Speaker 1 (00:02):
Nine podcasts, Great to be with You for six Tackles
with Gus for another week, looking at round fourteen of
the competition, the year pretty much halfway over, Believe it
or Not?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And an action packed episode today Locky Galvin's officially a Bulldog.
Could Tom Traboy bitch head to the English Super League?
Surely not? Could Brat Fitler be back in the coaches
box as Kangaroo's boss this year? The Broncos continue to struggle.
We've got a whole host of ask Gus questions, including
the latest viral trend. I'm going to ask Gus who

(00:38):
are his sporting goats across a whole different range of
sports because he is an all rounder with thanks to
the tab. Welcome Gus.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Matthew Thompson. How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Going well?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
You're good, I'm excellent. Much happening? No, Pretty quiet at
the moment, Pretty quiet at the moment.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Wh I don't I believe that?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Got a big week this week? Hoping to fill a
Core stadium on Monday for the big.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Clash the Bulldog versus the Eel.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Got forty five thousand to that game last year, but
both teams going well should get a lot more.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
This year, both going very well. That game on Sunday
was a cracking game, and could you believe it was
seventeenth versus fifteenth Penrith versus Para. It was like a.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Final incredible standard. I mean, the way Paramatter has improved
this year is a credit to all of them. A
new coach, Jason Rolls, and we sort of said it
earlier of the year when they were struggling. You know,
you get Mitchell Moses back, things are going to look
a hell of a lot different, and they have. But
there's no doubt that Jason Roles has really made a
big difference there and they're improving with every week. And

(01:39):
the game on the weekend against the Panthers, I mean,
we know how desperate the Panthers are at the moment,
and we know what they can produce when they're at
their best, and they had to pull out all stops
to get the Eels on the weekend, I thought it
was a terrific round of football. Actually, the games on
Sunday in particular were really good. I mean the round
started on Friday night. Dragon versus Night was months of

(02:00):
a game. Dragons were professional and got it done. The
Storm and the Titans. Well that was sort of in
the balance for a while. What about Cowboy versus West Tiger.
Oh my god, what a game that. It was shades
of a few years back. Didn't the Tigers come rollicking
back up there.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
In the Buntsville.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
They've done that a few times. Yeah, And there was
some controversy on the kickoff.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
It was a penalty. It was all time bill.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
It was thirty two six, and I thought, well, I'll
go and buy some dinner before I watched the seven
thirty game. I went up the raid to get something
to me. By the time I got there was thirty
two twenty twenty four or something.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
So I was in We record this at two GB
in Sydney. I was actually in here because I call
one of the Saturday games for the Continuous Call team.
I was doing the nighttime game and Daryl Browman and
Goal do the five thirty game though with Mark Levy
this week, and Gal said at thirty two to six,
if the Tigers come back, I'll eat Darryl's underpants.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Oh I heard yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
And so they just scored and scored and scored and scored,
and Gow was getting very very scared, and Daryl was
farting in his underas and trying to make it as
unsafe for as possible. That'd be big for Daryl's underpants.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
The big results Seagle versus Bronco thirty four to six.
We tipped manly, but I didn't see that scoreline. I've
got to be honest. That was great performance from Manley,
disappointing from the Broncos. The Rabbits and Warriors similar to
the Tigers and Cowboys. Warriors got out to a big
league but the Rabbit Oz you can never write them off.

(03:26):
Alex Johnson getting closer to his record Panthers and Earls
was a cracking game. Cracking game, and then if you
thought it couldn't get any better, I thought the Roosters
versus Raiders was an outstanding game. Was absolutely brilliant, absolutely brilliant,
and they're going so good, the Raiders and the Roosters.
He's coming back in New South Wales Cup this week,

(03:46):
so he won't be far away from the NRL and
that's going to make a big difference to them too.
They've got some great young talent coming through. We've been
talking about that all year and they're not far away
from putting some games together, So this competition, it could
flip on its head. We just don't know where it's
going to go over the next twelve weeks. As you say,
we're halfway through the year, but a long long way

(04:07):
to go.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You mentioned the Broncos. We might as well deal with
this now. That was the game I called on the weekend.
I was just scratching my head. There just looks to
be the lack of care. Yeah, look, a lack of urgency.

(04:29):
I don't believe that. I don't see that.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
And I know that was the commentary during the game
and since the game, and it tends to all feed
on each other. And this is what happens with our media.
I'm watching the game and I'm not seeing lack of
effort and I'm not seeing lack of care. Right. The
scoreboard influences people's opinions. The scoreboard makes it. They must
feel like that, and I think people get influenced by

(04:54):
the scoreboard a lot when they critique these performances. Interestingly,
after the AIM, they interviewed Adam Reynolds, and we interviewed
him again at one hundred percent fourty. He said there
were some real positives to take out of the performance.
So I went back and watched the game again, and
I saw a lot of individual effort. I saw a
lot of care, and I saw a lot of frustration.

(05:16):
And the body language of the players is not so
much despondent, and it's not so much we don't care
about what's happening. Is that they look a little bit
helpless at the moment as to why it's going the
way it is. It's I see individual effort. I don't
see lack of care at all, and I certainly can't

(05:38):
label them with that. I don't see lack of effort
at all. In fact, I think sometimes they're their own
worst enemy because they're overtrying. There's a fine line between
that and then getting your win and getting a little
bit of confidence back. But right at the moment, they're
playing without confidence, without cohesion, and without without direction. And

(06:02):
I don't that's not a slight on the leaders of
the team and giving them direction. It's just that they're
too frantic in what they're doing. They're trying to solve
problems instantly rather than taking a longer term approach to it,
and it kind of spirals out of control for them.
Add to the fact that mainly were very good. Mainly
were bouncing back from a disappointing performance a week before,

(06:24):
I mean a week earlier. Mainly got routed by paramatter
at PARAMOUNTA Stadium, got absolutely embarrassed. Cherry Evans came back
from Origin where he was roundly criticized because Queensland had
beaten beat and I think unfairly criticized, and had a
stormer of a game, and they scored some freaky manly
tries too that you know you're not going to score
against anyone. So what happens is the scoreboard runs against them.

(06:46):
Everyone who tipped Brisbane Broncos gets disappointed. Everyone thinks the
Brisbane Broncos should be doing this and that, and the
scoreboard runs against them, and all of a sudden they
start saying lack of care and lacking and.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I don't say, I don't see that. Well, I was
what I'm talking about, And this is my observation. It's
not I'm not echoing other people in the media are
saying it was the f You talk about effort areas,
and that's sort of something that you know, when you
sort of watch the game a lot, you kind of
you look out for that stuff like the kickchase was poor.
They didn't contest any kicks like I was just I

(07:18):
was mystified watching those sorts of things, just urgency, Blake's
looking at each other when the ball was rolling into
the goal, off for manly attacking kick and stuff like that.
I mean, maybe, as you say that manifests itself in
lack of confidence. Perhaps so, maybe it's not a lack
of care, but certainly in some of those areas, I

(07:38):
didn't appear to be up to scratch.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
That's what I call cohesion. I don't see a lack
of individual effort. I thought there were some players that
really tried hard, really tried hard. I mean, who could
fault the performance of paying Hearts and what he did
backing up from enormous the Origin game. And he had
plenty He had plenty of teammates too, that were really
trying hard. There are others, you know, like football, that's

(08:00):
a funny game. You get dragged along with momentum. When
the side is going good players can rise to the
occasion and they can be a part of the effort.
You get shrinkers and you get growers. There are some
that shrink under pressure, and there are some that grow
under pressure. There are some that are really good when
the going is good, and there are some that kind

(08:21):
of fade back into the background a little bit when
things aren't going good. They become small targets. They don't
want to be the problem with the side. It's up
to someone else to solve it. And I'm not saying
that's rife in the broncos I'm just saying that there
are growers and shrinkers are there when the game is
not going for them, and when the game is going,
when the game is going good for them, they're awesome.

