Episode 26 - Who's Good?

How do sinful people get right in the sight of a Holy God? He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. Romans 2:6‭-‬11 ESV For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. Romans 2:12‭-‬13 ESV What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." Romans 3:9‭-‬12 ESV Understand a few things. No one is “good”. All fall short of God's perfect standard for living People create their own standards and categories to excuse perfection and excellence. Why do you think people consider themselves to be good people? What is the standard God uses to determine who will go to heaven? Since we aren't perfect and we can meet the standard of the law, God provided a solution for us in Jesus Christ. Christ paid the debt of our sin(death on the cross) so we can receive the perfect life Christ lived as if we lived it. This is the only way sinful people can be made right before God. What does justification mean? It is a courtroom term and it means to be declared righteous by God based on Christ's work. Declare = announce. Pronounce or assert(a person or thing) to be something specified. Why do we need to be justified before God? But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:21‭-‬24‭, ‬26 ESV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
