Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yo, what is up? Boys? How's it going? And welcome
back to another episode of the Rant Cafe Anime Podcast
with Me. Today we got Jordan the anime dude, what's
up dude?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's up everybody? How are you doing today?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Pretty good man? Hell yeah, good to have you. And
we got Recon anime Recon King of Bad Taste. What's
up dude? What up? Boys?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I am back in action and I'm great to be
here to suffer with everyone once more.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Speaking of suffering, we made each other watch anime once again.
The Chat chose Prince of Tennis. I chose Berserk, Jordan
chose Ave Mudaka I don't even know the dice ca
Bang Dream and Mushika the that's a long name okay?
And Recon what did you choose again? Gabriel dropout?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Right?
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Gabriel drop Gabriel dropout? So we all had to do
our homework watch some of these anime and we're gonna
talk about it today. What do you guys want to
start with?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I think we need to start with how the Chat
chooses their anime. We met need to get some of
these in early, get like a pole or something last week,
because you want a Starbart Prince of Tennis. We can,
we can.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Why while we talk about Prince of Tennis, guys, please
leave your recommendations on what you want us to watch
next week in the chat and I'll run a pole
at some point. I just gotta open up the chat
real quick. But yeah, I think that's a good idea.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I felt bad for Ricon because we chose one. I
was like, I've already seen it and I know I
like it, but this man's been captured too many strays deserved.
I say that he might have loved it. I guess
he might.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
We don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
We don't know. What did you think about Prince of
Tennis recon?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
What did you think.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
It was? Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
He wasn't a character in a new environment. It's like
everything you've ever wanted.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's I thought he was going to be weak. I
thought there was going to be some power struggle, but no,
he's just really over pod from the get go, Like
people are just underestimating him and like hey, like they're
making bets with him, like hey, if you can hit
that cat, I'll give you a lot of money. And
he just hits every single fucking shot.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, it's crazy. I will say the flexes were cool.
It was just fun. I usually don't have an issue
with anime looking that bad, but I will say, like
it was super dated and I couldn't find a good
version anywhere. So the ones that were on like illegal
like Yayo Yayo sites, like they were so pixelated, and
this came out in the two thousands, so.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Like they yeah, they were pretty pixelated. But I saw
that there was like a Tsunami jet Stream logo on
the side, and I'm like, that's where I watched it
back in the day, Like I literally to Tunami jet
Stream websites. So I don't know, brought back the nostalgia.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
For me, it was fun. I loved the little he
was playing against a guy and we had all this exposition,
like the people watching were talking about like the plays
and the serves. And at the very end, he's like,
let me use my actual hand. He like slowly falls into.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
His left hand placetns just like Brigo.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, that's honestly what I used to do in badminton
against my opponents. I could turn the warm up. I
would warm up with my wrong hand to like throw
people off, and then I would I without even seen
the Prince of tennis. I would do the slow transition too.
I thought it was an anime main character.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Man, whenever I played tennis in high school, I'm not
gonna lie. I started out I didn't know how to
do a backhand. I would just switch the racket from
my right hand through my left hand and do two
different forehands, and then.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
The most Jordan thing I've ever heard, He's like, I'm
good with that. I'll do it forever I had.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
I had a coach teach me how to do a
backhand after that, and after that, I was just way
more confident in the backhand than the forehand because I
actually learned how to do it, And I'm like, oh,
this is great. I have to just try to al
athlete people anymore, just actually learn how to play tennis.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's so funny.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
But uh, is there for me to say that? I
liked the way Hike started a lot more like during
the first three episodes the Prince of No Hike.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
You's great.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, Hike is fantastic. I'm always a fan of the
underdog story and like him being shorter, can't find a team,
like finding his rival, and like finally getting the tournament
and losing. I think I think Haike is a great start.
That's like my style of preference. But I think Prince
of Tennis its own appeal for sure.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, understandable. I mean, Henatsa was never great at the start,
like he was okay, he just kept with his old team.
He just lost, and then he decides to join Katasuno
and then his life pretty much changes and he becomes better.
Like that's that's the type of thing that I like
when it comes to watching sports anime or mainly any
other anime, it's just, you know, the underdog story. But
(04:24):
this one wasn't that bad. It's just kind of predictable
on what is going to happen, you know, from the
get go, Like yeah, he's overpowered, he's skillful. Yeah, yeah,
we know where this is gonna go.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Did you guys watch the dub or the sub.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Sub?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I watched this time, but subed Originally.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I watched the duve and it was pretty cringe. It
was pretty bad. It was a dialogue was killing me,
and like some lines are like he's the Samurai junior
or junior Samurai what because his dad his dad was
they called him like the Samurai of of of Tennis
or whatever. And then they're like, yeah, he's Samurai you
it was killing me.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah. So, like his dad was a pro went to
go play in America, so he like grew up in America, right,
winning tournaments over there, and as you know, like a
lot of pro athletes, but tennis in particular, like a
lot of the people that get really really good have
been doing it like since they could walk. So it's
like he definitely comes across as one of those kids
that's been holding a tennis racket since like he was
a toddler, right, and he's good. He's good. I forgot
(05:24):
how slow slow, but he yet hype. These first few
episodes were as far as like slow rolling us because
there's a lot of cool characters in Prince of Tennis,
but the first three episodes that we watched are literally
just him flexing on guys that you'll probably never see
again or like don't remember, just over and over again.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I don't know how.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Much money did he win, but when he when you
kept striking those cans, how much money did he.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Right? Ten thousand or something? But like if he hit
it ten times straight, I don't know if they were
doing it every time you hit it.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
It wasn't about the money, about sending a message.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Don't mess with the Prince.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
It was a cool flex though, because they put rocks
in the can so you could wouldn't knock it over.
