Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to simple man sermons, the preachings of
a simple man called by God to share the good
news of Jesus Christ. So let's get to the good news.
You'll find this in Matthew chapter five. Do not think
that I came to destroy the law or the prophets.

(00:21):
I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For assuredly,
I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away,
one joh or one tittle, will by no means pass
from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks
one of the least of these commandments and teaches men

(00:43):
so shall be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever does and teaches them shall be called great
and the kingdom of Heaven. Again, do not think that
I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I
did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. You see,
there are what I will call and point out as

(01:05):
false doctrines today thinking that because this statement is true,
which is also written in God's Word, Christ is the
end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Now,
a lot of people interpret that Christ is the end
of the law. It doesn't say that. It says Christ
is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone

(01:26):
who believes. Meaning, my righteousness and your righteousness does not
come from our obedience to the law. Our righteousness comes
by the blood of Christ. Our obedience is in Christ
and his obedience to the law. But that doesn't mean
you use that as a cloak to sin. It's not

(01:46):
a free ticket to sin. It's not an encouragement to sin.
It's also written, shall we continuan sin that grace may abound.
What does Paul say to that God forbid or Jesus
himself says, I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

(02:07):
Secrist doesn't remove the law, he in fact enforces it.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was
with God, and the word was God. Jesus is the word.
He by no means does away with the word. He
is the word. I would submit that he reinforces that
law and gives an even more strict interpretation than was before.

(02:29):
Let's read it from where we started and continue on.
Do not think that I came to destroy the law
or the prophets. I did not come to destroy, but
to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you till heaven
and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will
by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

(02:50):
Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches men so shall be called least in the
Kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches them shall
be called great in the Kingdom of heaven. For I
say to you, unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of
the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter

(03:12):
the Kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was
said to those of old you shall not murder, And
whoever murders will be in danger of judgment. But I
say to you, whoever is angry with his brother without
cause shall be in danger of judgment. And whoever says
to his brother raca shall be in danger of the council.

(03:34):
But whoever says you fool shall be in danger of
hell fire. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there remember that your brother has something against you,
leave your gift before the altar, and go your way first,
and be reconciled to your brother, And then come and

(03:56):
offer your gift agree with your adversary quickly while you
were on the way with him. Least your adversary deliver
you to the judge, and the judge hand you over
to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. Assuredly,
I say to you, you will, by no means get
out of there till you have paid the last penny.

(04:17):
You have heard that it was said to those of
old you shall not commit adultery. But I say to
you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for
her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out
and cast it from you, for it is more profitable
for you that one of your members should perish than

(04:38):
for your whole body to be cast into hell. And
if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it
off and cast it from you, for it is more
profitable for you that one of your members perish than
for your whole body to be cast into hell. Now,
let's be real for a minute. Which is easier to
not physically commit adultery on some or to not even

(05:01):
look at another person with lust? Again, he doesn't remove it,
he reinforces it. He says, not only should you not murder,
but don't hate your brother in your heart. She's also
written in the law. Because even if you even think
about it or speak against them, how many of us

(05:23):
have not been able to hold our tongue and said
something poorly about someone for who Christ died, or someone
for whom God loves. For as it is written, out
of the same mouth we bless God, our Father, and
cursed man who has made in his image. Out of
the same mouth proceedes blessings and cursing cursings. These things
ought not be so. Now, let me read the scripture

(05:44):
that inspired by the Holy Spirit discermon today. For I
had read it many times, but I was wrong about it.
I didn't fully comprehend it until a day or two ago.
You'll find this in the Gospel of John. I do
not pray for these alone, but also for those who
will believe in me through their word, that they also

(06:07):
may be one, as you, Father are in me and
I in you. That they also may be one in us,
that the world may believe that you sent me, and
the glory which you gave me I have given them,
and that they may be one, just as we are one.
I in them and you and me, that they may

(06:31):
be made perfect in one. And that's the part that
got me. I in them and you and me, that
they may be made perfect in one. Remember when we
read that, Jesus said, I didn't come to destroy the law,
but to fulfill it. Well, many times throughout the Bible

