Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's another week of SDHAM. John here you there, thanks
for hanging out as you always do. And today majority
of the show is going to be about the US
M and T and what happened on the weekend. We
do have Art Keeler coming in in his traditional ten
o'clock slot to start off our number two, and that
will kind of be the ranting and the recapping, and

(00:49):
we do have a sound from Tim Reem and Serginio
dest after the match, and we'll get into the South
Korea match in our number two in depth. Please adjust
your volumes accordingly. In our number one, we'll wrap up
the discussion about well, we'll start the discussion about Tuesday,

(01:10):
and then we'll get into Bart Dan Orlowitz joined us
on tape last night from Tokyo, and so for us
our time here in the East coast of the United States,
it was nighttime. For Dan, it was breakfast a brunch maybe.
So Dan's going to the interview with Dan is going
to be in our number one previewing just to kind

(01:33):
of give you an idea what the Japanese with the
Japan national team is going to look like and what
they have looked like. We'll talk about what happened against
Mexico and leading into the matchup against the United States.
So we will have our opposition research involving Japan here
in the tail end of our number one. Bart will
start our number two looking back at what happened and

(01:56):
we'll see where it goes. We do have some news
to get into this morning, and some stuff having to
do with spurs and other things that are out in
the ether, or we'll get into all of that this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
And it's gonna be another fun, busy week.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Just to kind of give you the lay of the
land opening kickoff and a bit continues to deal with
soccer on the university scale in Middle Georgia.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
There's your teas tomorrow. It is going to be CACD.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Case Is Casey White's going to join us with all
the stuff that she did over the last X number
of days, so pick a league. CACD probably called something
in it. We'll talk about it. She'll be at nine
point fifteen. Then we'll track down Scott Wells, the head
coach at Gardner Webb as they came off of their
big win in Morgantown was Virginia last week, so we'll

(02:45):
find out what's going on with Gardner Webb as they
knock off the top fifteen team. I think it was
the first time that they've done that in school history,
first time in three years that West Virginia I believe
had lost at home. So we'll catch up with Scott
after his drive home and crashing and recovering and hopefully
he's recovered. So we'll catch up with the head coach

(03:06):
at Gardner Webb on the men's side, Scott Wells an
hour number two tomorrow, and we'll continue our conversations with
Jason Stevens as we learn about multi club ownership models
and everything that it entails. That's going to be at
the tail end of the show tomorrow. Then Wednesday. Right now,
it's going to be Tyler and hopefully the busiest man
of the Northeast, Dylan Butler, getting you ready for the

(03:26):
weekend as we start that movement. Then we'll lead into
what is going on on Thursday. We'll catch up with
Dan overnight on Wednesday our time, and then we'll get
ready for the week with the Power Hour of Nino
and Nico Friday, hopefully catch up with our friends from

(03:49):
Beyond Goals Metering, and we'll start our conversations once again
with our friends from Major League Soccer and Apple TV,
and we may even have a League's Cup update, post mortem,
whatever you want to call it, and then we'll get
into that and we'll see if we can get our
opposition research getting you ready for the Columbus match with

(04:09):
our friend Chris Dorian. So that is my quest to
try and track Chris down to have the discussions as
we start the push coming out of this international window.
So that's the rundown of the week, and it's going
to be a pretty busy week. If you do not
know or have not remembered or recalled Tomorrow night, your

(04:30):
presence is requested if you were in the northeastern section
of Atlanta, the eastern half of the city. Jason at
seven o'clock tomorrow night at the Woodruff Library in the
Joseph W. Jones Room is continuing his lecture series about
Atlanta being Soccer City USA. Tomorrow night it is going

(04:52):
to be Jason and Emery soccer coaches Sue Patberg and
Corey Griner. They're going to discuss Emery's role Alanta soccer
history and look at the teams from twenty twenty five
and look at their seasons. So it is going to
be atam Ore University tomorrow night, seven o'clock start time
in the Woodroff Library Building, the Joseph W. Jones Room,

(05:12):
Jason and his electure series continuing. So go and find
out about Emory's place in Atlanta. Soccer find out about
their teams heading into the twenty five season, which is
now underway. So Jason to Patburg Corey Griner Tomorrow, Emory University,
seven o'clock in the Joseph W. Jones Room in the

(05:34):
Woodrift Library Building. So go and we'll all be there.
So it'll be it'll be cool to a to see
everybody and b find out about what continues to build
is Atlanta is getting ready for the entire planet to
come here as a part of the World competition where
they're battling for a Cup in twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
So that'll be what we stare at there.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
It is that time where we get to kind of
hang out whether Buddy Abe Gordon and find out what's
going on. We'll ask Abe, I want to ask Abe.
We'll kind of start the discussion about the men's national
team because Soccer Satan didn't even wait. Soccer Satan posted
in our chat before we were even.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
On the air.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
That watch out abe, they waste no time Soccer statean
a like ten to nine was like potch out And
that was the thing he posted before we were fifteen
minutes on the year, fifteen minutes for a get out
and he's like, poach ten oh out, he's done.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
What tournament did they lose in?

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Is a friendly?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yes? That is correct?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Well, I just I don't know. It's like feels like
losing preseason games, like if you're gonna get fired, get
fired for something that matters. I understand the frustration. Everyone
wants to see their team look good. Certainly, I don't know,
like I'll I'll wait till it's a competitive atmosphere before
I panic. So that that's where I.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Stand, Okay, And so speaking of competitive atmospheres before you panic? Uh,
do we have an update on Young Way coup?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Uh? No, not officially, but unofficially. If if Arthur Blank's
Team one can help Team two in one certain way,
I'd be holding field goal practice if I were United
today and see what they could figure out, because I
don't know what the plan is there. But I don't

(07:35):
think Young Waykup can be your kicker moving forward. After
the variety of kicks, some that even went in yesterday,
you can't have confidence. You can't lose games because of that.
It's like sending a player out there in stoppage time
to hit a penalty kick. Any any misses frame entirely

(07:56):
that guy shouldn't be taking another penalty kick, right. That's
the city situation you have now for Young Waykup with
the Atlanta Falcons and the field goal kicking. So I
do expect them to bring someone else in. I think
he was only here because his salary is a little
bit more than you cared to part with at the time.
You gave him an opportunity to come back healthy from injury.
I still missed the kick.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Gotta go.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Now you're talking about, you know, guys losing their jobs
and Pokatino out, Young Waykup probably has to be out.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
It was a rough day yesterday for the field goal
kicking for Atlanti, for Land United, wow for the Falcons,
And it was part of my drive coming back from
South Georgia was listening to that game yesterday against Tampa,
so I had to I had to ask for the
Falcons fans here as we get ready for everything in
a new week in the National Football League and Lanti United.

(08:50):
Obviously you've got a lot of folks that are away
for the international window, and obviously that speaks very well
of United and their placement, whether it is with US,
with the us M and T and you've got a
lot of international duty. But you've got to get them
back here, and you're hoping that up that everybody on
flight aware is keeping track of everything because you've got

(09:12):
to get him back here. It's a big matchup against
Columbus on the weekend.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Yeah, and a couple of things here. Like it really
is crazy when we get to these international breaks and
I'm always in my mind, I'm always like, you know,
two or three guys are going out, and then I
look at the list, I'm like, oh, there's like nine names,
Like I always forget two or three guys. And then
you have some of the academies representing youth clubs and

(09:37):
here and there. It always like is it kind of
takes me by surprise how many guys really are part
of their national teams. And like you said, that is
a good thing. Sometimes it hurts you in the MLS season,
as guys get back. Look, I'll say this, I'm a
little less concerned about it because of where Lanty United is. Right,

(10:00):
It's not like you're fighting for a playoff spot, and
so if guys aren't able to give you, you know,
their regular minutes because of travel, because of international duty,
if that's gonna happen, I think probably this is the
year you're a little bit more okay with it than
in previous seasons where you really felt that it hurt
your your standing in one way or another. I think

(10:24):
we all want to close the season out strong, and
certainly you'll look to do that Saturday against Columbus, and
you gotta you know, we'll try and feel out if
you lost momentum over the course of the off week
coming off, but you had a really nice result there
in Nashville. You got another team that's gonna be fighting
for for top standing in the Eastern Conference coming in

(10:45):
and they're gonna do their thing, and we'll see. I
think you've you've stood up for yourself a little bit
over the past couple of weeks. Hasn't necessarily always gone
the way you've wanted, but I think you've showed that
you're still fighting, and I expect to show that fight
against Columbus at home. You've only got a couple of
home games left here the rest of the season. And look,

(11:09):
I know it's tough to still be locked in.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
College football has taken over Saturday. It's a huge week
in college football. You've got a ton of incredible matchups.
Is probably the biggest week of the season, potentially is
Week three. So you know, not gonna lie, I'm gonna
have some split screen action. You know, I'm gonna have
the game here in front of me at the press
box and then you know YouTube TV's four screen going

(11:34):
on here on the computer. Probably so, but but yeah,
I think it's still an opportunity to over the course.
It's not just this coming Saturday here, John and returning
from international. I think the next five have a many game,
five to six games, whatever. It is. Start to feel
good about yourself for a variety of reasons heading into
the offseason. Whether it's because of the new players, whether

(11:57):
it's because of a young goalie, whatever it is. Start
to feel good about yourself heading into the off season
with a little bit of optimism and so momentum. I
think you started that by getting your first road win
against a very good Nashville team, and I think you
can continue that potentially on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Columbus right now is in the street fight in the
East where right now they're in the seven, but they
have match in hand on the top four and they
also are but obviously messian friends. They have three matches
in hand or four depending on who you're talking to,
so they can make a rush up the table. Forty

(12:36):
six points for Columbus right now there at the seven.
Orlando is in fifth at forty seven points, Nashville is
at fifty, Charlotte is at fifty. So with a match
in hand, you could be really you could be the five,
chasing as you go. And it's another opportunity for where
Atlanta took on the number four team in the Eastern
Conference and shut them down. Now it's a chance to
take on a very very hesky, traditionally tough side in

(13:00):
Columbus and do the same thing, and you get to
do it at home for a change, instead of having
to do it on the road. Chasing after that first
win that you were talking about.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yeah, and if I remember correctly the game at lower
dot Com Field, Atlanta and I had had the better
of it for the first twenty minutes and then a
twenty minute stretch heading into halftime. Essentially you were down
three to nothing at that point and it was over
and I feel like I remember thinking, man, there's a

(13:28):
chance here or there Atlanta United could have taken a lead,
didn't and then got punished with three goals in twenty minutes.
And so it's one of those things where you know,
you look back at some of the issues you had
during that stretch and you just hope to avoid that.
And I think we've talked about this again over the
last month. When you have the chances, you have to

(13:48):
finish it. They've they've done a little bit better of
recent doing that, but also they've made it a little
bit tougher to score. I think me High has come
in since he joined the squad, has been very good
him in Steian gregorson pairing. We now got al Zat
in there as well, so looking forward to seeing a

(14:09):
little bit more of him. So a little bit of
things are different from the last time Atlanta and Columbus played,
and hopefully the result will show that.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yep, to your point, Marcelo Herrera scored in the twenty
third minute and Jason Russell Rowe had a brace in
ten and it was three mil to bring Brooks scored
in the fifty six to make it three to one.
Your lineup on that day was listed as a five
three to two, so take it as you wish. Brad
and Nett left to right back, five, Pedro, Luis, Ephren Morales,
Matt Edwards, Brooks, Lennon. Your midfielders on the day were

(14:41):
Mattea's Click, Bart, Sleish and Midanchuk and then you had
Miggy and Latte Lot in your five three.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
I mean four of those guys aren't even on the
team anymore. Gooz is obviously out of the starting lineup,
and we'll see how the rest suits up. So it
will have a much different feel at least from a
personnel standpoint for Atlanta United. So look forward to seeing that.
Also look forward to seeing who comes off the injury list,
if we're gonna get, you know, a full roster for

(15:10):
this one, or who's still limited. Obviously Jay Fortune we
know will be out, but is Matt Edwards any closer
to return? And are we limited at all up top
with striker?