(08:42):
And that's what everybody sees. So they expect that to
happen all the time. But when things go against them,
they just don't know how to handle the setback. They
don't know how to handle the difficulty in the game.
They don't know how to handle the scoreboard. That's what
they don't know how to handle. Because the further the
scoreboard run against them, the worse it got for them

(09:03):
in their execution. And in those areas, Adam Reynolds is
out there, it's mental. Adam Reynolds is out there on
the field, and Adam Reynolds is not a deal. He's
not going to he's not going to come hold after
the thing and make a fool of himself. He said,
I saw some really positive signs. There are things we
can take out of that, so he's feeling it during
the game. I think the problems with them mainly are mentally,

(09:24):
and I think that these are things that they just
need to settle down. And it's not going to be
sold overnight. But I think there are some simple fixes
mentally that can get them back on track and help
them deal with their difficulties a little bit better than
what they're dealing with it at the moment, because when
they get on the front foot, they're an awesome football team.
They've got great talent. Now, I'm not writing them off

(09:46):
at all. I'm not writing them off at all, nor
am I nor am I being overly critical of them either.
I'm certainly not going to label them with lack of
effort or lack of care. I'm not going to I'm
not going to label them with that. When you see us,
i'd like that. And whether they want one of their
last seven or something or other. All of a sudden,
oh you know, the players are off with the coach.

(10:07):
Where the coaches lost the dressing room or players. Aren't
you happy here? That's rubbish. I don't see that at all.
I just don't see that. But right at the moment,
they just need to take a breath of fresh air.
They need to sit and relax, and they need to
get in that room full of mirrors. Whether they can
all take accountability for what's going wrong and what's not

(10:28):
going right and sort it out. You can only sort
it out amongst yourselves. No one else is going to
come and help them. There's no cavalry coming over the hill.
No one's going to come and provide the solution for them.
They have to find it for themselves, and the answers
are in the dirt, mate.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
You've got to dig it out. They can't seriously be
talking about attributing any of this to the coaching methods,
can they. I mean, you hear these whispers about Brisbane
and coaching.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
But those sort of rumors come when results aren't what
everybody expected.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
They brought the coach into be a disciplinarian, and now
there's stuff leaking out or allegedly leaking out, saying he's
too tough.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I mean, you can't win, But I don't believe that well.
I don't believe that either. I don't believe that. I
just don't believe that. Yeah, but that's what people say
about any club that's struggling where people expected better. So
I don't I don't think that's an issue.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
No, no, no, no, all right. Alex Johnston will break
the record this year, Gus.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Well, Cadie Walker's back, they get Latrell back full time
after the Origin. What did the score on the weekend three?
They got Jack White and to come back, they may
get Cameron Murray back. Campbell Graham's got to get some
footy under his belt. But I think if you and
I played on the left wing for South Sydney would
be a chance of scoring triese every week. Anyone to
be a little stretch. Anyone who plays on the left

(12:08):
wing there seems to score tries. I've made this point
a few times. What's he on now? Two hundred?

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Is it two hundred?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I think he had a whole season off there where
Robert Jennings scored twenty tries on the left wing. I
think whoever's played on the left wing for Sow Sydney
in recent times it'scored plenty of tries, So he could
rack it up in the next month if he keeps
going the way he's going and sow Sydney. I mean
Cadie Walker's back now left side Latrell Mental, left side
Jack White and left side Kracky. You and I could

(12:36):
score tries on that wing.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
I'm not saying that they can win the comp but
they're a dark horse. South at full strength.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
There's a few dark horses who can win the comp.
You tell me who his favorite to win this premiership.
I think the winners well hidden. You know, everyone assumes
that Melbourne will get it right at the right time,
and they're short priced favorites, but that's only because people
can't work the rest of the competition out. And how
it looks the Broncos have got people missed. The Sharks,
we can't decide whether they're in or out. And the

(13:03):
Warriors are up there and the Raiders up there. You've
got to start believing what your eyes are telling you.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, with those sides, you've also got to start believing
what the ladder's telling And you've left the Bulldogs out.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Yeah, well, fly long way to go there, But I'm
just saying.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
That it's around fourteen.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Yeah, it's a long way to go. I'm just saying,
you know, and the Panthers, I mean, I know, don't
write the Panthers off. Just don't write them off. You know,
a team like the Dolphins could make a run, really
manly could make a run. You win half a dozen
games in a row in this camp, you leap frog everybody,
you just do. You know, we're halfway through the competition.

(13:41):
Where's the ladder at the moment? Let me shave them?
So we're halfway. What I hate is the buys. Why
do we get two points per buy? It just confuses it,
It just confuses everything.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Everything.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
But the team running eighth right at the moment on
the team running eighth is the Dragons, who have had
two buyers and five wins, so they're not really running eight.
The Rabbits are running eighth with a six and six record,
So fifty percent looks like it will get you in,
all right, But there are there.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Are Sixteenth is on four wins.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yeah, so sixteenth is on four wins, so they're not
that far away.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Eight is on five.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Like you could easily see the Panthers winning four or
five in a row, you know, at some stage, and
they're going to leave Frog a lot of sides, even
the Eels. I mean, don't you know the way they're
playing at the moment. Mitchell mases back with football unders
built after the Origin, they could put a string of
wins together. Now the Storm, the Storm has lost four
games now, No one expected that. Warriors and Raiders. That

(14:42):
was a great game a fortnight ago, and both of
them backed it up with big wins again on the weekend. Yeah,
it's a it's a funny comp It's a funny game
rugby league.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
So I've been told DC will be picked for Origin too. Well.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
I hope so, and I believe he should be. And
I'm not critical of his Origin one performance. It would
be very, very hard at that level to play behind
a pack that was beaten the way it was. I
don't think he had the possession or the field position
to make his mark in the game as a rebelt.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Well.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Both he and Munster were underpression. Neither of them really
did much in the game, to be honest, none of
their playmakers did. Harry Grant didn't do much and Calm
Ponger didn't do much. He was well contained, but they
were beaten up in the forwards and forwards win games.
The backs just decide by how many and unfortunately the
Queensland Fords just didn't get it done on the night.

(15:41):
New South Wales were too dominant. They just well they
dominated them. It was as simple as that, and it
was a very very good win. I've expressed what I
think the changes Queensland should make. I think they need
to help Harry Grant. I think they need to turn
Harry Grant into an asset and his best origin football
is coming up off the bench. They need a hooker

(16:01):
to start the game. They need someone to start the
game for the first twenty minutes to keep him out
of the physical barrage that he gets so that when
he comes on to the field he's a weapon and
he can do something really good for Queensland. I think
they need the leadership of Cherry Evans. They need his
kicking game. He showed his class on the weekend. He
destroyed the Broncos with his kicking game and he's passing game.

