Sanya (00:07):
This is not a video.
When I was coming out, we hadto go outside the city.
Jamie (00:12):
We had to go travel, go
out of town, beat down doors.
This was the first time Billhas ever gone on this set.
Sanya (00:19):
He said here comes the
token.
This is not a video.
And out of my mouth I said Fyou, my fans are asking for
positive women with family andbusiness.
That's what we bring to theshow and yet still it's like, oh
, she's boring.
It's my real story.
This is really who I am.
I build myself off a dollar anda dream without a man's help,
(00:42):
without a basketball player.
Particularly, the patriarchalbox says white, cisgender males
have defined for us should behow we define ourselves.
That's what they were saying onthe street.
I didn't say it.
That's what they were saying onthe street the streets, the
avenues and the bulletin.
Welcome, welcome, welcome.
(01:06):
You're now tuned into anotheramazing edition of Sanya on Air,
where I unpack celebritypivotal moments and their
milestones.
I'm your host, sanyaHudson-Pain, and today I have an
exciting show for you.
Now, who isn't tuned intoreality television?
Each and every single day, itseems like reality television is
(01:27):
taking over scripted television.
Now, if you're tuned intoreality television, like I am,
that's my guilty pleasure.
What about you?
Is that your guilty pleasuretoo?
I watch the most ratchettelevision, and then we'll turn
to a documentary right after Now.
Today's guest he is part of owntelevision's Love and Marriage
(01:50):
DC.
Now if you've been watchingthis spin-off show, remember the
first of the Love and Marriagefranchise was Love and Marriage
Huntsville.
So now we have Love andMarriage DC and we're so used to
the women leading thenarratives on these reality
shows, but now the husbands, they're finding their voices and
they're taking over.
(02:11):
So I have Jamie Tyler III.
Now you may know him and hiswife because they are super
fabulous, super amazing.
His wife is Irana Tyler, dressed to the nines, dressed to
the gods.
Both of them.
I really look at them like thisdynamic power couple.
Not only is he a part ofreality television, but during
(02:32):
his first season he was adetective who was soon to retire
.
Now he stepped fully into theretirement zone, but just
imagine being a detective tryingto arrest someone.
They're like wait a minute, didn't I see you on own network
last night arguing with yourwife, arguing with your other
cast members?
So we're going to find outabout his firsts.
(02:53):
How did he get on realitytelevision?
I really want you to get tounderstand all of these people
behind the television camera, because you just see what they
want you to see.
But I'm going to ask him a fewquestions, like when was the
first time you lost yourvirginity?
Those are the type of questionsI want to know, so make sure
(03:13):
that you stay tuned in.
But before I bring Jamie ontothis edition of Sonya On Air, I
have a few things that I want totalk about.
Now.
There's this conversation thatis becoming a resounding
conversation on television, across streaming platforms and
in real life black-owned versusblack targeted, and I think that
(03:37):
people are now starting tounderstand the difference.
You see all of these shows withan all black cast on some
networks that have the wordbliggly black in it, but it
doesn't mean that it isblack-owned.
For example, the Oprah WinfreyNetwork.
Okay, it just so happens that Ihave Jamie Tyler.
(03:58):
His show, love and Marriage DC,is on the Oprah Winfrey Network
.
Now, when the Oprah WinfreyNetwork first launched, of
course Oprah Winfrey was thefounder.
She was a majority shareholder, but then things started
happening.
She sold a huge portion of theOprah Winfrey Network to the
(04:21):
Discovery Channel.
Did you know that?
So, first the Discovery Channel.
They came in in 2017, and theybought just a little bit of
portion.
Then, in 2020, they owned 73%of the own network.
Now, in 2024, they own 95% ofthe network.
(04:44):
So it is no longer black-owned,which makes it black targeted.
Now let me show you an exampleof black-owned versus black
targeted.
Now, this movie is a remake andit has been just on everyone's
radar for the past, I would saytwo months.
The color purple.
(05:05):
Now, many people would thinkthat the color purple was
black-owned because you have bignames such as Oprah Winfrey
behind it.
So therefore, we showed up andwe showed out because of the all
black cast Spent our money, told the kids you're not getting
any Christmas presents becauseI got to go see the color purple
(05:26):
and guess what Remakes billions, maybe even millions, maybe
billions, I don't know.
But we raised a lot of moneyfor that film.
But guess what?
The owners of that film is notblack-owned.
So what happens is a lot ofthese white corporations, a lot
of these white organizations.
They come in and they know whatthe black audience is like,
(05:49):
because we are the number onedollar spenders, we watch the
most television, so they createcontent that is geared strictly
towards us, but the money goesto them.
So we have to be mindful of themessaging.
We have to be mindful of who weare giving our hard-earned
money to.
Because I ain't got it, matterof fact, I need to borrow five
(06:09):
dollars, okay.
So once again, black-ownedversus black targeted.
Now talking about reality TV, Idon't know if it's becoming
entertainment or anger-teamant.
A lot of this reality TV that Isee it is so stereotypical I'm
talking about on the black sideand on the white side too, very,
(06:31):
very stereotypical.
But let's just talk about theblack narratives on reality
television.
Now, going back to the OprahWinfrey Network when it was
black-owned by Miss OprahWinfrey black-owned versus black
targeted when it wasblack-owned, let me give you an
example of some of the showsthat was on the own network
(06:52):
Greenleaf canceled.
Queen Sugar canceled.
David Makes man canceled.
Sweetie Pie's love me, someSweetie Pie's canceled.
Beverly's Full House canceled.
Then, when all of those blackshows became canceled, we
(07:15):
started to see the emergence ofthese black targeted shows Ie,
love and Marriage, dc Love andMarriage, huntsville Bell
Collective, ready to Love.
The content started to change.
The content started to changeand then I was looking at, well,
(07:36):
talking to some other businessprofessionals who are in the
media space, the televisionspace, and they were saying that
there's just some genre, somecontent that is so difficult to
sell because black audiencesaren't watching.
So therefore, this is why theyare ushering in so many reality
shows.
Once again, it's turning fromentertainment to anger-tainment.
(08:00):
So we have to be careful aboutwhat we are watching on
television.
Now just talk about other blackshows canceled in 2023.