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, And that's the that's the key when you're looking
at this turnover that we're seeing. You mentioned four that
we're no longer there. You had Noah cop come in
as a sub late, so that's live. So you had
to five guys of the sixteen that participated in this
match in late June that are no longer a part
of the discussion. And to your point about the new guys,

(15:44):
by the way, happy birthday Steven Elsatte. You've got a
healthy Stean gregorson which is something that we that has
been wanting at the back for Atlanta United, being paired
with an a me High and in me Hi, you've
already seen the leadership that he just exdudes, that the
aura of his that is there and seeing it with

(16:05):
the two of them, and then you mentioned alzat and
what he's able to do off of set pieces. Ronnie
Dila has been very very high on alzat as he
could be when he gets fit, and Ronnie Dila has
said he's not ninety minutes fit yet, that he could
be one of the best.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Midfielders in the league.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
And you know you're dropping that kind of praise on
Steven Alzatte, who you've brought in. I mean, that's a
great expectation and if that's the ceiling, then I want
to see what he looks like when he's ninety minutes
fit and what develops from here.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, And we talked about it over the past couple
of pregame shows, like who do we want to see
get in there? Or even in the postgame shows if
the lineup in pregame wasn't ideal for us, and Alzante
was the one guy, I was like, I want to
see this guy get in. And I know there's like
a handful of players in the discussion in midfield, especially
when Jay Fortune is there, especially you know Matt Edwards

(16:55):
can kind of go midfield and defense a little bit.
But you have influx, you had some guys, you had
young guy like Will Riley in the discussion, but al
Zate was the one I really wanted to see. And
to be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing more of Barakol
in certain situations too. I think he can be a
nice piece as well, especially off the bench as a

(17:16):
sub if you need maybe a little more attacking help
from from some of these guys in the back. So yeah,
I just think you know what you have right. There
are some of these guys who are just that guy's
the main stay. You know he's gonna be there. And
you're looking at Bartow's Sleish certainly in that discussion, along
with a couple of others. But for the midfield discussion,

(17:36):
we've got to find out who's pairing best with Sleish
and how it allows Sleish to potentially play differently, how
they maybe need to adjust their solid play to be
alongside Sleish and figure that out. And you got a
couple of games to do that now with a group
of midfielders before you head into the offseason and and
dial up your plan for next year. And so for me,

(17:57):
it's right now about finding out how and what works
best along outside Bartosleish. And I think al Zante got
his chance last game, and I would imagine we'll get
another one on Saturday night and I look forward to
seeing that. Obviously provided the loan assist in that game,
and it's performance is a lot more than just that
one in Swinger, but certainly look forward to seeing more

(18:18):
of it from him.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
And you know Columbus, with the gelatinous mass that Wilford
Nazi decides that it's like, okay, you guys, just you're
here and I'm gonna put a formation on a piece
of paper, and sure whistle blows and then everything just
goes all over the place. It's going to be It's
going to be a stern test. And what I mean
by that is that Wilford Nanci has center backs that

(18:43):
dive into the attack and no conscience whatsoever. If the
space is open and the guy is there, take it
and go. There's no fear for anyone jumping into the
play and engaging. I think it'll be an interesting matchup
with all of that activity coming from the back forward
for Columbus against the new folks that are here for
Atlanty United, and how do they respond. They're getting used

(19:05):
to that rhythm with being around each other, but going
up against this offense is an odd animal, and I
want to see how the communication is and how everybody
slots into place going up against a team like Columbus.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Well, look, it wasn't the prettiest attacking performance from Atlanta
United in their win against Nashville, but you also knew
what that team was offensively and how dangerous some of
their guys could be, specifically Insurge and Muktar, And I
think you handled them very well. And again it's been
you know, two full weeks now, it feels like since

(19:38):
that game was played. But don't forget Hibbert came up
huge in a couple of situations, one at the top
of the box against Surge, one from an angle against Muktar,
and I still find it funny the expression on Uktar's
face where he just didn't know what he has to
do to get it by this guy. And so I
do think you put up a nice defensive performance there

(19:59):
and again now coming against Columbus, you're gonna have to
do the same and everyone wants Atlanti and I did
it right going back to I mean, club's not that old,
but what we call the glory days to win games
in that style, and I just I think you want
to be a little hesitant to say we need to
be winning games three four goals at a time and

(20:20):
if it takes one nothing or or two nothing two
to one but a slightly tougher defense to crack, I
think you have to get comfortable with that. And I
think that's probably the plan, right. I think you brought
in as opposed to focusing on the attack and the
transfer window, you did focus defensively and even on the
defensive midfield. From an aspect of positioning, that tells you

(20:44):
something that that there's a style this team knows they
can and can't play right now. And because of some
of the issues attacking, you have to win games on
the other end of the ball. And I think they've
taken that approach and it certainly worked against Nashville. We'll
hope to get it to work against Columbus as well.
And you know, anytime the attack one of wakes up,
we would also certainly welcome that too.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Yes, for those following on flight aware, Poland's two national
team matches were Thursday and Sunday. It was a draw
with the Netherlands and then a three to one win
against Poland. So unless Bart's taken a day or two
just to kind of hang loose a little bit back home,

(21:24):
he should be heading back to this side of the
Atlantic in short order. And then we'll follow along and
see what it's like for Ronald Hernandez to come back
from Venezuela and Conmo Baal and all the other national
teams that are falling into place. All right, So hit
the promo and we'll talk about the weekend when we
get to the weekend.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
It's always great to see to kick off our week
by friend.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
Well, look, like we said, it is a football season
now and that still for the moment includes Atlanti and
I and so we're gonna be live on Sports Radio
ninety to nine game pregame starting at six point thirty,
kickoff shortly after seven thirty at Mercedes Benz Stadium against Columbus.
So looking forward to it on Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Yep, and we will all be there as we always are.
Did you what kind of roadwork did you put in
last week?

Speaker 2 (22:08):
I did?

Speaker 3 (22:08):
I did a five k yesterday, so so very happy
with the performance. My my adult soccer league starts today,
so I'm just trying not to get hurt out there.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
E Okay, you will you will give us updates with
that as well, because I know that Maddy will give
updates on her league when she has the opportunity.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Yes, yes, yes, I'm I'm thankfully finally being allowed to
run field this year as opposed to saving the team
in net. So I'm looking forward to it, all.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Right, my friend. Always great to see it a kick
off our week. We'll catch up with you soon.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
You got it, John?

Speaker 1 (22:35):
There goes Abe, and Abe is getting ready for Adult
Soccer League.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Oh goodness, we need video proof. We need video proof
of him out in the field. That's what we need.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
It's always great to start our week with Abe to
get you ready for everything going on with Columbus and
Atlanta United. And we'll see what else is on everybody's
mind as we go to start the week.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
David, Let's see.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Yeah, David mentioned that Sabagan a handful of minutes and
in the three mil win for Georgia. Hang on just
a second, let me see if they are done or
if they still have a match to go. Here in
the window, I'm sitting here looking at the World Championships

(23:20):
section of our friends at Odds Portal, and right now
we have some stuff going on in the calf and
so that's why I'm kind of sitting here going all right,
So what's going on? Three matches that started at nine
o'clock this morning, and it is Equatorial Guinea in Tunisia.
They are goalless Mozambique up one nil in Botswana and

(23:43):
Morocco up one nil on Zambia at the end of
their window. And I believe Morocco qualified with their win
on the weekend. So impossibly, let's see if the Georgian
national team as we sit here and look at their window,

(24:06):
so next fixtures are in October. Okay, so it was
once again Thursday Sunday for Georgia as well. Turkia had
a three to two win over Georgia back on Thursday,
goals from Davitashvili and Kavard Skelia.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
And you had let me check the lineup here, so.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
I'm trying to see where possibly so Saba was an
unused sub in match number one and David to your point,
in the win over Bulgaria, you had, let's see, Saba
came in for Da Vitashvili as a part of that

(24:54):
substitution pattern. So at the at Boris Pakadza Stadium in
in front of forty four thousand and seventy seven, Georgia
gets the win and they are second in their group Spain.
Right now after two matches they've won. Both Georgia and
Turkilla are one to oho to one and Bulgatia has

(25:15):
lost both matchups and they are in the bottom of
their group. Group A Slovakia. Slovakia leads winning their first
two Northern Ireland and Germany are one oh one. Luxembourg
at the bottom.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
Group B.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
Switzerland is the only team to have won knocking off Cosovo,
Sweden and Slovenia. They are the next go round in
this window and they are right now at one point
heading into match day two. Group C after one match day,
Greece right now has a win over Belarus. Denmark and
Scotland have the draw, so Greece three points, Denmark Scotland

(25:50):
one point.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Belarus is zero. Group D.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Iceland and France beat Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Was five nil
for Iceland over Azerbaijan, two nil for France over Ukraine.
Iceland ahead in Group D on goal difference. We mentioned Spain, Georgia,
Turkilla and Bulgaria. In Group B, Group F Portugal. With
one match day done, they are right now at three points.

(26:15):
Hungary and Ireland have one point with their two to
two draw. Armenia gave up the five to Portugal and
they're at the bottom.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Group G.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
It's five team group and they have blistered through their
match days. Right now the Netherlands in Poland Netherlands with
a match in hand. They are at ten points and
a plus eleven goal difference. Poland right now at ten
points five matches played, behind on goal difference. Finland is
at seven points, Lithuania is at three and Malta is
at two.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Group eight with five.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Teams it is a Bosnia Herzegovina they are at twelve points.
Austria is at nine with a match in hand, Romania
at six, Cyprus at three with one win, and San
Marino are friends from San Marino. Five matches played, they
have scored one goal. Group I five teams Norway at
twelve points through four matches, lead Israel with nine points,

(27:07):
Italy three matches played, six points, Estonia five matches and
three points, and Moldova is for four. Group J five teams.
North Macedonia is at eleven points five matches played. Belgium
match in hand with ten, Whales at ten but behind
well behind in goal difference. Kazakhstan has one win in

(27:28):
five Liechtenstein has no wins in five. They have given
up nineteen goals. Group K England kind of limped their
way through the win against and and Dora. They are
at four matches played, four wins, twelve points. Serbia is
three matches in match in hand seven points Albania at
five points, Latvia is at four and our friends from Andorra,

(27:49):
who I wore on Friday, I believe, are for five
and they've given up ten goals. Group L five teams
Chechia is at twelve points. Croatia has has only played
three matches nine points, Montenegro forur matches, six, Faroe Islands
for matches, one win, Gibraltar four matches and they have

(28:10):
given up sixteen goals and have only scored two. So
that is your European breakdown quickly, since we went down
that rabbit hole. And the short answer to a long question,
or the long answer to a short question, is that
Bart's window and Saba's window are over.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
And they should be heading back this way, and Abby
with a quick note, Saturday's match to resurgence. Okay, so
that means that I should packed my resurgence kit and
resurgence stuff, so I will certainly do that. Thank you
for that. All right.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Now, let's get to opening kickoff before we go to
dan Orlowitz's interview, and then we'll bring in Bart after
the top of the hour. All right, So opening kickoff
once again brought to his buy our friends at kickoff
Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com. Here is the QR
code starts your day, Kickoff Off Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco
dot Com. You hit that QR code, you dive in,

(29:05):
you buy out the store. We want you to do

fifteen percent discount. So you buy out the store and
you still get fifteen percent of your wallet back. They
internal take ten percent reinvested in the youth games, youth
initiatives brought to us by our friends at Kickoff Coffee
and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Now we seem to be in opening Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
We seem to be drifting down into Middle Georgia a lot,
and you know understandably so when you have the chaos
that is attached.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
So yesterday was it yesterday? Yeah, it was yesterday.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Jason had the double header for Mercer on the Mercer
University campus and the women's team got the big win
and you had an Icel Barber hat trick to get
you that win yesterday. So it was a big win
on the women's side. And so on Senior Day against

(30:09):
Gardner Webb. It was five nil and so it was
Mercer now improving to four and two Gardner Webb at
one five and one. It was three goals in the
first half for Mercer and two more in the second half.
They're getting ready for the matchup against Winthrop on Thursday,
so Morgan eikel Berger gets her first career hat trick
five nil. Win Mercer outshoots Gardner Web twenty eight thirteen,

(30:32):
fourteen to five on target. Hayden Lepli and freshman Kelsey Hinton.
Other goal scorers on the day. Lindsay Bell gets her
twentieth career clean sheet five saves in the match. The
first two goals for Ikele Barner come four minutes apart.
In the fourteenth minute, she gets her first second goal
basically almost from the same spot near the top of
the eighteen, making it to nil, get a third and

(30:54):
twenty seventh with the hint and goal, and then you
end up with uh with the Hinton shots. Sorry, Mikele Barner,
Ikele Barner, Hayden Lepley with the assist from Hinton. That
was your score at the break. Then Hinton scores in
the eighty second minute. Then Ikele Barner gets her hat
trick in the eighty fifth and that was your five
nail final.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
So that set up the night cap on the boy's side.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
And suffice to say, with number twenty two South Florida
coming to town with a record of two zero and
three going up against a mercer who was coming in
with a record of two to two and one, you
figured it was going to be a tight affair.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
We were not wrong. So you get a goal early
on in the match and it was a one nil
lead for South Florida. Let me check the box score
really quickly because I want to get this right. So

(31:56):
South Florida breaks the deadlock in the forty sixth and
then that was it for South Florida. So then you
are looking at basically a minute to go in regulation,
one nil down. Mercer is as you picture the match
in your mind's I going from right to left.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Here's what happened with under a minute to go, courtesy
of our friends at ESPN Plus and mercer Jason on
the call.

Speaker 5 (32:25):
I'm taking it to the corner, trying to find the
angle to cross. It's back to Tolu out of yemmy.
He beats one outa yimmy left footed cross a good
one to.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
The beats in go go.

Speaker 5 (32:39):
Go out of nothing totalu out of Jemmy miss hits
the cross, but it ends up off the far posting
en South Florida can't believe it. Tolu outa. Yemmy got
to the in line and hit a cross. You can

(33:01):
see charging on the back side is Ellison. That's who
he's trying to play it to. It ends up even
better off the far post and end on one with
forty one seconds to.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Play, once again courtesy of our friends at Mercer and
ESPN Plus. But when you thought the match was over,
it wasn't. Our friend J. C. Rivera, who were used
to seeing at var and Major League Soccer, was the
man in the middle. Here's how the match ended, once again,

(33:35):
courtesy of Mercer an ESPN Plus. Jason on the call.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
Nagar Ungo cuts in on the right foot, gets into
the eighteen Bozzy Son in the arc and there's.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Gonna be a free kick.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Late.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Rivero calls the.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Foul a free kick at yellow card shown.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
South Florida will have an opportunity to restore their lead
with the last play of the match.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
It was chaos at the top of the eighteen.