(16:22):
I wouldn't be dropping the half back because there is
no ready made replacement for him. I know Tommy didn''
is probably origin half back in waiting. He doesn't even
play half back for his club. He came on the field,
you know, well into the contests the other night, and
he was sharp and danced around and jumped around there.
One said, well, that's exciting. Let's put him in well,
put him out there at the start and let New
south Wales bang thirty tackles into him and see if

(16:44):
he's still so sprightly after thirty minutes when he comes on.
It's a different thing coming off the bench to starting
a game, particularly when you're playing the class of the
New South Wales side. This is a very very good
New south Wales side. It's a good Queensline side. You know,
I was surprised how dominant was, but New South Wales's
had a lot of ball early there. Forwards rumbled forward.
New South Wales played it really smart on clearing and

(17:06):
Moses played it smart and they were just too good
for them on the night. Game two could be completely
different if Queensland can get the jump on them and
handle the first twenty minutes better and keep themselves in
the contest, and you know, Cherry Evans and Monster can
get a little bit more feel position. Who knows what
might happen. So I still think the Blues will be
too strong, but you know, it's origin.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Anything can happen. So Queens that have been pumped in
their two games in Perth, but both times they've been
out there of one game one, so they've never been
there before trying to keep the series alive and that's
a very different dynamic, very.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Very different for them, but very different for them.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Brad Fieler will be the new Australian coach.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Why not? Why not? We spoke about Cameron Smith the
other night. I think with the Australian job, it's very
very handy if you have experience in and around the
Australian camps. Situation tours, short preparations, end of season preparations,

(18:05):
mid season preparations, lengthy tours and you know, and where
are they going to get the end of the year
the kangaroo to it? Are they going to win? Is
Mel going to do that? Or is he going to
start with?

Speaker 2 (18:16):
The understanding is is to be named as the new
coach of Perth this week and you'll have to stand
down immediately, Okay, And the AARL Commission wants to appoint
a new Australian coach pretty much straight away.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Well yeah, I think I think Brad Fittler is the
right choice in waiting. I think he's done his time.
He's he's worked at all levels of representative football, from
under sixteens and under eighteings and forming the pathways for
the new South Wales origin coach at the Origin level,
played at the Origin level, played at the Test level.
He's the one with experience of those camps. Cameron Smith

(18:51):
down the track. Obviously, he's got a legends record, is
the greatest player number of games played as any player,
and he'll get his turn as well. But I think
if you go in order of qualification, then Brad Feitdler's
well qualified to do the job if he wants. I
don't know if he wants it. I don't know if
he wants it. There's anyone well.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
I think he was asked on Sunday on Sports Sunday
and his comment was well, I haven't had any direct discussions,
but you know, I think it's a job that i'd
be interested.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
I think it's a job if someone asked you to
do it, you'd probably say yeah, oh for sure. I
think he's I think he yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
And Camp said the same thing on Monday night.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Yeah, I don't think Cameron's got any ambition to coach,
but he said the Australian side would be something that
he would consider because it's a bit different and I
think for those players that make that level of football,
particularly with a kangaroo tour or end of season, you know,
when they've played a hard and long, hard season and
they need to go in and get ready for a
try series or you know a three match Test series

(19:54):
against England or New Zealand or mid mid season tests.
I just think that to have have been in and
around and experience what the Australian camp looks like and
feels like and how it should be run and sort
of how they bring their football together, I think that's
that's hugely advantageous. So yeah, well you know, if he

(20:15):
wants it, I hope he gets it.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Do you think they've been any blowback about Brad's track
record with exploiting people's bar tabs on kangaroo tours?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Well, that's another story. That's another story, many many years ago.
Brad Fiddler. I can tell you a lot of stories
about young Brad Fitdler. Young Brad Fidler was very different
to old Brad Fittler. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
I don't know if it's still there.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
Any I'm hearing talk that there's been he's let his
hair down.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Now there's a little glimpse you can see that as
he's entitled to many many many years ago. When he
was young, he was we're out of Panthers and he
was coming off contract. And I said to him, said, well,
I can't remember the exact figures. I don't know what
they were. He said, I said, i'll pay. I said,

(21:05):
I'll pay you this. Let's say it was one hundred thousand.
I'll pay a hundred thousand. He said no, no, he
said I want one hundred and twenty thousand. I said no, no, no,
too much. I said one hundred thousand. I said, that's there.
I said, I'll tell you what i'll do. I said
that every time you go into rep Camp. And then
I said, i'll pay you. I'll pay your room. You know,
your room service bill. I had a better better off
painting three hundred thousand. The room service bill was.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
So, what was the story about the nine to ninety
Kangaroo too? Did he eat the club covered his bill?

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Is it this is what you're talking about?

Speaker 2 (21:35):
No, no, no, no, no, no not.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Then it was the ninety ninety Kangaroo Tour was very,
very funny because he was young, like he was a teenager,
and he was a bit of a sensation. He was
playing in the centers and he was having a good
year and Bob Fulton was the coach, and Bob Fulton
rang me late in the season. He said, I'm thinking

(21:58):
about taking young Brad fit on the Kangaroo tour.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Now.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Was he one of the young I know Jeff Starling
was the youngest one to ever be a Kangaroo tourist,
but Brad Fitlan might have been one of these. It
was only a kid. Yeah, I said, I'd be good
for experience, he said. He said, I wouldn't. I'm not
going to play him in any of his test matches.
He said, I'll just take him along for the experience
because he's going to be a Test player of the future.
He said, I think they took twenty six players away

(22:22):
on those days, you know. And he said, he said, so,
you know. I said, well, don't tell him. I said,
we're running into the semi finals, you know. I said,
I'll let him know later on. So we're getting towards
the back end of the finals, and I pulled him aside.
I said, listen, I said, when this Grand Finals, we
made the Grand Final, we're playing Camera in the greend Final.
So the Grand Final was over and I said, listen,

(22:44):
I said, you're probably going to get a call in
the next forty eight hours. I said, Bob Fulton spoke
to me a few weeks ago about going on the
Kangaroo Tour. I said, now, it's for experience. It's just
for life experience and football experience. I said, it's a
great honor. I said, you're going to be going on
the Kangaroo Tour and I said, this is the thing

(23:05):
that all players aspire to. And I said, you know,
you're very young. You're not going to play in any
of the test matches. You're probably playing a few of
the other games I used to play against club sides
and all that sort of thing. So you're there to learn.
You're there to learn off all the other players, and
learn off Bob Fulton, he's a great coach, and have
a good time and see a bit of the world
and enjoy yourself. I said, but you know you handle
yourself professionally and he said yeah, Gussie, Yeah, Gussie. I said,

(23:30):
I said, yeah, So anyway, so sure.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Did you leave a discussion thinking it had sunk? H No,
I still have concerns. I still have.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
But and my concerns were well found. So yeah, So
he forty eight hours later or twenty four hours later,
he gets named to go on the Kangaroo tour, and
so we get him all these gear and get him
set up and where he goes, and I'll give him
his final warning and.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Off he goes.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Well, all that fell on death is because yeah, he
came back from the tour with the reputation as the greatest.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Party in the world.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
He was into everything, everything, whatever was going, Freddy was in.
He was a star of the tour from here to Mars.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yeah, but he didn't have to pay for his room
service bill or drink spill. Didn't the club have to
pay for it? Yeah? Yeah, we need to pay for
his room service. But it was it was a fortune,
wasn't it.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
He shouted everyone, He shouted all of England, he shouted everyone. Oh,
it was just hilarious. We were better off painting three.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Ladies and gentlemen, your new Australian coach got on your
Freddy Lucky Galvin's officially at Belmore has been named in
jumping number twenty three for the Long Weekend, the King's
birth Day Long Weekend. It's Michael Jordan's.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Number twenty three, Shane WARN's number.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Shane Warne's number. Well Jordan started at all. Yeah, when
Luckie Galvin's ended up with it. That isn't that poetic?