(06:53):
it says, be holy for I am holy. God tells
you to be holy, for he is holy. That's a
hard thing to do. That's a hard thing to walk out.
Be separate, be set apart, be different, be sanctified, be special.
God says, you're a holy people to the Lord your God.
You are set apart, and that's a hard thing to
walk out. But what does Jesus say. Jesus says in

(07:17):
the same book in Matthew five, be perfect. Therefore, as
your heavenly Father is perfect. Well, I had read that before,
and I thought, there's only one perfect man that's ever lived,
Jesus Christ. How can I be perfect? How can I
be perfect? I get how I can be holy? As

(07:38):
it is written in the first five books of the Bible,
be ye holy, for I am holy, And as it
is also written quoted in the New Testament and First Peter,
be ye holy, for I am holy. I get that
that's hard. But I get that. But be perfect now.
I get striving to be better than you are. I

(08:01):
get striving for perfection knowing that you won't reach it.
I get always striving to be faster than you are
right now, always striving to be stronger than you are
right now, always striving to be better at the talents
God's given you than you are right now. But be
perfect And then the other day, by God's grace, I
got it, just as we read, and just to some

(08:21):
people don't understand. For Christ is the end of the
law for righteousness, for everyone who believes. My righteousness is
not by how good I keep the law. My righteousness
is by the blood of Jesus, who kept the law
perfectly and gave himself as a substitution. I should have died.
He died for me. He became sin, who knew no sin,

(08:42):
that I might become the righteousness of God and him
a divine substitution, a perfect sacrifice and passover Lamb, that
my sins might be passed over. And I got that,
and then I got this, and the glory which you
gave me, I gave them that they maybe one, just
as we are one, I in them and you in me,

(09:04):
that they may be perfect in one. Jesus says, be
perfect as your father in Heaven is perfect. We are
made perfect because we are one in Him. We are
one in Christ Jesus. We are one with God. We
are made one reconciled by Jesus. We are perfect because
we are one with God. We are joined with Him,

(09:27):
and that is our perfection. We could never be made
perfect by observing the law. Can never be made perfect,
never be made righteous. That doesn't mean we don't still
keep it or don't still do it. But that's not
where our perfection comes from. Our perfection comes from our
unity with Christ. Our forgiveness comes by accepting the blood

(09:50):
of Christ. Are you familiar with Old Testament sacrifices where
the priest would come, The priest would examine the offering,
the blood that was about to be shed. Without the
shedding of blood, there is no remission. If the offering
the lamb was without spot or blemish. If the offering

(10:15):
was accepted was perfect, then the sin was forgiven. My
offering for sin, my sacrifice for sin, is Jesus Christ,
perfect without sin, without spot without blemish. Therefore my sin
is forgiven. Likewise my identity, my very self, as it

(10:39):
is written, I am in new creation. That's the wholesome
symbolism of baptism, that you die and are born again,
as Jesus tells Nicodemus, you must be born again, a
new life, a life in Christ. Jesus says, be perfect
as your father in Heaven is perfect. And just as

(11:00):
you can never be made righteous by keeping the law,
for it is written, all have sinned and fallen short
of the glory of God. You can only be forgiven
because of Jesus. And you can never be perfect, just
like you could never be forgiven, never justified by your

(11:22):
own works, you're justified by Jesus's words. Likewise, you can
never be perfect apart from Jesus. But we are made
perfect in Christ Hebrews Chapter ten. For by one offering,
now that one offering is him as his self. For
by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified.

(11:45):
We are only made righteous by the blood of Jesus.
We are only able to be perfect because we are
one with Jesus. Again, he didn't come to destroy the law,
but to fulfill it before people were called to be holy,
be special, part to be special, to be set apart.
And now we can be one. We can be one

(12:08):
with God, one with Christ. We can be one with Him,
a new creation, perfect, even more than holy, that they
all may be one as you Father, or in me
and I in you, that they also may be one
in us. Now this is called simple man sermons. Is

(12:29):
not a long sermon, but I think a divine revelation
for me. If you didn't know it already, and if
you did, perhaps a reminder what a glorious thing to
be able to be one with the creator and maker
of the universe, who made all things and sustains all things,
a god rich in mercy. When we deserved death and wrath,

(12:51):
he died for us while I was yet without strength
and due time. Christ died for the ungodly, simple, powerful truth.
Thanks and have a blessed day.