And then he's just like, yeah, you guys are cheating,
and he lobbed it on a perfect angle that knocks
off the cap of the can so that the rocks
fall out, and then he gets continued to hit it
while having a conversation like it was just such a
ridiculous flex.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, dude.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
They were knocking each other out in one of the
matches of the of the of the tennis match too,
like hitting each other with the balls. One guy throw
a racket at the other guy hit him in the face.
I'm like, there's gonna be a knockout in this faster
than dodumento epo.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
I will say I love it when it's not great,
it's okay. I love the classic sports story of the
underdog and whatnot. I feel like Haq has one of
the best uh first episodes in sports anime. But I'm
not gonna lie. I kind of expected Ricon the vibe
with this one a little bit more, just because it
is somebody coming into a brand new environment. Like it's
a Nisa guy, right, and he is that overpowered main character.
(06:55):
He he was not even getting close to losing in
those first few, first few games.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
He already has the Fang girls as well, and he
doesn't remember their names even though he's met them twice. Now.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, yeah, he is too cool for that, honest sea.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I think that the overpowered main character from the get
go fits more towards other genres than sports, Like, for example,
is like that fits super well because it kind of
makes sense. He goes to another the world, he gets
all these powers. But for for a sports anime from
the get go, it's like I'm trying to say it's unrealistic.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Well yeah yeah, Prince of Tennis is not a realistic
sports anime, right, it has fun with it. I think
one of the closest comparisons would be like Currico No
Basket as far as uh it basically have superpowers, right,
like it definitely takes it to the extreme on tennis. Yeah,
it is superpowered tennis, but it's fun.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
I kind of agree with Rico where I do think
the having a powerful protagonist off the bat works with
other genres better. I do agree with that, but I
will say, like it's not unrealistic in the way that like,
why is this guy so good? He probably had a
racket in his hands since he was born, and now
he's buoying against people that, like a couple guys at
like the at the tryouts hadn't played tennis before or
(08:09):
like just started playing tennis. So like you're just following
the story of a different character. In high Q. There's
other characters that were beaese at the beginning. If we
followed their story, they would have been overpowered, right.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yep, yep. There's still value in that, right, And I
know I feel like tennis is one of those sports
in particular where there's just like levels to that stuff
that you don't quite realize. Like I went to a
pretty small school, right yeah, and eventually like I went
to the state tournament for tennis because I was a
decent athlete and I could kind of sometimes get the
ball over the net, and like that was about all
it took. Right, Like you just have to get it
(08:43):
back over more times than they can. It's like it's
kind of like us playing chess real quick, right, you
just got to try not the blunder because we're pretty
low elo, right, and then you go to that state
tournament and you see the bigger schools playing where there
are those kids that have just been doing it their
entire lives, and you're like, that's just an entirely different game.
They're just playing a whole different sport, right there. So
I did thirty.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I did pretty good when I did like the badminton
and the and the ping pong at my school, because
it was the same thing where it's like, if you're
just decently athletic, you're better than the people at your school.
But when I went to the tournament, I continue to
do well tennis, I got rolled, like I went. I
went to the tournament for tennis, and I like I
did well at my school, went to the tournament. In tennis,
I won like one game against a random person. The
second I would ever go advance to like even like
(09:24):
a second round. You play against these guys that have
been playing tennis their whole lives, and they just destroy you.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
You're better at those two.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, But I don't have the like the stories, like
the stories with like playing in school and then going
to these tournaments I have with badminton and and like
other sports, like random sports, like can't play my whole life,
like I'm for hockey now. I'm the person that if
you guys ran into a tournament, Like I didn't even
play for my high school team because it wasn't even
worth it, like I was. I was. I had my
own club team and my like my dad, I made
(09:54):
the high school team like in junior I made the
varsity team, like where it was grade twelve. I made
it when I was like twelve. We're thirteen and grade nine,
and my dad's like, you're not playing on that team.
It's not worth the time, like.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Because you've been playing for however long, for so long,
It's like.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
I went and had fun and played other sports like.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
For me hockey, I missed your hockey streams.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
You need to do one again, Honestly, I should. I
really should watch.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
I do hate the Leafs, though, I don't know if
that'll get me canceled or not.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
But dude, they're doing good. They folded yesterday, but we're
we're doing well. We're we're winning in Florida Panthers right now.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
It has nothing to do with the team themselves. It's
just I hate the name Leafs. Oh my gosh, has
a B in it. It's not even the right word.
