Speaker 1 (00:29):
I have a feeling it might be one of those days.
Welcome to Sdham, John, hear you there. Thanks for hanging
out as you always do. It is the Thursday Thoughts
version of everything, and our number two is our number two.
It is the Power Hour with our buddy Nino Torres
from Gold TV and Nico Moreno from Sounder Hart and
Pulso Sports. Obviously, with Nino we got to talk about
(00:50):
what we discussed a little bit yesterday with the Coca
suit Americana, possibly with the Independent in match being out
of country neutral, all those kinds of things, and we
also have a common Ball qualifying we've got to get into,
plus all of the activity going on around the planet.
Nico will join us in the last half hour of
the show and we'll break down the truncated schedule in
(01:13):
Major League Soccer. We'll look at Leagu's Cup, look at
it through the prism of Seattle and find out what
the vibe is there. There was also the report that
came out of the Pacific Northwest where Alan Gordon basically
said the former MLS star Alan Gordon said that Lionel
Messi had basically shunned Pedro dela Vega from being a
(01:34):
part of the Argentine squad. So we'll get into that
if there's any legs to it, any truth to it,
anything like that. So that's our number two. Our number
one will catch up on things. That's the official term.
We got stuff to talk about. There's a lot of news.
There's a lot of reports. We got into the Luis
Suarez possible repercussions yesterday where Major League Soccer could go
(01:59):
and return and so there's a little bit more clarity
on that from the MLSPA perspective, like what could be
done according to rules of engagement with the MLSPA. A
great article in al dot com having to do with
Nashville SC and their relationship with Huntsole City Football Club
and how it does help out the collective. We got
(02:22):
to let you know where things are when it comes
to what to watch, where to watch it, how to
watch it. Right now. Afcon qualifying is going on right now.
It is early. It is Chad and Ghana, and there
was an early set piece and the match is goalless
right now in the in the seventh minute, so seventh
(02:43):
minute goal is Chad and Ghana. And that's the beginning
of a very very long day in qualifying. You can
catch it on the Plus, but we'll go over what
to watch, where to watch it, how to watch it
toward the end of the program or the end of
this hour as we go into our number two. We
do have to talk to because that information came out
yesterday as well, the timeline for ticketing and trying to
(03:06):
figure out, Okay, what do I want to do? Do
I want to dive in when it comes to the
Cup that is going to be decided next year from
a lot of the teams around the world, going to
those numbers, going to those timelines as well, and apparently
for the most part, you might be buying blind since
the grid isn't determined until December. If you're buying tickets
(03:31):
in September, you're kind of just sitting there and you're
hoping that your club is going to be tied to
a venue that you buy tickets in. There are team
specific packages that you can buy for FIFA, but like
I said, we'll get into that coming up in just
a little bit. We are efforting college soccer this morning
because last night in Morgantown, West Virginia, sorry Bart, there
(03:52):
was a big upset in Division one activity and West
Virginia loses at home for the first time in almost
three years. Gardner Webb gets the duke one nil. We
are efforting Scott Wells, the head coach of Gardner Webb,
and they got home and I will confirm this, I
(04:14):
will confirm the timeline. But when he texted me late
last night, it was going to be a long night
coming home from Morgantown, West Virginia. And we'll find out
just how long it was for Gardner Web to leave
Morgantown and go back to Boiling Springs, North Carolina. And
we'll discuss the big upset. Number thirteen knocks off number six,
(04:37):
first home loss in Morgantown for in three years. We'll
go over the season for Gardener Web a little bit,
and probably anybody who thought that Gardner Webb was a
surprise ain't surprised anymore. So we were efforting Scott Wells
after after a little bit and he gets his life
settled down a little bit, because literally for Scott it
(05:03):
was get home in the middle of the night and
then he had to get the kids ready for school.
And so when they are in school and they are
safe and Scott has you know, kind of calmed his
morning down. Then that's when we are going to be
trying to effort him and try to figure out what
it was, what his night was like last night for
(05:24):
Gardner Webb for the program, first top ten wins, first
went against the top ten team in club history, those
kinds of things. So that's what we're running into this morning.
And so that is the rundown as we see it.
So and also I apologize, I'm fighting Nicole, so might
be a little stuffy today and tomorrow, but like I said,
(05:46):
we're fighting it all right. So that is the rundown.
So it's upsets and news and college soccer and everything
else that's on the table. In hour number one, hour
number two touring the planet. We'll get you ready for everything,
and we'll get you ready for the weekend. In Major
League Morning Nicks, Morning David, and uh Morning Alex Jason,
(06:06):
though they have not and this is kind of what
we were getting into involving in Morning Looakville by the way,
who is on the youtubees, And it is something that
we're kind of looking at and trying to figure out, Okay,
what could be done from what we understand and what
(06:28):
we have kind of interpreted here and I guess this
is opening Kickoff brought to us buy our friends at
Kickoff Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com. We'll go ahead
and go down this road since it's a topic on
the table. There's your QR code kick off your day
with Kickoff Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com. Don't forget
to use the code soccer down here fifteen when you
check out, because you can buy out the store at
fifteen percent off, and that's what we recommend they in
(06:50):
turn take ten percent reinvested in the youth games, youth
initiatives brought to us buy our friends at Kickoff Coffee
and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com. Okay, there is precedent outside
of a tournament for Major League Soccer to sit there
and go we're going to tack on some stuff here.
It was the Mike Petke incident that happened when he
(07:10):
was believed with Red Bulls, and then the Clint Dempsey
incident where he tore up the referees book and they
added matches to that. So if Clint Dempsey was to
appear an Open Cup, he would have to serve an
Open Cup suspension and the same would be for Mike Petkey,
I believe, and I think if Mike Petkey coached in
(07:30):
I think there's still some matches that are attached to it.
But anyway, so yeah, there is a precedent that MLS
has tacked on in situations. So CBS Sports recapped and
kind of did the short version of Suarez's history racially
abusing Patrise Ever twenty eleven biting brought us Lovovanovitch in
(07:51):
twenty thirteen biting Kielini at the twenty fourteen World Cup,
so Clint Dempsey ripped up the ref's notebooks, suspended in
the tournament for six, MLS added three. Mike Petke given
a three game League's Cup suspension for acts toward the ref.
MLS added three in league last year. You remember at Houston,
(08:13):
Hector Herrera spat in the direction of a referee during
the playoffs, red carded, sent off, and that action, in part,
according to CBS in Houston, was part of the reason
that they didn't pick up the team option. According to
pat Anstadt, the GN because of the timing of the incident,
he didn't receive an additional suspension, And so now the
question is going to be for Suarez. Now, what does
(08:34):
the CBA allow incident took place in league's Cup. Looking
at the CBA, CBS Sports does this the incident would
still fall under discipline for on field misconduct, as that
covers quote, misconduct that occurs in any stadium or playing facility,
and which occurs at, during, or in connection with any
game or tournament in which the player competes. So, since
(08:55):
it was it Lumen MLS disco on committee must be
composed of five members, four appointed by the commissioner, Two
members must be former MLS players, and the committee can
hand down their suspension. If it's greater than two games,
then the PA is allowed to appeal in writing to
the Commissioner, at which point of time and place for
(09:17):
the appeal will be set. But then after that then
it's kind of kind of out there. If Suarez does
not appear in any of Miami's remaining ten matches of
the MLS regular season, it would not come as a surprise.
This is the Chuck Booth article at CBS Sports. Heron's
don't play again until September thirteen. Time to work it out.
(09:38):
League may need all that time that they can to
work through all the ramifications of a potential suspension, So
that's where we are falls under MLS DISCO since it
was at Lumenfield, and now the question is, all right,
do we tack it on? And like I said, we
mentioned the pet Key incident, we mentioned the Dempsey incident,
so there is precedent to add matches on. But now
(10:02):
it is up to the League's Cup Disciplinary committee to
come up with any kind of a solution and then
and the League's Cup obviously that would be You would
wonder if, and there has been there has been just
stuff floating in the ether that this may in fact
(10:24):
be Louis Suarez's last year competitively in Major League Soccer.
He and the rest of the big four contracts end
all this year. Alba Messi busquets that, and that they're
they're done this season. They're done this year, so and Suarez,
(10:46):
So all four of them done at the end of
this season. There has been talk that this is it
for Luis Suarez, and like I said, it has been
back burner stuff. It's just been conjecture. There is nothing
concrete to it at all. But if he is suspended
in League's Cup, then it's like the Clint Dempsey thing
where if he ends up, you know, being suspended by
(11:06):
League's Cup. It's more kind of like an oh, by
the way, and if you ever come back, you know,
don't you ever come back here? And if you do,
then you know you have to you have to, you know,
settle up your bill. So that would be the League's
Cup element in this Would it be another three because
three seems to be the magic number according to Major
(11:27):
League Soccer it's one more than what would be approved
without any kind of appeal from the MLSPA. That would
be two is three enough? That would be conventional wisdom.
That would be probably number one, two and three talking
point is an additional three inside Major League Soccer? Is
that enough? But what you also do if it's three
(11:50):
or however many leading into the playoffs, you're given so
far as arrest. Frankly, with the the stuff that we
were talking about with Louis Suarez and his and his knees,
and we were wondering how they would hold up. What
you're doing basically is, in a way, in a backhanded way,
you're helping Messi and friends by sitting Suarez so he
(12:11):
can be healthy for the playoff. So that's the question
MLSPA can do more, they can pile on top. If
it's more than two, it goes to appeal. So that's
that's kind of where we are. And I know that
there's a lot of folks and David's asking what have
(12:31):
people gotten for postgame headlocks before? One? More than a red?
So two? Yeah, And like I said, you know in David,
to your point, it is something that you go right
up to the edge with the MLSPA. You sit there
and it's like two, Okay, we don't have to appeal it.
You don't have to go into the process. Because if
MLS decides to drop the hammer on top of the
(12:54):
league's Cup disco, and you figure the league's Cup disciplinary Committee,
they're going to put up a big number. If MLS
decides that they want to put up a big number,
you know it's going to immediately going to appeal. And
then if I remember engagement in the rules of them,
(13:18):
then you're free to play, man. I mean, that would
be the way that I would look at this is
if MLS wants to drop the hammer, it's immediately appealed
under appeal, Then that to me means that Luis Suarez
is active from Messian friends, So I would I would
(13:39):
anticipate that if it's more than three, then it's going
to go to appeal. Then it's going to go to
the written part, and then they're going to have their
essays and then they're going to compare notes and then
they'll figure out what the what the decision is going
to be if it's more than two. If it goes
to more than two, then it's going to go to
long glass, rectangular table, glass and cased conference room and
(14:03):
you're gonna trade notes across the table with folders. That's
the rub here, so that that's what that's what you're
looking at. You figure League's Cup Disciplinary Committee, they're gonna
put up a number. But then if MLS wants to
come in from behind, then that's what you've got to
look at. You gotta you gotta keep an eye on
that and figure out, Okay, what's it going to look like.
(14:23):
Do we if we were Major League Soccer, do we
sit there and try to max it out and go, okay,
we're gonna go five regular season whatever? But then it
immediately goes to appeal and then you trade your folders
and you sit there and say, well, what if I
put up what if what if I put up a
number here? You know, what if I write down a
(14:44):
number on a piece of paper and slide it across
the table, That's what you get into at that point.
So is it worth putting up a large number and
going through the appeals process where Luis Suarez would be
playing from SI and Friends? If if I'm interpreting appeals
processes correctly, while it's under appeal, nothing's decided. So unless uh,
(15:12):
MESSI and Friends was going to sit there and say no,
we're gonna sit you know, we're gonna sit him, and
then you know, time served or whatever attached to it all,
then that's what you're staring at. So uh, that is that?
Like I said, that's the rub in all of this.
