في جبال دمشق، يقع سجن صيدنايا العسكري المعروف بوحشيته، حيث يُمنع فيه المساجين من الرؤية وتُعصب أعينهم أو يجبرون على مواجهة حائط زنازينهم، فتصبح ذكرياتهم مكوّنة من أصوات لا غير.
يقول أحد السجناء السابقين واصفاً سجن صيدنايا: "صيدنايا عبارة عن آلة قص وحرق وإذابة. وهي لا تدمّر الجسد فقط، بل تدمّر أرواح البشر أيضاً."
قضى جاكوب فاينغارتنر سنتين في توثيق شهادات عدد من الناجين من سجن صيدنايا لتوثيق الانتهاكات التي تحصل داخل أسواره. وتطالب منظمة العفو الدولية منذ سنوات بتحقيق عالمي عن آلة التعذيب السورية المتمثلة في النظام السوري. قد يكون جلب الانتباه للانتهاكات المُرتكبة في سجن صيدنايا أمل السجناء الأخير، خاصة مع عودة نفوذ نظام الأسد في جميع أنحاء سوريا.