It's not even a word. They can't English right where
the league lead. I would be on board at that
point that they if they have that rebranding, let me know.
I'm there, I'm at the game.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Oh my god, you're so funny. Honestly, I was never
very good at volleyball though growing up. Recond I played
in high school and like kind of continue to play
just for fun.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Is just a fun sport.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, yeah, I like it anyway. Let's all right, you
talking about anime? What is shall we? Shall we rate it?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Shall?
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Prince Tennis?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Remember break I remember when I told you and that
I was the Prince of Chess.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah, that was he.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Was the Prince of Chess. And then like his first
seven moves were all pawns.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
He did not break out any other pieces.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
I give. I'm gonna give Prince of Tennis. I'll give
it like a generous five out of ten.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I think that's fair. I'll give it a five point five.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I'm not gonna lie. I I'm just gonna rate it
based on what I had it rated prior, and I
also had it out of five. This is this is great.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
This is nice. So I've heard good things about the manga.
I'm sure it gets better. We only watched a couple
episodes as an introduction. I thought it was okay. Sadly,
whatever like version was online on every website was so
bad quality, Like I know it didn't look like that
because like other anime in the two thousands, did not
look pixelated, like it was fucking ripped off a VHS
(12:08):
tape and then thrown down the stairs and then recorded
on a camera. Like, I don't know why it was
so bad. I'm sure it's probably better on like Crunchie
or something.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I do love sports series in general, and it is fun.
It's it's a fun series. It's one I don't regret watching,
but it's just one that I don't know if i'd
ever go through and rewatch right like like some of
the others.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yeah, anyway, I would recommend you. Brigo watched them on
nine Animes. It's better. It's a really good anim.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Yeah, yeah, I watched them there. It was good quality. Really.
I went on like, yeah, three different sites, and they
always like they were super fixful. It was crazy.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
So there are a bunch of different seasons of printed, Okay,
never mind, you did explain the rock thing. I was like,
did you watch the right season? This is the first
season is like really good, but.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
The first season was like one hundred and sixty episodes
and then yeah, and the season two is thirteen or
twelve episodes.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, yeah, Okay, we're good.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Anyway, let's go into my pick. I want to hear
you guys talk about Berserk.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Oh boy, first time, first time watching desert Oh yeah, recone,
first time watching Berserk from the beginning, because you watch
some twenty sixteen back in the day, starting in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Seven Berserk, what are your thoughts reconned?
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Well, I've watched all of uh well, the newer Berserk,
not in twenty sixteen. I've watched the entire thing and
it was bad. Was there a second season to this?
I think there was.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
There may have been.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
I didn't watch it, So for nineteen ninety seven, there's not.
I think, like for the time season two as the
twenty sixteen version or something like that, usually how it goes.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
The twenty sixteen version also has a season two that
came out in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
I think, yeah, I think I've watched that I don't remember,
but uh, going now back to the nineties, oh boy,
it was. Well, the quality first is pretty shit. We'll
get that out of the way.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
I think it looks better than the twenty sixteen No
Cyah with no CGI. I genuinely think.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Yeah, I didn't have any CGI. It didn't have the CGI.
But still it kind of just hurts my eyes to
watch a bad visual looking anime. But yeah, here we
have the fake Black Swordsman walking into killing some some
bandits and saving a bunch of slave girls and he's
just showing off his big sword. Is like, oh my god,
(14:34):
it's the Black Swordsman. I'll call him the fake.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
But episode one, I will say. The reason why I'll
say maybe watch four episodes is because episode one does
take place like in the future, and then we get
a flashback, like then they think.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Yeah, and then we get a flush back.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
I thought. The rest of the season is like him
growing up and how he becomes who he is and
what happens to him right now.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
So it's like he joins a night school academy or
something to become like a better, like a brawler, to
fight better.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
That's where he not at all, not even close what
is what are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
What is the the night Squad or whatever.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
He's a mercenary.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
That's like hired.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
I was trying to find a word, to try to
find a word for that.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
The Mercenary Club. That's where he meets the band of
the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
That's where he gospel. I didn't know what it was
high school.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
He joined the Mercenary Club, you know of life.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Okay, okay, never mind, never mind, never forget about him.
It's a mercenary. It's a mercenary group that he joins.
And then he's just bad ass and everyone is like
shocked at just how good he is. And he defeats
this big ass, armored junkernut guy over there like it
was cool. That's where he meets Costca and also Griffith,
(16:04):
and Griffith bested him. Yeah, and uh, she's trying to like,
you know, she's trying. He wants to be better than Griffith.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
That.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I don't know if the hatred does start there towards
what he then does to Guts later on in the series,
but so far, it's it's it's looking promising, is what
I can say. I do like the characters a lot.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Okay, I'm glad there's a good action. You're like in
the action you have you watched it with your eyes closed.
He went to a high school.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
High school, the Mercenary.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Okay, and I will say so yeah, upon rewatching it,
I actually like appreciate it a lot more. I remember
not like loving the first episode or even like two
when I first started, and then it just gets better
and better and better, but actually understanding and knowing what's
going on the second time around, it's fucking peak. It's
such a masterpiece. I love it, Jordan, take it away.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
I love Berzerk. It's one of my all time favorite manga.
