Let's talk Pets on Petlife Radio dot com.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Welcome back everyone. I want to introduce my first guest
to name. His name is Alejandro, which I love saying
Alejandro Russo, and he is the CEO of kloof, which
is actually an app for pet lovers.

Speaker 9 (03:24):
Is that right, Alandro, Yes, exactly right.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I love saying your name. By the way, it just
rolls right off.

Speaker 9 (03:31):
I'm kind of used to it.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
I think with the guy a band with the name
of Alejandro, I have a feeling that you don't have
any problems getting dates.

Speaker 9 (03:38):
Well, I mean, it's hard to know because the place
that I come from, Chila, there's plenty of other cameras,
so I haven't been able to test it yet.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
That is true because you grew up in Chile, right, Yes.

Speaker 9 (03:50):
I grew up in Chila and I just came here
to the States like two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 9 (03:56):
Well, welcome, thank here, Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Okay, So we'll talk about Kloof in a minute, but
I want to get down to the survey that your
website conducted the top five breeds that make women more
attractive and the top five breeds that make men more attractive.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
How did you come up with this.

Speaker 9 (04:16):
Well, it's a funny story actually, Like I was in
the park walking my dog and as you say, I
mean a lot of people have troublicating dates. And I
noticed that when people are watching their dogs, it's very
it's like a nice bigger it's very easy for them
to just go on and talk to somebody else and say, oh,
that's a cute dog, and oh can I pat him?
And what's your name? You know? Yes, so I said, yeah,

(04:40):
maybe the kind of pet that you walk in the
park says something about you. And maybe you don't want
to say hi to the person holding a rod viler,
and you do want to say hi to the person,
you know, walking a poodle, you know. So then we said, yeah,
let's come back to survey and we interviewed like twelve
hundred people from different countries sing go not single and

(05:01):
see what they find about what breeds say about the
person that.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Owns them interesting.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
And I do also find it interesting that even though
my dog is a mixed breed, none of her breeds
are on the list. Maybe that's why I'm still single. Alejandro, Okay,
so we go, well, I know, okay, so let's go
over the top breeds that make women more attractive?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Do you want to do that?

Speaker 9 (05:28):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Has it changed because you were talking to us before
we started the show.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
It's kind of changed up with it, hasn't it.

Speaker 9 (05:35):
No, the breeds are the same, but there are interesting
relations to that.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (05:39):
So if you're a woman and you want to be
more attractive when you go walking your pet in the
park or you know, opening pictures or whatever. If you
want to have something serious and perceive as like good
marriage material, the bolden retrievers and laborators are the way
to go.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
So that's like the top one, right.

Speaker 9 (06:00):
Yeah, I mean those two they were like really really
far from the ones that came, you know, right by,
and excellent because labradors and golden retrievers make you appear
as a stable person, somebody that's centered, somebody that's that
knows where where they're go in life. So if you're single,
you can be easily perceived as good marriage material. You know,

(06:22):
you know how to take care of the dogs. They're
very well groomed, so you can easily relate to how
that person is going to be, you know, with children.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Do you think it's because men are attracted to golden retrievers.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Is that the deal or no?

Speaker 9 (06:38):
No, Maybe it's because men are attracted to women that
might be good mothers, so that's what they see, and
a woman that's walking a golden retriever or a labrador.
But do you want to be perceived as a better
maybe one night stand or just a date, then those
are not the best kind of breeds. Then chiwawas and

(06:58):
poodles are much better for them.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Boy, hold on a second, So if you have a
chihuala or poodle, oh, then the guards like, okay, can
I get a.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
One night stand with her?

Speaker 3 (07:09):
My sister ows, so she's maybe a little loose as
up what you're saying.

Speaker 9 (07:15):
Yeah, I mean it depends because because the kinder results
we got told us that men perceive women woun chala
and pool has more attractive than other kind of beats.
But there's another result that also says that men find
women with a chua has seeing a little bit more
as somebody that gets around more than somebody that has el.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Oh my gosh, this is cracking me up. By the way,
my sister is married, so I guess she doesn't count
in that.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
This is too funny.