If MLS comes in from behind, how hard do they hit?
It goes to appeal and then the discussion continues and
(15:36):
then how hard is it is it whittled down? And
then what does it look like? So that's that's where
we are. MLS can and then we'll go So let's
uh and obviously there are folks in the timeline. Rich
is like he's not gonna get anything. He gets absolutely nothing.
I think it's nothing Let's be real, Uh, David is
trying to David is tacking on numbers, so you gotta
(15:59):
hand and full of matches left in the regular season.
Nix was adding numbers. Nix is like throw the book
at him, you know, no more this season, so we'll
see what happens. But yeah, that's the rub in all
of this. Does emls come in from behind and how
heavy do they hit considering what we've seen with pet
Key and with Clint Dempse in the past. That's opening
(16:25):
Kickoff brought to just buy our friends at Kickoff Coffee
and Kickoff Coffeeco dot com. There's your QR code once again.
You hit that QR code, you go in to kickof
Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco dot com and you start your
day with Kickoff Coffee. You buy out the store. That's
what we recommend anyway. Then when you go in and
buy out the store, you can do it at fifteen
percent off by using the code soccer down here fifteen
(16:46):
at checkout, and then they, in turn our folks at
Kickoff Coffee in turn take ten percent reinvested in youth
games youth initiatives brought to us Buy our friends at
Kickoff coffee and kickoff Coffeeco dot com. All right, the
other promos while I'm thinking about it, don't forget to

There you go, be there, Oh Rich is being a producer.
Hang on a second, all right, So Rich with our
(21:07):
notes from sky darn Eels formally stepping down is Newcastle
CEO on the fifth of September, following the appointment of
David Hopkinson. And obviously, you know, we send our love
to Darren and his family with everything that Darren is
currently battling. But right now fifth of September, so that's
(21:29):
like tomorrow tomorrow, Darren Eiel's formally stepping down his Newcastle
CEO following the appointment of David Hopkinson. David Hopkinson was
interviewed and what he wants to do is he wants
to make a point that Newcastle be a player on
(21:50):
the world stage and so that was part of the interview.
Hang on to your second Let me Sae if I can
find it. I think it was in The Athletic, but
thank you Rich. Obviously Darren stepping down as CEO and
he demands urgency. Can Newcastle's new CEO, David Hopkinson take
the club global? It's an article by Chris waugh Over
(22:13):
at The Athletic, quotes from Brian Cooper and Brian Cooper
at MKTG. What Newcastle need a massive numbers commercially. Dave
has no compunction about asking for those and he'll have
data to justify it. He usually gets them to new
chief exec more than eleven months after Darren Neils announced
to be leaving the club having been diagnosed with chronic
(22:34):
blood cancer. Now the successor is in place. Cooper worked
alongside Hopkinson, so opposite him at the negotiating table brokering
the naming rights deal for Maple League where the Air
Canada Center, I call it the Post Office because that's
what it was before it was converted. But twenty seventeen
(22:54):
they broke the twenty year naming rights deal for the
home arena for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Cooper representing Scotia Bank.
Hopkinson was Chief Commercial Officer for MLSE worth eight hundred
million Canadian at present, a tenfold increase on the previous
Air Canada partnership deal represented the highest value annual stadium
and team sponsorship in North American sports history. So, for
(23:16):
those of you that have the athletic, here is your
interview with the new CEO. And I think Abby it
might be short of things that the club might want
him to do just to be as a part of
the community. So Abby's asking is that dropping all responsibilities
(23:41):
at Newcastle might be dropping all of his front office
responsibilities because obviously you're focusing on your health. I don't know.
Nothing has been laid out as to what Darren's future
is except that Hopkinson is going to be taking over
for the taking over in the position, and so the
(24:04):
athletic is the Athletic had a caption in the article,
is that what they've been without a chief executive since
Eels stepped away, And so that's that's what you're looking at.
So Hopkinson comes in takes over for darn Neils and
(24:24):
that is the run that Newcastle now has is with
Hopkinson as their new man in the front office, how
do you make yourself global? And that's what that's what
Hopkinson is going to be doing. Infrastructure wise. According to
the article by Wall, Hopkinson does not have the experience
of overseeing huge projects in the way that Eels did
(24:46):
at Atlanta United. He was at MSG when it was
building the sphere, but did not lead on that, And
at Newcastle he's arrived ahead of a generational stadium decision,
whichever call is eventually maybe will be contentious. Hopkinson's joined
midway through the discussions and that's obviously far from ideal.
Ensuring the process driven approach of the PIF can be
(25:06):
sped up you got, Hopkinson has to address that due
diligence must remain. There have been suggestions that a meticulous
approach excuses indecision. Longtime associate says that Hopkinson demands urgency,
but he does so in a way that makes you
want to run through walls for him. So had multiple
job offers after he left MSG, waited for an opening
(25:27):
that excited him. Proved to be Newcastle. His eldest daughter's
going to be joining him in the UK, though her
younger sister will stay to finish high school in Toronto.
Hopkinson's fiance say we'll move over soon, alongside their three
year old CHEWENI. So he has a CHEWEENI, a fiance
and two daughters from a previous marriage. Ambition is will
(25:51):
be we need to be number one, but we're going
to get there the right way. For a challenger club
like Newcastle, he's the perfect choice. So that is the
early one one on David Hopkinson, the new CEO for Newcastle.
As Sky announces this morning, Darren Neils is formally stepping
down tomorrow following the appointment of Hopkinson. Oh I'm sure, yeah, Abby.
(26:14):
Abby's wondering if you can send client, you know good,
you know client good and good get well soon cards
and things like that. I would imagine that, Yeah, you
could absolutely send those kinds of things to Saint James's
Park or to the front office and they would get
to Darren. I would I would wholeheartedly think that that
would be something that's a part of the whole you know,
(26:34):
if you if Darren still gets mail, I'm sure that
Darren would still get mail there. So absolutely, you know,
send a send a big send a big banner over
there to either the Saint James's or the corporate offices.
I'm sure that it would find a way to Darren. Absolutely.
So that is uh So, that's the update on Darren
and his time at Newcastle, formerly stepping away as CEO.
(26:57):
Obviously he had stepped back to take care of his
health issues. Now he's formally stepping away with David Hopkinson
being introduced as the new CEO in Newcastle. Okay, uh,
let me go ahead and do this. Let me go
ahead and do what to watch, where to watch it,
how to watch it, because there's a lot and like
I said, we are already in the throes of AFCAN
(27:21):
qualifying and this is the thing that bugs me among
other things. All right, so gone is up. One nill
set piece available and they're letting it go. Chad had
a set piece from about thirty five and it went
well over everybody. When you're watching certain streaming services and
you back away and you like minimize the window, it
(27:44):
freezes that moment in time and then you have to
like fast forward all the way to the point that
that the rest of the world is at. It doesn't
continue rolling for you. I'd like for it just to
continue to roll, but it doesn't. So Ghanalid Chad in
Brown seven in Group I by the score of one nil.
Once again, they're in the thirty second minute in Jordan,
(28:06):
I you with a goal at seventeen. So we'll get
into college soccer in a bit. There's a lot. CBS
Sports Network's got World Cup qualifying and it's Conca calf
It is five thirty and ten o'clock surname in Panama,
Guatemala and l Salvador is it ten FS two goes
to Europe and they've got a triple header starting in
twenty five minutes. Kazakhstan, Wales, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Spain
(28:29):
is at two forty five. Fox deport this surname in
Panama is at seven to thirty. Universo has World Cup
qualifying double header Argentina Venezuela, so you get a chance
to see Thiague, Almada and Ronald Hernandez at seven thirty
on Universo and Brazil and Chile is at nine to
thirty ESPN. The Plus has a lot has early rounds
(28:52):
of AFCHAN, the chad Gana match going on right now,
three going on at noon, Guinea, Basasci early on Madagascar, CEFNN,
Gola and Libya that's at noon. Also at noon you
have a Sutoma and Principay and Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius and
Cabo Verd for the Sikos three o'clock. It continues in
AFCON Cameroon and Eswatini, Algeria, Botswana, Mali, Comoros and Tunisia
(29:15):
and Liberia. Those are your four matches at three o'clock.
Fox Soccer Plus Slovakia Germany at two forty five. Fubo
Sports Network has European Qualifying Lithuania Malta at noon and
Liechtenstein in Belgium at two forty five. Two matches and
MLS next pro Tonite. One of them is of a
massive importance to Atlanta Nited two it is Crown Legacy
(29:35):
in Carolina Corp. Their next two opponents playing each other
tonight seven o'clock and to come a to Fiance white
Caps two. That's at ten paramount plus simulcasting Sirina and Panama, Guatemala,
l Salvador. Pay per view info is available at Integrated
Sports Net. On the World Cup qualifying and Conbobal it
is Columbia, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Uruguay and Peru. Like I said,
(29:58):
we'll go over all of the stuff with Nino coming
up at the top of the hour. Peacock is simulcasting Argentina,
Venezuela and Brazil and Chile. So that is the the
national stuff. That's your international windows college soccer. There's a
lot four o'clock, six o'clock, seven o'clock, seven point thirty,
(30:21):
ten o'clock. On the men's side, three six, nine, twelve,
fourteen matches, five of them, six of them out West
involving Big West Pac twelve whack uh. I think that's
that's pretty much it for that, and then you have
(30:42):
Florida Schools, America East SoCon that's on the men's side,
fourteen matches starting at four o'clock, a lot at seven,
and then at ten women's soccer. The metric crapload and
I'm not kidding, there's got to be like one hundred
matchups here, and so if you know your favorite team,
follow along and find them because they're probably playing today.
(31:04):
You've got Georgia, Southern and North Florida on the women's
side at five, you have PAC twelve, You've got B
one G, You've got ACC Colonial, you have the Whack,
you have the IVY League. East Tennessee State and West
Georgia is at six on the Plus. You have ACC
taking on Colonial, you have B one G. Wyoming in
(31:26):
Georgia is at six thirty ken I Saw State and
Mercer is at seven on the women's side on ESPN plus.
That's definitely one for our footprint to watch Tonight. You've
got ACC SEC. Remember Casey White's gonna be calling Alabama
North Carolina on ACC extra tonight at seven, you've got
Princeton Miami Navy VCU. I'm trying to see if there's
(31:49):
any other collegist Stetson in FSU is Tonight. You've got
stuff in the Midwest. You've got Ivy League, You've got
Big East, you have Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech. It is OVC tonight.
It is Conference USA tonight, and that's at eight o'clock.
Texas and Baylor is at eight. Acc Extra has got
(32:11):
their handful Oklahoma. Texas State is at eight thirty, cal
State Northridge, Portland State is at nine. Dartmouth is out
west ticking on USF ten o'clock. You have seven matchups
that include the Whack, the Big West and what's left
of the B one G and Fresno State and Bakersfield.
So you have like nine gazillion women's matchups tonight and
(32:34):
they are all They're all over the place. So yes,
if you want to watch women's soccer tonight tonight all
over the plus and yes, Rich is mentioning the beginning
of the the beginning of the Shields season, and it's
and Rich and I know that Rich, A lot of
folks here in Atlanta are very happy that you were
(32:56):
saying Gobert beat two three. So there it is, uh
and raise the banner tonight. So that's that's what's going
on with the beginning of the shield season and the
professional f double O T B A L L season tonight.
That's a Thursday night Thursday night football and that's going
(33:16):
to be kicking off tonight, and so, uh, get your
fantasy teams all squared away, if you don't have your draft,
find your waiver wires, get your roster stacked, and get
ready to go. So that's your that's your public service
announcement for that tonight. So that's uh, that's a lot
of the stuff that's going on. Didn't know if you
saw this, And it's an article that popped up in
(33:36):
al dot com and it's about the relationship that Huntsville
City Football Club has with their parent club, Nashville SC.