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Yeah, a little bit of poetry and all that he's
going to play. I honestly don't know. I don't know.
There's still a fair way to go. We don't play
till Monday. Bulldogs haven't played since two Thursdays ago, so
it's a huge break. Eighteen days off in the middle
of the season. Rep players went away, coach gave him
six days off, so they won't really only come back

(25:34):
in this week. And they've got still got three sessions
three fourth session. What do they've got today? Wednesday? They
train Thursday, they train day off, Friday, train Friday, Saturday,
Sunday and play Monday. So there's a few more sessions
to go there. I think that the one thing as
a coaching staff, and in any discussions they've had with me,
is that there's no need to rush this. We're signing

(25:57):
for three years, not three weeks and we need to
make sure the team is confident in Stettle going into
Monday's game. He has been training with him the last
couple of days and fitted in really well from a
personality point of view and all of that, and he's
been very, very good with the other players. But the
coaching staff will make a decision between now and Monday

(26:22):
as to whether or not he plays a role Monday,
or he may even go around. In the New South
Wales Cup, they play on the same day, so they
play on Monday afternoon, expecting or hoping for a big crowd.
You know, we've got sixty five thousand to the good
Friday crashing class against Sourth Sydney. We think we can
break that down. I think the ten dollar tickets are
back on for Level six up there for people that
want to come out and have an afternoon's entertainment. Big

(26:44):
following paramounta big following Bulldogs. We've got forty five thousand
of this game last year and I think we can
do better this year. So really hoping their big crowd
turns up and that'll be a great experience for for
our reserve grade young reserve grade side too. Mitch Woods
is going to have his first game Mitch Woods. People
have seen him on the horizon for a while. He's
going to have his first start in New South Wales

(27:05):
Cup on the weekend because we wanted him to experience
a course stadium with.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
A good crowd there.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
They're probably thirty or forty thousand what's the reserve grade
in the afternoon. Make a day's entertainment out of it
and come out and watch the football where Lachland Galvin
plays on the weekend.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
I don't know. Have you sort of sat down and
met him yet?

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Yeah, yeah, I've seen him around. Nice kid, lovely kid.
Do you think he's been rattled by what's happened?

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Certainly doesn't show signs of that. He's been very determined.
I think he's I was talking to Danny Whidler the
other night because they interviewed him one hundred percent footy.
Danny went and interviewed him. I didn't know that interview
was taking place. It was worked out with his manager,
good start. Well. I think his manager gave a couple
of sides of media an opportunity to talk to him
just because of how the sort of things had transpired.

(27:55):
Danny said he'd never met a more mature kid, and
he really handled the quest as well. When they sat down,
there was nothing was off limits he could talk to him.
There were a few things legally they had to pull
out of the interview and he wouldn't talk beat because
there are some other matters around his termination with the Tigers,
But he just did that. He stride virtually. He said

(28:16):
that everything has been he's under his control. He's run
the race here. His manager works for him. He doesn't
work for his manager. He's the one that told his
manager what he wanted and where he wanted to go
and what he wanted to do. And the things escalated
pretty quickly because his first intention was just to let
West Tigers know he wasn't going to continue after the
end of the twenty sixth season, and he was happy

(28:38):
to play out his contract there. How things escalated and
from there, well, it's been played out in the media.
But how I thought, I thought his interview gave a
more measured description of exactly what's gone on if you
take all the media fluff out of it and all
the other agenda driven stuff. He was fairly direct, very honest,

(29:00):
and as he said, you know, all the criticism that
comes his way or whatever people think or what the
media says. He said, I've got to copy that on
the chin. Very mature. I don't I don't know too
many nineteen year olds that would actually have done the interview,
to be honest, But to have handled it as well
as he did, I thought was exceptional. But he's been

(29:21):
he's virtually been in there all day every day. He's
been around the coaches in the video room, and he's
he won't go home. They can't get him to go home.
He's he's on the training field for an hour after
everyone's finished. He's just he's keen to get back into it.
And you know, as I say, we've invested in the player.
We believe he's going to be. We believe, you know,
over the next three years he can develop into well,

(29:42):
we have our opinions where we think he'll get to.
And that's what we've bought. That's why we've invested in him.
And as I said, with the coaches, there's no there's
no hurry to find the solution in the next in
the next two or three weeks. And we've got him
for forgot.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Him for three years.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
It was just a great opportunity to get him into
the system now so that we can get a running
start on what his future is going to look like.
How much of a role he plays this week or
even this year, I don't know, so that's really up
to the coaching staff and Lachlan Galvin. I'm not saying
you won't play Monday, but that's far from decided at
the moment. At the moment, he's on the extended bench.
He's training with the team, and he'll train with the

(30:19):
team every day and there's a good chance he might
play New Southwelles Cup on the weekend. If not, i'd
imagine you'll come off the bench. But he certainly won't
be starting in the team.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Okay, well, I suppose he'd be hoping that the immediate
saga of all that stuff's been put to bed. But
Manly have started negotiating with Jake and Tom Traboyevitch about
extending their respective careers on the Northern Beaches. So they're
both off at the end of twenty twenty six. But
that means come November one, there on the open market,
as it were, neither would ever want to play against many.

(30:54):
They've made that known publicly Jake, it would appear at
the moment wants to stay. There's talk that Tom. Now
you'll remember, let's put some context around if Tom wanted
to refund some of his some of his wage to
the club because he's been injured so much. And now
he's saying, if me taking up big money being here
hinders the progress of Lehi, Hoppawte and others at the club,

(31:18):
I'll even go to England.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
He's a bit too good for England. I would hate
to seem lost to the UK. I can understand those
Trebovitch boys wanting to see out there playing days with
the manly Seagulls, but you know where that lands, I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
It says a lot about him that he'd be prepared
to walk away from the NRL to try and help
the club develop.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
He's a lovely kid. Honestly, he's a lovely human being.
Tom Trabovitch is a lovely human being, and he would
be frustrated more than anyone that you know at times
his body hasn't allowed him to give the service that
he would need. But there is no doubting that at
his best he is one of the games, one of
the all time great players and all time great fullbacks
that have ever played the game. It's just physically he

(32:06):
hasn't had a lot of luck and a lot of
joy and I hope that improves for him so he
can have more confidence to go forward and back himself
going forward. Yeah, I think it would be. It would be.
It wouldn't be nice that either of those players ever
have to play against Manly and can't finish their career
at Mainly. And it's one of the things, you know,