So but I really like the ninety seven series as
far as I think it's my favorite adaptation because they
knew it. They knew it wasn't going to yeah so
far they knew it was. They knew it wasn't going
to be uh like adapting the entire thing, right, but
they still wanted to nail in that first episode the
(17:20):
foreshadowing the kind of that the manga does, so you know,
it does things a little bit differently, it goes about
it differently, but it says, uh, you know, King Griffith,
you know, is being like this, and then it kind
of foreshadows all these things, like things are gonna go wrong,
These are gonna go awry. He's gonna be the Black Swordsman.
That's uh, you know, having to sleep with one eye
(17:42):
open and fight these monsters called the Fossils, and it's like,
how do you get to that point?
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
And it gives you all that in episode one, and
then it leads you back to kind of where he
came from, where he started at. And I love Guts,
He's one of my favorite characters. But uh, to start
contrast between the Band of the Hawk at the start
and where he ends up is one of those things
that kind of just sticks in the back of your
head throughout the entirety of that first arc, right, And.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I will say that is one thing because now that
I've watched it before and read the manga going back,
I appreciated episode one so much more because these things,
and I'm sure to recon as well, some of these
things that they're mentioning about King Griffin, Griffith Griffin, Oh
my god, k King Griffith, and like the brand and
the apostles mean fucking nothing to recon an episode.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Yeah, you've seen you've seen twenty sixteen, right, so you
can tell me.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yeah, I thought it was just confusing because I had
I had to have Briggs with me to help me out.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
But oh yeah, during.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Episode one, what was the deal with those demons saying
like your body is ours? Like, what does that even mean?
Speaker 2 (18:48):
He has the brand of sacrifice there on his neck?
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Right, Okay, what does that he do?
Speaker 2 (18:53):
So the entirety of Berserk as the series and stuff,
is kind of him with grits and determination going against itself, right.
He is constantly putting himself out there, putting himself at
the edge of death on the battlefield, things like that,
and uh. And it isn't until like episode two where
he meets the Band of the Hawk that he kind
of gets somebody who's willing to give that purpose, give
(19:15):
that meaning, give him a dream, the little things in life.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Right.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Good, Let me guess is that in Costca that's going
to give him that dream?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Yeah? Maybe maybe? Like I think it's kind of everybody, right,
the people you meet in your life that are important
to you, that have that impact on you. The entirety
of the Band of the Hawk is kind of that.
For Guts, and we see that they're not there in
episode one, right, we don't know how that happens. We
don't know how we get there. But he has all
these monsters coming after him. He's like they're constantly attracted
to that thing on his neck, and he's having to
(19:43):
sleep with one eye open because he he's just constantly
being swarmed and attacked by these things, right, and he's
also hunting them out and seeking them out things like that.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Even the way that he kills the demon is so
unlike him, and like you watch, if you watch like
the next like ten episodes or fifteen episodes of Berserk,
you'll notice like he's like, I feel like a ruthless
person and like very strong, but he's not the type
to like lose his mind killing the demon, like continuously
shoot it in the face and like be angry and
ruthless and like want revenge.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yeah, so there's some type of personal brudge there, right.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Yeah, this is a very tough situation because Ricon has
watched twenty sixteen and twenty twenty two, but he had
really he has never watched the nineteen ninety seven, so
he knows things, but we still can't spoil it for
him because these first twenty five episodes are so important
for the rest of Berserve. These first twenty five episodes
I watched on Netflix. Berser on Netflix.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
So I know you don't like like CGI type Anna
Mail a lot of the time recon but you might
like this one.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
So potenthel though I genuinely might continue in them.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I'm trying to think, because ninety seven is good at
capturing those quiet moments, it does take the whole twenty
five episodes to go over what people, a lot of
people consider one of the best arcs in all of fiction. Right,
is that's basically the origin story prior to twenty sixteen. Right,
It's It's it's more of a prequel, right, It's like
the prequel to kind of what comes after, and like
you saw the twenty sixteen that comes after, but that
(21:04):
prequel leading up to it is really good. And there
is a movie trilogy that covers that. It is partially
like CGI with some other beautiful scenic shots kind of
in it, but it is a movie trilogy that covers
everything that the ninety seven version covers. I don't know,
I feel like ricon my vibe with that more.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
You might vibe with.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
It more, for sure, The only thing that I remember
from like the twenty sixteen version was like Costco was
mind broken because of what Griffith did to her and
then guts us trying to save her and fighting all
these monsters and shit. But I kind of see where
this is going though, Yeah, I do. I should probably
continue watching the nineties version just to see how this
(21:43):
leads up to the events later on in twenty sixteen.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, that excites for me. It's a tough situation because
I we don't want to spoil it for you, even
though yeah, I know a lot of things. I do
like the fact that you're considering continuing to watch it though,
that makes me happy. I would love for you to
continue to watch it. We could talk about at a
little bit each week based off like whatever.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
If you want, we can do that. I can. I
can keep watching it for the next week if you
want to.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Absolutely, Yeah, I'm done with that because it just makes
me so happy.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
That's a w It's one of those where I think
the movies actually do a pretty good decent job of
like the action scenes and things like that comparatively, because
ninety seven is a little bit dated, but like ninety
seven just does such a good job of capturing that
like the heart of Berserk and like those quiet moments
and things like that that I don't know, the little
things are so important, right and stuff like that, those
character based those stories.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
I also like the way The ninety seven handled certain
things because in the in the manga, there's like they're
a little bit more gruesome with a couple of things
in regards to like the sexual assault and like the
rape and stuff, but they still told it without telling
it this time around, and it makes moments like guts
(22:54):
when the guy touches his arm in episode one, he's like,
don't touch me, don't touch me, starts losing his mind.