Speaker 9 (07:50):
He's gonna get mat or anything, just.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Like this is kind of unscientific though, because you just are, well,
how scientific can you get when you're asking people on
the streets too, right?

Speaker 9 (08:00):
Exactly, I mean that's just a result some twelve hundred
people in parks.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Now, okay, beagle was the number five.

Speaker 9 (08:08):
Right exactly. Beagles are an interesting mix because there they
make women look attractive, but they don't make them seem
to be easier. Just when it when it's stands, it's attractive.
So that might be a pretty good mix between a
golden retriever and at chyuala.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Okay, okay, let's go to the top five breeds.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Of that make men more attractive.

Speaker 9 (08:34):
Yeah, so the top five beat for making men attractive
are German shepherds and then golden retrievers. Elaborags also got repeated,
and that's because of the same reason for women. You know,
it's because maybe women see and a man of a laborator,
somebody who can take care of somebody who's serious, and

(08:54):
that can be perceive as good mariage material. The German shepherd.
The kind of comments with God was that it has
the same effect as a golden retriever or a laboratory,
but it's a little bit more masculine. Women perceived men
that have German shepherds that's more masculine and overprotectives.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Well, they are the police K nine dogs here in
the United States, German shepherds.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
So yeah, manly dog. Okay, Siberian husky that made number
four right.

Speaker 9 (09:22):
Yeah, Huskies they're also interesting because huskies besides making men
appear attractive to women, what when women think about a
man with a husky is that he's well groomed. That's
the result. We got demo that a man, for example,
it has a pit bull is perceived as a slimy

(09:43):
or sketchy, but a man was in Siberian husky appears
to be somebody who knows how to take care of
himself and his appearance.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Who are these people you were interviewing? Pitbulls are great dogs?
Yeah goodness.

Speaker 9 (09:58):
I mean I love pipules. But I think that if
you want, like you want to have like a change
of appearance, you know, get a new style something like that.
You say, you're a husky, that's a tricks like better
than a pitbull.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Okay. In the fifth one, French bulldog.

Speaker 9 (10:14):
Yeah, French bulldog is a is a kind of beat
that's been getting like quite trendy in the last couple
of years. It's been appeared in several TV shows like
Modern Family for example. So men who have French bulldogs
they seem to be attractive because it's a trendy breed,
you know, it's a breath that's like featured in media.

(10:37):
So that's that's things about the manual.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Well, we want to note that these were unscientific, you know,
you do. You got these from people.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
That were in park, so we don't want to take
away from the breaths that didn't make the list.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
And also the.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Explainer for like the chihuahua, and you know why men
are attracted to women with chihuahuas, So we want to
make sure we don't want to but we don't want
to get anyone angry.

Speaker 9 (11:05):
You know, nobody's going to get angry. I mean, it's
just like we went so far several days in a row,
different parts, and we had people say what they what
they felt about about different breeds and what they relate
them to. So we figured out a few interesting relationships

(11:26):
between the kind of bea and the.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to to go.
I have to adopt a golden retriever. I guess if
I want to get a date, yeah, if anyone, what
do you want?

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Or if I want a one night stand, I'll get
at Jiuhahua.

Speaker 9 (11:41):
Exactly.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Well, that was really interesting, very interesting results. Now people
can get all the results on your website also.

Speaker 9 (11:50):
Right, yeah, exactly. I mean this is just like a
little little glimpse of vogue. We have because we created
an oftome website called croof dot.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Com k.

Speaker 9 (12:02):
Doubles dot com, And what we did is is create
an iPhone app for pet lovers.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
It's a free app too, right.