(32:26):
salary cap wise, the game needs to look at so
that long serving players don't cost younger players their opportunities
in the salary cap, and that something else that can
be negotiated with those sort of players. I think one
club players is something.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
That's my pet, right with the salary cap.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
The players, you know, the fans love that. Yeah, So
you know, hopefully hopefully something like that can be designed
down the track. But I can understand where Tom's coming from,
and I can understand probably the frustration with Mainly, who
would be paying him a lot of money and they
don't get a lot of football out of him, and
you know, they have got other young players coming through.
If they were if they were to lose a cooler

(33:05):
or they were to lose a Hopawati or for Waalah
and all these good kids that are sort of hovering
around that position. Because Tom was taking up so much
money but wasn't playing, then that's that's a difficult that's
the difficulty under our salary cap that we have.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
So that's what he said that he's told close to him,
top people close to him he'd be open to a
move to the Super League in twenty twenty seven if
it was in the seagulls best interest for him to
leave the club. He'd previously applied to the NRL but
had a request rejected for him to take seven hundred
and fifty thousand dollars out of his contract. Yeah, and

(33:45):
have it taken out of Manly's salary cap over the
next two years.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Once you have registered a contract for a play, you
can't reduce that amount. It can't be reduced. They're just
the rules of the salary cap. I think everyone everything
should be negotiated on appeal. I think there should be
an appeals tribune or where you can go in and
appeal things, and I've done it with the salary cap
order there a number of times over the years with players,
particularly with players with serious injury and long term injury.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
If you are looking to develop talent, and we're going
to the competition is going to expand. The clubs are
the ones that have to absorb the burden of developing
talent for the game. They should be provided with dispensation.
That's an incentive to develop.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
But the frustrating argument is the frustrating argument. They come back, oh,
well that's why I got a thirty man squad to
put up with injuries. Well that's not the answer that
that's not satisfactory. And I'm I'm not publicly campaigning here
on behalf of the Balldogs or anyone else. I'm just
saying that the game needs to have greater flexibility around
that because you know, we've got clubs signing ten year deals.

(34:47):
I mean, Dylan Brown signed for ten years at massive money.
Now what if Dylan Brown ran into a series of
injuries over the next you know, period of time and
missed a lot of football, you know, and was unable
to get back to the level that they expected, or
he's playing out at the moment, you know. I mean,
there are certain there are there are certain risks that
you have with these contracts, whether it's a three year

(35:08):
contract or a ten year contract or what have you
signing them at a young age or signing them at
an older age. But it's kind of like, well, the
club's got to wear the lot. There's no there's no comeback.
And I don't think that the I don't think that
the discounts for development, we're not encouraging. We don't encourage.
There's no incentive and there's no reward for development because

(35:29):
it's capped at a certain level. The discounts in your
cap for long serving players or developed players is capped
at a certain level, so you know, you might have
you might have a few, a handful of players, and
then a club like Penrith that might have twenty.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Players that should be entitled to a huge.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
Discount and reward for all the effort that they put
into the money they spent developing those players, and it
would incentivize other clubs to do the same.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
It would incentivize other clubs to develop.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Which then you know, if we go to twenty teams,
we've got players.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
That's how you solve your talent is.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
It seems logical, doesn't it?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yeah? Yeah, But instead clubs are being punished for development.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
If someone had that foresight twenty years ago, we wouldn't
be having this conversation today. Mind you, we were saying
this twenty years ago as well.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
But it could be changed pretty quickly. They could chat. Well,
the emphasis of them, no of the salary cap could
change quickly.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I don't think it will because I just I don't.
I think they've come this far with it. And don't
get me wrong, I work with the salary cap blacks
all the time. They're great blacks. They understand it, they
get it, they sympathize with it, but they're reluctant to
change the rule for fear other people will walk through
the precedent and argue the precedent, and then it'll be
you know, oh they got it, why can't we And

(36:41):
we did it, you know, we can retire this player
and blah blah. And then they worry about blocks getting
paid on the side, or getting paid outside the cap
and all these sorts. They're not worried about doing it.
They're worried about the accusations that you know, people in
the media will make or whatever they're doing.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
And they do anyway, well that's what they do.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, as soon as you signed three players. They saying
you're treating the salary cap.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
Could I ask it? Can I direct this more to
a slightly humorous angle? Are the salary cap ordered as nerds?

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Nerds?

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yeah? Are they nerds? They like maths, numbers, nerds like
your accountant.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Is every accountant in the world a nerdy?

Speaker 2 (37:16):
All of them? My account My account's a knock about,
knock about. But I think at the heart of it,
you're a nerd.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
My account doctor death, my accountant. Sorry, he's never got
any good news from me. He's never got any good news.
Does he know you call him death?

Speaker 2 (37:34):
He's a most conservative black in the world. Well you
don't need him. You need a renegator as an accountant.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
No, you don't.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I'm happy, good old time. He's a beauty. What do
we come up with there?

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Nothing? Come up with nothing.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
The NRL season is here for the best time in sport.

substituting six Tackles Trivia for the viral sensation for Gus
this week. Gus's Goats I'm going to ask him the

(38:13):
best sports people in a whole bunch of different sports.
I've seen a lot of this on Instagram and stuff,
and it's quite good. So this is your opinion. There's
no criteria. You just answer the question according to what
you think. Okay, the best player in these following sports ever?

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Ever, Ever, I'm not good at these sort of things.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
Yes you are, You're an all rounder. But you can
have it. You have an opinion. Okay, so you're not.
There's no justifying this at all.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
But who cares about my opinion?

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Everyone?

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Now, they don't I do?

Speaker 2 (38:42):
I love this stuff?

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Can I have a go on tennis? Tennis, Roger Federer? Yeah, Boxing,
Muhammad Ali, Olympian, Olympian, Olympian, Carl Lewis.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Oh, I love Carl Lewis. I loved him. Golf, golf,
Tiger Woods, soccer, pella mm hmm. I was gonna ask
you cricket, but everyone will say Bradman. So can I

(39:24):
ask you who's second to Bradman in the cricket?

Speaker 3 (39:28):
The greatest cricketer ah, way too hard, way too hard,
way too hard. The greatest cricketer outside of the dog,
outside of the don I used to love watching Shane

(39:54):
warn Bowl.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I'd say Shane one I used to watch.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
I used to love watching Shane warn Bowl. Didn't like
what I didn't like watching him.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
But he was andy with the bat. Yeah, but he
just throw his wicket away. Scored the most Test runs
of anyone that ever make a Test on hundred.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
He didn't make it. He didn't make a hundred, did
he not? What was that game where he got out
for ninety ninety against New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
It was a no ball theniel A Tory Bold.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
He was out far over the line and it was
a stupid shot, a stupid shot. It was a dumb
only he could do it. Yeah, are many many great cricketers,
I mean from all nations too, I mean crickets. You
know it's in the national.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Statistically the greatest cricketer ever Jaques Callis. Yeah, but this
is your opinion.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
All round us Ian, both of them, Gary Sobers, Brian Lara, Yeah,
I love Lara.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
I've got some footy questions for you too, okay ready,
greatest leader rugby League, greatest leader leader, Oh, greatest leader.
I was going to say captain. But leadership comes in
different forms, doesn't it. Wally Lewis the king for you,

(41:08):
Chack Cameron Smith, hardest man.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
The hardest man, hardest man.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
She is not too hard, too hard? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Bunny Riley knocked me four teeth out one day.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
He was what about hardest men you played against?