It makes like it makes it so much more impactful
knowing what I know now. And then they do go
on to like kind of explain it with his dream
and with Gambino and whatever, but they don't fully like
don't touch me, don't touch me whatever. Yeah, Like they
(23:15):
just don't fully show it, And I kind of like
the artistic way of doing that and also making it
a little bit easier for me to watch, which you know, yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
A weird mix because you can tell they're trying not
to go too into detail. Of like the specifics and
things like that, but it implies it. And then that's
what I mean when I says it does a great
job of capturing the heart, because like it does capture,
you know, the character of Guts and like the fact
he doesn't like to be touched, right, like the little
things that led up to who he is as a
person and kind of where he's at on his journey.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
So I'm just really I'm very interested in seeing, like
how Griffith becomes the main villain because during the first
during the first like two three episodes, he's just a
chill guy, Like he's good at he's goods at his swordsmanship,
and yeah, he's better than Guts for what it seems.
But how did he like lead up to the events
(24:04):
later on like that, That's what I'm interested in.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
I'm actually a little sad that you've watched the twenty
sixteen and twenty two because twenty twenty two because for me,
the ending of this season was one of the most heartbreaking, shocking,
impactful episodes in anime. And I literally watched any to
check I wasn't part of any anime community. I wasn't
spoiled in any way for it, So when I went
into it, I'm just like, what the fuck is going on?
(24:26):
It makes it I think it's but like.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
I think it can still kind of do that, Like
I don't think it's still graining. I haven't seen the
twenty sixteen version, but like I said, the manga starts
out with like a couple different chapters kind of like
the first episode does of the Black Swordsman and kind
of where he's at, and then it shows.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
You know, yeah, in retrospect, of course it was shown.
It was definitely shown exact. But for me when I
when I when I first experienced it, I think I
watched the first episode, I'm like, I don't know what
the fuck happened, And then like I watched the next
twenty or twenty the next twenty four episodes over the
course of like a month or two probably so or
like like a month, so I forgot about the first
(25:05):
episode when like, yeah, ship starts going.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Down, right, I guess in my head and stuff, like
I had that in the back of my head. I
remember whenever I was reading it the first time, like
it's just in the back of your head the whole time,
Like how did we end up there? Versus where we're at, right,
and that start contrast, like it's just in the back
of your head throughout that entire first arc, and then uh,
it just kind of like it is for recon right now,
like how did we get there? So, but you know what,
it will hopefully it keeps it going.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I think it'll suck you up here a long time.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
So I don't remember all because it has been a
long time. So but yeah, I'll continue watching it.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Cool, let's go.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
So maybe instead of doing that a chat pick, we
could just continue to watch Brazerkle have one, and then
we still recommend like three episodes of another. Finally Berserk
Virgin confirms, and who would have thought? It's anime recon
let's go, let's go, Okay, next anime real drop belt
(26:00):
Gabriel drop sounds good to me.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
All right, so what did you guys think of franch
No really, not not actually trash, but the trash it was.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
It was fun, it was funny. It was the stupidest
thing I've ever seen. So Gabriel obviously a woman, and
even what's what's the other? Raphael obviously a woman?
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Yeah, Gabriel, Gabrietanya and yeah, Butanya sounds like at least
Satanya sounds like a what's it called a girl name?
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Anyway, Gabriel is like the number one angel in Heaven,
sent down to Earth to do good stuff for the world,
becomes addicted to video games and micro transactions and becomes
a shut in and definitely loses herself along the way.
Is no longer very angelic, and it's comedic and funny
as hell. I actually did enjoy it. Satan, which is
(27:01):
who is from Hell, is like doing like I'm so bad,
I'm not gonna do my homework. I'm gonna do like
the most like minor tiny like little like little little offenses,
and it's so cute and funny. And then she even
sees Gabriel like not pick up her the soda or
something from the floor, and he's like, She's like, how
(27:23):
could an angel not clean up after herself? Like the
way that they completely switch, and then Rafael is just
I don't know what's wrong with her. She's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Yeah, she's very manipulative. I will say I do enjoy
that about this series, Like I feel like, watching three episodes,
I kind of get the gist of it and what
it's gonna be about overall, and I don't think it's
going too many places with it if I had the guess,
But the characters themselves, it plays off of just being
a stark contrast to expectations, right, betraying expectations. You got
(27:56):
the two angels, you would expect them to be angelic,
and Gambrielle was at the start, but uh, but they
are everything that kind of is counterintuitive to that, And
same goes for the devils, right, and then uh, there's
a lot of little skits, a lot of little jokes,
and a lot of the jokes are kind of based
off that same premise of, uh, you know, what do
you expect to happen versus what actually happens. So, like
(28:17):
my favorite ones were Sitanya. You know, they're trying to
play She's the butt of a lot of jokes, kind
of deservedly so she she kind of brings it upon herself,
but they try to like prank her, like, yeah, you know,
just pour pour some dashes of spice into that into
that udan you got there, and that's probably seven as
she does like thirty different ones, but then jokes on them.