And Thomas Ashworth at AL dot com, Mike Jacobs was
interviewed President of Soccer ops for Nashville and he was
asked about the relationship that Nashville has well Huntsville, quoting Jacobs,
(34:02):
the idea of generating revenue with ticket sales and partnerships.
It's unique, probably compared to almost any other MLS two team.
In Kansas City, we started a second team, Solt Park Rangers.
They're now Sporting Kansas City too. They were lucky if
they had four hundred fans coming to games. Huntsill plays
regularly in front of four thousand plus. That benefits all
MLS two teams. And then obviously you've got the exhibition
(34:24):
match coming up, and that was last night at seven
o'clock and you had, if for those of you that
follow Hunt City on social media, they had trialists playing
last night, and one of the trialists scored for Hunt
City and so obviously they had to sit there and
say gold trialists. I couldn't mention the individual by name,
(34:45):
but it was it was rather humorous that Hunt City
had a trial to score for them, and that was
how it was identified last night and friendly. So twenty
twenty four average attendance was over forty three hundred. Jacobs said,
visiting teams when they come in get a more meant
ingul game that more closely resembles an MLS match, albeit
with a different set of circumstances. It helps the whole
(35:06):
league what we're doing with Huntsville City FC. But now
to take this step, this next step of them being
more competitive on the field. When you do plan in
a separate market, it's probably more of a premium on
trying to win because you're trying to sell to a
fan base, maybe more so to a secondary team in
the same market. Chris O'Neil, the head coach, said, it's
fantastic to play alongside the crowd that the club consistently
(35:28):
brings out, Quoting O'Neill, it's something that we've actually even
started to try and encourage and get the players to
do a little bit more of, which is that player
fan interaction. Because once they kind of get behind them
and they say there's a foul or whatnot, and there's
a little bit of celebration in this, and now the
crowd gets behind you, it finds ways to give you
just a little bit more than what you thought you
might have had. I think that's such an important part,
(35:51):
even scoring goals as well, celebrating whether and that's just
not celebrating by yourselves and going there you can find
ways to gain that one percent. When we're talking about
this in terms of these players being able to move
into that next level of terms of MLS, one percent
is a big difference. Expectations were different. Huntsvills adapted one
of the few MLS Next pro teams in a completely
(36:12):
different market than its parent club. Obviously, it's a two
hour drive separating the two. Jacobs said, while the team
had to make more of a direct effort in allocating
resources and transportation to get a good look at developing
players in Huntsville, communication collaboration between both in year threes
helped make it easier on everybody. There are very few games,
Once again quoting Jacobs, the Huntsvill City plays that if
(36:34):
either I'm not at myself personally, I'm watching live on TV.
The rare exception is maybe when both the first and
second team are playing at the same time. It's really
encouraging to see the connectivity that we have among all
three all three properties, first Team, Huntsville and Academy, and
then the other way. Also for those are at the games.
Not uncommon to see myself or members of our executive team,
but to see guys like BJ there watching the games
(36:55):
as coaching staff. There's definitely more connectivity right now than
they've ever had between the two properties. And you'll remember
ancdotally when we were up there calling the matchups with
Atlanta Unity two and the next booth over was BJ Callahan.
Literally BJ Callahan keeping an eye on everything going on
the Huntsville City Football Club, taking that two hour drive
(37:18):
from Nashville down to keep an eye on what's going
on with the MLS. Next protein third in the Eastern Conference,
sixth overall, looking for the close of the season. Every
team we play, they're also excited to play. You get
a true look at where your team's actually at getting
the best effort from the opposition. You can look at
it as we have home field advantage, but we have
to find a way to do a little bit more
(37:39):
and use that. Protecting it is something that other players
take great pride in. So Huntsville City Football Club, they
are doing really well and it is really cool to
see how it has continued to evolve. And you're seeing
(38:00):
what Huntsville City is doing there in that in that building.
So it's very very cool to see how it is
evolving to get it to that point to where you
are getting four thousand people in a building and you
have four thousand people in a barn. You're sitting there
(38:21):
and it's like, okay, cool, that's great, and you're chasing
after championships. You know, right now, once again you're third
in the Eastern Conference. Last time out, when you came
to the fraction, you took it on the chin and
a big game that you wanted to try and climb
the standings in. But once again, right now you are
(38:41):
third identical record to Chicago Fire two. You were two
ahead in goal difference plus nineteen to plus seventeen six
two and three at home with the Wicks Family Field
and Jo Davis Stadium, And so that's what you're staring at.
Huntsvill City has taken an idea as an attached club
(39:02):
in MLS Next Pro and from there, what they have
done is they've added to it. They've created their own environment.
They've renovated the stadium, which looks fantastic, and they're adding
hotel space and all these things in that live, work,
play environment that we talk about a lot in the
lower divisions to make properties more viable over a full
(39:26):
three hundred and sixty five days in the calendar. And
they're hitting a lot of the right notes right now.
They're bringing in players. They're bringing in I mean, Alan
Carlton is a part of that now as an older
player that is not a part of the Nashville se system.
And you're seeing this, You're seeing this group in Hunt
(39:48):
City do really well. Christian Kofi ten goals, Alan Carlton
ten goals eleven assists between the two of them. Then
you get into all of the players that are there
as a part of the system. Out of Sippitch is
is a part of it, you know. Then you end
up with guys like Blake Bowen, Pepcassas and the build
(40:09):
that continues from there. You know, you end up with
Eric Lauta in net. Chris apple White is a part
of it as a prospect. Then you have you know,
magnus Ak who's there, King Kuli Kessi Kolabali who is
there as well, and so you know Tyshawn Rose. So
you're seeing all of these players doing well with Hunt
(40:31):
City and MLS Next Pro and they're doing a really
good job of developing this idea over the last couple
of seasons. That's always fun for us to go up
and call matches for Atlanta ninety two. You have the
instant rivalry that's attached to that. So all of these
you have the Hunt City, You've got Chattanooga, you have
you know at Lanting ninety two, that's a part of it.
(40:51):
You have what's going on with the Purple Team and
oc B. You've got Messi and Friends too. So all
of these rivalries are here in the southeast, but the
choice was made to have hunts Will be the market
to kind of break away a little bit and give
a market that has a great appreciation for the sport
of soccer the opportunity to to blossom on its own.
(41:14):
And you're seeing that right now. So that was the
article in UH. That that was the article in the
UH and then and in ail dot com. So ail
dot com had the article this morning about UH the
growth of Huntsville City Football Club and what it's been
like for them to try and UH to work their
(41:35):
way forward. So all right, hang on you a second.
All right, still efforting Scott Wells from Gardner Webb, because
like I said, I mean Scott legitimately, it wouldn't surprise
me one bit if Scott, you know, just kind of
collapsed on the sofa. So he said, and this is
and this is me talking to him last night after
(41:57):
the wind trying to book him on the show this morning.
He says, et a home is about six and then
take the kids to school. So this so you go
on the road to Morgantown, West Virginia, you get a
win last night, and you come home obviously from Morgantown
(42:17):
to that section of North Carolina, and that is not
that is not a ride where you can just kind
of sit there and go. You know. It's uh, it's
an easy drive. But you get a win and you're
leaving probably eleven thirty midnight. Then you're going from Morgantown
(42:40):
and you're heading back to Boiling Springs. He says, Eta
home is about six So uh, it would not surprise
me that once Scott got the kids off to school,
that he fell down on a sofa and collapsed. That
that would be my yes as to what happens. And obviously,
(43:02):
if Scott doesn't join us in the next twelve minutes,
we'll book him and we'll try to see if we
can see if we can grab him tomorrow when he
might be more awake. But it was a big win
for Gardner Webb last night. Number thirteen in the country
knocks off number six. First loss on about three years
in Morgantown for West Virginia was a one goal and
(43:24):
that's all you need. One goal and a stingy defense.
Thiciago Compost scored in the fourteenth minute and they hung
on from there. Roster has a lot of different classifications
that are attached to it. You've got a lot of
different folks that are contributing right now for this team.
They've won their first four and they are four to
(43:47):
zero on the season. West Virginia with the loss two
to one. One. Compost had the one goal, Samson Caparta
had the assist. Robbie Lyons gets an assist there as well.
And we mentioned how everything is, you know, coming at
you from a bunch of different classifications, Coparta as a sophomore,
Lions as a grad student. And then you had a
(44:08):
stingy another stingy night with Alan Harks between the sticks,
the senior keeper, and so that's how you end up
with the big upset with a Gardner Webb knocking off
West Virginia. So that was how that was how that
happened last night. So, like I said, we are efforting
Scott Wells, the head coach at Gardner Webb, but if
(44:31):
he's asleep, we get it coming up in about ten minutes.
It's our buddy Nino Torres, where we tore the planet,
find out what's going on in his mind when it
comes to transfers, the copas, all the things there and
our buddying. Niko Moreno is going to be joining us
in about the last half hour of the show, and
we'll break down everything that is attached to Major League Soccer,
(44:53):
to the League's Cup, Seattle and all the points in between.
We do have a handful of matches remember this week
in Major League Soccer, because you opt not to take
the international break and you have DC United has a friendly,
and then there are four matches that actually count this
week in Major League Soccer. So we've got that this week,
(45:16):
folks might be catching up on makeup games and things
like that. We mentioned the World Cup qualifiers. The ticket
info is out. The ticket info is out, and so
here's what you need to know. Pre sale phases starting
in a week tenth through the nineteenth. You can enter
a visa pre sale draw. But here's the deal. You
(45:44):
got to have a visa card to participate. FIFA then
randomly selects an undisclosed number of entrants. You get a
date in a time slot in October to purchase. Then
you get a similarly early ticket draw will follow after that.
If you don't have a visa card, then December fifth
(46:07):
is the draw. If you miss the lotteries, you get
the first come, first served of the last minute sales phase,
which probably is going to be for most of us. Then,
of course the secondary market hospitality packages already on sale.
They're like that, they are thousands of bucks apiece. FIFA
typically allocates tickets to participating nations and their feds. The
(46:30):
FEDS will then sell, FIFA said Wednesday, additional products, including
supporter tickets and conditional supporter tickets expected to be available
closer to the tournament. And then everybody here knows about volunteering.
So eleven am when the show is over September ten,
and you can enter between any time between now and
the nineteenth. Then you get a FIFA ID and you
(46:53):
get a visa card to put you in that first phase.
FIFA officials say you can buy up to four a
piece for up to ten matches, so you can buy
forty tickets, tops man. This is the fun. This was
the part that we kind of anticipated with what we
saw with the Club World Cup. Welcome to dynamic pricing.
Cheapest tickets to group games starting at sixty bucks. Obviously
(47:16):
most tickets more expensive. Dynamic pricing or variable pricing. Variable
pricing sounds a lot softer. It's variable pricing, not dynamic pricing,
but variable pricing. We will adapt prices as per the
demand we see, as per the remaining inventory. So yeah, Argentina,
(47:38):
you figure that's going to jump through the roof highest
price for the World Cup final starting at sixty seven
hundred and thirty bucks, more than four times the price
of a CAT one ticket to the twenty twenty two final,
which costs sixteen to oh five. Qatar World Cup most
expensive to date Cat ones or about two twenty Cat
(47:59):
two's on sixty five cheapest available to international fans roughly
sixty nine bucks. That was Qatar. And so that's you know,
when we talk about categories, you know, we talk about
one hundred, two hundred, three hundred Cat one's the one
hundreds or might be the two hundreds if it's even
(48:19):
with the sidelines, CAT two, Cat three of the corners
adjusted categorizations. And so you're looking at like h corners
behind a goal supporter section, and they're gonna go with
American preferences. Fans value the front row seat much higher.
