may well be the case. I'll tell you too in
the NFC, is Chicago decent? Don't let Mark Dyton hear that?
Are the Bears decent? Do not let Mark Dyton.

Speaker 7 (02:03:58):
Hear that, Jake, They've won four straight and they're humming offensively.

Speaker 1 (02:04:04):
Are are the Panthers respectable Bryce Young going to miss
this week with an ankle injury. I gotta remember who's
their backup, Andy Dalton. He said, really, they let him
out of the Jerryatric unit. The red Rifle. The red Rifle.

(02:04:26):
I mean, like literally, he's old enough that he actually
is the red rifle. The kid got in a Christmas story.
He might be the Red Musketeer or the Red musket
for real. Okay, how about the Seattle Is Seattle good?
They can't, They can't win at home. Coats will find
out they played at home tonight, Right Houston ten o'clock
double dip. I mean, I'm a huge fan of these

(02:04:48):
seven to ten double double headers, not the seven eight
like last week. I'm not gonna be able to see
that game tonight, Eddie, and I'll have to have you
recap it for me because I'm all locked in tonight.

Speaker 7 (02:04:58):
Oh boy, I'm I'm all locked in. You need to
have a double TV setup somehow, No.

Speaker 1 (02:05:04):
Just one. I'm locked in, baby, my Toronto Blue Jays.
I am all in. Seven week diehard fan. Diehard fan
from nineteen eighty five to nineteen eighty eight, die hard
fan from ninety to ninety four and the last seven
weeks all in, they actually are very fun to watch,
though I've watched like every game. They're very fun to watch.

(02:05:26):
Who wins Tonight? Games? Game seven? Alcs? Who wins tonight?

Speaker 7 (02:05:29):
I always find it hard for the home team to
lose in these situations. So and I like the pitching
matchup avere Beater. Yes, I do think they get it
done tonight. Vlattie has just been unreal this series, and
it kind of puts in perspective you know how good
these players are when they when they need to be.

Speaker 1 (02:05:51):
We saw.

Speaker 7 (02:05:53):
The greatest performance in baseball history, arguably with schoeo Tanis.

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Now there is I did not realize this, did not
realize this, but there was shohev Toanni going. I mean, listen,
what did he go six innings? Six innings with I
think ten k's in three earned runs?

Speaker 2 (02:06:16):
Is that right?

Speaker 7 (02:06:16):
He had three home runs? I don't think you had
three runs? Did he only give up two? I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (02:06:24):
He had six innings, pitch, ten strikeouts, no earn runs
in three walks and three homers. Okay, I didn't realize this,
And thank you for runner Bill for pointing this out
Milwaukee's Tony Collinger in nineteen sixty six. Now it's a
regular season game, so maybe you take it with a
grain of salt. It's a little different than a game

(02:06:44):
clenching Pennant clenching win, right, But Tony Collinger in a game,
a complete game pitch against the Giants, three earned runs,
five strikeouts, and three walks, also hit two Grand slams
in the game. Holy nine RBI. Pretty impressive, yep. But

(02:07:07):
Shoho Tani is arguably he is arguably the greatest baseball
player of all time. Honestly, I mean he when he
is pitching, he is arguably the best pitcher in the game,
and he's probably the best pure hitter in the game.
Not to mention base runner all of it. We'll come back.

(02:07:32):
John will be here. We will hand it off to
him as part of the crossover brought to you by
the good guys that love heating and air lovedash HVAC
dot com is the website three one seven, three five
three twenty one forty one. So Indiana played this at
the Rock, as Tom Fisher says, Memorial Stadium while playing
Michigan state. Of course, this is kind of the anthem

(02:07:53):
for Michigan Football. Big win for Indiana on Saturday over
Michigan State and now number two in the country. Colts
big win yesterday. J and V is here part of
the crossover brought to you by the good guys that
love heating and airs. I'd mentioned love dash HVAC dot com. John,
you got a big show lined up Colts related. I
would assume we kid it was great night.

Speaker 4 (02:08:13):
By the way of sports here, you got a couple
of Monday Niners. We love that at Game seven tonight
ALCS and then that will be followed by the most
boring probably World Series of all time, don't you think?