Speaker 5 (34:12):
I feel like I've said chaos five hundred times in
this match, but that's how it's been. Was cutting across
the top of the eighteen and the foul was called.
So South Florida is gonna get a free kick here
to win. It was not a clear situation there where

(34:36):
the penalty or the free kick was obvious. This is
outside the eighteen fifth. They took the last one and
skied it. He takes this one into the wall, off
the wall. It's a corner, but there's no time to
take it. That's gonna do it all, doesn't lie, I
guess in that whole situation. Mercer and South Florida finish

(35:03):
level one one.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
That was your final one to one, but Mercer had
to survive at the end. Tolowadi Yemmy gets the late
equalizer under a minute to go and they survive at
the tail end of it all assist to Ethan Manzela
his first Bryce Griffith getting the hockey assist there as well.
So Mercer hits the road trip to Colorado this week.
They take on Air Force on Thursday number fifteen Denver

(35:27):
on Sunday night. Mercer remaining undefeated at bets in twenty
twenty five two oh to two, outscoring their opponents seven
to Manzela and Griffith both getting their first assists. Manzilla,
a freshman, getting his first assist in his collegiate career. Griffith,
a transfer from South Carolina, gets his first collegiate assist
as well. So basically, what seems to be happening every

(35:47):
single time we are calling, and I mean we in
the sense of anybody here on the SDH roster that
anytime anything is going on at Mercer, it's crazy women's
side one night with Mercer in kinesas State Jason with
the number twenty two team in the country with South
Florida and Mercer scoring a late, late, late equalizer and

(36:09):
hanging on for the draw one one. So uh, I
guess the public service announcement here is this. If we
are calling your match, meaning any of us on the
SDH roster, just be ready for it. That's opening kickoff
broight to was buy our friends at Kickoff Coffee and
Kickoff Coffeeco dot com. Here's your QR code once again

(36:29):
for those of you who are watching on the video
side of things, you hit that QR code and we
encourage that you buy out store Kickoff Coffee and Kickoff
Coffeeco dot Com, then you get a fifteen percent discount
using soccer down here fifteen at checkout, then that they
in turn take ten percent reinvested as things that we
refer to as cool courtesy of our friends at Kickoff

(36:52):
Coffee and Kickoff Coffeeco dot Com. Now once again our
number two and because of the link of this interview,
Bart's probably going to be coming up at about ten
to ten. So last night late Dan Orlowitz has covered
soccer in Japan for about two decades. He's a Philly guy,
went over and we explained how he ended up there

(37:14):
and has stayed there for almost two decades. And for
any news, any insight on jay League national team, Dan
is the guy. So last night, late our time, which
was brunch time his time today thirteen hour time difference,
we caught up with Dan to find out about Tuesday

(37:38):
and the US men's national team's next match in Columbus
against Samurai Blue. After this we will go back into
the post mortem with Bart with the USM and T
in South Korea, So go ahead and line up your
comments in the twitch pitch. Here is Opposition Research on

(38:00):
the Japan national team, Dan Orlowitz dropping by the morning
show on SDHAM, and he's actually in Japan thirteen hours ahead.
Here's our talk and for the magic of videotape, or
at least that's what some folks my age would call it.
Just let's just say recording and thirteen hours Dan am

(38:23):
I right?

Speaker 6 (38:25):
That is correct, the full thirteen ahead.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
So Dan is thirteen ahead as we're talking. So obviously
he's already in his Monday as this plays early in
our morning show on our morning side of things, where
it will be very late night for Dan on Monday. Legitimately,
Dan is and this is not like a capricorn one
kind of a thing. You actually are in Japan. Yes,

(38:51):
how did that happen?

Speaker 7 (38:54):
I was an anime nerd in college and things got
out of hand. And it's been nineteen twenty, like twenty
one years since that start. I mean, basically, I tell
people I was going to The plan was to graduate,
go to language school for a couple of years, and
figure out the rest as I go along.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
And that was nineteen years ago.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
What has it been like for you to cover the
sport in the Far East slash from the Far East
over almost two decades now, I love it.

Speaker 7 (39:29):
I really played as a kid, but it's in Japan
that I fell in love with the club game. The
JA League is, in my opinion, one of the best
in the world, not just from the quality of play,
but just the culture of the community, the match day experience.
The business side is growing so rapidly in terms of

(39:49):
catching up to MLS and to Europe. In a lot
of ways, it's you know, you don't have a lot
of the issues that you have in other countries in
terms of some of the more toxic elements of the
fan culture, security issues, what have you.

Speaker 6 (40:05):
And the soccer is great.

Speaker 7 (40:07):
It's it's fun to watch, and it's exciting and it's unpredictable.
You know, you can I think we have half a
dozen teams within two points of each other in the
j one right now. You know, we have a proper
you know, home and away, most points wins, pro rel
I'm not going to drag into that, but it's you know,

(40:31):
it's an amazing league with amazing players, amazing teams, amazing fans,
and I have sort of emerged as one of the
people advocating for more fans across the world to pay
attention to it, and because I think that the Japanese
soccer absolutely deserves your attention.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
And where Atlanta United is concerned, where we are headquartered.
One of the one of the players that has been
brought in this year that is getting a lot of
time with the MLS next Pro side at Lanty ninety
two and has come in in spots, star arts and
has really shown for the first team as came in Togashi,
who has spent a time at Sagantosu, He's been at Sendai,

(41:08):
started off with Yokohama morenos What is your database on
a player like Toga Shi? What are we missing out
on from a history perspective.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
I mean, he's sort of you know, it's very cool
that he was born in New York. I mean he
could have represented the US in a different timeline. He
did represent Japan once or twice, I think in the
under twenty three is at the Tulon Tournament, you know,
which is famous for producing a lot of japan sort
of up and coming stars. And he was just sort

(41:39):
of a career Jay leaguer, never really stood out, but
you know in fits and starts, like I saw him
play a couple times over the course of covering the
league and one of those not quite a diamond in
the rough, but definitely a gem who you know, if
you can send him overseas and put him in an

(42:01):
environment like MLS, he can do things. You know, I
think there's a lot of you look at the number
of Japanese players who are going to Europe these days,
and I think there's well over one hundred Japanese players
in elite European competitions leagues. I'm talking like strong, first
and second and even sort of the second or third
tier of Japanese player who goes overseas, they can go

(42:24):
to MLS, they can go to the Championship or League
One in England, and they can actually account very well
for themselves. So I think Tobashi is a good example
of that in that you know, he is never going
to be a star, but he can be a good
role player, and he can. Japanese players aren't coming into

(42:48):
clubs with egos. They're ready to work hard and fit
into the system. I think of you know, just a
ton of the handful of Japanese players who have come
to MLS, like Kubo up in Cincinnati, and you know,
those players have always been great, you know, fan favorites

(43:08):
and hard workers, and that's what you want to see.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
See And without knowing what my notes were, Dan has
actually been looking at my notes as for most of
this conversation so far. At the end of this, I'm
going to ask for a couple of names that you
think right now that are in j league that would
fit really well just in Major League Soccer along the
lines that we were discussing just a second ago with
Toga she and Atlanta United. Okay, the main reason we

(43:31):
brought you on now that we have filibustered for a
good five minutes in the opening part of the segment
is that we have here at SDH we have opposition
research and usually we do it with it.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Land United and the team that they're playing.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
We try to pull a source in about the opposition
and try to figure out, Okay, what do folks need
to keep an eye on when it comes to who's
going to be playing at Land United this time around
with the second match in this window for the USM
and T, it is a matchup against Japan, and I
wanted to kind of get it give our folks an
education about Japan. As the Samurai as the Samurai Blue.

(44:05):
They have already made it in the World Cup. What
they're pacing is right now? Are they just fine tuning
heading into things since we have a nine months or
so before we actually are playing in competition. Heading into
this window, we had the matchup against Mexico on the
weekend at a great crowd at the Oakland Coliseum. Coming
into this window, were there any set expectations for what

(44:27):
these couple of matches were going to set out or
is it just kind of like, Okay, let's see where
we are, what are we doing here?

Speaker 6 (44:34):
Not set expectations in terms of the results.

Speaker 7 (44:37):
I think obviously Japanese fans do want to see wins
out of these games. Even a scoreless draw against Mexico
was largely seen as a positive. I think Japan had
the upper hand for large stretches of the match and
they didn't score. But Mexico are a very strong team
and they got a result. They got the job done

(44:58):
for Japan. These sort of pre World Cup friendlies are
definitely more about Jajume Moriasu, the head coach, settling in
on who he wants his final squad to be. I
think there's a lot of names that I can say, yeah,
they'll be on the flight, but there's still plenty of
other seats that can be filled, that will be filled

(45:18):
over these next few months. For the Japan Football Association,
this is a big logistical test, moving every you know,
moving everything to the States, doing a lot of traveling.
Morriasu had some very positive things to say about Oakland
and the preparations that they were able to do there.
It is painfully hot and humid in the Tokyo area,

(45:43):
you know, it's it's terrible. I don't know how the
weather is over there, but today I think it's a
high of We're getting a high of ninety one, ninety three,
ninety four something like that, and a bajillion percent humidity,
And so I think that the San Francisco area is
very a breadth of fresh air by comparison, and I

(46:05):
think Columbus will be pretty good for them as well.
So just figuring things out, because obviously part of the
World Cup and part of the challenge of this World
Cup is that you have to do a lot of traveling,
that you have to just move from city to city
with not a lot of time to prep So picking
your base camp, picking out how you're going to travel,

(46:26):
the timing, how you're getting the players to recover after
a match before flying back to wherever you're You know,
all of these things are important, and I think that
there's so much in terms of expectations on this Japan
team to finally break through to the quarterfinals that really
every step of the way is going to be really
closely scrutinized by the JFA as they make those preparations.

Speaker 1 (46:49):
You look at this group of if my math was correct,
twenty six that are here in this particular camp, and
there are some familiar names to the domestic fan here
in this hemisphere. You're looking at Watatu Indo on my
Toma that you're used to seeing out of the Premier League, Kamata, Takeikubo,
you're looking at trying to say, we've talked about Isamida,

(47:11):
We've got and that's just part of this roster. When
you look at this group of twenty six, there are
some familiar faces, but who do we really need to
have in the spots shadow with this group going forward
as you're getting ready for the World Cup.

Speaker 6 (47:26):
So you know you've named a lot of sort of
the stars.

Speaker 7 (47:29):
I mean, I think that casual fans will be familiar
with a lot of Japanese players because they're playing in
Europe and they're playing for elite clubs, and even players
who aren't really for league clubs. I mean takumimin Amino
at Monaco, June Ito over in Belgium, Rita Dolon moved
to or Frankfurt this summer, So those are sort of

(47:50):
your established names. I think you've got Isa Leida who's
at Fanord and he's sort of one of the key
attacking figures you're you know you've got. But in this squad,
in particularly, it is worth noting that there's a lot
of injuries and injury related absences. Hid Masata, the central midfielder,
he plays in Portugal. He's out for this UH this window.

(48:15):
UH Bayron defender he's still recovering from an injury he
picked up over in the spring. I believe it was
that he hasn't quite recovered from uh Tomiyasu, who just
got let go from Arsenal, he's working on on rehabit.
So there's there's a lot of fringe players in this squad,
and by fringe, I'm talking about players with ten or

(48:36):
fewer caps. Joel Chima Fujita who moved to Saint Pauli
this summer. You know Cokiogawa, you know Saada is still
sort of relatively untested, well I shouldn't say untested, but undertested.
Yoshi Watanabe who moved to Feyanor this summer, who's sort

(48:56):
of a dark horse, really interesting pick or defense. I
think he's accounting for himself really well so far in
this break. So you've got tons of players. I mean,
that's the The thing about Japan is that our A
team is in Europe, our B team is in Europe,
our C team is in Europe. So and quite frankly,
I think that that even the B team would have
done pretty well against Mexico, and even the B team

(49:19):
would probably beat the US, which is what we're about
to get to.

Speaker 1 (49:22):
H Yeah, and when the United States took it on
the chin again and after you on the show this morning,
we have Bark Keeler, who is part of our network.
He's our lead US guy with the soccer for us
PO D and I've I you know, he's not he's

(49:42):
not in the channel, he's not in the waiting room
or anything. He's not in the green room.

Speaker 2 (49:46):
White to come on.

Speaker 1 (49:47):
I can hear him screaming bloody murder already. He's not
logged in. I can hear him from his place here.

Speaker 6 (49:55):
He's not gonna come out from behind me with a
steel chair.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
No, no, no, no, he he would probably go chasing
after several individuals on the national team with steel chairs
and try to figure out, you know, how to to
you know, make an impact that way. The frustration for
fans and a lot of folks in and around the
US M and T, especially after yet another loss and

(50:20):
now they get to go up against Japan coming up
here in short order?

Speaker 2 (50:26):
What is the vibe there about the US squad?

Speaker 1 (50:30):
Is this something where they're sitting there going, man, we
really can you know, sit there, we can we can
get a good we can get a good win here
against one of the hosts coming up in the in
the World Cup. What is Morriasu saying anything? Is anybody
saying anything? Are they just kind of sitting there and
no selling it leading into the matchup?

Speaker 3 (50:48):
Right?

Speaker 7 (50:48):
You know Japan culturally is you're not going to see
coaches going out there and giving the other team.

Speaker 6 (50:58):
Some you know, no lotterial no.

Speaker 7 (51:03):
Quotes, you know, especially not MORRIIASU. But you know, I
think that from Japan's perspective, having this window be against
two World Cup co hosts, you know, so it is
it does speak of you know, they do want to
get good results out of this, because I think it
does send a message if you're going and beating and

(51:23):
getting results against the hosts. And let's not forget me
in Mexico and the US are top twenty FIFA teams.
I don't know exactly where they are in the standing
roundund but you know, Japan are also in the top twenties.
So being able to get that result and potentially help
Japan solidify its place in Pot two, I think Pop

(51:46):
one is out of reach, but Pot two is still
probably gonna happen. We'll see how you a fish shakes out.
That's key, And yeah, I think it would if you
beat the US like much like Japan did three years
ago in Germany. You know, I think that that gives
the fans a bit of confidence. That gives the squad
a bit of confidence, especially going into our October friendlies

(52:09):
against Paraguay and Brazil, who will be very tough opponents.

Speaker 6 (52:12):
And I mean both of those games are going to
be in Japan.

Speaker 7 (52:16):
But you know, I think if you look at how
the Japanese media is reporting this, even as far as
the US South Korea Game, nobody sent writers there. They
mostly just took you know, they watched the recording and
took quotes from the athletic and all that stuff like.
That's sort of the Japanese media. I think US media
tends to try to focus on everything, which because the

(52:37):
US media is big enough to focus on everything, Japanese
media mainly focus on Japan and they might, you know,
the occasional freelance writer might do, might go and try
to report on future opponents, but for the most part,
they're focused on, you know, our squad of twenty six
and what they're.