We'll actually they don't. Maybe in the second deck maybe,
but not like for real sideline versus inline delineation is
(48:45):
going to be lower level, second deck and upper decks,
so lower levels of one hundred, second decks of two hundreds,
upper deck is three hundred and four hundred. And they're
gonna be releasing obviously, they're going to be releasing the
uh uh, the schematics as we go resale market stub Hub,
sat Geek, Tickpick, Vivid and others, tbds. They don't require
(49:12):
sellers to upload the digital tickets. Nothing prevents a fan
or a speculator from selling tickets that they don't have.
That's the fun part there. Uh. Visas for international fans,
you'll get more info obviously September ten. But yeah, if
you go in and you're buying for a particular venue,
(49:36):
then you are hoping basically that you are booking a
ticket that you're going to be wanting to see a
lot of stadiums, a lot of fixtures draws December fifth.
You're buying tickets in September, you are hoping, you are hoping,
(49:59):
you are hoping, you are hoping that when you buy
a ticket for a venue, that you are buying the
ticket for the right blanket place. So that's the that's
the larger point with all of this. You've got to
make sure. You've got to make sure that you are
(50:29):
projecting well enough that you think a particular club will
be in a particular venue at a particular time, unless
you're looking at the the Siko approach and you're just like,
you know what, I'm buying tickets for here, and I
don't care buying tickets for this venue, and what it
(50:50):
is is what it is. Frankly, for me, I would
probably be focused on the Minnos and the Atlanta dates.
That's what our That's what I think that my particular
angle of the coverage is going to be when it
comes to Atlanta and to Dallas. But I'm looking at Minno's,
I'm looking at first timers, I'm looking at cool stories.
(51:11):
So probably if it was me, I would end up
getting a lot of tickets to the sixty Bucks just
because I want to see the first timers. Everybody else
wants to see the big names. Give me the first timers.
What does it mean to them? What does it mean
to them in this story? So that's the that would
be the hook for me in all of this. So
(51:34):
how to buy the World Cup tickets? First thing in line,
set up your fIF id and get a visa card.
Remember yesterday we were talking about the Alexander Sefron interview
that he did with Politico. UEFA is not keen on
(51:55):
the Club World Cup. Seffron voiced his opposition to the
idea that the tournament might be staged every two rather
than every four. He's not a fan. Players are already
dead at the end of each season because of the
pack calendar. They organize a Club world Cup every four
years for our organization. For me personally, it's perfectly fine,
(52:17):
but that's it. Ask for his view on staging it
every two he said, quote, I wouldn't agree with that,
but I don't think they want to end quote. When
pushed on the idea that FIFA has increased interest in
the club game is a potential threat to yuefa's lucrative competition,
Sefron said club football is not only YUEFA territory, pointing
(52:38):
out FIFA has been staging a smaller Club World Cup
since two thousand and five, the Intercontinental. Then he explained
why he believes there's no room for the expanded Club
World Cup every other year for now. The most problematic
thing about it players are dead after the season then
have to go and play in this five week tournament,
which is too much. FIFA would have to speak also
with the clubs who supported the idea. So that's the
thing that this is tiring because they have the men's competition,
(53:01):
Club World Cup next year, they have World Cup one year,
nothing in euro and Copa America and everything, so it's tiring.
Now with Afcon being in January, it's a never ending story.
So it's tough. But we let's see what happens in
the future. So he kind of stepped, he stepped into
the pool and then he took his foot out. I'm
not a fan, but we'll see what happens. We'll see
(53:24):
what happens. Champions League squad up dates. Yesterday Max Dowmon
made Arsenals list, Rio made Liverpool's list, Kisa did not
Mantis tell who was a thirty million pound pickup for Spurs.
Thomas Frank's like nope, So Dowmon in Rio in, Kisa
(53:49):
out tell out. Bundesliga is not a fan of staging
league matches abroad. Excuse me. Hanjo Kimvotska, who chairs the
advisory board, and he's like, nope, not happening. We're not
doing it. LaLiga Siria they want to. Votska ruled it
(54:14):
out re elected to his position. Wednesday made his comments
with LaLiga hopeful of staging their fixture between VRL and
Barsad hard Rock Siria planning on staging Milan and Como
in Perth. Votska said, as long as I'm here in
the league responsible, there will be no match abroad when
it comes to competitive matches full stop. Cefron once again,
(54:38):
in the interview with Politico, said then games abroad not
a matter that they could prevent. FIFA was warned it
will set a dangerous precedent if it sanctions domestic league
matches being played abroad by Fanbrook by fan Group Football
supporters Europe. So Cefron understands it, he gets it. It's
(55:00):
up to the leagues themselves to figure out what they
want to do. But in the grand scheme of things,
it's like, nope, not happening, and the head of and
the head of the DFL, the head of the German
league is like, we are not doing anything abroad. It's
not happening. No, no, no, no no. So at least
(55:24):
we know one league that's not going to be doing
stuff in this country. Going forward. If you're in the
if you're in the if you're in the DFL, it
ain't happening. Okay. It is the beginning of our number two,
and we know what that means. On a Thursday, we
head down south past New Orleans and we go and
(55:46):
check in with everybody, Needa Torres and find out what's
going on in his brain. I know, we got some
things that I said. There's one thing that we need
to talk about that I know. He sends me a list.
I don't look at this list. We roll through it
as we always do. It is a wide open experience
as we go, fully loaded here on a Thursday, starting
our number two, and we welcome in Nino Torres, Yello
(56:09):
yellow yellow, Yello, Yello.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Yellow, soaking down here, fans here, Nie Notorious. We're an addition.
Speaker 3 (56:17):
Only today it seems like the winter's going away, finally, finally, hopefully.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
I don't know, maybe she's just today. I'm just messing
with you guys.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
Happy to be here, Johnny, Uh huh, you know, fired up?
I know you you're you're all fired up as you
should be.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
It's a miracle, neighbor.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
We talked about it yesterday, and it's kind of like
a lead in for for you here today. There is
there is talk and this was from our friends at
a take Football letter and an on their account yesterday
we were and like I said, there there is no
evidence that is leading to a decision one way or
(56:59):
the other. This is just stuff that they put out
there in the ether, and it has to do with
the match that was just awful a couple of weeks ago,
with everything that was happening in the stands with Independent,
and they now say that there is an idea about
(57:20):
completing the match and it would be in a neutral
location and it would be like nowhere close to where
these individuals played the match in the first place. So
they're thinking possibly that the match would be removed with
(57:42):
Independent and Universa Dada Chile completed on a neutral ground
in another country behind closed doors. And that comes from
ESPN Argentina to take fut balleto put back out there.
Have you heard anything about this match in Sudamericana and
getting it picked up finished, lay and low? What's the deal?
Have you heard anything about this?
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (58:06):
I the the the heroes were yesterday three pm Easter time.
They went from the three pm to six forty five
give to take and uh Independente and University Chile. They
both sent their cases. You know their their evidences in
these there are they are positively there are four possible
(58:27):
scenarios here, right. Number one is the one that you
just mentioned that they could be playing the remaining forty
three minutes closed doors.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
In a neutral location. That's number one.
Speaker 3 (58:39):
Number two it's the Independentite gets banned and said Chile advances.
Number three is University Chile advances to the next round
and Openinity gets eliminated.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
And number four is that they both can get eliminated.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Both teams get could get eliminated and Almail go through
the to the next round of the Copasminican, there's a
tendency in Comebole to.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Leave the things on the pitch.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
What what I mean by that is like they know
that there's for three minutes remaining on the clock on
this match, and they want the things to be decided
on the pitch. Okay, So that's why the number one
scenario is most likely scenario. Because I mean, comic bal
(59:34):
you got the muscle, brother, all right, you got the most.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
Argentina is a heavyweight that Chile is a waterway.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
Okay, so they're not gonna give the decision to the
water contender here. Okay, I'm telling you that right now,
things how things go in Comebo. And now, of course
I got a closer relationship with the dominees than the
representative from Chile.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
So I'm giving you.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
The all the uh, the factors that could influence the
decision in uh in common bold. But they're saying this,
this is the what they saying that the decision could
be made tonight, tonight during the games, you know, because
we have all the games going at the same time,
(01:00:22):
you know, have five games. The only play the only
team that is playing later. It's uh, it's Chile versus
Brazil in Brazil. It's what I said. Eight thirty pm
is the time everyone else plays at the same time,
an hour earlier. So they're gonna drop the bomb in
the middle of these chaos of games that's happening. They're
happening at the same time, so you know they can
(01:00:43):
the impact would be you know, yeah, the impact is
gonna be lower because everybody's.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
Gonna be busy. Hey there's a game here. I give
the bro the five.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
Games simultaneous simultaneously playing and uh yeah, they're gonna drop
the bomb around I want to say seven pm.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Ish, So we'll keep an eye seven o'clock and we'll
find out if the If they do the news dump,
then just sit there and they just lay it out there.
It's like, hey, hey, look at all these games here.
Oh by the way, slip right now. Argentina minus four
hundred taking on Venezuela well plus plus twelve hundred, Columbia
(01:01:19):
minus nine o nine hosting Bolivia at a plus two
thousand and seven, Hadaguay is a plus one thirty eight,
hosting Ecuador at a plus two seventy Utuguay a minus
two thirty eight hosting Peru at a plus seven eighty eight,
Rasila minus five hundred hosting Chile at a plus thirteen
seventy nine. Uh huh. And right now, here's here's the grid.
(01:01:43):
Argentina ten points cleared, two matches to go, and it
is Ecuador at twenty five even with the points deduction
from the federation. Brazil is at twenty five. They are
three goals behind in goal difference plus eight to plus five.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Fixed that tonight th that with five dollars in Chile.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Uruguay is it twenty four points and a plus seven.
Pedaguay is a twenty four points and plus three, So
Paraguay's got some work to do, same number of points
as Uruguay, so just keep your head down. Colombia is
a twenty two points. They are in six, so they're
in the last automatic qualifier. Then you've got Venezuela and
(01:02:23):
Bolivia chasing after the play in spot at eighteen points
and seventeen points. Peru is at twelve points at two
six and eight.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
We're chasing too, brother, What is this? Why do you say?
Why are you messon Peru chasing too? What is this?
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
Respect scores some goals? Brother? You got six and goals
scored in sixteen matches. That's insane to me.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Yeah, it is the lowest, is the lowest of the
lowest World Cup qualifiers for US in terms of offensive production.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
And you know what's the sat part? Did that? The
qualifiers are gonna end in the next next year.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Say right, hearing through the minute is already talking about
the possibility of follow the playing the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Next World Cup qualifiers. He's gonna be fifty seven, brother,
what is this? Man?
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Don't make me laugh? When I got liquid going, man,
you don't want to spit. Take a camera on the computer.
Chile is last obviously ten and they're they're out the door.
Chile isn't going anywhere. But you need you need two
wins and you need help. That's what you need.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Yeah, yeah, I trust that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
Uh the Argentina in the last Leo missus uh appearance
in Argentina were in the Argentina's JR.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
See.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
I think he probably is gonna come up in this
almighty state of mind and.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
And you know, and you know.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
May turn turn wine into water, one into wine and score.
I don't know how many goals and and yeah, create
a new a new message church tonight after after this
company sell Man. But I don't think they're gonna put
that many goals. I think that's gonna win. There's there's
gonna be like probably two nail Well, yeah, I want
(01:04:14):
to I want to say, I want to say, it's
not gonna be a massive, a massive viger for editing.
It's gonna be compelling and it's gonna be solid. Uh
is gonna fight with their lives and their souls under
everything because they they need to put at least one goal.
If they put at least one in despite the final result.