Speaker 3 (41:39):
All hard?

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Criky uh Bruiser Clark.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
I think I've told you this story before, back in
the old days where they used to have big leads
in rugular league weeks and that they used to player interviews,
you know, and they always to say, who's the hardest
tackle you've ever had? They all said there was a
bloke plane for Norseyn. He called Keith Harris. Oh yes,
that's right, backgrower, and it was like three out of
the very before would say Keith Harris, Keith Harris, Keith Harris,
and I said he must anyway, he hit me at

(42:10):
North Sydney over one day. I never did one of
those interviews, but if they said he's the hardest tackle,
I would say, Keith Harris, Yeah, Bunny right, he knocked
my teeth out?

Speaker 2 (42:19):
What is it? What is it that makes a bloke
a hard hitter? But how but how like like Trevor Gillmeister, right,
not a big guy, and he used to whack blakes.
How do they do it?

Speaker 3 (42:30):
He had a great technique. Yeah, great, Liam Martin, Liam Matt,
he's out of the old book. He's got a great technique. Yeah,
it's just in a great technique and some some likes
are just bony and raw power and you know, really
hit hard. Yeah. Back in the early days there was
swinging arms and elbows and knees and you know, there
was all the legal stuff that went in it as well.
But when you got rocked by a really hard ball

(42:53):
and all tackle, like you run on the black hard
and he absolutely crunches you, you know that's they're they're
blocks with the technique that you know becausework yeah balance, Yeah,
like famous not famous box, but the boxing cakes that
I had. You said you never get knocked out by
the punch.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
You see, that's true.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
If you see it coming, you won't get knocked out
by it. That's you know. So you've got to keep
your eyes on your target and what you're doing. It's
it's the one you don't see coming that knocks you out.
Or it's pretty much the same with the tackle, and
it's the one you don't see coming that hits you,
but when you see it coming, when you actually invite it,
because you run hard at it, and then they go
crack and it knocks the wind out of you and

(43:35):
you can just feel it in every bone in your body.
You know you've been hit. And some some blokes were
really good, you know, like now all the swinging arms
and knees and take. There were plenty of brutal blokes,
you know, you know, there were plenty of brutal people,
vicious people, but the really good technique ball and all
crunch you type tackles. When they get you, they get

(43:57):
you good.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
I tell you, He's always been a great defender. But
I've noticed the last few weeks, just a call a
few of the games. Jack de Bellen, Jack.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Yeah, Jack's got a great, great defensive technique. He's a
good defender. I don't know he's a great hitter, but
he's a good defender. Yeah, we don't have as much
hitting in the game these days because you've got to
be careful. But most of the most of the defense
that they've got you've really got to catch and grab
in the day these days, you know, there are very
few hitters like Victor Radley tries to be a hitter.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Not anymore, he's reformed.

Speaker 3 (44:27):
Yeah, well, he tries to be a hitter to his
own detriment most of the time. Liam Martin still does
it particularly well. A few of those wingers that come in,
you know and blindside players and hit him before they
get the hit the ball, and they've got great technique. Yeah,
but yeah, yeah, I got hit by Keith Harris one day.

(44:47):
Crunch rocks in your BACKI has I think the feelings
fell out.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
He look tough. Can he have you got a receiving him?
Find a fight with Keith Harris.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
It wasn't an overly big man, too tallish if I
remember rightly, and some blacks just tired. I saw a
great interview once there is Rex. Yeah's the name? Yeah,
Keith Harris. Wow, even a bit of a baby.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Face he does, doesn't He looks so innocent?

Speaker 3 (45:19):
I saw, I saw Rex must have been interviewed Blake
one day. Charlie Frith, Remember Charlie Frith, I remember the name.
Charlie Fred played for South Sydney and Rex. Rex used
to love giving the man of the match to the
front rower. They always loved from Rex was the front
rower too. Oh, there's Charlie. There's Charlie free looking Blake.
They interviewed Charlie after the game one day. Rex Rex

(45:41):
was going to interview was man of the match. And
this is way back years and years and years ago.
I mean, a dressing room interview was a rarity. And
you know, so there's Rex with his microphone and he's
talking to Charlie Frith and Charlie Frith was a big boy.
You know, Rex's standing and Rex was a big man too,
and Rex is standing alongside him. He said, well, Charlie said,
you went great that. He said, you got my man
of the match. And Charlie said, thanks for that. He said,

(46:04):
you're a big fellow, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
He said yeah. He said you look.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
Like you can fight. Can you fight?

Speaker 2 (46:11):
Nah? But I shocked the feeler thought they could.

Speaker 3 (46:16):
Nice, Oh, very nut.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
But I shocked the feel you thought they could. This
has six tackles with Gas on the other side. We'll
have a look at round fourteen of the NRL GUS
before we get into our tips. Thanks to the tab
I'm not a bit of a social media blitz this week.
I don't engage a lot in social media because genuinely speaking,

(46:42):
it's a seth pit of garbage, but every now and
then you see a little bit of gold. I found
this combining a man who has appeared multiple times on
our podcast in recent week, Donald Trump on one of
his rants, and your favorite chess, Seinfelder. I thought this
was very funny.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
They want a band straw.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
Has anybody ever tried those paper straws?

Speaker 3 (47:06):
They're not working to right?

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Has anybody ever tried, seriously, the news.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
Short's made out of paper, right, it disintegrates as you're drinking.
If you have a nice tie like this time, this
would have no chance.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
By the time you get finished, the straw is totally disintegrated.
Does anybody walk around with a plastic straw? Because it's
not bad?

Speaker 1 (47:28):
You know, you whipping out form. You never had to
do that.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
So they want to band straws?

Speaker 1 (47:33):
They said, oh really, what about the cart? What about
the plate?

Speaker 2 (47:37):
What about the knives and the spoons and a plastic
Oh they're okay, But the straws. We got a band.
I hae praws too. I hate paper. Is it funny?
You put that music to anything, it becomes immediately funny.

Speaker 3 (47:52):
He's funny, he is really fun I hate paper straw.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
I like getting it beld chocolate thick shake from Meccas,
and the paper straw is no good.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
Well, if I get it for a slurpy, if I
get a chocolate thick shake for Macas, I don't want
a straw.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
I'd like to drink it out of the cup. Yeah,
I have to try that.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
But if I'm having I love a chocolate milkshake, but
I've got to have a plastic straw. Absolutely, paper straws
and everything else. Papers, plastic straws are going to save
the paper straws are going to save the planet.

Speaker 2 (48:25):
Give me a break. I had one of the best
chocolate milkshakes I've ever had.

Speaker 3 (48:28):
I'm going to get rid of my social media. I think, yeah,
I've got off Twitter. I think it's gone. I think
I think it's run a thrace.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
I got off Twitter months ago because it's.

Speaker 3 (48:36):
Just Twitter is handy, like when you're working in the
when you're working for clubs and that sort of handy
to put news out there and do all that sort
of thing. But a lot of rubbish out there, A
lot of rubbish.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
Tell me about it.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
I don't have Facebook, I don't have Instagram anymore. What
are the other ones? I don't think. I never had
TikTok and I don't have TikTok.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
I never had. It's a Chinese spying platform.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
What's the other one? Snapped? I never had a Snapchat?
I've sort of had.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
Have you got only fans?