Speaker 1 (52:54):
Doing losers of two in a row. Mexico right now,
the US is fifty losing two in a row. Mexico
has one three of four, and heading into right now
they're at thirteen. So Mexico at thirteen, USA at fifteen,
and Japan right now at seventeen. So that's what you're
looking at in this particular. The only reason I know

(53:14):
that is because I went to ffifa's website and I'm like, oh, okay,
so I'm going to get the rankings really quickly while
you're talking, uh, stylistically when it comes to this matchup,
and just in general, when folks are looking at what
Moriasu is putting out onto the field, how would you
describe what they do stylistically in the attack and in defense.

Speaker 6 (53:35):
So this cycle has seen Moriasu switch.

Speaker 7 (53:39):
I mean we Japan had been on a four back
system for the longest time and Moriaso has been had
been toying with a three back system during the last cycle,
and in this cycle Leave sort of transitioned to that
full ya.

Speaker 6 (53:50):
So three four to two to one.

Speaker 7 (53:52):
You can call it five back if that's what you're into,
but generally it's we accepted this three back and very
yeah dynamic. I think if you look at who we
have available at midfield and a forward, you know, these
aren't players who are sort of meant to press for
eighty minutes and sneak in a goal on the counter attack.

(54:13):
These are players who are very good at setting each
you know it, stringing the ball together, lots of passing,
you know, lots of good assertive movement towards the goal,
lots of movement up the wings. You know, Junior Yuto
is a beast on the right and Mitima is similarly
nasty on the left, Like he can just do things
and you know you've got I mean, Mida is one

(54:37):
of Japan's probably the Japan's hardest working box the box
player period. Nobody, nobody, arguably no one in Europe has
his stamina. He's just you know, he can he can
just go for ninety minutes and he'll still be doing
laps after the game. So you know, you look at
how they played against Mexico. They pressed really assertively, they

(54:59):
were able to also attack for long periods of time.

Speaker 6 (55:02):
They were able to mostly shut Mexico down.

Speaker 7 (55:05):
Yeah, I mean it was maybe that's that's going a
bit far, like it was a fairly even game if
you look at the stats and look at the score lines.
But I think I think Japan accounted for themselves very well.
And if you look at how the US played against
South Korea, I think that you're going to see a
much stronger performance from this Japan side. At least that's
what we're expecting. Although with the asterisk that it really

(55:28):
depends on what squad, what lineup Mordiosca puts out. Is
he going to go with the starters who I think
that the Mexico. The starters against Mexico were closer to
the first. You know, the A team of this squad, is.

Speaker 6 (55:40):
He going to rotate? Don't know, but you know, we'll see.

Speaker 7 (55:45):
And I think it if you look at who's in
this squad, it doesn't really matter who Marriiaso puts out
like they should be able to put something together and
if they don't, then we'll see some changes in October.

Speaker 1 (55:57):
I was going to ask what your what your gut
was you with this particular matchup, and I'm gonna go
quickly and just stare at the starting lineup and we'll
figure out the uh So. The starting lineup was a
Suzuki in net and they have it listed as basically
a three four two one Seko Watanabi Itakura and then

(56:17):
the four midfield it was my Toma, Kamata Endo and
the Dawn and then you had Minamino, Kubo and Uda
as your attack up top and substitutions. Itakura lasted for
sixty I think.

Speaker 7 (56:34):
He got a knock, so we'll see maybe Sikena covers
from him in this game. I am not one hundred
percent up on his status. But yeah, it was interesting
that most of the I don't mean to cut you off,
just interesting that most of the substitutions for Japan were
on the attacking side, bringing on Mida, bringing on Yuo Suzuki,

(56:55):
bringing on Juni Ito, Like, these are not players that
you bring on if you're trying to like stable the
ship's defensively. These are players you bring on if you're trying.

Speaker 6 (57:04):
To go for the kill.

Speaker 1 (57:06):
And so let's see, it was Kamada went sixty nine,
men Amino went sixty nine, Kubo went sixty nine, so
it was a triple sub with about twenty to go,
and with about ten to go, Mytoma out, Duan out,
Suzuki and Machino in. Okay, so you got most of
the folks playing most of the minutes. And I guess
it just comes down to what you want to do.

(57:27):
If you sit there and you sense that you can,
if you are Japan, that you can get after the
United States and continue to have the fan of the
United States men's national team pull out what's left of
their hair after what happened on the weekend, then I
mean shoot, line them up seat It's like, okay, how

(57:49):
many minutes. Can you give me go ahead and we'll
knock it out and we'll see what happens. I mean
that that to me seems like you know, if you
sense a week US squad, then you go after it
and you come up with a result. You can sit
there and say, Okay, we've gone up against Mexico, we've
gone up against the United States, we have a draw here,
we've traveled three time zones, we've gotten whatever the result
is here. I mean I could see it to your point. Yet,

(58:12):
do you want to rotate depending on what the physios
tell you, or do you want to try to chase
a result? I mean it will be an interesting chess
match to figure out what that lineup is going to
look like. But I could sense it chasing after a
weekend US M and T squad.

Speaker 2 (58:26):
And yes I did just use air quotes.

Speaker 7 (58:28):
If you look at the squad that took down the
US three years ago, I mean a lot of those
players are still in this squad.

Speaker 6 (58:35):
I mean Mida was in there, Comata was in there.

Speaker 7 (58:39):
You know, there's a lot of rotation, sort of a
lot of changing of the guard after that last World Cup.
But you know there's there's gonna be a lot of
familiar faces in a way, and maybe not in the
good way because I think that you know, US fans
will remember how Japan did dominate that game start to finish.
I mean, that was no contest, and you know it
is up to the fans who go out to Columbus

(59:01):
to turn it into an intimidating atmosphere as much as
they can. But going back to talking about preparations for
the World Cup, that's also the kind of thing that
Japan needs. This national team is not really used to
going to unfamiliar places and being you know, being mooed
by forty thousand people, you know, like they like they
were in Oakland. I think that it's you don't get

(59:23):
to play against Mexican fans every day. You don't get
to play against US fans every day. And yes, they
can go to Indonesia, they can go to Saudi Arabia,
and you know it is a hostile environment in bunny quotes,
but you know, I think we all agree that a
full pro Mexico stadium hits a little different, and you

(59:44):
know that's not at the national team level when you're
playing when you're used to playing friendlies in Tokyo to
sixty thousand adoring fans. That's not something that you're used
to in that context, and I think it is important
that the players learn how to be able to play
that context.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Eight successive World Cup coming up first. Quality was back
in ninety eight, exited the group stage after three straight losses.
But they have really come on and they have become
a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
Last question for you, and this is for you to
go into your to your J league data bank and
do some advanced scouting for the rest of us over
here who follow Major League Soccer, who do you think

(01:00:23):
out of the J league currently playing right now? Should
directors of player personnel be chasing after it to be like,
you know, dude, you sit there and you're going like this,
It's like, no, get this guy, he'd really do well
in Major League Soccer. Who who in your scouting reports
would be that guy that you're kind of pointing at
but not you know, Look, I mean.

Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
To be honest, it's really hard to point you know,
from from my perspective of like who would if if
a Japanese player is good enough to play in MLS,
they're probably going to want to play in Europe, and
that's sort of that that that's that's that's the challenge.
So I have like sort of set expectations for like, well,
if they're going to play in the US, you need

(01:01:05):
a compelling reason for them to want to play in
the US. And so I look at like Takaoka in
Vancouver and how he just had this amazing I want
to say, career revival, but like he's doing it wonderful.
He's doing wonderfully there. And that's a case where if
you're a foreign, if you're a Japanese goalkeeper and you're

(01:01:27):
looking to sort of step up in an environment that
could challenge you a bit more than the Jay League,
does you know? I think that it's it's so hard
for Japanese goalkeepers to get good to Europe and get
playing time. So I mean I was saying, if you're
kse k Osako, and you know, maybe he's probably happy

(01:01:48):
at San Freshi Hiroshima and he's I know he is
in this US squad, I don't know, or in this
Japan squad, I don't know if he's going to get
any time on Tuesday. But if you get a good
offer from an MLS club that it's going to guarantee
you the starting spot, you maybe think about it. You know,
it depends on where I think if you're looking at
if you're looking at players who are in their very
late twenties or early thirties, they want that one last

(01:02:11):
overseas challenge. I think of Hiroki Sakai, who was you know,
a very decorated right back for Japan, played in Marseille
for ages, came back, played for Rawa, then went to
Auckland City or Auckland f C, whatever the whatever the

(01:02:33):
A League club is, you know, and they made him
captain pretty much and like he led them to a
really strong result in the A League. So that's the
sort of profile that you want. And I think that yes,
it's good to go after younger players like I think
Pogashi is a great example of that, but like Maya
Yoshida at LA Galaxy, that's the profile that you want.

(01:02:53):
Like look at you know, Yoshinori Muto is and Yyo
Osako or getting paid a ton of money at Thistle
Kobe and I'm sure they're pretty happy there, but like
them in the in the MLS, absolutely, you know, I
think that that's the level and I think that MLS
has a problem in that they've done zero promotion of

(01:03:17):
their Japanese players here in Japan. And I think that
the big problem with that is that Apple TV Plus
is not advertising the season pass at all, even though
Messi is arguably one of the most famous players in
this country. Right. So I don't know if you know,
there's no signing that's going to change that, but I
think that there's you know, you look at who's coming

(01:03:39):
out of here, You look at who's going to Europe,
who's going to these smaller Belgian and German and you know,
Portuguese clubs, and you can look I think that MLS
teams can look at them and say like, hey, why
aren't we making a pass at some of them and
seeing what they say, Because when you have over one
hundred players in Europe, all of them are going to

(01:04:00):
make it to the national team level, you know, not
all of them are going to get their big Bundesliga signing.
So I think that you can also look at the
Japanese players in Europe and be a bit strategic and
if things aren't working out, try to approach them.

Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
All right, hit the promo for me.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
I love the fact that we were able to catch
up and give folks an education getting ready for the
Japanese national team, a japan national team and the us
M and T. Go ahead and hit the promo and
where folks can follow you and all the great stuff
that you're doing over there.

Speaker 7 (01:04:28):
I got it right below my name. I mainly post
on Blue Sky. I write for whoever will pay me
to write for them, so that could be you or
that you know, if you're watching, I you know I've
covered the J League and Japanese hokker culture for close to.

Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
Eighteen nineteen years.

Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
You know, you know my name.

Speaker 6 (01:04:50):
You've seen me on these shows, You've heard me on podcasts.
I love you know, I love the game here.

Speaker 7 (01:04:58):
I think I've tried to uplift the community because we
have an amazing grassroots community of English language writers, reporters,
podcasters who are trying to shed some light on the
j League. We've got a really exciting twenty twenty six
coming up, not just with the World Cup, but also
we're switching to the fall spring schedule, so there's going

(01:05:23):
to be that special competition next spring to service sort
of the transition season, and that's going to be super fun.
I think they're basically packing an entire year's worth of
Derby's into four.

Speaker 6 (01:05:36):
Months, so that's going to be awesome. And then you know,
you see the fall spring new.

Speaker 7 (01:05:42):
Challenges, and hopefully that comes off the back of getting
through the Round of sixteen and getting into the quarters.
So we'll see how that goes. But you know, watch
Japanese soccer, Watch Japanese women's soccer. All you and WSL fans.
I'm sure you're loving all the players who are coming
through mm hm, and you know, watch Japanese sports.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
We have fun over here, no doubt about it. And
that's why we dialed you up.

Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
You weren't too far off when we were talking ahead
of time when we both admitted that we were prone
to tangent. But just be safe, my friend. You now
have you know where the key is under the mat,
You know where the garage door opener is. So if
there's anything that you want to come on and talk about,
the platform is yours. Just sit there and knock on
the door and go Yo, Nelson, we got we got

(01:06:28):
a hook up. I got something to talk about, especially
as we go into the World Tournament nine months from now.
You know, we're going to be banging on your door, Dana.

Speaker 6 (01:06:36):
Absolutely, I appreciate you having me on.

Speaker 7 (01:06:38):
Hey, maybe we'll do a post mortem of the game
in a few days before I get swallowed up by
the World Athletics Championships which are here starting Saturdays.

Speaker 6 (01:06:48):
So yeah, you know, thank you for having me on again,
thank you to everyone for watching.

Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
And yeah, there we go. It's a Monday.

Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
That's conversation with the Dana Orlowitz and Dan will be back.
We're going to tape again on Wednesday night, which will
be Thursday morning his time, which will be when it
airs our time, so thirteen hour time difference, and we'll
take a peek at what goes on with the matchup
on Wednesday. And so now that we are in our
number two, and I imagine that this particular individual is

(01:07:25):
how do we phrase fairly fired up about what happened
on the weekend. Time to bring in Bart Keeler from
the soccer for USPOD. Bart, We've got grades to get into,
we've got the numbers to walk through, we've got our
opposition research from Dan getting ready for the matchup with
Japan on Tuesday. I imagine that there were a lot

(01:07:47):
of how do I phrase unattractive emojis? That probably carried
their way through a lot of conversations after what happened
with South Korea. So am I far off in my congressation.

Speaker 4 (01:08:01):
I think we skip past the emojis and went straight
to expletives gentlemen. That was a disappointing and just straight
up disheartening performance from the usmn T. I think the
biggest I guess the biggest emotion after that game was

(01:08:21):
confusion because we don't know what the hell is going
on right now, and you're paying big bucks to a
guy who's supposedly a good manager, and he is screwing
up every possible thing that involves player management and player's
election right now. He's ousted several players who are, in

(01:08:44):
many people's opinions, really good players. Doesn't feel the need
to pull them in at least, and it's bringing in
guys who anyone could tell you isn't up to the
international level. I'm not saying they're bad players, and we'll
get into it, but there's a difference between being really
good at MLS and being influential on the international scale.

