This is a guided meditation to give gratitude for our teachers.

Without our teachers, we might feel lost. We might not have the success, the clarity, the guidance that we do. Especially in the yoga and meditation tradition, so much is passed down directly from teacher to student — generation after generation. Without the teacher-student relationship, these teachings would simply be lost.

This practice is inspired by Guru Purnima, the full moon that honors our gurus — the ones who bring light where there is darkness. But this meditation can be done any time. Guru means “remover of darkness,” and Purnima means full moon. In the Vedic tradition, Jyotisha — the science of light — is at the heart of this. So today, we reflect on those who have brought light into our lives.

You’ll be guided to:

– Find a comfortable position and settle into your breath

– Bring to mind one teacher who’s been influential in your life

– Reflect on a moment, a feeling, or a presence they offered you

– Silently express gratitude for them — even as if you’re speaking to them directly

– Continue through a timeline of teachers, mentors, guides — anyone who helped you see more clearly

– Then shift to the people you’ve helped — students, clients, friends — and give thanks for the opportunity to be of service

– And finally, you’ll thank yourself — for showing up, for listening, for being your own inner guide

This is a gentle, healing, heart-centered practice. It’s not about what your teachers said or did, but how they made you feel. Take this time to honor that.

Even if you only have a few minutes, this meditation can reconnect you to the lineage of wisdom you’re a part of — and bring peace to your heart.

🙏 5 Key Quotes from the Episode:

“Guru means the one who brings light where there is darkness.”

“These teachings would be lost without the teacher relationship.”

“Think of a timeline from your earliest teachers to today — and say thank you.”

“Thank yourself for being your own guide.”

Whether you listen on Guru Purnima or a regular Tuesday, this is a beautiful practice for realigning to your heart, your lineage, and your light.

This is a guided meditation to give gratitude for our teachers.
Without our teachers, we might be lost.
We might not have the success, the clarity, the guidance that
we have in our lives and particularly in the yoga
meditation tradition. So much of it is passed down

(00:21):
teacher to student over generations.
So these teachings would be lostwithout the teacher
relationship. And this is to celebrate the
guru purnima. But this can be done anytime.
The word purnima means full moon.
Guru is the one who brings lightwhere there is darkness and
helps us see more clearly. And in the Vedic tradition, the

(00:44):
word in Sanskrit is Jyotish, which means the science of
light. So we are celebrating where we
are, bringing light to our livesand the people who've helped us
bring light into our lives. In this practice, to find a
comfortable position, you can besitting or lying down, whatever

(01:04):
feels most comfortable for you. Now make any little adjustments
you need to move into a more meditative space.
Your eyes can be closed or resting on a single spot and

(01:27):
notice your breath again to takesome slower, deeper belly
breaths. You bring to mind a teacher
who's been influential for you and how it is felt to receive

(01:54):
their support and help in your life.
How does it feel in your body? Maybe there's a specific moment
you can think of or just the general energy of that person in
your life, how they have supported you and in your own
way express internally expressing your gratitude for

(02:16):
that person can be saying thank you could be a specific moment
or memory you want to express gratitude for, as if you're
talking to them or sharing with them, expressing that gratitude
now. And if there's a specific moment

(02:41):
that impacted you with the teacher, to imagine telling them
how that impacts you, how that serves you and express your
thankfulness and gratitude for that.

(03:03):
And now maybe there's another person, another teacher as
influential figure in your life that you'd like to express
gratitude for. And again, there may be words,
it may just be an energy you want to express, bringing to

(03:26):
mind how they have served you and how you would like to
express gratitude for that. Notice how it feels to think of

(03:50):
this person, how it is felt to be near this person or
experience this person's teachings or guidance.
How has it felt for you? And bringing those feelings to
the present moment. There's the saying that people

(04:19):
won't remember what you did or what you said, but they remember
how you made them feel. And this may be true for you as
you bring these memories up in acertain way you felt with them.
May not be a specific word they said or something they did, but
just how it felt. And we'll continue like that in

(04:40):
the next little bit in silence. I'm just bringing to mind any
significant teachers, guides, mentors in your life that you've
in some ways been served by, helped by, gain from, received
help, received guidance that youwould like to express gratitude
and thankfulness for. And we'll stay in silence like

(05:00):
this for a little bit. You might find it helpful to

(05:41):
think of a timeline from the earliest teachers up to today
and just anyone who comes to mind.
Just seeing them in your mind, imagining their presence and
expressing gratitude, saying thank you or however this looks
for you. And you might just go in the
sort of timeline and think of their name and say thank you and

(06:05):
the next person their name. However, this feels for you
bringing to mind the important people of your life and
expressing gratitude again with some silence for a little bit.

(07:46):
And if there are any students orpeople that you've shared
information, support, guidance to in any way bringing them to
mind, to express your gratitude to them, to say thank you for
the opportunity to share. And again, you may think of
their name, say thank you, express it some way, physically,

(08:08):
energetically, but now expressing your gratitude to the
people you've been given the opportunity to help or guide in
some way. And finally, just thanking

(09:07):
yourself for being your own guide.
This can be hand on the heart. Just a internal thank you.

(09:49):
I'm beginning to close the practice if it feels right.
Maybe your hand on the heart or hands in prayer.
It's about the mind to the heartand to each other.
Thank you for taking this time to practice today.
And thank you for the opportunity to share what's been
so valuable and meaningful to me.

(10:10):
All thanks to my teachers and myguidance is why I'm here.
So I appreciate you appreciate this opportunity to share and
hope you have a beautiful rest of your day.