(28:38):
She's like, jokes on you, This actually tastes good. Now
let me do it for you too, and then she
turns it around on them, right, So it's like she
thinks she's gonna be the butt of the joke and
then she's not. It's just the whole anime is betraying
expectations and being opposite of what it leads you to believes.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
And it's cute. It's fun, it's funny. For some reason,
I compared it to Kaon while I was watching it,
when it's not like kay On it all, but some yeah,
maybe that's somehow like the person.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
It would be kind of like, to be honest, because
after like the first episode, it just goes into shenanigans. Yeah,
kind of like that.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Pretty much the shenanigans that started. I know it's not
like Kayan at all, but for some reason, it gave
me the vibes, even though I watched so many other
animes that you should be closer to it. It's just
more I feel like the actual character personalities just I
don't know, it gave me a similar vibe. I love Kon,
so yeah, I think I should probably keep on watching this.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
This one is cute. It is cute. I will say
it's the same director as Nokoton. I feel like it
probably some similar things. So it is that very much
like this sketch comedy type of thing. Yeah, same director.
It's very much that sketch comedy type of thing where
you get these cute girls, you get, uh, you give
them these distinct personalities, and then you let the Shenanigans
(29:54):
kind of happen, uh, happen naturally, right, So Raphael is
very manipulative. Wri was a gamer like she was. She
was that nice kid that was sheltered a little bit
too much, that was the perfect role model student until
she became a gamer. You know, That's just kind of
how it happens. Then she becomes relatable. But uh, yeah,
I don't know. It was cute, it was funny.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Well, I'm glad you both liked it. Oh yeah, we didn't.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
We didn't rude Berserk and we didn't rate.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Oh shit berserk for me. I would give it a
seven out of ten so far.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Jordan, Yeah, probably seven for for the ninety seven version.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Honestly, Like obviously there's certain things that probably it wasn't
like exactly like the manga. Maybe the animation is a
little dated. Some of the like the cuts that he
cuts people and the horse in half or whatever. You
don't get to see as much as maybe they did
in the movie, which was cool and like the actual
blood rang out. I still give it like an eight
point five, dude, I thought that introduction was beautiful, nice.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
All right, what about what would you got? Right?
Speaker 1 (31:00):
It like a six point five enough to keep on watching?
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Okay, I guess I'm gonna give it a four. I
enjoyed it. I did have fun with it, but it's
one of those where I feel like it's not one
that would keep my interest throughout the entirety of the
of the run, just unless it goes somewhere. If it
goes somewhere, I might keep watching it, but it's like, Yeah,
it's one where it was kind of funny, but it
didn't make me laugh as much as nocton Humor is
(31:25):
one of those subjective things where I don't know what
it is. I did enjoy it, but I didn't laugh
as much.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Yeah, you get to laugh a lot because of the
thing that she does.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
I feel like it's one of those where it's like,
just does the humor hit or no? And it hits sometimes,
but not enough for me to like continuously go on
my way to watch it on this one.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Okay, all right, Dream Bang Dream. I've Mudrica though, Yep, yep,
no boy die his cast. Okay, you know what, the
old boy, the old Boy recon you go first. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
I suffer through this one. I hate it. It's just
exactly exactly the same as the pretty much the same
fucking formula.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Might help you love.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
I mean pretty much. Whatever we said last dream about
Bang Dream it implies to this second season everything that
we've said. I hated it. The visual it was, ship
music was good, yes, but I just can't. I can't
handle that animation in the three D c G I man,
it's really awful.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
That's so saying.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
You know what, if you didn't like the three D
animation last time, you're not gonna like it this time.
