Pacers Thunderstruck & NCAA House Settlement Decision Explanation

(00:00-25:10) – Query & Company opens on a Monday with Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison discussing the game two loss for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. They credit the job that OKC did at answering anything the Pacers tried doing. Plus, Jake touches on the big news in college athletics that was announced on Friday.

(25:10-34:09) – Jake and Eddie discuss the Cincinnati Bengals releasing Germaine Pratt because of his familiarity with Lou Anarumo and the Colts lack of depth at the linebacker position. They also discuss Tyrese Haliburton’s lack of aggressiveness in game two.   

(34:09-44:31) – The first hour of the program concludes with Jake explaining why he understands if Pacers fans had concerns about Tyrese Haliburton’s health going into game three. Additionally, Jake takes a call from a listener who wasn’t happy with Indiana’s fundamentals.

(44:31-1:08:39) – The Dean, Mike Chappell, from CBS4 and FOX59 joins Jake Query and starts his conversation sharing his thoughts on the NBA Finals so far. Chappell also shares what he knows on the Anthony Richardson shoulder injury, believes that the Irsay daughters will do things their way versus doing it the way that Jim Irsay would have, and touches on the dismissal of Morocco Brown from the front office. 

(1:08:39-1:25:06) – Horizon League Commissioner Julie Roe Lach joins the program to explain the news on Friday that NCAA schools can now directly pay its athletes. She addresses some of the potential recruitment pitches that coaches can give athletes now with this ruling, highlights what the house settlement means from a big picture perspective, notes that there were some school that elected not to be a part of it and doesn’t believe that this settlement doesn’t even the playing field for some of the lower division one conferences.

(1:25:06-1:30:55) – The second hour of today’s show wraps up with Jake sharing the breaking news about the change of ownership with the Indianapolis Colts. He outlines some challenges that could come up now for Jim Irsay’s daughters (Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Kalen Jackson, and Casey Foy).

(1:30:55-1:57:06) – Former Indiana Pacer Jeff Foster joins Query & Company and addresses the two fun facts that Jake introduced him. He comments on last night’s game for the Pacers, explains what issues Oklahoma City’s defense is presenting right now for Indiana, shares a couple of Rick Carlisle stories, reveals that he will be back in Indianapolis for the first time in a while, and reacts to what Austin Croshere said about him a month ago. 

(1:57:06-2:08:23) – IU Indy Athletic Director Luke Bosso joins the program to explain how the school determined that Ben Howlett was the perfect fit to be the next men’s basketball coach, believes that that house’s settlement last week will lead to non-power five conferences having to search harder for players, and provides further details on how the settlement impacts conversations that college’s will have with its current, and future, student-athletes.

(2:08:23-2:13:09) – Today’s show closes out with Jake and Eddie sharing some final thoughts on game two last night and then JMV joins the guys in studio to preview his show!