Speaker 9 (12:10):
Yeah, it's free. You can download it in the app Store.
It's very easy to use and it's super fun because
it leaves to create a profile for your pet. So
you love your pet and you like uploading pictures, you
can definitely have a great time. You can prove because
you create a profiles for your pet, you can post
them on Facebook as well, and you can earn points

(12:31):
and bats if you're a good pet owner.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Interesting, Now, how long ago did you create this?

Speaker 9 (12:36):
Well, this is like fresh out of the oven. We've
been working on this like for six months and it
got launched like three days ago. So there's brand new.
Our testers are like our first users. We really loved it,
and now we came here in New York. We're in
America right now to launch this because we feel that
the American audience is really gonna like what we have

(12:59):
been working.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Well, congratulations on Kloof. And you know you're just twenty
four years old, isn't that right?

Speaker 9 (13:07):
Actually twenty three of twenty three.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
You're only twenty three.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
You came up with this app and this very interesting survey,
and you're the former co founder of Soy Gourmet as well, right.

Speaker 9 (13:20):
Yeah, exactly. Sigur May was the chilas first restaurant iPhone app,
basically like seamless or open Table in Chila. Became the
most eluted app in the country. And then I had
to finish my degree, my master's degree, so it got acquired.
It was a good opportunity and now I've created.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
So young and so creative.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Wow, Alejandro, you have a cat named Coco, right yeah,
and a silky terrier.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yes, and the silky terrier didn't make the list either.

Speaker 9 (13:54):
No, No, they're not that well known. I mean people
relate more to your chart serio mm hmm. But I
just love Nikki Myki Tear, and there's a special story
about her and me. You know, I was I was
afraid of dogs when I was a kid. Really really,
I had like this huge fogia because a dog did
me in the hand and I couldn't get near a dog.

(14:16):
I mean not even like two blocks.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
So what made you do the turnaround as an adult?
Well you're barely you're only twenty three. But what made
you get into the pet business?

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Then?

Speaker 9 (14:27):
Yeah, so I was like so afraid of dogs. They
couldn't even go over to friend's houses. It was terrible.
My mom got me into therapy. Everything had nothing worth.
And then my mom got me as a birthday gift,
Niki my Soaky Tear. So she said, if you're afraid
of dogs, then I'm going to get you a dog.
And she got me Nikki and she was just she

(14:48):
was just born. She was a puppy, and I started
losing my fear of dogs and to that. So that's
why I see how people feel very close to their pets.
It's just they're not like just an animal renting around
your house. You have a real bond with them. They
are family members. So absolutely, how old is Nicky you
wanted to create dot com.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
How old is Nikki?

Speaker 9 (15:12):
Nikki is eleven right now, she's got to be this year.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
So she is a senior pet, which is my specialty.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I think it's great that you It's amazing, isn't it though,
How you were once afraid of pets and now pets
sound like they're your passion.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
I mean, that's what you're doing now.

Speaker 9 (15:29):
So yeah, I mean, I just love pets, and I
love people who love pets. I mean, I can see
how much love there is, you know, and I just
wanted to create a special app for people to express that.

Speaker 8 (15:41):
Well.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I think it's great, Alejandro. It was great chatting with you.

Speaker 9 (15:46):
Thank you very much. It was great chatting with you.
I really appreciate your time, the invitation, and I hope
your readers get to check out kloof. It's kluble o
doubles and it's free. It's on the app store. You
just tell loaded create profiles for your pets. Super fun
to use.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
It sounds like it's a lot of fun. Well, congratulations
to you, and I wish you all the best in
the future.

Speaker 9 (16:10):
Thank you very much. Here with you of this as well.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Thanks great, all right, and we'll be back with our
next guest after the break.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
We'll be right back right after these messages. Stay tuned.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Welcome back everyone.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
You know when my dog Miko passed away just over
a year ago. As much as I write about senior dogs,
I wish I would have had this manual prior to
because it is a fabulous book that talks about it.
So positive and informative and realistic about what your senior

(18:49):
dog goes through. With me is Jennifer Katchnick. She put
together a book called Your Dog's Golden Years, a manual
for senior dog care.