(01:09:06):
You know that that seems to be an issue right now.
John we don't know what exactly this team is and
what it can do, which is really disappointing.

Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Question was raised in the discord, and I will and
what I will do is I will somewhat qualify it
with the one lineup of lineups that the US M
and T should have.

Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
We don't know what that is. Well, okay, well, and
that that's the problem right now, John, So sorry to
preempt you. The problem is I think we think we
know who are best eleven players on should be on
the field. We think we know that, Okay, But we
have a manager right now who says, well, that guy
doesn't give it as much effort as I personally feel
like he should be giving. So I'm gonna call on

(01:09:54):
a guy who isn't good, but you know what, he
works hard in practice despite not being actually useful in
a gain. And that's what we're stuck with.

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
The question in the discord was.

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
Would this team qualify for the twenty six World Championship
where you're chasing after a cup? Would they qualify for
this tournament if there, if it was in another country
and there was no such thing as the automatic qualifier,
would they qualify for the World Cup?

Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Do you again, John defined this team because we don't
have Weston McKinney, which he gave his reasons, but he's
good at giving excuses. John, Sorry to bring up that word.
I know Jason hates that word, but at this point
we're reaching excuse level with this manager because everything it

(01:10:46):
needs an excuse with this dude. We don't have enough
fans in the stands, or you know, the players don't
care enough, or or some line he's gonna give us
that we don't know. We don't know, John, because we're
not sure what po Schettino thinks is his best player pool.
And so the reality is, and we can talk about

(01:11:08):
coaches all we want, but players matter, players as he
I mean, he's right. Players score the goals, players defend
the goals, and he keeps putting out subpar players, and
it goes, well, it's the fans for not being in
the stands. Why aren't they here to support us as
we're asked to watch, you know, players who are very
clearly not our best players. They're not stars to be

(01:11:30):
just frank. And when you continue to put a guy
out like and he was fine on Saturday, but who
continue to put guys out like Max Arson and Sebastian Burholter,
and you go, this is what's going to carry us
to the World Cup. That's just asking that. It's just
disrespectful at this point. And so that's the problem we have, John,

(01:11:51):
is we don't know. I could tell you who I
think are best eleven are that doesn't matter because the
dude making the call in the shots doesn't like that
one dude one time maybe went dolphing.

Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Paul Kennedy in his breakdown of the whole thing, he
has it laid out.

Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
The one thing is evident about Pochettino's roster selections is
that he has no clue who among the sixty to
sixty five players he says his staff is following he'll
take to the World Cup. Nothing matters until the USA
opens World Cup on June twelve. At so far, which
is a huge problem. Asked after the two nil loss
to South Korea, when it becomes important for the USM
and T to get wins to build trust and confidence,

(01:12:36):
Pochettino responded, we need to start to win when the
World Cup starts, pointed to the many examples of teams
that excelled in the years leading up to the World Cup,
flopped in the finals. He was part of Bielsa's much
fancied Argentina team dominated the two World Cup qualifying in
South America, but exited the group stage in Japan. Quoting
once again Kennedy, everything Pochettino says is true. USA could

(01:12:57):
lose every game it plays before he must pick his
team before heading off to prepare for the World Cup,
not out of the roma possibility, and it will be
the same as if it wins every game. A interview
with Mike Wyitala, Bruce Arena said, the qualifying competition really
grows your team to find out who can play and
who can really deal with the pressure and everything else.
Quote so that was Bruce Arena to Wititala. Kennedy says,

(01:13:20):
what the loss to South Korea and Harrison drove home
is that the lack of urgency is killing the m
and T both sides of the ball. No sense that
plays had to be made, as if the USA depended
on them to go to the World Cup or the
the players own chances of making the World Cup team
depended on making plays. So you are in You are

(01:13:41):
in the Kennedy camp. Obviously, with what Paul wrote in
his column, coming out of that two zero loss.

Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
Yeah, I mean I think he yes. In theory, John,
nothing matters until June twenty twenty six and that ball
kicks off for them, the world championship of a cup
of a sport. Yes, but you should look like you
can do the damn thing before then. It period. It's

(01:14:12):
the same people who every year try to tell me
the Falcons are gonna be good despite them losing every
preseason game. You gotta look like you can do it,
and right now this team looks incapable of doing basic
things like pressing in a coordinated fashion. They don't. Sorry,
we gotta we gotta move the microphone away. You get
coordinated fashion, don't.

Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
We don't.

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
We don't press well, which is supposed to be a
hallmark of a Blista system. And I know Pochaccino is
probably the I think, the furthest from that and in
terms of what he does. But like, you still gotta press.
There were most of it. When you know South Korea
took a goal kick and we could press high. We
we created nothing else out of that. We don't defend it.

(01:14:58):
A blow block well, we get harped up easily. We
got defenders out there who are eighty goddamn seven years old? Wow, sorry,
we got we got old guys out there trying to
cover for a dude who isn't good enough to play
on the international level. We got a guy who's not
good enough to play on the international level covering for
a guy who can't beat a turtle in a race?

Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
Like, what are we doing?

Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
And that's the issue than I have, John, If you're
truly trying to evaluate Tristan Blackman, well, I'm just gonna
focus on him for a second.

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Apologies.

Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
I don't think he was terrible the entire game. I
think I think he was mostly just okay. The problem
is he's playing next to a dude who shouldn't be
on this starting line, but he continues just pretending like, oh,
you got a battle for a position? Why does Tim
Reen get every single start as if he is beholden

(01:15:56):
because of his age to the starting lineup. And so
if you're even trying to evaluate players, you're not giving
them the proper platform on what's to evaluate. You're sending
up bad experiments.

Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
So then to follow your Tim Reim example, who.

Speaker 4 (01:16:16):
Was bad, I'm sorry he was the worst. He was
the second worst player on the field on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
Uh, well, we'll get into the numbers. Then the numbers
for me anyway, Yeah, the numbers are different, but not
by much. So if so, all right, So then in
a perfect world, So like perfect world, I mean we're
taking we're taking the current head coach out of the discussion.

(01:16:41):
What would your center back pairing be?

Speaker 4 (01:16:46):
Well, I'd love for it to be Chris Richards and
Mark McKenzie. I think that gives you the most balance
of athletics ability, soccer ability, technical ball skills. Now I
conceide that Mark McKenzie hasn't decided to grab this spot
and that, and that is a problem. But again, to me,

(01:17:07):
the obvious answers. You have a guy, you have Chris Richards,
and everyone else is trying to play next to Chris Richards.
So again that goes to my evaluation. Right, you're setting
up a bad experiment. The experiment should be Chris Richards
is the control. Why Tim Riem is the control? I
have no idea. This makes no sense in my brain.

(01:17:28):
I'm not a scientist, but I know how to set
up a dang experiment. I took fourth grade science class.

Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
Yeah, I was an ips or in high school. You know, yeah,
I was not an advanced well, I was awful at
it was science.

Speaker 4 (01:17:42):
Science and math are not my advanced classes.

Speaker 8 (01:17:47):
Issue is.

Speaker 4 (01:17:50):
Why are we not trying out who works best with
Chris Richards, who is indefatigably right now the best performing
player under Mauricio Pochaccino. But yet we're and I understand
he was hurt. Okay, sure again another frickin' excuse. Well,
we couldn't do it, because what are we doing here?

(01:18:11):
I just don't the plan and the plan doesn't make sense.
And I think the real issue comes back to this
underlying feeling that I have with this man is that
he isn't He is not taking this job seriously. He
tries to gaslight us and say, well, Americans don't take
soccer seriously. The fans don't care enough, the players don't
take it all. Bro, you aren't taking it seriously. With

(01:18:36):
your squad selection, with your lineup selection, you're not taking
it seriously. And you have to understand that this country
hosts a World Cup in nine months, two hundred and
seventy five days, I think right now, and this team
looks incapable of winning a game against anyone who's halfway decent,

(01:18:57):
and the stats bear that out, especially under this man tenure.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
All right, so we have, in a perfect world your
center back pairing, who's your left who's your starting left
back in a four three three.

Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
Well it's Jedi Jedi Robinson, and right back.

Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
As Gina Dust Okay, midfield as Adams, all things being equal,
Like you said, give me, give me Adams, but.

Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
He had a terrible game on Saturday. Ideally it would
probably be Adams McKenny Raina. Okay, I think would be
what I would want the most. I think that gives
you a lot of what you would want to do.
I could, I could see I actually would like to see.
And again this is experiment. For some reason, we can't

(01:19:40):
possibly conduct Adams and Johnny play together to see how
they actually play with each other. But I think from
what we know and what we've seen, I would say
it's Adams, McKinney and Raina. And people are gonna sound
off in the comments. I'm sorry, Doug ruin your great
weekend with your daughter's weddings, But I would start to
you right at the wor World Cup.

Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
So then up front and your front three would be
polisic Way and that.

Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
Is that Anlegan I think. I think Flaren Balagan full
of Balligon proved on Saturday that he's probably our best striker.
Now that I would love to have Ricardo Peppy and
Flaren Valagan in camp competing with each other. But I
still think Balagan is a better striker full time than
Ricardo Peppy. But both of those guys I think are

(01:20:27):
our starting quality.

Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
Yeoman's Son scores in the eighteenth dong Jeong Lee scores
in the forty third in front of a crowd of
twenty six five. Apparently there was dynamic pricing, or at
least a lack of a desire for US M and
T fans to pay what was on the board to
go see a matchup in the swamps of Jersey, So
no real surprise, there were a lot of South Korean

(01:20:50):
fans that went and watched this match. Pricing and venues
is another thing that is probably a separate segment for us.
On another run down, you had the starting lineup Matt Freeze.
Is he your number one keeper in your mind?

Speaker 7 (01:21:06):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
No, I'm sorry. He hasn't proven anything. He really hasn't.
He's been fine.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
He just.

Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
He's just fine. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
So then I don't know who the starter is. I
think Keeper Camp, then Turner, I mean.

Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
Turner and Freezer there. I don't know if it's Stephan
is there. I would like to have seen him a
little bit more, just to see if he His return
to MLS and playing a lot would have helped, But
I don't know about that. Shulty just I like Shulty
a lot. I don't think he's there yet. I don't

(01:21:56):
think Celentano is. I mean, I think Selental is decent.
I don't think he's It's not Chris Brady, it's not
I don't think it's Jonathan Clensman. Now that said, if
you tell me that Celentano or Cleansman start on Tuesday,
you know, tomorrow, I think that would be great. Actually,
I think trying to experiment in that regard would be fine.
I don't again, I don't think Matt Freeze has taken
the job as his Outside of the penalty shootout against

(01:22:20):
Costa Rica, I don't think he's been particularly that's our guy.
But Turner also hasn't, and I think that is that
is where you shift the focus on the players, John,
And this is a great position to talk about it.
No one said I want to be the starter come
June what twelfth, fourteenth, twenty twenty six, No one, No

(01:22:42):
one has said that in a lot of positions, and
that that is another issue. Goalkeeper is definitely one of them.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Matt Freees given a four by the way from our
friends at Soccer America.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
Yeah, he didn't look good. I'll give him slight pass that,
you know. I don't think the goals are necessarily his fault.
The second one probably was. I don't think it needs
to come out like that, But there are a lot
of as I'll always say for every goalkeeper as a
member of the Goalkeeper Union, a lot of bad things
have to happen for a ball to get to a goalkeeper.

(01:23:15):
And if you're taking shots inside the penalty area and
you have more than two guys on marked, I'm gonna
I don't think that's the goalkeeper's fault, John. But he
does concede two goals and he has some bad moments
in passing, and yeah, it wasn't great. Again not good,
And there needs to now be accountability because you binched
Matt Turner for a bad game four and now lost

(01:23:38):
to Switzerland with a much worse lineup. In front of
so I am curious what that accountability standard will be for.

Speaker 1 (01:23:45):
Matt Freeze, back Line, Start Desk, Blackman, Reem and Max Arsten.
I know, and we'll pull Max Arsten to the side
because since day one of his call ups, you have
not been a Max Arsten fan.

Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
I don't think he's a left back. That's just that's
my summary on Matt's Arson.

Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
Desk punch to five, Tristan Blackman was given Get this.
I cannot remember the last time anyone got a two.
Boy Tala gave Blackman a two?

Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
Mm hm, what did Tim Mariam get?

Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
Tim Reim got a four, Max got a three.

Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
I would flip Blackman and Red. I thought Blackman was
mostly okay. The problem is, I think moving up to
the international level is tough, and we have seen black
men come out for camps before, and I think that's
what's annoying about this call up. Now John is just
to be and I'll extrapolate this to the roll Don

(01:24:46):
conversation when we talk about him. It's not that I
don't think Tristan Blackman is a good or bad defender.
I think if you watch him in MLS, you go
it's pretty darn good center back. He does not extrapolate
his skills, He does not take his skills and transfer
them to the international game. Well that doesn't mean he's bad, right, Look,

(01:25:06):
I think I'm a pretty darn good goalkeeper and sons
of pitches until we move up a division and all
of a sudden people are faster than I am. So
that's that's kind of the thing is is I don't
want to sound like we're dumping on these guys because
that that makes them sound like they're not good at soccer.
They absolutely are, but they're just not at this level.

(01:25:29):
And we've seen that from Tristan Blackman. So again, that's
why the call up for me was just so what
are we doing? And you know, but look, you got
to see him. Pashaccino said he liked what he saw
from him. I don't know if that's a obligatory, like, hey,
I don't want to like dump on you or you know,
make it feel bad. I just want to make sure

(01:25:50):
that you feel like you did all right. I do
think he was better than Tim Riem, who was not
good at the things we needed him to be good at,
which he's supposed to be the dude who can pass
the ball and he had a He had a worse
day passing than Tristan Blackman.

Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
Jarrett joins us from the Mountain time zone here on
a Monday. He probably heard you Bart yelling without even
having the show queued up. We are, Jarrett hip deep
in the discussion about the men's national team and what
happened on the weekend, and Bart, obviously is how do

(01:26:27):
we phrase this less than pleased?

Speaker 8 (01:26:29):
You weren't having a bad Bart had a bad weekend.

Speaker 4 (01:26:32):
I'm talking about him. There is only one power for
a team that lost to a GRIP of five conference team,
only one, Darret, only one.

Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
Yes the discussion about going to Athens, Ohio the week
before back.

Speaker 4 (01:26:48):
I'm so glad that athletic director is no longer directing
our athletics.

Speaker 9 (01:26:53):
Well, not to grudge you any anger or property destruction
you partake, especially as a WPU, Gret, I feel like
you're God given right.

Speaker 6 (01:27:04):
So there's that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 9 (01:27:08):
Anyway, I didn't watch the national team, but I want
I saw enough of what happened to go huh that's uh,
it's g Jurgen was in the crowd too great, this
is this is going swimmingly. Meanwhile, Greg Urhalter is gonna
take Chicago to the playoffs.

Speaker 7 (01:27:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
Do you think Jurgen Klemsman was given that sweet or
do you think he paid for it from the checks
he's still catching from both of these federations.

Speaker 9 (01:27:39):
I kind of hope he's paying for it with the
Jasis getting from multiple federations. Yeah, and I just I
kind of think it's like a I kind of hope
he like got it off seat geek too, you know,
off a discount pennies on the dollar, not not that,
not that you can afford anything going to a US

(01:28:00):
men's national team game, not that it is an affordable
experience for most people. God forbid, we make it affordable
for the average fan to go to a game, and
god forbid a game in New York not be a
South Korea home game.

Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
All lucid points from jareded Smith in the Mountain time
zone this morning. The we mentioned the back line, not
a whole lot of high grades. Legitimately, all four starters
totaled fourteen according to way Talam. Midfield starters Weya, Burhalter, Polisic, Adams, Luna,

(01:28:41):
and so. I guess he's looking at it as as
you know, four to five one weya a three burrhalter
and Polisic fours Tyler Adams of five Diego Luna A six.

Speaker 4 (01:28:55):
Adam's got A five.

Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
Provided valuable help for the back line as deep as
in the penalty airs. Deep as as deep as in
the penalty area, stealing the ball from Jay Sung Lee
in the fourth minute, blocking Taysok Lee's cross from the
edge of the penalty area at the beginning of the
second half. Also joined the back line for innocuous passing.
When attempting a boulder delivery over the Korean defense, he overhit.

Speaker 2 (01:29:18):
He got he.

Speaker 4 (01:29:22):
Read those numbers back to me, John, Sure you broke him?

Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
John, I know it well.

Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
Look to give you to give you early thought on that, Jared,
he was broken well before that moment because it was
uh he earned us the E for today with with
a with two words that we have in I think
in the eight years of the show have not had
uttered on the program. Uh waya A three burrhalter and

(01:29:51):
polisic fours Tyler Adams of five Diego Luna six. Tyler
Adams provided valuable help for the back line as deep
as in the penalty area, stealing the ball from Jay
Sung Lee in the fourth blocking Taysok Lee's cross from
the edge of the penalty area. In the forty sixth,
he also joined the back line for innocuous passing when

(01:30:14):
attempting a boulder delivery over the Korean defancy over hit is.

Speaker 4 (01:30:21):
Yes, is what Tala from the Hudson River Valley is.
That why he is bolstering Tyler like, I don't understand that.
To say that Tyler Adams was our best midfield midfielder
on Saturday is as delusional as Murcio Pochettino telling us
that we played better than South Korea. That is an

(01:30:44):
absolutely false statement from Wayitala and I am sorry. You
can say, oh, well, he recovered the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
He was bad.

Speaker 4 (01:30:52):
He broke our shape multiple times. He's part of the
reason why we were carved up so easily because he
was not defensively sound in his position and screwed up
a lot of our pressing triggers because he just decided
to be Tyler Adams a superhero. So you can say
he had ball recoveries. Not really he if you look
at the stats, he had zero defensive actions like three

(01:31:15):
recoveries and like two tackles for a defensive midfielder.

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
No, he was bad.

Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
Sorry, sorry, Mike, you are wrong. Tyler Adams was worse
than Sebastian Burholter, and that is scary to say.

Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
Sebastian Burholter was part of a US midfield that played
slowly when compared to the Koreans and with less precision.
Burholter pounced on Menja Kim's bad pass and shot from
twenty six flew well within reach of keeper Jon Woujo.
Burholter created a Chris Richards chance with a well delivered
free kick, but also mishit passes.

Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
And that got him a lot of passes. So did
Tyler Adams.

Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
That got him a four.

Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
Uh so Diego Luna, who got the highest grade in
the midfield, got active and the latter part of the
first half sparked one of the USA's few swift counter attacks.
One two with Polisic looked promising until politics first touch
failed him. Luna also fed Polisic for a forty seventh
minute shot that flew high. Referee Rion Raddicks ignored Jinq
Kim grabbing Polisics arm. Chris pass sent Tim Way in

(01:32:17):
the lethal territory way. His pass went to minj Kimmitt
near the Korean goal area. So basically not a lot
of stuff to talk about for the midfield. And you're
one forward listed as Josh Sergeant got a three. Yeah,
never got a delivery he could shoot from, exited after
sixty two, still looking for his first US goal since
twenty nineteen.

Speaker 4 (01:32:38):
No, I mean, look, not a good showing for Josh Sergeant.
You can talk about, yes, he didn't get delivery, but
you also as a striker, have to put yourself in
spots that players can deliver to you.

Speaker 8 (01:32:54):
Are we talking about the US Spec team or Atlanta? Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:32:59):
Yeah, And I'll continue by saying, and your striker also
needs to do a better job of leading the pressing triggers.
Talking about Jared.

Speaker 8 (01:33:12):
No no a bit this morning.

Speaker 4 (01:33:18):
I'm not gonna sit here and say Josh Sargent never
deserves a look ever again. But I think it's just,
unfortunately for him, very clear that again, whatever he does
at the club level doesn't translate to the national team level.
It just doesn't. And yes, he hasn't scored since twenty nineteen.
That it's a long time, John, Yes, a long time,

(01:33:39):
and he hasn't not had opportunities for a double. You know,
he was the starter during the World Cup, didn't score
you know, he just I know he's been injured a lot,
but he's also had a lot of opportunities. And again,
if we want accountability, if you want people to actually
look at the performances on the field and make decisions,
can't justify ever bringing Josh Sargent back until you know,

(01:34:01):
maybe you look at him for the twenty thirty cycle.
I don't know, but he scores a whole lot for
his club teams. He doesn't score a whole lot for
the us.

Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
N and T subs.

Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
On the day Christian rolled on, Alex Freeman Chris Richards
each got five's, along with Alex Sendjas and Jack McGlenn.
Flarin Baligan got a seven from Wyitala, while Sirgenia destin
Fer and Floren Balagan, previously unavailable because of injury, made
their first appearances under Pochettino. The players with the most

(01:34:32):
appearances under the Argentine coach are now Tim Riem of thirteen,
Diego Luna with twelve, Max Arson and Jack McGlenn each
with eleven. Heading into Columbus tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (01:34:47):
That makes me sad.

Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
John five shots the four, go ahead, Jarrett.

Speaker 9 (01:34:54):
I have this this sick feeling that not unlike Jung Waiku,
who he said Young Wayku in Atlanta, his best years
under Arthur Smith's little nepo I'm smarter than you regime.
And now Young Waycup is broken. Uh Man's change is
kicking stands like three times in the last year. He's

(01:35:14):
he's broken. He needs he needs, he needs a darkness
retreat of his own. And I wish him nothing but
the best, but he's broken. I also feel I fear
in a similar way that the US men's national team
missed the boat on make taking the most advantage of

(01:35:35):
Tim Rain's late career abilities in the last four years
where he was really good. He was really good at
the World Cup, he was good before and after, and
father time remains undefeated. And I fear that we are
approaching the uh approaching that into the parabola that does

(01:35:58):
a ninety degree.

Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
Drop with Tim Reid, Yes, Bell curve, yeah, and all
of that stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:36:05):
I think, and I think that is the problem that
he has thirteen.

Speaker 1 (01:36:09):
Look, but how much I'm going to I'm going to
ask this question because I'll play Devil's advocate for a second. Okay,
nine months to go before you're chasing after a cup
with the rest of the world in twenty twenty six.
How much of this is trying to figure out spots

(01:36:33):
twelve through twenty six as opposed to spots one through eleven.

Speaker 4 (01:36:37):
Well, he doesn't have spots one through eleven figured out
that we can tell. And that again is probab because
his words are saying there are lots of guys who
you know, need to work harder. They're not dedicated enough
for X, Y and Z. Excuse that he's given to
not call in what unfortunately, whether you want to believe

(01:36:57):
it or not, are the best players West mccannon, Unice Mussa.
These guys are better than anything else we have right now.
Johnny Cardos, I understand he's not great for his national team,
but at his club level he's he's pretty darn't good.
You know, there are guys who are just better. Mark
McKenzie is just a better soccer player.

Speaker 1 (01:37:19):
And that's why I have and that's why I raised
the question because of those individuals that you know.

Speaker 4 (01:37:25):
That we are nine months out. I would like to
have those guys in this camp to work together to
build some sort of chemistry, because that's the other problem
is we have zero chemistry heading it. Because while yes,
a lot of these guys have played together, right, I
mean Adams McKinney musa polistic way of those were the
guys during the you know, second half of World Cup,

(01:37:47):
qualifying in the World Cup, and the guys who helped
us win you know, three straight Nations League titles, but
they also don't have chemistry together in this system. It's
slightly different. It's not a whole lot of different, but
it is. It is different, and it's just good to
play with each other, you know, when you're leading up

(01:38:09):
to a tournament. I mean, that's again that's kind of
my issue. So I understand what you're trying to say, John,
is like, we know are starting eleven. I think the
fear is we don't know that, and we probably should
have a good idea who if you at least starting eight,
is you know, who are eight guys of year eleven?
Should be probably sold right now? I mean I think

(01:38:31):
it's fair to say that you know, do I know
which attacking midfielder is going to play? Probably not? Do
I know which player is starting next to Chris Richards?
Not really? And goalkeeper is obviously a question. Okay, fine,
And so you're right, maybe we're wasting time in this

(01:38:51):
camp to find who can be players mill through twenty
six orever many they bring, you.

Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
Know through twenty six if you if you're I'll stipulate
to your eight with the questions of center back, keeper
and up top.

Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
But I would say that we I still think we
have a good fifteen guys that we know as fans.
We can see based on what they do for their
club and then what they have done in the national
team in the very recent history, that there are guys
who probably are in that first twelve to fifteen and

(01:39:29):
then so yes, we need to find the next eleven
players to fill out the roster. Okay, fine, why weren't
Why are we? It doesn't make sense to me to
call in guys fully branded, you know, have so many
guys who are on the fringes into a camp like this,

(01:39:51):
because to me, the question should be how do they
work with the players who we know are gonna be there?
And again you're calling up I mean Sean Zawatski. You
you follow him up and he didn't even play him. Yeah,
if you need to try him out, why isn't he
getting tryout?

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
You know what?

Speaker 4 (01:40:12):
Instead, we got more Tim Mareen, we got more of
Tyler Adams, We've got more of Sebastian Burhalter.

Speaker 8 (01:40:16):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:40:18):
So again, if your thought process here, if your research question,
John is who are those next guys on the squad?
But yet you're starting eleven was outside of Tristan Blackman
and maybe Josh Sargant, guys who Poscaccino has seen and
knows of, I mean, Sergina does. Maybe you need just

(01:40:40):
needed to see him because he's been hurt. Like, it's
not like you had an experimental eleven. You had Tristan
Blackman as your experiment and Josh Sargent maybe as your experiment,
depending on how you want to look at it. So
I understand your point, but I would even say that's
not even seeming to be the goal here, because he's
not actually doing any experimentation unless he thinks that, you know,

(01:41:01):
he didn't like it what he saw in training, in
which case I would say, well then why did you
bring him in it? All you needed was half a
week of training camp to go. Now, this guy's not it.

Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
Shots on the day seventeen to four, all four on target.

Speaker 1 (01:41:15):
For South Korea, five on target for the United States,
five saves for South Korea, two four man freeze, nine
corner six to the US, twelve fouls eight to the US,
and one off side on the day. So the ar
has kept their flags down most of the time, possession
to the US at fifty four percent. So as we
have looked at this, I know that you, because of

(01:41:39):
everything else that you've been talking about, you wanted to
You wanted to mention Christian Roaldan.

Speaker 2 (01:41:43):
I believe was that another talking point here.

Speaker 4 (01:41:47):
Look, it's fair to say that the team looked a
little bit better with Christian Rodan in there. I think
we need to say that because, you know, as Jarrett
loves to remind me, my praise needs to be as
loud as my criticism or whatever that quote is. He
was better than Adams or Borr Halter. I think we

(01:42:08):
need to be a little bit more reserved and tempered
in our praise in that though, because he was better
than bad.

Speaker 8 (01:42:18):
Says more about them than it does him.

Speaker 4 (01:42:22):
I exactly. I think that's you know, he's fine, Jared.
I'm not going to tell you Christian Rodan's bad soccer player.

Speaker 9 (01:42:30):
No, I'm not gonna But I'm also not going to
tell you he needs to be the guy who's a
game changer on the national team.

Speaker 4 (01:42:36):
Oh Like, I don't like that, and I think he
is a solid player, but.

Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
He he he.

Speaker 9 (01:42:44):
If he is the guy who was coming in and
making everything work for me, then I have to look
down at the end of the bench and ask my
guys who are supposed to be better, who are supposed
to be game changers, what are you doing?

Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
What you doing?