And we're only in three weeks, into January 2024.
Shows already canceled IssaRae's RAPISH I'm so, so
frustrated and angry about that.
That was a awesome, awesome, awesome show.
(08:21):
If you haven't caught up onRAPISH, make sure that you go to
I forgot HBO Max.
It's on HBO Max.
Make sure you catch the firstand second season because,
darling, like I said, it wascanceled.
Another show GRONISH canceled.
Everything's trash starringPhoebe Robinson Cancelled.
(08:42):
Legendary Cancelled.
Kendrick Cancelled.
A Black Lady sketch showCancelled.
The game rebelled Cancelled.
The Wonder Year's remakeCancelled.
We really have to support blackowned and not just black
targeted.
There is a huge, hugedifference.
(09:04):
So please make sure that youadd those terms to your
vernacular, because black ownedversus black targeted is two
different things.
We don't want people to createcontent.
To me.
It's just like I can't say thisword because YouTube will flag
it, and I was about to go ontomy Sanya rant.
We have to make sure that we arebeing mindful of the subliminal
(09:29):
messaging that programming isinstilling into our minds and
our psyche, because then youfind yourself behaving that way.
Now, like I told you at theonset of this conversation, I
watch some of the most ratchetshows, but there's a balance.
There's a balance.
I can't fill my whole TVviewership with a certain type
(09:50):
of show, because that kind ofspeaks to who I am.
And once again, the blackexperience is not a monolith.
It has so many different layersand I'm just encouraging you
all to just tap into it.
If you haven't watched adocumentary in a few years, put
it on your to-do list for theweek.
We have to start showing thesetelevision executives that we
(10:13):
are tuned into all types ofgenre, not just the
stereotypical genre that theywrite for us and it's not really
capturing our experience.
So make sure that you aremindful about that.
Now, carlos King.
He is producing a lot of shows,a lot of reality shows on the
(10:34):
Oprah Winfrey network.
I think he's doing a great job.
He's also kind of tapped intothe blogging space.
We don't want to call him ablogger.
Shout out to Dr Simone fromMarried to Medicine, a past
Sanya on your guest.
But sometimes it seems as if hehas favorites, especially when
it comes to love and marriageHuntsville.
You can tell that is his babyand I just want to know from
(11:00):
Jamie Tyler's perspective isCarlos giving love and marriage
DC the same amount of love andattention that he's given to
love and marriage, huntsville, and also Bell Collective.
So why don't we do this?
Let's take a quick commercialbreak and I'll be right back
with Sanya on air and also JamieTyler.
(11:22):
Oh, I forgot, I forgot.
Like I said, I've been out ofthe studio for quite some time.
Make sure you subscribe Sanyaon air streams across just about
every major streaming platform.
If you're watching this onYouTube, not only subscribe, and
make sure you hit thenotification bell.
That way, every time I uploadan all new Sanya on air
celebrity interview unpackingtheir pivotal moments and their
(11:43):
milestones, will be the firstones to know.
So why don't we do this?
Why don't we jump into a quickcommercial break from my show
sponsor, instacart, and do alittle shopping during the
commercial break and then comeon back with Sanya on air and
Jamie Tyler?
The third will be right back.
Shop eligible items onInstacart and get $20 off in
(12:07):
order of $35 or more when youcheck out using your FSA HSA
card.
You can do this all in threesimple steps One, add your FSA
HSA card to shop for eligibleitems and three, check out with
FSA HSA using the special code.
(12:28):
Now let's get to shopping.
Yes, so let me tell you whathappened.
Jamie (12:32):
I had to be in DC today
for a ceremony, so I'm flying
back out my way to get on mycomputer and that Wi-Fi went out
.
Sanya (12:46):
Oh it happens.
I'm praying for the Wi-Fi godsthat it don't interrupt my
computer.
So you're all good, Okay.
Because they call it me likethe Wi-Fi.
Jamie (12:55):
I said, okay, what you
telling me for?
I said it's probably Xfinity.
And then I got a text sayingsorry, it's an out of junior
neighborhood, it should bebacked by five o'clock.
Sanya (13:07):
I said oh my God, oh wow.
Jamie (13:08):
So I called my daughter
because she lives near me.
I said you home.
I said I need to come up, youknow, sit in here.
She's like come on, I'm here.
But she got it.
I love it.
Sanya (13:17):
I love it when the
children come to the rescue when
Wi-Fi works.
Jamie (13:22):
I'm like.
I'm like do you got a light?
Do you got a thing?
She's like I don't have none ofthat.
Sanya (13:27):
I said all right, fuck it
, we'll make it work.
We'll make it work.
But let me tell you something, jamie I'm a fan.
I'm a fan of you and your wifejust representing for Black Love
on Love and Marriage DC.
How did you get introduced tothe show so?
Jamie (13:42):
we got introduced by
Monique Samuels and I'm like I'm
a fan of you and your wife justrepresenting for Black Love on
Love and Marriage, dc andCharley, I suppose to be this
way, right, you're fine.
So Fatoma had reached out toRaina as a friend of the show
with Monique, one of her own.
There were her before she leftas a friend.
Uh-huh, and soon as she saidshe'd do it, she left.
(14:08):
So then Carlos called Moniqueabout love and marriage and said
I want y'all to you knowaudition.
And we did and they picked us.
Sanya (14:19):
Wow.
Well, speaking of Monique, youknow I wasn't even going to
steer the question towards her,but we definitely miss her on
love and marriage DC.
You know she transitioned fromthere from Potomac.
Housewives of Potomac.
Do you miss Monique being onthe show?
Jamie (14:33):
I do miss Monique,
because Monique was the veteran
in that world we want and whenwe came in she had like dudes
and dunks and she kind of brokeit down like we're not doing
this to have, you know, theTerry Chow emerges and tap
families and we all met beforethe first, I guess, production
(14:58):
meeting and we all want the samepage and as soon as she left it
went out the window.
So now everybody's beefing, asyou can probably see.
Sanya (15:08):
Yes, everybody's beefing
and we're highly anticipating
the start of this new season.
But even though Monique gaveyou the do's and the don'ts, is
there anything that you and yourwife did on the show that you
watched and you now regret?