Speaker 8 (18:59):
We them, Jennifer, thank you good to be here.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Thanks for having me, no problem. We're glad that you
could join us. Love this book.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
I love that you not only contribute it to it, obviously,
but you have nineteen other experts in senior dog hare
who also contributed a chapter. And I think this book
is great for anyone, not even if you have a
senior dog, because eventually your younger dog's going to be
a senior too, right. I like the fact that it

(19:30):
kind of to tell you the truth, and I was
reading some of those chapters kind of eases some of
the fears that you may have also when your dog
is going through the final stages.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Right, Yeah, I.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
Work with I have a canine wellness business and most
of my clients are senior dogs, and there are stages
that they go through and they don't all get you know,
diseases towards the end, but they're all going to die.
That's effective life. And the book does give you tools
and lots of resources to deal with end of life
stuff and chronic illnesses and what senior dogs need kind

(20:05):
of what life is like for them, right, and.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Other options not just your more traditional you know that care,
but you have momeopathy and you're also a certified canine
massage therapist and an animal reiki practitioner.

Speaker 9 (20:21):
Right.

Speaker 8 (20:22):
Reiki is energy healing, and I wrote the chapter on
that in the book. There's different types of energy healing
out there, but that's an option for dogs.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Tell us about energy healing, What exactly is.

Speaker 8 (20:34):
That energy healing. It's a trained practitioner. We get certified
and we're sort of taking our energy, positive energy, and
you know, putting it into the dog and we can
feel their energy and sometimes we can, you know, put
our pants over the dog and we can feel negativity

(20:54):
or where the dog's in pain. And it's just another way. Again,
it's non evasive and there's no side effects of getting
some help for the dog. It helps the body to
heal itself. It helps sort of align the body.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
That is in chapter thirteen of the book, page one
forty five.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
By the way, now you also say that a pet
parent can actually learn how to do this energy healing techniques.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
Too, right, Yes, there's different places you can get learn
about the technique around the country, and I do have
those resources at the end of the chapter. And actually
each author has resources, their favorite resources on their topic
at the end of their chapter, so people can get
more information if they want to learn these techniques or
find a practitioner.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
In their area. That's why I love to, like you said,
after each chapter, it's very detailed other resources that you
can go to. In fact, one of our friends, one
of our former guests on pet Life Radio, Sherry Franklin
Fromville Senior Dog Rescue, She also contributed a chapter which
was great too. She did.

Speaker 8 (21:54):
Yeah, she wrote a chapter on the benefits of having
an adopting a senior dog and she did a really
good job.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Now I also like that. Your dog Claude, he had
a little chapter two. Was he the inspiration for this book?

Speaker 8 (22:09):
Yeah, he was one of them. And again, my client's dogs,
they would all ask me sort of the same questions
and want options out there. A lot of veterinarians aren't
aware of all the different more natural, you know, holistic
type options available to work, you know, in conjunction with
traditional veterinary medicine. And so that's why I wanted to
put this book together as a resource, so people could

(22:31):
have enough information they could decide if it's something they
want to pursue and look into or not. But then,
you know, people just feel like they just want to
do everything they can Towards the end, you feel guilty.
And that's why there's that chapter, the last chapter on
you know, grief and the guilt that we all deal
with towards the end, did we do enough or did
we really that kind of thing right?

Speaker 3 (22:53):
And I like also how each contributor has their own
little for lack of a better word, like the case
study or story or stories that they have been through
with some of their clients.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Which really they're great stories. I really love that tell
us about Claude.

Speaker 8 (23:11):
Claude. Yeah, Claude is a Golden Retriever and Golden's are
pretty typical to have some health issues there towards the
end because they're a larger breed. And his chapter is
from his perspective, from a senior dog's perspective, and as
they get older, there's different things that we can do
that most people may not think about, like having more

(23:32):
water dishes around the house, or if you have you know, tickle,
if you have stairs, it gets a little harder for
dogs to climb the stairs there towards the end, and
they do tend to slip sometimes on wood and tile floor,
so putting rugs down or there's different little booties you
can get to their feet, just sort of giving people
some you know, different ways of well, what can I
do to help my dog make his life a little easier.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Right, how's Claude doing these days?