Speaker 9 (01:43:04):
Because that guy who is limited, I think at this
point of his career, is coming out here and making
things work better than you are when you're supposed to
be entering your prime.

Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
What you're doing?

Speaker 8 (01:43:23):
So no, I do not disagree with you at all.
And I like Roldan.

Speaker 9 (01:43:29):
He shouldn't be the guy who is making things work
while my guys who are supposed to be key guys
are failing to do just that.

Speaker 8 (01:43:39):
I will fully support you on this.

Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
You head into the matchup now with Japan on Tuesday, yikes? Well,
and now is it reserve of starting you see rotation?
How much.

Speaker 1 (01:44:04):
How much stability do you have from one lineup to
the next or you just anticipating more analysis?

Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
What are you looking at bart for the matchup coming
up here on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Other than by staring at your face here on the
video side of things, you're not all that wholly optimistic.

Speaker 4 (01:44:25):
I'm looking at Pochettino's track record in non competitive friendly windows,
so not the Nation's League's those two right, and even
if you want to look at that the Nation's League
window from March in October, we had a pretty strong
squad against Panama for the first game, took a very

(01:44:46):
depleted squad down to Mexico and got beat. Skip ahead
to that March window in the Nation's League. Obviously put
out your best what he felt was his best eleven
against Panama in the Nation's League semifinal we got beat.
I think rightfully he rotated a bit for the third
place match because you know, whether we like to admit

(01:45:09):
it or not, they don't really mean all that much.
June comes around, I think he plays what he thinks
is his best eleven against Turkey. We have a We lose,
but it looks okay with a guy up, you know,
a squad that is not very high ceiling anyway because
of the nature of what he've called in. And then
he rotates the heck out of it and we lose

(01:45:31):
four to nothing against Switzerland. So my concern is John he.

Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
Will rotate to rotate, He'll rotate the heck out of
it again on Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (01:45:41):
I don't know if he'll rotate the heck out of
it because I don't think the I guess the Switzerland
match wasn't super super rotated, but like rotated enough, right,
there were some substantial changes.

Speaker 6 (01:45:54):
That said.

Speaker 4 (01:45:54):
I think rotation is good, right. Like I said, I
kind of would like to see someone not named Matt
Freeze starting goal. I just want to see it again.
I don't think Matt Freeze is that I'm the number one,
you know. I would like to see a center back rotation, right.
If Chris Richards is healthy enough to start, start him,

(01:46:14):
maybe you start Blackman next to Richards. I don't know
if I would approve of that, but at least I
could go, yeah, put put them next to the guy
you can run. That would be nice, you know. But
I would like to see Noahai Banks play. I think
if you brought them all this way, you should try
to play him, you know, do you do you? I

(01:46:35):
don't think way up was as bad as the numbers say,
for a number of reasons, but you know, maybe you
see time to start Alex and Dejas give him a
chance to prove that he can do it from a
starting position and not just from a off the bench.
So that I'm not saying rotation is bad, right, I mean,
wouldn't shock me if Christian role Don starts tomorrow. But

(01:46:58):
the problem continues to be that this roster's ceiling is
still low, so it's floor.

Speaker 5 (01:47:05):
And.

Speaker 4 (01:47:07):
That rotation to guys who are in theory weaker compared
to what you in theory put out your best lineup
against South Korea outside of I think a couple obvious
like experiments, that doesn't signal to me that we're going
to have a better game against Japan, a team who

(01:47:28):
is better than us in multiple facets, if not all
of them. So I don't expect a whole lot. I'm sorry,
I just don't. I mean, I think that the pattern
has played out. And again I don't necessarily say the
result of a friendly does not matter. The performance individually

(01:47:51):
and collectively matters. If you have lost to niddle South
Korea because Sun hit a worldy free kick and you know,
oh darn, you know you were pressing for a goal
in the second half and they nipped one after all
the subs were made. Fine, but Pastaccino is dead wrong.
We were not better than South Korea on that. We

(01:48:14):
may have played better than them for like twenty five minutes.
The game is ninety minutes long, and they were better
than us for the other sixty five and so that's
just my concern is you're going to play a better team,
probably with a slightly rotated lineup. To me, that that
doesn't equal a recipe for success. Again, results don't matter

(01:48:37):
in friendlies, but performances do. And if you're truly trying
to make these experiments in fact finding missions, my concern
is we won't even be able to learn anything from
the friendly.

Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
JAREDT.

Speaker 1 (01:48:50):
What do you think about what's going to be facing
the USM and T at the Death Star on Tuesday?

Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
What are you looking for?

Speaker 9 (01:49:00):
Japan's gonna press the shit out of you, because this
new era of Japan is not like a sit and
be methodical. They are going to use their athleticism. They're
going to press you. How do you respond to that
because this team, and you know you could hardly this

(01:49:22):
conversation is the local team your local team, not my
local team. You are missing a certain amount of sum
bitch in the roster. You are missing guys who when
the game is over, no matter what the score line is.

(01:49:42):
To Bart's point, you know, if it's two nil and
you get a world and you getting itpped to the end,
you know, trying to tie you you go into the
I'd rather lose two nils than and then not try
and make it one one that happens.

Speaker 8 (01:49:54):
But no matter the result, at the very least traditionally,
what this team did is they made you.

Speaker 9 (01:50:05):
It made it miserable to play against them, like the
other team walked off that field even if they won.

Speaker 8 (01:50:09):
And when that was not fun, none of that was enjoyable.

Speaker 9 (01:50:14):
Like it's kind of like playing Iowa or in football,
or like some editions of Utah where it's like it's
just not gonna be No one's gonna enjoy this. It's
gonna be physical, it's gonna be hard, you're not gonna
have a chance to breathe. But you have to be

(01:50:35):
the one to bring that as the roster.

Speaker 8 (01:50:40):
And it's missing. You ask what I'm looking for. I
want to see you want to.

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Go ahead on No, I'm just gonna say you want
to see Christian roll done with some some bitch.

Speaker 9 (01:50:58):
No, because you know why, Because I know Christian Roddon
has that. I've watched him in Seattle for a decade.

Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
I know he has that.

Speaker 9 (01:51:08):
Christian rowdin is not my question. Christian Roldan's a great
depth piece. And if I'm up to one late in
the game and I'm like, hey, my guys are gas
and i need somebody who's gonna like help stabilize the
ship and keep guys mentally locked in, then Christian Rodon.

Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
Is my guy for that.

Speaker 9 (01:51:27):
But I'm asking my posh tattooed millionaires to be the
ones to have that sum bitch in them because right
now they don't consistently. I have to amend that because yeah,
sometimes they're gonna come out and show it, whether it's
club love or what is national team whatever, sometimes they're
gonna show it, but not consistently, and I need that.

Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
That was my biggest complaint, like overall complaint from from Saturday,
like internally watching this game, talk about that you gotta
have some some bench. Christian Polistics spent all summer making
this soap opera, a documentary about himself and complaining about

(01:52:13):
Oh well, people just don't understand I need a rest.
And I'm not saying but where was the you didn't
want to come back and be like, let me prove
to every single person that what I my decisions this
summer are going to make me a better US M
and T player? Where was that his freak kick? Oh

(01:52:35):
my good lord, Oh my lord, that was so bad.

Speaker 9 (01:52:40):
And I went to like the old national team players
of yesteryear and their cluse eye hypocritical bullshit, you'll justified
and everything I say that, because yeah, like they'll sit
there and tell you that, you know, these guys don't
like These new guys don't like being criticized as they're soft.

(01:53:01):
Oh yes, But also anyone who spits a bad word
about some of the former national team players, they clutch
their pearls faster and anybody you've ever.

Speaker 8 (01:53:10):
Seen don't give me that hypocritical bullshit.

Speaker 9 (01:53:13):
Y'all are just as soft at this point of your careers,
and you're falling into the same damn trap that older
players fell into when you were young, of complaining about
everything and calling everybody soft in the second you get
called out on it and called to the carpet or
criticized or challenged on it. You grip your pearls and
you act like somebody just you know, through septic water

(01:53:34):
on your kitchen floor. So miss me with that bullshit,
and miss me with the internal arguing between former players.
I don't give a shit what your legacy is with
the national team. Miss me with the constant bicker ring.
And we're tearing each other down, whether it is former
legends or guys who had one cap with the national team,

(01:53:55):
and current guys, whether they have one cap or twenty
with the national team, Quit tearing shot. They're down, for
God's sakes, just so you can get five hundred more likes.

Speaker 8 (01:54:05):
It's not that important. What is more important is.

Speaker 9 (01:54:09):
The fact you have a World Cup in nine months
and you don't look prepared, and all you have is
infighting and people who feel like their star might be
fading deciding they need their star to stick around just
a little bit longer, so they're gonna take the podshots
at you, and then you're gonna take him.

Speaker 8 (01:54:25):
Back, and it's just this cycle of suck.

Speaker 10 (01:54:31):
Everyone take a walk, man, Jared was, I'm so tired
of listening to the angst and half this young roster
listening to the cure.

Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
Yeah, it's hard.

Speaker 8 (01:54:51):
You're playing a hard schedule, like we went over this
during the Club World Cup. Like you got guys who
are playing a lot of games a year.

Speaker 10 (01:54:57):
I get it.

Speaker 8 (01:55:00):
And yeah, did policy need a break? He really might have.

Speaker 9 (01:55:04):
He's always been prone to injury, played a lot. He
got his break, But when you came back, I needed
more from you. And getting into this pissing contest with
veteran players who used to play for the national team
but don't anymore but are building a media career for
themselves doesn't help you. It doesn't help anybody. It doesn't

(01:55:25):
help the national team. All it does is give somebody
a bunch of clicks on social media. Yeah, and no
one is benefiting from this little cat fight in fighting
bullshit that is constant in the US soccer atmosphere.

Speaker 8 (01:55:47):
Jesus, what I'm looking for.

Speaker 9 (01:55:49):
I want to see how many times, hopefully future MLS
star dyes in Maida runs right past somebody like Japanese
Tito is gonna just start boat racing people in the
sixty fifth minute this week, and that'll be I will.

Speaker 8 (01:56:06):
That's what he is, like, It's a dude, does so does.

Speaker 9 (01:56:11):
He tried to leave Celtic this window, and Celtic refuse
to let him go because they're too cheap and lazy
to actually go out and buy players, which is how
they lost in the Champions League playoff round. And you
know in Kazakhstan, he they refuse to let him go,
So he's gonna go in the January window. Somebody go

(01:56:34):
grab this left winger who literally does not ever run
out of gas.

Speaker 2 (01:56:39):
And is that where yeah mm hm to.

Speaker 4 (01:56:44):
MLS, I would love it.

Speaker 9 (01:56:49):
He also has that quality where he's so damn fast
and he presses so damn hard, he creates more chances
than he probably should, so the conversion rate isn't this
high as you want it to be. I would love it,
but you're probably gonna get priced out by a team
in Germany. If I had to guess, I would be

(01:57:11):
tickled though. Also, I think he's twenty six years old.
Twenty seven years old, so a prime age player plays
on the left wing. H scored like thirty goals last year.

Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
Yeah, subtle hintsane, Yeah, subtle hits from Jared Smith. Let's see,
so is.

Speaker 8 (01:57:32):
Gonna press the shit out of you?

Speaker 9 (01:57:33):
It's it's gonna be brutal, not to say the score
line is gonna be brutal, but playing them is gonna
be tough because you're gonna want the ball in Japan
is going to take personal offense to that.

Speaker 8 (01:57:43):
What are you gonna show me.

Speaker 1 (01:57:46):
Days and Meida is twenty seven turns twenty eight October
twenty To answer your question, sir, so that that's he's got.

Speaker 4 (01:57:54):
A contract lot before he truly feels about thinks about
coming down less in my opinion, So.

Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
After this, after this window it is two in October,
within the five day period, Ecuador at Q two on
October ten, Australia at Dix on October fourteenth in Commerce City, Colorado,
then two and four days in November, Padaguay at Chester
on November fifteen, Uruguay in Tampa on November eighteen, Bart.

Speaker 4 (01:58:26):
And John, I'm gonna just kind of wrap it up
with this, is that we are getting a good slate
of friendlies if you even include the Turkey and Switzerland match,
like I will credit US Soccer for getting good opponents
in these friendlies. So when we're not playing our best
teams against teams that are going to the World Cup,

(01:58:48):
that feels like a missed opportunity to really test and
to really learn and to take those lessons and improve.
And that's again just where I'm I'm just so frustrated
because I didn't learn anything that can help us at
the twenty twenty six World Cup. Thing, possible tournament, thing
that may or may not exist, sorry, whatever we.

Speaker 2 (01:59:08):
Have to call it.

Speaker 4 (01:59:09):
Yes, I don't learn anything that can help us June
twenty twenty six. And I think that John is the
concern stuff. I'm looking at you at the Japan match.
Give me a lesson or two that I can go, Oh,
this is something that we can use to improve. Come
June twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
Soccer for USPOD. What's the rundown?

Speaker 4 (01:59:31):
We will see. I am traveling for work this week
because not that I have a real job, but I
am assisting my father with his job. We'll see how
that goes. I'll be in Hoover, Alabama, where John's favorite
football coach ever.

Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
Made his namesake, right, and yes, absolutely.

Speaker 7 (01:59:52):
So.

Speaker 4 (01:59:52):
I'll be there through Wednesday, so if I get back
in time, we might be able to record. And then Thursday, John,
I'm hopping on a plane to fly up to Pittsburgh
to then drive down to Morgantown over a game on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:00:03):
Yes, Bart will be busy this week.

Speaker 4 (02:00:05):
I'll be traveling a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
Bart.