Jamie (15:27):
Now that I regret.
I mean I just think for us beingtogether 30 plus years, it was
a lot of old stuff that she feltlike she had to bring back up
for drama, because we kind of atpeace right now.
So it was like you want me totalk about 15 years ago or 20
years ago, Like what were wetalking about?
(15:48):
Because I wasn't going backdown that road.
I mean, some of that stuff wasreally really touching and I
didn't want to revisit it.
So when she did, I think Ico-held for some of my reactions
season one, and I was like Isaid, I mean I did this for you,
I didn't care about reality, and then you're going to go back
(16:10):
down a memory lane or some shit.
I did when I was like 30 yearsold.
I'm 50, now About to be 51.
And we still talking about that.
Well, they need drama.
And then I said, yeah, but Iain't what I signed up for.
And you saw real reactions fromme in them, scenes Like, oh, so
you planned with me for aproduction, ok.
Sanya (16:33):
You know, women, we never
forget anything.
We'll bring up something.
Jamie (16:37):
And look, we don't either
.
So that's why I'm going to comeback on.
You're going to see us haveanother blow up of old shit, and
it's the same.
I was like you want me toco-sign your thoughts when I had
those same thoughts when theshoes was reversed and you was
like, oh you tripping, youtripping, you going to know it's
(16:58):
the same shit.
Sanya (17:00):
So how do you handle that
?
Let's say, you know, camerasrolling, Irana brings up
something that you did not knowabout, Like do you just go with
the flow or do you wait untilthey say cut?
And you'd be like no, wait agoddamn minute, Like what was
that?
I think I show.
Jamie (17:13):
I'm a react, really All
reaction.
Yeah, even at the reunionseason one, when they followed
us walking off set and I said Itold you stop playing me, you
going to make me really act upon this reunion.
And then they turned out to meoh my god, he's going to beat
(17:34):
her up.
I learned in this world youcan't win.
Like you got to really, reallywatch what you say in New York
to that microscope.
Sanya (17:42):
Yes, yes.
So how did you take it?
Because you know your life ison display for all of reality
television.
We see the dynamics of yourrelationship with your wife and
your children.
How do you handle some of thebacklash that the audience gives
you?
Jamie (17:59):
See for me, because I
come from that law enforcement
background.
I'm used to confrontation andresponding, but it's in your
face, it's not on a computer,Right?
So I don't do too good onreading trolls or castmates
talking.
I'm like I know if I reallyreally go in number one.
(18:19):
Instagram or Facebook will blockmy account.
Yes, so I'm learning, talkingto my big brother, I'll be sure,
who has been an icon fordecades, and he talks me out the
tree Because I'll be like manI'm about to.
He's like nah.
He said you got to think thempeople you know to keep it a
(18:42):
hundred, like they here andyou're here and if you respond,
you just made them relevant ormore important than they really
are and it's like, why are youeven stressing yourself out?
Respond.
Sanya (18:53):
Yes, yes, I just came to
that conclusion.
Just last week, I said I'm notgoing to waste my time arguing
with individuals and I know Iwould never be in the same room
with them.
So why am I wasting my time, myenergy, my black excellence on
people that I wouldn't even bein the same room with?
Jamie (19:12):
And you know what?
I can tell you one thing likefrom this, from being on TV now
and before TV, I would likecomment on like a big page or
celebrity page and then when yousee that celebrity like it or
respond, you're like oh shit, they were male conics.
So I feel like now, because theword is, Jamie won't clap back,
(19:33):
it is what it is.
And I see them now just tryingto get me Like I read like a big
page, my post, you know a videoor a picture with me, like I
can respond on this, me in thedamn post, and then they'll say
watch that bald head evil manrespond.
(19:54):
And then I see the comment.
I'm like no, I ain't going tosay no.
And I was like this is crazy, like it is, I'm the one they
posted, it's the flyer of theshow, yeah, and I said fire, or
whatever I say.
See, I told you look, look,he's so fresh he's so fresh.
Sanya (20:14):
But do you think you've
developed like thicker skin
since being on the show?
Because you have to.
You have to, especially livingin this space.
Have you developed thicker skin?
Jamie (20:23):
Yeah, you have to and I
was pretty popular prior to
reality TV from other stuff Ihad going on, but, like I said,
it was more in your face.
They wouldn't like talk aboutme on these apps.
You know.
If I see them in an event, youknow somebody has something to
say, they'll say it.
Sanya (20:42):
Right.
Jamie (20:43):
But now it's millions and
millions of people who just
sitting in their mother basementor wherever and they can just
try to get under your skin untilyou be sure.
Yes, so the real answer to thatis to not read the comments.
Sanya (20:59):
And.
Jamie (21:00):
I'm a lot better now, but
season one, season one, I was
on YouTube like this, I don'tknow what to and then I was on
Instagram, then I was on Twitter, then I was on United.
I was reading and I was goingcrazy Because I was like, hey,
and even what happened?
They trying to act like I triedto like snatch your head.
In that one scene I was likewhat Y'all even come up with
(21:22):
this?
Sanya (21:24):
Well, but you know we
keep talking about your wife,
irana, and you mentioned you'vebeen married, for you said 30
years.
Jamie (21:31):
So we just hit 28 two
weeks ago.
Sanya (21:34):
Oh my gosh.
So when you go through thosetough spaces because of the show
, how do you navigate around thetough space to get back to the
love?
Jamie (21:45):
I would say one thing
about us is we have battle
tested and we've been together30, 31 years.
So all that we've yeah, I thinkwe're talking about 93.
It's 2024.
So, whatever you can imagine,we probably went through
(22:06):
Whatever went through.
We went through it Probably twoor three times.
So with TV, our thing is we'regoing to give y'all raw Jamie
and Irana raw conversation, rawreactions, and I'm the type of
guy if I don't like it, I'mgoing to tell you I don't like
it, if she don't like it, shegoing to tell you.
And I feel like, as a 28,30-something relationship, you
(22:29):
can have those conversations andthen move on.
Once it's resolved, I thinkpeople will get on these
platforms and try not to showthese conversations.
They're fake and I see it.
When I'm shown, I'm sittingthere like how can y'all never
have a disagreement, right?