Speaker 8 (23:56):
He's doing great, He's doing good.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
How old is he?

Speaker 8 (24:00):
Thirteen? Wow?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
He is doing fab huh yeah.

Speaker 9 (24:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Also, you have a chapter twenty one you talk about
when to get another dog, which can really be a
difficult decision for many pet parents, and you brought up
a really great point should you really get the same
and everyone is different, but should you really get the

(24:25):
same type of dog? Right?

Speaker 8 (24:27):
You know a lot of people are pretty grief stricken
and they think, oh, I'm not going to get another dog.
I can't go through this as well. And you know
there's I think the best legacy you can leave your
dog is to give that love to another.

Speaker 9 (24:40):
Dog that's in need.

Speaker 8 (24:41):
And sometimes people do think about getting the same breed,
the same color, But what happens is you kind of
have the same expectations for that dog is the other dog,
And it can make it a little easier if you
get a dog of a different breed, different size, different color.
And another option is to maybe foster a dog if
you're not ready to take on that commitment. There's lots
of dogs in need of just sort of temporary homes

(25:04):
that you know you could get a dog in and
help them out without making that commitment until you're ready.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Absolutely, what do you hope that people get out of
this book?

Speaker 8 (25:14):
Just you know, it's information Again. I just wanted to
compile all this together into one book so that when
people are going through this stage, they have all the
tools and resources they need to make the best decision
for their dogs care. So they have some they feel
like they have a little power and control. And there's
not a lot of resources for that end of life

(25:34):
time period. And there's actually free counseling. People can get
pet grief counseling. There's just a lot of resources I've
found through the years that most people aren't aware of that.
I just wanted to compile into this book and it's
meant just to keep around and you just read a
chapter or two when you need it and refer to
the resources when you need it. But it kind of
gives people a start to finish of options and information

(25:57):
and resources they needed that the last few years of
a dog's life.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
I know that you have been caring for senior dogs
with your clients for years now, but are you finding,
at least I am on my end, that there is
more out there now for senior dog care, and that
the outlook and the attitudes that people have towards older
dogs is improving.

Speaker 9 (26:21):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
And I think even in the animal shelters. I've volunteered
for years at shelters, but you know, ten fifteen years ago,
they might have, you know, euthanized the senior dog that
came in, and today that's really not the case from
my experience, that people are even coming and asking to
adopt senior dogs now, and well, there is a lot
of benefits.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Absolutely.

Speaker 8 (26:42):
You know, they're trained, house trained, they're usually a little calmer,
and some people don't want a dog for fifteen years.
Maybe you just want a dog for a few years,
maybe you're going to be retiring or what have you,
and there's just yeah, they're great, they're great. Anyone who
has a senior.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Dog knows absolutely.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
You know, there was a survey about a year ago
that said that more and more people on the go,
people who are still in their twenties and thirties, are
even looking at getting senior dogs because they are kind
of on the move a lot, and it's just so
much easier to take care of a senior dog than
it is one of the young guns.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
You know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Oh yeah, puppies. They're cute as can be, but they
are a lot of work, Yes.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
They are, Jennifer. Where can we get this book?

Speaker 8 (27:26):
It's available on Amazon. It will soon be available in
Barnes and Noble. It's available as an e book there
as a nook and also a kindle. And then the
book has a website where people can purchase it and
also get more information, and it's seniordogbooks dot com.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I love it, I truly truly do.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
I know you put a lot of leve into this book,
and the contributors that you have are top notch.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
And I learned a lot myself from reading this book.
So I really am so glad that we were able
to have you on.

Speaker 8 (27:59):