Speaker 3 (49:05):
I should have had? No, I've sort have had. I've
had Twitter for a number of years, mainly just around
promotion and the allans, And I think I'm going to
get rid of it.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
What do you think people like your Twitter? As I said,
I didn't even have it anymore. You should keep it.

Speaker 3 (49:23):
Well, it's not really informative anymore. Well, media is not
informative anymore. I don't read mainstream media. I haven't done
for twenty years. I couldn't be bothered. I think, I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (49:37):
We could start an only fans page for you where
you just talk about footy tactics and get people to
subscribe and pay money. No fully clothed, but you just
just pay for your opinions and tactical analysis. We can
make a fortune.

Speaker 3 (49:50):
I don't think anyone would be paying for that.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
Only if you're clothed. Okay, let's prove you around for
Dan Thanks to the tab there's changes everywhere.

Speaker 3 (49:59):
I think I'll get rid of Twitter. Okay, I'll turn
it off. They'll right about that in the paper. When
you get rid of Twitter. They normally do Thursday Night footy.
You can see it on nine seven thirty pm. Kaylen
Pong is back in the number one jersey after being
arrested last week following Origin one, so Fletcher Sharp goes
back to five eight the guess what, Gus, He's changed
the halves again.

Speaker 2 (50:18):
Jack Cogger's back at half back. Brady Jones starts in
the front row, with Leo Thompson serving a four game
band for a crusher tackle. Young back Elijah Salissa. Leo
Moana will make his NLDEVO off the bench, and Greg
marsh is in the extended's cord so might come in.
Jake der Boyvich is back from concussion, Tabanga to the bench,
Lodge out and Alloy ahard his shoulder again last week,

(50:39):
so top Sipley will come into the manly team.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
Well, I mean the night's a couple of weeks ago
at bathists were really good, weren't they. I know the
Panthers had a lot of players missing, but you know
they they got their win and you thought, well, maybe
that'll lead to something. I thought they were awful. Oh man,
last week again that was hard to watch. It was
hard to watch. I mean, Dragons were never under any
threat and didn't have to do much to win. But
they did it. They did it as well as they could.

(51:07):
But that would have been disappointing. Well again, you're going
to have to wait for Knights to show something before
you can tip. Manly were good. They belded the Broncos.
You can't possibly tip against them. I suppose so Manly
to be.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Night, I'm reminded. Actually, Cogga played last week. I think
he was named on the bench but came in. Gamble
missed the game. I think did he know he was out?
Someone missed last week, but Coga played anyhow. He was
wearing eighteen last week. He wears seven this week. Early
game Friday down at Amy Park in Melbourne. The Storm
versus the Cows, Xavier Coats and Harry Grant arrested last week,

(51:46):
they come back in. Todd Payton's got the same seventeen
that got the money against the West Tigers. Well just
got the money. I led thirty two six that he
got run down.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
Yeah, It was an uneasy lead too, And I mean
West Tigers had Cindy on two or three occasions during
the game and all the points were scored when the
sin bins were on. Sinbins are such a punish. We
have way too many sinbins. But yeah, Cowboys. You know,
if Cowboys were going to win this, they're going to
have to win at forty to thirty eight or something.

(52:16):
It's just they're just one of those sort of teams,
aren't they. Yeah, I can't tip against Melbourne in Melbourne. Yeah, Cowboys.
Cowboys have got the points in them. They got the
points in them. But you know, Harry Grant back zab
A cache back, I'll go with Storm.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
Friday Night footy. This one is coming to you on
nine from seven to thirty pm. It's at sun Corps Stadium.
It's the Dolphins versus the Dragons. The Hammers back at
fullback after missing the win over the Bulldogs and origin
Judy so Jake Avarille goes back to the centers. Jeremy
Marshall King and Max Plater both on the extended bench
and could both come into the team, which would be

(52:54):
massive for them. For the Dragons, Lucian Lailua comes into
the starting team for Jaden Sewer, who's out because of
an act, which is a shame because I reckon he
was in Billy's thinking. Jaden self. Raymond for Taalamaran is
on the bench. Toy Polato's back, but the young Rugby
will not say young. He's twenty six. Nathan Lawson, who
de booted last week, the Rugby seven star, keeps his
place in the team. Gus and Tyrol Sloan's gone to

(53:16):
the reserves.

Speaker 3 (53:18):
Yep, important game for both clubs. I mean this is
two points you get and two points someone else doesn't get.
You know, they all sort to congregate around the eight,
and that's really important. I think Marshall, King and Plath
will probably play if they're going to be named on
the extended bench like that coming back from injury. I

(53:42):
like the Dolphins as a team and I think the
Dragons are capable of beating anyone too. But I just
feel like there's more points in the Dolphin at this
stage and I'll back them to win at sun Court.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
All right, this is a very interesting game at five
point thirty on Saturday. It's down in Cronullah, a Shark's
favorite in this Sharks are heavy favorites in this game.
I'll go through the odds when you do your round up.
At the end, they're up against the Warriors. Ronaldo's out,
but Sionnikatara comes back from a shoulder recach his first
game of the year. Tig Wilton's back from a shoulder
as well. Billy Burns has been terrific for them, goes
to odenth Man.

Speaker 3 (54:14):
Never drops the cats. Billy never drops the cat.

Speaker 2 (54:17):
I think he might have dropped one in the last game.

Speaker 3 (54:18):
He doesn't.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
Jackson Ford will start at prop for Mitch Barnett Leka
Halasima into the starting team. Kate Well goes to the
centers because Rockoe Berry is out. He's a big loss.
Rocke Beerry, isn't he good? Play? Rock a Berry? Jacob
Laban and Tanner Stower's Smith of the new faces on
the bench. Sharks at home to the Warriors. High flying Warriors.

Speaker 3 (54:40):
Yeah, Warriors keep winning. They've won their last few very narrowly,
but they keep grinding out those close finishes. Shark's a
favorite Shark Park Bermuda Triangle. You just keep waiting for
them to snap into that sort of finals looking form,
don't you.

Speaker 2 (54:59):
They pretty good before the buy.

Speaker 3 (55:02):
Yeah, they were good against Melbourne, going good the Warrior,
No Mitch Barnett excellent. Ford comes in. I love this
second hour. Hello, seem Ye's a good player. Eron Clark's
a very good player. I'm going to be swayed by

(55:26):
the market here. I don't like being swayed by the market.
But Sharks at the Bermuda Triangle.