Or you never tell your wife nah, you wrong, like you shouldn't
(22:51):
have said that, you shouldn'thave did that.
I'm going to tell Reina thatshe's going to tell me you
should.
That's what I mean is reality TV.
Just because she did somethingthat the whole audience and the
cast everybody said was messedup, I'm not going to co-sign it
on TV.
I'm going to be like, nah, youshouldn't have said that or you
(23:12):
shouldn't have did that.
I'm going to say it.
I'm not going to wait till weget off camera and say, girl,
you know you wrong, that's fakeman and that's a lot of that
going on.
It is Without a chance.
Sanya (23:24):
And I think that's why
the relationship between you and
your wife works on televisionis because we see the different
nuances, the ups and the downs.
My parents were married for 50years and I know all too well
about the highs and the lows ofa long-term relationship and
people need to see those thingsBecause this generation now.
They go through somethingdifficult with their mate or
(23:46):
partner and they're quickly outthe door.
But when you are in love withsomeone, you go through the
times, good or the bad, and youwork it out.
Now, talking about yourrelationship, I learned
somewhere that your first dateto your girlfriend then but your
wife now, was at Wendy's.
Is that true?
Jamie (24:06):
So we weren't even
girlfriend, boyfriend back then.
Okay, that was literally likelike a sneak, a sneaky, creepy
date, like Like we work together.
So it was like, can I take youto lunch?
And it was like we got to finda little spot in that area in
Virginia.
Well, you know, you couldn't gowhere everybody, my words,
(24:26):
somebody sees, because she stillhad a dude it was Wendy's I.
Sanya (24:39):
Love it because there's a
conversation that's been
happening for about a month ortwo on social media Like about
the ideal first date, and theywere like Wendy's was not one of
them and I'm just like you know, if you really like a person,
no matter where you go, it's allabout you and that person.
So I was glad to see that onthe Informal or unofficial first
(25:00):
date you took her to to Wendy's.
Do you remember what sheordered?
Jamie (25:04):
I Mean back to some 1993.
Yeah, I mean, it was probablyNumber number one, number two
that was.
You know, it was a burger andfried, that's what we.
Sanya (25:19):
Let me tell you, I ask
that question because I have a
significant other that I alsomet in 1993, and I remember the
clothing that he had on.
Oh, wow, yes, yes.
Jamie (25:32):
So this day I will say
this Raina, raina, the stylish
woman you see.
Now, raina was like that when Imet her in pride to me mean,
she was the only girl that Ihave seen wearing Versace Chanel
, like as a teenager, like shewas coming to work, in all this
(25:56):
stuff.
You can tell, you can tellshe's always been that.
Sanya (26:00):
Yeah, she was most
stylish all through high school
you can tell every year, buttalk about high school and the
way people Show up.
I want to talk about therelationship between you and the
rest of the cast.
I want to talk about is there areal friendship?
Is it just a situation ship oryou frenemies?
How is your relationship withthe rest of the cast members?
Jamie (26:22):
So the only people I
really had a relationship with
is is quick and that's because Iwas throwing events.
I've been doing events for over20 years DC area across the US
so I mean I was booking quick inmy 30s for do it for DJ my
burpees.
(26:42):
If I did stuff in Vegas I willfly him out the DJ that stuff.
Sanya (26:48):
So he was like the radio.
Jamie (26:49):
DJ in the DC area, so a
lot of my big stuff.
I put him on just a weeklystuff.
I have my other little DJs.
But His wife I met at my clubI'm a club probably Shit
probably 13, 14 years ago she's.
I didn't even know she was thatyoung until TV.
(27:11):
Okay, so you took my 13 yearsago, she was in her 20s.
I didn't even know that she wasin the club and the ladies met.
I think it took a picture.
I met her.
I didn't know her like that.
And then you fast forward us to2022 with a TV show and put us
(27:32):
in the room together to try toget a room Winter.
Never seen her in my life.
Friday TV Monique oh, moniqueand Chris I I think we seen them
out and about, but never really, never really trying.
Season one, surel and Black.
(27:54):
Season two.
We did know them for a fewyears.
Sanya (27:58):
Well, they be back, sure,
ellen, and her husband black.
Jamie (28:01):
They're on the second
half.
Okay, they don't know anythingafter that.
I don't know right right.
Who else is on the cash?
Sanya (28:10):
Joy and, and so.
Jamie (28:14):
In talking to the cliff
and he was attending my events
back on the day, but we probablymet, you know.
You know I speak to everybody.
Hey, what's up bro?
And he said we met, but youknow.
I didn't have a relationshipwith him until ready to love and
then when we were picked up,and then we did each other.
He's like man.
Congratulations, and I wastelling him congratulations so
(28:38):
that was that's kind of whatkicked us off and.
I've never met joy until You'rea film season two.
Sanya (28:44):
So is there any couple on
the show that you find a very
difficult developing an organicrelationship with?
Jamie (28:53):
Well, it's only three.
So it's us silvers and thepatties.
I would say, because of thestate we are in today, the
silvers are Harder.
It's gonna be hard because it'sa lot that happens since we rap
.
Lot of lot of stuff has beensaid on Twitter, on interviews,
(29:14):
you name it, and you know a lotof this stuff is like like I've
really done Because I didn't.
I didn't hang with these people, like I don't care, but I tried
to leave it at the reunion, leave the door open, to say, hey
, I Can, I can do business withy'all, because this business at
this point, but all that otherthat's, that's over.
Sanya (29:35):
I can't wow, so will we
see any of that on this new
season?
Like the, the, the disconnectbetween you and DJ quick Silva
and his wife Ashley.
Jamie (29:46):
I think you're gonna see
the start of it and I'm gonna
hit started a little bit in thefurrier did it, uh-huh, and I
mean a lot of that a Lot of theback and forth with me and quick
.
You know, like I said, from onyxmeeting I never was.
My intent was never to throwhim under bus or his family or
(30:06):
none of that on professionalsand scenes.
But as you see, when you seeprofessionals, you like what
down, yeah, and I kept findingmyself saying, damn, like you.
And then I'm like listening,I'm like, yeah, I know, that
wasn't even really like that.