(01:04:37):
I think that's gonna help him a lot. So they're
gonna go that's I think that's the mission right now,
right You're gonna go there and we're gonna try to
score one goal at the moment, regardless of the If
the final score is two three, two, three four, I
don't think it's gonna be four. It's gonna be either
three one or two nail. That's that's my my Mino
(01:04:58):
Damas prediction for that. And of course it's not the
best for our interests.
Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
But uh Peruvian players from So Paulo to Sydney is
the destination? Is it the destination or the journey? What's
going on here?
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
I'm still happy for these two guys. Eric Noriega, which
is probably the the best proven player coming out of
the Lega Wuno this year, and uh he has an
interesting story. A year ago he was he was a
volleyball coach in a district league right he was trying
(01:05:37):
to get an opportunity in the UH in soccer. He
finally guided with a B at the end of the
year and he made it through the first team and
uh he is he was purchased by Gremeo by Grameo.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Portoleda says Paul, I'm sorry, it's Portolaedia. I was just
I was thinking. But anyway, it's Portolado.
Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
And he makes a He made a massive debut playing
against Flamingo right, and all the Brazilian media was like, oh,
this player is for real. Okay, we're gonna keep an
eye on but hear and improve. My he was like
he won the World Cup and he was the golden boot.
He he was you know, he was ready. Aye.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
I want to sell it tomorrow to real and great cheese.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
We please turn it down, man, please don this. This
is so toxic for players because the whether you want
it or not, you're gonna read the comments. You're gonna
read you check on me, check the papers and h
he gets to your head.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Man, he gets to your head.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
And that's not it's not helping, all right, and now
the other but I believe he's gonna he's gonna excel.
He's uh.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
You know what's the best part of this kid That
he's well grounded.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Man, he's so grounded, you know, his family supporting him,
his wife. I mean, you can tell that the kids,
the kid is solid up here. You know, it's solid.
He he's prepared, he's he was studying Portuguese. And when
he went to a after the post post game conference,
(01:07:16):
Floyd Portuguese brother with the Portuguese media, La la lah
Portugal recalibrica.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
No, that's me right, but.
Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Yeah, he was fluda in Portuguese, like okay, Florida, I'm
in fluid. And that tells you, rightther the guy is
being prepared for this, right, waiting for the right time,
for the right call.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
Now the other guy, the other the other.
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
Player, my my Piero, Piero Gize proneers the reports he
went to Pumas, right. This is why I don't like
when when players going to going to the League X
because for me, it's an island, right, It's an island,
a delusional island that they believe that the better than
the premier league.
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
But they don't compete.
Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Played the teams from Beliza, all right, And it's so
hard for players when they go there to make a
jump or to make a leap to a bigger and
better league. Because number one, they paid a lot of
money in Mexico. I mean there a lot of money
Mexico did, and it's crazy they're bringing players from Europe.
(01:08:17):
So it's very competitive in terms of wages. But when
it comes to to sell players out of Mexico, MLAs
sells ten thousands more players and than the than than
the Aliga Max to Europe, not just to freaking I
don't know, Malaysia, okay, And I said, malega, I'm going
(01:08:39):
a little bit out of Malasia here because my boy
Peter went to Sydney e FC in Australia. Okay, he
he went on Alan and uh they were I mean
they were trashing the kid here, improved how you went
to Australia?
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
Are you a gangaroo? What is this? Are you gonna
playing rugby in Australia? You're gonna go surfing? What is it?
This is not This is no a soccer country. Oh
my god.
Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
And then it took my time to do my research
right and I found out the Sydney off See I
sold seventeen players to.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Bayern Munich, to the Premier League in Scotland, to Spain.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
And I was like, okay, so the scouts are looking
into this market, so this might might not be as
bad as it looks from the outside, right, because if
they're buying place from this country, from this team. There's
a chance for him to go to a bigger market
and a bigger lague.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Hopefully it Alianzelima has to pay the highest electric bill
on the planet. What in the blue hell is this about? You?
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Remember?
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
Did I tell you this story right when the report
is you know, won the championship in Alanslima stadium. It
was in the SI twenty three number twenty three three,
and we won.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
The championship in there.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
And as soon as the game was over, with the
team ready to uh to the championship lap around the stadium,
they turned the lights off.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
They turned the lights off. Yeah, okay, and they were
like all right.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
And it was and I'm bringing this up because it
is there's another event that happened in Argentina a couple
of nights ago in La Plata, they turned the lights
off too, and uh, right in the.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Middle I was watching this and it looked like the
banks of lights they just went out and then they
were playing in the dark. And then you had the
one bank work but it was strobe and literally you're
having to play under one bank on one side that
was just strobe lights. And that would make me like
(01:10:59):
motion sick the whole time when you're doing that. Then
they shut it down, and then they bring them back
up and I think it was strobing again. Then they
shut them down, and then they finally they were trying
to figure out if they were going to call the
match or not. I mean, it was just crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
This It was insane. Maybe it was insane, Jenny. What's
the name of the consumer? What the consumers Protector? And
in the US the.
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
Consumer Consumer Product Safety Commission, No One.
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
No one, Right, So we get that one here and improved,
which just called in the copy you know, going to
this is a different name but of same thing. So
they were standing this, right, this this issue from back
in December, and they decided to find Alima with let
me let me put it in in uh, let me
make my calculation here to give you in dollars? Yeah
(01:11:54):
a second, man, it's uh uh forth what Yeah, six
hundred and eighty five thousand dollars is what they have
to pay in alias a Limapore turning the lights off.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Wow, six hundred and eighty five thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
Brother, Because what they said there was against the consumer.
We don't care about your your issues, your mental issues,
that you're gonna do against you. The team that beats
you every time that we play the finals, like when
you have thirty thousand people at the stadium and you
could have raised all that people.
Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
Because of you.
Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
No, you're gonna be fine for these six hundred and
eighty five thousand dollars. Is the what Alansinma has to
pay for it?
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
Turned the lights off?
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
Yeah, yeah, let's learn, don't do it Porto. Now we've
got to actually tell you what one more in South America,
Preu and Chile are in the semifinals. You mentioned Perue
and Chile being in the WC.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
Semifinals. Brother, we are in the semifinals World Cup semifinals
of Breakfast all breakfast. Brother, you know this guy if
I eat this, this this this Spaniard guy, the chubby guy,
he said, this is streamer right. He's the guy who's
making a partner with with piqu the that league whatever
(01:13:25):
they did they call him, and so he's he's making
up the World Cup of of Breakfast and crew is
in the semifinals with the bank versus Chile. You had
the I'm sorry, Chilian, I love you guys, but you
know how to cook. You have you're you're you're, you're
(01:13:45):
so lame. You're so lame when it comes to cooking, brother,
that you have no not a single chance against all breakfast.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
You had no chance in the world. Okay, because it's
it's just avocado. Look, Johnny, it's just avocado X and
what is it? And cheese sandwich?
Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
What was it?
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Brother?
Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
No, we got it, Sharon, We well to good you know,
pork Milly with cilantro and oh my god, all the
juices is just some phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
Right, it's you. No business against us, right, no business
against us.
Speaker 1 (01:14:24):
You mentioned alocado and I'm like, no, that ain't happening.
I'm going the other way. That just no, not happen.
In full disclosure. When the Boston I went to go
see the Conky Calf Group stage and we went to
I went to San josee Costa Rica to say Atlanta
United take on Alreadyano and Alreadiano played on that cement
(01:14:50):
surface that had the welcome matt from like the nineteen
seventies astro turf on top of the surface before they've
rent they're renovating it now. But literally Alreadiano played in
this neighborhood, uh in one of the hillsides in the
suburbs and literally it was like the the old Cincinnati
Red Stadium turf that you play you roll let out
and you've got some men underneath. Literally that's where you
(01:15:11):
were playing. And so we're staying at a hotel and
she's like, here, try this, and it was cevice and look,
and I know that people are gonna hate me from
now on because of this. She's like, here, try the
cavice and I'm like and I tried it, and I'm like, no,
this isn't happening for me. I've never been an avocado person.
(01:15:32):
And savic she.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Capital sin brother, that's not a CIVICI.
Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
The Realvica, the only one, the truly CIVICI is from.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
I know they've made Civici everyone else in on the
coast and the Costa Rica.
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
And yeah, well and and our deer, our dear a
list Alex. Then this, ye yeah, well, washed her hands
of John's terrible food takes no. Look, I am about
as I'm about as even Vanilla's c plus as it gets.
(01:16:08):
It's just like that, ain't no, that ain't happening. She digs,
She digs the spicy food. I don't. She digs like
you get say, she's willing to sit there and go
in any direction and go ooh, I want to try that,
and I'll be like you go right ahead, I'll watch. Yeah,
let me let me know and send me a picture
that is absolutely true. So yeah, my food takes here
(01:16:29):
on the network are legendary and legendarily bad. So that's why,
that's why, that's why Alex was letting you know about that.
A couple of things out of Portugal before before we
get out of here, yeah, nodding, and Forest winger Jota
Silva should have been a Sporting player. Loan deal was agreed,
(01:16:53):
but the Portuguese club missed the deadline for submitting paperwork
back on Monday. They missed the deadline. They'd agreed to
a deal four and a half million year a loan,
fifteen and a half million options for Sporting to sign
on a permanent basis. They figured it all out. Here's
the deal. We got it. You know, it's all good. Paperwork.
(01:17:16):
Missed the deadline by Mike, I want to say, it
was like it was time stamped at like twelve oh one.
They were like a minute off, they said, a matter
of minutes. In the article from the Athletic deal falls
through Forest remains an open to an exit for Jota,
but you end up there was a significant discrepancy in
when Portugal's transfer window is due to close, and so
(01:17:40):
apparently chaos happens and Jotah Silva was supposed to go
from Nottingham Forest to Sporting and he did not.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
You know, I thought that we were well known for
doing that in South America because uh, you know how
many how many of those histories we have here missing
the deadline for the couple of Dosa a lot, Brother
a lot, and we got tons of this.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
Oh we missed the paperwork. Oh, we missed the deadline.
Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
I thought it was a South American thing, but apparently
it's also happening in Portugal.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
Brother, what is going on with the Lions? Brother? She's
but what were you thinking? And we were partying too much?
Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
Or well, I mean it's just you look at that
and you're like, come on, if you were if you're
serious about it, get serious about it and don't sit
there and wait to the bitter end to scentd to
hit send. I mean, give yourself a couple of minutes leeway.
Don't wait until like twelve oh three, figure out your day.
Get it squared away send it at eleven thirty and
you got some space.
Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
They happened here with with Boga juniors and uh and
they they they they realized that.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
They were, oh part of why she's done. It's done
the same and the same uh time shone as yeah
brother or not know that even the evening of these
goes for all your life. And then you suddenly that
moved the line to timeshaw. No, they did, no, but.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
It's it's eight pm in the in the in these coast,
it's six pm on the other.
Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
Side, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
Yeah. On the field in Lega, Portugal, you mentioned Porto.
They are back knocking on Sporting two to one at
the end of August and they Porto won last time out.
Real Ave drawa bragas Anta Cleta and Australia draw. Ben
Fica beats Alverca two to one, Estrail Tundela draw, Porto
(01:19:39):
beats Sporting at a plus two ninety three two one.
Formally Cow wins game, Victorio Gimer Sharuka draw, Nacional beats Casapia.
But the big one Porto gets to win over Sporting.
How did this happen? And it is now Porto two
points up after four matches.
Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
It is it is so good for the league, It
is so good for the competition. It is so good
for the Portistas. Now the team is back, man, their
team is back. They've been in the shimbals for I
don't know the last couple of years, not no, I
mean not knowing, no, losing their identity. It used to
be port of the most relentless team in the in
(01:20:22):
the competition.
Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
Going to Draga was was a drama for everybody. But they,
I mean they lost respect to port of Me. They
lost respect to port to the last two seasons, I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
I say that everyone was winning in ADRAA, but there
were several teams that they port never lost against them.