Speaker 2 (55:32):
All right, what a game. This is crunch time for Brisbane.
They take on the Titans seven point thirty on Saturday night. Wow,
this is just absolutely huge for them. They're at home
at Suncorp Stadium and i'd imagine they've still get a
big crowd despite their plight. They do get Reese Walsh
back for his first game since Round seven. So when

(55:52):
Cobe stays on the wing, Mariner drops out of the team,
Corey Jensen comes into prop, Carriyan goes back to Locke,
Kobe Heatherington to the bench. Peter Kerr has been named
to start with Willison to the bench. So for the Titans,
Aj Brimson suffered a concussion at the captain's run before
last week. He's been named as eighteenth man. But I
suppose could come in Alan Fitzgibbon recalled on the wing,

(56:15):
Sami to the centers for feeder out with a broken hand.
That's Jojo for feeder and Sam Verrels is going to
have surgery on a broken hand, so he wretched run
of injury continues in Sean Mulaney will be the hooker.
Broncos Titans. Titans are pretty good actually all been a
losing team against Melbourne.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
Well you know what I think of them. They've got
that game in them and they do trouble the Broncos
every time they played them, beating them every now and
then Reese Walsh back and the disappointment of last week
back at home, I go Bronco to turn of the round.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
If they don't respond this week, this should be what
did Jeff TV say? There's got to be an investigation,
an investigation to a clock on Sunday the raid in
the Rabbit as Josh PARPERLETTI will become the most cap
raider ever, which is a huge effort for a front rower.
Incredible three hundred and nineteen NRL games. What a servant,

(57:10):
absolute beauty. I saw Jason Craker was there at training yesterday.

Speaker 3 (57:13):
They should get him out for one game of origin.
He's just exactly what they need that first twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Maybe they'll send the sos. Wouldn't be the first time.

Speaker 3 (57:22):
I'll tell you what they can do a lot worse.

Speaker 2 (57:24):
Yeah, pardon me it. She's three hundred nineteenth game for
the Green Machine, not three hundred nineteenth NRL game for
one club. That's incredible for the Buddies. As we've already
talked about throughout the podcast, Jack Whiteen and Cody Walker
both come back. So it's a pretty strong looking South
Sydney team, but heading down to Camber to play on
a milestone afternoon.

Speaker 3 (57:44):
Yeah, and they've had a lot of hard football the
Raiders a lot of hard football. They've had a lot
of travel. The only team in the complin hasn't had
a buy yet. I think they've played every single round
they haven't had a buyers yet. Remembering too that they've
traveled to Las Vegas, they've traveled to Council, they've traveled
to Darwin, New Zealand. They've had a lot of travel.

(58:06):
They haven't had a buy and they haven't missed a beat.
I don't think they've put in a bad performance all year.
If you look at every other team in the comp
they've had, there's been one or two bad performances. Even
if they've been winning a few games. Every team sort
of has a bad day some days. Raiders just don't
have a bad.

Speaker 2 (58:21):
Day except for the second half against the Bulldogs. Yeah,
that wasn't so good, But that's the only blip on
the Raider Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:30):
But it Yeah, they've just been up for so long
and you just wonder what can they keep doing it?
Last week they won without their halfback Fogginy didn't play.
He comes back this week, they can they do it
again against what I think will be a pretty good
rabbit Oa team, Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker's back, Jamie Humphries,

(58:52):
Lama Tongue and tongue Gee. Was a good game this one.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
They get a rest next week. Can they do it
one more time before they get a buy?

Speaker 3 (58:58):
And sometimes you know team knowing they've got the buy
the following week, that mentally can be a bit of
a challenge too. You're kind of looking forward to the
buy and think what you're going to be doing and
just get through this one. There's a lot of little
challenges there.

Speaker 2 (59:10):
But he couldn't lose Popper's game.

Speaker 3 (59:12):
Could they he's going, he's got them going good. Ricky, Well,
the occasion won't get your home. I've seen that come
Acropper with teams as well. There are some times that
are really good with it, but sometimes you think the
occasion is going to get your home and it doesn't.
I'll go with Radar Raider.

Speaker 2 (59:32):
Yes, m that wasn't very committal. West Tigers versus the
Panthers Lartufe, who's coming back for his first game since
round five, or Old Skelton's also back. They've lost Alex
twil So safe after lock Toney Suker comes in to
start the game, Madman stains out. Kit Laliy joins the
bench for his first game of twenty twenty five, and

(59:54):
Charlie Murray makes he's going to well to do from
the bench, and Ivan's named the same seventeen but Isaiah
Papali former Tiger, and Luke Garner are on the extended
reserves bench and I would imagine they'll come in.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Wouldn't have that have been incredible if the Tiger's got
out of that last week? Well, they're down thirty two
to six, six twenty six points and they very nearly
did it? Didn't they?

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
If the game was much longer, they probably would have won.

Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
And that's away from home in Townsville. And what do
they have three sin bins during the game?

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Have three?

Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
I think they had three?

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
Tiger? Where's this being played?

Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
Comeback?

Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Okay, Sunday footy Panther and then I love Tiger on
a Sunday Panther.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Do you know the Panthers have won eighteen of their
last twenty one day games? For what it's worth, Bulldogs
versus Els Monday, four o'clock at a core. We know
Lockie Garvin's on the extended bench. Oh, Steve Crotton's playing. Yeah,
he's a tough because he had a bad elbow, didn't
he Well he's back.

Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
Today, he's Actually they gave the Origin players a week
off after the last Wednesday night. I think I think
Credit went. He might have gone to Fiji for a
couple of days.

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
That's a good idea.

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
But yeah, so I think he's told them his elbow
is fine. But until the doctors actually get a look
at it, then I probably won't know a.

Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Bit of Fiji in salt water, those wonders. Okay, Thursday
forty Nights two eighty five, Manly dollar forty three. Yeah,
so you Storm dollar twenty, Cowboys four.

Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
Fifty, Yeah, shouldn't be that big a difference between the two,
But I'll go.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Storm Dolphin dollar fifty three, Dragon two fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Shouldn't be that much difference between the two, but I'll
go Dolphin.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Shark's dollar forty eight, Warriors two sixty five.

Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
There's no way there should be that bigger difference in
the prices, but I'll go Shark.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
If you're a punter, just listened to what he's saying here.
Broncos are a dollar thirty two. They would and shouldn't
be a dollar thirty two against anyone at the moment.

Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
I couldn't back them with you money.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
The Titans are three forty at a dollar thirty two.
Did you back the Titans at three forty mm? That's
a no bet game.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
You could waste something on it as long as.

Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
You can afford it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
What about Gal's money gamble responsibly? You wouldn't get it
out of your wallet.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Yeah. Bronco Raiders are a dollar forty five South to
two seventy five.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
See, yeah, dollar forty five, that's short. I'll go radar.

Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
Tigers are three twenty, Panthers are a dollar thirty six.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
I don't think it should be that wide to market too,
I'll go Panther.

Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
And the Bulldogs are a dollar forty two. Paramatter are
two dollars ninety. We've covered some ground.

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
Today, Gus even money eats to that one. Yeah, it's
a big game, big big game. Enjoy, Enjoy the rest
of your week. We covered a lot of ground today,
we covered lots. Did we get in trouble?

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
You never get in trouble even when they find it.
You managed to pay the fines. That'sn't really it? Does it?
Have a good What are you calling this week?

Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Sunday? Tiger Panther?

Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Oh? So next week I'm going to be an Adelaide.

Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Okay, So I'm going to I will be well for
the swimming.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
We've got the World Championship trails on nine in primetime
all next week. So I'm going next on Sunday coming.
I'll be going for a week, but I'll do the
podcast remotely.

Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
When do we go to Perth a week after?

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
And then we're going to Perth on the Monday, Monday
the sixteenth, and we're going to go into the radio
station over there and do an origin prev and we
might even have a special guest.

Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
So are we doing a podcast next week?

Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
Yeah, next Wednesday where you'll be here. I'll be an Adelaide.
Do you want me to come to Adelaide? If you want,
bring your golf clubs and your floaties. Have a good week.