Now you For TV, then you blownit up like I got a whole
drinking problem and I'm justlike what are we doing?
(30:27):
Like so so when they come backon, after what I saw, I'm a I'm
a whole different person.
My professionals are nowherenear like they were the first.
Really, and then and then, um,you know from when we wrap
filming?
I feel like that's when thereal riff came, hmm as a Twitter
(30:50):
, twitter stuff, right.
Sanya (30:52):
Oh wow, do you think that
you'll ever get to a place
where the relationships can bemended, or it's too far gone?
Jamie (30:59):
I just think, uh, and I
don't know what they're gonna
show at the reunion.
I think the reunion For me,pride nailed it door shut with
me and pride ran into youbecause the reunion is that bad,
it's oh.
Wow.
It's like this in this worldyou can have shade, we are, we
all understood the shade.
We're gonna have got a headshade, okay right squeaky clean,
(31:22):
happy, go lucky for 1213episode ain't gonna work right,
but but when you have back andforth with your cast, it should
never go to the point where nowI'm trying to destroy you and
your integrity and your fat likeand that's what started
happening, like at the reunion, like it was any dirt I had or
thought I had.
(31:42):
I'm saying at the reunion, youknow, you know what they show,
that's what happened.
And I'm sitting here listeningto this stuff.
I'm like, oh, she really, really don't fuck with us.
Wow, there's, none of thiswould have ever came out my
mouth, you know.
Sanya (31:59):
I'm sorry, right.
So do you think a lot of theDisconnect or the disrespect was
purposely done because thecameras were rolling?
Jamie (32:09):
So that's what I thought,
but if you watch her on Twitter
and on Instagram, she therealest thing on TV and
everything she said, that's her.
So she, she's saying that's whoshe is and I believe her, like
literally, it's a scene, is areal pivotal scene You're gonna
see probably third, maybe thirdor fourth episode, and she, she,
(32:31):
she goes off on a castmate.
I'm sitting here like, oh, thisguy be fatigued, this guy
really, because they wasn't thatserious but it escalated so bad
.
That that's that's the pivotalpoint of the whole second half,
where all the relationship didlike that, yeah, and I was just
like I'm like, even when I talkto the husband, I was like I
(32:53):
said, bro, that was a TV.
I thought that was a TV, mom,mm-hmm, because other than that
it was no way.
That would have like no way.
She's getting in my face likethat, wow, but I'm not surprised
.
Sanya (33:05):
I'm not surprised at all
because I think it was the end
of the first season or thesecond season and we started to
notice Ashley kind of changing, you know, getting a little bit
more battery in her back, and weit just seemed as if her
personality was changing justbecause of time.
She seemed as if her Patpersonality was changing just
(33:26):
because of television.
Yes, so I'm not surprised tosee if her personality is now on
level 20.
Jamie (33:36):
This is on 50 when it
come back.
And if you just look at Twitterand Instagram, you could see
she like doubling down on thejet.
I'm the bad guy, I'm with it,wow.
And that's where I said like Igo back to Monique statement.
Like we had a whole dinner likedon't let this show Make us
(33:56):
where we are today.
And oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, weall are in the green.
And now we're literally Likedon't fuck with each other at
all.
Oh, wow it gets worse every daybecause the social media shit
Like it ain't even you know howthe cats live tweet when the
show on and they go back likethat's what we started with that
(34:19):
.
Now, we was doing that, but itwas all in boosting the show or
whatever.
But then she, you know herlittle crew, you know they
sitting there clapping back atme or right, and I'm like tell
your people chill, like likethis will be posted.
Do we posted?
Talk shit to each other?
Right, but they can't keeptalking shit to them Because I'm
(34:40):
gonna be fine with them and Ithink that's what set me her
apart, because I responded tosomebody who just kept at me,
just kept at me and they in itand they just, they just enabled
their shit, like everythingthey do is it was nothing wrong
with.
I'm like Did the whole thingwith him calling my son bad in
that scene, yeah, he should, like the whole internet said
(35:01):
Brad, I'm talking about thesepeople, kids, you don't even
right, yeah.
And then when I said somethingon Twitter about it, the little
girl got at me like quick thisand quick.
I'm like show it, he's wrong,we're not gonna keep going back.
Nobody's gonna say that wasright, but y'all Is gonna say
well, he meant to do swear orlike, and that that's gonna come
(35:25):
back up when they come back on.
You can see how that played out.
Wow, again no accountability.
Sanya (35:31):
No, yeah.
So I know this, like this is aspinoff from Like love and
marriage, huntsville, and I knowon that show the ensemble cast
started to have some sort ofturmoil and Carlos King had to
step in.
Has there been a time thatCarlos King had to step in with
your cast and say, ok, what theeff is happening here?
(35:53):
We need to get back on track.
So how is he supporting all ofthis?
Jamie (35:58):
I think that's coming.
I think that's soon, really, Ithink.
Because I mean, even when I gotinto it with Winter Season 1,
that got ugly behind the scenestoo, because her team snowflake
fans, started talking to me onsocial media and they were
(36:18):
googling my house and postingpictures of my house.
Somehow.
It don't make me pull up Likereally.
Yeah, I was like man.
Let me explain something to you, bro.
I was a police in DC 25 years.
If you come near this housefaking Right, I promise you
won't leave.
You won't leave, like I'm OK.
And so what I did?
(36:39):
I just documented it with thelocal police just to let them
know this was.
I was threatening.
They did share my house and Ihit Carlos.
I said hey, her fan club istalking shit to me and
threatening me.
I'm telling you, I ain't thatguy.
He's gonna go left real quick.
And he was like you know, hekind of was like let me try to
(37:02):
calm it down, whatever.
So that kind of blew over astime went on, but he probably
won't have to do it because Iknow me, you know I'm a Tars and
one thing I don't play with isdon't lie on me, right, I could
get myself in trouble.
Trust me, don't make up shit onme for TV.
(37:23):
And then it's so wrong.
Then you're like, oh well, well, somebody told me that that's
why I was so mad.
I went to.
I was like, went to Whoeversent you.
That is a fake page.
And I tell him Senator, rainer, you don't even know us, mind
your business.
Like you try to stop shit tostay on the show.
And it was so obvious, like itworked.