And if you and if you found it boring last time,
you're probably not gonna like it this time. I do think.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Everything what I said before goes straight to this one.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
I do think the three D animation has gotten a
little bit better than in the other one, And like
I do like when they're doing the performances, the different
like angles that the three D animation, like what they
do with it. Different perspectives is cool, I will say,
I I still don't love the that there all their
faces are like the same three D art style. Still
not in love with the look. Obviously, I'm there with
(33:08):
you recon I do think plot wise, this was better
ridden and it gave us some of the so a
lot of the questions that I wanted to know in
the first three episodes of Bang Dream I got the
answer to in the first three episodes of Ave Mujica,
which I was not expecting.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
That's why I wanted to watch this season because I
didn't know either. I was right there with you.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
What did you get through this?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
The first Bang Dream its might go. It starts off
with the band with one of the bands like this
forming and like falling apart. One of the girls comes
in and it's like I'm I don't want to do
this anymore where I'm like I'm leaving, and then the
other girls like I never had fun once in my
life doing this or something like two comments that like
came out of like out of nowhere, and I didn't
know why. I was like making guesses about like jealousy
(33:55):
and like thinking that they're going to fail or not
being able to handle the criticism online or stuff that
I had all these theories and then season one start
or season one of this comes out and the person's
mom died and then dad lost like sixteen point eight
billion in like fraud, and she like left for a bit,
and so she left for that reason, I think, And
(34:15):
then the other girl was like, what was it? She
was like self conscious of her ability to perform and
was so worried about like not being able to meet
people with expectations. I don't even fully fully remember what
it was, but it was something along those lines. So
she wasn't having fun anymore and was worried about like
(34:36):
other people and stuff. So when that person said she
was gonna quit, she like was like, oh, I'm not
having fun anyway type of thing. And she's the one
that had like the whole meltdown on stage and this
one because she's like having like a like a mental
breakdown type of stuff, that type of thing.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, And I'm so glad that you're watching the entire
thing and just explaining it, explaining it, because I'm just
skimming through this one.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Oh no, it's tough a little it this one is.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
It's so tough watching it. I couldn't do it.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Yeah, I think Briggs kind of nails it. There's five
members of that original band, christ Shik that we see
at the very first scene of My Go, like the
break of that of that band. Three of them go
on to you know, join My Go and they have
their story there, and then there's two that like we
just don't know what's going on with them right, where
like we'd have so many questions we don't really get answers,
and then this series is their story and it kind
(35:23):
of tackles that, right. So we we see the Twin
Tails girl has a lot of personal issues at home
that she's kind of trying to escape from. She she
wants to go pro and kind of puts everything into
into this band, this vision that she has, and she's, uh,
she's going all out for that vision so much so
that she kind of becomes a little bit what do
(35:46):
you call it whenever you you kind of zone in
on something tunnel vision, Yeah, to where she's not really
appreciating the people around her quite as much. And then
we get an arc on I believe her name's moved
to me, the guitarist from the original band, and she's
the one we knew the least about right, But turns
out her parents were both superstars or celebrities in their
(36:07):
own right. She kind of grew up in their shadow.
So she has a lot of that experience with acting
and stuff from being a kid, but she just isn't
that's just not really her personality wise. She didn't like
being in their shadow. She finally found a love for
the guitar. She's like, this is kind of my thing,
and and she practiced every day long and hard, became
really good at it. Took a lot of pride in
(36:28):
that skill. And then you know, we see that kind
of all come crashing down here once the dye is cast,
because there's a lot of big personalities coming together in
this band. There's a and and you know, they all
have different kind of visions for what they kind of
wanted to be. So the purple hair girl, the drummer,
she's a YouTuber. She makes makeup videos and stuff, and
(36:50):
like she's kind of coming in from the standpoint of
less about the artistic vision more of I want to
be an entertainer, right, Like I want to entertain the people.
And it's really a massive one trying to do that. Yeah,
and you can't really undo that at that point that
day is cast and uh, and you know that who
does that affect the most? The guitar is too. She
(37:11):
you know, this was her way of kind of separating
from her personal identity and just being able to just
fully give herself to the guitar and play there. And yeah,
we see that kind of come crashing down and how
that affects her mentally and psychologically and emotionally and and
things like that, right, because she's not good at expressing herself.
We see that because she blames herself for how that
first fell apart.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Front count front half the time, and then she don't.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Come out right yeah, like and uh, and then we
see like all all that suppression, you know what they say,
false uh, false smiles or false tears bring pain to others,
but false smile brings pain to oneself. So she acts
like everything's okay, but like inside, she's kind of bottling
it up. And then we see at the end of
that third episode and whatnot, like the uh, everything that
(37:55):
she's kind of suppressed down this entire time just kind
of consumes her, right and like it becomes too much,
It just kind of unleashes until it breaks her in
a way. So I don't know, I enjoy it. I
enjoy like the mix of like character study versus drama
versus band music. Right, so it's a it's a weird mix.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
But I will say sometimes during these big events, I'm
miss waiting for the event to happen, like the performance,
to see what's gonna happen, or like the I'm almost
like looking for the reveal, and sometimes the dialogue along
the way, I'm like, hurry the fuck up a little bit. Yeah,
that's why I feel like so Ricon that didn't know
what's going on, it's probably just boreded of his mind.
(38:36):
He's like, this looks ugly and they're talking. They're talking
a lot, but I'm thinking of like the previous season.
I'm like, who's this character? Who's this character? Are we
going to get the reveal? And then we finally get
it and I'm happy. I will say, like it's not amazing.
The reveals are good, but sometimes along the way, I'm
not loving it.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Yeah, pretty much relating You pretty much explained exactly what
I did.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Yeh know.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Definitely not for everybody. I think the people that do
watch it usually tend to enjoy it, which is why
it's rated so high. Yeah, but yeah, that's what I've
been trying to do, is try to try to recommend
shows I know you guys would probably never watch otherwise,
but that I enjoyed whenever I came across.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
So okay. Also, the ending of the third episode was crazy.