And then twenty years in twenty five years and they
were dropping points against teams.
Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
That are they were not expecting to do so.
Speaker 3 (01:20:47):
But now number one for the early With all do respect,
for all the love to matrinal Semi brother, you did
not click your your terms, your ideas, your tactics. Hopefully
you get it done in A in UH, in Brazil
or now that you're in the university.
Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
But for the only he went out there shut down.
Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
With the UH with willas was, and then they said,
all right, what do we need? What do we need?
What's our biggest issue? Set a back position? Okay, let
me get this guy beta outstanding.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
What else do we need?
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
We need a series striker, a season striker, because we
got all right, let me get a look young.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
And nobody saw that coming either.
Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
There was a mystery, our well known cover up for
for bringing the young. No, no, no, not even knew
about this. All right, so they did they present this guy?
And then what was the other position? The midfield? We
need a number eight that is going to be combative,
it is creative, that is hungry for for glory. All right,
(01:21:57):
let me get this Lord of the rings here, mister
though probably right. Basically, how does not I call him?
It's for hold, this is his nickname. I name the
Lord of the Rings. So players on key positions that
they needed, and they went into the market and the
crushing market. They got the best transfer window market in
(01:22:21):
years in Portugal. And not because they're making big splashes. No, no, no, no,
these guys are not fifty million dollars, no, no, no, ten
to fifteen twenty here, fifteen. They're all right, let's land
this up. Let's set up the structure.
Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
Boys pay off Spain off big time, big, big time.
You know, they're now.
Speaker 3 (01:22:43):
Aggressive, they're relentless, they're efficient. And plus they have these
two young kids, actually three, I'm gonna say three young
kids that are then they're gonna carry this team with
all their birth talents.
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
Number one is.
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
Rodyma who think God, thank God, he did not live
for Saudi Arabia, but he stayed. He stayed with the dragons.
And that's that is massive, man, that is massive, okay.
And then the other one is Will Gomez, who play
a massive game on on the classical to be sporting
and hold you know this Danish guy, he's so talented,
(01:23:23):
he's so dynamic. He goes up and down. He's the
perfect combination, the perfect teammate for for Alan Barela in
the Argentine that now he can focus more to be
the the anchor to be and not covering the spots
on the right, spots on the left and going like
an octopus. No, no, I'm gonna be in the main channel
(01:23:44):
on a whole here. And you guy, you got the
power of the ring, so go ahead and do your magic.
So and then the three there's the three young players
so fast, so dynamics, so created and so powerful that
they can not the speed. And that's what Portrait is
doing this year. You know, they love something that the
(01:24:04):
logest speed, the lodest stamping. A lot of the intensity
is back. The dragons are back, and they're back for good.
It's gonna be I still have Sporting as the number
one candidate to win the league, but it's gonna be
a tough fight.
Speaker 1 (01:24:20):
Really really really, what do you call them this weekend?
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
M let me see this week is you're why?
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Because it's you know why only brother, you know, is
the only league that doesn't stop. That's the only league
that doesn't stop. They don't care about international breaks. No, no, no,
it's I got a piano Plasa Colonia.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
What is this on Saturday part thirty pm?
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
And then I got City of Liverpool, brother, I got
City Liverpool monte Video City Liverpool, mont City versus Liverpool
from monte Video.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
Make it not making that? And what as I have
cera ladigo? I don't know about something this week? You
this week? You know, that's that's what we happen.
Speaker 1 (01:25:07):
It's all you yeah, defense or in you' ventued is
tomorrow Wanderers, Danubio and and this I Giveguay credit because
they don't overlap their their time their start times. So
you go bang bang bang bang bang. You literally can
watch the whole you can watch the whole calendar. Yeah,
during the weekend, wanders Danubio, Penrol Plaza, Colonia, Boston River
(01:25:28):
River Plate. Oh that is in two days at seven thirty.
Then on the seventh o Largo progressed with me tomorrow
naal Monta Video and monte Video City and Liverpool. That
is what it is. Ony. Uh. There was a before
you get out of here, there was a birthday that you
got to celebrate.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Yeah, yes, yes, well yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
Considering that birthday celebration that you got for Toffee.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Oh buddy, you can't you birth like yeah whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Yeah, yeah, Toffee's like, dude, put that back. I'm let
me show you that Toffee turned three, by the way,
and so that's that's what we're doing all you. No, look,
that's yeah. But but for putting the hat on Toffee,
I'm waiting for the moment where Toffee is going to
(01:26:21):
basically do something to you while you're sleeping for revenge
for putting that hat on him. For a birth take
you out one weekend when you're sleeping late for putting
that hat on him, and it's going to be when
you least expected.
Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
Oh my god, man, he's so fine. Man, he's so cool.
He was so cool when when we're singing the song
and everything.
Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
He's like, can we get this ish over with? Please
put me down? Uh. So, as always, we love you,
my friend, and congratulations on Toffee. Another lap around the
sun and say hi to your mom. Be safe and
we will up with you next week. It's always great
to see you, my friend. Be safe, have great calls,
and we'll catch up with you next week.
Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
My guys, thank you, Johnny you next week.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Torres somebody from gold TV. Yeah, we couldn't resist. Nino
posted on the Gram or the ig or the Insta,
whatever the kids say. He posted photos of Toffee and
his mom. He and his mom were celebrating Toffee's third birthday.
And as you say, as you saw, Toffee's just kind
of over the whole thing. He's just like, look, dad,
(01:27:31):
you're talking. It's too early in the morning and I'm sleeping,
and so literally we disturbed Toffee from his sleep. That's
what happened. So uh Taffee celebrated US third. There are
pictures up on Nino's Instagram and that was very very cool.
Uh news out of Manchester City. That screaming you heard
was Drew Dickinson. Dioga the Low withdrew from international duty
(01:27:52):
with Portugal set to feature in the double header with
Armenia and Hungry now not featuring due to muscle discomfort.
What is that? What is muscle discomfort? My muscles aren't comfortable.
They're not comfortable with me. My muscles aren't comfortable. Muscle discomfort?
(01:28:13):
Did did Did the physio actually talk to the muscle
and go, do you feel comfortable right now? The muscle
went no, it is I feel discomfort. Okay, muscle, then
we'll take care of you. I'm guessing that's what the
conversation was with Diego Delou, the physio and the muscle.
We don't know what muscle it is. Let me go
(01:28:34):
down further into the article. Uh Noona Tavares called up
to replace Diogo Delou complained of muscle discomfort and was
released by the Health and Performance Unit. So Delou due
to return to Manchester further tests withdraw from the national
team could not come at a worse time or ben
Omrim already sweating on the fitness of another couple of players.
(01:28:54):
Concerns Overcunya and Mount as they hobbled through injury against Burnley.
Cunya was clutching his hand amstring. Mount appeared to have
suffered a muscle injury. Maybe someone should ask Mason Mounts
muscles if they are suffering from discomfort. So yes, so
Diego Delo sent home, did not even get into the
first match, did not get into the first match. News
(01:29:20):
from John Arnold just released. Court of Arbitration for Sport
dismissed the appeal for Mexican Second Division teams. However, part
of the reasoning for the dismissal is the CAST panel
concluded that the FMF and always determined to suspend the
system until the conclusion of the twenty five to twenty
sixth season. So cast appeal by six second Division Mexican
(01:29:41):
clubs dismissed the appeal against the Federation concerning immediate reinstatement
of promotion relegation in the Mexican First Division. Appeal file
on file on May nineteenth, sought to reinstate promotion and
relegation in lega Emeki's after the decision by the federation
in April confirmed that the he remained suspended for twenty
five twenty six. FMF first suspended promotion relegation for six
(01:30:04):
seasons from nineteen twenty and then that would that would
lead it to twenty five to twenty six anyway at
the end of the the moratorium on promotion and relegation
during COVID nineteen pandemic. Initially ten clubs involved in the
appeal Atlante, Simaronas de Sonora, Albrijes, di Wajaka and Hiberbrava
(01:30:24):
withdrew following appellants proceeding Atletico Lapase, Atletico Morelia, Cancun, Mineros
de Zacatecas Venedos and Leonis Negros. In person hearing took
place August twenty eighth in Mexico City. After examining the evidence,
cast panel concluded FMF had always determined to suspend the
system until the conclusion of twenty five twenty six, made
(01:30:45):
clear to the clubs when the decision was taken. Specifically,
the panel found that sporting seasons impacted by the agreement
at the General Assembly in twenty twenty corresponded to those
in the FMF decision at April twenty nine to twenty five,
the last one being the twenty six season document unofficial
summary for media use unless parties request confidentiality. Castle Ward
(01:31:05):
with grounds will be published on the website in do course.
So you had the second division teams in Mexico, a
lot of the heavy hitters like Leonis Negros, they wanted
to have it reinstated, and they wanted to have it
reinstated sooner than the six year window that was initially
placed by the Mexican Federation. So Cast in their ruling
(01:31:28):
was like they've already said six years, so they're in
line with what they said, So you can't appeal it,
and so wait until probably what may happen is you
look at the end of the six year window, then
the Federation will decide, okay, do we reinstate promotion relegation
And if they don't, then this probably gets to revisit
(01:31:49):
casts all over again when it comes to the courts
and such. So we'll keep an eye on all that
because you have heavy hitters down in the lower division
that want to be a part of the discussion. Latmos
Negros is the one that will constantly stick in my head,
and John responded to that, he goes seems to me
that if pro ral doesn't return for twenty six twenty seven,
(01:32:11):
casts would take a very different view. Yes, and that's
what I'm anticipating here, is that once the twenty five
twenty six seasons over that six year window closes, then
if they decide we're just going to continue it, then
the second division clubs the six they sit there and
they do this cycle all over again. I think they
(01:32:32):
would win it the second time around. I think they
would win it the second time around in this particular,
this particular rundown of everything. So that is, like I said,
that literally is my that's my gut feeling when it
comes to all of all of that stuff. So keep
(01:32:54):
an eye on that as we keep an eye on
things here in and around this particular part of the plan.
Nico Moreno coming up in just a little bit. Obviously
you'll be here for final half hour of the show
and wasting no time, no time wasted none whatsoever. We're
gonna see how the studio continues to evolve and grow.
(01:33:15):
We're gonna talk about Major League Soccer. I'm gonna talk
about League's Cup story that trickled out of the Pacific
Northwest about national teams and people being possibly shunned, all
the things. It's almost like a circle today. Since we
started talking about Louis Suarez in the first hour, probably
gonna talk about him here in the second hour. So
(01:33:37):
we go from Lima, Peru to Seattle, Washington, find out
what's going on in the polue with our buddy Nico Moreno, Nico,
what up?
Speaker 4 (01:33:47):
What is going on? John SDH Femley, I'm a little
high up there. How's everybody doing.
Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
No, you're styling, you're styling. You're good. It's all good rock.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:33:57):
Is the start of the NFL season, So it broke
cut the Raiders cab for a good luck just for today,
so bear with me. I am looking for a nice
little Seattle Sounder hat as well as my lights I'm
waiting for. But it is a nice, cool morning here
in the PNW. I am in my second cup of
(01:34:19):
Joe and just ready to talk about I'm sure a
whole lot on League's Cup and then we'll eventually get
to some MLS action.
Speaker 1 (01:34:30):
That is true. We got a handful of matches because
you can opt out of taking time off and so
four matchups this weekend. We'll run through those in a bit,
But what I wanted to do with you, obviously is
lead off with Leagu's Cup. And I'll just say it.
I mean, we were breaking it down earlier in the
(01:34:51):
week and the defensive game plan against Messy and friends,
literally since this is the first day of the NFL season.