(37:44):
She's still here.
But it was like we don't, wewould never seen you in our life
.
So anybody sending you shitclearly is not a fan of me.
And, Rainer, right, hit, hitand you just ran with it for TV.
Oh, look what I got, look whatI got.
I'm going shorty.
Sanya (38:02):
Yeah, this whole social
media space has turned everyone
into a thug.
I don't like it at all At all,Because I'm like once I present
you with an opportunity, Ireally see how much of a thug
you are not.
Jamie (38:16):
I think I moved on with
Winster because we were.
We kept ending up in the sameroom and I knew we were going to
do another season back then.
So I went over to and I said, look, I'm going to make peace
with you right now Because Iknow we got to exist.
You ain't going nowhere in evenmy.
(38:36):
I said, but I'm going to justtell you this Leave my marriage
alone, like that was your angleto get on the show.
Cool, you made it,congratulations.
But, moving forward, leave myhouse alone for real, got it.
We kind of like came toagreement like all right, cool,
you know you can get your ownstoryline, you on the show.
Now you got to do your thingthere.
(38:57):
I got five storylines and youwant to add mama T, that's
another one.
We got finished here to talkabout it.
My only, you stop shit.
Sanya (39:09):
I hear that, I hear that.
But you know, I mentioned Loveand Marriage Huntsville a few
times and that show is really, really just taken off.
What do you think Love andMarriage DC needs to do in order
to surpass the ratings of Loveand Marriage Huntsville?
Jamie (39:25):
Well, I think Huntsville
really, really blasted off with
the Martel scan.
Sanya (39:31):
Yeah.
Jamie (39:32):
In this world we live in.
That's what they want.
They want to do.
Yes, infidelity, and you nameit, you know Love and Marriage.
Dc me personally, and I canspeak for me and Reina I was a
highly decorated law enforcementwaved in full TV.
(39:54):
So TV was never in my mind to beon reality TV one day.
So my integrity for that andwho I am I was often cameras I
would never set that out for TV.
So it's just so much I'm goingto do and I'm not going to keep
arguing with people I don't evenfool with in real life.
(40:15):
So at some point, carlos, goingto have a meeting, like you
said, and figure out how to moveforward.
Because my family yeah, we canget y'all out of that.
We can get out of real familyups and downs and all that.
We can do that.
But to keep arguing with othercouples for ratings and all, I'm
not doing it Right, I'm not, because I don't have the temper
(40:37):
to keep sugarcoating shit.
Eventually I'm going to go allthe way left.
Children go all the way left.
I mean all the way left.
Sanya (40:47):
I get it, I totally get
it.
But I love the fact that youhaven't gone tiki-tiki boom yet,
because a fan like me, I don'twant to see all of the arguing
every single week.
And I've got Carlos's namebecause I'm thinking maybe he
isn't giving Love and MarriageDC the same amount of attention
(41:07):
that he's been giving to Loveand Marriage Huntsville.
Would you agree or disagree?
Jamie (41:12):
Oh, yeah, we definitely
have our fellas on the marketing
behind us, the promotion, likeall this week we're doing press.
This is my relationships withall the local news and radio.
Nobody from owners reached outand said, hey, press week, I
need you all to do all theseinterviews, nobody knows.
(41:33):
But when Huntsville girl comeback on, they got commercial,
they got All this.
But then you talk about ratings, but y'all don't even put the
same effort into it.
Sanya (41:46):
I definitely noticed that
.
I noticed that.
Yeah, in order to prepare forthis conversation, I looked
across different social mediaplatforms just to see if you all
were doing interviews and Isaid there's not a lot of
promotion and marketing and theinterviews going behind this?
And I see it.
(42:06):
I'm a fan of Carlos King andthe work that he's curated and
produced, but I can definitelytell that he has his favorites.
Jamie (42:15):
Yeah, I think I mean I
read Twitter Even that long
delay.
He called him and only in hisdefense I will say it was above
him, it was an on thing.
I hit him directly.
What is that?
Because I got stuff I could bedoing in retirement, but I don't
(42:37):
want to start it.
And then here come the camerasagain.
And then I got to be like, well,I can't be there, I can't do
this, I can't do that.
So I was giving them a littlemore time and then I was great,
just shut it off.
I was going to be done and Iwas going to get back into my
other stuff I got going, got it.
Sanya (42:56):
So if you look at all of
the other couples on the show,
if one couple had to go, whichcouple would it be?
Oh, silver, easy oh.
Jamie (43:05):
I knew you were going to
say that.
I mean because I know we alldon't mess with each other right
now.
But me, just watching what Isee and what I know in real life
is just like bro, come on y'all.
Like y'all just tiptoeing withshe does to me.
(43:26):
She does a lot.
She does a lot Like too muchactually, like them
conversations with her mother, like I feel like some of this is
not for TV.
Some of this shit is true andshe do it again when they come
back on it's a whole notherscene with them two and it's
just like some of this stuff Igot to be a fine line of like
(43:46):
that ain't going to be TV.
Fuck that, I don't get it andshe don't do that.
But he definitely do.
He definitely just want tocheer for her and get out the
way.
And they mess with me.
Try most he mocked supervisorsor something and then get out
the way.
So that's why I say yeah,definitely.
Sanya (44:09):
I get it, I get it.
You know, on my show I like totalk about pivotal moments and
milestones, and there are somany pivotal moments and
milestones that we all have incommon, so I want to talk about
a few of your firsts.
When was the first time thatyou lost your virginity?
How old?
Jamie (44:30):
When I first lost mine.
Sanya (44:31):
Yes.
Jamie (44:32):
Shit If I had to go back
that far.
Sanya (44:38):
I would have Come on, man
you know, when you lost your
virginity.
Jamie (44:43):
I'm going to say junior
high school.
Sanya (44:47):
Damn Jamie, Really Junior
high school.
Jamie (44:51):
I mean you tell me 85, 86
.
Sanya (44:55):
It's a different world.
I know I was about to graduatehigh school.
I waited a little bit.
Ok, jamie, I waited.
Jamie (45:03):
Not from high school.
These girls down here was readyto go.
Sanya (45:09):
OK, what was your first
job?
