A lowbrow-loving New Yorker and a Texan Poet divided by experience are united by a love of genre fiction. This is their book club. You better Read This F***ing Book!
Long promised and not forgotten, Elena and Rachel are back to talk about the gentleman bastards of The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. It's a bit of a heist, a bit of a mystery, with a lot of swashbuckling flair and enormously engrossing world-building.
As always, beware spoilers!

Rachel rec'd her favorite book of the year for this spooky-season episode of RTFBPodcast and Elena loved it. We're reading Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. The story of a smart-ass sword fighter and the necromancer she loves/hates (and there's MURDER). Come for the skeletons! Stay for the emotions! Gideon the Ninth is like nothing you've read before. Rejoice, the sequel (Harrow the Ninth) is out June 2020.

We are back after our summer off! We're reading Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker. This is Elena's first dip into the Cosmere and Rachel's favorite of Sanderson's works. We talk about why fantasy is a great space to write about religion, why Nightblood is our favorite and debate the husbandly merits of Vasher vs Lightsong.

Elena and Rachel read Anne Bishop's Daughter of the Blood in this episode of RTFBPodcast. Lots of similarities to some of our other favorites with a few caveats that made us give our first Content Warning (rape, incest, sexual violence, pedophilia).
Talking through what we liked and what made us uncomfortable brought a greater enjoyment of the story and for levity... there ARE magical cock rings. Oh and uh, NSFW. Use those headpho...