The analogy that I gave was, you had man coverage
by Seattle, or it was blanket coverage when they would
play zone. But the second that Messi goes into the pattern,
(01:35:13):
you bump him, You get him off his route, You
bump him a little bit, you get them, get him
out of their rhythm, and the rhythm gets disrupted. And
so the quarterback when he wants to deliver the pass
and the flat to Messi, he hadn't gotten to his
point yet because he's bumped off of the line of scrimmage.
And they made a point Seattle did defensively to get
him bumped off his game to kind of disrupt the
(01:35:34):
thought patterns there for Messi and Friends in that matchup.
Speaker 4 (01:35:38):
Yeah, and to put it in simplest terms, it was
about taking one player of the game the way Bill
Belichick does it. The way the you know, the big
defensive minds do it is if you're gonna beat me,
he's gonna be with your tight end or you know,
your your other receiver, but we're going to take out
your your best receiver. And that's kind of what happened here, right.
I mean, I think this was probably the best I've
(01:36:02):
seen a team limit lil no Messi. I think that
Orlando is probably the only other team that does a
great job at taking him off. But they just closed
all his avenues. And as you mentioned, it was constant
pressure of whenever he would pick up the ball or
whenever he would even be in spaces where he could
(01:36:23):
pick up the ball. And it was a collective effort.
You know, you wanted to keep the line of confrontation
extremely high. Brian told you that right off the bat
at the beginning of the week. They did that. So
it was Peppo pedro leve Got doing a lot of defending,
a lot of pressure, and a lot of making sure
that he was able to bother Messi when he would
have the ball, he would help out. It was Ovid
(01:36:45):
Bargains a rocket his shoe the entire game, right, He
was a shadow making sure that every time he got
the ball, he felt some sort of pressure. Christian roll
Dan as well, both pivots knew exactly where Messi was
going to pick up the ball when he was deeper
in front of the eighteen. It was Yea Margomez Androne,
it was Jackson Reagan, it was read at times. I mean,
(01:37:07):
it was just a collective effort to ensure that every
time that Messi would get the ball, he'd pick it
up in non dangerous positions. And even if he did
pick it up, you want him to play negative, You
want him to feel the pressure. He was obligated to
even try a couple of mid ray shots that were
either block or just completely off by Messi. I think
(01:37:29):
that that myst that he has in front of goal
has to do with a lot of frustration, has to
do with just a lack of rhythm. They did not
allow Messi to get in a rhythm. And I just
thought that it was an overall great defensive game, and
it wasn't just about Messi as well. I thought that
Seattle's press was extremely effective. If they weren't picking a ball,
(01:37:51):
they were forcing turnovers of some poor passing from inner Miami.
I thought that when it was when he came down
to emergency defense when things would break down, because there
were moments when you know, Messi and friends were able
to put a through ball, they were able to get
you on the counter, and the emergency defense by the
Sounders was great. You know, it was a block shot
(01:38:12):
by Yemark. It was a fantastic, phenomenal tackle last minute
into a shot of Rigordo Paul inside the eighteen by
Jackson Reagan. It was OVID Bargains poking the ball out
of Messi inside the eighteen. I mean, it was just
an overall effort by a defense that knew that they
had to hustle, that they had to eliminate all of
(01:38:35):
the connections that Messi and Alba and busquets would have,
and they didn't allow that bluetooth technology right that almost
by a sense of connectivity right that they usually have.
They completely took it off. So credit to the tactics
(01:38:57):
by Brian Smetzer, and credit to the execution by every
single body in that pitch.
Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
On the day. Shots on target courtesy of our friends
at SOFA Score dealing with Lionel Messi. Answer to that
question is that no shots on target officially registered by
Lionel Messi, two off target, three blocked one of six
(01:39:24):
on the dribble, sixty touches thirty to thirty seven, passing
at eighty one percent. That the one key, one key pass,
one key pass, one for three on crosses, five of
eight on long balls, three for ten on his ground duels,
lost possession nineteen times, two times he was fouled as
(01:39:46):
a part of it. And then obviously no defensive numbers.
But that's the breakdown. No shots on target, three shots blocked,
one for six on the dribble for Lionel Messi in
that game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:02):
No, no, that that that's credit, that's absolute credit to
the sounders. And you know, I heard, you know was
at the pitch, was at the rough terrain, and like,
look at the end of the day, there was plenty
of time for in Miami to get used to accustomed
to the field. There were opportunities Agenda miss is one
in front of goal as well, and it all goes
(01:40:22):
back to just the overall great collective effort. And I
think that's why emotions go high at the end.
Speaker 5 (01:40:31):
Of the game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
It's because there was so much frustration from everybody. And look,
credit to mentally to this team. I still have not
been able to confirm whether Messi told Pedro de la
Vega that he would not be part of the national
team as long as he was involved. But there was
definitely a lot of chirping, uh from little Messy trying
(01:40:52):
to scold, trying to limit Peter Levega's efforts. Right then,
really good to Paul also goes down to Peppo and
talks to them and make sure. And there was chirping
to the referee, and credit to referee for being very
consistent throughout the game. So their inability to control and
(01:41:13):
affect the game because of their aura, because of their
legendary status, that was big. They felt disrespected. I told
you that they needed to disrespect this team, not verbally,
but just saying, look, you might be the goat, but
today you're just one of twenty two players. You're on
the other end, and I'm gonna treat you like I
would anybody else. And credit to de la Vega, credit
(01:41:35):
to Ovid Bargas, credit to Christian Rodin because they were
not worried about exchanging jerseys at the end of the
game with number ten right, there was one number ten
on that field that shined bright and it was Pedro
de la Vega.
Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
It was not messy And for those that may not
know what Nico was talking about, sound or at heart
and your attack team partner Jeremiah Shane headline, Leo Messi
reportedly blackballed in quotation marks Pedro dela Vega from Argentina
national team subheader. Former MLS player Alan Gordon said, an
(01:42:10):
inside source and yes I did, just used air quotes
told him that Messi engaged in some questionable banner with
its countryman Jeremiah's article and it goes with the uh
Pedro de la Vega. What you were discussing one of
the least effective games since coming to MLS and that's
why I went into the numbers. So, according to Alan
Gordon on the Major League Jernaman podcast, Messi told Dela
(01:42:33):
Vega quote, You'll never play for the national team as
long as I'm involved. Gordon then added he basically blackballed
him on the field. Gordon sites an inside source for
the information, spent fifteen seasons in MLS, played for six
different teams. Galaxy and Earthquakes are a part of it.
Jeremiah continues. He says, whether that's just in game banter
(01:42:55):
or a serious threat is obviously impossible to say, but
it certainly casts a different light around a player whose
image is generally considered pretty impeccable. For Dela Vega, if
he can continues to play the way he has over
the last couple of months, future will take care of itself.
So that's the the article with Jeremiah at Sounder at Heart.
So I mean, like I said, we don't have any
(01:43:15):
corroboration one way or the other, and I doubt we
will ever get corroboration one way or the other when
it comes to national team rosters and things like that.
Interesting side port to that whole thing was that Pedro
Dela Vega, as you said, frustrate, was a part of
a team that frustrated Messi from one end of the
day to the other there up there at Lumenfield. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:43:38):
Look, I've been a Pedro advocate old season. The man
has arrived and he had a rith right. He has
showed you exactly what he could give you, and in
this particular game, he was a tempa setter. He was
a guy that pinned back Ian Frey. That honestly, had
I and Frey seen little Stars or little Twitty Birds
(01:43:58):
all game long, because he didn't know where Pedro was
gonna come from. It didn't matter if it was a
direct ball through the back line, it didn't matter if
it was Pedro on the ball, It didn't matter if
it was Pedro defending. Whenever in Miami would play out
of the back. So Pedro was just so good. Every
(01:44:19):
single cross that he put into the eighteen had just
venom and it was gonna be a problem, right. And
you see osasid Rosario early in that game just almost
get to the ball, almost get to the ball and
couldn't quite get there. But it was that pressure on
the left side that essentially at one point to the
(01:44:41):
game in the first goal inner, Miami's late to shift
and sus Ferrera, a guy that has been so important
because of his versatility, across this great run the Seattle's under.
He finds Alex Rogun on the right side, Paul roth
Ruck makes a run that kind of pulls Alba out
(01:45:03):
of position. It's a perfect ball from Alex Intolo. Sase
Osasa makes a great run, grade header and that's where
everything starts off right. So it's just credit to this
team for just understanding what needed to be done in
that game. But it starts with a guy like Peppo.
It starts with a guy that's just being so good
(01:45:24):
in so many ways, in so many aspects. And sure
after that, it's all about containing Lionel Messi, containing the pall,
not allowing Sera Hubuskutz to find those spaces to put
through balls. I thought I did a great job at
once again pinning back those fullbacks or those wing backs.
We talked about it here in this exact same show.
(01:45:45):
There was gonna be space for Shatura to attack in
the flanks, and there was a lot of space for
Sata to have. There were opportunities that were missed. And
then Brian Smetzer, with some very intelligent and bald moves
again on the substitutions, takes off, Pedro takes off. Paul
Rothrock been saying, you know, different players, Jergimningu could into
(01:46:08):
the game with all the energy in the world he
creates that generates that PK that essentially Alex Rodam puts
away with all of the composure in the world, and
then just to put the perfect bow on top of
a phenomenal game. Paul Rothrock, the Seattle Kid, the kid
that had always been told there wasn't talented enough to
(01:46:29):
be on that roster. That I myself had been telling
people that he'd been so good for the system, and
I didn't get where the disrespect was coming from that
kid that at least one hundred people in attendance decided
to trade in their Lionel Messy jersey for a Paul
(01:46:50):
Rothrock jersey. When he put that goal away, that three
zero goal, that comes a lot of effort, right, the
ball's not really going to him, you know, it's he
just picks it up because he makes that hustle play
and then he has the ability to get into the eighteen,
cross the ball on the other side and make the
three zero. The state ofm erupted that record league League cup,
(01:47:15):
uh record crowd just exploded in Limonfield, And it was
because it was that hometown kid. It was that guy
that embodies everything that talks about this particular group, the collectiveness,
the heart, the effort. That goal was just the perfect
cherry on top.
Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
So you're talking about this moment.
Speaker 5 (01:47:35):
Huh right, pulling tun times the sounders like a lance.
Speaker 4 (01:47:56):
Come oh man, it gives you use bumps. Absolutely, one
hundred percent, one hundred percent and probably Primetime is right, baby,
Probably Primetime is spot on.
Speaker 1 (01:48:12):
Yeah, that was a courtesy of our friends at Apple
TV and MLS. You get a moment like that and
then Schmitzer gives him the curtain call and then matches over,
and I know we have to talk about this, and
there is some new information involving League's Cup and protests
(01:48:33):
that will get in after this. But all hell breaks
loose after the final whistle.
Speaker 4 (01:48:40):
Yeah. Look, I was calling the game for thirteen and
sixty am there in Spanish, which is a great game
to call. Uh, And obviously I'm standing in the booth
with you know, the windows wide open so you can,
you know, hear the crowd, and the game is over,
and you know we're talking about history and culture beating
(01:49:03):
a generic made up you know, like corporate build roster
to win games, and how you know young talent and
hard can overthrown legacies. And all of a sudden, I
see some scuffles, so I take my phone out and
phone got a great zoom, so you know, I put
it out there and I see Cereal Busquets get close
(01:49:28):
to Ovid Bargains hit him with a what a little
jab to the chin. I don't care how soft that was.
People on my comments, and that's not that's a punch.
That's not a punch. She wasn't strong enough, like it's
a close fist to my face, that's a punch. And
you know, but with bargains goes down, does he oversell it?
Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:49:49):
Why not? It's better than engaging in any sort of
fights and then everything breaks loose. I continue to stand
on the notion that the Sounder players were doing everything
in their power to contain or rip off Inner Miami
players from their teammates, rather than engaging back with punches,
(01:50:12):
which Cello did, which Busquets did, and we'll talk about
Suarez here in a second, but when that may have
was happening, and it was the Inner Miami players that
were swinging for defenses, you know, I said it yesterday
on the sidelines of podcasts That's and show Sports show
that's here in locally in the Pacific Northwest, and I said, look,
(01:50:36):
this could have turned into the Malice in the Palace
if the Sounder players would have started throwing kicks and punches,
because people will start coming off the stands, and it
could have been so much worse. But it was that
composure that I think held it all together and it
wasn't more gasoline added into that brawl.
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
Yeah. I think though, by the end of the day,
I think that when ever League's Cup Disco comes forward,
you're probably gonna see envelopes for John Bell Jackson, Reagan Suarez, Busquets,
cell Owagant, Thomas Aveles, and Maxie Falcone who had somebody
in a rear chin lock. So that's my guess. You're
probably gonna see eight envelopes, most of them heading to Miami.
(01:51:20):
And we did get into early this morning what Major
League Soccer could do through the eyes of the MLSPA.
And if it's more than two, if MLS jumps in,
we don't, like I said, we don't know what Leagues
Cup Disco is going to do. If Leagues Cup Disco says,
you know, five, six, whatever, then MLSPA and Major League
(01:51:43):
Soccer can come in from behind and tack on. They've
done things like this before, like with Open Cup and things.
So if it's more than two, it has to go
to an appeal because of the collective Bargaining Agreement, and
so we got into the dynamics of that. But the
next stage in this goes to Major League Soccer and
what they are going to do. And some of the
(01:52:05):
folks in our twitch pitch are like, they're not going
to do anything because it is messy and friends, what
is your gut? Tell you?
Speaker 4 (01:52:14):
Look, I see your MLS and League's Cup, comedee or
people who are responsible. But I'll race you Inner Miami.
I mean it starts with them. It should be on them.
For Inner Miami, it's easy to wash their hands and say, oh, look, Messi,
is the league coming after you? Is the league trying
(01:52:36):
to suspend your buddy and friend and good old Powell
Luis Suarez for what he did. Nobody wants to disturb you,
don't know, Messi. So Inner Miami is going to just
kind of wash their hands of the whole thing and
just allow them to do it. But as the direct
club that has that player representing that badge, should they
(01:53:00):
not be the ones that internally discipline everyone that had
some additional non unnecessary or vile repugnant actions, because because
I think that's where he should start. It should be
Inter Miami. This should have already had a statement out,
They should have already addressed the situation. They should have
(01:53:21):
already talked to Luis Sarez and said, look, internally, you're
not We're suspending you for X amount of games. It's
crazy how we go hard on a guy like knew
Who for throwing the ball on the stands, but we
don't go hard on something that is as vile as
what we saw after that game. So to me, there
(01:53:43):
will be suspensions. There will be at least six games.
That is where I set the bar for Luis Suarez
because of what he did. Because he went after an
elderly staff member that's trying to get away from him,
that he steps with his cleat on his shoe to
(01:54:06):
not allow him to get away from him. You see
the staff member trying to look away, trying to get away,
and then you spit in his face.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
That is.
Speaker 4 (01:54:16):
Beyond deplorable. And Luisaurus is a tiny, tiny man and
maybe a great soccer player, but an incomplete human being,
and he should be made an example of. And I
hope that he's in Miami, and I hope it is MOLS,
and I think it will be MLS that ultimately upholds
(01:54:38):
those suspensions to all the players that you talked about,
Falcone and Aveolans who had no reason to be there
throwing punches and Cello trying to sucker punch people from
the back, and you know you're having Freddie Wares trying
to grab you and Steffen Freed trying to stop you
so you don't go hit somebody. So those aggress to
(01:55:00):
me are the ones that should have the highest penalties.
If because they're trying to protect themselves and get away
from their players, Jackson, Reagan and j Bell get disciplinary actions,
then that's fine as well, as long as those others
are more stringent and they show the severity of what
(01:55:24):
they did.
Speaker 1 (01:55:25):
News from our buddy Mike Gramajo down in Orlando yesterday
that Orlando City the Purple Team filed on Friday a
formal complaint to League's Cup organizers regarding the officiating of
the semi final match against Messi and Friends. Purple Team
loses three to one. Controversial refereeing and this is Mike's
(01:55:47):
copy from West TV. Refereing that went both ways eventually
saw Orlando reduced to ten when David Breccolo was sent
off on a PK call. Orlando City defender and captain
Robin Johnson also shown a straight red following the final
whistle when Johnson allegedly verbally insulted match officials. According to
League's Cup Disco, Johnson's red cart appealed by the team
(01:56:08):
not successful and obviously waiting for comment from League's Cup.
When asked if the team had received a sponsor from
tournament organizers, club spokespersman told WESH TV the complaint was acknowledged.
So there you go. So not the end for the
Disco on the Disco committee for League's Cup. They now
(01:56:28):
have Orlando City filing a formal complaint to organizers regarding
the officials in that matchup in the semi final too,
so we got to keep an eye on that as well.
Speaker 4 (01:56:40):
I think that's important. I think that more of these
are gonna come. I think that Inner Miami has now
done a great job ad just becoming this villain and
what at one point was acceptable, which should have never
been acceptable. But you kind of knew that the league
was going to protect the goose, the laid the golden
(01:57:02):
eggs in Lionel Messi. But now it's become so in
your face, right, It's become so obvious that yeah, I
absolutely agree. I mean, look that that game between Orlando
and Inner Miami is decided by ultimately not giving Angulo
that penalty kick in the eighteen. That's a clear PK.
(01:57:25):
It's a clear PK to me, I mean that, there's
literally no question. And then everything else that happens afterwards,
including the red card off of the PK that is
awarded for Orlando City right so against Orlando City. So
all those things to me are obvious. And look, I've
talked to some GMS and other front office members from
(01:57:45):
different clubs and they've all said, look, if it was
my guy that did that, there'd be some internal disciplinary actions.
And I really hope that that puts some sort of
pressure on Inner Miami to do so as well, regardless of.
Speaker 1 (01:57:59):
Who it is. Four matches this weekend in Major League Soccer,
and it's because you can opt out. You say, now
we're playing, and so you have four matchups Fire and revs.
Dynamo and Lag All Caps in FC Dallas. All the
home teams are favorites there, Fire re minus one thirty nine,
(01:58:20):
Dynamos and minus one twenty seven All Caps reminus one
oh two. It's changing in front of me literally as
we're talking. And then Sunday Night Soccer Sporting hosting Austin
Sporting favored at a plus one forty three. Are you
taking the weekend off or are you gonna be watching those?
Speaker 4 (01:58:36):
I mean, I was hoping to watch some games, but
these are some sleepers, you know what I mean? These
are these are something you know, good, good thing. It's
at five thirty Pacific, I mean any earlier and it
might be naptime for me for sure. But uh, I mean,
I guess the LA Galaxy Houston game would be interesting
just because the LA Galaxy have kind of resurrected a
(01:58:56):
little bit of their soccer. You saw Paints have a
great all in the last last weekend. You saw pet
get more involved. You know, Marcus Reus I feel like
he's also coming along, So that one might be interesting. Houston,
Man is a team that I was just on ESPN
Houston with Glenn and it's crazy how much they are
(01:59:20):
in dire need for Sunday to change in Houston right.
They they have this crowds that are not going. They
have this team does in this array, So that one
I'll be fine to watch. I think the LA Galaxy
are heavy favorites here on my end, what's the goal
composure on that one? The goal compost.
Speaker 1 (01:59:39):
All right, so Houston and lag it is, let's see,
as we said here and look at over unders two
and a half a minus one sixty three, three and
a half a plus one forty nine, so it flips
at three or it's a plus one oh two. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:59:55):
Yeah, I don't mind that three and a half at all.
I think this might be a game some goals. I mean,
it was three to two between them and Saint Louis.
I would think that it was gonna it's gonna be
a little bit along those lines. So I do like
that three and a half. I do like the La
Galaxy that Chicago. New England's interesting. New England has, you know,
started to move in the right direction. Obviously, this is
(02:00:18):
a FIFA uh break, you know, so there's gonna be
some some missing players from some of these teams. But
uh yeah, I think Chicago was another good one there
in the Sporting Kansas City Austin. I like Austin on
that game for sure. I really like what I saw
from them last weekend. I know it's San Jose, I
(02:00:41):
know it, San Jose, I get it. I mean they
are very vulnerable, to say the least when it comes
to defensive abilities. But but I do like what they're
starting to do on their own, right. I think uh
Abukari is getting some traction he's become and that guy
that they they purchase, right, the guy that is going
(02:01:03):
to stretch out defense is the guy that's gonna be
a magnet on that and and Uzuni as well. I
feel like he's really coming over for this team. Uh So, Yeah,
I like Austin on that one. Sporting Kansas City continues
to have issues of their own regardless of coming from
a win, but I like Austin in that one.
Speaker 1 (02:01:23):
All Right, what's going on Soundered Heart and Pulso Sports?
What a folks need to know?
Speaker 4 (02:01:28):
Absolutely, we have a ton of content from League's Cup
still on Pulso Sports. We want to look at some
of that recap of that.
Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
The brawl.
Speaker 4 (02:01:37):
You want to look at some of the fantastic interviews
we had afterwards. Do you want to hear a sasset
call in Miami some sore losers? Do you want to call?
Do you want to listen to what happened in that
moment where Christian roll Dan looks like he's going to
take that p K and he's holding the ball, holding
the ball and then Alex Roordang goes and takes it.
(02:01:58):
I thought it was awesome that Alex said, look, that
was that was part of the game plan. Why do
we do it? Because everybody was gonna come at Christian.
He was gonna take the heat. Everybody's starting to get
in his mind, and then all of a sudden I
get behind him and take the peak. I thought it
was brilliant from the brothers there. H. So you could
hear that. Of course you could hear from Matano, you
(02:02:20):
could hear from Bryan Smetzer. The guys have five days off,
so they won't be back at Providence Swedish Clubhouse and uh,
you know, toy Store for for quite some time. Uh.
But at the same time, we will have some more
content from us.
Speaker 5 (02:02:37):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:02:37):
You're obviously gonna get the show at some point there.
On Friday we'll have Jeremiah and I when we learned
this week, and then of course on Monday kick off
with Ari lillonwall.
Speaker 1 (02:02:50):

Speaker 1 (02:03:13):

fantasy team because they stink and so we're average. Tomorrow
it is once again catching up with our friends from
Major League Soccer. Hopefully our friends from Beyond Goals Entering
can drop by. We'll find out what's going on there
and we'll get you ready for the weekend. Across the board,
it's US, M and T. We got a couple of friendlies.
We got stuff. Reminder, dan Orlowitz is going to join
(02:03:35):
us on Monday to discuss USA and Japan. We'll have
that one for you as well. So for everybody here
to allay, thanks for dropping by. Thanks to oh Bart's
joined us, Derek Sin David and all the things, and yes,
Derek is right on. The pink team could have used
muscle discomfort as an excuse for both Messi and Alba
(02:03:56):
in the All Star Game. They could have but they didn't,
and then you have the fuor that is attached. So
back at it again for another Friday, and we'll see
if we can still catch up with Scott Wells. Hopefully
he's catching up on his sleep after the big win
for Gardner Web last night. For all of us here
mucha platy al plate say, since it's the end of
the show, that means I get to do this, Back
at it again a little less than twenty two, See
(02:04:19):
you on a Friday, everybody. It was one of those
days you end up making sure that you hit the
wrong button twice. Hit the wrong button to start, hit
the wrong button to close. It figures we'll see you later.