Jamie (45:12):
Oh wow, my first job back
at 14 was a piece of hut.
Sanya (45:21):
Has there ever been a
first time that you were fired?
Jamie (45:25):
Piece of hut.
Why were you fired?
Because we just fell in pieces.
Typical teenagers, you know howit is.
I'm trying stills of pieces gotcaught.
I'm having a thought a fewtimes.
I mean, we was young, we wasjust throwing dumps.
Sanya (45:45):
OK, so when you started
making money I don't mean like
millions or things like that butwhat was your very first big
purchase?
Jamie (45:56):
Man a house.
I bought my first house in 1998.
And the thing was because I wasaround retired law enforcement
when I worked at DrugEnforcement Administration
that's not bad for her.
You know, I was talking to theseguys so much and the old vet
(46:17):
said man, cause I was talkingabout apartment, I'm wanting an
apartment.
I said I'm going to a townhouse or apartment.
I'm like 27 years old.
He like no bad house.
I said, man, I don't want toknow a house.
He was like nah, man, trust me.
He said you will get equity offof it when you sell it.
You gonna make more money.
And I literally bought into it.
And then, cause we had a littletown house for a little while
(46:41):
and after that first we bought ahouse in 1998.
It was I was so young and shewas so young.
The neighbors said where areyour parents?
When we went to move in, oh,wow, and we were like wow, and
he was like I want to meet him.
I was like, wow, he's like Ijust want to meet the neighbor.
I said it's us Right, cause Ithink I was.
(47:03):
I was 20, 25.
Nice.
Sanya (47:08):
She was 24.
Nice, oh, that's dope, that'sdope.
What was your first heartbreak?
Jamie (47:16):
I mean I would say the
real pride, right Cause we broke
up.
We broke up probably like 95,94, 95.
And she went back to herdaughter's father and that was a
rough time and then ultimatelyshe came back and then we got
married in 96.
Sanya (47:37):
Nice.
See, love always finds its wayback.
I want to kind of tap into theentrepreneurial spirit of you
before we end this conversation.
So you did mention that you area retired detective, but you
also have an entertainmentcompany, J&J Entertainment
Company.
You're hosting a love andmarriage DC, I think launch
(47:59):
party this coming Saturday.
Is that correct?
Jamie (48:02):
Well, it's the watch
party for the new episode.
Sanya (48:05):
Oh, okay, but talk about
this entertainment company,
cause you started this many, many years ago and to see it
still flourishing now, that'samazing.
Talk about your entertainmentcompany.
Jamie (48:16):
Yeah, so a lot of people
don't know, I started I was
always the party guy, always foras long as I can remember.
So when I bought a house, myhouse was the Super Bowl, tyson
fights, Mayweather fights, redSkin, cowboys games, like all
the big stuff.
It was Jamie house and I willalways have.
(48:36):
You know, I could always get acrowd If it was intimate, for
the inside it'd be like 40people or something, but if I
did it in the backyard it couldbe a hundred.
And so back in those days I wasdoing events with like a few
police officers and we was doingpool parties, cabrages, stuff
(48:57):
like that in the early 2000s,and then I just noticed that it
was like falling off and itwasn't really serious, no more.
So I kind of went, went myseparate ways, and how?
My partner JD, how we linked up, he was throwing house parties
at his house.
But we grew up together playingat the NC Chaplain Sports as
(49:18):
kids.
So I went to a couple of hishouse parties.
I was like, hey, cool littlecrowd.
You know, for his to be at ahouse it'd be like 50, 60 people
over.
Good luck.
So I went.
So oh eight, oh eight.
I saw a venue in DC.
That was wide open and I saidif I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna
call him because I felt like hehad a nice crowd.
(49:41):
And sure enough, 09, we startedoff these happy hours on Friday
nights and cause he's a PhD incomputer science, I was in law
enforcement, we had a realprofessional network IT world
and then I had lawyers and lawenforcement and government
workers, stuff like that.
So we just funded as a littlehappy hour for our high schools,
(50:05):
like a reunion, and the firstone we did is like 300.
Some people came so the ownerwas like just do it again next
week.
So we did it again next weekand another 300 came.
Then just do it again.
So we ran off like seven ofthose real early.
Then of course saw Stella oh,the numbers were down tonight
(50:26):
Just lying in it and I said wegot moved Cause we got a thing
that I could take it to anothervenue Right Fast forward to
probably like spring of 09, wewent to another venue in DC
where we got a DJ now and it wastwo levels, so it was food and
that was just the birth of J andJ.
It was like J and J Ocean DriveFridays and it was a thing.
(50:51):
It was like every week packed, try and get in it, nice, nice,
and then from there we starteddoing concerts.
We started with the day partymovement down here Started and I
cause I'm born in May, I wouldalways do my birthday in Vegas
when May went before.
(51:11):
So we started taking mybirthday to Vegas.
For like seven, eight years wewould take eight 900 people to
Vegas.
Sanya (51:19):
It was crazy Nice, but I
hear you're also planning a trip
.
You're hosting and planning atrip to Ghana and you're
inviting people to travel withyou.
I think that that's amazing.
Talk about that, and where canmy audience go to purchase
tickets and travel with you toGhana?
Jamie (51:35):
Yeah.
So then on this platform, wewere contacted by a tourism
company to do a partnership andget some people from overhead
over to the motherland.
So my management, along withtheir team, we had a Zoom and
went over all the logistics ofit and it seemed like a good fit
(51:56):
.
So we partnered up with themand it'll be the end of August
of this year.
It's a nine day trip.
They have a whole itinerarystarting from when you land till
we get back on the plane, and Ido have a link.
I can see the link and withthat link it does have the
(52:16):
breakdown of the flight, thehotel options, the contact
information for the tourismgroup and they can basically
walk them through the wholeprocess of deposits or if you
just want to pay your trip.
Sanya (52:30):
Yeah, it seemed pretty
affordable.
I looked at something and Ithink the base price was $2,000
or something and you said thetrip is for nine days.
Yeah, yeah, and I went to like aCaribbean island for about four
days, and it's more than that.
And I said, okay, this trip toGhana is a great, great price.
So, yes, please share that linkwith me, because I definitely
(52:51):
want to share it with myaudience.