Speaker 1 (02:08:25):
Or you're not kidding about that? Because it's interesting, you know.
The Dodgers are I do like you know, Chavez, Ravine's
beautiful uniforms are cool and they have I mean, Mookie
Bets seems like a fun guy and Otani's just incredible.
But your bowler, Mookie Betts is a professional bowler?

Speaker 2 (02:08:43):
Is he? Really? He was?

Speaker 4 (02:08:44):
He played what's the bowling thing they have up at
uh Woodland every year, and I think January or February.
He's been there the past two years. I've tried to
get him on the PBA, somebody, somebody has given a
no go so which is a fortunate but yeah, they.

Speaker 1 (02:09:03):
That will be.

Speaker 7 (02:09:04):
And it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (02:09:07):
It's intriguing to me, I should say, because for whatever reason,
this year and I maybe I'm on an island here,
but this year's baseball postseason, I just found myself kind
of gravitating towards it. And I think I told you
when I was out in when I was out in
Denver last weekend and we stayed at Shannon's brother's house,

(02:09:29):
and I was talking to Ryan and his wife, and
both of them were saying how much they were enjoying
the postseason, you know. And then Rockies fans, so it's
not like they have baseball interest really, but it does
feel like this postseason has been fun. And then yes,
to your point, when you have a team with you know,
eliminating somebody that they have a two hundred and ninety
million other payroll higher than it's kind of.

Speaker 4 (02:09:50):
Like, yeah, I think it's you though, because you like
the Blue Jays logo more than anything else.

Speaker 1 (02:09:54):
That's fine. I mean honestly, that maybe is that's it
because you're visions of Ernie behind the plate.

Speaker 4 (02:10:02):
Thinking about it right, correct, and they do Rake, Yeah,
they did not in what the first two games against
the Mayority Seattle did. Yeah, shortly thereafter in Seattle's you
could tell outside of Raleigh most of that is kind
of make believe, like found money, so to speak.

Speaker 1 (02:10:17):
The Blue Jay stuff is legit. There are guys across
the board the fifth in Major League Baseball. Right, It's
not like there's some feel good story, but what's lined
up with the big show?

Speaker 4 (02:10:26):
John Stephen Holder at some point two coming back from
LA about yesterday and the Colts now six and one,
and it has been absolutely incredible. Jonathan Taylor should be
your to me MVP, and you know we're gonna get
in that area now to where you absolutely have to
address a need or to but certainly a need defensively.
I said this yesterday. It's a must win prior to

(02:10:48):
the trade deadline for Chris Ballard to do something to
add to this team. You do not jack around having
a season like this because you are not promised a
damn thing next year. I can worry about next year
next year, but there are there are some needs certainly
that need to be addressed that you can prior to
the trade deadline and the Colts have to do it.

Speaker 1 (02:11:06):
That's I have to do you With IU football, John,
I mentioned this earlier and we'll get more into this
probably over the course of the year. But while the
basketball program is starting over, and you know, with Darren Derees,
I think there's a lot of optimism and I think
they're gonna be fun to watch this year. But do
you feel like Indiana basketball has let's say a two

(02:11:26):
year window to really get things going before the fan
base just says, you know what, my interest now and
my focus is the football side of things.

Speaker 4 (02:11:36):
I would like to think the basketball is still going
to hold a high, high value. But I mean, I
think obviously with what the football program is doing, that
goes without saying you talk about something that is new.
That's why everybody last week, Jake and you were talking
about this, like from Paul Finebaum to whoever that Compton
guy is as well that talks both the Colts and

(02:11:58):
I you they were so wrong. We're out in signetti
because you have to do that. And the further that
point was when Florida made that coaching change over the weekend.
I mean, they're going to come at you from every
single angle you want to lock this dude up, because
this has worked for the first time in the history
of that program, and just nobody knows what it's been
like to be around here. Everybody like Paul Feinbaum is
thinking about being a grandfathered in of the state of Alabama,

(02:12:21):
and the SEC has no idea what They.

Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
Also are completely naive as to the wind of change
of college football. Where look, guys, this is not it's
not SEC dominant anymore. It's a wide open field man,
wide open, all right. John's up next, Yes, he will
bring you home. Steven Holder going to join us on
the program today. Plenty of talk about the Colts. We'll
be back with you at noon tomorrow. And I thank
you for listening to Quarrying Company.