Speaker 1 (02:00:06):
We'll have a backyard brawl and a front yard fervor
in Hoover. So just be safe, my friend, have fun
and you, You and Jarrett definitely uh set the bar
this morning. I will say that when it came to you,
I apologize. Look, it's a morning show and we posted
with an here. Yeah, so we posted with an E

(02:00:29):
and then folks can listen and uh comment at their
own peril. As always, Just be safe, my friend. We'll
catch up with you soon. And like I said, just
be safe on the ground, be safe in the air.
We'll catch up with you. We'll catch up with you
on the flip side by y'all. There goes Bart. All right,
couple of the news things before we get out of here. Uh,
Premier League and Manchester City have reached a settlement in

(02:00:53):
relation to the Associated Party Transaction rules. Parties have agreed
to terminate proceedings as a part of the settlement. Manchester
City the accepts that the current APT rules are valid
and binding, and so we might even get into that
conversation with our friend Jason Stevens. Jason, we were set
to discuss for this week's multi Club Ownership Master's class,

(02:01:20):
moving Sideways with all of your money, blue Cos, hold Codes,
all those kinds of things. Remember at the end of
last week I showed you the graphic of the twenty
two companies that Chelsea has that are a part of
Blue Coos hold Codes and their Christmas Tree. So we
can add Man City and Apt to that discussion.

Speaker 2 (02:01:40):
That'll be taped today and we will talk and that
will be posted tomorrow on all of the platforms. Other stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:01:48):
This morning, once again from our friend Ben Jacobs, the
I N I C unequivocally reject their words two preliminary
approaches to buy Spurs Lewis Family and Sis Spurs is
not for sale. Amanda Stavely and fire Hawk Holdings must
both issue statements confirming intent by October five, and there
are denials of any kind of Katari interest. The article

(02:02:12):
at Give Me Sports by Ben Jacobs this coming in
the overnight. Two approaches to buy the eighty seven percent
stake following the departure of Daniel Levy, Amanda Staveley's PCP
International Finance and a consortium called fire Hawk Holdings Limited,
loved by doctor Roger Kennedy, and Wing Fight Ng both
made initial outreach to buy Spurs last week, but in

(02:02:32):
a statement North Londoners both say both preliminary expressions of
interest were unequivocally rejected a statement from Spurs. Staveley and
Firehawk are now both obligated under UK takeover rules to
make a statement by October five, regardless of whether they
intend to bet or not. Stavey is expected to release
her statement eminently confirmation she won't proceed, although there may

(02:02:54):
be caveats. If she confirms she has no plans to
place an offer, Staveley cannot change her position for six
month months. Sources close to the Lewis family insist Spurs
is not for sale and once again Joe Lewis and
his family on the majority of NIC thirty percent like
twenty nine percent and change with Daniel Levy and his family.

(02:03:15):
Levy's departure means Lewis family are now taking a more
hands on role in running Spurs. Lewis's children Charlie and Vivienne,
are particularly involved, as is his grandson in law Nick Buscher,
who is the co chief executive of Tavistock, new non
exec Chair Peter Charrington, Chief Exec vn I Van Katisham
are viewed as the key and most influential day to
day figures. Charrington has already held selver meetings with staff

(02:03:38):
to assess the club prior to Levi's exit. Since just
over thirteen percent of Spurs non NIIC shares are publicly traded,
the club is duty bound to disclose expressions of interest,
while potential suitors must also declare their intention regardless of
whether they do intend to bid. Suggestions there is a
Katari better waiting in the wings, followed by the failed

(02:03:58):
attempt by shik Just Seem to buy Manchester United are
denied by sources. Let's see Burnley captain Josh Brown Brownhill
has accepted and completed his move to Al Shabab, signing
a two year deal. Andre Onana has signed his traps
On Sport contract. According to Fabrizio Romano gave his green
light to the move. Formalization from all sides expected within

(02:04:20):
twenty four hours. So Onana will earn more than Manchester
and the Manchester United will earn more than at Manchester
United at traps On Spore due to the sign on
and bonuses offered by the club, and that was probably
the biggest news of those two.

Speaker 4 (02:04:38):
On the day.

Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
So let me see that's done. That's done, Okay. A
couple of other things we mentioned.

Speaker 1 (02:04:45):
We've always talked about Barcelona and how they're trying to
make ends meet and hiring appraisers and be encounters that
will say that yes, money that is in a certain
place counts toward PSR and FFP and have other two

(02:05:08):
sets of being counters come in and go Noah, doesn't.
Then you get the opinion that you want and so
that way you're selling seats to a stadium that doesn't
exist using that revenue, and even the boss said, no,
that's not to how this works. Apparently Barcelona faced stadium
chaos after delays and this is the headline of our
friends at talkSPORT after delays to the billion and a

(02:05:28):
quarter pound project could play their next match with no fans,
so Barcelona stadium chaos threatening to stretch into next year.
Club fearing having the stage games behind closed doors, haven't
featured at the Camp New since twenty three. Play their
first home match of the season against Valencia on Sunday.
Onzie Flick has been eagerly awaiting this first opportunity. Catalans

(02:05:49):
have been desperate trying to redevelop the ground, first built
in nineteen fifty seven to increase capacity to one hundred
and five thousand. Since the start of construction, Barsia had
been playing next door at the Estadi Olympic Luis Companies,
a fifty five thousand capacity stadium on Montjuiq. However, he
said temporary home only meant to be used until twenty
twenty four, before continuing delays. Spaniards at Earmark this Sunday

(02:06:13):
against Valencia as the curtain raiser venue still hasn't been confirmed.
European football expert Andy Brassel told Talk Sport three different
Stadia have been touted as a potential host, saying yeah,
it's a possibility. The plan was always to be back
next weekend September fourteen, though playing the home game against
Valencia in the camp noon. Now it's become clear that

(02:06:35):
that is not yet possible. So they've got to sign
off to play in what was previously known as the
mini Estadi, because that's the Estadi. Johann Kreuf hold six thousand.
Barca B play there, playing there without a crowd. Basically
that's the plan for next weekend. Flick Side switched to
the home of the women's team in Barsab for the

(02:06:56):
Juan Gamper Trophy back in August. LaLiga regulations require a
minimum of eight thousand seats, but even with an exemption,
the champions are struggling to allow any fans in Brassel.
Tellstalk Sport it doesn't look like at the moment because
basically there's too short a run for tickets, too short
a run up to a ticketing and be deciding who

(02:07:16):
can actually come in because clearly there's a load of
season ticket holders who would miss out, even with the
fact that they've been playing in Montjuique for a while
due to host to Taife on Sunday September twenty one
before entertaining Rale Sociodd on the twenty eighth. Should the
Catalonians fall to stage either fixture at the redeveloped ground,
then they run the risk of European implications as well.
YUEFA require clubs to play all of their home knockout

(02:07:39):
matches at the same stadium, which is an issue Barcia
encountered last year. Governing body also want the green light
that Camp New is ready before the Champions League opener
with PSG. Brassel continued, They've been playing all their games
away to get Camp New ready as quickly as possible,
hopefully play all their games there. Ral Sociadad game on
the twenty eighth important because not only their aiming to

(02:08:00):
be back in the Camp New for PSG first home
game of Champions League, which is Wednesday, October first, but
basically UEFA not only want them to play all their
league phase games in the same stadium, So if they're
going to play in the Camp New before February, they
need to be in it for the game against PSG.
But UEFA, it appears miss Is Brassel still would like

(02:08:20):
them to have played the game and it to have
been okay beforehand, so that basically Meansrael Sociate don on
the twenty eighth. Basically that's the one. If they can't
get back there for that, looks like they'll be going
to Monjuik because they can't play in the Ministadi indefinitely.
Of course, they need big crowds in need gate receipts,
all sorts of good stuff, so they've got an agreement
if they needed to go back tom molsju week until
February and that would probably be the timescale. Latest update

(02:08:44):
from Cadana Sayer has claimed that returning to their old
home in September is impossible. Marcus Rashford's loan side havea
until Tuesday to confirm whether a clash against Valencia will
take place. Blow Grana had been playing to move back
to the camp new before it's completely finished and play
in front of a reduced crowd. Brassl admits that despite
his hopes, more than likely Champions League knockouts will be
where it returns. That's the plan. Three stages of redevelopment

(02:09:09):
coming to the end, or they've come to the end,
but they need to sign off safety wise for stage one,
basically they need to be in there with a reduced
crowd YUEFA hoping they can get it up to forty
five thousand. For Champions League that's another thing, without getting
too much into the boring technicalities of it, so many
extra elements for Champions League.

Speaker 2 (02:09:26):
It's a production.

Speaker 1 (02:09:27):
So why you have so many clubs and you've had
clubs across Europe that haven't been able to have Champions
League home matches in recent years At their stadium. Union
Saint Julois can't do it. Unio and Berlin when they
first got in had to play at the Olympus dotty
On which was Herta Stadium. Happens to a number of clubs.
You need TV provisions for TV units, big advertising boards,
all the stuff. So these are the extra things that

(02:09:48):
Barcelona have to think about. So keep an eye on
Barcelona and the shock there. Also Athletic Clube defender Juri
Alvarez set for a ten month stint on the sidelines
failing a doping test after bill Bao outfit three zero
loss to Manchester United in the first leg of the

(02:10:09):
Europa League semi last year. Alvarez cannot play football again
until April twenty six, but can return to training next February.
Yuefa's statement came out and said analysis of the player's
sample by a WATA credited la A lab reeled the
presidence of Canra know on substance prohibited in and out
of competition under category as five diuretics and masking agents

(02:10:31):
of the twenty twenty five wat A prohibited List. Player
accepted a voluntary provisional suspension having effective of that date.
Opening of disciplinary proceedings June ten to UEFA Ethics and
Disciplinary Inspector's conducted investigation case was submitted to disciplinary bodies
for decision at their meeting on the nineteenth of August,

(02:10:51):
suspended ten months from the date of the provisional suspension
June the second, ending on to April twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
So there's that.

Speaker 1 (02:11:04):
So you have all of those things that are lined up.
Busy day and the week's just getting started. Weeks just
getting started, folks. Let's see, let me say hi to
everybody before we let you know what's on everything, what
to watch, where to watch it, how to watch it.
Socker Satan, like I said, Soccer Satan came on twenty

(02:11:25):
minutes into the Twitch pitch before the show started. Morning
Soccer Satan, Morning David, Morning Abby, Morning Alex Morning Dell
Battery one to one over Indy eleven. Rhode Island loses
to loose city. Everybody loses to lose city.

Speaker 2 (02:11:40):
Almost Morning four card.

Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
Wiley has given up on making it out of group
Morning Local, Morning Abby, and then four card Turner. Kirby
was the one who who was in the discord and
wanted me to ask the question about qualifying Turner says,
Falcons coach is also scared to play his best eleven
in the preseason as well. And Harry Geo's not the

(02:12:07):
guy at the ten doesn't think he's good enough.

Speaker 2 (02:12:11):
Let's see.

Speaker 1 (02:12:11):
Then there's Abbey and Dell yep. I think Poachatino is
a good club coach, maybe not a good national team coach.
We'll obviously find that out as we go. So once
again tomorrow, Casey White joining US nine point fifteen, Scott
Wells a head coach at Gardner Web around ten, and
then our tape conversation with Jason Stevens about hol Coast
Blue Cos all the cos and then the decision with

(02:12:33):
Manchester City and and the APT violations and the APT
case that came out that they basically just kind of
ripped it up and they just kind of said, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:12:43):
Okay, we're done.

Speaker 1 (02:12:45):
Now what to watch, where to watch it, how to
watch it, Let's see if there is actually anything on
today that we can watch or we just kind of
locked in on ourselves. So Sunday you had all the
World Cup qualifying, all the big games in Major League
in the NWSL World Cup qualifying still in concor calf

(02:13:06):
and in Europe, Israel, Italy at two forty five on
FS two, Telemundo has El Salvador and Surinam at eight
thirty out of concor Calf, Apple TV and MLS Season Pass,
New England Revolution, Huntsville City Football Club. You're obviously looking
at Huntsville City to continue their winning ways. If you're
a fan of Atlanta United too. A lot of World

(02:13:27):
Cup qualifying three matches started already in Afcon. You have
five more in af Con going at noon on the
Plus two at three o'clock. International Friendly is Anzas, Australia,
New Zealand. And that was at three o'clock this morning.
Fox Soccer Plus at two forty five, Switzerland Savinia, Galazzo
Network simulcasting El Salvador and Surnam.

Speaker 2 (02:13:46):
At eight thirty.

Speaker 1 (02:13:47):
Paramount Plus has L Salvador, Surnam and eight thirty Panama, Guatemala,
nine thirty Peacock simulcasting that and that.

Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Is your day.

Speaker 1 (02:13:57):
Yeah, well, there weren't, David, It weren't any var reviews.
It was just folks that were yelling about the us
M and T Barton Jarrett went after it. They certainly
did so once again, back at it tomorrow and we
will continue rolling through everything. Remember Jason and his ongoing

(02:14:18):
electure series at Emery tomorrow night at seven in the
Woodrift Library, and it'll be a look at Emery's place in.

Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
The soccer.

Speaker 1 (02:14:31):
Pantheon here in the US, in the US and in
Atlanta specifically. And he's joined by both head coaches of
the men's and women's teams at Emory to discuss their
seasons and their place as well. So once again Woodroft
Library tomorrow, Emory Jason's Atlanta Soccer City USA series continues
with Emory University being the focus for this go around,

(02:14:53):
and we would love to see all of you there.
That's another go around of SDHAM and for everybody here,
for Bart and Jarrett, whose language was colored this morning,
so when you see the show pop up in various
and sundry parts, you will see the E rating this morning.
Great to have all of you here with us as
you always are. Back at it again tomorrow nine oh

(02:15:15):
five Eastern time, and since it is once again quick,
thanks to Dan Orlowitz for spending time, Thanks to Jared
and Bart for spending time, Thanks Dave Gordon for spending time,
and thanks to you for spending time. That's it for
another go round of SDHAM be back in a little
less than twenty two and since it's the end of
the show, that means I get to do this Late'safe.
Everybody see Tomore