I think that that's amazing.
Now the final question.
With Love and Marys DC about tolaunch its new season, why
should everyone be tuned inwatching?
Jamie (53:05):
Oh man, Cause your
favorites, the Tyler's, are
coming back to your screen.
Of course, you got more ofRaina and I just navigating this
life of being the OGs on theshow.
So Lil Jamie has some updateson his what he's up to.
(53:25):
It was some scenes filmed withJason and his updates, but I
didn't see him in what wealready saw, so I was kind of
hoping that we could see that, cause he was actually in school
during most of that whole filmBrittany's back and some scenes
Mama T's back and I just think Ithink for me it showed a lot of
(53:51):
like the people that probablymisunderstood me season one.
I felt like it opens up alittle more to me.
I do some more counseling and Ialso have a retirement party
with a VIP guest that's gonnablow everybody's mind, so I'm
excited about my family and whatwe share.
Sanya (54:12):
Nice Marys.
Well, jamie, thank you so muchfor this conversation.
I just need you to do me afavor Please tell your beautiful
wife that I said hello and I amdefinitely a fan of her and you
on the show.
And keep on with the black lovePeople like me.
We applaud you, we pray for youand I wish you and your wife
and your entire family continuedsuccess.
Jamie (54:35):
And you are so
appreciated and we appreciate
you.
I appreciate you having me onGotta.
Get her on next.
Sanya (54:41):
Yes, yes, yes, I would
love to.
So we'll link up to coordinatethat.
Jamie (54:46):
Yes, yes, absolutely.
And if anybody's in the DMVarea, saturday night we're doing
a watch party at Silver SpringMerlin, at Citizens and Cultures
.
It's gonna start at six, butwe're gonna watch the show at
eight and then have a littleafter party from nine to 10.
And then we're taking the partyto the air lounge for a second
after party where we will meetand read the fans take pictures.
Sanya (55:10):
Yeah, I love it.
I was talking to my daughterwhen I saw about the event and
I'm trying to link up with oneof my friends who lives in the
DMV area to come to the party,so I'll definitely let you know
if I'll be in the building.
Jamie (55:22):
Okay, yeah, if you do it.
Definitely.
If you wanna chop it up alittle bit, you want to get some
content, that's fine.
Sanya (55:30):
Okay, okay, well, I'll be
in touch.
Thank you so much, Jamie.
You take care.
Thank you and I'll send you thatlink as well.
Please do Bye-bye, all right.
There you have it, jamie Tylerof Love and Marriage DC Love the
conversation.
Let me tell you why.
Because reality TV is often led, like I said, by the female
(55:52):
cast.
You know, just chatting it up,sometimes the petty labels of it
all.
But the men who are joining thecast, they're like you know,
we're on this show with ourwives, we're not going, we're
nowhere near being a silentpartner.
We're in this together and I'mfinding that the male voice on
reality television is justincreasing and increasing.
(56:16):
When we talk about reality shows, remember Love, who was it
called Real Housewives ofAtlanta?
And one of the husbands keptspeaking up.
I think it was Peter.
Peter Thomas kept speaking upand they refer to him as a of a
JJ, a few male realitypersonalities.
(56:39):
Once they start speaking up,the women are looking at them
like shut up, be quiet.
But the men are saying no, wehave an opinion.
We're on here with our wives.
You're not going to slander ourwives, you're not going to
slander our relationships.
I have something to say.
So I love to say and Jamie wasright, he did go through some
challenges and obstacles fromthe audience because of his
(57:00):
presence on Love and Marriage DC.
When he got into it with hiswife, the audience didn't like
that.
When he got into it with hisown son, you didn't like that
either.
You know, my daughter alwaysasks me Mom, do you think that
you could do reality television?
And I would say one second I'msaying yes and then five seconds
(57:22):
later I'm saying no, becauseyou all don't allow people to be
their organic selves.
It's called reality televisionTo the point where it is
becoming such a visceralreaction for such the audiences
that a lot of this realitytelevision oftentimes it becomes
scripted just so that itbecomes a little bit more
(57:42):
digestible for you all.
So and then we talked aboutCarlos King.
If you are a fan of the realityTV shows on the Oprah Winfrey
network, you know that CarlosKing of Kingdom Brain
Entertainment, he is the curatorof a lot of these shows and you
(58:04):
can definitely tell that thereare some favorites.
Love you, carlos, but it's thetruth, you can tell.
Matter of fact, love andMarriage Huntsville he just
launched a tour with MelodyCherie.
How do you now employ someonebut now your partners?
It just doesn't make any senseto me.
(58:26):
And then, also just to preparefor this conversation.
I was looking to see how wasthe cast of Love and Marriage DC
promoting and marketing?
Were they going on interviews?
And I saw nothing, nothing atall.
Carlos, come on, spread thelove.
Spread the love to the peoplethat you employ, the people that
(58:47):
bring your vision to life.
Show them some love.
So I don't know, but once again, this has been another amazing
conversation from Sanya on air.
The term that I gave you at theonset of this show, I want you
to remember it Black ownedversus Black targeted Black
(59:10):
targeted to me it's like it isallowed to develop organically.
It isn't really given any typeof structure or boundaries.
The messaging may be a littlebit blurred, like was this a
good message?
So they just called me?
It's just too much back andforth and we need shows.
(59:30):
We need shows that areentertaining or, like I say,
anger tainment.
We need those.
But I also want to see thebalance too.
So I'm going to implore you, jamie Tyler, and your wife Irana
don't change.
Don't change.
We want to see the ups anddowns of the marriages, because,
for one, people go intorelationships, especially this
(59:51):
new generation.
You get into one argument andit's over, and they date the
best friend and then writing asong about it on social media.
I don't find that people arewilling to go through the ups
and downs of relationships toreally find out what works.
I think love is really aboutchild.
Who are you willing to sufferthe most for?
I don't know.
(01:00:12):
Not saying that you should bein something trauma filled, but
stick with it.
Don't give up so easily.
And another thing that I wantyou to stick with is Sanya on
air.
Make sure that you are tuned inevery single week for all new
celebrity conversationsunpacking their pivotal moments
and milestones.
So I'm about to end thisconversation, but if you haven't