So the girl yeah, moots to me, who's like really
shy and like can't speak her mind, and when she does,
she thinks she ruins everything right, which makes it harder
for her to even talk. She has the moment where
she like collapses on stage, and then they thought it
was a performance and they wanted more of that, which
(39:33):
was which was interesting. But then at the very very
end of Apoo three, she like takes on this whole
new persona and goes crazy and I don't know what's
going on, but I liked it.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's I still don't quite know how
to explain that either I haven't seen much more than you,
but uh, I like the build up to that too,
where everybody in the band's kind of arguing. They're all
kind of have their own you know, they have their
own approaches to how they want to do it. One
wants to be you know, they're like, we got to
be entertaining, we gotta do what the people want. And
then one has more of an artistic vision and they're
(40:02):
kind of all kind of going at it a bit
and Muchimi's just standing there and you kind of hear
her ears ringing, like she's kind of looking at it,
does that first person's perspective thing again, right where you
could just tell she's overwhelmed with anxiety at like everything
kind of happening around her. And uh, there's trains going on.
There's just information overload, right or sensory overload. So she
tries to talk to the Twin Tail girl about it,
(40:23):
and Twin Tail girls so focused in on the band
itself right on, this is all I have. This is
uh that she kind of makes her about herself rather
than listening to uh. And did she even goes to
that breaking point right yeah, because she just I feel
so isolated. She's like, you get why facing herself. She's like,
(40:44):
the one on my side is me, I choose me.
I think that's kind of what happened at the end
of the third episode.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
I don't know, but maybe I actually kind of want
to watch it with four to see where like I
don't know expa for that, I will say, understandable why
Psycho the twin hair or whatever, like the one with
the pigtails or whatever kind of had that reaction because
that's all she has left. You lost her father and
her mother, and like she dedicated herself to the band
in music. So that's what I love about hyper focus,
(41:11):
And she's not seeing what other people are going through.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Yeah, And that's what I love about this type of
series too, is none of the characters are like bad
or evil or the villain, right, Like, they just kind
of all have their own circumstances and things they're going through. So, uh,
I don't I don't think the the YouTuber girls necessarily
in the wrong either. Whenever she's like joining in, she's like,
you know, we got some big names here, we got
some big faces, Like let's make the use. Let's make
the most of that, right, Like, uh, that's gonna help
(41:37):
us reach the big time, Like why not make the
use of all the weapons we have? Right?
Speaker 1 (41:41):
And I think they always had the plan to unmask it.
She just did it without telling them and communicating a
little bit early.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
You know, she was pretty selfish in that way, right,
and then you can't undo that, so it's uh so, yeah,
it's just a lot of big personalities flashing, a lot
of a lot of drama. I don't know, I have fun.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
My thing is what happened to Tamury, the girl who
was heartbroken when it was broken up the first time?
Where is she at?
Speaker 2 (42:02):
So the thing is that first season was my Go
and all the Avid Musica characters that are in it
are kind of just in the background. And we see
the my Go characters about as much as we saw
those Aba Musica characters just kind of in the background there,
like we see them to more like once or twice
in the background, but like she's not a main character, right,
and then uh season three. Season three is called Avid
Musica Slash. It's my go. So, like, I don't know
(42:25):
what the excited it might have both I don't know
all the characters.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
This is crazy.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
It's a shared universe breaks, the possibilities are limitless. That's
it's the potential that's exciting.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Anyway, boys, let's go ahead and rate this and then
recommend anime for next week.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Okay, sounds good?
Speaker 1 (42:42):
All right, recon what are you reading this?
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Out of ten? A solid one?
Speaker 3 (42:47):
One out of ten.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
We didn't go down to a point five.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Give it. I'm gonna give it a five.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
I'll take it. I'll take it, Jordan. I mean, yeah,
I don't know if I want to rate my own series,
but i'd probably give it like a seven or eight.
Thus far, I'm enjoying it so nice.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
You know what. The music was good too.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
I will say that I do love the Avid music
of music. It has that like hard rock, kind of
kind of metalish vibe. But it's the one I I
vibed with the music the most out of all the
music series I've watched.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
So yeah, anyway, let's go ahead and recommend anime for
next week. What are you thinking? Jordan? Uh? Do you
want me to go first?
Speaker 2 (43:28):
So yeah, you can go first.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
There's a new enemy on Netflix called Devil May Cry.
DMC watched it, well.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
The one with Dante?
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Or like based on the old games or whatever? I
never played them. I just love the games.
Speaker 1 (43:47):
Don't say any opinions on a rica. I still want
to do it, Okay, I haven't watched it yet. We'll

bass pic. It's kind of crazy.

to he doesn't band, yeah, people, I don't know if
he hates girls bands or what. But it's so sad.
So I ran a poll on Twitter. So that's how
I decided mine. I chose four completely, you know, Unlike
(45:11):
the characters in the anime completely unrelated series. You know
that that I've seen that I kind of liked, and
uh I knew you guys probably hadn't seen. And the
one that came out on top was or a Emo.
